.. to be so honest.. i think of a scenario and tell myself,, “how fucked up would it be if _____” and things start spiraling from there;;.. laik how can this perfectly normal and sane scenario become something morbid and downright fucking twisted?? how can this trait be weaponized against this character(s)? how gross can i make this character by using their backstory or personality, what traumatic thing can i see them doing and inflicting on others?

if i’m running low on ideas, i’ll mainly watch films that center around psychological horror or thriller since some movies tend to brush up (if not focus on) on topics such as obsession, betrayal, corruption, rape, kidnapping, murder, and general mental harrowing. analyzing the antagonists’ motives and behaviors in these films helps provide a large set of misdeeds i can cherrypick and reflect onto other characters of my desire, including analyzing how other characters react to these actions. think: how, when, and why?

reading the works of other authors also helps the brain juice run A TON! even if their stories have certain endings or turns, you always have the liberty of being inspired and coming up with ones of your own! simply seeing how these writers turn their thoughts into words will surely fuel ideas of your own.

turning things that bring comfort, such as familial bonds, and transforming it into a revolting yet appealing version of itself is really a key factor i think. and NEVER limit yourself out of fear of what others may think! that creativity needs to FLOWWW if you really wanna make things dark!!

tldr; i suggest watching and analyzing horror films, reading other dead dove stories for inspo, and applying unsettling topics into friendly things!! :3
