New Flowhood

any recommendations for an “affordable” flow hood, all the ones I see that are in my price range look too small to be practically useful? or should i just keep saving lol

Hey there! I typed up my thoughts and fell asleep before hitting post ….. now they’re gone lol!

I am in the camp of save up to either build one or buy one thats well made. Use a SAB until then imo :) i use a SAB for almost 1.5 years before getting my flow hood! And had acceptable success levels (youre gonna get the most contam with no sab and no flowhood, less contam with a sab and even less with a flowhood… but your personal hygiene, aseptic skills, grain/sub/agar prep, and lab techniques are the REAL key imo! Get your contam down without antibiotics and in a SAB by improving these things THEN move to a flowhood to kinda cap it off and make great strides🍄

My flowhood is from Bonsai Filtration. Example of the markup: Probably would cost 800 to make and they sell it for 1100… when I originally was trying to make it on my own I pursued it locally and online (even calling hvac companies to find hepa filters, to no avail); I struggled to find an appropriate HEPA filter and the blower motors, while locatable online, wernt always available and are not cheap. The motors for an 18x24 are in the 500 range and the filters are around 250$ before shipping, so I ultimately saved up enough before finding the parts and renting the tools to construct the boxes lol… easier to just pay the labor and have Bonsai make it :) its been neat because they are very family owned and respond to emails personally and have helped me do the maths for off brand pre filters and such for their unit after the fact :) they also make a 10x12 ish unit thats like 500$ but its more like one jar or bag at a time… one stack of plates, etc. theres a larger mode than mine which is like 18x48 xD but its almost 2k cause it has an even bigger blower motor and double filters xD

INGREDIENTS

Grain: Milo (2.5lb)

Substrate: CVG (2.5lb)

Spores/Culture: **You provide!**

OUR PROCESS

We take no shortcuts. This provides perfect results. We don't accept anything less than perfect.

Here's my process:

[Step 1] - 24 hour soak w/ gypsum.

[Step 2] - 15 minute simmer.

[Step 3] - 60 minute dry off.

Step 4] - Fill .2 micron Unicorn.

[Step 5] - 90 minute PC @ 17psi. [Step 6] - Seal bags w/ flowhood.

Many people take shortcuts to speed up their production. Many use "No Soak" or "No Simmer" Tek. Patience + Care = Phenomenal results.

INSTRUCTIONS

[INNOCULATE]

Use alcohol wipe on port.

Quickly insert syringe.

Inject 2-3cc of spores/lc.

WAIT ~3 WEEKS

[MIX]

Once all the grain is white, break up grain and evenly mix with the substrate.

WAIT ~3 WEEKS

[FRUIT]

When sub is 100% colonized, hang bag and it will slowly inflate with air through filter.

WAIT ~3 WEEKS 

[HARVEST]

Cut the bag open to harvest.

Twist & pull at the base.

Enjoy!

The next flowhood is done! This one is. 16x18x16 99.97. At .3 micron HEPA filter that’s 11x14x2 and a 9x9 HEPA 13 filter for the pre-filter. This also has a UVC light I side to make sure living things die so that your mushrooms thrive! It is listed at $450 message me if you have any questions

^ - I am beginning to prefer one solid print vs many light prints ;) so the fresh caps grt 24-48 hours for one print, then dehydrator they go! Caps are the prettiest once dehydrated imo

V - The prints from those Huautla caps :) drying in front of flowhood. Will make some quality swabs, and considering making a master spore mss with a few… whatever i dont use tonight gets folded and stored in air tight jar or ziplock and saved for trades or microscopy supplies via my Patreon 💯🧬🔬🧫🥳❤️
