Last Christmas | M.Barzal
this is my entry for @antoineroussel christmas fic exchange!
this is for you, @lhugh! happy holidays annie đđ€
this fic does use they/them pronouns as they are annieâs pronouns! đ«¶đŒ
word count: 2,461 words
-
Last Christmas, you walked into December planning every festive activity possible; the Rockefeller Christmas tree, Nutcracker at New York City ballet, Radio City Rockettes even letting Mat show you up at skating.
That was until Mat dropped the break up bomb on you. You couldnât really comprehend it all, too confused and hurt at once.
You were supposed to spend Christmas with Mat and the team at the Martinâs. You never answered Sydneyâs texts after the breakup.
You spent Christmas alone.
You were thankful the islanders tanked their 21/22 season. It meant that they all left to go home as soon as possible.
That meant no islanders, no jerseys, no chants on the train home from work.
No Mat.
He went home to Coquitlam two days after the islanders lost to Tampa.
Mat spent his first summer in seven years bouncing around from place to place. He was out on the lake with Tyson for a few weeks and he visited Anthony and Emma when they bought their new home in Quebec.
He wasnât home long with his family until he got a call, from Brock. His dad had died.
He asked if you and Mat could attend the funeral, his father really adored you both in the time heâd met you and he knew Mat well. Mathew agreed to attend, claiming you were busy but sent your well wishes.
He flew into Minnesota the day prior, dropping off flowers to Brockâs mom and she welcomed him into her home giving him a drink and thanking him for coming.
âHe always liked watching you play, unless you played against Vancouver of courseâ she laughed, Mat gave her a smile âItâs a shame y/n couldnât comeâ
âYeah, itâs a shameâ he mumbled.
Next he saw her was at the funeral, listening while she stood talking about her husband, the love she had for him, how much she missed him already.
All Mat could think about when he heard her words were you.
You were his best friend.
You were the person who knew him best.
You were supposed to be around forever.
When Mat got home after that trip he didnât do much, he was no longer in the mood to go out partying, celebrating with friends.
Mat returned to Long Island in the end of August.
He frequented the coffee shop you guys often did and he even walked the route in the morning you did. He didnât see you.
It wasnât until week 3 of attending the same coffee shop that the barista, Logan said to him
âMat, they donât come in here anymore Iâm sorry. Said they needed a fresh start after the breakupâ
He silently nodded to the girl, hoping she hadnât caught his face falling. He simply took his flat white from the counter and exited to building.
Contract talks started in mid-september.
The organization called in May to the office to discuss; throwing around money and perks.
He took the time to digest the information. He called him mom and dad to see what their opinions were on the whole thing, called his financial advisor and even called Anders but the number he kept hovering over belonged to you.
Everyoneâs advice was along the lines of âyou need to see yourself settling down in Long Island with a contract term like thatâ and he did, with you.
The deal was signed on October 4th.
@ny_islanders: âI love It hereâ says Mathew Barzal, after signing his 8 year extension to stay here in Long Island đđ€đ§Ą
You read the tweet, saw the posts and the stories from your mutual friends. You wanted to text him â tell him congratulations, but you couldnât bring yourself to do it.
So instead, you simply put an orange heart emoji under the islanders post about his extension and scrolled on.
Mat saw it. His heart soared at the simplicity of it but yet the fact he knew you were still thinking of him, that you in some way still cared.
Late October, the leaves were starting to fall and hockey was beginning again. Mat wasnât playing his best â missing goals, easy passes and a lot of falling over.
People started doubting him; calling him a fake, a money grabber and claiming they wished Lou hadnât even drafted his extension papers.
Mat started to doubt himself too.
was he good enough?
should he have signed the papers?
was he worth the money?
was Long Island better off without him? were you?
There is was! The real problem.
Ever since that last December his mind had been stuck on you and really it shouldnât have because it was his fault, he broke up with you.
If anyone asked Mat why you broke up he would say âWe just wanted different thingsâ
If Mat was honest with himself he would say âI was scared I wasnât enough for themâ
The first few months of hockey came and passed with not a single goal from Mat.
Lambert pulled him aside one morning at practice to tell him âYou better get your head out of your ass son because one more game the way youâve been going and youâll be benched for the rest of this yearâ
The last game in November, against Philadelphia Mat was a healthy scratch.
His punishment was over by the next game but Lane told him in no specific terms he had to step up. Mat just groaned and mumbled a âYeah, Iâm fucking tryingâ before leaving the office.
It was harder now that it was December.
In summer he could just pretend things werenât different.
You werenât at his families house? You had to be with your mom.
He was alone at the casino event? You had work.
But Christmas, that was different. Christmas wasnât something he could sweep under the rug and pretend you were busy.
Youâd spent every Christmas together since Mat was eighteen years old. Your first Christmas in New York was an overwhelming experience and Mat thought it adorable at how excited you were about everything.
He bought you a necklace that year. It had his number on it, the gold chain necklace held the number thirteen on your chest and you never took it off.
It was a staple piece in your collection, whenever someone at one of your fancy work dinners or meetings would ask
âHey why does your necklace have the thirteen on it?â
You would smile so bright, in such adoration and reply âMy boyfriend, mat. He plays hockey for the New York Islanders and heâs number thirteen! but always number one to meâ and everyone would laugh and call you cute.
Youâd left that necklace behind the night youâd packed your stuff up to leave. Mat found it when he returned home from Boston on an away game to find youâd obviously been in and cleared out your belongings too while he was gone.
He took the necklace and posted it to your momâs house, the only address connected to you he knew. He never knew if youâd gotten it back, not that it mattered much anyway because why would you want to wear it after youâd broken up?
Matâs no goal streak continued up to the last game before Christmas, December 23rd and he was goal-less.
He was so frustrated at everything he couldnât think straight about getting this goal. He was spending Christmas alone for the second year in a row â alone, without you.
He couldnât stop thinking about you no matter how hard he tried. How youâd been here tonight wearing a silly Christmas jumper and cheering about the last game before Christmas.
They tanked the first period, Tkachuk got away with the puck leaving them up one by the end of the first. There were so many penalties, stupid penalties. It was a mess.
Second period, they equalised in the first few minutes with a goal from Beau before Brock got them up another which was matched not long after by Florida.
When the third period hit it was like something went off in Mat, that he had a surge of energy.
He got a goal, his first season goal! Then another and another with only a few seconds left on the clock.
Hat-trick. He got a hatty.
Heâd done it. He finally scored a goal this season, they won the game and he got a hat-trick!
So why didnât he feel like it was enough?
When he got back to the locker room, Mat pulled his phone out of his bag and looked at his notifications; texts from friends and family congratulating him on the goals, random emails but it was as though he was searching for something.
He clicked through the phone until he landed on what he wanted and pressed it before holding the phone up to his ear.
It rang twice before it connected
âHello?â
âUm, hey! This is weird and Iâm not sure why Iâm doing this but I felt like I had to because, well because I scored my first goal of the season tonight. I scored my first season goal and I got a hatty too which I mean is a lot but I donât feel like itâs enoughâ
Mat sighed, completely blocking out his team-mates listening to this conversation and looking on with sympathy
âItâs not enough because I know youâre not here-â
â-Mat-â
âNo, please let me finish itâs taken me long enough to get the courage to call you. I was stupid for what I did last Christmas and I will wholeheartedly tell you that this year has been the worst year of my life and maybe you call that karma, I call it a wake up call that you⊠youâre the love of my life and that I want to be with you, I was scared and stupid but Iâm better I will be better for you! Iâm ready to be the man you needâ
After his spiel, Mat took a deep breath awaiting your answer but instead was met with a dead line.
You hung up on him.
Mat looked dejectedly at him phone in hand before he got up to get dressed as he was very spitefully aware of the media and press awaiting him outside the door.
He breezed through media by giving them one word answers and a bored look, they usually let him away early when he did that.
Collecting his bag from the now empty locker room and sulking down the hallway towards the car park.
He wasnât even looking up, instead opted for the wonderful view of his scuffed shoes. Paying so little attention he didnât even see you standing at the end of the hallway.
âNice shot!â His head whipped up, locking eyes with you almost immediately.
You watched his face go through a multitude of emotions before it softened and he muttered âWhat-â
âI was here Matâ is what you said, gesturing to the stairs youâd descended from your seat âI was sat up there and I watched it, I was cheering you onâ
Mat was speechless, fumbling over his words and his eyes flickered across your body, trying to drink you in while you were stood in front of him before his eyes landed on your neck.
Lay on your black shirt was a necklace, the necklace.
The number thirteen lay to elegantly on your chest âYou got itâ
You looked down and smiled âOh yeah, my mom sent it to my apartmentâ playing with it between your thumb and pointer finger.
A soft silence settled between you both, it wasnât weird or awkward â it could never be awkward between you and Mat.
Until Mat broke the silence by asking
âWhy are you here?â
You smiled gently âThe islanders last game before Christmas has always been my tradition since I moved to New York you know that and so I never changed it this year, despite the circumstancesâ the last bit was a little snappy and he knew that.
âI meant what i said on that call by the wayâ you nodded curtly as a reply before holding out your hand for him to take
âHow about you drive us around that neighbourhood with the good Christmas lights and we can talk, in the car eh?â
The Christmas lights, another tradition between you both.
Mat reached out, clasping his hand in yours and nodding âYeah, letâs do thatâ
The lights on peoples homeâs had somehow gotten better this year and you admired them all in a childlike fashion from the passenger seat of Mathewâs Range Rover.
âThis is one of my favourite traditions we startedâ you say, still looking out the window. Your hand rested now on the console in the middle of the car.
Mat slipped his hand into yours, taking a leap of faith which paid off when you clasped it in yours and squeezed it.
âYeah, i love itâ he muttered, pulling the car into the side of the road now youâd reached the end of the street.
You turned to him now, waiting for him to say something.
âListen, this is all really weird and I wish I was better with words because I would like to be able to tell you the million and one ways in which I absolutely adore you and regret what I did last Christmas every single day. However, what I can do is promise you, I promise you that I will work everyday to prove to you how much I love you and how sorry I am â I ruined Christmas and I think thatâs what hurts the most is that I tainted something you love so much-â
You cut him off then, your hands resting on his cheeks; forcing him to look at you and you said âChristmas is not ruined, Christmas has brought me back to the boy I love with my whole heart and being. Donât you ever think that you ruined Christmas because sure it wasnât fun last year but we will have a million more Christmasâ to make up for itâ
He nodded, head moving slightly so he could press a kiss onto your palm âIâll make every Christmas the most special just for youâ
âAs long as Iâve got you, baby any Christmas is specialâ
On Christmas, when Mat arrived late to the Leeâs for Christmas with the team he walked in smiling
âSorry, sorry Iâm late I had to pick something up!â
âDude itâs Christmas Day where could you possibly have gone to pick-â Anthony cut himself off when he saw you enter the house, gifts stacked up in your arms that you placed on the table next to the door before grabbing Matâs outreached hand.
âOh my god, itâs a Christmas miracle!â

Discover the Charm of Wedding Dresses in Florida
Florida, known for its stunning beaches, vibrant cities, and warm climate, is a prime destination for weddings. This beautiful state offers a diverse array of wedding venues, from luxurious resorts to quaint chapels. With such variety, it's no wonder that wedding dresses in Florida not only reflect their personal style but also complement the unique settings of their special day. Whether youâre dreaming of a beachside ceremony or an elegant affair in a grand ballroom, hereâs a guide to finding the perfect wedding dress in the Sunshine State.
Embracing the Beach Vibe
Florida's coastline stretches for miles, making beach weddings incredibly popular. For a beach wedding, brides often opt for light, flowing gowns that are both comfortable and elegant. Fabrics like chiffon, organza, and tulle are ideal for beach weddings as they are lightweight and move beautifully in the ocean breeze. Dresses with simple silhouettes, such as A-line or sheath styles, are also popular as they are easy to move in and wonât drag in the sand.
Glamour in the City
For those planning a city wedding in Miami, Tampa, or Orlando, the options are endless. City brides often lean towards more glamorous, fashion-forward gowns. Think mermaid or trumpet styles that accentuate the figure, or ball gowns with intricate beading and lace details. These dresses are perfect for sophisticated venues and add a touch of high-end glamour to the urban wedding scene.
Rustic Elegance
Florida isnât just beaches and cities; it also boasts charming countryside and rustic venues. For weddings in barns, gardens, or vineyards, brides may choose dresses that blend elegance with a touch of bohemian flair. Lace gowns with vintage-inspired details, flowy skirts, and earthy tones complement the natural surroundings beautifully. Florals, both in the dress design and accessories, can enhance the rustic, romantic vibe.
Garden Party Perfection
Garden weddings in Florida are magical, thanks to the stateâs lush, tropical flora. Dresses for garden weddings often feature floral appliquĂ©s, pastel colors, and delicate fabrics. Tea-length dresses can be a lovely choice, offering a vintage feel and a chance to showcase stunning shoes. Brides might also consider off-the-shoulder or cap-sleeve styles to keep cool while maintaining a romantic look.
Tropical Themes
For a truly Floridian wedding, embracing a tropical theme can be spectacular. Wedding dresses for tropical-themed weddings often feature bold, vibrant colors, or white gowns accessorized with tropical flowers. Lightweight fabrics and shorter hemlines are practical for warmer temperatures. Halter necklines and backless designs can add a touch of modern elegance while keeping the bride comfortable.
Finding the Perfect Dress
When it comes to finding the perfect wedding dress in Florida, there are numerous boutiques and designers to choose from. Major cities like Miami and Orlando offer a wide range of bridal shops, each with its unique selection of gowns. Additionally, Florida is home to several talented local designers who can create custom dresses tailored to a bride's specific vision.

Now Smoking: Mary, Insa Grower's Reserve
Overall, I haven't been super excited by the shopping experience at any of the Florida dispensaries I have been to--they seem, well, medical. But Insa pleasantly surprised me with it's good lighting, smaller square footage but more products (so the store doesn't always look like it's half out of stock), variety of products, and staff knowledge.
Now that I've been enjoying my Friday haul for a few days, I can say the flower quality is impressive, too. Not 710 Labs impressive, but very good. The prices reflect the quality level, too. With a 50% new patient discount I got Mary and Jelly Donutz eighths, a Zkittkez preroll, and a jar of gummies for $73.
This morning, I've been smoking Insa Grower's Reserve Mary, a genetic cross between Wedding Cake and Runtz. This hybrid flower inherited a nice balance of flavors Wedding Cake and Runtz. It's potent (28.19%), but didn't knock me out, and I felt energized enough to get a few things done, but relaxed.
The Insa staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. There were more upselling vibes than I like but I know how to say, no thanks.
The biggest factor preventing me from adding Insa to my regular rotation is the location. It's in Deep South Tampa, like MacDill AFB south. Sunnyside and Cookies are a super short drive for me, and The Flowery delivers from Clearwater.
I'll definitely go back, though. The staff raves about the tinctures, so I'll try one of those soon.
What are you smoking this Monday morning?

Brooksville, Florida
Quick Brooksville, Florida History Brooksville, Florida was originally known as Melendez and then Benton. Incorporated in 1856, it is a wonderful city featuring a hilly terrain that ranges in elevation from 175 to 274 feet. There is a long history of successful planters, growers, and cattlemen in and around Brooksville. Its southern background is reflected in its name, honoring South Carolina Congressman Preston Brooks who is best noted for hitting abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner on the head with his cane. Brooksville's downtown area features the iconic Hernando Courthouse, along with great shopping in unique stores featuring everything from antiques, outfits, high-end resale, stationery, flowers and bric-a-brac to formal gowns â and stationery. Some streets still show the Augusta bricks laid by hand. Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation mural painted by Justin Alsedek is on Brooksville's City Hall building, which houses a free art gallery upstairs. Things to Do in Brooksville, Florida There are several downtown restaurants and coffee shops, along with legal and banking offices, a library, and more than one park. Brooksville has been working hard to revive its downtown to attract more visitors and became a Florida Main Street community in 2016. For those looking for things to do in Brooksville, the Main Street organization holds several events in Brooksville's downtown area as well as farmers and artist markets, and a simply magical holiday celebration of all things Christmas during December with everything from musical trees to performing artists, decorations galore and horse-drawn carriage rides. Local art is displayed in several downtown businesses and buildings, as well as murals painted throughout the downtown area. A walking tour map of the downtown murals may be found here. The Brooksville City Hall building houses a changing art exhibit in Gallery 201, and all are welcome. There is no charge. The architecture is interesting in several buildings and when looking for things to do in Brooksville, Florida, a wonderful historic walking tour can be had for the simple act of following the map here. If you would like more information about each building on the historic tour, download the complete guide here. (Please note that the Hernando Chamber of Commerce has moved to Brooksville's Tampa Bay Regional Airport. The guide is dated, but the history and map are accurate.) Historic homes are throughout the downtown area and a tour has been mapped out. There are two B & Bs, including this one, known as the Mirador. Another popular thing to do in Brooksville, Florida, is to visit the May Stringer Museum, located at 600 West Jefferson. Housed in the 1850 Stringer House, a Queen Anne masterpiece with a four-story tower, this historic building is reputed to be haunted. There are daily tours Tuesday - Saturday led by docents and the price of admission is only $10 for adults, $5 for children, free for those under 6 years of age, but the exhibits seem more adult-friendly. F. L. Stringer was a State Senator and judge. With thousands of historic artifacts and regular tours, it commemorates the Civil War era and provides a glimpse at the lifestyle and relics of a gone but not forgotten segment of American history. Ghost tours are held on Friday and Saturday nights by reservation. The May Stringer House houses a historical museum that is well worth a tour in Brooksville. It is said to be haunted. In addition to the May Stringer house there is a historic train depot to visit. Next to the historic train depot museum is a one-room schoolhouse to visit on Russell Street. Both of these museums are adjacent to Russell Street Park which has the Good Neighbor Trail running through it. The Good Neighbor Trail is a paved, multiuse trail that runs about 10.3 miles to connect with the Withlacoochee State Trail. Continue east to find another wonderful shopping area, featuring the Hawkins House and the Florida Cracker Trading Company and Tap Room. There is even an old-fashioned Coney Island where it is rumored that Elvis Presley may have eaten many years ago with an ice cream shop in front. The Florida Mermaid Trail In 2020, a Mermaid Trail was created in downtown Brooksville, which is part treasure hunt and part walking tour. It is an easy activity for one or more to get out and enjoy the historic brick streets and well-kept homes and businesses. Each February, a Mermaid Festival is held in Hernando Park, where residents and visitors compete for the best-dressed mermaids, with and without their pets, and meet the real mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. The maps for the Mermaid Trail can be found at Florida's Adventure Coast Visitor Center, adjacent to the park. Expanding Beyond Brooksvilleâs City Limits You may want to travel north on US 41 to visit the historic Chinsegut Hill Historic Site and rediscover the magic that caused its last private owners to name it Chinsegut, meaning, âa place where lost things are found.â Learn their story of courage and civil rights for all, as well as a historic timeline of occupation during significant national events. And it's beautiful and somewhat magical. *Please note that Chinsegut Hill Museum is managed by the Tampa Bay History Center and is open on weekends for tours, as well as some outdoor events on select weekdays. An Emancipation Celebration is held in May. Originally constructed in the early 1800s, and then added onto by subsequent owners, the Chinsegut Manor House was renovated in 2013-2014 and has been restored to the splendor of its glory days. Image by Diane Bedard. Don't forget the Ice Cream Head back south on U.S. 41 and then travel east on S.R. 50/U.S. 98. Make a right on Spring Lake Highway (541) and follow it to the top of the hill. On the right is Boyettâs Grove Citrus and Timeless Attraction. Here you will find a wonderful animal park where you can feed the animals, a dinosaur cave, taxidermy museum, birds, snakes, an alligator named, "Elvis", and more. A putt-putt golf course winds through part of this fun-filled tourist trap. Thereâs even a snack bar, ice cream parlor, and an old-fashioned Florida gift shop! Itâs one of my favorite places on the Nature Coast. Read the full article

Isabella âIzzyâ Diaz
Name: Isabella "Izzy" Diaz Gender/Pronouns: Female; She/Her Age: 40 Birthday: February 5th Nationality: American Birthplace: Miami, Florida Current Residence: Tampa, Florida Occupation: Receptionist at Over the Rainbow Air Tours Height: 5 ft. 6 in. Sexuality: Bisexual Fandom: Triple Frontier FC: Cote de Pablo
Brief Background: Izzy was born ten minutes after her twin brother, Mateo. They are the only children of Hector Caesar Lunez Diaz and Caroline "Carol" Diaz; their father was Mexican, and their mother was American.
She grew up in a very close, tightknit family, which had its advantages and disadvantages. Especially with Mateo. The two were joined at the hips when they were children, but starting their sophomore year in high school, the two developed separate friend groups. It momentarily put a strain on their relationship as Izzy wanted to find her own identity and felt almost suffocated by her family.
After graduating, Isabella had some difficulty finding some direction in her life. She did not know what she wanted out of life, what she wanted to do, only what she did not want to do. For awhile, she worked as a go-go dancer for a couple of clubs in downtown Miami.
When she was twenty-five, her grandmother grew sick, so her parents moved from their home in Miami up to Tampa, with Mateo following after finishing his military contract with the Marines. Tired of dealing with drunks, she moved in with her brother and worked as a receptionist at Uncle Luisâ car maintenance shop.
A month after her thirtieth birthday, Izzy was in a terrible car accident when a driver ran a red light; she nearly lost her life in the accident and had a long recovery, but she got through it. One of Mateoâs military buddies visited and stayed with the twins for a couple of weeks, starting up a new business- helicopter tours. She initially was going to work there for a couple of months while they interviewed other candidates for the office receptionist, but they hit it off really well, and she has been working there ever since.
Personality: Very practical, values usefulness and comfort over glamour, blunt and honest but not cruel, not afraid to speak her mind, very involved with her family but independent.
Likes: Dancing, Rock music, Boxing, Caramel, Singing along with the radio, Spending time with her family- having cookouts or watching sports, Honesty, Strawberries.
Dislikes: Snakes, Alligators, Moonshine, Liars, Baseball, Coconut, High heels, Country music, Pumpkin unless itâs her grandmotherâs pumpkin flower soup.
Random Headcanons: - She graduated from high school but never attended college. - Her favorite drink is a tequila sunrise. - She has a fear of snakes and gators. She refuses to visit swamps or wetlands. - Her Uncle Luis taught her how to box. - She is a terrible cook. If it were possible to burn water, she would. - She has a phoenix tattoo on her left hip; she got it after the bad car crash. - She worked as a "go-go" dancer for a bar and at her uncle's mechanic shop before getting her current job. - She is very competitive against her twin; Mateo loves to bring up every time the two argue or are competing against each other. - She prefers being called âIzzyâ but never âBellaâ. That is a good way to piss her off.
[Other established verses below cut]
PACIFIC RIM VERSE
Izzy is a technician working at the Shatterdome, makes sure the jaegers are in perfect working order. She is a bit protective over the jaegers, feeling it is her craft and does not take kindly when pilots get them damaged. Her twin Mateo works security at the K-Science Lab.

Prompts: 88. âI never meant to fall in love with you, I just didâ from this prompt list! Pairing: Jemily, technically Word Count: 2,456 Warnings: Mentions of death. A/n: Red (@hurricanejjareau) picked this prompt. thank you, ily. that is all.
        April 29, 2011 Emily,
Hey. Itâs me. Iâm sure you can tell by my handwriting. Iâve had you look over enough of my reports that Iâd honestly be kind of disappointed if you didnât. And before you say anything, yes, I know we play Scrabble, but that doesnât count. I need to talk to you. God, Emily, I just need to talk to you. To see that you are alive, that you are well, and, honestly, to see that you are real.Â
These past few weeks without you have been awful. Everything is different. Iâm spending more and more time around the office. The way we all skirt around your name like you never even existed is just painful. For a while there, I almost started to believe you werenât real. And thatâs a big fear of mine- to wake up one morning not worrying about you, because I know thatâs all you have right now. You have Hotch and I thinking about you, and thatâs it.
Depressing. And nothing I need to tell you, but itâs not like youâll read these anyways. Itâs nearing two months since you âdied.â I donât think Rossi has processed it yet. Penelope is a shell of her former self coping. Even Ashley seems distraught. Spence has dealt with far too much trauma, and yet, Iâve never seen him like this. Heâs been at my house everyday this week, crying and then sleeping on the couch. Itâs heart wrenching, and it takes everything in me to not tell him youâre okay. That youâre alive. But I canât, not with Doyle still out there, always being a danger to you.
But, my God, is Morgan the worst to be around right now. Second to only Penelope Garcia, you were Derekâs favorite person in the team. No point hiding it, youâre all profilers and I spend way too much time around you guys.. Heâs gutted. Honestly, I think heâs the one person here who has really âacceptedâ that youâre gone. Even Hotch is off. But not Morgan. And thatâs the horrifying part. Heâs the exact same person that he was before you left, but now his smiles are a little too wide and his gestures are a little too exaggerated. Itâs terrifying to be around.Â
I guess that leaves me. Iâm doing okay. Miss you everyday, but I feel bad every time I do because I know the truth. I know where you are (kind of) and I know that you are alive. They buried you. They know where you are, too, but for them, thatâs six feet under.
    Love, JJ
    March 1st, 2011 Emily,Â
Me again. Today was better, I think. I know we like to say that the serial killers never take a vacation, but they seem to be on one right now. Itâs just a bunch of consulting on relatively low level cases. Thank God, because I donât think any of them could handle a case right now. Reid didnât sleep at my house last night, which is improvement, I think. He definitely didnât sleep, but Iâll take what I can get. Derek is almost worse.
Itâs lonely here without you. Penelope isnât herself, and I find her sitting at your desk all the time. Sheâs stopped staring at your photo constantly and now avoids the hallway with all the memorials so she doesnât have to walk by you. Sheâs in her office even more than she normally would be. Thereâs boxes of cupcakes being brought in all the time. Sheâs an absolute and utter wreck.Â
You remember that feeling we all felt when Haley was killed? When we all stood around her casket and watched with teary eyes as Hotch and Jack said their final goodbyes? The feeling that nothing would be okay again? Yeah. Thatâs about whatâs happening now, but now itâs not just Hotch feeling like his life is over. Itâs all of us.
And God, you must be so lonely.Â
    Love, JJ
    April 10th, 2011 Emily,
Today was an all-time low. Everywhere I looked, there you were. Oh, there you were grabbing coffee after an all-nighter spent at my house. Oh, there you are, legs dangling over the side of the chair youâre lounging in because you donât know how to sit properly. Oh, there you are, smiling at Hotch as you talk animatedly in his office about God knows what. Oh, there you are, downing shots with Rossi.
Your ghost was everywhere over this office, over my life. You were this office, you were everything. I canât go anywhere to escape you. How can you have a ghost when you arenât even dead?
    April 11th, 2011 Emily,Â
Another crying Spencer night. Theyâre off on their second case, a spree killing in Tampa. I donât know. At this point, Iâm kind of lost. Iâm spending far too much time at that office even though I donât work there because itâs one of my last connections to you. I just⊠miss you, I guess. No, I know I miss you.Â
I just canât stop feeling guilty. Iâm causing all this pain in the team and in all your loved ones. I was the one who told Hotch you survived, I was the one who suggested you âdie.â This is all my fault.Â
Hotch told me he was doing assessments of the team. That shouldnât be happening. You should be there. Iâm not going to ask for the results, and I donât think I would be allowed to if I asked. I just donât want to face the reality of what Iâve done.
    Love, JJ
    May 15th, 2011 Emily,Â
Hey, itâs been a while. Not much has changed. I havenât been to the BAU since my last letter. I canât face them anymore. I canât sit within those walls that seep of you. I canât face you.
God damnit, Prentiss! Why did you go after Doyle? You knew we could have helped! This could have all been avoided if you would have trusted us!
    May 15th, 2011 Emily,Â
Iâm sorry. Itâs not your fault. I just miss you. A lot.
    May 22nd, 2011 Emily,Â
With you being gone, Iâm starting to realize how much I depended on you. You were my person. If I had a problem, I came to you. If I wanted to get drunk, I came to you. If I wanted to get a break from the overwhelmingness of the testerone of our workplaces, I came to you. If I just wanted to escape, I came to you.Â
Iâm still avoiding the BAU as best as I can. Even Hotch and I havenât been talking. Spence is still coming to my house, though. Still crying. He misses you so much, Prentiss. We all do.Â
When Elle left, I didnât think any of us would recover. She hadnât been there for the longest time, but she was an integral part of the team. But we recovered. Then, when Gideon left, some of us were fine, but Reid? I genuinely thought he would never be the same. And I guess he isnât, but he still recovered. And now you left. So if the pattern continues, weâll recover.
But I donât think I will. Because every waking minute of every day (and even some of the sleeping ones), the thought that we will never catch Doyle haunts me. The thought that I will never see your beautiful face again. The thought that I will never actually get to talk to you again.Â
They donât have those thoughts. To them, you are dead, under the ground, declared dead on the table. To them, thereâs no chance theyâll ever see you again. So, for them, if we donât catch Doyle, yes theyâll be irrationally angry because the son of a bitch who killed you is still out there, but catching him never had any more reward than revenge and putting another bad guy in prison where he belongs. They wonât realize that not catching him means theyâll never see you again because they donât even know thatâs an option.Â
    I love you, JJ
    June 1st, 2011 Emily,Â
The worst part of all this is that I know youâre out there, lonely. I would say afraid, but I know you. Emily Prentiss doesnât get scared, I know. But youâre alone, in a place that isnât here. All I want to do is help you. And I canât because if I do, thereâs the possibility that Iâll make everything worse.
So, Iâm trying to focus on positives: happy memories and good things to happen. Like, the other day, I walked through a market and, when I passed a flower stall, all I smelled was that expensive perfume you used to wear. The stuff you stopped using because it made Reid sneeze? The stuff you still use when we would go out on the town? Smelling it made me want to go out and buy a drink and dance the night away.Â
And when I was shopping for new shoes for Henry, I saw a pair of boots that I knew you would buy the instant you saw them. They were lace-up, black with a bit of heel (I know your never-ending goal is to get taller), and there was a slight rose decal on the top. I could hear you shouting, âThese are men squashing boots!â because youâre never embarrassed in public. I could see the smile you give me, a flash of blinding white teeth. And I knew the smile I would shoot back because happy Emily is my favorite Emily.
    I love you, JJ
    June 18th, 2011 Emily,Â
You missed Morganâs birthday. 38! It was a pretty somber occasion because we all knew that something was missing. And it was the day before your 3 month anniversary of being dead. Garcia tried as best as she could to fill the gap, decorating the bar that Rossi rented out very extravagantly. Material items could never make up the lack of you. We all just ended up getting drunk.
I think itâs really starting to hit Hotch. When I take Henry to hang out with Jack, Aaronâs quiet. Granted, heâs always quiet. (Not around you, though. You always bring out the best in people) This is a different quiet, though. Heâs almost silent. I think heâs beating himself up. You know Hotch, anniversaries hit him hard. I think he hoped you would be home now, Doyle staying in the maximum security he belongs in.Â
But the rest of them are moving on. Spencer isnât having the breakdowns he used to have. Penelope and I can go out for coffee without there being this heavy weight sitting on us. Ashley even joined us once, and it didnât feel like she was replacing anyone. Rossi is smiling much more. Morgan is still acting a little fake, and he pulls sleepless nights every now and then, obsessing over the case. But heâs better. He can focus on cases, and Penelope tells me that they can go hang out without him being too absent-minded.Â
Hotch is the one Iâm really worried about. We both remember the aftermath of Haleyâs death. The grieving, the silence, the sleepless nights, the constant fidgeting so he could keep his mind of it. Thatâs whatâs happening now. Heâs just as worried about you as I am. We both know the possibility of never seeing you again.
That leaves me. Three months later and I wouldnât say Iâm much better than I used to be. I still have trouble hanging around them. I still find myself grabbing my phone to text you something before remembering that I would never get an answer. I still find myself longing for you, for your smile, for your touch.
    I love you, JJ
    July 17th, 2011 Emily,
I think this will be my last letter. Iâve come to a few realizations, and, even though I still desperately need to talk to you, writing these are one of them.Â
One: This isnât healthy for me- nothing about this is. 5 stages of grief. We both know them, they have to do with the unsubs all the time. These letters are classified as denial. And I need to get through all five. Yes, you arenât dead, but you may as well be. I canât see you, I canât talk to you, I canât know where you are. Thereâs a death certificate. You were âburied.â And I need to get to acceptance. I need to accept that I may never see you again. I canât just exist in this state of limbo forever.Â
Two: You are okay, and you can care for yourself. I guess this goes under the first one, but I donât really care. You donât get as close as we did are and not have an ever present worry of âwhat if sheâs not okay? What if Iâm not there to protect her? What if she needs my help?â But thatâs where the denial thing comes in. I think that Iâve been doing that to myself because it keeps you near to me. It keeps you alive. Because if I can worry about you, there is still a you to worry about. Therein lies the issue. There is no you to worry over. To the world, you are dead. And I need to accept that. Because the you that does exist is perfectly capable and doesnât need my help.Â
Three: Not having you here is the worst part of this all. Technically, you were gone before you left because I left, but we still talked and hung out. We still went to bars on alternating Saturdays. But we canât have any of that anymore. And I think thatâs what made me realize the last thing.Â
I am completely, utterly in love with you. And thatâs terrifying. Unrequited love stories are the worst to read, but here I am, writing one. I loved how hot you looked when you tied your hair up. I love the way you carried yourself. I love the way you smiled at me when Reid went on one of his tangents. I love the way you looked at me when I delivered the profile. I love our hushed talks on the plane when everyone else is asleep, talking about everything and nothing.
The worst part? You are the missing piece in this puzzle. You, Emily, were the one thing I never took into account when planning my life out. I didnât mean to fall in love with you, I just did. Yet, here we are- me, writing crappy letters admitting my feelings, and you, halfway across the world, completely unaware of the havoc youâve wreaked on me.
    I love you, JJ

Liz Gets a Boyfriend (March 2010 - October 2010)
So itâs clear something was happening with TayLiz before this point due to all the cuddling and movie theater dates and sleeping in the same room and all that. However, as the Valentineâs Day shenanigans so clearly demonstrated for us, Taylor clearly didnât see whatever was happening as a âreal relationship.â Likely because of this lack of committment, and (according to L Chat rumors) Lizâs very conservative homophobic family, Liz starts pursuing a guy she likes.
Meet Jason. Currently heâs a photographer for touring acts in Nashville, but at one point, he, like Liz, was a struggling musician in Nashville, and Liz was INTO HIM. So letâs get into that:
4 March 2010 - Fearless in Tampa. Back on tour.
23 March 2010 - Liz starts flirting with Jason on Twitter:
1 April 2010 - Liz tweets about Taylor (note the TAY again):
3 April 2010 - Liz tweets at Taylor with an inside joke about a quick change room. Itâs possible that theyâre still hooking up/whatever while Liz is pursuing Jason, but clearly neither of them see it as a real relationship.
7 April 2010 - Taylor makes a joke about Liz on Twitter:
15 April 2010 - TayLiz and Caitlin are papped shopping together
16 April 2010 - TayLiz are papped shopping together in Beverley Hills
26 April 2010 -Â Taylor posts the âDemonstrating my fine athletic skills and moreâ vlog. She dedicates a portion of the vlog to Liz and the background music of that part is a song called She by the band Parachute (Liz loves the band and is close friends with one of the members). Taylor wears her IKYWT shirt again.
youtube
30 April 2010 - Jasonâs birthday. Liz tweets at him about it.
In the Journey to Fearless documentary for the Hub, Taylor and Liz bake a cake for a guy she likes and wants to be her boyfriend. Taylor seems generally supportive of it. I think itâs reasonable to assume this is referring to Jason:
youtube
4 May 2010 -Â Â Liz tweets a link to Poison and Wine by the Civil Wars.Â
The chorus of Poison and Wine goes âI donât love you, but I always will.â Years and years after this, Liz will release a song called âI Donât LV U Anymoreâ where the chorus goes âI donât love you anymore, but I donât love you any less.â This may be a reach, but to me this signals that Liz is moving on from Taylor.
Liz and Caitlin attend the Time 100 most influential people gala with Taylor.
17 May 2010 - Liz and Jason attend a show together -- they seem to be officially dating at this point.
27 May 2010 - Lizâs birthday. Taylor attends her party. We know this because a BUNCH of Lizâs friends tweet about it:
In a funny coincidence, Bryan ends up dating (and eventually engaged to) Liz WAY down the line from now.
Sometime in June 2010 - Taylor, her family, and her band all go to the Bahamas together on vacation:
16 June 2010 -Â Taylor diaries about writing an up-tempo song that sounds like itâs Story of Us
To me, this reads as Taylor writing about all the mess TayLiz has turned into in the wake of JH and Jason. There are lines in Story of Us that are really similar to those in the unreleased song Battle/Letâs Go and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together where Taylor talks about a very messy very public fight and breakup that all of their friends were around for, as well as the person sheâs singing about having another person theyâre dating. This fits for this moment in time. Theyâve just been on tour, and then together in the Bahamas, surrounded by coworkers, friends, and family, and Liz has started seeing someone else.
21 June 2010 - Liz tweets from the Bahamas.
4 July 2010 - TayLiz decorate each other with stars for the 4th.
Liz gets flowers from Jason.
6 July 2010 - Liz and Jason get teased by a friend for making out in public:
10 July 2010 -Â Â Fearless in Cavendish, Canada. Last stop on the Fearless tour. Taylor writes a letter to her band calling the Fearless tour a âgolden age.â
State of Grace has the lyric âThis is the golden age of something good and right and real.â And Cardigan has the original lyric âLiving in a gold age, sneak into my bird cage.â
July 2010 - Taylor moves into her Nashville apartment (based on Never Grow Up secret message being âI moved out in Julyâ). Apparently her two guest bedrooms were initially decorated for Liz and Caitlin. Keep in mind, this apartment reportedly has a life-sized bird cage in it.
1 September 2010 - Taylor makes a MySpace post from Nashville
18 September 2010 - TayLiz and Andrea go to a wedding and take photos in the photobooth:
29 September 2010 - Jason gives Liz a Pez machine and she tweets about how great he is:
October 2010 - US Weekly releases a special on Taylor that contains this interesting possible reference to the lyric âSo you were never a saint, and I loved in shades of wrongâ from Treacherous:
Taylor is also quoted saying her and Liz like to have romcom movie nights together:
5 October 2010 - Speak Now is released as a single. Liz tweets about it and calls Taylor âTayâ again:
That same day, Glamour releases an interview with Taylor where she says Liz and Caitlin have their own rooms in her Nashville apartment:
14 October 2010 - Jason sends Liz flowers while sheâs at Speak Now rehearsals:
21 October 2010 - Mean is released as a single. Liz tweets about it, calls Taylor âTayâ yet again:
CONCLUSION:Â Liz is moving on. Taylor may or may not be happy about it. Speak Now is coming. So it makes sense that, whether for PR reasons, romantic reasons, or both, Taylor steps out with Jake Gyllenhaal in late October. And oh boy, is Liz about to be jealous:
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jealous Liz (October 2010 - January 2011)

A Complete Guide on Delta-8 THC
Delta 8 THC is also known as Î8-tetrahydrocannabinol that occurs in cannabis plants. Think of it as the younger brother of the more famous THC, the major psychoactive component of cannabis. Delta-8 THC is formed in the cannabis plant when delta-9 THC becomes oxidized. Some of it will convert into an isomer with an extremely similar molecular structure, referred to as delta-8-THC, or Î8THC for short. Î8 v/s Î9 Because the two molecules are similar in structure, they share some similar effects. Delta 8 THC is generally regarded as â
to Âœ as potent as its bigger and much more common brother Delta 9 THC. Most users report that consuming Delta 8 THC results in a mild cerebral experience, characterized as clear, calm, focused, and lacking in paranoia and anxiety, with the majority of noticeable effects being total body relaxation and release of stress. Benefits of Î8THC Delta 8 THC has the potential to be used in place of Delta 9 THC for people prone to anxiety or discomfort associated with the state of intoxication Delta 8 THCâs bigger brother can induce. Antitumor According to a study conducted in 2013 cited by the National Cancer Institute, delta-8-THC is considered to be one of the cannabinoids that have been shown to inhibit tumor growth, ââŠDelta-9-THC, delta-8-THC, and cannabinol (CBN) were found to inhibit the growth of Lewis lung adenocarcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo. Besides, other tumors are sensitive to cannabinoid-induced growth inhibition.â Antiemetic A study from 1995 published in Life Sciences indicates delta-8-THCâs ability to reduce symptoms of nausea with minimal side effects in children, âDelta-8-tetrahydrocannabinolâŠwas administered to eight children, aged 3-13 years with various hematologic cancers, treated with different antineoplastic drugs for up to 8 monthsâŠVomiting was completely prevented. The side effects observed were negligible.â
Appetite-stimulant A 2004 study published in Pharmacol Biochem showed that delta-8-THC, even in extremely low doses, increased appetite and cognitive function in mice. âDelta(8)-THC (0.001 mg/kg) caused increased food consumption and tendency to improve cognitive function, without cannabimimetic side effects. Hence, a low dose of THC might be a potential therapeutic agent in the treatment of weight disorders with minimal side effects associated with cannabis use.â Analgesic A 2018 study from the Cannabinoid and Cannabis Research journal has shown potential for treating pain and inflammation with topical delta-8 THC (and CBD), âOur results provide novel evidence that the phytocannabinoids Î8THC and CBDâŠare antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory in an experimental model of corneal hyperalgesia.â Neuroprotective properties A study from a 1987 Alcohol and Drug Research journal conducted on mice, shows that delta-8-THC may also possess some neuroprotective properties based on brain activity that was monitored in the study. The point of the study was to test various cannabinoids, but delta-8 THC was one of the components of the cannabis plant that stood out to the researchers of this study for its significant effect from such a minute dosage. So how do I use Î8THC? Delta 8 THC can be vaped, mixed with hemp flower or other smoking blends, dabbed like other CBD concentrates, added to edibles, or used sublingually when mixed as a tincture. Inhaling vapor from a cartridge, taking a hit off of a dab rig, or smoking a joint of some hemp flower with some Delta 8 THC oil added to it will result in the most immediate effects, within minutes of inhalation. Edible and sublingual routes of administration will depend on the individual, but can range anywhere from 20 minutes to 180 minutes, and will frequently last longer than vaping, smoking, or dabbing. The best practice is to always start small, wait a little bit, and then see how you feel. With a Delta 8 Carts, that might be one puff until you know how it affects you. With an edible, you may consider trying half a dose and waiting an hour to see how you feel. Remember, it is possible to redose to achieve your desired results. While Delta 8 THC is generally considered to be less likely to cause anxiety and paranoia, some users have reported anxiety and paranoia in high doses. As with any substance, moderation is always advised. Is Î8THC useful for me? Thatâs a decision only you can make for yourself, you should always consult your doctor for medical advice and opinions prior to using any drug or supplement. The nature of any hemp-extracted product means that there may be a trace amount of Delta 9 THC in the product which, if consumed may cause a drug test to show a positive result for THC metabolites. Because of Delta 8 THCâs similar chemical structure to its illicit bigger brother, the metabolites produced by the body may be similar enough to yield a positive drug test result for THC metabolites. Do You Wanna Build A Snowman - Boston Bruins
An: Day Six of the blurbs, to the anon that requested this I hope you enjoy!
Melissa had lived in Florida her entire life, the beach was a part of her soul and she adamantly refused to move away from the coast. Â Sheâd completed an internship with her college and the Tampa Bay Lightning and they unfortunately had no opening within their trainers this year, but everyone knows each other once youâve been involved in the league long enough. Tampa knew Boston was losing a trainer over the summer, Â a phone call and letter of recommendation to Don later she was on a flight to Boston for an interview. Two weeks later Don had moved her into his in-law apartment and began going over the medical history of the entire team.
It was one of the most intimidating moments of her life beginning to work with another team. I mean Zdeno Chara, are you kidding me, manâs a legend. She felt a little awkward until a third of the way through the day when the flowers arrived for her, lightning blue, to wish her good luck. Like a dog with a bone the Bruins honed in on the delivery, chirping her for clearly being a spy made it feel more like home. Upon arrival the next day another bouquet of flowers awaited her, this one filled with individual welcoming messages. Both bouquets clashed in the color scheme of her apartment but she couldnât make herself care. Â
By December, four months into the season, Melissa felt like sheâd been in Boston for years. There was a little bit more of a spring to her step today at practice however and her eyes were light up in wonder. She seemed to get distracted and stare off into space occasionally, something entirely unlike her and every time it happened the players nudged each other. Bruce questioned Don and he just shrugged, stating sheâd been like that since this morning on the ride in.
After their work out finished she seemed to return to herself, focusing in on the boys, harping on some of them to rest up more. Chris Wagner even got the infamous âI may be small but Iâll whoop your ass boyâ glare they all feared before she switched him out for David Backes. A which point the boys tried to escape the room, Don included without attracting attention. Which obviously means they were about as unnoticeable as a bull in a china shop. Backes placed is head into his hand and sighed deeply, while Melissa laughed. âSomething you need to talk to me about Backie, you arenât still feeling pain in practice are you.â
Immediately jumping to reassure her that he was fine, fear of sitting out of games lighting a mini panic and causing him to speak without thinking, âNo we need to talk about you.â Â Â Â
Melissaâs eyes widened, âDid I do something?â
âNo, no honey thatâs not it.â He paused, âI feel like this is practice for my daughters.â
âWhat are you on?â Melissa questioned.
Backes groaned into his hands again, âI told them to send Bergy.â Another pause, âYou know you can talk to any of us right? Like if someone or something is bothering you weâll all help out.â
âI mean yeah, but where is this coming from all of a sudden.â She asked with a smile.
âAlright so all day you got distracted and we noticed. Sean, Monte, and JD all toe picked and face planted and you didnât make fun of them. Itâs concerning okay.â
Melissa burst into laughter, shaking slightly. âBackie itâs snowing. The first snow of the seasonâŠâ Â
âYeahâŠâ
âIâm from Tampa.â She replied.
âYeanâŠâ
âFlorida is the only place in the continental US where it doesnât snow.â Melissa deadpanned.
Backes immediately started laughing, âAs my daughters would say. Do you wanna build a snowman?â
âYES!â
A snowman ultimately turned into a mini fort crouching behind cars waiting for the others to exit the building with a pile of prepared snowballs. As Bergeron stepped outside talking to Marchy Melissa let a snowball fly, landing directly on his chest and exploding upon impact. Patrice blinked surprised, raising his glare to see her duck back behind Coyleâs truck as Backes crackled somewhere in the distance.
âThis is war!â Brad screamed as the team quickly divided themselves.
Cam Neely and Bruce Cassidy continued their card game for the next hour as the room filled in around them. The shouts and laughter continuing from outside telling them this was safer for their health. Â Â

Walls - Bechloe
Summary: Three times Chloe caught Beca from falling and one time where the brunette got up herself.
Word Count: 3.1k
And dw, Iâm getting to those prompt suggestions in my inbox:)
-
Beca wasnât one for crying.
Or showing sentimental feelings in general.
She built walls around her heart, the foundation composed of the countless years of being made fun of because she didnât have two parents like the other kids. Thereâs also the lack of trust within her relationship with her parents and the dozens of arguments sheâs been through. The walls would continue to rise with every harmful incident - when her female friends left when the brunette came out as bisexual, how her mother and father always argued when they spoke, or when Beca realized that the people you love leave you.
All the walls built around her heart would cause the brunette to fall at times.
And every time she would stumble and fall, a kind-hearted redhead would be there to catch her.
-
2013
The sky turned dark when Chloe noticed the reverberating noise of sobs when she walked upstairs - she had just completed hanging their ICCA Championship Banners. Like a bloodhound, the redhead poked her head around the seemingly empty house - most of the Bellas were in their college lectures - and attempted to locate the noise. She passed by all the bedroom doors and came to a stop in front of a room she became familiar with, Fat Amy and Becaâs room.
She pressed her ear against the white wooden door and heard faint sniffling and crying, it seemed to have died down. Chloe froze when she heard what sounded like âShe doesnât feel the same.â The redhead stood in front of the room, hesitant to walk in, not wanting to disturb the sophomore. Chloe knew well that Beca was sobbing, Fat Amy was currently out with Bumper. The redhead took a deep breath, turned the doorknob and peeked in.
Chloeâs eyebrows furrowed, seeing an empty cluttered bed where she assumed Beca would be. The redhead took one step further and found her friend, on the floor, hugging her knees. The redheadâs heart ached when she saw the state Beca was in, the brunette didnât seem to be the one to cry. Chloe approached the crying brunette and kneeled down.
âBecs? You okay?â The brunette seemed to tense up, her once shaking body movement frozen by the sound of Chloeâs soothing voice. With her body still tense, Beca only nodded. âYou donât seem okay⊠do you wanna talk about it?â
The shaking body movement returned as Beca lifted her head, staring at Chloe with strained eyes and a somber expression. Her mouth was wavering as she tried to speak. âI- was I being loud?â
Chloeâs heart pounded when she heard the sad-sounding voice, Becaâs tone lacking her wittiness. âKind of, I heard you crying from down the hall.â The brunette mouthed âsorry.â âDonât apologize for being upset, youâre okay really. Do you wanna tell me whatâs going on?â Chloe wondered what she was crying about, especially after hearing what she heard through the door.
The brunette only averted her eyes away and slowly let go of her knees, straightening out her legs and resting her hands on her lap. âNot reallyâŠâ
âOkay. Do you need anything?â
Beca tugged at her bottom lip, shooting an inconsistent glance at Chloe. âCan you just⊠stay with me please?â
The redhead nodded as she slowly stood up. âOf course⊠do you wanna move to your bed maybe? Itâs much comfier than the floor y'know.â Beca sniffled once more before slowly rising to her feet. She shuffled to her bed and took a seat, pressing her back against the wall. Chloe sat next to her, ignoring the temptation to hold Becaâs hand or to kiss her, she hated seeing her best friend in this solemn state.
To her surprise, Beca lowered her head onto Chloeâs shoulder and curled her body against the redheadâs side. She took that as an invitation to wrap her arms around the upset brunette and Beca eventually was cuddling with Chloe. The redhead remained quiet as Beca slowly fluttered her eyelids closed and took on a steady breathing pattern. She glanced down to examine Becaâs face, noticing how puffy her cheeks are and the multiple tear tracks that ran down her face. Whatever it made Beca upset mustâve been really hurtful.
Especially when the person you love, probably will never love you back.
-
2014
The brunette ignored the feeling of throwing up and the stream of tears wanting to escape. She disregarded how heavy her head became and the feeling of her skull being pressed against from all angles, like the stop in tear flow flooded Becaâs head. She didnât want to break down in front of the girls, especially in public.
Earlier that day, Beca received a message from her father that the brunetteâs grandfather passed away. The two were close, Beca spending the majority of her childhood with her grandpa. He would take the young brunette out for ice cream, he would aid Beca with her science homework, and most importantly, heavily influenced her passion for music. The brunetteâs grandfather played a tremendous role in Becaâs and life and now he was gone. It took every fiber in her body to not break out into a sob, not wanting to awaken Chloe, her roommate while they were in the hotel.
They were out of town, the Bellas were competing in the ICCAâs once again and the venue was located in Tampa, Florida. Tampa is the city where Chloe grew up in, the redhead wanted to bring the Bellas to a mall she would often frequent during her high school years. Beca didnât want to ruin the happy enjoyable moment with the news of her grandfatherâs passing. So, she sucked it up and continued on with the shopping trip.
She was staring blankly at a clothing rack when she heard someone call her name. Beca slowly looks up and finds her friend, Stacie.
âYou good there Beca? Youâve been staring at that ugly polka-dotted romper for the past few minutes. I mean, Chloe would probably think itâll look good on you.â The brunette blinked, trying to process Stacieâs sentences amongst the thoughts of her grandpa. Her brain couldnât even take in the Chloe remark. âEarth to Beca~â
The brunette shook her head. âOh! Yeah, Iâm fine. Just wondering if I should buy anythingâŠâ Stacie narrowed her eyes before she shrugged her shoulders. âAlright, come on letâs go, weâve been waitinâ for you by the entrance.â
Stacie grips Becaâs wrist, leading her to the entrance of the clothing store. Once sheâs settled with the group, Chloe leads them to the next store, Beca trailing far behind. The brunetteâs arms were crossed against her chest as she kept her gaze on the brick floor, distracting herself by examining the pattern. A sudden change from the bright sunlight to the dark and loud environment became enough for Beca to pay attention to where she was again. She perks her head up and laid her eyes on bright blue ones.
âCome on! Letâs find like a matching jacket or something.â Chloe grabbed Becaâs wrist and pulled her farther into the store as the other Bellas waggled their eyebrows at one another. Before the brunette knew what was happening, she found herself holding a denim jacket. âWhatâd you think about that?â
Becaâs hands began to tremble as she looked at the jacket, remembering how her grandpa would always wear one. She recalled the rough feeling of denim whenever he would hug the young brunette and the way it sounded. The brunetteâs pounding headache came back.
âHey, you okay?â Chloe asked. When Beca gave no response except for the trembling body movement, similar to the one from sophomore year, she dragged her into a secluded corner of the store. âStacie told me thereâs something up with you. What is it Becs?â Beca only pressed her lips together. âCome on⊠youâve been a little checked out lately whatâs wrong?â
Chloe took the denim jacket out of Becaâs hands and placed it on a nearby rack. âMy, grandpa he⊠he passed away this morning.â The redheadâs mouth gaped open, immediately taking Beca in for a hug. For the first time, Beca relaxed into her arms and started sobbing lightly.
âIâm so sorry Beca. But donât worry, itâs okay, itâs okay. Youâll be fine.â Chloe was reminded of where they were when an employee passed by the two. The redhead didnât let go. âWeâll talk about this in the hotel okay? I know how you like your privacy.â
Beca nodded as she pulled away, wiping her face with the neckline of her shirt. For the rest of the shopping trip, Chloe held her hand.
Later that night, Chloe settled into her side of the bed, unsurprised to see Beca already curled up in a ball. The redhead inched closer to the brunette as rested a hand on her side, Beca at first tensed up from Chloeâs gentle touch but eventually relaxed. After a couple moments of silence, Beca spoke.
âI didnât wanna tell you guys because I didnât wanna ruin the shopping trip⊠you seemed so excited. I didnât wanna rain on your parade.â Chloe tugged at her bottom lip, running her hand up and down Becaâs side.
âDonât hesitate to tell me things like this Becs, Iâll always be there for you. Donât feel like youâre being a burden, because youâre not. Okay?â Beca nodded. âI know you like keeping things pent up but Iâm here for you whenever okay?â Beca nodded once more as she turned over to face Chloe. The brunette slowly scooted closer to the redhead and Chloe smiled at Becaâs movements.
The redhead lowered herself onto the mattress and wrapped her arms around Beca, the brunette resting her head underneath Chloeâs. The redhead pressed a kiss on Becaâs forehead and held the brunette protectively. When she knew that Beca was asleep - the brunette is famous for being the heaviest sleeper, the runner-up being Fat Amy - she whispered softly:
âI love you so much BecaâŠâ
The redhead drifted to sleep, unbeknownst that Fat Amy and Flo had their ears pressed against the wall, and listened to the exchange between the two - other than the I love you.
Beca woke up that day to the Bellas in their hotel room, with flowers and food.
-
2016
The words exchanged with Jesse were laced with venom, the two spewing aggressive words until their voices were hoarse.
It was supposed to be a movie night, Beca found herself in Jesseâs bedroom in the Treblemakers house and the Treblemaker wouldnât quit the incessant questions about Chloe.
Sure, Beca did feel something for Chloe during her relationship with Jesse, but she stopped trying.
Jesse didnât seem to believe her.
He accused Beca of cheating, claiming that Chloe was the only one that the brunette would allow to touch her. Jesse brought up how Beca and her behaved more like a couple than they ever did, stomping his foot on the ground heavily that Beca was scared of the floor breaking underneath them.
The brunette eventually had enough, gathering her belongings and storming back to the Bellas house. She could feel the other Treblemakerâs eyes create dozens of holes on her body as she slammed their door shut.
Her walls grew stronger as she felt the tears emerge from her eyes and the intense pounding that came from her head.
Even with her walls becoming firmer and indestructible, thereâs always someone she could turn to.
Even if the situation may involve them.
Beca rushed into the Bellas house, immediately directing herself towards Chloeâs room as if she were on auto-pilot. Her thoughts rushed through her head, specifying on her feelings for Chloe; those words drowned out the Bellas calling after her in the living room. The brunette reached her hand out even before she was at Chloeâs door and once she was, she grasped the metal knob and twisted.
âBecs what-
"Jesse and I broke up.â
Chloeâs mouth didnât form a frown or a surprised expression like Beca would assume it did. Instead, the redhead smiled sweetly and stood from her mattress, walking over to Beca and wrapping her in a hug. The brunette didnât tense up for once⊠she clenched onto Chloe and sobbed, her eyes tightly closed as she gripped the back of Chloeâs shirt. The redhead rubbed circles on Becaâs back, kicking the door closed behind them. Chloe led the brunette to her bed where Beca still didnât let go.
âWanna say why you guys broke up?â
Without thinking, her mouth formed words before her brain could process them. âT-thought I was cheating on him with you because I still have feelings for you.â
When Beca realized what she said, she immediately tore herself from Chloeâs comforting grip, both letting out a slight whimper. âShit I- ChloâŠâ
Chloe could feel her own tears forming, but kept strong for the upset brunette. Instead of questioning Beca, the redhead simply reached back out for her. âWe donât have to talk about it⊠for now we can just sit here in silence if thatâs what you want?â
Beca could feel her flight or fight response pulsing throughout her petite body. She could feel her feet wanting to run and her body wanting to be away from Chloeâs.
She didnât.
Instead, Beca curled back up into Chloeâs body and closed her eyes, still sniffling as she drifted to sleep. The redhead held Beca firmly and securely and couldnât help but feel so selfish.
The girl she failed her Russian Lit exam for liked her as well.
And thatâs what managed to fill her entire brain.
-
2017
âLemme get this straight⊠you basically told Chloe that you like her and you two havenât talked about it since then.â Aubrey smacks Beca lightly on the forehead with her straw - the two agreed to meet each other in a small cafe located a few blocks away from their hotel after the whole hostage situation. Itâs early morning, still many hours away from Becaâs performance tonight.
âLook, we just never really⊠talked about it.â Aubrey begins to open her mouth but Beca stops her. âYes we live together but it just never came up.â
Aubrey only rolls her eyes. âIâve watched this sexual tension go on for so long Beca, when will you give in?â
The brunette picks apart her croissant, the flakey crumbs scattering across her lap. Her feelings for Chloe have been picking apart at Beca for so long and she could never manage to turn her thoughts into words and her words into actions.
âWhat if she doesnât like me anymore? I mean, itâs been a year.â
Aubrey smiles a bit. âItâs been 7 years and she still hasnât given up. I think youâre fine.â
Beca gapes her mouth open. âHoly shit 7 years?â Aubrey nods as the brunette shoves her head into her hands, ignoring how the silverware clattered against the table. âIâm so dumb.â
âYes, thatâs very clear.â The brunette shoots her head back up, glaring at Aubrey. âIâm kidding but yeah you were oblivious.â The blonde bites her bottom lip for a bit. âIf it means anything⊠Chloe was kind of oblivious too at first⊠she kept obsessing over you when she saw you at the activities fair. It was really clear she had a toner for you but never admitted until Hood Night.â
Becaâs head remains in her hands. âHow should I tell her?â
Aubrey waves their waiter over for the check, pulling out her cash. âThatâs for you to decide Beca.â
The brunette releases her head, finishing off her croissant before they leave.
She has an idea.
-
The brunetteâs been silent ever since she returned from her little morning conversation with Aubrey, not wanting to speak in fear she would confess at the wrong time. Her being silent wasnât much before, but now, it has everyone concerned.
Other than Aubrey of course.
her walls have been beginning to lower and ease down all because of the sweetest and sincerest redhead on planet Earth.
Her performance is inching closer and closer along with her confession. Beca is scheduled to arrive two hours earlier for a microphone check, costume, hair, and makeup. The brunette proceeds to store all of her items into her suitcase, the Bellas will be leaving Europe in two days. As Beca stores her shower supplies away, she feels a tap on her shoulder. She turns and finds Chloe standing there, smiling as great as ever.
âHey whatâs up?â
âJust wanted to wish you luck since youâre leaving in like⊠30 minutes. And also, are you okay? Youâve been kind of quiet.â
It pains Beca to not tell Chloe, especially since they are currently alone at the moment. But Beca wanted to save it for laterâŠ
âIâm fine, just kind of nervous.â
Chloe nods accordingly and pecks a kiss on Becaâs cheek - something that the brunette has become accustomed to. âWell, you got nothing to worry about.â
The redhead helps Beca with the packing process and the brunette had to bite her tongue down with every thought she had of wanting to tell Chloe.
-
Her eyes remain on Chloeâs icy blue eyes for the majority of her performance, seeing as they were the most visible amongst the crowd. Beca slowly approaching the Bellas was all apart of her plan: wanting to sing as a group one last time and to confess to Chloe.
She wasnât one for big gestures but this sure would be the biggest step that Beca has ever taken outside her comfort zone.
The brunette makes sure to surround the Bellas in the most loving hug she could muster without letting the tear flow break.
As she slowly backs up into the line with everyoneâs hand holding one anotherâs, Beca couldnât help but smile.
The crowd erupts into a gigantic cheer and Beca turns immediately on her heel, with her eyes set on Chloe.
The brunette taps Chloe on the shoulder once and she turns around right away. Before the redhead could hug Beca, the brunette cradles Chloeâs face and presses her lips onto hers. Beca takes into account how satisfying it feels to kiss the girl sheâs been chasing for so many years. The redhead kisses back with as much passion, her arms settling on Becaâs waist.
The Bellas cheer as the two kiss on stage, the crowd erupting in bursts of cheers as they continuing kissing.
Her walls have been taken down and Beca couldnât have asked for a better person to take those sturdy barriers down.
Chloe Beale never left Beca.
And thatâs what made her walls fall.
