Florence tapped her foot as she waited in line, patiently rereading the menu as she awaits her inevitable order. She's got a very specific order and she gets it every time she visits. She loves this little coffee shop, something about the cosy aesthetics drew her to the place, plus it helped that the shop was local to her house too. Plus, there was the added bonus that she’d get to see her favourite barista with every visit.
Only this time she can't exactly focus on her order, something else is bothering her. The drumming of her fingers against the counter is the same as the drumming in her temples. It’s been there ever since she woke up. An early-morning trip to a coffee shop was the only place where Florence expected she could find silence. But on this particular day, even the silence felt too loud
“Flo?” Came the sound of your voice as you recognised her from across the counter, her eyes looking up to meet your welcoming smile, “How’ve you been? It feels like ages since you last stopped by!”
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that! I’ve just been super busy lately, been away on set a lot.” She responded, trying her best to mimic her usual chippy voice but the fatigue thick in her words betrayed her efforts.
You frowned a little at her voice. It sounded strained, almost painful, “You alright there? You sound a little off”
She chuckled a little, “Yeah, just a little. I'm okay, just a little bit of a sore throat.”
“Awh, make sure you get plenty of rest then. Am I getting you the usual?”
Florence coughed a little into her elbow, “Yes please, that’d be great.”
You went forward to grab a cup for Florence’s usual chai latte but stopped. You knew she needed something else, something soothing, something like- Aha!
As you finished making her drink you hear Flo muffle such a deep and husky cough that, if you didn't know better, you'd think she was choking. But from the way she turns her head and rubs her throat you could tell it was causing her some discomfort. So, you speedily finished making her drink, sliding the cup over the counter towards her.
“There you go.” You said with a smile.
“I thought I ordered the usual?” Florence asked curiously as she took a hesitant sip of the steaming cup of tea in her hand and to surprise, it was just what she needed. Instantly she could feel some relief from the soreness at the back of her throat.
You smiled as you saw the look of relief gently wash across her features and the subtle glint of gratitude in her eyes, “I thought the tea would be better for you, help fight off that cold of yours.”
“It does feel amazing against my throat,” Florence admitted as she cradled the cup in her hands, “Thank you so much, how much do I owe you?”
You smirked as you gave her a little wink, “It’s on me, don’t worry about it.”
Her smile of thanks is genuine. She can't help but feel a lightness in her chest. A softness in her soul to see someone care so much. "You're far too kind... I can make this up to you somehow.” She says, her smile widening as she gently shifts her hands along the rim of the mug. A tinge of embarrassment creeps into her cheeks as she thinks of her own body, and the favour you so easily gave her without hesitation or demand for recompense.
You shook your head, “All you need to do is get yourself better, that’s all I ask.”
“Seriously Y/N you don’t know how much this means to me. Is that really all you want?”
“Yup, that’s all.” You smirked but you couldn’t help but fidget with your fingers as a certain idea toyed with your thoughts. If this worked then it could change your life forever and on the other hand, if it backfired miserably then you may just lose the one reason why you loved your job. With a deep, steading breath you composed yourself and reached out the grab a napkin. Using the pen from your top pocket, you quickly scribbled down a message onto it.
Florence looked at you curiously for a moment but still turned to leave, “I guess I’ll be going then-“
“No! Wait.” You hesitated for a moment but before you knew it, you picked up the napkin and handed it to her, note side down, “Theres one more thing I want.”
She opens the note and her eyes widen as she reads the message. Her cheeks flush with a shade of red that slowly crawls down her neck. "Oh... you’re really asking me this?”
You nodded, a little nervous to speak at first, “You don’t have to answer if you don’t want- I just thought- of course it’d be once you’re feeling better but-“
“Y/N, I’d love to go on a date with you.”
...and that’s how it happened. That’s how you found yourself dating the Florence Pugh. It’d been years since that fateful day and still that little napkin sat framed just beside her bed. An eternal reminder of the day you showed courage... the best day of her life.

Shelter me from the cold
Pairings: Florence x you
Words: 3047
Warnings: none
Sumamry: You and Florence are in Switzerland filming for her most recent movie when an accident occurs leaving Florence falling sick with one of the worst colds in her life.
Tumblr media
It had happened so quickly it was almost as though you'd dreamt it. One second, your girlfriend was there. She was stood in front of the camera, script in hand and and her discarded coat in the other. The next, she was gone, a loud splash and a stifled cry of surprise filling telling you just what had occurred.
Thankfully, the water wasn't at all deep, so as quickly as she'd disappeared she makes a reappearance gasping for air and she wiping her eyes. Your coat was already unzipped and off as you push past the director and crew and all but yank her soaking wet body into your arms. She clings to you tightly, her trembling hands clutching the material of your hoodie as you wrap your coat around her shoulders.
"I'm okay. I'm okay." She rushes to reassure everyone as a blanket was wrapped around her shoulders, and murmurs of relief were quick to fill both your ears. "I just need to change and then I'll be back." She informs the director as he approaches her to see if she was okay, and after squeezing her shoulder, he nods his head and tells her to take as long as she needed.
"You scared the hell out of me." You mutter as you wrap a guiding arm around her waist and pull her towards her trailer.
Florence looks up you, cheeks flushed with cold and bottom lip quivering. "You and me both." She laughs softly, and though you roll your eyes at her nonchalance, you couldn't help but give her one last squeeze before pulling open the trailer door and coaxing her inside.
"Go get a hot shower." You tell her as you close the trailer door behind you. "I'll pick you out some dry clothes."
Florence nods with a smile as she disappears through to the small bathroom area, the distinct sound of the water hitting the tiled floor filling your ears as you rummage through her bag to find her some dry clothes.
Thankfully, today was only a run through of the scene they were shooting, so she wasn't wearing her characters clothes when she'd fallen. Though you supposed it wouldn't have mattered considering they had several sets of each anyway.
With a pair of sweatpants and comfy hoodie in your hands, you make your way over to the bathroom and bring your fist up to knock at the wooden door. A faint come in escapes through the small gap, and you comply, setting the clothes down into counter before coming to stand by the partially open curtain.
Florence was stood facing the shower, arms crossed against her chest as the water falls down her body. If the way the steam slowly filling the room was anything to go by, the water was scolding. That comes as no surprise to you. Whilst you tended to prefer showers on the warmer side, Florence was the complete opposite. The hotter the water, the better.
"I feel like the lake waters seeped into my bones. I'm still so cold." She greets you as she turns her head and gives you a small smile, and you grin slightly as you lean against the wall. Her hair was tied up, so you knew she had no intentions of washing it. It leads you to grab a towel from the heated rail, holding it out ready for when she comes out.
"You're gonna turn into a lobster," you note, and Florence snorts in amusement as she reaches to turn off the water before stepping out. The second her wet body was exposed to the cool air, she begins to tremble, and you were quick to bundle her up into the towel and pull her back into your arms.
You feel Florence's warm breath hit the skin of your neck as she rests her head against your shoulder, and the corners of your lips quirk up into a soft grin as you cup the back of her head and press a kiss to her hair.
"Go get warm, okay? I'll make you some yea." You tell her as you pull her body away from you, giving in to the urge to press a gentle peck to her cute button nose.
Florence scrunches it up slightly in response, and you couldn't help but grin at the sight before giving her some privacy to change.
*
"Huh'tsschoo!"
Was the sound that startles you awake the next day, and you frown in confusion as you shift to your elbow and look around the room.
When your eyes complete the three sixty and land on the other side of the bed, you see Florence, sat up in bed with her hands cupping her face. She was looking at you with wide eyes, and you frown in confusion for just a small second before your sleep deprived brain seemingly catches on to the issue.
You reach for the tissues, pulling two out of the box and handing them over. She sends you a grateful smile as she takes them from you and makes quick work of blowing her nose.
"Good morning to you too," you mumble as you lay back down and raise your arms above your head to stretch, and Florence gives you an apologetic look as she tosses the tissue into the trash before curling up against your side.
"Sorry darling." She rests her head against your chest and lets out a soft sigh. You smile slightly as you wrap an arm around her before beginning to trail your hand up and down her back.
"You're not getting sick, are you?" You ask in concern.
After filming had finished yesterday, Florence had seemed a little under the weather, but when you’d asked she had blamed it on being tired.
You were a little suspicious considering the event that had taken place just hours prior, but she was adamant she was okay and seeing as though you had no other reason to doubt her, you had simply coaxed her into bed a little earlier than normal.
"I don't think so," Florence shrugs as she begins to trail her finger over the hem of your shirt. "I feel okay. Maybe it was just a...a..."
You frown in confusion when she cuts herself off, but when you look down at her, you see why. Her face was scrunched up into that cute pre sneeze expression, and it takes only moments for her to let out a few hitched breaths before stifling a sneeze against your shirt.
"H'htschoo!"
You couldn’t help but startle slightly at the loudness.
"God, sorry. That came out of nowhere." Florence grumbles as she reaches for another tissue, and you frown in concern as you brush her hair away from her face.
"It's okay, baby. But I think you might be getting a little sick." You tell her, and she groans in annoyance as she wipes her nose with a congested sniffle.
"I'm so glad I'm not working today," she grumbles as she drops her head back against your chest, and you smile slightly as you continue with the gentle ministrations against her back. "That would have been hell."
"It would," you agree, pressing your lips against the top of her head. She sighs against you again, and you take it upon yourself to go and get her some medicine. You were under the impression that if you started medicating her now, the oncoming cold wouldn't hit her as hard as usual. "I'll be right back, okay? I'm gonna go get you some tea and medicine."
Florence nods as she looks up at you with a sleepy smile, and you couldn't help but lean down and press a chaste kiss to her lips before disappearing through to the bathroom.
Several more sneezes fill your ears as you make quick work of grabbing some Tylenol and making her some of her favourite Yorkshire tea, and you pout softly as you carry both items through to the bedroom along with a bottle of water.
Florence was now sat up against the headboard of the bed with her phone in her hand, and you smile as the sight as you sit yourself back down next to her.
"Here baby, get this down you." You murmur, and Florence takes the tea gratefully before bringing it to her lips for a cautious sip. She lets out a soft sigh of relief as she swallows, the hot liquid obviously doing wonders on her throat. "Take this too." You hold out two pills, and after setting her tea aside, Florence easily swallows them down with some water.
"Thanks darling." She smiles as she hands back the water, and you nod, watching as she once again reaches for her tea.
*
As the day progresses, so do Florence's symptoms. By now, she was so congested she could barely breath through her nose. Her fever had hit 101 and her poor throat was raw due to the constant and repetitive throat scraping sneezes and coughs.
"This sucks. You suck." She moans into the comforter after another sneeze, and you make a mental note to change the bedding before heading to bed tonight as you climb into the bed next to her.
"Why do I suck?" You muse playfully as you rest your hand on the back of her head and comb your fingers through her short hair.
Florence huffs as she buries her face into the side of your thigh, and you smile in amusement. Said smile was wiped from your face just seconds later when -"Huh'hptschoo!" - she sneezes, all over your leg.
"Eww flo," you complain, and she lets out a congested chuckle as she brings a hand up to wipe at her nose. You playfully shove her away from you and wipe both the snot and saliva off of your bare skin of your thigh.
"You are disgusting." You grumble, and she simply winks at you before turning onto her back and letting out a hoarse cough. Any and all amusement fades from your face when it sounded like she was attempting to cough up gravel.
"Alright you little germ bug. I think it's time for more medicine." You muse as you grab both the Tylenol and cough medicine off of the nightstand, and Florence huffs slightly as she sits herself up.
When she simply opens her mouth, you roll your eyes fondly and place the two pills onto her tongue. She swallows them down with water before eyeing you with a scowl as you pour out the required dose of cough medicine into the small plastic cup.
"Ew." She grumbles as she takes it and swallows with a slight grimace, and you press a soothing kiss to the side of her head as you screw the cap back on before placing the glass bottle back onto the nightstand.
After settling yourself back against the headboard of the bed, you hold out your arms invitingly. Florence doesn't hesitate fall against you, her hands clinging to the material of your shirt as her head settles on your chest. Her breathing was still full of congestion, and you could feel each and every hoarse puff of air hitting your skin.
After pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head, you slip your hand beneath her shirt and begin tracing the tips of your fingers over the warm skin of her back. She nuzzles closer at the action, and the corners of your lips instinctively curl up into a small grin.
*
"This is gross. I cant taste anything." Florence grumbles as she defeatedly swirls her spoon around the soup you'd made her, her face crumpled up onto a look of annoyance.
Setting down your own nearly empty bowl, you take hers from her lap and send her what you hoped was a comforting smile, "Would it make you feel better if I fed you?" You tease, and her eyes light up with slight amusement as she wipes her nose.
"No. But I'll let you anyway." She retorts, and you roll your eyes playfully as you scoop up some of the soup. This was the first thing Florence had managed to bring herself to eat today, so you knew she was bummed out by not being able to taste anything.
Especially because you had used one of her dads recipes.
"How kind of you." You mutter, and Florence snorts slightly as she opens up her mouth and allows you to feed her.
“Nope,” she sighs heavily. “Still nothing.”
You simply smile sympathetically.
Florence manages the rest of her soup without a single word of complaint, but you could tell she wasn't the slightest bit impressed. She eyes the empty bowl with distaste as carry them out of the room, and that same look was still on her face when you walk back into the room.
"Let's take a bath," you tell her as you lean against the edge of the bed and reach for her hands, "the hot water might help ease your congestion." Florence eyes you for a second before nodding, taking your offered hands and allowing you to tug her onto her feet before following you into the bathroom.
"Are you getting in too?" She questions as she swings your hands back and forth, and hum slightly in confirmation as you bend down to turn on the water. After checking the temperature of the water and making sure it was a little on the hotter side, you put in the stopper and watch as the claw foot tub begins to fill.
You then turn to face Florence who was looking at you with a hopeful expression on her face, and you cup her cheeks and press a kiss to her forehead.
"Of course." You tell her, and she bounces slightly on her toes as she tugs you into a hug. With a soft laugh, you were quick to return the embrace. The love you had for her was beyond words.
After the tub had filled to a sufficient amount, you stop the water and tug on the bottom of her shirt. Understanding your silent implication, Florence raises her arms above your head and allows you to tug the item of clothing from her body. Just seconds after pulling off her pants, she bends forward at the waist and brings her hands up to cover her nose and mouth.
"H…H'htschoo! H'hptchoo!"
"Bless you baby." You murmur, and Florence smiles appreciatively as she grabs some toilet paper and blows her nose.
You take the time to strip off as she washes her hands, holding back your slight wince as you settle yourself into the hot water. You hold out your hand, and Florence takes it before stepping into the tub in front of you. She settles in between your legs with her back to her chest and lets out a content sigh, and could help but roll your eyes slightly at the sound.
Of course the water wasn't hot for her.
Securing your arms around her waist, you let out a quiet sigh and rest your head against the back of the tub. You feel Florence's fingers begin to trace random circles across your skin, and you smile a little at the sensation as you press a kiss against the back of her head.
Your peaceful silence, however, was interrupted no more than a few seconds later. "Hitschoo!" Her head bobs slightly as she uses her free hand to cover her mouth.
"Bless you." You murmur, and Florence nods. Seconds later, she sneezes again. This one louder than before.
"Hiitshhiew!" She lifts a hand and rubs at the tip of her nose in a futile attempt at quelling the itch. It doesn't seem to work.
"Hh'iiishiu! Huh'htschoo! Hh...H'tsshiew!" She lets out a congested groan as her head falls back against your shoulder.
"Bless you." You coo softly as you tighten your arms around her waist and press a kiss to the side of head, and Florence sniffles thickly as she rubs at her nose.
"I think it's definitely helping with the congestion." You add in amusement, and Florence groans slightly as she sinks further into the water. With a small smile, you reach for the shampoo before placing your hands underneath her armpits and tugging her back up into a sitting position.
"Can I wash your hair?" You ask, and Florence nods her head in consent as she wipes her nose with her hand. Although you grimace slightly at the sight, you wisely say nothing and instead focus on wetting her hair. Due to how short it was, it takes you no time at all, and you soon find yourself helping Florence out of the tub and once again bundling her up into a towel.
Just as you go to grab your own towel, her face contorts into that pre sneeze expression. Her nostrils flare and her breath hitches, and your eyes widen as you quickly grab the front of her towel and hold it up to her face. She sneezes forcefully into it three times before the itch in her nose disappears, and you pout softly in sympathy as you grab some tissue and wipe off her cupids bow.
"I think it's time for some more medicine and then bed." You tell as you trash the now soiled tissue, and she sniffles thickly with a nod of agreement. Before you could begin to lead her back through to the bathroom, she steps into your arms and wraps her arms around her shoulders.
"Up." She murmurs, and you give her a soft squeeze before bending down and wrapping your arms beneath her behind. She immediately hooks her legs around your waist, and after pressing a fond kiss to her bare shoulder, you carry her back through to your shared bedroom before easing her back down onto her feet.
She leans up on her tiptoes and presses an appreciative kiss to your cheek before disappearing into the closet to find some pyjamas, and you watch her go with a small smile as you begin drying yourself off.
You hoped she'd feel better tomorrow.

CW: religious trauma, eating disorders
Just watched the wonder and I think all the people saying how it was only good because of Florence (who I love btw) and that the 4th wall breaks were confusing are missing the point.
The story isn't about a girl who doesn't eat.
It's about religious trauma and the power stories have.
(Spoilers and more analysis under the cut)
At the very start you are asked to suspend your disbelief. In the context of Anna's fasting, she is allowed (and encouraged) to continue because of others suspension of disbelief.
The adults around her believe that it is possible because of God and the will of heaven. This story that they have told themselves and told Anna prevents the true problem from being addressed.
Anna's mother has also told herself a story about her son. She wants to believe her son was good, that he would go to heaven, but she also knows that it isn't true. So to help convince herself and ease her loss, she believes that Anna can save him.
Religion is powerful at helping with loss. But when people believe someone they love will burn forever, how can religion help? They provide a solution. Fasting and prayer will allow him to ascend to heaven. And because Anna believes she is also responsible for his death, she tries so hard to save him from a story she's been told.
On the opposite side, Lib doesn't believe the story. She doesn't suspend her disbelief, and this is shown in her interactions with the narrator. She is also an observer, just as the viewer is.
By the end of the story, she realises that Anna needs a story to believe in. So she creates one: of a child picked by God to die, and a child who is reborn from that child who has no sins to atone for.
She turns Anna's suffering into a character that Anna can kill by becoming Nan. And it works.
When, at the end of the film, we reveal the set again, it reflects Anna's story - she has escaped a terrible story and ended the belief that she must save her brother. It frees her to have a new start, while still learning from what happened in the past.
The narrator's character knows the truth but doesn't interfere with the story, just as the narrator does when not in character.
The narrator is the author, Lib is the reader, and Anna is the character.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing by the pirates
Harriet (at Mal): Hahaha, this is about you
Cj (to Uma): Beware, beware, be skeptical
Of their smiles, their smiles of plated gold
Harry: Deceit so natural
Uma: But a wolf in sheep's clothing is more than a warning
Harriet: Baa baa, black sheep, have you any soul?
Harry: No sir, by the way, what the hell are morals?
Uma: Ben be nimble, Ben be quick
Mal's a little whore, and her alibis are dirty tricks
So could you
All four (as they’re darting around the tree): Tell me how she’s sleeping easy
How she’s only thinking of herself
Show me how she justifies
Telling all her lies like second nature
Harriet: Listen,
Cj: mark my words, one day
Harry: one day
Uma (at Ben): she will pay,
(At Mal)
YOU WILL PAY!!!!
Cj: Karma's gonna come collect your debt
(She launches herself at the tree and holds a knife to Mal’s neck)
Aware, aware, you stalk your prey
With criminal mentality
Harriet: You sink your teeth into the people you depend on
Harry: Infecting everyone,
Uma: you're quite the problem
Harry (mockingly): Fee-fi-fo-fum, you better run and hide
Cj: I smell the blood of a petty little coward
Uma: Ben be lethal, Ben be slick
Mal will leave you lonely, dying in a filthy ditch
So could you
All four (resuming the dance): Tell me how she’s sleeping easy
How she’s only thinking of herself
Show me how she justifies
Telling all her lies like second nature
Uma: Listen, mark my words, one day
The Hook’s: one day
Uma: she will pay,
YOU WILL PAY!!!!
Cj: Karma's gonna come collect your debt
Uma: Maybe she'll change
Harriet: Abandon all her wicked ways
Cj: Make amends and start anew again
Harry: Maybe she'll see
Uma: All the wrongs she did to me
Harry: And start all over?
Cj: start all over?
Uma: Who am we kidding?
Cj: Now, let's not get overzealous here
Harriet: she’s always been a huge piece of shit
Harry: If I could kill her, I would
Cj: But it's frowned upon in all these stupid states
Harriet: Having said that,
Cj: burn
Harry: in
Uma: HELL!!!!
The Hook’s (as Uma turns the ground around the tree into turquoise fire): yeah
Harriet: Oh,
Harry: oh,
Cj: oh
All four (tauntingly to the Auradonians): So tell me how she’s sleeping easy
How she’s only thinking of herself
Show me how she justifies
Telling all her lies like second nature
Uma: Listen, mark my words, one day
The Hook’s: one day
All four: You will pay, you will pay
Cj: Karma's gonna come collect your debt
Harriet: Karma's gonna come collect your debt
Uma: Karma's gonna come collect your debt

Empyrean’s Advent: Day 20
Prompt: “Jeez! Bless you! I think I felt the room shake that time.”
Pairing: Sick Florence Pugh x Reader
Wordcount: 644
< Previous || Next >
‿︵‿︵୨˚̣̣̣͙୧ - - ୨˚̣̣̣͙୧‿︵‿ ‿︵‿︵୨˚̣̣̣͙୧ - - ୨˚̣̣̣͙୧‿︵‿︵
“Of course I get sick during my week off, why wouldn’t I?” Florence groaned sarcastically as she dumped another tissue into the overflowing trashcan beside her, “Ugh! My nose just wont stop running.”
“I know babe, its not fair, is it?” You sympathised. It really wasn’t fair either. Usually whenever Florence got ill, her colds usually gave her no trouble, only really causing some mild sniffles and a light sore throat but this was different. Cold and Flu season in the UK had been especially bad this year, and unfortunately it happened to be particularly bad in the area where you and Flo lived. And so the virus had finally claimed its first victim in your household. Florence was miserable, she truly was, her head hurt and her muscles ached - not to mention the constant burning soreness at the back of her throat.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart." You rest a hand against her forehead, its coolness an immediate remedy for the dull, burning sensation lingering in her skull. It was like her brain was being slowly roasted over a bed of coals. "Is there anything I can do to help?" You offered, draping a thick, warm blanket over Florence as she laid on the sofa, barely able to pay attention to her whichever random movie was playing on the TV infront of her.
Florence thought for a moment before asking, “Do we have an- Hh’iitshiew! Hh-iitishiew! – any decongestant?”
“First of all, bless you. And I don’t think we do but once you’ve fallen asleep, I’ll go out and get you some, anything else?”
“Some more tissues wouldn’t hurt? Im almost out again.” She sighed, gesturing down to the almost-empty box which sat on the floor beneath her.
“You’re really putting a serious dent in the tissue population Flo’ y’know?” You smirked, sitting down on the sofa opposite to her, watching with a grin as she rolled her eyes at your remark.
“Im aware of that.” Her voice is hoarse and nasally as she drags a palm along her brow, “I don’t think I’ve ever been this miserable.”
“I’ve never seen you this sick.”
A moment of silence stretches on between the two of you. Then, she sighs, and in a small, croaky voice, she admits, "This is the sickest I've ever been. I can barely sit up..."
You sighed, feeling her sickness pulling at your heart strings you decided to get up to get and sit beside her. Running a hand through her messy hair, you helped her sit up a little, “Hopefully you’ll feel better soon.”
“Yeah..." She turns her face toward yours and nuzzles her nose into your neck, letting you cradle her head upon your shoulder.
It went quite again as you sat there holding her. The room was oddly silent as she settled into your hold, everything was calm for a moment until you Florence began to stir beside you, her breath hitching slightly as she tried to pull away from you.
“Hh-ttshiew! Hheh’TSHHIEW!”
Florence’s body stiffened against you as she sneezed loudly down into the blanket surrounding her.
“Jeez! Bless you! I think I felt the room shake that time.” You exclaimed, not hiding your surprise at her loud outburst before reaching down to grab the last few tissues from her box and handing them to her.
Your girlfriend gave a moan of discomfort as she blew her nose with the tissues, “I hate this so much. My head feels like it's going to explode.” She whined as she shuffled around slightly so she would be able to lean against your shoulder comfortably, letting herself sigh as she sank into you.
“You’ll be okay sweetie, just try and get some rest and let yourself sleep off this yucky bug, hm?” You said, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead as her eyes fluttered closed, “You’ll feel better soon I promise.”

Trying And Failing To Hide
〚 Day 4 - Hiding an Illness 〛
〚 Pairing - Florence Pugh x Reader 〛
〚 Summary - You really can't hide anything from your wife. 〛
〘 Check Out My Masterlist! 〙〘 Sicktember 2023 Masterlist 〙
Tumblr media
Your eyes cast down to the floor as you muffled another rough sounding cough against the back of your wrist, subtly trying to avoid the concerned over-watching eyes of the woman before you. Florence was sitting on the couch across from you, her brow furrowed with worry. She had noticed your frequent coughing and occasional sneezes, but you had been doing your best to downplay them, not wanting her to fuss over you – you both had busy schedules and you didn’t want to distract her from that.
After listening to your continued sniffly she seemed to have enough of your stubbornness as she tilted her head slightly, her eyebrows furrowing with worry as she asked, "Are you feeling alright, darling?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine concern.
You forced a smile, trying to mask the exhaustion and discomfort that lingered beneath the surface. "I'm just a little tired, Flo," you replied, your voice coming out hoarser then intended, "Long day at work, that's all."
Florence's expression softened, and she stepped closer, reaching out to gently brush her hand against your forehead. "You feel warm but that might just be because it’s a little stuffy in here. Let go open a window, hold on," she murmured, kissing your forehead before going over to open one of the windows forcing you to hide the shiver then ran up your arms at the sudden cool air hitting you skin, "Maybe you should take a break and relax a bit. I can handle dinner tonight if you’d like." She said as she came to sit beside you.
As she sat down, you couldn’t help offer her a small smile as her hand came to rest on your thigh, “That’s really sweet but honestly, I’m fine. It’s my turn to cook tonight.”
She sighed a little at your response but let it go, that was until you felt the tickle begin to irritate your nose. All attempts at getting rid of it failed and you were left desperately trying to hold it back, but as much as you resisted, you couldn't suppress the inevitable.
"Huh’tschoo!"
The sneeze burst forth, surprising you with its forcefulness and you quickly stood up and disappeared to go grab some tissue.
When you returned to the sofa, Florence was sitting with her arms crossed, her eyes visibly questioning you prompting you to quickly wave a dismissive hand, "What? All I did was sneeze! It’s probably just some dust or allergies. You know how it is this time of year."
Your wife studied you intently, her concern etched across her face. "Darling, your sneezes don't usually sound like that plus since when do you have allergies. And with the coughing too... Are you sure you're not coming down with something?"
Her caring eyes bore into yours, waiting for an honest answer that you weren't ready to give. You sighed, realizing that you couldn't keep up the charade any longer.
“It’s just a small cold.”
With your confession Flo visibly softened and you felt her arm coming to wrap around your shoulder, providing a much-welcomed warmth from the goosebumps that had dappled your skin. “How come you didn’t want to tell me, hm?” She asked gently, no anger in her words.
"I didn't want to worry you," you admitted, your voice filled with a mixture of exhaustion and sincerity. "We both have so much on our plates, I thought I could handle it on my own." You didn’t try to muffle your cough this time and you felt a supportive hand come to trace down your back.
Flo sighed softly, her thumb gently caressing your shoulder in a soothing manner. "Darling, we're partners, in sickness and in health. It's not a burden to take care of each other; it's what we signed up for when we committed to this relationship. Keeping it from me only adds to my worry. I'd rather know what's going on so I can support you."
You looked into her eyes, seeing nothing but love and understanding reflected in them. The weight of your silence lifted as you leaned into her touch, feeling a sense of relief wash over you. "I'm sorry, Flo," you whispered, your voice barely above a breath. "I should have told you."
She leaned closer, pressing a gentle kiss to your temple. "Apology accepted, my love. Now, let me take care of you. You need rest and some TLC." It was then she seemed to notice your small shivers, “How about I run you a nice bath, maybe some bubbles and I could even diffuse some that really good smelling oil you like. Whatever you’d like.”
You couldn't help but smile at your wife’s loving offer. Her caring nature always had a way of making you feel safe and cherished. "That sounds amazing sweetie." You replied, your voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you."
As she got up from the couch, she pulled you into a warm embrace, holding you close. You could feel her concern radiating through her touch, and it made your heart swell with affection. "I love you," she whispered against your hair, her voice filled with tenderness.
"I love you too," you murmured, feeling a mixture of emotions swirling within you. With Florence by your side, you knew you didn't have to face this cold alone.

“You’ll get sick if you go out in the cold with wet hair.” Florence mumbled as she read off the random article on her phone, “I’m blaming this crap on that.” She said with a small sniffle, rolling over on the sofa so that she was laying on her side instead of on her back, her head still comfortably in your lap.
"I think that's just an old wives tale darling," You hummed in reply, as you reached forward to grab some tissues, handing one to her before sniffling into your own, "We've both been running around at those press tours all week, we probably picked up something there, I doubt the rain helped at all though."
The rain had been relentless during the press tours, drenching everything in its path and turning the bustling streets into a maze of puddles. Despite sharing an umbrella and trying to stay dry it seemed neither of you managed to escape the persistent pouring. Getting sick did seem to have its plus sides though, for one the two of you had an excuse to stay inside all day and just hide away from the world and secondly, it gave you both the opportunity to spend some private quality time together – even if it was punctuated by sniffles.
Florence shifted slightly, her head still resting in your lap as she mustered a weak smile. "What would you say to me going and grabbing us some of that ice cream we bought?”
You raised an eyebrow, unable to deny the temptation of the cool treat, “Oh, that does sound good actually,” You gave into a small smile, “It’ll help your throat a bit, are you sure you want to get it? I can go grab it.”
She waved your worry away with a casual hand. "I’ll be fine darling, I’ll survive the journey to the kitchen, don't worry your pretty little head about that.” Florence grinned as she slowly sat up, wincing at the ache in her sinuses. "I'll be back before you know it, darling." She gingerly got to her feet and shuffled towards the kitchen, her oversized sweater sleeves falling over her hands.
You heard the soft clinking of utensils and the refrigerator door opening. A brief silence was followed by the muffled sound of Flo sneezing loudly. It was a sound that made you chuckle softly despite the situation.
"Bless you darling!" You called out from the living room, your voice filled with affectionate amusement before you reached forward to grab the remote, casually beginning to scroll through the channels as you looked for something to watch.
Florence's voice carried back to you, slightly nasally, "Thanks.” She smiled, coming back into view holding two bowls, each having numerous scoops of icecream. She’d given you strawberry whist she’d gone for vanilla.
You both began to eat in contented silence, occasionally sharing soft smiles and stolen glances. The ice cream was a temporary relief against the aching of your throats, and you savoured every spoonful.
After a while, Florence set her empty bowl aside and turned her attention to you. "Feeling a bit better now?" she asked, her voice still slightly congested but she did sound a little cheerier now.
You nodded, feeling the warmth of her enveloping you. "Yeah, you and icecream seem to make everything better." You replied, reaching out to gently caress her cheek.
She leaned into your touch; her eyes filled with affection. "You're such a sweetheart," she murmured, placing a gentle kiss on your lips.
Time seemed to slip away as you continued to watch TV, as you cuddled into your girlfriends side you were powerless to stop your eyes from growing heavy and tired. You let out a soft yawn, and Flo sat up a little, looking down at your curiously.
"Getting tired, love?" she asked, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on your arm.
You nodded, unable to stifle another yawn, “A Little.”
“Okay, stand up for a sec’.” She instructed, which you did so, watching as she handed you her blanket and led down fully on the sofa, patting her chest as you titled your head, “C’mere, lay down on me.”
It was impossible to hide how your lips perked up into a small smile as you laid down on her chest, wrapping the blanket over yourself, in turn covering her too, tucking it in at the sides. “Thank you.” You murmured softly moving to rest your head on her chest "I’m glad we're in this together."
She nodded, her hand coming to rest on your back as you cuddled into her, closing your eyes,"That’s true, I mean, misery loves company, right?"

“Im surprised your brain hasn’t fried yet.” You hummed as you leant down to place a damp cloth over her fevered brow.
Florence gave you a weak thumbs up before turning to muffle a cough into the pillow which her head rested on.
“How are we meant to go out later? I can barely walk.” She wheezed, in all honestly you found it surprising that she still wanted to go.
“That’s why you’re not going to walk at all. Your going to stay in bed, I don’t think you ought to be drinking in your condition.” You said, looking around your drawers for a thermometer.
Luckily for you, you found one a moment later and with a small noise of self satisfaction you instructed Flo to place it under her tongue.
“Is this really necessary?” Her garbled voice came as the small object slurred her speech.
It beeped a moment later, taking it out of her mouth you looked down to read the small digital number.
“That’s abit high for my liking.” You noted, wandering over to your ensuit bathroom to grab the packet of paracetamol which sat on the countertop, you picked them up and quickly poured a glass of water, “Take these please.” You instructed as you came out of the bathroom and handed her the water and pills.
She did as told, taking the pills without being asked twice. “Satisfied?” She asked, her voice laced with congestion and fatigue.
“Very much so.” You smirked, coming round to sneak into the bed, snuggling into her.
You felt her budge up against you, leaning into your warmth.
“I still wish we could’ve gone out tonight.” She mumbled tiredly, yawning widely just before her nose twitched making her look akin to a small rabbit, “Hh’itshhhiew!”
She sniffled, bringing her head up from the blanket which she had quickly pulled up to her face
“First of all, bless you. Second of all, I just washed these sheets Flo’” You raised an eyebrow at her before tucking the tissue box from your nightstand neatly beside her, “And third of all, I don’t really think you’re up to partying, do you?”
She shook her head against your side, you pulled the duvet closely around the two of you.
“Maybe next year we’ll go out sweetheart..” You smiled, slipping your hand around her as her eyes started to close.
“Maybe.”

sick florence and reader on easter using the prompts “Im not sure eating chocolate is going to make you feel better.” and “No, we can still enjoy our day. This is nothing.”
Medical Professional
3 in one night?! Wow. Im really treating yall here. Anywho, this is my first attempt at writing for Florence, hopefully it’s adequate. PLEASE let me know how you find it :)
░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░
You both knew that she was sick. Infact it was obvious. Her exhausted eyes, red runny nose and fever flushed cheeks made it rather obvious. But that didn’t stop the fact the it was one of her favourite days of the year.
Easter.
Flo loved Easter. Why wouldn’t she? All the candy, sweets and sugar would make anyone happy. So when she woke up that morning, feeling like a block of cement had settled in the sinuses along with the fact that her throat felt like it was now lined with sandpaper, it was safe to say that she was less then happy.
But, she was adamant on spending the day how you usually did. You came into your kitchen to find her biting off a chunk of a small Cadburys easter egg. You couldn’t help but simultaneously sigh and chuckle to yourself.
“Im not sure eating chocolate is going to make you feel better.” You chided lightly, pouring a cup of tea for the pair of you, making sure to add extra honey into hers.
“Thanks.” She put down the chocolate and accepted the mug which you offered out to her before adding, “And sure it will, chocolate is meant to heal every illness that plagues mankind.”
You raised an eyebrow, fighting back your laughter and maintaining a serious face, “Oh really? Which medical professional told you that?”
“Wikipedia.”
There was silence for 2 seconds before you both erupted into laughter. Even sick she still had her humour. Though her laughter did come at a cost, Flo found herself coughing hard into her elbow.
You came round instantly to rub a hand down her back, slowly soothing her down as she re- caught her breath.
“Maybe you should take it easy today.” You said, looking through the cupboards for any medicine that might’ve been stashed there.
“Nope. We are still going to enjoy our day. This is nothing.” She gave you a quick kiss, albeit on your cheeks rather then your lips but still, it was better then nothing.
“Could we maybe go for a walk later?” She asked hopefully.
“Seeing as its recommended to get fresh air daily by medical professionals.” You flashed her a cheeky smile, “Sure.”

sick reader and florence on easter using the prompts “Wait… Are those flowers in bloom?” and “No, we can still enjoy our day. This is nothing.”
The Meds Are On Me, Okay?
Hey hey! Hows everybodys day gone? Heres another drabble to add to the pile, enjoy :D
░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░
To most people Easter was fun, it meant a relaxed day of eating chocolate, catching up with family or even going to church (if you believe if that sort of stuff). But for you Easter was nothing special, just an ordinary day. That was until you met Florence.
Florence loved everything about Easter, the atmosphere, the events, she just loved the day itself. Which is why your enjoyment of the day had slowly started to grow.
The two of you had even gotten your own ‘traditional’ of sorts. Every Easter Florence took you out for a meal at the Indian restaurant not too far from your apartment, which was always the highlight of your day.
You held hands with her as you both walked down the street towards the restaurant. When suddenly she stopped as you passed a small florist store. Giving you a soft kiss before smirking and saying, “Wait right here.”
You smiled at her as she disappeared into the shop. Only to remerge 2 minutes later offering a colourful bunch of flowers out to you, a bright grin was spread across her face.
“Oh these are gorgeous.” You kissed her before taking a deep breath of the flowery scent.
You knew your mistake instantly, immediately after, your nose had begun to tickle intensely. You only had a split second to turn away from Florence and bury your nose into your elbow, almost dropping the flowers themselves.
“H’iitshhhiew! Hup’tshiuew! H.hH..HhiiITSHOO!”
The sneezes gave you almost no relief as the itch persisted in your sinsus’. Meanwhile Florence looked on, giving you a exclaimed, “Jeez Y/N, bless you!”
“Im no- not Hh..Hieptshhhiew! -not done- Hhhiitshoo!” You managed to stammer out before ducking down to catch another set of sneezes.
Florence blessed you again, only when you looked up this time, you saw that her eyes were filled with concern.
“Whats irritating that nose of yours?” She asked, running a hand down your back as you regained your prior composure.
You didn’t want to tell her that it was the flowers which she had so gallantly bought you, but what choice did you have? There was no wiggling your way out of this one, “Are these flowers in bloom?” You asked, already knowing the answer.
“Oh.” The realisation finally hit her, “Your hayfever...”
She took the flowers from you, resting them on a small bench outside the shop. You saw guilt seep into her eyes so you quickly pulled her into a tight hug, reassuring her that it wasn’t her fault all whilst stifling another round of painful sounding sneezes.
“Right, well obviously we should get you home.” She sighed, turning back in the direction of your appointment.
“No.” You said bluntly, taking her hand to stop her from walking, “We can still enjoy our day this is nothing. I just probably need buy some allergy medicine then everything will be fine.”
Florence’s smile returned and kissed you again, “Fine. Only because I love you, but I’m paying for it, your hayfever meds are on me, okay.”
“I think that’s fair.”
