Jack had been somewhat enjoying a date with his current fling Chloé something or other, he didn't really know and he didn't really care, she wasn't going to last. The chick was tiktok famous or something to that effect. Chloé was kinda cute, but not as cute as ...

"Oh my god, Jack, it's her. It's really her, Flora Rae. She's so pretty. I want to be her. I bet she's super nice." Chloe pointed the popular actress who had just entered the little café.

Flora Rae the famous actress. The girl Jack met when he was 18 on a trip to New York. They were young and in love. But he screwed that up after he said something he shouldn’t had.

"I'm going to introduce myself" The influencer traipsed over to where the actress. Jack could see them chatting animatedly and he sank in his seat when Chloé pointed over to him.

He knew he should have tried to stop Chloé, but he was just baffled that the girl who he still loved was there in the same restaurant as he was. She looked great. The past three years had done her well.

Three years. That was the last time he saw her. It had been three years since it happened.

Before he knew it Chloé came back in a huff. “She’s so rude.”

“What did she say?” Jack furrowed his brow. That wasn’t like her. Flora was never rude and didn’t have a mean bone in her body. Not even when pictures got leaked of her crying at a funeral.

“That’s just it nothing! She kept nodding her head but wouldn’t speak.”

They went back to their date and acted like nothing had happened. When Chloé had gone to the bathroom, Jack saw an opportunity to say something to her. Gathering the his courage he stood from the table and wandered over.

"Hi, Flora." He slid into the booth she was sitting in.

"Jack" She nodded, going back to playing with the food on her plate, suddenly loosing her appetite.

“You look good. I saw that movie you were in that just came out. It was really good.” He tried complimenting her.

“Um thanks I guess.” There was an awkward pause between them.

"I want to apologize." Jack swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbled. "What I said that night wasn't alright. I didn't mean it. You were fantastic. You were hurting, I was hurting. But that doesn't make it okay."

Flora could see he was being sincere with his apology. The words he had uttered that had ultimately ended their relationship were forever etched in her brain, and she wasn't ready to let it go yet.

"When was the last time you visited Callan? You know where he is right?" She fired back. Even though it had been years at the point, she wasn't ready to forgive how he had insinuated that she was a bad mother.

"That's what I thought" Flora mumbled when Jack shut his mouth. She thee a couple of bucks on the table and stood up. She was done. “Now if you’ll excuse me. I need to go. I want to get to the cemetery early tomorrow to see our son.”

After showing Agent Silva the radio telescope and radio tower the SCIA helped fund, they walked to the electrical substation. Telling her as much as she remembered from Fergus's initial explanation about the inner workings of the wind turbines.

Arriving at the town hall, she told her about how all buildings are planned as zero energy houses, something that Caleb specialised in.

She showed her the little museum, while emphazising all the hours Flora spent at the dig site.

Before leaving, Finley had called Fergus and Rae and asked them to meet her and the SCIA Agent at the town hall.

"Thanks for coming!"

"I'm only here because you asked me to. Not because I think my research is anyone's business.", Fergus frowned.

"Please just be nice! And don't talk about weird stuff, please?"

"So that's where all the money went. I think it was well spent.", Finley said firmly.

"I actually agree", Callista smiled.

When they arrived at Finley's house Flora had come over to visit Caleb. So the four of them spent the evening discussing the future of Pinaccle Peaks. Agent Silva also told them that the SCIA had found a new possible resident, but the screening process would take until spring.

While the visit was not unpleasant, Finley was relieved when Agent Silva finally said her gooodbyes.

this week fic writers, gif-makers, video editors, and artists have to include flora in their creations in whatever way inspires them. flora, in this case, refers to all types of plants, flowers, and trees. maybe art could depict buck giving eddie flowers, or a fic could have buck and eddie having a picnic at a park. maybe a gifmaker can talk about the kinds of flowers buddie have represented through the seasons, or a video could be made featuring the song joshua tree by carly rae jepsen. the possibilities are endless!

you can choose whatever you want this challenge to mean to you. be wild, be creative, be silly. have fun!

The tapping of a pen against a clipboard can be heard as a man with long black hair wearing a lab coat steps into view. For a moment he seems to look over whatever is written on the clipboard before glancing up and locking eyes with the camera.

" I'm Rae Morningstar, and this is project log- "

Static cuts through the audio, preventing the rest of the sentence from being heard.

He once more steps out of center frame, instead moving to the side of the large lab station directly in view of the camera. Set up on the station is various pieces of equipment, some seemingly in use while others either being prepped for use or having recently been used. Settled in the center of it all are several specimen containers, each holding what appears to be different types of plant matter. Only two of the containers are unlabeled.

" Thus far in my experiments, none of the alien flora samples have proven to be harmful. In fact, a few of them are rather similar to the plant life back home in their genetic makeup. "

He paused, attention having shifted over to the pair of unlabeled containers.

" These two, however... Even without having truly begun observation on them, I've already noticed an interesting reaction to certain stimuli within the lab environment. The samples almost seem to... shy away from the bright lights? But as soon as they're relocated to a darker space, they quickly seem to bounce back. "

More tapping against a clipboard can be heard as the scientist stares intensely at the unlabeled specimens. After a moment he can be seen shaking his head and letting out a sigh.

" I don't have much else to report on since the last project log I recorded. I'm just waiting until I've finished up a few final tests with these specimens before I move onto the final two. Hopefully it won't take too long because I have so many questions- "

[ The video feed abruptly cuts to black, and then there's silence. ]

I’m in Love with the Villainess Reaction

Episode 12 / Finale

I feel like they could have skipped the OP and just showed the title like so many other shows.

Guess they don’t plan on leaving us in limbo, they skipped straight to Manaria’s confrontation.

Seriously, Manaria, you’re the one who was trying to drive Rae away and now you’re mad at her because you succeeded. Like I get what you were doing, but maybe opening this test of yours up with a magic duel of all things wasn’t your best approach. You beat her so badly and completely you crushed her spirit.

Her methods aside, at least we’re getting to the heart of the issue now. Rae’s love for Claire is not as selfless as she claims, how could it be? She wants Claire to love her back, to be in a relationship with her but she was afraid of being rejected.

In many ways, Manaria and Rae are similar, which is part of why Manaria knows she can’t leave Rae alone, lest she make the same mistake she did.

I hate to say it, but after everything that happened, this had to be the last card Manaria could play. Claire’s safety and wellbeing is still Rae’s priority. The only reason she could even imagine leaving Claire’s side is because she knows Manaria could protect her from any threat, even if that threat is Claire herself. But if Manaria is the one who becomes the threat…

“Again, I wasn’t consulted.” Look, Claire, you were free to step in at any time but you let this play out. You allowed your affection for Manaria to blind you, but everyone else from your minions to the Princes knew what was going on.

Sorry, Claire, you’re too late to stop this and Rae doesn’t have the time to idle about, not with what she’s looking for.

Ah, the tediousness of farming for that ultra rare drop.

Claire kept that necklace Rae gave her the entire time. In fact, she’s been wearing it everyday since. It’s proof that she wants to believe in Rae’s love, if only she wasn’t given so many reasons to doubt.

Woah, woah, woah, that vision of the future! They didn’t just include the two together, and their house, they also showed the twins! Don’t tease me like that, I want to see it all in anime form! If only the odds for a second season weren’t so low, this wouldn’t hurt so much!

Damn, Rae is going all in and all out. That line made more sense in my head.

Yes, Claire, tell us how you really feel! None of this will matter if you’re not even honest with yourself or with Rae.

Predictable. This is yet another contest that is practically rigged in Manaria’s favour. There is no offering known to be heavier than the Flower of Flora, so the best you could hope for is a tie, and even that is a difficult feat, given how rare that flower is and how difficult it is to obtain.

Ugh, more poems. And it’s so obviously fake, too. You’re just reciting someone else’s words that don’t carry the same meaning or feeling as the original.

Wow, Manaria actually looks happy to see Rae, meanwhile Claire is immediately concerned by the state she is in.

Manaria has a flower of legend, and Rae has what looks like a random stick. Not hard to imagine the reaction she’d get.

They have no faith in her. As if Rae hasn’t proven that she tends to know more than she could possibly know.

That 180 is just as jarring in anime form. It’s like this girl just forgot she’s been playing the role of the villainess for the past few weeks.

Look at Claire’s hand, like it’s still searching for Rae’s.

The most shocking part about this is Manaria is actually serious. In fact, at this point in the novel Rae suddenly remembers a little bit of trivia about Manaria from the game. It was possible that Manaria might confess feelings for the protagonist, not that it actually led to anything if she did.

This is even better than the novels and manga, Claire didn’t just yell her true feelings (and Rae’s name, finally), she actually grabbed Rae and put herself between them.

Oh, how we missed this banter. It’ll take a bit longer for Claire to get over that knee-jerk reaction but now we know she doesn’t actually mean it.

That crowd’s getting a full show today. The following year’s festival is going to be a snore fest in comparison.

Someone actually made an accurate prediction that the story of Poesie Amour was foreshadowing Rae and Manaria’s fates. Like the two suitors in the story, Rae would go on to marry Claire, while Manaria would go on to be a great queen. I can’t believe it never occurred to me before, not even on rereads when I knew the outcome.

No, no, Rae has a right to feel the way she does. Manaria spent most of the time being a menace to Rae, stomped all over her feelings and even threatened Claire. Even if it was all ultimately for her benefit, that doesn’t erase all the emotional damage or the scars.

Wow, Rae, you just figured it out. And yeah, there very likely was a better way to go about it, but Manaria has already admitted she’s kind of a shitty person.

After those confessions, everyone’s pretty much accepted that they’ll be getting together.

I’m surprised more people haven’t confronted Rae about the things she seems to know. I suppose everyone else is taking the wait and see approach, but since she’s leaving, Manaria had to ask now.

As has been hinted many times, a revolution is coming, and those don’t tend to end well for the people in power. Even if Claire doesn’t turn full Villainess, she’ll still likely be executed for no other reason than that she is a noble. That is the future Rae has been working to prevent.

Look at their classmates, they clearly have no idea how to react, yet all their friends have accepted that this is just the way they are, even as a couple.

And that’s a wrap. While I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a Season 2, I will recommend that novels and manga. The next few arcs are particularly interesting. Personally, I’m a big fan of Chapter 6: Yu’s Secret (FYI, this episode ended Chapter 4: The Scales of Love). That chapter is packed with all sorts of good and interesting stuff.

Flora got up early most days to get as much work done as possible. This morning however she had some time. Finley invited her to hold a talk at town hall about the progress of her research.

But to her disappointment the findings were very unspectacular. She did find an old map and some broken ceramics. But those were much younger than the stone monuments she was interested in.

When she got home she found Rae digging through her trash.

"You know, when you're hungry you can always ask for food, right Rae? There are a lot of vermin in and around trash cans."

"Oh I know, it's not that we don't have anything to eat Flora. We grow the crops remember?", Rae winked at her.

"I was actually trying to catch an ant I saw crawling in. I think it was a honeyspot ant, Bree is still missing that one in her bug collection."

"Oh okay then..."

Flora really seemed to like her ring, especially the big gem in it.

Pumpkin Jamboree

So, first things first. HUGE thanks to @just-a-pansy for allowing me to use his rival children for this prompt! You should definitely check them all out if you haven't already! The story is below the cut to be sure proper thanks were given. Please enjoy!

It felt surreal to you sometimes. What were the odds of so many of you having children around the same time frame? You couldn’t say you weren’t happy that things worked out this way. All your worries about Ellis having someone to play with were gone. You and Gustafa maintained good relationships, giving your son plenty of friends among the children of others who could have once been romantic rivals. 

You loved the tradition of the Pumpkin Jamboree. You remember crying when your parents told you that you were too old. So, it wasn’t a surprise to Gustafa when you eagerly volunteered to help the children dress up and lead them to the part Rock and Lumina were hosting at the Villa. The day had finally come, and you were focusing on restraining yourself from gathering the kids into a group hug.

Cecilia and Marlin’s daughters dressed as little scarecrows. You had no doubt Marlin sewed the costumes for them. Ava dutifully tried to keep her younger sister Marcie from unraveling her clothes by picking loose threads. Tito dressed like his father. If it wasn’t for him having Flora’s eyes, you would have thought Carter had reverted in age. Your son had stolen one of his father’s large green hats and begged Gustafa to make him a robe. Ellis now stood with his friends, loudly proclaiming he was a wizard and could create spells from music. It was his daddy’s love spell song that entrapped you after all. 

Blushing, you did your best to ignore Gustafa’s laughter as you ushered the children outside. Four kids couldn’t be hard to track and wrangle. They should be more manageable than the farm’s adventurous chickens. You enjoyed their babbling as you followed behind the group. You had the group detour before heading to the Inner Inn and through the village. Since Nina’s passing, you did your best to include Galen. The older man was starting to involve himself in Forget-Me-Not Valley again, and you wanted to be sure he was included in the Pumpkin Jamboree.

In a flutter of activity, more children joined the group. First, Nami’s son Mikhail tumbled down the inn’s stairs. His bright hair almost matched the pumpkin costume he wore. Following Mikhail’s appearance were Cody’s son, August, and Molly and Griffin’s child, Rae. You recognized August as a Renaissance painter, though you couldn’t name the exact one. Rae’s costume stumped you until they explained. They were a warrior princess. It was why they had a frilly top with pants and a sword. Didn’t you know slaying a dragon would be difficult in a dress? 

It wasn’t until you started the path uphill to the villa that you realized something was amiss. There were too many children. There should be seven, but each time you counted, there were eight. You picked out the child you didn’t know quickly. She looked like a girl with black hair, her white dress only shades lighter than her. You fought panic as she ran with the other kids to greet Edie (dressed as royalty) and play. 

“Maybe she’s one of those black-eyed children,” Rock mused when you asked him about the child. “Y’know, I’ve heard they come and bring misfortune wherever they wander. Though with how close the mountains are, maybe she’s a mountain spirit instead? I wonder if she’d be appeased with candy?” 

“Oh! I’ll ask her if she’s a ghost!” Marcie excitedly quipped before running off. 

You hadn’t realized she had come to stand near Rock and you. You could only imagine what Marcie said when she reached the other children gathered around Lumina. You shrank back and sidled away from Rock when Lumina fixed him with a glare. Her disgusted frown told exactly what she thought of him telling such stories around the children.

“Adora is Daryl’s granddaughter,” Lumina’s voice seemed to drip with displeasure as she joined you. “She must have wandered away from the lab when she saw the other kids. Rock, please go let Daryl know Adora is here.” 

Lumina sent her husband off with a wave, refusing to acknowledge his explanations for the time being. She sighed to you about how sometimes it felt like she had two children. Edie was obviously the better-behaved one. You laughed along with her, but your thoughts were elsewhere. Daryl had a granddaughter? The man hardly seemed that old; he must have decent genetics. Who had his wife been? You couldn’t wait to share this gossip with Gustafa.

What are your OCs most petty pet peeves? The one thing that really shouldn't annoy them, but somehow it just drives them up the wall?

Rae: She knows they're just trying to help, but... when she's in a foreign country to learn a language, and the locals hear her struggle with the new language and end up switching to English. It's a nice thought, but she's there to learn and switching to English means she doesn't get experience with the new language

Robin: I don't know how petty this is since it's really a legitimate concern... but people who learn she reads lips and proceed to over-enunciate and speak at glacial speeds, which is just harder to make sense of.

Madison: Cannot stand people taking her food. She does not share food. She will make food for others, she loves to bake and give out treats, but there's no "can I have one of your fries?" or "you can try a bite of mine if I try a bite of yours". She knows it's silly, but she was food-insecure for a lot of years while living out in the woods, so she can't bring herself to surrender any part of a meal.

Ophelia: She gets annoyed with how often the news tries to rebrand her as "the new Doc Ock" - she avoided that mantle out of respect to her father, her hero name is Argonaut and has never been Doc Ock, but it's hard to keep the news from using it to stir up drama.

Jasper: Used to get really annoyed at people's reactions to their natural Cajun accent, even to the point that they dropped the accent most of the time - you're in New Orleans, people, you're going to hear some Cajun folks! And their accent does not make them any less professional than people with a more Northern accent!

Katherine: Generally, a lot of typical artist's pet peeves related to her sketchbook - don't ask her to draw you, don't flip through her sketchbook when she's showing off one drawing, don't look over her shoulder while she's working... art is a very personal, intimate thing, and a lot of people don't understand that.

Quinn: People correcting her when she mixes her metaphors - it's a running joke with Billy, but irritating when it comes from anyone else. That, or people going out of their way to "accommodate her" in a way that just becomes pushy, and less helpful than just leaving her alone.

Kestrel: It doesn't happen often, but people making up Latin names for flora and fauna just to sound intelligent. Mixing up a few similar-looking species (eg. Falco sparverius vs. Falco femoralis) is an honest mistake, but they've run into people who will straight-up make up lies on the spot just to impress their friends, and it really grates on them.

Eris: It's hard to seriously annoy them, since they really thrive on conflict, but I think they get really tired of people being ignorant about regionalities and the history of land - the Middle East is not just one big patch of desert, neither is Africa, they have distinct regional climates and cultures and it's rude to assume they're all the same. Eris in particular has been mistaken for just about every ethnicity under the sun, with how ambiguous and "cradle of civilization" they (as an immortal) look, so they've experienced this from a lot of different angles.

Nikoletta: Any sort of hovering, or people who invade her personal space. Even if they don't actually touch her, and even if she doesn't have to be cautious about her shadow-touch, it makes her anxious and uncomfortable - and especially if they're standing behind her and she can't quite see them. She even asks Abner to stand behind her when they're out somewhere (like waiting in line at a coffee shop), because she gets so uncomfortable with strangers being right behind her.

(I know most of these are like... actually legitimate things to be annoyed about, but it's hard to think of tiny petty things to have as pet peeves and have it still be interesting)

he's got a little camp on the halfway point, doing his research

when you find him he doesn't seem to realise how long he's been down there

figuring that his parents probably want to be updated on his findings he decides to go see the light of day again

needless to say the dig site and archaeology are his life

has an intense interest for beryl

his family has a strong bond because of their shared interests, his parents have built a house near the dig site

he follows a strict routine and is found at the same places at the same time every day starting with a long walk at 6 am to clear his head

it takes a while for him to comprehend that you're romantically interested in him and his way of responding to that is to show you his collection of rocks

he confesses he had a hard time growing up fitting in with the other children of the valley and especially budding heads with Edie

he feels like he can fully be himself around you

have a natural connection with each other and enjoy hearing the other one talk for hours about one specific detail of their work

she even gets Tito to swim with her and though he hates it he loves seeing her so happy

they mumble about having to share their newest discoveries with the other
