[Album + Video] Neu bei [PIAS]: willkommen Floodlights!

Die in Naarm/Melbourne ansässige Rockband Floodlights kündigt heute ihr drittes Album "Underneath" an, das am 21. März 2025 über [PIAS] Recordings veröffentlicht wird.

Underneath entstand inmitten ausgedehnter Tourneen durch Großbritannien und Europa, Australien und den USA, und wurde von einer surrealen Phase im Leben der Bandmitglieder geprägt - voller Premieren, der Erkundung neuer Orte und den bisher größten Gigs und Festivals. Trotz der Vergänglichkeit ihres neuen Lebens auf der Straße erwies sich der Schreibprozess als eine äußerst intime Zeit, die von ruhigen, gemeinsamen Momenten der Kontemplation geprägt war. Die Songs, die dabei entstanden sind, repräsentieren einen Prozess der Abrechnung, der Katharsis und des Wachstums innerhalb der Gruppe. Sie verschmelzen die prägnanten gesellschaftlichen Reflexionen, für die sie bekannt sind, mit persönlicheren Meditationen über Trauer, Erinnerungen und Orte und geben schließlich den unzähligen Emotionen und Erfahrungen, die unter der Oberfläche schlummern, Gestalt. Mit ihren einhüllenden Alt-Rock-Klanglandschaften malen Floodlights auf Underneath eine Metamorphose in Bewegung, während sie im Kern erforschen, was es bedeutet, ein Mensch zu sein.

Erstmals vorgestellt mit dem mitreißenden, definitiven „Can You Feel It" ‚ Anfang des Jahres, das auch das Signing der Band bei [PIAS] Recordings ankündigte, gibt es heute mit dem von Dan Luscombe produzierten Track „Cloud Away“ einen weiteren Einblick in das Album.

Leadsänger/Gitarrist Louis Parsons sagt über den Song: „Wie eine Wolke kommen und gehen Gefühle, das Leben verändert sich und die Menschen auch. „Cloud Away“ ist ein Song über Hoffnung und darüber, dass wir selbst in den schwierigsten Zeiten einen Weg finden können, die kurvenreiche Straße zu meistern. Er handelt von den einfachen Schönheiten des Lebens und davon, wie wir Projektionen der Zukunft nutzen, um uns von der Gegenwart zu erheben."

Unter der Regie von Ava Clifforth (@avavavavava) und Henry Gosper (@henrygotspleez) von Good Grief Productions ist das dazugehörige Musikvideo von Filmen des Magischen Realismus wie Big Fish und Pans Labyrinth inspiriert. In einer gelungenen Mischung aus traditioneller Handwerkskunst und neuer Technologie wurden die surrealen und doch emotionalen Bilder mit kamerainternen Effekten, generativen KI-Tools und über 600 handgefertigten Frames sowie Animationen des New Yorker 2D-Künstlers Ewan Creed erstellt.
