What Happens During A Typical Reiki Session?

Hello Friends,

​I hope you are all well. Today I thought we would talk about what you could expect at a typical Reiki session at Serenity, but to be honest, there is no such thing as a typical or standard Reiki treatment. Each session is as different as the person involved. We combine Reiki with nutritional advice, coaching, chakra balancing, Native American wisdom, and a lot of listening. It truly is a personal experience tailored to your own needs.

I was speaking with a client regarding her life during a recent session. She was only 33 and yet was having a myriad of health problems. We explored her diet (which she was in the process of taking control of) and her life. She devoted her life to being a "superwoman," you know the drill. She spent her days being a perfect mother to a young child, the ideal wife, and a super employee. She also strived to be a fantastic, caring friend to her group, was involved with her child's school, and went to university to up her degree in her spare time. She was emotionally and physically burnt out, and her body was trying to tell her to slow down.

This dynamic lady suffered daily from acid reflux, IBS, migraines, and an irregular heartbeat. She also had gallstones, kidney stones, loss of sexual drive, allergies, anxiety, depression, and arthritis. She was not sleeping well (or enough) and generally felt like crap all the time. When I asked her how long this was going on, she replied about five years! 

 After one hour on the Reiki table, she looked like a new person! She looked a good ten years younger, and even her voice changed! Will the Reiki session "cure" her? No, it will not. But hopefully, the session will allow her to sleep better, give the body extra energy to repair past damage, and help her think about what we discussed. We spoke about self-love, taking time out for personal care/healing, and the superwoman myth. I also gave her suggestions on how she could relax and enjoy life a bit more, plus some insights to think about before the next session. I worked on her chakras (the body's energy centers) and discussed symptoms of these energy centers being in a constant state of unease or disharmony.

So in many ways, this was a typical session. This superwoman was referred by a close friend, whom I treat regularly. She came in a skeptic and walked (or floated) out happier than she expected. We never really know what the Reiki will do, but we do trust it to get to the heart of the matter.

Each Reiki session is truly a personal experience. Reiki helps on so many levels and adjusts to each person's needs. With Reiki, you feel better, sleep better, and also begin to understand that things can change. You can feel better again. You do not have to suffer in pain, or mental fog, or "learn to live with" these problems.

So, in early January, I developed acute necrotizing pancreatitis, probably from gallstones. (Btw, 0/10, do NOT recommend.) I was hospitalized for about a week and a half as they stabilized the situation and tried to formulate a plan of treatment. The latter was made more complicated by the discovery that I apparently lack any sense of interoception (for ex, I’m never hungry until I’m <starving>; I don’t “get hungry”). So I wasn’t in as much ongoing pain as the state of my pancreas would have suggested. Anyway, I was out of the hospital for about a week when I drove myself back to the ER (my mom having left for CA that morning; sometimes a lack of interoception combined with ADD is useful) with what turned out to be a partially occluding blood clot in my main portal vein. Cue another week in the hospital. Finally, I was recovered enough for them to put a stent between the sac of gunk sitting on my pancreas (officially called a pseudo cyst) and my stomach so the gunk could drain. They did this by endoscopy, which is a pretty new procedure. 1/10 end up with a misplaced stent floating in the pseudo cyst in addition to the correctly placed one. Guess who got to be in the lucky 10%? Right. Four more days in the hospital to ensure it didn’t cause complications. In early March, I had another endoscopy to remove the floater and change out the properly placed stent for a plastic one. Actually outpatient! Woohoo! I got my gallbladder removal surgery scheduled for late May (outpatient laparoscopy if all goes to plan 🤞🏻), and my blood thinner is at the right level. So, what happened this morning? That’s right, I expelled my stent via my rear end. I have an X-ray scheduled for Wednesday and then they’re going to figure out if it can wait until my next scheduled endoscopy on the 23rd. (I suspect it would be tomorrow, but we’re about to get a nasty nor’easter, so best not.) Anyway, the moral of the story is AVOID ACUTE NECROTIZING PANCREATITIS LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Jerin Wedding Headcanons

. They end up getting married their late 20s, so quite a long time after the actual show

. They get married in the church in Derry where we see the characters regularly go to

. Orla and Clare are Erin's bridesmaids, Michelle is James's best man

. Flower girl duties are given to Erin's now 10-13 year old sister Anna, who's a baby in the show

. Gerry literally turns into Father-of-the-bride-zilla. Everything must be planned to perfection, it's like his episode at the wake but spread out over 6 months of organising, debates about the right kind of flowers and wedding cake panics (Mary is this 👌close to killing him). It's all worth it though when the wedding finally comes together and he is the Happiest DadTM

. Clare brings her gf to the wedding, they protest the DUP together and they're a couple of adorable gay badasses🥰🌈

. They try to get it officiated by the regular priest but because it's Derry Girls something must go wrong and they end up with Father Peter, whose hair makes a fabulous comeback after 10+ years. He pretty much talks shite through the entire thing but finishes the job.

. Mary gets a new hat at last, it's fab, James compliments her on it again, she loves her new son-in-law🥰

. Everyone gets emotional during the ceremony, particularly Aunt Sarah and Mary, who alternate between cooing to each other and crying into hankies

. Granda Joe is in a wheelchair but still somehow manages to throw down the best moves on the dancefloor w Uncle Colm

. Uncle Colm gets spectacularly drunk and spends the night trying to corner people into listening to his ramblings. He manages to hijack the actual speeches and while his toast doesn't have anything to do with the bride and groom, it is 20 minutes long and the highlights involve toothpaste brands, the time he lost his favourite tie and gallstones. Finally Jerry ends up wrangling the microphone off of him in a well-timed sneak attack - no one is ruining his daughter's day😅

. Cousin Eamon originally wasn't planning on attending the wedding due to his grudge regarding Erin and co. flooding his bathroom at his mother's wake, but ends up coming mainly out of petty nosiness. He spends the entire day avoiding Mary for fear of being the next family member to be cursed.

. However, when Rock The Boat comes on he changes his tune and fucking plows his way through the party to get a spot, he's not missing his chance this time

. Sister Michael is there, she floats around just basically being salty and sassy but secretly she is so proud of her 5 dumbass kids that grew into 5 semi-functioning adults

Venom Fic preview & Beta Request

So, I’ve had this Venom-fic sitting here basically finished since January, but my regular beta’s been pretty snowed under of late (and still has that last UNCLE thing to get through before she even sees this one), so I’m looking for other volunteers.

For context: fic is basically an extended missing-scene from the film between Anne and Venom (mostly while chronically stuck in traffic on route to the Life Foundation to save Eddie’s arse). It’s about 5K long, PG-R rated -- and, for better or worse, rather more Eddie/Venom-ish than you might expect given that Eddie doesn’t really appear. Drop me a line if you’re interested.

Eddie meets Venom (properly – face to face, or near enough) while soaking wet, slumped on a dock on the wrong side of the bay after the ride-of-his-life came to a bone-crunching conclusion.

Anne meets Venom later the same night in a disabled toilet cubicle, having staggered in and locked the door after a truly disorienting encounter with a Chihuahua in the hospital corridor.

Eddie’s parasite has a face like a living nightmare on a neck of liquid flesh. It speaks in a voice like an oil fire, dragging out its vowels like it wants to hear them suffer before letting them go.

Hello, Anne.  

Anne is not in the habit of whimpering. She damn well whimpers now. “Oh… god…”

Venom grins at her. It is very, very well equipped for grinning. You care for Eddie Brock, it oozes, as if pronouncing her greatest weakness.

“You were killing him!” Anne protests, if admittedly a bit weakly.

This seems to throw the apparition off its stride. We were not killing him! Why would we kill our own host? He was fine!

“You call that fine? You atrophied his heart!”

So we nibbled on a few organs, grumbles a living oil fire which has, incredibly, found itself on the defensive. We were going to rebuild them all during his next sleep cycle! How were we supposed to know which ones were important?

Anne can hardly believe what she’s hearing. “Uh, you could have asked?”

Venom makes a noise of frustration that ripples backwards down its neck with some force. This is irrelevant! If you really cared for Eddie, you should be more concerned with the armed men who dragged him out of here, a prisoner!

Anne is presented with a sudden, startling vision of Eddie being tasered into unconsciousness and carried into an elevator – the colours washed out into muted yellows and blues, the angle low and broken, as if being viewed by someone with a very big nose. In a flash of understanding, Anne realises she’s being shown a dog’s-eye-view of Eddie’s abduction. The disquieting thought occurs that this creature may not be lying.

Minions of the Life Foundation, pronounces Venom. They have pursued us across your city. I could have protected him! But no, you had to separate us. To leave him vulnerable.

Parts of Anne seriously consider doing some more whimpering, but it would be a pretty poor lawyer who sat there and took an accusation like that. “You were killing Dan! Were you going to put his throat back when you were done crushing it too?”

I will do much worse to the next being to come between me and Eddie! A mess of angry vibration, Venom draws itself up until its floating head towers above her. His life is in your hands now, Anne. I have no time to waste on uncooperative hosts. With a gravity that suggests Venom has at last reached what it’s been building to from the beginning, it asks, Will you help us?

With a feeling that sinks like a gallstone, Anne realises there is only one possible answer. And so begins what is to be the most surreal episode in what is, by far, the most surreal episode in Anne’s life to date.
