› Vouloir (vooh-lwahr) the Wishing Star
› cis-female ; she/her/wish/wishself
› greysexual panromantic
› ENFP, 2w3
› serves the clan as the wish keeper, keeping tabs on wants and desires within the clan
› Stardust by Peder B. Helland
───────────────────────────────
› They say that one's wishes have power.. And that they do! Vouloir was the sixth kin to join the ranks of the Umbradem. Though her story is far from run of the mill. She'd come careening out of the sky on a dark, moonless night and crashed right in the middle of the small, burgeoning camp of the Umbradem. She'd quite realistically been met with obvious wariness from this group of rag-tag draconids, especially after she explained.. or tried to explain her origin.
› "I am a gift from the Eleven themselves! A shooting star, the wishing kind, brought life and sent to you from on high! I'm here to grant your wishes!"
› A wishing star? Given life and form? Ridiculous! If any god were to favor this lowly bunch it would be the Shadowbinder and such a.. pristine white dragon could never be a blessing from the shadowy mistress. And yet.. This little spiral draconid seems to know the wish, hope, and desire of every dragon in the clan. Whether she has spoken the truth and she is a wishing star given life or she's simply in tune to all the latest gossip no one is quite sure.. But for now, she keeps a tidy list of every single item that each draconid within the clan yearns for. Maybe, just maybe, she truly is a wishing star...

Matriarch of the Aurora Vela Clan
This wonderful girl, my custom progen that I've had for almost 10 years, finally has lore!
I'm not much of a writer anymore and the lore itself is nothing groundbreaking, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and just kinda wanted to share :) I linked her profile above but also put it under the cut in case you don't feel like clicking lol
History
Born into the Arcane, she began life as a Guardian, though a guardian of what she did not immediately know. She felt a tug, a pull, to something, and although she did not yet know what this something was, she could feel it - it was not something she could hold or touch, and somehow it was ever-changing, growing and shifting, flowing and moving. When she closed her eyes, she could see a cacophony of colors and multiple shapes, all dancing around one another and connected by strands of beaded light. Try as they might, her fellow arcanists could not help her discern meaning from these feelings and visions. Kurra spent time in all manner of fields of study, shepherded along by her brethren within the Starfall Isles who thought that perhaps she just had not found the right scholarly pursuit.
Early on in her years of study in the various areas of knowledge in the Arcanist’s domain, she encountered a fellow Primordial - that is, a dragon hatched by an egg coalesced by an elemental magic itself rather than a clutch laid by parent dragons. He was a tundra, with brown and beige fur, and although by nature he was rather forgetful, he was also delightfully curious about the world around him. Upon their first meeting, he mentioned she smelled of friendship - she did not know what that meant, she was endeared by this small, fluffy dragon and his cheerful demeanor.
They began traveling together, finding delight and companionship through their discoveries and shared knowledge. Kurra and Somer, as he was known at the time, cared deeply for one another, and indeed, they had one single clutch together. Kurra knew she had found her one companion, the being she would spend eternity with - but her Search still was not fulfilled. Somer, who wanted nothing but Kurra’s happiness and was almost more passionate about finding Kurra’s Charge than she was, was genuinely dedicated to helping her reach the end of her Search.
After many evenings of late night discussions curled up together under the twinkling flowers in the groves of the Starwood Strand, the two came to a heavy conclusion. They would become Exalted, together, to serve the Arcanist directly, and hopefully find their purpose in the stars they had studied for much of their lives.
Kurra remembers little from her time as an Exalted. But she does remember that it had long been known as an irreversible ascension - no dragon that had become Exalted had ever returned. Yet, one day, she found herself back among the dragons of Sornieth, with Somer by her side. Only, he wasn’t quite Somer, and she was not quite Kurra. The physical body of the large, ocean-colored Guardian frame she had was now only found in her memory, and had instead given way to the lithe form of the dragon species she knew as Skydancers - but even then, it was…different. Her torso and limbs were primarily made of some kind of celestial material, and not-quite-corporeal magic swirled down her neck and underbelly, and flowed out in feathers to create the shape of her tail and wings. Different that what was in her memory, yes, but yet it felt like home, like this was the form that was truest for her being.
Somer had changed as well - his body also of a Skydancer, but segmented like the bees that buzzed around them in the summer heat of the days before being Exalted, as well as adorned with beautiful silver and pink filigree.
They knew not why they had been returned and, at first, dared not mention to other dragons that they had been Exalted, as they did not know the reason why they had been brought back. Kurra, however, immediately found that familiar pit in her stomach - the lack of a Charge; her Search was somehow still not complete. After all her time serving the Arcanist, and even now no longer being a Guardian, how could she still have failed?
Distraught and feeling lost, Kurra pushed through - she and Somer (though he now called himself Zinneiros) continued their pursuit of knowledge. They settled along the southern cost of the Starwood Strand, away from the hustle and bustle of city scholars in the Astrolodome or even the Tourmaline Archives - somewhere quiet and nearly deserted for them to study and for Kurra to find peace with herself as she faced the possibility that she may never find her Charge.
Over the years, other dragons began to make their homes nearby. More often than not, they were also struggling with themselves, trying to find where they may call home and what may bring them fulfillment. Kurra was never a particularly social dragon, finding it hard to make connections when a large part of her felt empty. But both she and Zinneiros began to feel…pulled towards some of the dragons. And as they spent more and more time with these dragons, and as more and more dragons began to settle and join their small community, Kurra felt a warmth in the swirling magics that made up her body that she had not felt before.
Time passed, and without meaning to, they had become a clan, the Aurora Vela. And while it began in the Starfall Isles, the Clan has undergone a few nomadic journeys, settling for a time in the Windswept Plateau but ultimately finding its place within the Sunbeam Ruins. The clan had such variety in its members, everyone was different but yet felt part of the same whole, at least to Kurra. It was not a sudden realization, but a rather slow and steady piecing together - this was it. This was the cacophony of colors and dancing shapes intertwined by threads of light that she had seen and felt since she was a hatchling. Her clan was her Charge, and although she knew may never fully “complete” her Search as the clan grew and changed, she knew she was finally whole.
Personality & Bio
Although she no longer has her Guardian form, the imposing and intimidating presence remains - at least, upon first glance. Her stoicism may initially feel hardened and even mildly fierce, but it melts away to a gentle yet firm demeanor for her clanmates. Newcomers are met with a friendly disposition, as she sees everyone as a potential part of the Clan and thus her potential Charge, but with a side of slight wariness - after all, she still has to protect the current members of the Aurora Vela.
During the morning and daylight hours, Kurra can often be found in the clan’s own observatory, not so much seeking more and more knowledge as she once did, but rather helping her clan members seek their own knowledge and pursue their own definitions of happiness and fulfillment. In the evening, however, she spends her time with Zinneiros, reveling in each other's company in whichever way they see fit for that particular day.

I love Flight Rising clans so much. I love clans that are towns, cities, entire kingdoms. I love clans that are twenty-strong groups of bandits. I love clans that are sailors on the open ocean. I love clans that are really just families all living in a commune. I love clans that are workplaces. I love clans that stick together come hell or high water. I love clans that would sell eachother out for a single corn chip. I like clans that are led by progenitors. I love clans that have elaborate systems of government to lead them. I love clans that are just a bunch of dragons living together in a cave. I love clans that have buildings and houses and shops. I love clans that live in castles, cities, and everything in-between
#flight rising#the fun part is seeing what people think when they hear “dragon clan”#is it a system of government?#a territory?#a group of individuals?#a family?#theres no rule about what a clan must be#and i love that so much#fr lore

Worldbuilding Wednesday Prompt 3:
Talk about a dragon in your clan who isn't a dragon. What kind of creature are they? What kinds of relationships do they have with the actual dragons in your clan?
#this can be a lot of things#but just as an example i know some people have dragon mimics#or a dragon that is a stand-in for something else like a monster/ghost/alien/beastclan/etc#basically just any on-site dragon that isn't a dragon in their lore#flight rising#worldbuilding wednesday

super quick musings on Fathoms. i like a lot about the pose + design, but i feel like they kinda suffer from Undel Sameface when everything about their lore is pointing towards "friendly gentle ocean giants". wanted to roughly sketch Merrigan for a side-by-side comparison, and then some rough doodles of how i might push the design in a chunkier, more cetacean-inspired direction - 3 is swapping the features but keeping the overall proportions/layout mostly the same, and 4 is pushing the proportions even further
#flight rising#obligatory not intended to be negative disclaimer - just sharing thoughts & observations#like it really /feels/ like they wanted to have a friendlier-looking design and then just didn't#although in fairness the breed template has almost certainly been in the works looooong before the event was planned/lore was finalised#like i'm very aware of how long a new modern takes#but yeah sketching this all out side-by-side made me realise that the faces are. really just kinda boring#like the jawline especially. they have Undel Jaw. you all know what i mean when i say that right#(affectionately. etc etc anyway tag ramble over i hope everyone has fun with the new dragons)#REPOST SORRYYY i forgot to tag it the first time lol

Tips for introducing more conflict into your Flight Rising lore (that aren't just "get a generic villain character")
Your dragons should be wrong sometimes. It doesn't have to be all the time, but they should misunderstand things, lie (intentionally or unintentionally), lash out when they're stressed, or just flatout dislike someone for no reason. Everybody will make bad decisions, and it's an easy way to introduce conflict without needing a specific antagonist character.
The world should be dangerous in some way. Think about your clan, and think about where your dragons would reasonably encounter some kind of danger. Is there a lot of crime in your clan? Is there a portion of your clan's territory that has a lot of hostile fauna? Is your clan currently clashing with another clan? Who knows, maybe the biggest danger is getting humiliated at the PTA bake sale, but try to think deeply on this. Once you know what places are dangerous, you can start thinking of how your clan deals with that danger.
A 100% approval rating government doesn't exist. The larger your clan, the more likely that there's dragons who disagree in some way, shape, or form with how the clan's being run. Maybe you've got an Anarcho-Capitalist Lightning clan with a small sect of Eco-Socialists that dislike the current rulers. Maybe you've got a tight-knit family unit but there's a dragon who doesn't agree with how chores are being divvied up. Maybe you've got a monarchy but, oops, you've got one dragon who REALLY disagrees with the concept of a monarchy!
Quick conflict is easy, prolonged plot is interesting. A conflict that can be resolved in 2 hours has a lot less narrative weight (typically) compared to a plot that takes 2 weeks to resolve. Err on the side of letting things fester and intensify if you want the juiciest conflict.
Your dragons should have wants just like anyone else, and those wants should conflict. A highly ambitious dragon joining a clan with well-established authorities is going to feel stifled by their inability to rise through the ranks. What happens when multiple dragons are courting the same dragon? What happens when multiple dragons want the same den location? Two dragons with deeply opposed desires can be the cornerstone of a lot of great lore.
Sometimes bad things happen for no reason. Natural disasters, plagues, sudden global conflicts (ex: Luminax), all of these things can be introduced quickly to churn up some conflict. Be careful to rely too heavily on this though, as it can erode away at your dragons narrative agency and make things feel grimdark (unless that's what you're going for)
Sometimes dragons are just jerks. People in real life are occasionally just mean, and there's no reason to say that your dragons can't just be a bit mean too. Schoolyard bullies, prissy Karens, workplace lunch-thieves, people who cut in line, etc. Don't be afraid to make some of your dragons just a bit mean, or annoying, or frustrating! In fact, I'd argue most dragons should have at least one trait that could potentially drive another dragon up the wall.
#flight rising#fr lore#cftd rambles#this isnt a fully exhaustive list but it does cover a lot of avenues beyond#Add A Murderer#which is a valid thing to do but consider: adding a murderer AND exploding your dragons houses
