It’s Monday morning, and there are some #dentalemergency patients in need of care. ⁣ ⁣ If you didn’t know, I practice in northern New Jersey, minutes from NYC where, although the numbers are still high, we have seen a significantly positive trend over the past several weeks indicating that the measures @govmurphy and @nygovcuomo have put into place have by and large been effective. ⁣ ⁣ #dentists are frustrated and #dental patients are as well, but we must continue to be mindful of our responsibilities as global citizens as well as our responsibility to our team members and patients to keep everyone healthy to the best of our abilities. ⁣ ⁣ Data shows that w proper screening, PPE, and infection control protocols, the quantifiable risk associated w dental procedures can be mitigated, and as dental professionals, we must use our best judgement, always being driven by proper ethical principles, when triaging our patients for care. ⁣ ⁣ This idea of “true emergencies” vs “emergencies” that are somehow less truthful is BS. If doing nothing or trying to palliate a patient does more harm than intervening, then as a clinician, a doctor, a healer, you have the responsibility to act. Act safely. Act responsibly. Act swiftly and definitively. Act!⁣ ⁣ That’s me on a soapbox this morning. Still seeing emergencies only...for now...there are a lot of them these days and THESE numbers are growing.
