good evening ive seen u kamen rider posting for like ages and recently some former coworkers actually got me into the original show (we're gonna watch geats soon) and saw the shin movie today and i just wanted to say for the first like week of watching it i kept being like 'this is so great. im gonna understand flaims posts now'

…I joke. Mostly. But! This was such a fun treat to get right after leaving the theatre myself! Yeah Toku just took over my brain like nothing else ever has. Now you understand why! And feel free to hit me up for recs I have Thoughts.

questions 1, 2, 5, and 8

Wow didn’t think i’d get this far. *clears throat*

1: how did i get into Toku. Well, it was a mixture of watching “history of power rangers” and searching tv tropes. My first attempts at watching stuff were Gaim and Liveman.

But for how Properly: i’d tried for years to watch a show in full and really sink my teeth in and pretty much failed to finish anything but Liveman which even then took years, or in Rider’s case failed utterly to finish, and then my ex ghosted me as a friend, and i was stuck at work feeling bored, and lonely one day waiting for my ride, i was thinking about how i enjoyed reading about people’s reactions to ex aid. -along with it being in my thoughts for various reasons <like it’s insert songs > as it had recently ended, and i’d enjoyed ex aid 1-8. It had also seemed like a good way to try and make friends. So I Went and Binged Ex-Aid 8-45 <and Dr Pacman > over the course of that labour day weekend. Worth it.

And then a year later while streaming and being out of stuff in english To Stream i pulled another friend in with OOO and we binged through it, and Fourze. Finished Gaim too that way.

2: what was the first show i watched:

Well since i partially answered above: Gaim and Liveman were my first attempts at their respective franchises, Liveman took me about 3? Years on my own, plus i’d both skipped a few eps and had to speed up the last few eps due to having work the next day (it is still one of my fav sentai and i have watched it multiple times since, please watch it). Gaim i don’t know how many eps i got through but put off due to wanting to use it for exercise. Yeah that didn’t work.

Now for Ultra: Ultraman Orb. Fun fact i hadn’t realized it was only 25 episodes because usually the toku i’d encountered or looked into -and Doctor who, were all Much longer. until literally ep 18. So: “man how are they going to top this we’re only half way”. *checks* “huh where’s the rest” “oh shit”

i like Orb. It’s a fun little show.

Other Toku:

Garo: season 1. Tried to do a halloween watch and didn’t finish. Tried again later and couldn’t get into it-and then when in a situ where i could’ve. Had to miss most of the season.

I have however finished the first season of the Ryuga timeline. Started slow but really did pick up, thanks @flaim-ita looking forward to more goldstorm.

Other toku in geneal: Kaiketsu Zubat.

I’d seen clips and photosets because of how insane Zubat was and had been curious, and then Toei’s youtube put the first two episodes up. And: the first episode of Kaiketsu Zubat is Insane. You do not understand if you have not seen it.

5: favorite main hero:

For Rider: Tendou. Ultra: Riku. Other: Ken Hayakawa, and Taisei High School Heroes. <and i haven’t finished it but Mako Dogengers high school

Sentai: the Liveman Trio but for Red’s in general. -yeah probably Yusuke from Liveman if i’m being honest when i think about it, but Momoi Taro has been up there. i just am waiting to see if it’s recency bias talking or not.

8: favourite series:

Kabuto for Rider. Donbrothers right now if it sticks the landing for Sentai, Gokaiger or Jetman if not.

Geed for Ultra. and for Other Toku: Kaiketsu Zubat.

Currently Reading: circling back to you by julie tieu, since my friend wanted to go see her at a library event, so we spontaneously drove an hour and a half away to see her (masked event don't worry). it's fairly cute but i think i prefer light from uncommon stars.

Last Songs: a bunch of sentai ops. my taste is either trash or magnificent.

Last Series:

-teppachi: jesus. stop. the military propaganda is TERRIFYING. i'm watching it to report to other people at this point.

-shin shinchou kouki: this one is hilarious and has a bunch of people i know and is exactly my type of stupid high school with stupid rules drama.

-senpai this can't be love: it's cute. it won't stick in my head i don't think tho other than "it was tokus".

-avataro sentai donbrothers: because my toku mutuals got me into it. good lord inoue what are you doing to us.

-koisenu futari: this one hits hard so it's slow going. but it's good.

Last Movie: ride or die. it was not good. wlw rep continues to be poor sadz.

Currently Working on: good question. i have several things to start but who knows when that will happen. also i need a special (that i already know will be not good) to come out so i can properly write one of my wips. gah.

it’s February 2nd, 2021 in my timezone and today is the first year friendversary since @flaim-ita and I met here on tumblr. I remember it like if it was yesterday. They followed me one night while I was watching shinkenger and they dmed me after that. We talked about our favorite power rangers seasons and they talked about a little bit of ryusoulger and got me into ryusoulger (I only watched ep one and half of ep 2 hdjdjdjjqjd) I was in tumblr for two months and I haven’t made any friends on here besides my friend Orion from Twitter. I remember after I finished watching decade they sent me masahiro pics in dms and I started simping for masahiro jdjdkdkdkd. But things aside from that, flaim got me into kamen rider. I’ve been a fan of toku for years but just super sentai and pr. And it made my 2020 way so much better. Flaim was one of the first friends I made on here and in the toku fandom in general.

I can’t describe how much their friendship means to me. They’re a great writer (which y’all should read their fics, they’re fucking amazing), they’re sweet, they’re kind, they’re so passionate for decade than any other rider fan depending on the season. They really one of the best people I’ve met on the internet. They’ve helped me when I was at my lowest. Even if I want to vent about my problems or when I need to be honest with them. They try to be there for me when I need it. I’m so happy and glad met them. They’re one of the best best friends I’ve ever met on this app. Flaim I love you so much, thank you for the memories we made the past year. Even though we don’t talk or vc as much like before, I’m still your best friend no matter what. You’re the sawa and tsubasa to my misora and hibiki. I love you so much! 💖💜

Just realized a horrifying accidental subtext in Heisei vs Showa upon finally watching it

Tsukasa, in KRT:

is adventuring as normal, but alone

has “journeyed through the worlds and met many friends… and some of them have already died”

is for some reason looking for a home again

And only becomes more of an asshole in later installments.

Conclusion: Natsumi and Yuusuke are dead
