Thank you anon! When I set out to make this blog I knew it was going to be a period piece. I’m a 2003 baby so I remember my friends calling things gay and speculating on what it means only to look it up in the kid friendly dictionary and see that it’s a synonym for happy. Using it as both a derogatory term and jokingly saying I’m gay (as in happy). Without ever knowing what the word actually meant, we fundamentally understood that whatever it was, it was taboo. I figured out my own queerness in like 2013 by stumbling on old outdated fkh8 ads which are cringe by today’s standards.

The blog went on hiatus for three years while I struggled to learn to live on my own in college, so, yeah, the meteor crew is definitely picking up some of that aswell. As cringe and silly as @ask-the-meteor-crew is, I like to think there’s something real about it, that explores things that Hussie didn’t have the time or desire to dwell on, because there’s a lot. I understand the appeal of fan blogs that somewhat sanitize the source material making it palatable and easy to consume, but I just felt like in doing so many stripped the characters of the things that made them compelling. Which I know is a bold statement coming from someone who’s writing Karkat the way that I have been, but Y’know, he’s still Karkat, he’s still throws tantrums and takes no shit, he’s just spending a lot of time around Dave, someone he’s comfortable showing vulnerability to so he admittedly seems like a bit of a crybaby. His venom is more apparent around the others and I need to get in the habit of having him share more panels with them, I know. I’m working on it.

Bc like if so it's made a tremendous circle all the way from (1) being created unironically to convey support, (2) being mercilessly mocked, (3) coming into ironic use when the person/company in question has nothing to do with gay/trans ppl, (4) coming into ironic use with a note of seriousness when the person/company in question does have something to do with gay/trans ppl, and (5) being treated unironically as conveying support

True. I have YET to see more body positivity campaigns geared towards men. They're mostly towards women.

I can get behind the gifs' message, but this is only half of the people who go through body image issues. People need to be reflected in body positivity psas equally, not JUST be about women. We can do better.

I should add that FKH8 did jack shit for causes and just made merch and did vids like these. They even had little kids cuss while talking about the wage gap. It's a bullshit organization and they're old hat anyeay. Support NOH8 instead.
