Inktober day 4: wound, featuring Ir Anuk, Ir Halak, and some uninvited guests
“Come forth, sister wizards,” called Ir Halak. “We need you.” Ir Anûk pulled a sword star out of the sky. Together the wizards charged it with killing power and made an annihilator totem, which they used to smash the Vex.”

Crota's End map from Destiny
Tumblr media
Here's my 3D illustration of the Abyss, sans-darkness-and-fog, that I posted for the Destiny community a few years back. There are some great maps out there already but I figured creating an isomeric one might give a better sense of the vertical space
It was shared to help out new players with their first raid, or experienced players looking to figure out new strategies or paths.
It's recreated by eye as I ran around, so there might be mistakes or missing bits and bobs that someone might spot, but it should be pretty accurate. Feel free to reply if you spot anything wrong and I can fix it.
Here's some work-in-progress shots as it came together and a 3D model you can look around in your browser:

“Abomination”, Ch. 13
Sienna and Poppy quickly found an isolated spot in the Tower Annex. "First things first, don't you ever drop a bomb like that in public again," Sienna scolded. "Second of all, what? You mean to tell me you're related to a goddess?," she continued, throwing her hands in the air. "Did it not occur to you to maybe, I don't know, mention that?!"
Poppy clapped a hand over her friend's mouth and glared. "I am not moving this hand until you calm down." After a few moments of silence, she slowly lowered it. Sienna said nothing, though her frustration was still palpable. "Okay then," Poppy said. "Narvuk, you feel like explaining?"
The Knight sighed and sat heavily. "I was bborn to the Wizard who became Omnigul, long beffore she was Crota's Will. I wwas an Acolyte when she slaughtered her way to that position. My ssiblings and I joined his spawn, but I have heard nothing of them since. Omnigul became my prince's mate and consort. Savathun is Crota's aunt, thus my relation. She is family, though not by brood." Poppy gaped at him for a second, and Sienna had a look on her face like someone had asked her what a sterile neutrino was. The girls composed themselves and launched into questioning him.
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?"
"Why didn't you tell Eris or Zavala?"
"What do you mean, 'slaughtered her way'?"
Then Sienna asked the inevitable. "If you were part of Crota's brood, were you there when he took the Moon?" Narvuk hesitated, eyes darting from the exit to Sienna and back. "Answer the question, big man. No secrets in a fireteam," she ordered in a voice colder than a night on Mercury.
He sighed. "No, I was not thhere. But... I helped defend itt."
"From who? The Fallen?"
"You. Lightbearers."
Poppy's head snapped to look at him. Then she snatched Sienna's arm. "Sienna, can we talk for a sec?," she asked, already dragging the Hunter out of Narvuk's earshot. "If he's talking about what it sounds like he's talking about, we cannot tell Eris. Ever." Sienna gave her a puzzled look, but Poppy was already walking back to Narvuk and sitting down in front of him. "Hey, big guy, how many Guardians do you remember?"
"Nnot sure. Dozens? No, not dozen, what was it... hundreds. Maybe thousands. Whhy?"
"Shit. Shit," Poppy spat. "Oh, we are so fucked. Okay, Narvuk? I need you to promise me that you will not breathe a word of this to anyone. I swear, I'll explain, just promise me that," she finished, raising her hands to forestall any interruptions.
Narvuk dipped his chin, and Poppy let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. "Look, big guy, I won't lie to you. This is bad, for all of us. You fought in what we call the Great Disaster. After what happened at Burning Lake, the Consensus voted to launch a counterattack. Hundreds of us died final deaths, some of them our best and brightest. Eris was there, you know. She saw Crota kill Wei Ning, one of the strongest Titans this Tower's ever seen. They say the sky turned to green fire. If this gets out, DeMarcus isn't the only one who's gonna hate you."
"But whhy? That was my old life. Not who I am annymore."
"They're not gonna care, Narvuk! All they're gonna be thinking about is who they lost, and all that pain will turn into anger, and that anger? It's all gonna be pointed at you."
"That won't be the only thing pointed at him," Sienna interjected, sill looking out at the horizon. She turned to face them, one hand dropping to the hand cannon on her side. "We need to get him out of here. Now." Poppy shook her head.
"What about Banshee? He's supposed to have something for Narvuk in a few days, at the most."
Sienna cut a line through the air with her hand. "Not a priority right now. We need to get to the Hangar and get out ASAP. Narvuk, you think you can portal over there unnoticed?" The Knight thought for a moment, then nodded. "Good. We'll meet you there in a few minutes. Try not to be seen or start any trouble. Poppy, you're with me," she ordered, gaze now fixed on the doorway.
Narvuk began hastily conjuring a portal as Poppy stood to follow Sienna. He looked back, nodded, then stepped through. He emerged in a corner of the Hangar, out of sight to almost anyone. The corner was cramped, however, so he wedged his way out a little, but froze when he heard voices nearby. "-nce he doesn't have his fireteam around, we pop his Ghost and put him back in the ground. Clear?" Narvuk recognized the voice of DeMarcus as the Guardians around him murmured their affirmations. Through the equipment-filled shelf, he could make out the shapes of four or five others with the Titan. He edged closer, which was difficult due to his large frame.
As he inched past the shelves, DeMarcus resumed. "Look, guys, I know that I might be asking a lot, and some of you have your... misgivings." He gave a pointed look to a Hunter to his right, who put his hands up in a "don't look at me" gesture. "But one thing we all agree on is that the Traveler made a mistake when it chose a Hive" - he put such venom into the word that Narvuk could almost feel it - "to be a Guardian. It's just wrong."
One of the Warlocks raised his hand, like a child in a classroom. "What if this is a test? And the Traveler wants to see if we can see past what he is? If we fail, what happens to us then?" Just then, Narvuk's shoulder brushed a wrench enough that it shifted, scraping against the shelf. He froze as the group whipped around. DeMarcus leaned down to try and get a better view, but when saw nothing, he shook his head and turned back to his friends, only to see Sienna and Poppy coming around the corner into the Hangar.
"Time to go, boys," he murmured, already leading them away to the other end of the Hangar. As they passed the girls, most of hisgroup ignored them, though the Warlock who had spoken up gave a respectful nod that Sienna returned. After making sure the group wouldn't double back, the girls casually made their way to where DeMarcus had been.
"Big guy, if you're here, it's clear to come out," Poppy muttered.
"I wwould, but I'm a little stuck."
The Warlock turned to the corner and noticed the blue glow from Narvuk's eyes. She held in her laughter when she saw his predicament, mostly because of the pained look already on his face. "Alright, let's get you out of there," she said as she rolled up her sleeves and grabbed his arm.
After a few tense minutes of pulling (with some help from Sienna), they managed to get Narvuk free. He rolled his shoulders and grunted his thanks, not making eye contact with either of the girls. "Big guy, you alright? Getting stuck happens to all of us, nothing to be ashamed of," Poppy assured, waving him to follow her to the ship. He opened his mouth to say something, but though better of it and followed as quietly as he could.
Once he was as secure as he could manage in the back of Poppy's ship, Narvuk knocked twice on the wall to signal her. A few moments later, they were rocketing away from the Tower and into orbit. "So where exactly are you planning on going, big guy? There's Vanguard ops everywhere, except maybe the Tangled Shore, but Spider is... yeah, he's worse."
"Whhat is this 'Tangled Shhore'?"
Sienna spoke for the first time since the Tower. "It's a hive of scum and Darkness, a haven for anyone who doesn't want to be found. You're free to conduct any nasty business there you want, so long as you play by the Spider's rules."
"It's perfect. Let's ggo."

Log this privately. Yes I know. No I don’t care.
Received a message from Thara, maybe a day after I left to do some training. New Titan, love training new Titans because they fucking listen to me without arguing and I can’t emphasize how valuable that is. Anyway, Klatsch starts freaking out, getting tons of messages. From Thara, what she’s doing.
Apparently she got roped into ‘Robe Duty’, escorting a couple noodle eggheads to have their Ghosts scan a bunch of rocks and take the collected data (see; their rocks) back to the Tower (to verify their rockitude). Yes, I know I’m being silly. Yes, Klatsch I know the circumstances of what happened but humor is how I cope so absolutely fuck off with your chastising bullshit.
Anyway, one of the ‘locks is dead and the other has already ran out of bullets because why would you need ammo in hostile territory? No. That is stupid. It isn’t like Crota didn’t wipe out armies on his fucking own. She sounds pretty... Dreadful in the messages. She’s conveying to me she isn’t going to make it, about all her mistakes and how she regrets not getting to spend time with me and
I have this all on play so Lightfoot over here is just staring at me slack jawed and panicked while I have to HEAR THIS WHOLE GODDAMNED TRANSGRESSION and just. I asked where the messages came from. They’re close. Like, they’re miles off but they’re in a couple hours travel. Told me the situation; Caves and Space bugs. Not ‘bugmen’, not the fallen.
Hive.
I hate the Hive. I despise everything about the Hive. I can rationalize the cabal and fallen. I /get/ the vex. But Hive? Cabal are conquers, sure. Fallen are scavengers, sure. The vex even are just robots looking to robotize everything. But they’re different. They can spare, I’ve watched each of them do it. Stories of the fallen leaving children behind, the vex ignoring Guardians, the damn cabal choosing not to shoot at people.
But the Hive only kill. They only kill and sacrifice and murder. Torture, Their whole society, their whole culture is nothing but genocide. An entire species waiting to kill everything before they kill themselves. They’re just entropy given form and I hate them. And she’s being chased into the tunnels with a Warlock without ammo and she’s believing she’s going to die? New Titan learned something that day.
See lots of Hunters forget what we do, as Hunters; as Guardians. Spin and twirl their guns around and talk hot shit like they’re unstoppable. Titans thrust up their shoulders and flex muscles they think they have. Warlocks make up words to feel smarter than they actually are and I see it. All the time. The flexing and bragging and I hate it. I’d like to say ‘Titan learned what happens when you piss off a Hunter’ and be all Mister Macho, and he didn’t. He saw what happens when you truly scare this Hunter specifically.
We broke camp immediately. Alekos, was his name, didn’t even question it. His Ghost transmatted his armor and readied his guns and I think I’ve never broke a camp ground so fast in my lives. Minutes. Packed shit up and we left, didn’t think twice. Pretty sure we left utensils but fuck it, I can make more. Even make them unrusty this time. And we sped off. Kid didn’t talk, not a single question asked.
We’re Guardians.
I’ve spent the first two years of my life after revival wandering north and south America, spent days in battle with the fallen. Shit’s harsh. But I always repaid my debts. I collected water and firewood for settlements that took me in. Didn’t get asked, out of the free will I have. Killed raider parties, scumbags and fallen alike. Never once asked for anything in return. I tell you, that is what Guardians nowadays forget. Caught up in the Crucible and shady ass Gambit. Getting their jimmies off to worthless Awoken and their incompetent royal court. They forget their titles, their purpose. Their whole fucking point.
We finally stop about a mile outward, no engine roars or flashy lights, just some bulky ass kid and a moderately shaky Hunter. Alekos had never seen the Hive til now, but we got a good look. Thara said it felt like the Hive were corralling them further down into the cave system, and she was probably right. Been on two Hive rescue missions, and it is their MO, push things down until it can’t escape then attrition them out. It prolongs the mental panic and terror of what they do. Have kid post to the left, I go to the right. Hive like to rush left, dunno why, they just do. He can take a hit better, and they’ll be focused on me and trying to flank.
Outwardly, two Knights, three Thrall. Guess it’s a small clutch from a single Wizard with some Acolytes inside. Killing Crota and Oryx followed by the Red Legion running in did a number on the Hive on Earth, they were straggling pretty heard. Told the kid to broadcast the whereabouts to the City and nearby Guardians to their Ghosts, to not alert sounds. Likely wouldn’t get pings back, but they would know what was going on and if Thara were down there, she would know.
Knights have fat heads. They’re dropped at the same time. Piss off the Thrall, release them of my misery pretty fast. Hey, they didn’t suffer so it was a mercy kill.
The interior of the cave is crawling with that nasty infection the Hive ooze out. Arden and Melia both explained it to me once, didn’t care to listen. Told the kid it was Hive goop and he was happy to ignore me too. Small world. Lights gave away Hive locations but they knew we were there to begin with. Stalled time on Thara if she were alive. And she was.
I don’t do hopeful optimism. She’s strong and smart and the best Guardian I have ever seen and no zombie looking ass bug ass space fuckers would do her in. Lots of Thrall, some Acolytes, thought so. Told the kill to shoulder his gun and aim straight, Hive have no self preservation. Single shots, bam, bam, bam. Conserve ammo by simply straight shots. Thrall are easy. Get close, punch them.
Learned he was Arc, by the way. May not have had a knack for fishing, but he sure shot well. Damned well. Each room was a simple mix: Toss in a concussive grenade, toss in an incendiary grenade. Anything left alive was going to struggle with seeing, so post up, he took first point, I took second while he reloaded. Breach and clear, only Orges and Wizards are a problem. Encountered none, just foot troops. Figured, since she never mentioned the big guys.
We traveled what felt like an eternity. Killed some of those worm things Hive always have, stained my armor layers of green and black ichor couldn’t tell you much about, smelled through our filtering system but we still marched. Swear this was longer than the journey down. It was long. Painted the walls of this cave with the blood of the Hive the whole way down. Had to even stop and make Klatsch fix my gun, melted the barrel at one point.
No ‘supers’, kept it light. Guns matter when Light doesn’t, Red Legion taught us that much. Also fucks with the Hive, they’re pretty unintuitive. Finally start getting some messages outbound from a signal I recognize. Cairde, Thara’s Ghost. Klatsch starts freaking out about what direction to go, get there in a hurry. Kaito, the Warlock, is still alive but injured and panicked. Thara is also alive and I have never asserted such quick dominance as quickly as I did then. What I wanted, and what I know she wanted, was to rush up and hug and embrace and tell her she’s okay. But while we were there, no can do. We have to move. And move we did.
Screeching from the ass end of the cave, and I am certain that was the lair of a Wizard, probably luring Guardians in their to drain their Light and repopulate. We killed a good bunch of her brood, and likely now she was clambering up to take a reaping. Kaito could walk, Thara was in a daze but could walk. In a fight? Not so much. Alekos, Kaito, Thara, myself, that was the order. Big guy took point, Kaito and Thara could provide cover, I led the rear. If Wizard would catch up, we’d be able to handle it that way. But it never did. In fact, we never saw any more Hive after that. Like they stopped and just observed us all together. Don’t know. Don’t care.
We got out of their and had Ghosts transmat us far off as possible, even orbitting just to prove a point. Hung out for... An hour or so, probably? Alekos and Kaito ran back to the City to report what happened, that was maybe an hour ago?
Still have Thara on my ship. Still recording this message quietly. Privately. She could have died for no reason and I can feel my blood boiling. I’m mad, I’m mad and angry and hurt and I have no one to aim this pain at but she’ll live. She’ll live instead of dying alone in that cave and when she wakes up she’s going to say something stupid and I’m going to love her for it but she’s just laying there helpless. Helpless and alive is better than simply dead.
You can stop recording Klatsch, I think I’m done recanting the scariest thing in all my lives. Thanks for listening.

Expanding on this...
🤔 I think Perry thinks she's a bad and weak person, and behaves in a really similar way to Osiris with regard to that. A very "I make mistakes and will keep making mistakes because if I don't at least try, we will all die." A very "I'm not the hero we deserve, and honestly probably not the hero we need, but I'm whatcha got so what's good?"
A superior inferiority complex, if you will. Not that I'm saying Osiris is the same, don't wanna put complexes on him he might not have, only that she acts in a similar way to him.
This is something she starts to feel in TTK, when Oryx enters the system gunning for HER in particular. Obviously she couldn't not off Crota, but her deeds just couldn't go unpunished, and now everyone is in greater danger because of her. The deaths of the Awoken in particular weigh on her immensely. Her job to put him down. To fix it.
Red War rolls along, she's face to face with Ghaul, the big hero to put a stop to the slaughter...and she fails. If she'd have been faster moving through the ship, she could have killed him before the cage was put in place. Or so she thinks anyway 🤷‍♀️ once again her fault. Her responsibility to fix. (Note Cayde also has a huge fixation on Gary for similar reasons. Much more so than Ikora or Zavala. He doesn't get despondent or go soul searching, he gets MAD.)
Forsaken. She's too slow. It doesn't matter that Cayde's stunt killed her, adding to the time it took to realize something wasn't right and get to him. Doesn't matter she was never informed about the prisoners or Cayde's haphazard plan. Doesn't matter she still fought through basically an entire army to get to him. Doesn't matter there was basically another army where he was.
She's too slow. It's her fault. And she fixes it because that's how she's always operated, but this time it's seemingly against the wishes of the person she failed. And the wound is actually a bit fresh again now because, as I said earlier, Peregrine has personally executed everyone involved in his death. Not just Uldren. Not just the Barons. Not just Riven. Perry took the issue all the way to the tippy top. To The Witch Queen Savathun herself.
So Perry thinks what she needs for true closure is to hear him say it. Say she fucked up, and she's disappointing him for being weak and continuing to struggle to let go.
What she really needs is the knowledge that he would understand, did understand, because in truth she's actually lot like him.
So, for Perry, the reason she wants to see a Nightmare of Cayde so badly is because she wants to hear him scold her.
I know I know, but hear me out.
The real Cayde was unambiguous: his death was not her fault, and she should put it all behind her. Instead, she takes up his mantle, literally, and personally executes every soul involved in his murder, and continues to feel that if she had only been just a little faster... just a little faster, she could have saved him.
Peregrine thinks that because she wants to hear his disappointment in her choice to go against his express wishes and her inability to forgive herself, the pyramid won't make a Nightmare for her.
In truth, the thing she needs to hear most, the thing that could give her closure, is something only Crow knows.
She needs to hear that Cayde threatened Uldren and the Barons, claiming any minute his partner would show up to kill them all. She needs to hear that while Cayde hadn't wanted her to take his death to the lengths she does...he knew that she would. She needs to hear that he wouldn't, couldn't, be disappointed in her because he already knew how she'd react.

a long and extended post on destiny 2, spoilers ahoy
alright im just going to get this out of the way right now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
INHALES
oh my god. oh my absolute FUCKING shitting god. oh. my fucking god. holy ABSOLUTE fuck.
i honestly like. theres no way i could even edit the fucking charlie day in the mailroom img to fully encompass the absolute level i have been on all god damn week. in an attempt to be slightly more serious all of this? everything here? the quests on io and the adventure about the taken? that was so unexpectedly UNBELIEVABLY satisfying that i didn’t even feel the same push to finish the story quest after that point. this was everything i could have possibly dreamed of and more, this was THE follow-up to TTK that i wanted, and i don’t think i’m ever going to not be in a state of losing my utter fucking mind over this. i didn’t expect ANYTHING like this, especially after no taken anything in RoI, so this was like. probably the most satisfying sequel experience i have ever had? in a really odd way? just. god. i cannot believe that everything i ever wanted in re: some buried lore was delivered to me. i’m never going to be over this. and then there was that shot at the very end of the light washing over saturn and over the dreadnaught and i honestly felt my heart clench a lil bit...... GOD!!!!! THEY DID IT!!!! specifically for Me, Personally, they did it!!! and my aunt is here now!!!!!! SHES HERE ! GOD
god. okay. in terms of gameplay -- gameplay felt good! the areas are all really fucking interesting and SUPER gorgeous, and i like the ways they changed/tweaked the factions and ranking stuff. fast travel is absolutely incredible. i love having a map, and it’s useful without feeling like it’s a cheat or like i’m being spoon-fed. i love that you can scan stuff with ghost wherever you go!! and GOD public events are so much better now that you can actually tell when something is going to show up, jesus. the planet faction leader thing is also really neat, i like that a lot. sloane is my wife, sorry i don’t make the rules. i loved finally getting patrols back -- that was the point when the game started to feel like destiny for me again, because i spent a huge amount of time in D1 doing patrols and bounties. and i like challenges too! that’s a cool system and a nice upgrade to bounties. i wish i could have had a sparrow earlier, but i can appreciate that they tied it in to plot, and that made sense, so.... eh
in terms of story, in general, i liked it. it was much better than vanilla destiny but that is... not a particularly high bar, lmao. it was a good story experience, and they tied in story to areas really, really well. emma just mentioned this, but i’m also peeved that you get your light back basically uhhh fuckin immediately. that felt kinda cheap? i was expecting to spend much more time without my light, so it felt weird to get it back in. what. the third quest? though i did like the way you got subclasses back, it felt nice to earn those. also, i cannot BELIEVE that the taken showed up for the nightstalker quest. they really hand-tailored that for Me Specifically. jesus christ
ghaul made a pretty decent villain; he had the power to back up his threats, and the game showed us this, and then we beat his ass, The End. i was surprised that he ended up turning on his teacher, i genuinely thought he was going to back off and wait for the traveler to give him light, and that the teacher was gonna backstab him.
but overall i think my biggest issue with the story is that we were supposed to be the Only guardian to get the light back. imo, that was a huge fucking mistake. the thing that made destiny stand out to me is that we’re all guardians. we all have these sickass powers, and we all worked together to kill crota, to capture skolas, to kill oryx, to stop the siva crisis. and then to have that shoved into I Am The Only Chosen One felt really weird, and kinda bad. especially because... this wasn’t a single-player game. if it had been, then, sure, i guess? so it made the public areas feel really awkward when i was working through the campaign, and at the end when we were fighting through the city, that was SUPER weird because if Me is supposed to be The Only One, then.... why are all these other guardians here. using their powers. it would have been so easy to write the vanguard as not having their light by doing something like, i dunno, guardians are getting their light back completely at random with no rhyme or reason to it, and it just so happens that the vanguard never got theirs back. there u go bungo, i fixed it for you. just like. destiny felt so great because when i talk about my guardian she’s my guardian, and my friends talk about their guardians, and they all coexist without having to wrangle canon into accepting why there are two Chosen Ones and not One like the Plot says. all in all, it’s not something that’ll ruin my overall Experience, i think, though it’s definitely got me feeling :T
i’m really excited to keep going with the postgame stuff; i did the one on io already (of course i prioritized that) and lost any of the rest of my shit that i had left at FUCKING QURIA
god. i know MIDA multi-tool has its own quest and imma get started on that asap, and then slowly mop up the rest of the stuff i have to do. i’ve only done two strikes, and the first one i got was fucking savathun’s song, which i’m pretty sure was the game’s way of laughing at me. in general i am so pleased with this game and i’m so ready to keep exploring. it’s small things but especially now at the end, with patrols and sparrows and “bounties” back, i feel like it’s Destiny(tm) and i’m excited to play through more.
THOUGH i really wish there had been some kind of option for people who played on console then switched to PC to have alternate dialogue options, because i got told a lot of stuff that i’d already known :(

more destiny oc stuff: avias past and yr 1 destiny timeline
totally inspired by @mrpinstripesuit‘s post last night, also featuring their guardians, also @nattiebug14 and @lostinthehaywoods oc’s carver and cornelia
(im making a lot of assumptions on how grier and avia met btw pin so if theres anything you disagree with or wanna change thats cool!!)
- petra and avia become part of the queens guard - uldren takes an interest in avia, potential for her to become a crow, which she really, really doesnt want - reef wars, petras sister dies, avia begins to question the awoken, why this happened
- petra grieves, avia is alone for the longest time and becomes frustrated, wondering what they're even fighting for - petra is promoted to the corsairs and avia has mixed feelings. petra needs the direction but avia doesnt think a promotion will fix anything, also if avia was a corsair uldren would Leave Her Alone.  - tries to convince petra that everything is bullshit but petra just hears jealousy and treason - uldren pulls her up on it, and that's when she knows she needs to Leave - steals a harbinger at the first opportunity she gets - gets out of the reef and into our solar system before the other harbingers find her - it's a long ass fight, avia is able to evade them for the longest time until they shoot her engines out somewhere around the moon - she dies. the harbingers leave. a ghost is born, shakes its shell, and starts searching. - the remnants of her ship, with her nestled in the cockpit, break orbit of earth and crash land in the cosmodrome - she's revived with her memory in tact and her heart broken to pieces - she rejects her ghost and the light at first but her ghost is persistent and she gives in and follows him through the cosmodrome to find a ship - they make it to the tower and she's so fucking scared. the awoken do not speak highly of the guardians. - but her ghost leads her gently to cayde and he welcomes her jovially. doesn't much care for her past (only because he doesn't expect her to know it) - going through the D1 story is what gives her the direction she needed and begins to ground her, making her realise she can be a better person than she ever was at the reef - afterwards she admits to cayde that she remembers everything, after figuring out that it's not a Thing amongst guardians because she's Confused. he's supportive and passes her onto Ikora - huge mistake - she loves Ikora - cayde is kind of sad about it (jk) - Ikora tells her about the thananotauts and at the concept avia kind of puts her nose up to. it sound stupid and weird to her and refuses to explore it, like ‘oh hey actually I don't care that much I'll just keep being a guardian who has my memory as a bonus yay’ - avia kind of wanders around for a bit, patrolling and running strikes with guardians she never keeps in touch with. this is where she learns that she really, really doesnt get along with a lot of other hunters.
- petra comes to the tower as the queens emissary. avia doesnt recognise her at first but petra recognises her and its
- its not a good time for avia. petra tries to speak to her but avia bails all the way to venus and has a good old fashioned breakdown
- ikora calls her back and puts her on a mission to find tolands scattered journals. she fears the worst ones may still be out there and she doesnt want any wayward guardians finding them and abusing what power may lie within
- little does avia know she has another warlock, scarlet-2, searching for them as well.
- this is how scarlet and avia meet, with avia acting like a cat who caught their own reflection whenever scarlet is around
- scarlet doesnt much care even though this pint sized hunter constantly trying to one up her is. amusing.
- petra tries to approach avia again when shes in the tower with scarlet and the warlock very gently diffuses the situation, and has figured out by now that avia likes to Run Away and so she takes them to the cosmdrome
- avia doesnt give a lot of details, but basically explains the situation to scarlet and mentions that ikora wanted her to talk to the thananotauts and scarlets like ‘ew. you dont need to talk to them. they’re weird and desperate for answers youre fine the way you are.’
- and a friendship is born
- petra venj leaves the tower.
- a fireteam takes on the vault of glass, and avia is only slightly disappointed she wasnt there
- avia spends a lot of time with scarlet and by extension lots of other warlocks too. she becomes a running joke to the vanguard mentors that she chose the wrong class.
- so scarlet and eden met after twilight gap, they both helped build the wall and they became really close buddies. scarlet tells eden that she may have finally found a hunter for their fireteam and eden is so. excited.
- eris morn returns from the moon, and avia sees this funny little warlock awoken talking with her all. the damn. time.
- eden and avia meet, and avia is overwhelmed. she thinks that eden must be a new guardian and doesnt care to ask anything about her and wonders how the hell her and scarlet of all people are so close
- she doesnt really give the friendship a chance (although eden is patient and knows avias type all too well) until zavala asks eden to do routine sweeps of earth and the moon to make sure these blades of crota are kept at bay
- of course, eden drags avia along with her and it takes a wayward mention of building the wall for avia to get off her damn high horse and start taking eden seriously
- they dont really take part in the dark below campaign, just keep on top of the rise in hive activity whilst scarlet talks to ikora and eris and studies the hive at the tower, in the middle of one of her ‘not leaving the tower’ phases that eden tells avia about
- which causes avia to a) worry about scarlet and b) begin to realise shes starting to care for people
- emotions are weird you guys
- avia starts to ask eden about the wall, twilight gap, everything that came before she got to the tower. eden answers all her questions with a raw truthfulness, although she doesnt know the specifics and laughs that scarlet would be better to go to for the history of the guardians and such, but avia is just fine with what eden tells her
- and avia tells eden about her past, about dying but still remembering everything and petra. eden is very chill and happy for avia that shes somewhere better now, that shes trying to be better.
- yay now avia has TWO whole friends. they become an official fireteam and eden is far too excited about it.
- avia starts seeing that funny little awoken warlock less and less, and asks scarlet about him. she knows hes gone missing but kind of shrugs it off as a thing that warlocks do. avia says if scarlet ever does that avia will Hunt Her Down. scarlet just laughs.
- (she says this in earshot of ikora)
- crota is killed. again, avia wanted to be there. she needs more friends
- avia basically sticks like glue to scarlet and eden, kind of refusing to run strikes and missions with any other guardians which is a problem
- avia meets carver and cornelia through eden and scarlet but is still really prickly. her fireteam are at their wits end.
- ikora straight up forces avia on a mission with another warlock, and of course its the funny one who went missing a while back
- she sees something in ikoras eyes when they meet for the first time but knows better than to question it
- this. kid. is. a. handful.
- their mission is something hive related, a big risk on ikoras part but avia guides them through safely.
- ‘ooh a hive thing!’ ‘do we need to know about the hive thing?’ ‘no, but I-’ ‘then lets move on grier.’ ‘but-’ ‘now.’
- ‘youre mean, avia.’ ‘im also keeping us alive.’ ‘you dont have to be mean about it.’
- ‘fine, i will stop being mean if you start doing what i tell you to. deal?’
- idk i kind of imagine grier latching onto avia for reasons that i cant explain bc grier isnt my character but hes basically exactly what avia needs at this point in her life, a funny little warlock who gets under her skin.
- she massively underestimates him, reminding her of what she did with eden so she loosens up and gives him a chance.
- they run more missions and strikes together. she asks questions about his gun, his attire, why he likes the hive so damn much.
- he tells her about toland and the hive, and the weapons of sorrow whilst explaining bad juju. she makes a mental note to keep an eye on him whenever he uses it (and somewhere ikora smiles gently to herself. it scares cayde.)
- she tells him about the journals she found in the wild and he just :oooooooo asks a lot of questions about where and what was in them and what that could infer
- ‘wait avia, i thought you didnt care about hive stuff?’ ‘what? no, i just... dont like getting off track during missions.’ ‘oh. then does that mean you also actually like me and arent mean to me cause you dont?’
- she begins to find him quite endearing.
- he gets them out of a lot of jams during missions just from his practical know-how and shes impressed too.
- also asks a lot of questions about his sunsinger abilities and esp reviving himself. shes only ever seen scarlet be a voidwalker so sunsinger amazes her endlessly. she sees grier as a lot more powerful than he sees himself, and again, its totally endearing to her.
- he introduces her to rook and eve. avia steers clear of rook at first, even though she finds him handsome straight off the bat.
- they play a few iron banner matches together, a mixture of griers fireteam, hers and carver and cornelia. avia starts to develop a crush after realising how laid back and relaxed rook is.
- also how freaking good at crucible he is.
- he’s really easy to be around, she can be herself around him, around another hunter which is something she never thought she’d have. i imagine that means they talk about their class a lot seeing as avia never really did that with anyone else, or really cayde for that matter. it helps to get an insight into what being a hunter is all about from a guy who doesnt take it so seriously.
- the flirting starts, playful and nothing serious and we allllllll knowwwww where that leads to
- then the wolves revolt.
- before the tower even find out, she receives a message from petra, apologising. asking her questions about being a guardian, how she is. avia ignores it, the first of many.
- she Refuses to get involved.
- not even scarlet and eden can convince her. or ikora. or cayde.
- but grier comes back from the reef one day and looks really dejected and hurt and avia is just. who hurt you. what happened. and he explains that none of the awoken at the reef like him??? he thinks a couple of them looked at him weird he couldnt tell it was all confusing and avia kind of sighs and. explains some things.
- she tells him that she used to be Awoken and that she knew petra and basically tells him everything about her past whilst explaining that the Awoken have a very high opinion of themselves  - they go back to the reef together, but she still doesnt want to get involved in the uprising.
- she goes and patches things tentatively with petra another day. its a case of avia explaining how she became a guardian and petra explaining why she was forced to become an emissary after accidentally killing a team of guardians. its an amicable, but strained relationship. they basically realise that they were never friends, just competitors. theyre both happier where they are now.
- avia grows closer to grier to the point where they’re inseparable, she flirts with rook, runs missions and strikes with her fireteam and really starts to come into her own as a guardian
- she runs a lot of prison of elders with cornelia and carver and grows closer to them too, eventually apologising for being a little standoffish when they first met
- now avia has SO MANY FRIENDS and gets really emotional whenever she thinks about it
and then taken king and rise of iron happen and they deserve posts of themselves tbh but!!! avias D1 experience!!! i love this kid so much
