Still playing around with the camera settings on my phone when I go for walks (this was #64). Took a surprisingly nice photo of a sign and some tufted vetch (with bonus bumblebee) at the top of the many flights of stairs down to the old high school (now grade school) in the bottom of what was once a gravel pit. I like the depth of field the portrait mode gives, it's much more attractive than the trying-to-be-sharp-everywhere of the regular photo mode.
Still failing to get the hang of the macro setting, even when I'm the right distance I get poor results. This was the best I managed out of multiple attempts along my route:

Growing Green Farming- Exploring Potential of Biofertilizers Market
Biofertilizers does role of protecting soil by destroying many harmful substances present in soil causing crop diseases. In semi-arid conditions, biofertilizers enhance crop productivity and the quality of agricultural products. Soil microbes influence crop growth as they can improve nitrogen content in soil. Sustainable practices have gained traction of attention in farming practices and products leading to farmers' preference for green fertilizers.
The Biofertilizers market is foreseen to grow with a CAGR of 12.2% in 2021-2028. This market has the potential to surpass a valuation of USD 4,474.43 million by 2028.
Growing population driving demand for food security. This is foreseen to create crop production pressure on farmers. Probing the need for healthy agriculture contributed to garnering attention on biofertilizers. Soil quality, water, and fertilizers are determinants of healthy agriculture. Biofertilizers are the best alternative to chemical fertilizers when added to the soil they promote fertility.
With time arable land loses its yield capacity where fortification with fertilizer is needed. Biofertilizers are natural sources to promote nutrition uptake in crops and eventually lead to growth. Consumers globally started to shift towards organic food which begins right from sustainable farming and ends with clean-label products at shelves. Biofertilizers have resistance to environmental stress and they mobile growth hormones. Rising food safety concerns around the globe are foreseen to create a lucrative space for organic products and biofertilizers.

i will kill all idiots who think wildflower patches are like. Every Wild Beast Who I Hate Habitat. there are fleas and ticks in your lawn too. there are MORE TICKS in places with less mammals coming through (deer, squirrels, etc that the ticks can feed on instead of u) and insecticides/herbicides kill off beneficial insects so there’s more habitat for ticks to hang around. and if you aren’t attracting birds with seed or WILDFLOWERS THAT NATURALLY MAKE SEED FOR BIRDS then you will have MORE pests.
people are just so stupid instead of planting things to attract bugs and birds they WANT that will do bad insect management they just keep going down the line of killing everything and making uninhabitable space. but ig its “safer for kids” (your kids will just get sick from playing in roundup!!!) or you wont have to see a fucking garter snake. oh the horror. kids should be exposed to plants and animals and clearly ppl who think that a wilder lawn will just be fucking pest central didn’t play enough outside. and tbh im blaming YOU for my neighbor who removed the blackberry bush as soon as he moved in that neighborhood kids had been eating for years…

The nodules for nitrogen fixing are so cute jdjsjsjsjdjd
In the roots of one of 4 varieties of beans im planting this summer (feijão macarrão, feijão carioca, feijão vermelho e feijão de chile). By the middle of fall we will see which variety works best for my area.
I'll also try planting a relatively small pumpkin variety (here we call it Cabotian or Japanese pumpkin)

Mastering the Art of Nitrogen Fixing Plants: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
Every flourishing garden is a result of rich, nutrient-dense soil. The secret ingredient for such a successful garden? Nitrogen. This vital nutrient plays a pivotal role in plant growth, but understanding how to harness its power naturally can be a daunting task. Enter nitrogen fixing plants, nature's answer to an organic and sustainable method of enhancing soil fertility.
The Ultimate Guide To Nitrogen Fixing Plants
As a passionate gardener, I've always been fascinated by the magic of nitrogen fixing plants. These incredible species have the ability to take nitrogen from the air and convert it into a form that plants can use for growth and development.
One of the most well-known nitrogen fixers is the clover, which is often used as a cover crop to improve soil fertility. I remember planting clover in my garden and being amazed at how quickly it revitalized the soil.
Understanding the importance of nitrogen fixers can truly transform your gardening experience, enriching your soil, and boosting the health of your plants.
Other popular nitrogen fixing plants include beans, peas, and alfalfa. These plants not only benefit your garden, but they also play a crucial role in sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
When incorporating nitrogen fixers into your garden, it's important to rotate them with other crops to prevent nutrient depletion. This practice not only maintains soil health but also promotes a diverse and balanced ecosystem.
Choose nitrogen fixing plants that are well-suited to your climate and soil conditions.
Rotate nitrogen fixers with other crops to maximize soil health and fertility.
Explore different ways to incorporate nitrogen fixers into your garden, such as cover cropping or intercropping.
By harnessing the power of nitrogen fixing plants, you can create a thriving garden that is not only beautiful but also sustainable and environmentally friendly. So why not give them a try and experience the magic for yourself?
For more in-depth information on nitrogen fixing plants, check out this comprehensive guide and take your gardening to the next level.

What do you mean by Venus floating cities?
I'm hoping to write a science fiction story about visiting Venus as part of the space race and I would love your input
Alright so the thing with Venus is that we're all very familiar with her horrible hell-death clouds and 900°F surface temperatures. We all understand the surface of Venus is not a fun place for humans to be.
Tumblr media
But, nobody ever talks about the fact that ABOVE the hell-death clouds, Venus is a paradise. The most Earth-like environment we know of in the solar system, beyond Earth itself, is actually in the skies of Venus.
About 30 miles above the surface, the pressure is ~1 atmosphere, and the temperature ranges from 30 - 100°F, which is Happy Human™ standard pressure and temperature.
What's more, a breathable mix of oxygen and nitrogen provides over 60% the lifting power on Venus that helium does on Earth. In other words, a balloon full of human-breathable air would float to the habitable range of Venus's atmosphere. We could float a ship with the very air we breathe.
The other great thing about this is that it avoids one of the big problems with Mars colonization. On Mars, any habitat on the surface full of breathable air is vulnerable to leaks and explosive decompression, a la the Martian.
Tumblr media
Floating on Venus, a balloon full of breathable air doesn't have a significant pressure difference between the inside and the outside. Which means, any leaks or tears would be very slow and manageable. You could fix that shit with duct tape!
Similarly, because the environment outside the balloon is so Earth-like, humans living there wouldn't need any big fancy pressurized suits for extravehicular work. We'd need air to breathe, maybe some heat protection, and protection against the acid rain. That's it.
Venus also provides the tools to keep us fed! It's atmosphere is made primarily of carbon dioxide, even above the dense horrible clouds. What likes carbon dioxide? Plants from Earth!! Lets grow FOOD on FLOATING PLATFORMS in the SKIES of VENUS.
This whole idea actually came out of a NASA effort exploring potential Venus colonization. The program was called HAVOC - the High Altitude Venus Operational Concept.
It hasn't really gone anywhere, and as far as I know there are no real plans to revisit it. Unfortunately, from a practicality standpoint, Mars is a much more viable target for human colonization. Not only is it better poised for outer solar system exploration, being farther away from the sun, but living on Venus would come with too many complicated contingencies. In the event of a major failure on Venus, you'd need to fly to another base, or fuck off all the way to orbit. I understand why people aren't really in a hurry to live somewhere where landing on the surface means certain death.
But that doesn't mean I won't be forever and always enamored by the skies of Venus. Here's one of the artist concepts to come out of HAVOC.

I want to be there.

This Black History Month, reflect for a moment on the fact that George Washington Carver, famously "the inventor of peanut butter and more than 100 industrial uses for peanuts" wasn't, like, Doc Brown fucking around in his garage because he really liked peanuts but was specifically trying to introduce larger use of a nitrogen fixing legume into crop rotations against cotton monoculture which was destroying yields, livelihoods and the biosphere, and how most agribusiness farming now just destroys that topsoil on purpose and continues to grow a cotton monoculture (or soy or corn or whichever local monoculture is profitable) using petrochemical derived fertilizer, which is one element driving climate change
Daniel Hale Williams performed the first successful heart surgery. He also founded the first nonsegregated hospital in America because he was keenly aware of disparate health outcomes by race which is still a problem today.
WEB Dubois was a part of the delegations for the birth of the UN. His proposal to include in the charter that "the colonial system of government … is undemocratic, socially dangerous and a main cause of wars" was not adapted for the final draft. We might see inaction against colonial violence to this day as part of the failure of others to heed his warnings there.
I feel like so often when we look at Black History Month so much of it is driven by factoids but when taken as history in context its about a direct line from decades and centuries to what is happening right now.
