My five happy things for today

• made cooking-blog-photo-perfect farls this afternoon

• The Goblin Emperor

• finally got laundry going!!

• accidentally found the shower with the best water pressure out of all of them in the locker room

• got to see Mars and Orion and a a few familiar stars

five good things for today

i went to my dad’s and had soooooo many midi cuddles today she is just a little old lady

we also had pizza and chips! i saved my leftover chips for tomorrow lunch :)

i crocheted a little star with a 2mm hook to see if i would enjoy micro crochet. i fear not for me but the star is super cute and i might try some more things with it, the colour would be nice for some earrings! (drop pattern recs if you have any, all i can think of rn is making clouds)

went to a book talk by one of my favourite authors :D

the way there involved walking along a street i had never been to before and it was very nice and pretty and atmospheric and there was a gap in the hedge and i wanted to run through it

• being able to love people

• THE WORLD IS FULL OF MORE THAN I CAN EVER ENCOUNTER BUT BY GOD I GET TO ENCOUNTER SOME OF IT!!!

• when Aoife goes to sleep with a stuffed toy tucked under her neck

• whatever was going on with that fearless dancing crow (and his victory food crumb he was hyped over) I got to hang with for a minute waiting for our (my) bus

• star stickers

• THE LIBRARY JUST CONSTANTLY LETS ME CHECK OUT AN EBOOK/AUDIOBOOK WITH NO WAIT TIME IF IT’S AVAILABLE DO YOU REALIZE WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TIME WE LIVE IN. I don’t even have to GO anywhere, it’s just BOOM

• the gym after 10 PM when no one gives a single shit and everyone is in just normal clothes and random outfits instead of Gym Outfits

• sack of potatoes

• found the nail polish I meant to use two months ago

• the moss growing on the concrete wall under the sidewalk lighting!

• knowing how many humans have made it through all manner of things before I ever even existed

• the plants the person two doors down planted in that empty planter thing

• gained another inch or so of ribcage and back twisting/expansion again

• didn’t land on my kneecap when I got judo flipped by the wrapping paper tube. and then was able to walk everything off with minimal knee and arm bruising. Thanks, body!

• actually remembered my nightmares for the second night in a row and was able to journal about this one

• FINALLY remembered to pick up shampoo just in time (ran out yesterday)

• saw a BUNCH of relatives

• got to see and hug and kiss grandma one last time before she’s gone soon

• learned a lot of things about people I never knew before

• had fun exchanging gifts with some of my nephews and nieces and they were so sweet and everyone DID like the wrapping paper I used

• assorted sizes of damp dog paw prints on concrete leading away from puddles

• Sammi came and purred and made biscuits on a spot that hurt a lot

• my brain and body are letting me process some more memories and sensations for the first time in a while

• my dissociation’s been kicking in on and off for a few weeks now and didn’t abandon me forever just because I was safer and doing better for a while. It’s still a tool in the toolbox of coping

• FINALLY A DIAGNOSIS! After all this time I got to know that and understand my body better as I move forward, instead of playing a guessing game of whack-a-mole

• the texture of specifically the shiny-cover paperbacks

• hot green tea poured straight over ice in the summer

• also, silicone straws.

• unlocked a little bit more spine and ribcage movement that’s been tied up for years

• depression-era grandparents and all their skill and wisdom

• MULTI-PACKS of BELOW-ANKLE SOCKS. little me you never do change and you are so right. I’m still keeping those ankles free and loose babyyyy 😄

• ereaders. Genuinely there is not much more I require to keep me occupied for like. days. I can’t imagine having one as like. a seven year old. The sheer POWER. you can just DOWNLOAD LIBRARY BOOKS 24 HOURS A DAY

• I forgot it was new years tomorrow so I get I surprise day off work! (Required day off, lmao)

• magnets!!!! they’re so handy! They’re so cool! I don’t envy people who do electromagnetism calculations on a regular basis! good god!

• I FOUND A PLACE THAT SELLS SALT BAGELS. PLAIN BAGELS COATED IN PRETZEL SALT. THESE ARE AMAZING

• the cat was so happy in the box we opened that she hung out in there for ages purring and playing and chirping

• got to watch another Godzilla movie with my cousin

• started figuring out what I’m going to read this autumn

• looked out the window at exactly the moment rain droplets started to hit the metal roof in little dark circles magically popping up before my very eyes

My five happy things for two days ago

• learned interesting facts about orange tree groves in Florida and the climate oranges grow in best and naturally (surprisingly, not Florida)

• fed myself even when I didn’t want to do it and it felt like way too much work

• getting more practiced at mending and hand sewing again. It feels good to fumble the needle less frequently

• super cool lumpy moss patch by one of the benches!

• lovely conversation with a crow while we hung out
