Kandice promised Haleigh that she would take her to work with her while Roman and Koda went fishing. With Kandice working late at the bakery, she didn’t have the time she used to spend with her daughter. In all honesty, she was surprised the seventeen-year-old wanted to spend time with her mom instead of her friends.

  “Are you and daddy gonna miss me?” Haleigh asked rolling out fondant.

  “Of course, we are, Hae. Especially your dad,” Kandice smiled in her youngest child’s direction. It seemed like Haleigh was more worried about leaving than they were. “You’ll have your big brother there so we know you’ll be alright.”

  In another month, Kandice and Roman would be helping Haleigh move into her dorm at the University of Miami right alongside her brother. Even though it was only a three hour drive from Orlando to the school, Roman and Haleigh were acting like they were going to be a lifetime apart. But she couldn’t blame them, Koda and her were the same way when it was time for him to go to college.

  “Yeah when he’s not busy with basketball and I’m not busy with cheering.” She mumbled pulling out another piece of fondant. “You and dad are gonna come to my competitions, right?”

  “Now you know your father wouldn’t miss anything of yours for the world,” Kandice chuckled. Her attention was on the three-tier cake she was icing but she could see Haleigh smiling from the corner of her eye. “Just like we went to your brother’s basketball games, we’ll go to yours.”

  Kandice and Haleigh moved together in comfortable silence. A few of the girls came back to the kitchen area with platters of food for lunch. It was an everyday thing. Kandice brought them lunch, it was to be nice and just in case the bakery got too busy making it hard for them to leave on their breaks.

  From the smell that invaded her senses, Kandice figured out that they had decided on Wing Stop. Wings were honestly her weakness but today they put an uneasy feeling in her stomach. She attempted to work past it but it was becoming difficult.

  “You okay, mama?” Haleigh noticed that she started to look a little funny. Her question caught the attention of one of the cashiers that was setting up their lunch.

  “You okay, Boss Lady? Want me to turn the air down?”

  Kandice shook her head as she gripped onto the edge of the counter her and Haleigh were working on. She was trying to fight her urge to vomit all over the cakes. The more she inhaled, the worse she started to feel.

  “Maybe you should come sit down, mama. You’ve been working nonstop, you’re probably tired.”

  Kandice reached out to hold Haleigh’s hand as she told her cashier she could go back to the front. With help from Haleigh, Kandice made it to the chair off to the side of the room and put her head down between her knees to alleviate the wave of nausea.

  “Pass me the trashcan, please, Hae.”

  As soon as the trash can was put in front of her, Kandice vomited everything she had eaten for breakfast. The retching turned Haleigh’s stomach but she held her mama’s hair back anyway. Haleigh couldn’t remember the last time she saw her mama this violently ill. Once it had subsided a bit, Haleigh went to the employee fridge to grab her a bottle of water.

  “Mama, are you okay?” She asked quietly.

  “I’m fine, Hae. Just a little overheated is all.”

  “Maybe we should go home so you can lay down. Daddy wouldn’t want you to over do it.”

  Kandice smiled weakly at her baby girl. She was so much like her Daddy till it wasn’t funny. They were both such caring people, if Kandice let them they would wait on her hand and foot every time she got sick.

 “Just let me finish a few things and I’ll let the girls know we’re gonna go. Okay, Hae?”

  Haleigh ended up driving them home after Kandice pulled over twice to throw up off the side of the road. Seeing her mama like that had worried Haleigh so that she called Roman to let him know what was going on. Even though Haleigh let him know that she would take care of her mama, Roman still decided to cut his fishing trip with Koda short. Roman heard his wife throwing up in the background and didn’t want Haleigh there with her alone.

  An hour and half later, Roman came bustling through the door with Koda right behind him. Koda veered off to the living room where Haleigh, he didn’t want to go upstairs if their mom was still sick, He couldn’t handle hearing someone vomiting or seeing it.

  Roman found his wife curled into a ball on his side of the bed, clutching his pillow to her chest. Her eyes were close but he knew she wasn’t sleep. Slowly, he crept to his side of the bed, knelt down and kissed her forehead. Her eyes fluttered open, a small smile on her face.

  “Your baby called you, didn’t she?” Kandice laughed a little at his smirk.

  “You know she did,” he told her smoothly. “I’m glad she did. You don’t look too good, baby. What’s goin’ on?”

  “Just a little nauseous is all. Probably a bug or something, Ro.”

  “I don’t think a bug comes and goes, doll. I’ve been hearin’ you throwin’ up the past few days, you’re eatin’ more than me annnnd,” he sung out with a smile, “You’re a little thicker, baby.”

  She narrowed her eyes at him trying to fight the smile off of her face. “Did you just call me fat, Roman?”

  “I said thick not fat. But even if you were I wouldn’t mind it.”

  “What’re you saying, Ro,” she asked pulling his hand up to rub her head. He sighed, helping her sit up so that he could sit on the bed with her. Kandice laid her head against his chest listening to his steady heartbeat. “I mean I know it didn’t go the way we planned a few years ago, but maybe this time is our time. This is baby number three, the last Reigns baby until Koda has kids.” Roman’s large hand found its way to Kandice’s slight bulge, rubbing tight circles that lulled her to sleep. All he wanted was to give her one more baby like she had asked him.

My ideal day would consist of waking up early (I’ll doubt if I will ever learn how lmao) being in the studio, eat for sure, write, look at Roman and sleep😂
