No Nut November ; LEE FELIX
short lil thang, couldn't help myself lol
no spoilers!! MINORS DNI ⚠⚠
You were both up for the challenge, not that it really mattered to you since you were a girl tho. Felix had suggested the idea being his immature self. And you, being even more immature, agreed.
It was the fifth day of November, five days since the challenge started,
and Felix couldn’t take it anymore.
You and Felix were both pretty sexually active in your relationship, him mainly always taking control and dominating you despite his sunshine type of a personality,
you loved it tho, and to be completely honest you and Felix never went barely over a week without things getting a little heated.
But I guess since privileges were limited, Felix was craving more. Way more.
It started with typical touches throughout the day
back hugs, hand on thigh constantly, and kisses that would last a little longer than usual. Normal right?
until back hugs turned into Felix pressing his bulging erection into your ass.
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
“l-lix, we can’t , the challenge,” you say moaning as he eats you out.
“Who said anything about fucking you pretty?,” the man between your trembling thighs says while holding your hips down so he can eat properly.
♡.﹀﹀﹀﹀.♡
So close to cumming.. so close until that feeling fades away once again. Is this the 5th or 6th time he had edged you that night?, you couldn’t remember anymore. Your sensitive little bud anxious of your release.
your poor cunt.. Felix almost felt bad, until he remembered his restriction of the whole month. He wasn’t gonna lose tho so..
If he can’t cum, neither can you.

more re: Kagepro timeline things because analyzing is fun!
anyway, the main timeframes mentioned in Kagepro tend to be:
“two years ago” / “five years ago” / “ten years ago” -- and then so on and so on
it becomes MUCH EASIER TO UNDERSTAND (CHRONOLOGICALLY) if you "correct” this to “ (ABOUT) [timeframe] ”
i.e. [ABOUT] “ two years ago” - - Ayano jumped off the roof and died (when she was - in her 1st year of high school and, - closer to age 15 per not reaching her later birthday (Nov. 22nd) when the Japanese school year began)
* the Japanese school year begins AROUND APRIL 1ST-2ND and ends around LATE MARCH ** during HaruTaka’s school festival, JUST previous to “two years ago”,
Tumblr media
^ Ayano speaking to Takane, who is A WHOLE FULL GRADE ABOVE AYANO. - Jin in 2013 confirmed Ene was “19″, and Ene specifically was intended to be older than Shintaro. - Haruka is in the same grade as Takane, - BUT HIS BIRTHDAY IS NOT UNTIL DECEMBER 24TH. - Haruka dies before he can reach his birthday, during August 15th. - i.e. he dies closer to age 16. - i.e. in main canon he’s closer to age 18 because Takane is 19. - both Haruka + Takane are confirmed to initially die in their 2nd year of high school. compare to Ayano’s “1st” and it’ll become even more clear with this info.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Ayano was thinking of entering “this [high] school” - “NEXT YEAR” - i.e. she dies in her 1st year of high school, yes. - Shintaro was also entering this school “next year” - but Shintaro is older than Ayano by some months, (i.e. the timeframe gap between April 30 -> November 22nd) (i.e. he’s about 7 months older than her) so, he ages to 18 in main canon [on April 30th] during a time period where Ayano would still be 17 if she was still alive.
- Ayano is confirmed to be a year older/grade above the Mekakushi Trio. - Kano is closest in age to her due to his canon age being 17 -- and his birthday being May 10. - Kido wouldn’t age to 17 until after the main story (August 15) is over; on her birthday, January 2nd. - in main canon, Kido and Seto are still 16 chronologically. - Seto wouldn’t age to 17 until the very end of the Japanese school year. - i.e. right before that, he’s still 16 chronologically. - this is due to his birthday being March 28 -- and older than Momo. - Momo’s powers became even more obvious to her during this time period “two years ago”, as well. (see: all of MCA 02 Momo’s flashbacks)
(when Momo is in middle school, i.e. 8th grade, where she’d have started the grade at 13, NOT 14 * when she is seen in a grey school uniform i.e. during MCA 02, THAT’S HER MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIFORM, NOT A HIGH SCHOOL UNIFORM. in main canon she is in 10th grade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8th grade is confirmed via novel 6, where Momo appears as a middle schooler i.e. correct grade range despite her INCORRECT CONFLICTING AGE)     (thanks Jin)
Tumblr media
^ hey look! it’s younger!Momo in the CORRECT GRADE FOR HER AGE this is at the costume event but yeah ^ hey look! she even has been in the same area as the entire Yuukei Quartet ! much “coincidence” !! - but only properly met i.e. was introduced to, Haruka
(re: “ coincidence ”)
Tumblr media
^ THANKS CLAMP       you may know them via Cardcaptor Sakura
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a more recent mention of this phenomenon via Professor Layton anime [2018]
^ these are other well-known anime/manga series but YEAH
[ABOUT] “ five years ago ” - - Momo drowned in the ocean [it’s even detailed in 2nd Manga Route 2 *** during the “Red” chapters !] (“ lower grades ” of elementary according to one of her oldest profiles - i.e. likely not 6th grade of elementary but closer to 5th)
( *** “[Mr. Kisaragi]’s eldest son has just entered primary school, right?” - even Shintaro’s grade was mentioned here ! ) - Momo received her power
Tumblr media
^ we even see this in “Konoha no Sekai Jijou” pv! (towards the end) ^ this is ELEMENTARY-aged Momo during the drowning incident also:
“ On the other hand, Shintaro was talking to Ayano and Hibiya about
his sister’s power to attract attention back in ELEMENTARY
and that those days when she still couldn’t suppress it was hell (Momo received countless love letters and Shintaro tore them down without mercy).
He later said that he couldn’t stand put having his sister deal with anymore good-for-nothing business. Listening to his story (and determination), Ayano finally decided to tell him [*AND HIBIYA] the story. ”
- Fuyuyuu’s summary of this manga chapter (2nd Manga Route)
from 2012 Disintegration Book: (explained/summarized here) (bolding/italics mine for emphasis)
Momo’s mystery
The only mystery about her that is not revealed yet is
how she got hold of her powers in the past.
What exactly happened during
the beach incident that happened when she was young.
And also what happened to her father who was also involved in it….
That incident’s one scene was shown a bit in Konoha no Sekai Jijou.
[ABOUT] “ ten years ago ” [i.e. a “decade”] - - a “monster” (Wide-Eyed Snake) “spoke” to Kano in Yobanashi Deceive pv
- the Dan estimate that this is when the timeloop began, -- BUT they do not have a full confirmation of this
.........................................................
“this cycle has repeated for DECADES” - -- “Kagerou Daze” song lyrics via Hibiya’s POV [Music Route]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Wannyanpuu’s older fanmade pv circa 2011 may not be full canon BUT THE LYRICS SURE STILL ARE CANON
“ I’D REALIZED THAT A LONG TIME AGO. ”
- HIBIYA - ( SPECIFICALLY HIBIYA )
JIN, PROBABLY:
  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ Ayano asked when the snake entered Hibiya’s body,
to which [Saeru/Clearing] answered from the VERY START,
long before he killed “Concealing Eyes” [Kido]
and MET AYANO . ”
“ He continued that this body [*Hibiya]’s was a “miss”.
It was good that the boy [*Hibiya] who DIDN’T HAVE ANY WISH
began to have a desire to “save the girl”, but it was a little bit immature.
Regardless that the snake was a being that eats up “desire”, that wish causes him a sour stomach. ”
- Additional Memory
“ AYANO ASKED WHEN THE SNAKE ENTERED HIBIYA’S BODY
“ FROM THE VERY START, LONG BEFORE HE KILLED CONCEALING EYES AND    MET AYANO ”

Forensic Analysis of Ice Rock Mining 2nd ICO (Rock2) Is it a scam? Read to find out...
Note: the following is not investment advice, just my opinion, and like any investment, never invest more than you are willing to lose. Ice Rock Mining offer an opportunity to invest in cryptocurrency mining, using their unique low cost setup. They mine bitcoin/altcoins in a old soviet bunker cave built inside a mountain, which maintains an average temperature of 10-12C all year round (so cooling costs are minimal), has very cheap electricity ($0.03 per kWh), and they own the cave so there is no rent to pay. Main benefits: Current return on investment (ROI) rate of 20% per month (can go up/down). Note that the calculator on their website does not reflect the current rate of return as it was programmed when the price of bitcoin was higher. Passive income (just sit back and enjoy the profits) Lifetime contract 50% share of profit, and they reinvest 20% back into mining equipment, thus gradually increase their mining power and your profit share. If you want, you can sell your investment share/tokens in the future Please see their website for further information. ########## Short summary: If you do not have time to read what follows, my conclusion is that they are NOT a scam. If you appreciate the many many hours I put into this research, then please share this and signup to Ice Rock Mining using my referral link, so we can profit together: https://ico.icerockmining.io/Account/Register?stcRef=f93764e6-ceae-4c0d-ab61-9435566e6896 Also those who sign up using my referral link will have access to future forensic analysis reports, so we can make more good investments together. Enjoy! ##########
I first came across Ice Rock Mining via a video advert. It sounded interesting but too good to be true so I decided to examine their website. If I was going to invest my money I had to be sure these guys were legit, so I did A LOT of research. The following is just a sample of the pertinent information from my forensic analysis (evidenced links included).
What did I study? I read their entire website, checked all documents contained on it, examined all associated links from their website, watched every video about ice rock mining on youtube and comments, read all forum posts about them I could find, and their social network posts (e.g. twitter, facebook etc), joined and observed their telegram group for a few weeks, contacted them using various ways, and messaged various people who talked about them in the early days from their first ICO.
Who is the owner? The domain name icerockmining.io is registered by Malik Murzashev (CEO, DOB: 7th June 1987) on 14th Aug 2017 until 14th Aug 2018 [reference]. The short domain registration length is a small concern but this is not uncommon among companies, as it can simply be renewed in future. It is hosted on a server hosting another two organizations, one about political asylum in the USA (which may or may not be related to Malik), and an audit firm which is linked to Malik, registered 27th Nov 2014. This latter domain registration also contains the registrant address [reference]. The audit firm website also contains several official state registration and license certificates. In their youtube videos it is mentioned Malik owns an Apples store (selling technology products and Apple products),  domain registered on 9th Feb 2008 till present [reference]. This is true and is a long established business with much past activity on google, facebook, twitter etc. This is a VERY good sign of legitimacy.
Where are they located? They provide the co-ordinates of their cave on their website (43.879891, 76.326797). Google maps link // Bing maps link (zoom in on map to inspect) When the maps are analyzed with the following three of their youtube videos (link 1, link 2, link 3), you will note they seem to match. The path taken and location of the cave is shown below:
Tumblr media
You can also see lots of pictures of the cave and surrounding area HERE, before ice rock mining converted it. You will also note from their youtube videos of the cave, they show clear progress in its development which is a good sign. They have clearly been working on it for a while. They also offer visitors the chance to visit their cave if arranged beforehand (you can see a video here where investor, and now also their PR manager, Amir Ness visits them). I was able to confirm Amir Ness did speak at the Planet Blockchain conference in Dubai on Sat. 30th Jan 2018 about ice rock mining [reference]. Ice Rock Mining office address: office 79, 49 hajimukana almaty (the owners of this building can be found HERE). You will note from their office video it is a loft style office and the total number of rooms in the building is 80, suggesting that 79 would be at the top, making it fit. TEL:  +7 707 303 0310
What is the feedback from investors from their first ICO? (which they used to provide mining contracts only, not like this current 2nd ICO) 1) I did not find evidence of them not paying out on mining contracts from their first ico (which began with a few days delay in late December 2017). I also did not find any evidence posted by those claiming it is a scam. Simply the claim "scam". However, there did seem to be evidence of some disgruntled investors who missed out on the mining contracts of their choice from the first ico, and having to wait until the next batch of miners to be delivered to begin mining. I imagine it would be difficult to predict demand for each type of mining in advance, so this issue is pretty understandable. 2) There also did seem to be evidence of some unhappy investors from their first ico Ice rock mining who were promised a buyback of $2 for every rock1 token, on Feb 1st 2018, as this was delayed to Feb 5th, and the buyback was done under market economics, meaning they bought back rock1 tokens from whoever offered the lowest rates first up until $2 (e.g. if someone offered them at $1.70 they would buyback these first before buying those priced higher up until $2, until their monthly buyback funds were depleted). The next buyback will be on March 1st 2pm GMT+6 on etherdelta. 3) Crucially, there was evidence of investors who were critical of them at first due to the above but after the buyback took place were happy, indicating the buyback did happen. [Some references for the above: one, two, three, four, five]
Are they and will they payout to investors? The critical question!
Ice rock mining released a report about their current mining operation (end of Dec to end of Jan). In it, it says the amount available for the 2pm Feb 5th 2018 GMT+6 buyback is $34,096 USD. I visited the etherdelta exchange before the buyback was set to begin and took a screenshot of the Rock1 sell trades, shown below.
Tumblr media
The following calculations are estimates only: Total number of Rock removed/bought = 554+6292+3000+91.124+1000+1427+1090 = 13454.124 Approx cost of Rock tokens bought in ETH = 0.9029646+10.2553308+6+0.1913604+2.199999+3.1394+2.398 = 25.0870548 Approx cost of Rock tokens bought in USD = 25.0870548*~810 = ~$20,320.51 (does not include transactions fees) Estimated shortfall = 34,096 - 20,320 = $13,776 USD Etherscan analysis suggests Ice Rock Mining used this account for the buyback (not possible to confirm): https://etherscan.io/address/0xffad7c4f9a7ddf47083084c5a566e4650e4d019a (shows 41.999 ETH was transferred to etherdelta, with approx value of 41.999*~810 = $34,019.19) This amount roughly matches their buyback funds stated above. Without evaluating the etherdelta Rock token trade logs it is not possible to confirm exact figures. The above account is linked to the following accounts which show a healthy balance of funds: https://etherscan.io/address/0x08137fa7438895145d03bea510b804ac762f6cdb https://etherscan.io/address/0x4c6bd07a7ed9657576c35e68e99b05f90938f4db https://etherscan.io/address/0x50db3cbbc83790ffc4741edad06b2a4bea26749a The results indicate the buyback did occur, however more transparency is needed from Ice Rock Mining to confirm the amounts.
Final Notes In case anyone thinks I work on behalf of Ice Rock Mining, I will now outline what I regard as some of the potential future issues: 1) their electricity contract price is for approx. 5 years, after which they will have to negotiate again for a new one. This could increase their costs. 2) bitcoin price seems to be on a short term downward trend but long term upward trend, thus the ROI stated in their website calculator (which does not use the current bitcoin price) will likely be lower for the short term. Unfortunately, startups have a tendency to overstate and under deliver sometimes. 3) their company structure is not simple. The ICO is apparently being managed by Woodland Networks L.P. which is registered in Northern Ireland. Which was setup by KINTARO SOLUTIONS LLP (Nothern Ireland), Bondwest AG and Entervox AG based in the Marshall islands. Original registrant seems to be Askar Karimov. Elaborate company setups are not uncommon among larger companies, with the most common reasons being for tax efficiency purposes and privacy [see their explanation here]. They do seem to be open about information most of the time, which is a good sign. 4) going forward, auditing of mining and buyback payments should be improved, ideally by an independent 3rd party 5) they have stated if the cave reaches full capacity (5000 ASICS to mine bitcoin) they will expand to an outside building but this may be less efficient, i.e. require building, more cooling and security, compared to the setup inside the cave.
##########
Conclusion The strongest positive evidence is that they are who they say they are, and they are where they say they are located. The teething problems experienced by them in their first ICO were minor and to be expected from a startup. They certainly have room for improvement however.
I give them a forensic analysis score of 4/5, which is above average.
If you appreciate the many many hours I put into this research, then please share this forensic analysis report and signup to Ice Rock Mining using my referral link, so we can profit together: https://ico.icerockmining.io/Account/Register?stcRef=f93764e6-ceae-4c0d-ab61-9435566e6896 Also those who sign up using my referral link will have access to future forensic analysis reports, so we can make good investments decisions together. Bespoken For
@se-rarepair-day -- check it out my homie and consider partaking! I wrote this one for mahself and for my tsukid needs ;D fashionable aus are my jam
Nov 2017 Prompt: Tasteful
He was due for another fitting, entering the boutique just on time for his appointment. While Kid’s secretary was always one who urged him to be earlier for any pre-scheduled, that phrase about how being fifteen minutes early meant on-time, he’d much rather be at leisure. He didn’t even see his regular person when he walked in. All the more reason to not be unnecessarily timely.
Sitting by the window, he picked up a magazine that they had spread on the coffee table, reading for another five minutes before he was finally called in by the person at the front desk. But he took the copy of Cosmopolitan in with him, all too knowing that his stylist would take another moment to set up and finish her last client. Setting his suit on the rack on the side, then making himself comfortable on his usual chair, he flipped page after page. It was only when the curtain slid open that he got up from his seat to greet Bella.
It wasn’t her who he saw. Rather, it was another tall woman, dark hair tucked in a bun and pins stuck in her sleeves. She came in first, then Kid’s usual person. They were both in uniform, though one looked newer than the other, so he was unsure of why there was a need for an assistant that day.
His question was immediately answered after Bella greeted him, introducing the new trainee as a promising girl close to his age. Tsubaki extended her hand out for a polite shake, entertaining a “how do you do” before setting down her supplies next to her new manager’s. Moving carefully, orienting herself around her bag, she drew out a couple of more pins and measuring tools as Bella took a moment to talk to Kid privately.
“Tsu is freshly out of school. You’ll be nice to her, won’t you?”
He frowned, “I’ll do no such thing unless it’s warranted.”
“Oh, it will be. She’s skilled. Worked in other shops as an intern before. Using this place as a springboard to make it as a designer.” Bella clucked her tongue. “She’s an ambitious one.”
Eyes trailing after her, Kid said, “You know I don’t like most of your employees.”
“But she’s different,” Bella assured. “Girl’s got a good head on her shoulders, and besides, you only disliked Mels and Betty because they chattered and couldn’t keep a seam straight.”
“And what does that say about their competence?”
“Touche. Still, I’m hoping that Tsu will become your more permanent associate.”
He sighed, resigning to the logic that it was only a matter of time until Bella became too busy to attend to him. As his father’s friend, she made a special exception to Kid and worked on his suits herself. Lately however, she’d been working on new contract deals and campaigns along with another new line of casual slacks, leaving close to no time to meet up with Kid for his appointments.
There’d better be some hope with Tsubaki, especially since both Kid and Bella couldn’t afford to look for another tailor.
At the beginning of the session with Kid dressed up from head to toe, Tsubaki had already caught the looseness of the upper arms, attention trained on the area as she told Kid as such. She waited for his consent before reaching to measure around his bicep, poking at his arm with her fingers and testing out the material of his suit. Expert hands slid new pins into the place of old ones, managing to keep away from ever grazing the dress shirt under his coat. And following some of the most obvious alterations that she could see immediately, she ran through every major point, as if following a comprehensive list from memory, just to see if there were any spots that she’d missed. Kid lifted his arms when directed, holding his hands behind his back, lifting his knees to be on par with his waist, never needing to stay in an uncomfortable position for too long thanks to Tsubaki’s quick judgement.
It was half way through when Kid noticed that Bella had already slipped out of the room, shocked that a trainee was left alone with a customer. But by this time, Kid knew that he already had trust in her skills, and in Bella’s judgment. Tsubaki didn’t seem to need any extra instructions, gliding across the room as she examined a spot in every angle. So Bella was right; Tsubaki was perhaps a little different than the others.
Kid especially thought so when she asked him how his inner knee felt.
If all went well, this would have been the last day that the suit needed before becoming complete. He walked around the room for a moment longer until Bella came back in, drawing a smile from Tsubaki whose expression hadn’t changed much at all through the process. She took only a glance at Kid before praising Tsubaki heavily, beaming and ushering her around Kid, noting particular places that she was most proud of.
“The only thing is the waist. Wouldn’t it look better a tad tighter?”
Tsubaki tapped her chin, “I thought so at first until I considered the nature of the clothes themselves,” briefly going into an explanation.
And in mid sentence, Bella reached to squeeze both of her cheeks, cooing. “Oh, how right you think you are! Tighten it, dear. A couple of more years in this industry and you’ll see that you can’t always rely on textile chemistry to make clothes look good. A good attempt, sugar!”
Kid looked away from Tsubaki’s small pout, getting back onto the platform and lifting his arms until there was enough space for her to fit.
Through the following months, he visited the boutique scarcely. There were very few moments where he found a need for it; a split crotch and favors from his father were his main drive. During each time, he was referred to Tsubaki who had quickly become a mix of both an errand girl and someone who undergo all the sudden and strange tasks that customers walked in for. It was almost like a hazing event, to see if the girl was up to the task and could handle what the store threw in her face.
She was more than eager to complete each task, as a good employee should. Though she stumbled through some rather ineloquently, Kid could see a visible difference between his visits. Day 1 to day 100 showed a stark difference in not only her work but also how open she became to her customers and her team. Tsubaki learned to smile from her heart, to lend a genuine hand and hold meaningful conversation with others. The boutique wasn’t meant to be a mere stop for clothes, but to also be a familiar place that people could come to; that was the sort of world that Bella wanted to share.
Eventually, though some miracle of networking and short notice emergencies, Kid and Tsubaki began to meet up outside of the shop, starting with a rush job in a women’s bathroom stall. After the initial favor, Kid didn’t believe that her good nature and generous attitude should’ve gone unrewarded. All things would come to have an equal exchange, just how the world of business and chemistry worked out, so he wanted to take fate into his own hands and decided that their next interaction wouldn’t be that of a frantic text, but with something else.
Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have time for that until a couple of weeks later, after a series of back luck, or good, pulled Tsubaki back into action and saving his little accidents time and time again. A clumsy lady and spilt wine that required an immediate dress shirt change. A careless assistant during an intermission. An actual intentional cut with angry scissors that ran down his arm during the break of one of the most important meetings of the seasons. Each time Tsubaki was messaged, no matter how cryptic and deadpan the text read, she came through for Kid.
It was customary for him to make thank you calls and to show gratitude through small cards or emails, but it was strange for him to reach out to another person outside of work. Sending Tsubaki a text with a friendly intent was hard enough to draft-- a call would have been too intimate he thought-- and to send it took more courage than he thought was needed. Luckily for him, a mistaken flick of his thumb caused the screen to scroll up, and his brush with the last three instances of shame could be seen on screen.
The most recent was the most strange of the bunch.
“Nor on 5th. 1905. Bk jacket & f aid.”
“Omw,” was her answer.
And how happy was he to see her arrive with bandages, a new suit jacket, and even a fresh tie in 9 and a half minutes flat. She strode over to where Kid was huddled in the empty conference room, clearing the distance in no time at all. Handing off the clothes to a chair, she tended to his bloody arm and listened to his indignant muttering about how he would ruin FrekTel Inc, mark his words. Any company that would hire an associate who got physical after a failed business deal wasn’t going to last.
“She flew right off the handle. Grabbed fucking scissors from god knows where. Ripped a line right through my only Hilburn. Good ol’ Hilburn!”
Tsubaki’s eyes flicked to his. “It might be for the better. Perhaps give Kent Wang a try?”
“You’re not suppose to be promoting other businesses.”
“Bella’s son ordered from them last month, and even she said they were reputable for a reason.”
“Was that before or after she cussed Jeffery out?”
She smiled, “After.”
All of those jokes aside, her presence was a blessing, and her taste for clothes just the same. She deserved more than a hasty thanks and promises to be more careful the next time around. Kid sent along the message after one more bit of hesitation, rereading it for errors and to make sure that his point was conveyed correctly. The worst that could happen was that his invitation could be ignored or declined, he thought.
But luckily for him, her response came as quick as ever.
They set their calendars for the next available time that coincided, formalities dropping once the second invitation was extended. Eventually, they worked their way up to restful coffee breaks during lunch. When an afternoon at one of Tsubaki’s favorite brunch places further revealed her love for breakfast foods, Sundays became their new default meetup times with scattered lunch spots in between the week.
“I’ll get the bill next time” became “who’s turn is it?” And “how was your day” became “you won’t believe what happened yesterday.”
Soon enough, secrets of his trade and hers were revealed. Then came their own, careful and shy. Once that window was open, their trust in one another grew in ways that they hadn’t expected, knowing in their hearts that they’d found a kindred soul to share their stories with.
TBC; Part 2 coming

NEW YORK
14 Nov 2019 (Thu) – I was invited to participate in the Veteran’s Day ceremony on November 11th with the American Legion post.  We went to two sites to perform a formal ceremony then held a public ceremony at the Veterans Park next to town hall.  About 50 people showed up; mostly veterans.  There was a young man from the high school who sang the National Anthem that had the most beautiful, angelic voice.  After the ceremony, everyone was invited to the Post for hot dogs and hamburgers.
On Wednesday, November 13th, members of the Post were invited to the local schools. First, we went to the high school and participated in a panel.  We each described our service experience but ran out of time for questions from the kids. The students all came in with jackets and back packs which made me think they were getting off the bus and immediately directed to the auditorium.
After an hour at the high school, we went to the Maud Sherwood elementary school. We were directed to the end of a long hallway while the students (grades 2 through 5) lined up along the walls. Then we walked down the hall with the kids clapping, waving flags, and giving us high fives.  I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.  It was great!  We had a continental breakfast (courtesy of the PTA), then we split up into groups of three (there were nine of us there), and we went into 5th grade classrooms to talk with the kids.  They had prepared questions followed by freewheeling questions.  Some were very insightful.  The day was quite delightful.
Following the school, I went directly to Toast Coffeehouse in Patchogue to meet my sister, Susan, for lunch.  The food in that place is awesome! We had a very pleasant visit and said our goodbyes.  She invited me to stay with her when I come back to New York for a checkup.
At 6:00 p.m., we had Miranda, Kenny, and Caiden come over for a Thanksgiving dinner. Since we won’t be here on Thanksgiving Day, we took an opportunity to celebrate together early.  The food and company were all very nice.  Caiden is such a delightful little boy.
Today, I had a visit with the oncologist.  I took a CT scan on Tuesday and this visit was to find out the results. It was great news!  Many of the lymph nodes are half their size now.  I am responding beautifully to the chemotherapy.  The nurse did a nose swab because I said I thought I had something brewing.  They wanted to make sure I don’t have the flu or pneumonia.  The doctor then gave me three months before coming back for a checkup. Woohoo!!!  We are cleared to hit the road!
9 Nov 2019 (Sat) – We took Caiden and a friend to an amusement area today. We wanted to take him to BounceU in Nesconset but when we arrived, they had birthday parties going on and no open play. So we drove another half hour to Huntington only to discover we were in the wrong town.  After a total of about an hour’s driving time with two very impatient six years olds in the back seat, we arrived at @Play Adventures in Farmingdale. It was a delightful afternoon for the boys – three hours of bounces, rides, and games.  Afterward, we stopped at McDonald’s for lunch.  The boys had a great time.
Miranda’s best friend’s grandmother passed away.  She had the funeral and lunch this morning (hence, we were watching Caiden).  Later, she went back to the house for a memorial dinner with the family.  I went back into the house to watch Caiden until she and Kenny got back home.
Yesterday, we went shopping at Kohl’s.  They were advertising 30% discount for veterans.  We spent too much money and it turned out that some items were not eligible for the discount.  Apparently, the manufacturer tells the store they can’t discount their products. Somehow, that seems dishonest. Kohl’s advertises taking the discount but then doesn’t do it.  We bought a new toaster oven with 11 functions (will I really ever use all of them?) that was advertised at $249.99.  The clerk rang it up at $349.99 at the register.  We had to go to customer service for the correction and it turned out we bought the Pro, with was $100 more.  AND there was no 30% discount on it!!
6 November 2019 (Wed – Paul’s Birthday) – It’s been a busy week.  We saw a lawyer to have our wills updated.  She gave us homework to do – lol.  It is hard to decide who your health care proxy and power of attorney should be.  Doing a will is an eye-opening event.  It makes you face your mortality.  Ugh.
The American Legion post hosted their annual Law & Order dinner.  They honored firemen, two harbormasters, and a police officer who pulled a car off the train tracks minutes before a train rolled through.  One of the firemen was honored for 70 years of service as a volunteer fire fighter with Islip.  It turned out that he was Paul’s cousin! He knew Paul’s mother in high school and served with Paul’s grandfather in the department (his grandfather was a fire chief).  We exchanged information and promised to look each other up this winter when we are down in Florida.
I took my laptop to Best Buy for tweaking. The tech did not find any viruses.  I saw a gastroenterologist on Monday and had a mammogram on Wednesday.  I took Paul to the Irish Coffee Pub for his birthday. They make the very best potato soup anywhere.
31 October 2019 (Thu - HALLOWEEN) – I had lunch with my daughter, Gina, on Tuesday.  We went to a place called Tula’s Kitchen.  It’s one of those very eclectic health food restaurants that are popping up all over the country.  The food was quite good.  On Wednesday, I had lunch with my sister, Susan.  We went to another eclectic place called Tiger Lily.  Again, the food was very good.
We had Angel Fence Company come by and we signed a contract for a fence installation along the back of the property.  This it to replace the fence that was damaged during the thunderstorm that rolled through in August.  I sent the estimate to USAA and they already paid off on it – BEFORE we had the work done. I sent a note reminding them it was an estimate and it could wind up costing more depending on what they find when they do the actual installation.
I spent over two and half hours on the phone in the last two days with Carbonite.  It is a cloud storage service where they back up our computer to the cloud.  When my computer was reset, we lost the program. It would not reinstall properly and I had to get techs to work on the problem.  Apparently, it wasn’t such an easy fix but they finally got it done.
Today, Paul and I went to the movies to see “The Current Wars.”  It was about the competition among Nikola Tesla, George Westinghouse, and Thomas Edison.  The movie was very interesting and we would highly recommend it.
27 October 2019 (Sun) – It was a busy week.  I watched Lincoln two days this week so Sam could get some extra time in at work.  He is such a pleasant baby.  Always smiling.  Travis started his new job on Wednesday.  Hope it goes well for him.  Also on Wednesday, we went to the ophthalmologist for eye exams.  Paul and I both tested out at 20/25.  The doctor saw some pressure behind my left eye and wants me back in six months.  I’ll see if I can align an appointment with a Sloan Kettering checkup down the road.
We went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant with friends from the American Legion on Wednesday.  Then we went to dinner at Carrabba’s on Friday with my brother, Dennis, and his lady, Denise.  We had planned to meet them at their apartment before going to dinner but the plans changed.  Dennis & Denise recently moved into their new place and we still want to see it.
We took Travis and the family to a pumpkin farm yesterday.  It was a small farm but not very busy considering this is the last weekend before Halloween.  They had a play area with bouncy houses and lots of pumpkins to choose from.  There was also a hay ride and a pony taking kids for a ride.
We went to church this morning.  It was laity Sunday so the service was run by the lay leader. Several of us took part in the service doing readings and leading prayer.  I gave a five minute sermon.  It was a nice service.
21 October 2019 (Mon) – I went to the audiologist at the Northport VA on the 18th.  The doctor found a mild hearing loss in my right ear and a moderate hearing loss in my left ear.  She said it was unusual to have a greater loss in one ear over the other and that I needed to see a doctor to be sure there was not a medical reason for the difference.  She offered to make an appointment at the VA but said I probably wouldn’t get an appointment for two or three months.  We agreed that I would go to a civilian doctor because I could get an appointment sooner.  In the meantime, she would order one hearing aid for my left ear (she said I don’t need one for the right ear).  She also gave me information to download an app for the hearing aid onto my iPhone.
I saw a civilian audiologist yesterday.  He insisted on giving me another hearing test.  The results were more symmetrical and he cleared me for the hearing aid.  He suggested I get aids for both ears; the VA doctor refuses to do that.  If I bought the hearing aids at the civilian audiology office, it would cost me $6,000.  Actually, $3,000.  My insurance would pay $3,000 toward the cost.  If I got the hearing aids at the VA, it will cost me nothing.  Guess what I’m doing?
Miranda and Kenny went to Philly for the weekend and we watched Caiden. We took him to Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns at Old Westbury Gardens on Friday.  They carve 5,000 pumpkins every week for six weeks.  Visitors walk down a trail lined with thousands of pumpkins on display along the walkway.  Several pumpkins had projections that had them singing Halloween songs.  The craftsmanship was simply amazing!
Tumblr media
On Saturday, we went over to the American Legion Hall where we met Samantha and her mother, Sharon.  Together, we set up tables and arranged everything for Lincoln’s baptism party the next day.  On Sunday, Lincoln Alexander Thomas was baptized.  Afterward, we enjoyed a party at the legion hall.  Lincoln was SO good.  He smiled and laughed all day and then just quietly went to sleep in my arms. Not one little tear or fuss escaped him all day.
Tumblr media
16 October 2019 (Weds) – Another visit to the doctor brought mixed results.  The bloodwork continues to show a decrease in the cancer cells.  However, I am having some adverse effects from the chemo.  I have a rash on my leg and a drying out of my fingertips.  Neuropathy and cellulitis are common side effects.  The doctor told me to stop the Imbruvica for 3 days.  If the rash hasn’t improved, stay off the medication for 5 days. If there is still no improvement, I have to go back and have him treat me topically.  I’ve been doing so well that I find this to be something of a disappointment.  The rash has been getting better so that keeps me hopeful.
My birthday was on Monday (October 14) and Paul took me to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner.  I took a picture with a margarita at an angle that made the drink look very large.  We have kind of developed a reputation with the margaritas and now find we have to post pictures of these drinks.  It’s kind of funny.
We are still waiting for the guy behind us to take down two trees that threaten our property.  Three fence companies have given us quotes for a new fence but we won’t do anything until those trees are taken down.  A good windstorm will blow them down and damage the new fence.  We’ll have to go over there for a third time to ask them to take down those trees.  I don’t want to get into sending registered letters threatening legal action like the insurance company is suggesting we do.  Paul thinks the neighbor just can’t afford to pay for a tree removal.  Hmmmm,  what to do. What to do?
13 October 2019 (Sun) - We took Caiden to church with us today. Afterward, Paul worked with a crew to take apart a piano that needed to be thrown out.  Jan has been advertising the piano for free to anyone but no one has claimed it so it was time to just throw it out.  Caiden and I played in the nursery area until they were finished.
Tumblr media
It was not a good day for me.  I woke feeling exhausted and nauseous.  At 3:00 p.m., Paul spelled me for an hour and I took a nap.  That was probably one of the best naps I have ever had. I really needed that!  After I woke, I made dinner then took Caiden into the house and gave him a bath.
On Friday, we went to an optometrist for eye exams.  I got annoyed with the whole thing.  The doctor was pushy and it seemed like his equipment was rigged so he could do more tests.  You cover one eye, stare at a red spot, and click a switch every time you see a green light.  Everything went fine with the left eye covered.  But when he covered my right eye, I couldn’t really see the red spot. It was faded and disappeared a lot so I just looked around and clicked on the green lights.  When the doctor came back to the room, I said he couldn’t trust the test because I couldn’t see the red light.  He told me not to worry about it.  That didn’t seem right at all.  When I checked with Paul about his test, he had the same experience.  We said we would wait on glasses and left. We won’t go back to him.  I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
10 October 2019 (Thu) – Paul got the heater fixed.  That’s good because the weather has been cool – in the 40s at night.
I had an appointment at the VA today.  It is basically a perfunctory checkup.  The doctor knows I am being treated at Sloan Kettering and really just want a backup with the VA in the event I have trouble getting my medication.  She is a very pleasant doctor and completely understands my motivations.  She did make an appointment for me to see someone in dermatology.  I have a small spot on my bottom lip that I thought was chapped lips.  But it has been there a couple of months and now has started to change color.  My sister was just diagnosed with skin cancer and that made me think I should probably get my lip checked out.
After the VA, I met my sister, Susan, and her daughter, Shay, for lunch at Tula Kitchen.  It is an eclectic restaurant with vegetarian dishes that are very different.  Susan, her husband, Bill, Shay and her boyfriend, Pat, just returned from a trip to Scandinavia.  Susan’s friend, Ronnie, passed away and left Susan and Bill to handle his affairs. Ronnie’s body was cremated and they took the ashes to Sweden where Ronnie was born.  After Sweden, they went to Norway and Iceland.  It was a great trip.
Travis lost his job.  He has had such rotten luck with work.  Hope he finds a new one quickly.  They are in the middle of having their mortgage modified and this will certainly have an impact.  Lincoln will be baptized on October 20.  I coordinated with the American Legion Post to have a party there after the christening. The commander initially told me I had to pay $300.  When I told him commanders (past and present) were allowed one free rental a year and a second at half price when I was commander, he relented and will let us use the hall at no charge.  That was very nice of him.  We coordinated times to open the building.
8 October 2019 (Tue) – We took Caiden to church with us on Sunday. It was a pretty busy day with him. His father worked from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  I gave Caiden his bath, read his books, and sang some songs.  He didn’t want to eat steak for dinner.  When I told him that was it for the night.  He didn’t have to eat it but there wouldn’t be anything else. We then went about eating and quietly watched while he ate his steak and a piece of potato.  It was amusing to watch the quiet surrender.
Kenny was home on Monday so we did not watch Caiden but we did have them come in for dinner.  We had burgers, fries, and corn.  Caiden ate about half his burger, some fries, and made a token effort at the corn then was done.  I gave him chocolate ice cream for dessert.  That sure pumped him up! The sugar rush kept him running back and forth for an hour.
Today, Kenny worked from 10 to 4.  Paul and I ran some errands.  I picked Kenny up at 4:15 and Paul got Caiden from the bus.  At 5 p.m., Paul and I went down to the church to help clean up after the yard sale.  There were several pieces of furniture (desks, dressers, couches, loveseats) left over that we had to break up and put in the dumpster.  Several of us turned out for the job and it took just over an hour to get it all done.
5 October 2019 (Sat) – We returned to New York on September 30 from the SMART National Muster in Urbanna, VA.  We stopped two nights in Washington, D.C. staying on Joint Base Andrews AFB.  The campground certainly could use some TLC.  Everything is run down and looking worn.  It seems weird that they would let it look like that since the President’s plane is kept there.  You’d think since it was a flagship airfield that they would keep it up better.  Paul thinks the only reason Andrews AFB is kept open is because it’s close to D.C.
Well, I goofed big time.  I was trying to update our travel journal and I got an error message from the computer.  I inadvertently clicked on a RESET button and the computer reset itself back to its default mode.  All the programs and apps that we have loaded on the computer since we bought it six years ago were wiped off.  The version of Word that I have using (Word 2010) was removed and a docx file replaced it. That updated version would not open the older version.  Ugh. Poor Paul has spent hours reloading all those lost programs.  At least when the computer reset itself, it made a list of all those programs that were removed.  There is a list to follow in reestablishing the programs.
Miranda is in Maine this week.  We have been driving Kenny back and forth to work and watching Caiden in between work and school.  He is a very energetic little boy!
The church had a yard sale yesterday.  The weather was beautiful and there were yard sales all over town.  I drove down Brook Street (a small back street that cuts between two main roads) and there were four yard sales on that street alone.  It was a long day.  We went down to the church at 8 am and helped set up, then helped with the fair all day until it ended at 3 pm.  I picked Caiden up at noon and he enjoyed visiting at the fair.  At the end of the fair, all the stuff that didn’t sell went into the dumpster.  It was awful! We were throwing new or barely used items away – CDs, DVDs, glassware, toys, games, electronics, furniture, everything!  It all went into the garbage.  It sure seemed like all that stuff could have gone somewhere.  Oh, well.

KEELEY: MARINERS WEEKLY: A MEMORABLE FIRST SEASON
Tumblr media
BY: Michael Keeley, Maine Mariners  PORTLAND, ME – The inaugural season of Maine Mariners hockey ended fittingly with a shootout victory on Sunday afternoon as the Mariners defeated the Newfoundland Growlers in front of a crowd of over 3400 at the Cross Insurance Arena. The first season of ECHL Mariners hockey saw the team finish with a 37-32-2-1 record, placing 6th in an ultra-competitive North Division. The Mariners were the only non-playoff team in the ECHL with more wins than losses. They had a remarkable 13-2-1 extra time (overtime or shootout) record, including 7-1 in shootouts, providing more than their fair share of dramatics over a memorable inaugural campaign. The final 2018-19 edition of Mariners Weekly will take a comprehensive look back at the season that was. SLOW START While many fans will rightfully point to the season opener, and the return of pro hockey to Portland as their favorite moment of the season, a 6-3 loss to the Adirondack Thunder kicked off an 0-3-0-0 start to 2018-19. After struggles in net by both Brandon Halverson and Chris Nell, it was rookie Connor LaCouvee who rose to the surface, earning Maine’s first franchise win on Oct. 21st, when he made 32 saves to beat Newfoundland, 4-2. LaCouvee defeated Manchester three days later to pull the Mariners back to a 2-3-0-0 record, but they dropped road games to Manchester and Adirondack, finishing October just 2-5-0-0. REMEMBER NOVEMBER The Mariners got their first road win on November 7th at Reading, the first of what would be a four-game win streak to get them on track. Shawn St-Amant scored a memorable overtime goal on Nov. 9th at Worcester, skating straight off the ice after putting in the game-winner. The following night, in front of over 5,000 fans for Marvel Super Hero™ and Military Appreciation Night, Michael McNicholas’ first professional goal was the game winner, sparking what would be a terrific rookie season for the former UNH forward. Up through and past Thanksgiving, the only hiccup was a 3-0 loss in Brampton on Nov. 16th. From Nov. 2nd through Nov. 28th, the Mariners had points in 8 of 9 games, bringing their record to 9-6-0-1 heading into the final game of the month, a 4-2 loss to Worcester, which snapped a 7 game home point streak. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the month was Ty Ronning’s five-point third period on Nov. 24th against Manchester, helping the Mariners rally back from a 4-1 deficit in the third period to a 6-4 win. That same night was the Teddy Bear Toss, Riley Bourbonnais scoring the fur-flying goal. HAPPY HOLIDAYS Although they lost two of the first three games in December, the Mariners had another strong month, winning 8 of 10 between Dec. 7th and 29th. Along the way were three shootout wins (12/7 vs. ADK, 12/15 @ WOR, 12/28 vs. WOR), paving the way for the team’s knack for finding a way to win in the clutch. Brandon Halverson continued his emergence as the true #1 in between the pipes & the goal-scoring combination of Alex Kile and Morgan Adams-Moisan paced the offense. On December 14th, the Mariners acquired Greg Chase from Allen in exchange for Bourbonnais, the headliner of many transactions that would change the look of the team over the proceeding months. The Mariners entered New Year’s Eve on a six-game win streak, with an 18-11-0-1 record, and in third place in the North Division. JANUARY SWOON When the Mariners look back on their missing of the playoffs, it is their month of January that they’ll see did them in. Manchester ended their win streak on New Year’s Eve and sent them into a spiral in which they’d drop 13 of 17 games overall. They did get a win over Brampton on “Throwback Night,” while wearing original Mariners uniforms in front of over 4700 in attendance on January 5th, but wins were hard to come by for the rest of the month.  Leading scorer Alex Kile was loaned to AHL Laval where he’d stay for the rest of the season. Terrence Wallin, Morgan Adams-Moisan, Ryan Culkin, Zach Tolkinen, and others were all shuttling back and forth throughout the month. Dillan Fox, an SPHL pickup from Roanoke, would eventually fill a lot of the holes left behind on offense, but he didn’t begin to produce until the end of the month. The slump carried into early February, when the Mariners were embarrassed on home ice during the weekend of February 8th and 9th, losing non-divisional games by 8-1 and 8-2 scores to Cincinnati and Greenville, respectively. While it felt like rock-bottom, those losses would wake the Mariners up, for one last potential push for the playoffs. ROAD WARRIORS The Mariners embarked on a road swing that would take them away from the Cross Insurance Arena for eight of nine games from late February into early March. Before leaving, they managed to get two key home wins on February 10th and 13th to rebound from the Cincinnati and Greenville debacles. The game on Feb. 13th featured yet another improbable third-period comeback – the Mariners once again rallying from 4-1 down to cap the comeback on Brycen Martin’s overtime winner. The road trip began with four consecutive wins: a sweep at Norfolk and victories in Reading and Adirondack. Two more OT heroic moments included: Michael McNicholas and Terrence Wallin (against his former team). Manchester once again played streak stopper on Feb. 23rd, but another seven-game point streak followed, including taking 5 of 6 possible points on the road in Utah. A shootout win over the Grizzlies on March 1st marked the team’s 10th consecutive win in OT or shootout games. After home wins over Norfolk and South Carolina marked their return to Portland, Maine was solidly back in third place, with 12 games to go. Connor LaCouvee had taken back the #1 spot on the goaltending depth chart with Halverson in AHL Hartford to stay. LaCouvee had signed a two-way AHL/ECHL deal with the Laval Rocket, who’d later call on him again. FIGHTING TO THE FINISH There was no doubting this team’s magic when Wade Murphy ended an 18-round shootout against Newfoundland on March 17th with his 2nd goal of the marathon mini-game. Another OT triumph followed on Mar. 22nd in Worcester thanks to Greg Chase. That would turn out to be the team’s high point, both statistically, and emotionally. The Mariners were a season-high nine games above .500, but still only three points up on a playoff spot thanks to the success of Brampton and Manchester around them. The Monarchs got a 6-2 statement win at the Cross Insurance Arena on Mar. 24th, the first of five consecutive Mariners losses at an unfortunate time. Between a goal-scoring slump and some struggling defense and goaltending, the Mariners lost a pair to Adirondack and Reading each, finding themselves on the outside of the playoff picture and without control of their own destiny heading into the final weekend of the season. They managed to win two of the last three, but it was Brampton that joined Newfoundland, Adirondack, and Manchester in the North Division postseason. SEASON HIGHLIGHTS Oct. 13th, 2018 vs. Adirondack – The season opener. A 6-3 loss to Adirondack but an exciting and energetic game in front of 5,291 fans. Jason Salvaggio scored the first goal in franchise history, on the power play. Oct. 21st, 2018 vs. Newfoundland – The Mariners got their first win in franchise history, coming from behind in the 3rd, which would turn out to be a common theme for the team. Alex Kile had a pair of goals while Connor LaCouvee, making his first pro start, stopped 34 shots for a 4-2 win. Nov. 10th, 2018 vs. Worcester – The Mariners wore Captain America jerseys for Marvel Super Hero™ Night. In what would be the 2nd largest crowd of the season at 5003, Michael McNicholas’ tie-breaking goal in the 3rd was the eventual game-winner in a 3-1 final. Nov. 24th, 2018 vs. Manchester – Teddy Bear Toss Night, and also eventually “the Ty Ronning game.” Ronning had three goals and two assists in the third, to lead the Mariners back from a 4-1 deficit to a 6-4 win. Dec. 28th, 2018 vs. Worcester – Another specialty jersey night featuring Michael McNicholas as a hero. Wearing Nickelodeon Double Dare sweaters, McNicholas tied the game in the third and scored the shootout winner, as the Mariners prevailed over Worcester, 3-2. A crowd of 4305 witnessed. Jan. 5th, 2019 vs. Brampton – Over 4700 people, including Mariners alumni turned out for “Throwback Night.” Brandon Halverson played one of his strongest games, making 37 saves to lead the Mariners to a 3-1 victory in what was an otherwise rough month of January. Halverson would pick up the team’s first and only shutout victory 13 days later. Feb. 13th, 2019 vs. Worcester – The Mariners pull off their second three-goal third-period comeback of the season, erasing Worcester’s 4-1 lead on goals by debuting defenseman Josh Couturier, third line winger Wade Murphy, and one-goal D-man Derek Pratt. Brycen Martin scored the lone 3-on-3 home winner of the season to send the Mariners onto a long road stretch with a massive victory. Feb. 15th, 2019 @ Norfolk – Michael McNicholas scores the OT winner as the Mariners rally back from a 3-1 deficit on the road to start a five-game road trip with a win. The Mariners would win the first four games of the trip. Feb. 22nd, 2019 @ Adirondack – Yet another come from behind road victory, with Greg Chase tying the game in the third and former Thunder Terrence Wallin netting the overtime winner. The first and only win in Glens Falls of the season. Feb. 24th, 2019 vs. Worcester – Johnny McInnis ties the game in the third and then scores the go-ahead goal in the sixth round of a shootout. Josh Couturier wins it in the 7th round, assisted by a solid goaltending performance by Hannu Toivonen, who picked up several big wins in his time as a Mariner. Mar. 17th, 2019 vs. Newfoundland – With Newfoundland leading 4-2 heading to the third, Drew Melanson and Dillan Fox each score their second goals of the game to force OT. A marathon shootout ensues, with the Mariners scoring three times in “must score” situations to keep the game alive. Finally, in the 18th round, Wade Murphy, who had already scored in the shootout, buries his 2nd attempt to win the game. Mar. 22nd, 2019 @ Worcester – In his first game back from an AHL call-up, Greg Chase scores both goals in a 2-1 OT win, giving the Mariners six extra time wins against the Railers over the course of the season. Apr. 7th, 2019 vs. Newfoundland – The Mariners give their fans one more thrill, topping Newfoundland in a shootout again. Wade Murphy reprises his role as shootout hero, ending the season on a high note. CAREER YEARS Brandon Halverson, G – 30 GP, 15-13-0-1, 2.67 GAA, .924 SV%. After a rocky start, Halverson put up his best numbers as a professional as a Mariner, earning him a call up to Hartford in early February, where he’d spend the remainder of the season. When Halverson was in between the pipes, the Mariners were at their best. Greg Chase, F – 64 GP, 23 G, 28 A, 51 PTS. Chase played for three teams in 2018-19 but was by far most effective in a Mariners uniform. With 42 points in 41 games, Chase earned two separate loans to Hartford. He also was named an Alternate Captain. Chase’s previous career high in points was 37 in 43 games with Norfolk in 2015-16. Alex Kile, F – While Kile technically didn’t hit his career high in points due to AHL loans, he was on pace to shatter his totals from 2017-18. With 20 points (13 G, 7 A) in 22 games, Kile was only eight shy of his career high totals set the previous season in Cincinnati. Kile’s time in Maine was marked by his dominance in the first three months, before stints in Hartford, Utica, and Laval – where he stuck, kept him up at the AHL level for all of the 2019 portion of the season. Brycen Martin, D – 54 GP, 7 G, 21 A, 28 PTS. One of a handful of players who spend the entire season in Maine, Martin rapidly improved his production as the season went along, finding a knack for collecting assists on tip-in goals by getting shots to the net from the blue line. He led all the Mariners defenseman in points and scored the only 3-on-3 OT winner on home ice. (Feb. 13th vs. WOR) ROOKIE STANDOUTS Michael McNicholas, F – 65 GP, 13 G, 40 A, 43 PTS. McNicholas was the team’s leading scorer for much of the season, and finished as the leader in assists, ranking fourth among all ECHL rookies. He was a durable player, appearing in every game after his arrival in early November, and playing in all situations. Morgan Adams-Moisan, F – 42 GP, 15 G, 6 A, 21 PTS. Starting the season as the token tough guy, Adams-Moisan quickly emerged as one of the top goal scoring options on the Mariners roster. Between November 28th and  January 27th, he scored all 15 of his ECHL goals. He’d earn three separate call ups to AHL Laval, where he finished the season – playing a total of 16 AHL games. INAUGURAL SEASON BY THE NUMBERS 13 – The number of overtime and shootout wins the Mariners achieved this season. They went 6-2 in overtime and 7-1 in shootouts. They won 10 straight games that went past regulation between November 7th and March 1st. 22 – The total number of Mariners who also played at least one game in the AHL this season. Rep. John Lewis, civil rights freedom fighter who rose to Congress, dies at 80

Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, has died at age 80.
Lewis was the sharecroppers’ son who battled against segregation — getting his head bashed by an Alabama state trooper in Selma on “Bloody Sunday” 1965 — and later became a 17-term congressman from Georgia.
Lewis moved his fight from the lunch counters, schools, bus stations and streets of the South to the halls of Congress, where he was the Democrats’ senior chief deputy whip and member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
He waged his fight against Jim Crow segregation laws by advocating nonviolent change despite being physically attacked and arrested numerous times. In Congress, he voted against the Gulf War and the Iraq War, led a sit-in on the House floor to demand gun control legislation, pressed for improved health care for the poor, tried to strengthen voting rights laws and fought a rearguard effort to protect welfare benefits from cuts.
“You have been a moral compass for the nation and a voice for freedom and democracy in the world,” Margaret Renkl wrote in an opinion piece in The New York Times in January 2020.
Days before she wrote that open letter to Lewis, the congressman announced that doctors had discovered he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
“I have been in some kind of fight — for freedom, equality, basic human rights — for nearly my entire life. I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now,” he said in a statement at the time. “I have decided to do what I know to do and do what I have always done: I am going to fight it and keep fighting for the Beloved Community. We still have many bridges to cross. … With God’s grace I will be back on the front lines soon. Please keep me in your prayers as I begin this journey.”
While battling cancer, he ran for reelection to an 18th term in Congress, and during the protests following the police killing of George Floyd, he visited a 2-block-long asphalt canvas on Washington’s 16th Street that says “BLACK LIVES MATTER” in giant yellow letters.
‘It’s very moving. Very moving. Impressive,” he told a local Fox TV reporter. “I think the people in D.C. and around the nation are sending a mightily powerful and strong message to the rest of the world that we will get there.”
John Robert Lewis was born Feb. 21, 1940, to Willie Mae and Eddie Lewis in Pike County, Alabama. He grew up on the family’s cotton farm in Troy and attended all-Black public schools.
As a boy, he dreamed of becoming a minister.
“With the help of my brothers and sisters and cousins, we would gather all of our chickens in the chicken yard, and I would start preaching to the chickens. They never quite said ‘Amen,'” he said in a StoryCorps segment that aired on NPR.
At 15, he was inspired by Rosa Parks’ refusal in 1955 to sit in the back of a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in defiance of Jim Crow practices. After graduating high school two years later, he wrote a letter to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and the leader of the nascent civil rights movement accepted Lewis’ offer to help in the struggle. King sent him a bus ticket to Montgomery and they met there.
“I was so scared. I didn’t know what to say or what to do,” Lewis recalled on StoryCorps. “And Dr. King said, ‘Are you the boy from Troy? And I said, ‘Dr. King, I am John Robert Lewis.’ I gave my whole name. But he still called me the ‘boy from Troy.'”
He received a B.A. in religion and philosophy from Fisk University and was a graduate of the American Baptist Theological Seminary, both in Nashville, Tennessee.
As a college student, he organized sit-ins against segregated lunch counters in Nashville, and in 1961 he joined the Freedom Rides against segregation at bus terminals across the South, according to his congressional website.

Two years later, at age 23, he was the youngest speaker at the August 1963 March on Washington, where King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.
“We march today for jobs and freedom, but we have nothing to be proud of,” Lewis told the sea of 250,000 people at the Lincoln Memorial. “For hundreds and thousands of our brothers are not here. For they are receiving starvation wages, or no wages at all. While we stand here, there are sharecroppers in the Delta of Mississippi who are out in the fields working for less than $3 a day, 12 hours a day. … We are tired. We are tired of being beaten by policemen. We are tired of seeing our people locked up in jail over and over again. …
“We want our freedom and we want it now,” he continued. “We do not want to go to jail. But we will go to jail if this is the price we must pay for love, brotherhood, and true peace. I appeal to all of you to get into this great revolution that is sweeping this nation. Get in and stay in the streets of every city, every village and hamlet of this nation until true freedom comes. … By the force of our demands, our determination, and our numbers, we shall splinter the segregated South into a thousand pieces and put them together in the image of God and democracy. We must say: ‘Wake up America! Wake up!’ For we cannot stop, and we will not and cannot be patient.”
During the “Mississippi Burning” Freedom Summer the next year, he organized voter registration drives and community action programs.
Then as the 25-year-old head of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Lewis helped lead some 600 people intending to march 54 miles from Selma to the Alabama capital Montgomery to press for voting rights for African Americans. As the demonstrators marched over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, state troopers ordered them to disperse within two minutes. In another minute and five seconds, the 150 police officers charged into the crowd on foot and on horses, firing tear gas and swinging bullwhips and clubs. The date, March 7, 1965, became known as Bloody Sunday. Among the 58 people treated for injuries was Lewis, who suffered a fractured skull after a trooper hit him with a billy club.

“I was hit in the head by a State Trooper,” Lewis recalled in a tweet 51 years later. “I thought I saw death. I thought I was going to die.”
He returned to the bridge for every commemoration of the attack, including a surprise appearance on March 1, 2020, despite being ailing. That march came two days before Alabama voted in one of the Super Tuesday presidential contests. “We must keep the faith, keep our eyes on the prize. We must go out and vote like we never, ever voted before,” Lewis exhorted the crowd, his voice still as powerful as his words.
“All these many years later, I don’t recall how I made it back across the bridge to the church,” he recalled on “Oprah’s Master Class.” “I do recall being in the church. They asked me to say something to the audience, and I stood up and said something like ‘I don’t understand it how President Johnson can send troops to Vietnam and cannot send troops to Selma, Alabama, to protect people whose only desire is to register to vote.'”
Five months after Bloody Sunday, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law on Aug. 6, 1965, with Lewis and King among those at the signing ceremony. Lewis framed one of the pens Johnson used and hung it on a wall in his living room.
After leaving SNCC in 1966, Lewis became director of the Voter Education Project, which helped 4 million people register to vote. Eleven years later, he lost a bid to succeed Andrew Young to represent Georgia’s 5th Congressional District and was named by President Jimmy Carter to head a federal volunteer agency, ACTION.
Lewis was elected to the Atlanta City Council in 1981 and to the U.S. House in 1986. Two months before that election, he won a bitter fight in the Democratic primary runoff against Julian Bond, who had been SNCC’s communications director when Lewis headed the organization. During the campaign, Bond had been accused of using cocaine. Lewis took a blood test and challenged Bond to do so, but he refused, accusing Lewis of ”McCarthyism and demagoguery.”
In Congress, Lewis fought for liberal causes. He dissented against President Bill Clinton’s tightening of rules for welfare benefits in 1996.
“How can any person of faith, of conscience vote for a bill that puts a million more kids into poverty? Where is the compassion, where is the sense of decency, where is the heart of this Congress?” Lewis asked during the debate. “What does it profit a great nation to conquer the world, only to lose its soul?”
He opposed the 1991 and 2003 Gulf Wars. He boycotted the 2001 inauguration of President George W. Bush because he didn’t believe Bush had won the disputed “hanging chad” election against Al Gore. He was arrested several times at embassy protests, and the 2016 sit-in he led in the House demanded action on gun control after the Orlando, Florida, nightclub massacre.
“My philosophy is very simple: When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to stand up and just say something, you have to do something,” he said on StoryCorps. “I got into good trouble, necessary trouble. Even today, I tell people, ‘We need to get in good trouble.'”
Through it all, he stood by nonviolent solutions to the nation’s problems and maintained hope for a better world.
“Rioting, looting, and burning is not the way,” he tweeted during the demonstrations days after Floyd’s death. “Be constructive, not destructive.”
“In these days that seem to be so dark, I think the spirit of history is still leading us and guiding us,” Lewis told opinion writer Renkl during a 2016 trip to Nashville. “Call it what you may, but I believe that somehow, in some way, good is going to prevail. And out of some of the darkest hours, there will be daybreak. There will be light. And we will get there. You have to believe it. You have to believe in your guts that it’s going to be OK.”
Lewis’ wife of 44 years, Lillian Miles Lewis, died in 2012. Survivors include their son, John-Miles Lewis.

Let’s Be Real: Five Sensible Free Agent Targets For The Cowboys
Tumblr media
With the sting of this year’s divisional round playoff loss to Green Bay still fresh, the Dallas Cowboys must turn the page and look for ways to avoid this same dreaded feeling next January. One of the first areas to address is the looming free agency period. Who to keep? Who to let go? Who to bring in? If recent history is any indicator, we have seen that the Dallas front office and the Cowboy fan base haven’t always seen eye to eye during the month of March.
Fans tend to be drawn to the big names that will fill glaring holes. This year, popular names include pass rushers Jason Pierre-Paul, Melvin Ingram, Chandler Jones or secondary players such as Trumanie Johnson, Eric Berry and Stephon Gilmore. Maybe this will be the year that the front office decides enough is enough and they pony up the cash for a big ticket free agent. However, their actions of late have shown us that this is unlikely. Instead, look for the Cowboys to resign a majority of their own free agents and then go after several “phase two” type players that will fill the remaining holes, hopefully upgrading in the process.
Stephen Jones, Will McClay and company have also shown a propensity for a certain “type” of free agent. Usually these players are on the right side of 30 years old, not commanding a huge payday, have a pedigree of talent but didn’t work out at the previous location for whatever reason, and they also must fill an area of need.
Here is a list of five potential (and realistic) free agents the Cowboys could take a look at that fit this criteria.
Tumblr media
Dec 18, 2016; Denver, CO, USA; Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian (13) looks to throw the ball under pressure from New England Patriots defensive end Jabaal Sheard (93) in the fourth quarter at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Patriots won 16-3. Mandatory Credit: Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports
1. Jabaal Sheard –  Defensive End – Age: 27 – 6’ 3” 265 lbs.
When the 2017 season kicks off it will be Sheard’s 8th. He was drafted in 2011 in the second round out of the University of Pittsburgh by the Browns. Still at just 27 years old, he stands to have a lot left in the tank. Sheard has been inconsistent throughout his career, posting a career high sack total of 8.5 in his rookie season and then nearly matching it again in 2015 registering 8 sacks while a member of the Patriots. However he left a lot to be desired in between. Sheard signed a 2 year $11 million contract with New England after the 2014 season with $5 million guaranteed, and hasn’t done much to warrant anything richer this time around. With big ticket pass rushers like Pierre-Paul, Ingram and Jones receiving top billing, someone like Sheard could slip past the initial free agency crazy and into Dallas’ sweet spot.

2. Dre Kirkpatrick – Corner – Age: 27 – 6’ 2” 185 lbs.
With Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr set to become free agents, the Cowboys will have to address the cornerback position in some way shape or form. Whether or not they decide to keep one, both or neither remains to be seen, but one viable replacement, should they decide to move on, is Dre Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick was selected with the 17th overall pick by the Bengals in the 2012 draft. After being chalked up as a disappointment for much of his first three seasons, Kirkpatrick began to turn a corner in 2015 and finally started to look like a first round talent in 2016. Here are some of his stats compared Cowboy corners Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr and Orlando Scandrick during the same time period, the 2015 and 2016 season. (used 2014 and 2016 for Scandrick due to him missing all of 2015).
Kirkpatrick – 26 Passes Defensed, 3 INT, 31 Games Played, 116 Total Tackles
Claiborne – 12 Passes Defensed, 1 INT, 18 Games Played, 63 Total Tackles
Carr – 15 Passes Defensed, 1 INT, 32 Games Played, 136 Total Tackles
Scandrick – 17 Passes Defensed, 3 INT, 26 Games Played, 101 Total Tackles
Kirkpatrick compares favorably to what Dallas has had during the past two seasons. He is long and possesses the size that the Cowboys covet at the position. Dre played his college ball at Alabama and we know how much Jason Garrett values and respects Nick Saban’s opinion of players – see Rolando McClain – maybe this connection puts Kirkpatrick on Dallas’ radar. Signing him to a multi-year deal and bringing back Carr on a one-year contract could prove beneficial.
Tumblr media
3. DJ Swearinger – Safety – Age: 25 – 5’ 10” 208 lbs.
Similar to their situation at corner, the Cowboys have two contributors at safety that are set to become free agents in the form of Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox. While we have already discussed the team’s affinity to resign their own players, there is always the possibility that one or both of these players will not return in 2017, enter DJ Swearinger. Swearinger will be entering his 5th season out of South Carolina, having been a 2nd round pick of the Texans in 2013. After grading out as one of the worst safeties in the league in 2014 and 2015, Swearinger finished the 2016 campaign as Pro Football Focus’s #9 rated safety while a member of the Cardinals, boasting a 85.9 coverage score. He set career highs in tackles (58), tackles for loss (5), passes defensed (8), and interceptions (3). After making just under $2 million in 2016, Swearinger’s price tag should remain affordable enough for Dallas to be players should they decide to move on from Church and/or Wilcox.
Tumblr media
4. Cordarrelle Patterson – Wide Receiver – Age: 26 – 6’ 2” 220 lbs.
Similar to other positions on this list, wide receiver is a place with a few free agent question marks for Dallas heading into the offseason. Terrence Williams and Brice Butler are set to become free agents, leaving the team with Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley as the only receivers with any real experience on the roster. The latter of which is best used as a slot specialist. Williams could stand to price himself out of what the Cowboys feel comfortable paying him, and one potential cheap replacement is Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson already has a relationship with Dallas wide receiver coach Derek Dooley, as Dooley was his head coach at the University of Tennessee. Patterson has elite speed and possess the ability to blow the top off of the defense in a way the Cowboys haven’t had in some time. He is also a true weapon in the return game, bringing multiple kicks back for touchdowns since he came into the league. Despite his career high 52 receptions in 2016, Patterson’s inability to develop as a wideout thus far in his career should keep his price tag down.
Tumblr media
Nov 6, 2016; Green Bay, WI, USA; Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle (84) rushes with the football after catching a pass in front of Green Bay Packers linebacker Jake Ryan (47) during the second quarter at Lambeau Field. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports
5. Jack Doyle – Tight End – Age: 26 – 6’ 6” 258 lbs.
Doyle entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2013 as a member of the Titans. He maintained a pedestrian career up until 2016 when he broke out for 59 receptions 584 yards and 5 touchdowns as a member of the Colts. Doyle graded out as PFF’s 16th overall tight end, actually grading higher than perennial pro bowler Jason Witten in receiving and run blocking. While Witten still has a couple good seasons left in him, the end of his career is far closer than the beginning. Factor in the lack of depth behind him and tight end is surely a position the Cowboys look to address this off season. Geoff Swaim has shown promise but is coming off of IR, James Hanna is also injured and there are questions as to if he will even play again, Gavin Escobar is a free agent who has largely been a disappointment, and Rico Gathers is still learning the position after completing his first season of football since he was a teenager. Doyle may be viewed as a bit of a one year wonder which could align his price tag with that of what Dallas is willing to pay.
As the playoffs come to a close and the league approaches its new year on March 9th, Cowboy fans should keep names like these in mind when looking for potential upgrades this team can make through free agency. While these names still may price themselves out of the Dallas comfort zone, they appear to be more likely acquisitions then the big price tag names such as Eric Berry or Jason Pierre-Paul.
