My Inquisitor, Darva, was estranged enough from his clan to where him being in a relationship with a human wasn’t an issue for him. He had difficulties enough fitting in with his clan in first place with his place as a mage in the clan. His clanmates who came with him to the Conclave were defensive about it for a while partially because they wanted what was best for him. He’d ended up in a bad relationship before, so it was more just watching out for him. (It was never active confrontation or some super protective stuff. Just general like watching out for him.) But after a while they warmed up to Dorian and their relationship.

Darva doesn’t abandon his traditions, but rather he embraces them with his relationship.

It’s like the same with Fisk’s relationship with Cassandra. Ze isn’t going to abandon zir own faith for her just as ze doesn’t expect her to abandon her own faith. (They work out things with their differences in faith more than what is ever shown on screen).

A question for all you Dalish elf roleplayers:

How do you roleplay falling in love with a human? Because I’ve always assumed that’s kinda taboo or at least frowned upon among the Dalish. Because they want to continue the elven heritage and any children born of an elven/human match would physically be human.

(As a side note, a romanced Merrill says she’d be going against her clan to fall in love with Hawke).

Now a Dalish Warden or Inquisitor could from a roleplaying standpoint consider themselves no longer part of their clan. They have a new place in the world and new roles. They can’t go back to the life they had, so they are free to love whom they choose. But I wonder if they might still have some internal conflict. 

I have seen headcanons of Dalish Inquisitors going back to clans and introducing their human loves (not so much of the Warden). So, just out of pure curiosity, how do your OCs reconcile that conflict (if they see it as a conflict at all)?

Fisk is an archer rogue, specialized as a Tempest. is genderfluid and uses ze/zem/zir pronouns and is 35 at the start of Inquisition!

Fisk is a character adjacent to my main Inquisitor, Darva Lavellan! The two of them grew up together and because Fisk was five years older than Darva, ze sorta watched over him in a fashion. Fisk was often the one who kept prying eyes away from Darva when he would sneak out from under his mother’s obsessive and controlling gaze.

Ze has like five(?) younger siblings, including zir half sister, Tistle, who was born out of an affair. She’s zir youngest sibling.

Ze is more of a classic troublemaker, a very rogue-y rogue, a sort of chaotic neutral robin hood. Ze is charming, suave, and can come off a bit vapid on the surface. But it’s often a front and ze is just incredibly good at knowing people easily. A sort of master manipulator.

Fisk joins the Inquisition in Haven along with Livonah, a fellow friend and clanmate, and slips into an elvish ambassadorial position for Josephine. Once they arrive at Skyhold and Darva is offically made Inquisitor, Fisk’s duties further include standing in for Darva as Inquisitor at formal engagements. It was very useful at the Winter Palace, but most useful when Darva’s wasting illness would leave him feeling unable to attend to his duties.

16. Jealous at all?

Nope, Dimitri isn’t super big on the jealously front. He doesn’t mind if Bull talks about people to fancy. He trusts Bull and his commitment to him and if there was really a problem, they would talk about it. Dimitri only has a few people who have actively chased after his attention while he was Inquisitor and none of them mattered enough to warrant Bull getting jealous about it. Dimitri never gave them the time of day.

17. Their ways of expressing their love

Dimitri is more about quietly expressing his affections, things like spending quality time with someone. He’s very particular about who he will associate with for long periods of time and still enjoy them and he loves the people who he spends time with like that. It can be easy to doubt that Dimitri does care, but when he puts effort and time into seeing someone on a regular basis, he loves them.

16. Jealous at all?

In a manner of speaking, Fisk gets jealous. Ze gets jealous in the complex way of how ze doesn’t like it when people who barely know Josephine or are casual acquaintances of her look at her like they would like to take her to bed purely because of her looks. She’s much more than that--so very much more--and it’s sort of like that jealously of how Fisk is the one who knows her, gets to spend zir time with her and know her. No one else should get that honor because most of the time they don’t care to know about her the way ze does. Fisk doesn’t remark about it and Josephine is more than well equipped to deal with such behaviors. Still it irks Fisk.

17. Their ways of expressing their love

Fisk is a gift giver and verbally expresses zir love a lot. Ze likes giving Josephine flowers, or a little handwritten note; not super material things like jewelry, but little things. Ze does get her jewelry at times, but it’s the personal touches that really matter. For Fisk, zir love and appreciation often go hand in hand. Ze loves her, loves everything she does, and loves to tell her about it.

Fisk Lavellan

1. Ze likes a lot of rich, soft and fun fabrics like silks, velvet, brocade and all those types. They feel nice, plus they look nice too. Ze wears them a lot at court and very much enjoys it.

2. Ze loves the Grand Game mainly for the intrigue and how it fits right into zir sensibilities. A place full of schemes, back stabbing deals, tricks around every corner? There’s nothing quite that exciting, plus taking people down a notch on their expectations of elves is very, very nice. But ze does have the best interests of people at heart, even if zir methods can say otherwise. It isn't the action, but the intent and the result.

3. Josephine got zem a lovely deep shade of lipstick as a gift once and it easily became zir absolutely favorite lip color. Ze wore it out all of the time and it was easy to look in the mirror, see the lipstick, and be reminder of zir love. Plus it was delightful to look at Josephine, smile, and see her smile right back.

4. Ze has five younger siblings--Panora, Merwyn, Sinrehl, Yulwyn, and Tistle!

5. Ze is technically the ambassador for Elvhen affairs for the Inquisition due to the numbers of elves--many dalish--involved in the Inquisition. Both Darva and Josephine thought it best to have someone well versed in dalish culture and politics be a representative. Fisk also serves as the pseudo Inquisitor when Darva is otherwise indisposed.

“Come now, Josie, it won't be so bad!”

“I know!”

“But...?”

Josephine’s head fell back, staring up at the ornamental gold ceiling above, safely tucked behind the screen. She didn’t know why she was being so hesitant about letting Fisk see her all dressed up. Maybe it was because there was some magic to it? Josephine knew the effect a pretty dress could have on someone; she had done plenty of watching beautiful people in dresses and how the sight took her breath away. The wonders of a well tailored gown. And it wasn’t as if ze hadn't seen her dressed up; the memory of Halamshiral wasn't that old that she would forget about it. She could hardly forget that gown but...She knew it was a beautiful gown--her favorite in fact--and that she looked wonderful in it. Maybe it was akin to lovers seeing each other bare the first time. Not that she hadn’t seen Fisk naked before but... 

“Josie..?” Fisk asked yet again and she shook the thought from her head, willing the flush of her cheeks to subside. She pulled her gaze back down to the dress adorning her--much simpler than the ceiling above--and she smoothed the organza. She took a deep breath to soothe her nerves, swallowing. It was Fisk of all people! The person whom she loved who laughed at crude and silly jokes, who took as much fun from pranking nobles as indulging them. Ze was also the person who well and truly held her heart and had given her zir own heart without a single reservation--complete and utter devotion. The thought soothed her nerves and she took another deep breath.

“Alright!” She spoke with mirth in her tone, picking up the dress to not have it catch. “I do hope you keep your eyes closed!” She chided and a laugh rose from Fisk, the sound warm and deep in zir chest.

“I am! Now let me see you, my love.” Ze spoke and her cheeks flushed as she stepped out from behind the screen. Fisk’s hands covered zir eyes, but still zir leg bounced with joy and a smile painted zir red tinted lips. She quietly stood not far from zem, smoothing her hands down the fabric again as she adjusted the hem. Satisfied with the way it laid, she looked back to Fisk and a smile rose to her lips before she even spoke.

“You can look...!” A giggle bubbled up in her throat, resisting the urge to hide her blush. Ze quickly pulled zir hands away from zir face, a breath slipping from zir lips in wonder. Wide golden eyes looked her up and down and she looked down at the gown, her blush warming her chest.

Pale blue silk and organza hung in layers from her waist, gathering and spilling into a train neatly sorted behind her. Embroidered flowers of gold patterned down and around the whole gown, pearls accenting the plunging neckline. She watched as Fisk looked her up and down over and over again, zir gaze not hungry or wanting, but filled with amazement. It was as if each time ze looked, ze found new things in the gown to make zem fall in love all over again. A thought not unlike the one ze had told her over and over again, the same look always in zir eyes. Not unlike the way ze looked at her now.

“Oh Josie...” Ze finally spoke and she giggled as ze stood, stepping back a moment to admire her gown yet again. “You...you look so, so beautiful.” Ze breathed and she laughed, hiding her mouth behind her hands in joy.

“Darling, you are being dreadfully embarrassing!” She told zem and ze laughed, spinning around her briefly to take in her gown all the way. Her eyes followed zem, watching as zir breath caught again and again at the beauty before zem.

“Then I will endeavor to make you embarrassed more often, since there is nothing more lovely than a smile on your face.” Ze told her soft and sweet, offering zir hands to her. She took zir hands, knowing there was nowhere else she would rather be with no one else.

Fisk finds humor in a lot of things, mainly things like little practical jokes and poking fun at people in harmless ways. It’s all fun, but never with the intention of hurting someone. Ze isn’t about being mean like that. Unless it’s playing a joke on human hunters who have come for the clan, then it’s a fun joke before killing them.

 Ze does like to think ze have a good sense of humor, albeit it can be a bit crass at times. Ze gets along with Sera well with her brand of humor. Both Darva and Livonah have been subject to many jokes and pranks over the years. If they are funny themselves as in they use themselves for the expense of humor, not really. They pray on other people for that in a funny harmless way.

(1) A trait they have too much of?

Arrogance and Pride. Ze is very confident in zir abilities as an ambassador to where it’s prideful; ze is the ambassador for the Inquisition, the one thing bringing order back to the world! Josephine and Darva don’t let it go to zir head, but if ze didn’t have them, ze would end up as someone who reached great heights in the world, but came painfully crashing down at zir own hubris.

(2) A trait they don’t have enough of?

Compassion for those outside ze cares about. People like the inner circle and zir striving clanmates get it, but beyond that Fisk doesn’t care too much. If they’re members of the Grand Game, they’re competition and Fisk will play at caring and compassion, but it isn’t there. Ze can play at it for others too, but it goes back to laziness. Fisk doesn’t have the time or energy to care about so many people. It’s also a half assed coping mechanism too. Half assed because ze doesn’t much acknowledge it/want to acknowledge it.

10 Facts about Fisk! 

1. Fisk has always had a fascination with make-up. Ze used to beg the traders in Clan Lavellan to bring zem back make-up and fun things of the like. Ze even went far enough to make things zemself to sell and trade for make-up.

2. Zir family was always accepting of zem and zir desires to present the way ze wanted to present. They weren't going to love zem any different from their other children or anyone else.

3. Ze has various other tattoos across zir body, most notably branches like Mythal’s tattoos across zir back, designs like June tattoos across zir chest and stomach, and ones like the tattoos on zir face across zir arms and hands. It’s an extension of zir vallaslin and also shows zir deep commitment towards zir clanmates and the Creators.

4. After Trespasser, Fisk continued to work as a Elvhen ambassador, eventually being employed by Divine Victoria to oversee her own relationships with the elves as the Chantry turned a new leaf. Ze travels quite a bit to give the Divine more reach and to visit Darva in Tevinter, Ashby and Livonah on the road and, of course, Josephine in Antiva. 

5. The two of them write gushy, super romantic letters and poetry to each other when they’re apart. It’s so sweet it’d rot your teeth. 

6. Fisk’s favorite colors are red and gold and ze uses them in zir makeup and clothing quite a bit. Ze also loves deep shades of blue and cream.

7. Ze is rarely seen in public without zir signature deep red lipstick and it became a trademark for zem in the Inquisition. Like if someone was looking for zem, it was pretty common for someone to say: “go look for the elf in the golden outfit with the deep red lipstick with Lady Montilyet.”

8. Ze loves archery and is a bit sour that ze doesn't get to practice as much as ze would like with zir job. But, ze often gets up at dawn to train a bit before getting the day started. It’s often when ze looks the messiest with zir hair simply pilled up on top of zir head, no make up, and just a simple shirt on. Most people don’t recognize zem when ze train.

9. Ze loves the tiny desserts that can be found in Orlais, but ze loves all the sweets made in Antiva more. Once when ze was visiting Josephine for the summer, the two of them spent all day lazily walking across Antiva City, trying all different foods and sweets the city had to offer. It’s one of Fisk’s dearest memories and even though ze had convinced zemself ze couldn't fall more in love with Josie, ze did.

10. Josephine and Fisk get married not long after Trespasser up in Antiva. It was a very large and extravagant affair that involved all of Josephine’s family along with Darva, Ashby, and Livonah with their own respective partners. It ranks as Fisk’s favorite memory of all time.
