Poecilia sphenops – black molly, liberty mollly, mollie, molly, pointed-mouth molly, Mexican molly, topote mexicano, liberty molly. . . Es conocido como tincuiche de corriente o salmón por los pobladores de las comunidades de Oaxaca circunscritas en la Reserva de la Biosfera Tehuacán Cuicatlán y llegan a consumirse en cuaresma. Para algunos autores Poecilia sphenops (sensu lato) es tratado como un complejo de especies. Esta especie habita principalmente en ríos y arroyos. En Oaxaca suele ser colectada con Poeciliopsis gracilis y Poeciliopsis fasciata. Como leen, P. sphenops presenta varios nombres comunes pero tiene escasas ilustraciones. Aquí les comparto una ilustración de un ejemplar hembra. . . Interesting article. Fish have complex nervous systems, and from my experience working with them, I'd definitely say fish can feel pain (though, like the article mentions, maybe not in the same way mammals do). What do you guys think?
