a/n: the title of this oneshot is a song title from the musical Come From Away, and if you haven’t listened to the soundtrack yet, you definitely need to. Also look for the documentary You Are Here: A Come From Away Story for an amazing dive into the real events and creation of the musical. 

You picked an unconventional career from the get-go. From the instant you told your parents what you wanted to do and where you were moving, they were skeptical but supportive. At eighteen, you moved to America to attend school for musical theatre. Not only were you out on your own for the first time, you were in a completely new country with no friends. Well, no. That was a lie. You had made many friends all across the country. Alex in Virginia, Rachel in New Jersey, Jade in Michigan, and a kid named Corpse in California you had met on Reddit. 

You learned his real name soon after you both developed feelings for each other and began a long distance relationship, but you were more keen in calling him Corpse. 

It suited him better. 

Even after you had officially met, you moved across the country for him, and had gotten married after three years of dating and one year of engagement. You still called him Corpse, especially since his YouTube career took off and that’s all anyone called him. You didn’t want to be caught saying his real name while he was streaming. 

None of his new friends he met playing Among Us knew he was married, or even in a relationship for that matter. He wasn’t at that point with these people yet, they only knew him for his voice and impressive impostor skills. He had gained a following over the years for his Reddit reading videos, so his fans already knew his voice and new fans immediately simped. You found it absolutely adorable, but it was even more reason to keep you a secret. Despite being married, you didn’t mind. 

While his YouTube following was increasing, your career was steadily climbing. Broadway had just been reopened following the pandemic and thus a new wave of auditions. You had since graduated and had an agent, and she sent you every audition that fit you. And surprisingly, you were cast in Come From Away, a musical about Operation: Yellow Ribbon following the 9/11 attacks. The cast only consisted of twelve actors, no ensemble, so you were front and centre every night. It was a dream come true, and you had a blast. You hated being away from your husband, but he understood completely and wanted you to chase every opportunity life gave you. 

After six consecutive weeks in New York City, you were granted a full month off from the show so you could go home and be with your husband. It was rumoured that Come From Away would be opening in Los Angeles so you were hopeful you would be able to transfer from Broadway to LA. But until then, you had a month off and were excited to go home before having to return back to your NYC studio apartment. 

You slowly opened the door to your shared apartment in San Diego, your huge suitcase of luggage behind you as you moved through the apartment. You didn’t call out for your husband, wanting to surprise him completely wherever he was. You were certain he wasn’t streaming, as he wasn’t talking or anything, so you looked around the apartment. When you deduced he was in his gaming room, you thought he was deep in the zone of editing something.

You swung open the door excitedly. “Honey, I’m home!”

Corpse was definitely streaming, just in the lobby as everyone was afk probably grabbing food or using the bathroom. He jumped in his seat, eyes wide as he made eye contact with you. You were frozen as you noticed he was streaming. He was probably speaking the entire time, just quietly so you didn’t hear him, and you had just revealed this huge secret.

Corpse didn’t care.

He threw his headset aside, a huge grin on his face, as he ran to you and scooped you up in his arms as best as he could. “Holy shit, you’re home! Holy fuck!”

You laughed as you hugged him tightly, burying your face into his neck as you just took in his warmth. You didn’t care about the fact that he was streaming anymore. “Hi, baby,” you murmured to him lovingly, then grabbing his face in your hands and planting a fat, juicy kiss on his lips. 

“Why didn’t you call me or text me, I could’ve picked you up at the airport!” he laughed, just holding your face in his hands and looking at you. 

“I didn’t think you’d be streaming today, so I wanted to surprise you,” you replied, laughing now as he gave you soft kisses on your forehead and cheeks. “Sorry, uh, I ruined our secret.”

“I don’t give a fuck, not a single one, you’re home,” he gushed happily, before looking back to his set up. He let out a low chuckle as he watched the chat scroll by quickly. “Come on.”

He led you to his set up, sitting down in his chair before pulling you down onto his lap. He placed his headset back on, one hand on his mouse while the other arm wrapped around your waist with his hand resting on your thigh.

“Chat, this is my spouse, Y/N. They, uh, they’ve been in New York on Broadway for a month and a half and I’ve missed them so much. Say hi, babe,” he smiled at you now.

“Hi, I’m Y/N,” you replied shyly, thankful there wasn’t a facecam so they couldn’t see how flustered you were. Or how fucking beat you looked after your long flight. 

“Woah, Corpse, you’re married?!” Sean’s excited voice sounded from Corpse’s headset, making you giggle. “Dude, why didn’t you tell us?”

“Jesus, Corpse, you had me here really thinking I had a chance,” Sykkuno then said, making the both of you laugh now. 

“It never came up, sorry, guys,” Corpse replied, giving you a slight squeeze. “Yeah, we’ve been together for four years, and we got married last year.”

“Don’t worry, you can still simp over my husband. But if you dare think of actually stealing him from me, I’ll tap dance all over you,” you warned. 

“Wait, Corpse said that you came back from Broadway? What show?” Rae then asked. Corpse had moved one of the ears off of his own and turned up the volume so you could actually hear. 

“Oh, uh, Come From Away. I’ve only been there since Broadway reopened, but I kinda got lucky getting cast,” you replied sheepishly, curling into Corpse a little bit more. 

“That’s bullshit, you have a gorgeous voice,” Corpse replied, pinching your thigh slightly.

“Sing, sing, sing!” his friends began chanting, making you blush heavily and bury your face into his neck. You could perform for hundreds eight times a week but as soon as you were in front of his close friends and over two hundred thousand viewers on his stream, you got incredibly flustered. 

“Alright, guys, relax, they just got home and probably need to rest,” Corpse came to your defence, kissing your cheek softly before letting you get up. “Before you leave, babe. I love you.”

“Awww, I love you too,” you cooed softly, leaning down and giving him a soft kiss. You heard his friends taunting him from his headset, making you giggle softly and leave the room as Corpse turned back to his computer to continue his stream.

“Shut the fuck up, guys.”

Helluva Boss Episode 6 Review

It's Saturday, the twenty-first of August. I wake up at ten. This week has been, to say the least, taxing. My morning routine has fallen into a lull lately. I wake up, find something to eat (usually nothing more than a slice of bread). I open my phone, and the rather rigid itinerary continues:

Open any games that give free daily rewards (though I barely play them anymore).

This routine is borne not out of a personal need for structure, but purely out of apathy towards anything I see. I don't care about updates, I don't scroll through social media, I very rarely type in comments sections. I am done in five to ten minutes.

So, I had kind of forgotten about Helluva Boss. As a matter of fact, it didn't even appear in my youtube recommended, which it has unfailingly done for its past 5 episodes. I had said, a few months ago, when I wrote my last review, that I was losing faith in the series. I didn't think Vivenne had the right mindset for writing, visible in the series' basic structure and frankly cringeworthy sense of humour. By this time yesterday, I had no expectations left for Helluva Boss and no concern over what its future was going to look like. About a year ago I bought a funny little Hazbin Hotel merch t-shirt that I am wearing right now (Ironically, I was wearing it before realizing a new episode had been released. I put it on this morning because it was Saturday and I don't have to see anybody. I like the colors).

So fast forward. It's now around five-thirty in the evening, and I am checking my twitter again. There's an image on my feed, captioned by somebody (I can't remember what the caption is). A Helluva Boss screenshot. I close the tab instantly, and go to youtube, typing into the bar "Helluva Boss episode 6". There it is. I look at the timestamp, 22 minutes, and immediately think to myself: Oh shit, it's review day.

And it is. So here's my review. This intro was a joke, and most of it's made up.

Summed up: This episode is a step in the right direction. All these random character points, that felt too simple, or too back-seated in previous episodes get to take center stage (finally). It's focused only on Blitzo and Moxxie, but by the end of it, they actually feel like fairly complete characters. We start in the center of the action, which works perfectly for a show like this. Even though it's been two months, I am pulled back into the show almost instantly. It opens with some clever animation, of the tv screens, but these aren't the best visuals we'll be seeing this episode by any stretch of the word. In a few quick lines, each character is not only placed into their element: Blitzo's vulgar admonishments, Moxxie's sardonic reproach. Millie is aggressive, but we're again reminded how much she cares for Moxxie. She shouts at Loona to open the gate, and Loona refuses, citing her knowledge of Blitzo, and how she knows he's serious. It's perfect. I love it.

From here we have Moxxie and Blitzo restrained in a high security facility, as some agents begin to question them. The next scene is my personal favorite, of possibly the entire series, because we finally get to see Blitzo and Moxxie acting in sync, being friends, I guess, when we've only gotten bits of that before. They've mostly just bounced off of each other, so it's some nice character development. Good job.The rest will come in a bit. Rogers also gets to show off a bit his knack for the snappy dialogue. Though, every silver cloud: the scene ends with a "your mom" "my mom's dead" joke, that would hardly be funny in a reddit thread. It is downright awful here.

Loona and Millie are infiltrating the facility for a violent intermission.

So here's the real meat of the episode: The agents release into the room a "truth gas" that does exactly what the name implies (oddly enough, they never bother to question the imps before the gas dissipates). After realizing what the gas does, both Moxxie and Blitzo enter musical hallucinations, in which they confront each other, and the personal issues in each of them that contribute to their flawed relationship. Before, I continue, I want to note that the music and animation here are stellar, but again, the episode has better visuals still on the way. This number is essentially what all those bits of development between them were leading up to, and it's great. All of it is paying off. The series will change from here on out, hopefully: We'll get to see a healed Blitzo and Moxxie taking on all the villains that were set up. I was going to mention it later, but I guess I'll just awkwardly shoehorn it in now: Each episode has set up a new villain and none have recurred yet and that is not at all a good thing. I have no idea how Vivienne gonna get through all of them in a meaningful way. Back to the scene at hand: We're going through Moxxie's natural submissiveness, and Blitzo's fear of both intimacy and of being alone (does some of the dialogue here feel too imitative of Rick and Morty? I don't know. That's your call). When it's over, Blitz realizes his love for Stolas (romantic) and for Moxxie (platonic) (probably). They agree to be better friends. Congrats. We did it. The payoff is here.

Let's celebrate with a big ol beautifully animated fight scene that's just as edgy as these 2012 deviantart furries (Loona is back as a wolf, thank you). It's fast, bloody, at one point Blitzo pulls out a comically large rocket launcher labeled "MY DICK" and it shoots a missile labeled "PUSSY DESTROYER" and to my absolute shock, I laugh. That's right: This episode made me laugh one time. But honestly, that doesn't matter to me too much, because this isn't trying nearly as hard as the other episodes to be comedic. It's focused on other things, and I can appreciate it for that. As a twist, the original two agents escape, and slam that big red button. They're locked inside, guns pointed at them, and when it seems as though all hope is lost, Stolas arrives, which a demonstration of his power. Yet another piece of this episodes that fills some previously teased aspect. He's possessing people, raising dead in here, and his "true form" is what I mentioned a few times earlier: the most beautiful visual in the series yet. Or maybe I just like owls.

The episode is over, and I close the tab, thinking about how I'm going to write this review. I'm astounded. I had legitimately lost hope for this series. And just when I least expect it, Vivienne comes with an episode on par, maybe even better, than the second. Each character is realized, the animation is stunning, it feels like it's exactly what it wants to be. To put things into perspective though, I still don't think this episode nears the series' hypothetical full potential. It's certainly not on par with the best of some of the shows it recalls. The comedy still suffers, and the character development doesn't have a ton to work off of, and I that age warning at the beginning still feels misplaced. But you know what? Vivenne has made something half-decent here. And I can appreciate that. If the show keeps this up, hopefully even getting better, and minds bringing back one of those six or seven villains that have already been set up, then the future looks bright. It is with pride, joy, and definitely definitely tears in my eyes that I give this episode a 6/10.

I TALKED TO AMY LEE OF EVANESCENCE ABOUT INSPIRING THE WORLD’S WORST FANFICTION

The singer of My Immortal (the song) has now read My Immortal (the fanfic)

If you mention the name “My Immortal,” you may mean one of two things. The first is the 2003 hit song from rock band Evanescence. The second is a Harry Potter fanfic so transcendentally, mysteriously bad that it’s transfixed the internet for years.

The fanfic My Immortal is about a time-traveling mall-goth teenage vampire wizard (named “Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way”) who is obsessed with Evanescence and a variety of goth-inflected rock bands. She’s supposed to look like Amy Lee, Evanescence’s lead vocalist, pianist, and songwriter. And to this day, nobody is sure who wrote the story or whether they were serious.

Back in the real world, Lee and the rest of Evanescence have spent months under stay-at-home orders during the coronavirus pandemic. They’ve used that time to film two music videos in collaboration with director P.R. Brown, each shot by band members and their families. The latest is a surreal video for “The Game Is Over,” a song from their upcoming album The Bitter Truth. In Lee’s words, it’s shot as a “psychological thriller,” full of imagery based on a specific fear or inner demon from each member.

These videos — filmed in living rooms, cars, and other personal spaces — give fans a new kind of look into the band members’ lives. But I was curious about a different kind of fan relationship: did the creators of “My Immortal” know about My Immortal? I spoke to Lee, and the answer is yes; in fact, it’s part of a long-running family joke. She’d never actually read it, however, until last week.

You’ve made two videos under quarantine, and they’ve taken very different approaches. What was the process behind each of them?

We really had to just think kind of quickly. We were working on another video treatment that would have been full-production, this whole deal with a big crew and things we could no longer have because of the pandemic — including the fact that we couldn’t even physically get together because we live all over the world.

We recognized that “Wasted on You” had a bunch of lyrical content that felt like all of a sudden where we were. So we went for that. I really wanted it to be real on a level like people hadn’t seen us before: in our own homes, in our real lives, not dressed up, not in makeup, just the real, raw us.

For the second one, it’s like “Okay, how do we take what we’ve learned and amp it up even more to make it look like a real video more than just us being ourselves?” We have all been very serious about the lockdown, so we have been completely alone for the most part during this time — and that is cool in some ways as a creator. But you really have to live with yourself all the time.

A few of us have gone through some difficult things in the past few years. [Bassist Tim McCord] and I both experienced losses in our immediate family. There’s just been a lot of hard. So you know when you’re finally forced to stop being distracted by all the things that keep us happy, there’s silence — and that stuff comes out. So each of us had a private kind of gut-spilling confession with [P.R. Brown] about what we’re struggling with.

We were just sharing deeply in a way that we don’t normally go all the way with when it comes to at least our visuals. When I pour my lyrics into my music, it’s always really raw. But in this, it’s like, we’re not going to hold back on the video side and just make it beautiful — we’re going to go for it and let it be ugly and share the dark parts of ourselves.

I think of a lot of your music as being open and vulnerable, and you interact with fans online. What does filming a video at home like this communicate that your normal social media presence and music don’t?

I hope it just shows more and more of that willingness to be vulnerable because as hard as it is, it always leaves me feeling more satisfied than just putting on a pretty face.

Social media’s such a weird world for me. I love it — I’m grateful for the idea that we can have a direct relationship with our fans. But it’s kind of a double-edged sword. It’s such an open platform for everybody to criticize everything about you. And when you go there, you’re going to see that. I think that’s true for everybody. It doesn’t matter if you’re a celebrity or not. It’s just a place where people don’t have to show their face to say things, and there’s a lot of ugly out there.

What’s your relationship specifically with fanworks? Do people send you things that were inspired by you?

Oh my god, it’s so wonderful. We’ve got so much art. I’ve got this huge collection of stuff that I’ve been hanging on to just from the beginning. There are so many talented people out there that pour their efforts into making a piece of visual art that is either of something in the Evanescence world or just something else that came out of them while they were listening to our music.

Then there are other things that you have to keep because they’re so hilariously funny. People will make a crazy poem that makes totally no sense but I’m a character within it, which is awesome. It’s like, I know this person’s like 12 years old and totally sincere, but this is so funny. I have a little studio, and I dedicated a little bit of time during our unexpected free time to cover it wall-to-wall in the bathroom with all the fan stuff.

Which brings me to my next question: had you ever heard of My Immortal?

I think for quite a while I was just unaware of it. And then my cynical, Reddit-loving younger sister who’s also an English teacher, somewhere during the holiday every year when the family’s all together, it’ll come up for some reason. And she’s like, “Wait — you still haven’t read My Immortal?” And I’m like, “No, what do you mean?” She’s like, “You have to. Okay, hold on. Let me read you an excerpt.” And then she’ll pull up her phone and read some awesome paragraph from the craziest, funniest thing ever that makes no sense.

It’s one of her favorite things that she thinks is the most hilarious thing in the world, and I still just kept not reading it. It’s been kind of this ongoing joke with us. And then I got a call a few days ago that you wanted to talk about it, so I was like, “Oh, crap. I have to read a little bit of it.”

I read I think not quite half of it, but it did have me in tears. I was laughing really, really hard at one point, just because of the nonsense. And then I started asking myself, is this real? I can’t quite tell. I’m totally undecided. Is it sincere? I feel like it started maybe as sincere, but they got in on it and started playing it up for the haters. I can’t tell! What do you think?

It would have to be so elaborate, but there are a bunch of cases that really make it seem like this person knows much, much more than the character they’re putting on.

I noticed a misspelling that was like, instead of triumphantly, it was “triumelephantly.” And I was like, come on, you don’t think “elephant” is inside “triumphant.” There’s no way.

At one point, the main character’s name is spelled two different ways within three words of each other.

I totally saw that, too! I’m torn because I want it to be sincere, kind of... but I don’t know.

There are things about it that aren’t cool to talk about. Like it’s not funny to talk about slitting your wrists. So it takes me a second to get past that joke, which is so recurring.

Yeah, if you go back to old internet culture, a lot of it is really ugly. And it’s weird trying to separate that stuff out.

Is it better now?

I don’t know because now I’m too old to know what’s going on. But kids do seem nicer. They often seem nicer.

I would like to believe we’ve grown up a little bit as a society from that. Maybe everybody having a little bit more of a microphone has taught us some things that we need to be aware of that are outside of our perception and our personal experiences. There are other people that are seeing that in a different way. I think it would be cool if that’s true.

I was a teenager around when My Immortal came out, and it feels like it describes a very recognizable “goths versus preps” rivalry. Did you feel that?

I think this thing is poking fun at that world — I mean it would have to be, come on — and that part of it really resonates with me in a real way. But I didn’t consider myself goth! Part of what’s weird and funny is like okay, this is describing hating the preps, and you’re the cool one, you’re the underground, you understand real life and the gravity of death, and I get it. But if you’re so depressed and everything’s so hard and you’re so real and they’re so fake, why do you put so much effort into your look?

That was what always turned me off about the word “goth” when that started being assigned to me in our early days. If I was 15 years old and you’d asked me what I was, I’m grunge. I buy all my clothes at garage sales, I don’t do crap to my look, I get ready two seconds before school, and all the preps are the ones who put all their focus on their looks and what party they’re going to go to.

But yeah, that part was funny to me. That part existed.

I love the idea of you knowing about this thing for years without having read it.

I kind of want to thank you because I did get a really good laugh out of it last night. It’s not like, when I have free time, I’m motivated to go read some horribly bad thing. But it’s actually pretty interesting.

And you’ve gotta love all the characters breaking into song to sing My Chemical Romance songs. It’s pretty great.

I would not be able to pick a top 5 because they all amazing but thankfully Sara is showing you a few below!

Hello my fellow simmers,

allow me to introduce myself. I’m Sara aka CatSaar and I’m (mostly) a builder for The Sims 4. I started playing the Sims 1 as a teen and it quickly became my favorite game back then. But some years later I stopped gaming all together, life just got too busy and it fell off my radar. Until 3 years ago, while I was at a low point in life and just clicking through YouTube I stumbled on a speed build. I don’t remember by who, but I was sold. That same day I got The Sims 4 and not much after I got all the available packs. And so my sims journey began again. In the beginning my houses were just boxes with a roof slapped on. Looking back at them now, I just have to laugh at how bad they were. Which I realized once I discovered the community and how many talented builders there are. Seeing the possibilities through what others created, I was determent to get better. I watched A LOT of speed builds and then I found the Holy Grail of creativity, Simblr. The first builds I shared on the gallery were unfurnished modern houses that I recreated from real life buildings. I leave them on there, even though I don’t like them anymore, as a reminder of how far I have come. Always remember that any skill takes time to learn. Even to this day I still make progress in building, which is part of the fun!

The friends I made on the Gallery were the ones who pushed me into getting a Simblr and I’m thankful for that cus it has been a fun ride. Sharing my builds and getting excited reactions to them brings me so much joy. It’s really the cherry on top of the cake that is building.

So let me show you some of my finest moments in building and why I am getting featured here. (Thank you so much for the opportunity Kerstin!!)

The first build I posted on Simblr was my Cherry Blossom Town. A 64x64 Japanese town. I’m still proud of it. It was my best build at the time and it took me a full week of non stop building to complete. It’s been 2 years since I made it and even tho I got better at detailing, it will always have a place in my heart.

Honestly cottages are just adorable so I had to share at least one that I made. There’s just something about this style that makes my heart all fuzzy and warm. This one is simply called Rustic Cottage, as my creativity does not extend to naming my builds. Landscaping is such an important part of these kind of houses and who doesn’t love a bunch of ivy?

But let’s move on to some more recent once. Another town, as I looove to make those even if they take me forever, Vista Silegra. This one got picked up by The Sims 4 France and EA Benelux on Twitter and got me gold on Reddit. (shout out to my reddit peepz) The recognition for this build still baffles my mind to this day. It was inspired by a picture of a small Italian side street I saw on Pinterest and thus a whole town was born.

I swear I also do houses, I just have a soft spot for neighborhoods and towns. This Tokyo Suburb is my most recent one as I’m writing this. I think you can definitely see the progress I made in detailing my builds compared to the Cherry Blossom Town. I love making it realistic,there’s always a thought process in my cluttering. It has to make sense to me, like it’s real life.

There’s a lot of builds I would love to show you, but hopefully you’ll just check out my Tumblr. To close off this showcase, I chose my version of the Foxbury Commons. It was the number 1 build for my blog last year and I know it got a lot of my followers really excited. (I see y'all) Modern isn’t my strongest and I revisited this one a lot before I was finally happy with it. Perfectionist much?

Hello again! For the month of June we decided to don our best Icarus costumes because we flew directly into the sun on this one! Extra long disclaimer this time. If you're interested in the technical side what we did and how it went wrong, or want to see the raw numbers, that'll be at the bottom of this post!

Disclaimer: There were two major errors during collection. The first one resulted in five people's views not being collected for the first half hour of the event.  These people were SMajor/Noxcrew, ItsFunneh, Squaishey, ASFJerome, and Mefs, amounting to about 56k views when added back. The second error left a 45 minute gap in the data where nothing is collected. While these are major errors general trends are still visible and neat to look at!

TL;DR: MCCP21 peaked with 627.4k viewers a little more than thirty minutes into the event. 65.4% of those viewers were watching the Pink Parrots, and 87.9% of those were watching Technoblade. The second most watched team was the Lime Llamas at 16.9% of viewership, 77.6% of that coming from Wisp.

The event peaked with 627,421 viewers at 8:33PM which was during Sky Battle. Looking at the trend of the data, this statistic is unlikely to have changed if the missing 45 minutes had been counted, especially seeing how the peak of MCC14 was also easily in the first hour.  Data collection began about an hour before the event's official start at 8:00PM and ended an hour after the event's end at 11:08PM.

Four streamers had gone offline prior to the end of 20vs20 Dodgebolt at 11:08PM. Twenty of the 24 participants had gone offline within 5 minutes of the event end. This is in sharp contrast to MCC14 where it took 15 minutes to have half of the 36 participants to go offline. MCC14 participants were also more likely to start streaming well in advance of the event. (For context, only Twitch data was collected for MCC14.) This is probably a cultural difference between Youtube and Twitch.

Viewership by Team Over Time

The viewership drop off after a team fails to reach Dodgebolt is a lot more severe this time, and you don't really see the two teams who did get to Dodgebolt get a boost either. Best guess is this is because MCCP21 was non-canon so nobody really cared who won the whole thing if their favorites didn't make it. Another observation: Pink Parrots has a much more severe dropoff during the Bird App Poll than everyone else. Unseen here is the viewership increase when Wilbur's fire alarm went off :(

Viewership Breakdown at Peak by Individual

So, not the most diverse viewership. The most watched person at peak in MCC14, Tommyinnit, only had 21.1% of total viewership. Even if you combine that percentage with the runner-up Dream's numbers, you only get 38.4% of viewership going to them. There is not a single team from MCC14 who captured nearly 57.5% of the viewership. The most they could do was 39.9% (Green Guardians). Absolutely insane degree of domination.

Wisp's numbers were so hugely different from last time (0.1% to 13.1%) that I actually sought out people who watched him to confirm he really had over 70k viewers. He did. This probably has to do with having fewer big names to compete with and being on a team with Tommy and Tubbo. Plus, he’s more familiar to the Minecraft community than Joey Graceffa, so fans of Tommy and Tubbo would be more likely to watch Wisp to see their faves. This isn't meant to belittle Wisp or to attribute his viewership entirely to Tommy or Tubbo; MCC is an unfair measurement of the usual popularity of a creator.

The predicted viewership graph was generated using data from a poll I ran on Tumblr and a poll run by u/Epic_Ninja_Dude123 on r/MinecraftChampionship.

Thrilled by these statistics!! The MCC14 survey had nearly triple the sample size (862) as this combined survey, but still ended up closer to actual counts. Real life proof of what they tell you in stats classes! A representative sample is the best kind of sample to have. Something I did not consider when using the survey for MCC14 is its source, a blog on Tumblr that talks heavily about Technoblade and Philza, which obviously biased the audience who took it towards the Pink Parrots (Philza, Fundy, Wilbur, JackManifold). Not a surprise we did better this time but really neat to see logic in action! lol

What's missing? I chose not to calculate average/median viewership for the creators involved due to the large gap in data. It wouldn't be correct most likely.

So, how did you do this and how did you mess it up?

(I, the writer of this post, mostly do the analysis part of this project, not the programming. Apologies if any programmers are reading this and it doesn't make sense. :[ )

Our initial plan was do do just what we did to collect the MCC14 data but for YouTube instead of Twtich. (For MCC14 we used a Python program to request the viewership data directly from Twitch using their API.) This was much easier said than done. Unlike the Twitch API, which allows you to get stream information very easily just using a streamer's name, YouTube API doesn't have a "front door" way of getting this stuff. So, we went in the "back door."

First thing we had to do was manually collect the user ID for each participant. The next step is where the first error occurred: we needed to get our program to recognize the user ID as a user ID, which was done by writing a rule. This was stuff like how long the IDs were and what symbols were included in the IDs. We failed to include a symbol that was present in five of the participant's user IDs, so the program didn't recognize them as IDs and didn't run them through the part of the program which found the stream ID and collected viewer numbers. This is why that data was missing for SMajor/Noxcrew, ItsFunneh, Squaishey, ASFJerome, and Mefs in the first 30 minutes.

Another big way in which the YouTube API differs from the Twitch API is that YouTube has a quota system. Every action you can take with the API has a certain number of points connected to it, and you're only given so many points to spend a day per application. We thought we were only making one call to get viewer data for every streamer, but instead we were making a separate call for each streamer. That destroyed our quota pretty quick, resulting in the 45 minute gap in data collection. This problem was solved by moving our code into another application which granted us more quota.

This is an important lesson in testing your programs thoroughly before use!

On the bright side, the YouTube API is much more active than the Twitch API, which would update streamer numbers seemingly at random and not all at once. The YouTube API updated numbers roughly every 15 seconds and updated for all streamers, not just a few. That's why our graphs are higher resolution this time!

SO. Obviously this time around was not super ideal, which is partially on us for not testing more. (At least this was not the only scuffed thing about MCCP21. We were just being on brand, if you think about it.) However! Good news! The quota won't be a problem next time as MCC15 won't be Youtube exclusive.   We have already fixed the YouTube program we used this time around and have begun to merge the two. We might even be able to collect YouTube subscribers and Twitch followers by next time but we're focusing on making sure we get all the data next time.

Announcing of Dropping DIABOLIK LOVERS MORE;BLOOD

To sum things up:

Someone leaked the Diabolik Lovers Limited V Edition patch, posting it publicly despite all our warnings and requests. Thus we are following through with our original policy.

We’re stopping every projects related to Diabolik Lovers, including further support for Limited V Edition, and there won’t be a patch for More;Blood.

Collar x Malice Unlimited will still be released, but privately. After all, you guys will get the English version of it from Aksys for the switch next year!

I (the leader of otogetranslations) will still be helping other translators with their projects: Brothers Conflict, Hakuoki SSL. How the patch is gonna be distributed is up to their respective leaders (coquettishcat for Hakuoki SSL, and PassionandBrilliance for Brothers Conflict).

No more Black Wolves Saga. This project I (Reishiki) started by asking permission to use existing translation from orlandoblue @tumblr, Siberia (twitter.com/bakemeatz). The patch of Black Wolves Saga Bloody Nightmare is to be completed soon. But it’s no more.

As you all know, we released DIABOLIK LOVERS LIMITED V EDITION fan translation patch this August 16th, 2019 for homebrew enabled/hacked Playstation vita, and only for people that have proof or purchasing the game.

There are over 50 people who showed us the proof of purchasing the game and they received the patch for free. All we asked was for you to actually buy the game before you can play it with a hacked playstation vita.

Our 30-people team worked on the patch for 10 months. We only used outsource translation for 8/277 total scripts. Our in-house hacker did the romhacking process, our in-house proofreaders proofed the translation, our recruited translators worked on the translation. Everything was done by us and it’s our team effort. So we have the right to decide how we’re gonna distribute it.

However, on August 20th, 2019. Rojaaalice on reddit r/vitapiracy posted a thread, asking the patch to be given to them for free (without purchasing the game). A lot of people who frequent this subreddit accused us of being Gatekeepers, while all we’re doing is asking for proof of purchasing the game (not the patch, the patch is 100% free). Is buying the game you play wrong? Is asking for a proof of purchasing something you play gatekeeping, when we could have chosen to not share the patch at all in the first place?

I don’t think so.

But, this person, SilicaAndPina (https://twitter.com/SiliCart) is not happy with how we distribute our patch. He said that we should keep the vita hacking scene free, we can’t ask for people to buy anything to be able to get the PATCH that we worked on. He doesn’t play otome games in general, and he doesn’t even know what otome games is.

He started to trick me into giving the patch to him, by making a fake proof of purchase with a cloned gmail account. I noticed the proof was fake and didn’t give it to him. Then he got mad and sent this (WARNING: GORE IMAGE) to me. He stated that he will leak the patch eventually.

He attempted to acquire the patch once again with a different fake proof this time. I also noticed this and we trolled him by sending him a FAKE patch. We left the prologue in English and put ridiculous/crack fanfiction in other parts. He thought it was real and distributed it, declared he has won over us.

He thought he tricked us but no, we weren’t being tricked by his half-assed effort. 

Today, August 22nd, there is someone from the DiaLover Fandom that received the real patch sent it over to him. I’m sorry to say that the patch would be leaked eventually, one way or another, because if someone really wants to leak it, they could buy the physical copy, take a photo with it and send it to us. Then they can sell the game to get the money back. 

So, we lost.

But to the one that sent the patch to him, lost to the malice of this world, and not to him. 

I had envisioned this would happen when I first started the project. So I’m not surprised. I had a small ray of hope this wouldn’t happen so soon, but I was wrong. 

As we’ve stated before, we will cease every project translation related to DIABOLIK LOVERS.

No more patches of DIABOLIK LOVERS will be made from us, at least when I’m the leader of that project (as well as the leader of otogetranslations): Reishiki.

I’m proud to say our patch was enjoyed and praised by people that bought the game and received the patch.

I (Reishiki) will still be supporting other translators if they need it, but I won’t start any new project from now on (in which could be AMNESIA LATER/CROWD/WORLD, VARIABLE BARRICADE - these games I completed extracting the texts with our inhouse hacker’s help, and I planned to announce we would start one of these projects soon. But… I’m sorry to say that it’s no more. At least it won’t be made available to the public.)

JokerTrap-Ran: I think I just lost faith in the community as a whole again, coming back after 4 years. I hope you’re happy! This was really demoralising and I hope ya’ll had fun putting us down like that. I’m not one for drama and honestly I’d very much like to stay out of it considering the bad medicine bashing that happened on otome reddit about 3 years ago. I’ll continue releasing translations for blog’s followers but that’s it. I’m whimsical, and most of my followers know it. I pick things and I drop it all the same. 

Khikari: For those who thinks that what we have committed is blasphemy and should be shut down for this, great, please take the time to learn Japanese yourself. Or learn to care about other people with emotions for once in you life. Demoralising people who were willing to work endless hours for free with just one condition sure is satisfying, isn’t it? It really hurt all of us. For those who genuinely cared and are saddened by this post, I am sorry and I wish the best for you all. I know that the few doesn’t represent all but this is a massive motivation killer, and I don’t need this drama in my life. From now on, private translations all the way! Also, Silica, attacking an idea is fine, but attacking people with malicious intent is stepping out of line. Enjoy being a rock specimen.

LoliChan195: I hope you are happy with what you have done! We only wanted to bring this out for people that had difficulties playing the game, and also help support Rejet by having more people buy their games. Its people like you that cause all these game companies to go bankrupt! (Also SiliCar, you sick fuck. Who sends pictures like that!? XD you’re probably just some edgy 12yr old XD Besides, who says WE WILL NOT FORGIVE XD what a dumbass! And is it that hard to search on google about the game? Why would we make it so it specifically needs to be the limited edition?!?! ) Seriously, the people who attacked us for putting the rule out are just as bad, like can’t you just wait and buy the game? Or even if u just pirate it, read online translations. Its not that hard! 

Hermy: Nothing much to say, except, ya’ll could have totes pirated the game and played it along the translations available on the net. Welp, I hope you don’t dislike that idea too much because that’s what ya’ll gonna need to do if ya’ll wanna play the sequels.

Marzi: I'm a bit numb to this situation at this point, but it is disheartening to know Silica was so intent on distributing our translations that he didn't stop even when we threatened to cease all translations. It wasn't like he was ever going to play the game - he just felt so personally offended by the fact that we were "gatekeeping" for some reason - which, in my opinion, is a bit of an immature reason to ruin a translation group. You can't argue that we're "unrightfully holding something when we don't have the intellectual rights," when you're bypassing all copyright laws as well in wanting to post it PUBLICALLY. But what's done is done - whoever manages to get a copy of this, I hope you enjoy it. Please know so much effort and passion went into these translations, and that we loved working on this project every bit of the way. If the game leaves you antsy for More Blood well LOL you know who prevented that from happening.

Sonic-nancy-fan: I never knew someone could have such an illogical mindset. Silica/PSSDude made the original base repatch program, and we used one that someone had edited and added to (which Silica was fine with). But, because he made the original one, that means he feels like HE can getekeep all uses of variations of it. This would be like saying people can’t use paper to make a paper airplane because the original creator of paper said no, or you can’t print manga because Gutenberg said no. Also, who in the world thinks they can take a moral high-ground by telling us to promote piracy? Patches are already a sort of grey area, so we were trying to take the most legal method available while still making a patch. I know in modern society, piracy is very common, but I can’t imagine your average person would call us in the wrong for trying to hinder piracy. God forbid we try to get people to buy Diabolik Lovers. I can’t say I’m shocked as I expected it to get leaked sometime. I’m just saddened at certain people’s general hate and unyielding desire to leak it. So, I don’t blame the community as a whole, nor do I feel any malice toward the community (we had a lot of people buy the game and get excited). I’m just mad at very specific spiteful people. Also, if I ever hear someone say “the scene” as much as Silica, I’m going to go nuts. It sounds like something the “cool guy” in an 80’s show would say.

Three’s a Crowd

This is a theory surrounding Anti, Chase and Marvin, in which the theory saying that Seán’s in the coma applies (I’m so glad I’ve finally wrote it...).

I. Jacksepticeye is dead

All begins after Seán’s death, a month or so ago. The news affected Chase, who’s been fighting through Anti and depression while trying to keep the channel running for months, who lost the fight momentarily against Anti. This isn’t the first time it occurred, Quit the Game to Win is another example of Chase and Anti switching to control Jack. During the video titled Jacksepticeye Is Dead , it’s Anti we are watching. He knows clickbait titles draw attention, what he wants and needs.

II. This Jumpscare REALLY Got Me!

Still as seen in QTGTW, Anti still can’t stay in control for long if he wants to remain unnoticed. Also, have you noticed that, since he killed Jack, he cannot appear without another ego? Shneep, Anti, JJ,... Another theory (probably already done) for another time, but bear with me and keep that detail in mind, alright? Thanks! So, while Anti came to say hi during Jacksepticeye is dead, Chase is in control during this video. In to beginning at least.

He starts off with a little warning towards Anti, the one who stares There must be a way to stop him for good, right? Or so Chase hopes. He plays the game as if nothing happened, without knowing Anti got a little plan up his sleeve.

Anti strikes quickly, letting his glitch show if needed. We can see Chase trying to force his way out, to force Anti in. He fails, but only for a short time. Chase is more confident than in the last video, stronger. He easily pushes Anti back in, who lets his glitch show again.

So, Anti switches to Plan B, to a new puppet. He strikes again, but doesn’t take control this time. He lets Marvin in, the second oldest ego, who barely got time to shine, who didn’t even had a stable name. He gives him his chance, only watching his reactions and actions.

“I don’t know why you’re narrating it”, as opposed to playing it. Marvin is confused, why choose him? Why not control on his own? Remember when I said Anti was always linked to some ego or other, maybe he’s too unstable to be on his own. He’s more powerful, but still glitches when on his own. Chase is still fighting back, so he switches target. Someone more willing to help, someone who could understand his motives and frustration, someone who craves to be seen again. But Chase’s still in there, and Anti quickly draws back, taking Marvin with him.

Chase’s back, and angry at Anti. Sarcasm is one of the best weapons, showing him he doesn’t fear the Glitch. What can he do? Pop in and out at random? Haunt his dreams just to beg for a little more attention? What he doesn’t realize, is that Marvin has joined his ranks. Anti found an ego willing to help, an ego who loved to be in control for once, an ego, just like him, mostly shaped by the fans. We gave him powers, didn’t we? We made him into a real boy... magician, I meant magician. He just has to ask Marvin to make Chase disappear, and his wish is granted.

Marvin taunts us and Chase. He’s in control now, magic can reverse anything. Anti exists through him, and as long as he receives attention through him with fake hints and whatnots, he’ll let Marvin enjoy his come back from the dead. After all, magic could make people scream his name more easily, right?

III. Reddit 50/50, This Person Does Not Exist & Funniest Home Videos: Marvin’s Mistakes

The matter is, Marvin isn’t quite used to be Jack yet, and makes his presence known.

Who Gets a Seat in Peter’s Cockpit?

The bios for this seasons’ Bachelor contestants went live today and I just can’t help myself. My justification for this round is that ABC is finally back to giving me what I want... more than just a “job” title and an age. Yep, this season we are getting the full on, horribly written bios. Which means I have so much more to work with. 

Alayah (unsure of pronunciation) 

After failing 3 times before, Alayah (unsure of pronunciation) was finally crowned Miss Texas this year. And she really likes talking about it. The Bachelor franchise interns that wrote this bio also added a teaser that, “familiar faces” might resurface proving that Alayah (unsure of pronunciation) is batshit, and like, we already had this drama with Caelynn and Hannah last season, so no thank you. She claims her favorite social media platform is Reddit and I hope we learn that she goes deep on Reddit conversations about romantic relationships with wildlife animals, or something.  

 Avonlea (not a real name)

Cattle Rancher by day, runway model by night, Avonlea (not a real name) shares that every time she milks one of her cows, she thanks it for its hard work. That would be like me kissing my laptop any time I finished a press release. Except less strange. She also claims that in her spare time she likes snuggling up by the fire to listen to a good audiobook and I’m interpreting this as an admission that she can’t read.  

Alexa (can you not start fights this season? Get it, that’s an Alexa joke)

Alexa wants us to know that she decided to move to Chicago during a game of heads or tails, and I’m assuming that’s to make us think she’s adventurous and up for anything, but her hometown is Springfield, Ill. and when I Google map the distance between the two cities, it’s a three hour drive. I made the decision to move 3,000 miles away over a mid-day FaceTime with my boss and have never included that in a bio when looking for love. She’s going to require a lot of attention and I’m already annoyed. 

Courtney

Courtney is proud to be a Florida girl, “through and through” which isn’t something anyone should find pride in. She has had a lot of plastic surgery, but is wearing a cross necklace over a mock turtleneck tank top in her Bachelor photo which means she’s boring to talk to, but makes up for it generously in the bedroom. 

Deandra

Why are all of these women from Texas? Was it the last place on the audition city tour? Anyway, Deandra describes herself as an “independent, intelligent” woman, which translates the same way as when a guy describes himself as “funny” on a dating app... no way it’s true. She is a self-proclaimed “famers market aficionado” and that’s not a thing. 

Eunice (also not a name, but could be an allergy medication)

Eunice (also not a name, but could be an allergy medication) really wants to rid herself of the party girl reputation but when asked her favorite country, she responded with “Greece” because she can knock back ouzo like it’s water, so she’ll be the first to chug a bottle of champagne and make a bad joke about Peters cockpit. Kind of like I did in the title of this post. 

Hannah Ann (I really hate when people have two first names)

Hannah Ann (I really hate when people have two first names) looks like she was on a show on the WB called “Teenage Darkness” that was canceled after one season and likely could have been as she still lives at home with her parents. Her “home” (room at her parents) is decorated with artwork that she painted herself. The background on my phone is a picture of me, so I have no room to judge. But I am. 

Jade 

Like 80% of the other contestants, and The Bachelor himself, Jade is a flight attendant. Unlike other flight attendants, Jade claims she is afraid of heights. What a risk taker. She is also a mormon and was divorced at age 22 so there’s a lot to unpack here. No travel pun intended.  

Jasmine

In a single paragraph, we learn that Jasmine wants a guy that can do the impossible (bring her Chick-Fil-A on a Sunday), build her a table, give her babies (but not until they’ve traveled the world together) and doesn’t play video games. Pretty specific list of “musts” from a guy who wears a bandaid on his forehead and gets off to windmills. 

Jenna

I feel like Jenna and Peter are this seasons Ben H. and Lauren B. He’ll fall hard, but wonder if she’s too quiet and reserved and she’ll spend a lot of time telling him she’s super fun while actually being incredibly boring. She has a pet goldfish named George, the most boring name on the planet, and she believes that George, her pet goldfish, gives great advice. That’s all the proof I need to validate my assumptions.

Kiarra

She is a self-proclaimed social butterfly who loves shopping, fashion, style and social media. So she’s here for the Fab, Fit, Fun + Fit Tea Instagram deals. 

Katrina 

Katrina has a hairless cat (her words, not mine) that she does everything with. She claims that she dressed up like her hairless cat for Halloween and I need to see what that looks like. Or maybe I don’t. The cat is named after her favorite Disney princess and at age 28 I don’t think someone should have a favorite Disney princess. Her mom is worried about her biological clock ticking and I think she should be more concerned that Katrina brings her “hairless cat” with her to birthday parties. 

Kelley

Kelley needs a man to take care of her, and her most recent relationship was an “international long distance” lover that paid for her to go to Jordan to see him once or twice a month. So, she had a sugar daddy. She decided to end it because she “couldn’t see herself moving to the Middle East”. Which reads, she found out she was on The Bachelor and had to call it off... for now. She has been to 26 countries, so I’m guessing Mr. Jordan wasn’t her first SD. 

Kelsey

Kelsey is a “professional clothier” in Iowa and that’s not a real thing. She claims she’s had relationship issues in the past but Pilates cured that right up. She says she’s not looking for drama, which means she will cry a lot this season. I hope it doesn’t ruin that spray tan and smokey eye look.  

Kylie 

Kylie is an entertainment sales associate in Santa Monica, which means she probably passes out fliers for nightclubs on the Santa Monica Promenade during the day and is a bottle service girl in Hollywood at night, in hopes that she will be “discovered”. She is looking for that “rom-com kind of love” which translates to auditioning for The Bachelor and then dating in the franchise pool for press when it doesn’t happen with Peter. 

Lauren

The most important part of Lauren’s bio is that she conducts exit interviews with all of her exes to find out what went wrong. Imagine that. Your boyfriend comes over to break up with you and you’re like, “I understand. Are you free Thursday between 1 - 2 so I can document when you became unhappy in this role and why? Want to make sure the next person we hire (I date) doesn’t face the same challenges” and him responding with, “Oh yea, totally. See you at 1:30, Thursday.” I’m pretty sure if I called an ex and asked for a SWOT analysis on our relationship he would say, “Abby, this is exactly the reason things didn’t work out.”  

Lexi

Lexi would rather be buried alive than trapped in a room full of frogs. That’s it. The thought of being buried in the ground, alive and breathing, is more appealing to her than being in a room of small amphibians for a short amount of time. Sounds like a ball of fun.

Madison

Madison really wants you to know that she loves basketball. She would even rather rock a pair of Jordan’s (I think those are basketball shoes) than heels. She also loves Jesus. A lot. And if Peter doesn’t, it will be a technical foul for their love. Sports jokes, am I right? 

Maurissa (not how you spell Marissa)

Maurissa (not how you spell Marissa) broke up with her long-term boyfriend, moved to Atlanta and lost 80 pounds. She will be the one that works out in the morning instead of having a mimosa with the other girls. She says if she hits it off with Peter right away, she plans on going hard, so she’ll be the one to steal him away during every other conversation. She’ll probably make him feel her newfound biceps, too.

Megan

Another flight attendant joins the season. This one has aspirations of visiting Zion which is literally a 5 hour drive from San Francisco, where she lives. Dream big, Megan. I see her making it to hometowns and since her mom is her best friend, she’s going to put Peter through the ringer which will be very difficult for their relationship. Do you think I’ve watched a season or two of this show? Megan also looks like a hybrid of every Bachelorette this franchise has ever had. 

Mykenna

Mykenna is barely out of college and has only been in one relationship, so this will be tough for us all to endure. She is a fashion blogger which isn’t a real job, from Canada, who has a BHAG of starting a charity. For what, we don’t know. Her grandfather proposed to her grandmother after their first date. All of this wrapped up in one person means a lot of tears will be shed. 

Natasha

An event planner from New York (who in New York isn’t an event planner?) Natasha loves her legs and her back because she has a cross and a dagger tattoo there. What do you think inspires someone to get a cross and a dagger tattooed on their legs all the way up to their back? Real question. 

Payton (not how you spell this name) 

1. “Payton (not how you spell this name) is the type of woman who goes into a bar alone and leaves with 100 new best friends”. No she doesn’t. 

2. Payton (not how you spell this name) found out she had a fifth sibling, “thanks to some serious Facebooking”. No she didn’t. 

3. Payton (not how you spell this name) currently lives in her parents’ basement. That explains why she included 1 + 2 in her bio. 

Sarah

I put my thousands of hours watching every iteration on this show that Sarah is in the final three. She is the Whitney B. of Chris Soules’ season. Like, exactly. Job in medicine, sweet looking blonde, thoughtful and targeted responses to bio questions... calling it now. 

Savannah

Savannah has done her research on what makes Bachelor Nation contestants famous, post show. She claims she enjoys shopping at Revolve, a brand that thrives on leveraging former suitresses as influencers. See: JoJo, Kaitlyn, Hannah G., Caelynn, Caila and other misspelled names from Bachelor seasons past. Her indulgence is Vampire Facials, a trend also posted to IG stories from the aforementioned. She refers to herself as the “turtle princess” and I hope that means what I desperately need it to mean. 

Shiann

In her bio, she claims her dating history includes men with wives, men that ghost her and men that like her friends more than they like her. Sounds like Las Vegas (where she lives) to a tee. She will not make it past night one. 

Sydney

Sydney is coming onto the show with a broken heart. Her favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day and her hobbies including planning fantasy vacations for her and her unknown future husband. She will absolutely come out of the limo with a cupcake and a poorly written poem for Peter, that he won’t remember. 

Tammy

Tammy wanted so desperately to be on the mens wrestling team in high school, that when they told her no, she just showed up to all of their practices until they let her...wrestle. She will be interrupting one-on-one time when she’s not supposed to and show up to Peters hotel room unannounced more than once this season. Tammy also has a vanity license plate and the combination of all of this is just too much for me to think about.

Victoria F. (apparently there is more than one Victoria this season) 

She wants it to be known that she likes a man that cries in public and I already do not relate. She also responded to her bio questions with run on sentences so again, I do not relate. Good luck, Victoria F.  

Victoria P. (the second Victoria it seems)

I’m fairly certain I’ve seen Victoria P. in a porn, but either way, she leads with losing her father at a young age, her mother and sister struggling with drug addiction and her boyfriend cheating on her, but she states that nothing upsets her more than finding raisins in her cookies. Like, despite it all, dried grapes really piss Victoria P. off. Priorities.

Mega Round Up Royal Spoilers

So I ended up finding like, three different streams going at different rates. Out of the three, only two I stayed with. One is mid-late game (Okumura’s Palace from I can recall before they stop playing). One is a Speed Runner and rushing through vanilla Persona 5 stuff to get into the Third semester, only slowing down to read the new updated content.

Thanks to Speed Runner Tim Barry, I was able see much of the game where the second stream hasn’t reach yet (not all, but much). Tim Barry’s stream is the closest stream (to my knowledge) that got close to Third Semester by playing for over 30 hours (part of me think they’re two people because any person would crash after just 12 hours). He finally decided to call it a night and the stream seemingly got nuke by Atlus because he stop on 12/24 before Third Semester even got reach.

I was going to post only Third Semester Stuff, but I’m gonna do a mega roundup of Royal Spoilers up to 12/24 that appeared on the nuked stream (as well as the Second Stream) as a honor for Tim Barry’s service.

There’s a lot of second hand information from either the chat or the spoiler mega thread on the Persona 5 reddit, and information from Second Stream. I think I was able to fill in most blanks. Read under the cut if you’re curious.

Kasumi Spoiler Round Up

Has a twin sister who died in a car accident before the game start

In a slump/downward spiral in gymnastics as a result of her dead sister.

To get something out of the way, and to act as a PSA, someone on TV Tropes added incorrect information abut the twin.

This is the entry- Posthumous Sibling: A recent one at that. A month before Joker arrived in Tokyo, her twin sister was killed in a car accident, heavily implied to be the result of a mental shutdown incident

As of November 1 (when this post is published), I can not find information that gives the implication Kasumi’s twin died as a result of a mental shutdown incident. I have no idea who believed it enough to write it in, but I know that the possible source came when the game broke street date (aka, before official release), being something of a joke (a mess up joke because it’s referring to Wakaba). I mean, who knows for sure in Third Semester, but for now, I’ll assume it’s just a real car accident

Father works at the TV Station, and father knows Goro

This is a bit iffy since Speed Runner Tim Barry’s chat went fast, but from the main translator, Kasumi is on a scholarship at Shujin. In October, the school/a teacher (plans to) revokes her scholarship because she got third place. 3. Third!

Around same time, Kasumi awakens her Persona between Okumura’s Palace and Sae’s Palace (October 3 seems to by the set date when it happens?)

The (Research Facility?) Palace is the Gym Competition Building that is under construction throughout Royal

Kasumi doesn’t join the PT before Goro because she turns down the offer from Joker...and her phone died before the keywords were given so no one is going to check it out 8P

Kasumi apparently tries to join on the 11/25 (I had to leave stream for a bit and I came back a little after it ended) but Mona (and Joker if one apparently pick the option) turn her down due to the danger

Kasumi meets Futaba in this scene. Interesting, in the (Research Facility?) Palace you see that old Kasumi looks a bit like Futaba (Kasumi confirms she wears contacts in Rank 5 I think)

Kasumi Ranks 1 through 5 can be completed before October 3 (?)

Going back to TV tropes, apparently Kasumi’s Arcana change? I didn’t read anything implying that as well, but this I’m willing to believe since it’s likely Kasumi is lock at 5 until a certain point.

Goro Spoiler Round Up

All of Goro’s original automatic Co-Op are still in the game. 

Tim Barry and Second Streamer seem to be dead set on doing Goro’s new Co-Op and getting that Goro Content. So, it begs the question: is the original automatic Co-Op is still there, and only activate to players who don’t make an attempt to do the New Co-Op and be doom for Vanilla Good Ending, or did they just promoted the automatic Co-Op to regular plot scenes?

 From Rank 2 to Five (I think), Joker has to go to Goro

The messy hair Goro appears in Rank 3, the Cafe from Proof of Justice appears in Rank 4

Rank 6 (I think) through 8 seems to be a mixture of automatic and manual. From what I saw once (and second hand info) Goro has to contact Joker, and Joker have to accept

In Rank 6, Goro reveals his mother is a prostitute. Goro recalls his mother sends him to the bathhouse when she had ‘clients’. Goro apparently never told this part of his life before to anyone 

I have no idea if Goro meant his mother, after getting dump by Shido, had to turn to prostitution to support her son, or if he meant Goro is the son of a politician and his lady of the night

Rank 7 I missed completely, so this is all second hand info. It seems Goro ask Joker about joining his side, and Joker answered ‘let me think about it’, and Goro replied with something of the lines  ‘don’t make promises if you can’t keep it’. I have no idea if there was another choice that could lead to some Accomplice Ending.

Rank 8 is interesting. I got to Tim Barry’s stream and caught the aftermath freak out on the chat. Goro thinks that he and Joker fight one on one. Goro loses, and when they leave Mementos...he throws his glove and acts a bit like his Rank 9 and 10 self.  

BTW, it’s unknown how Goro reacts if he wins

Nine and Ten are automatically ranked up, and it’s the whole Engine Room Scene, meaning Goro suffers from his MIA fate

HOWEVER, Rank Ten got a redo. Via translations, when Goro is about to go MIA, Goro apparently wants him and Joker to have an eventual rematch, in which Joker can reply with either deciding to keep that promise or something of the lines, ‘i’ll keep your gloves’. I didn’t even think Joker took Goro’s glove. Goro’s animation is apparently also different too. That I couldn’t spot lol.

A little after Goro goes MIA, Joker is on his bed. He thinks of Goro, apparently wondering or not if can see Goro again (?)

The main translator of Tim Barry’s steam is quiet (or gone), and Tim Barry pick the first option. I don’t know who said it, but apparently word got out that he may have pick the wrong choice: to Forget. Cue Major Freak Out by everyone in the chat

Main Translator comes back, and they agree that the first option is to forget Goro’s promise. A civil war happened in the chat if Tim Barry should reload or not, because he was right about to take on Shido. Because Tim Barry is dead set on getting that Goro content, he took the risk of reloading the game, redo about an hour and a bit of gameplay, and pick the second option.

Back to Goro, he won’t say the PT’s name anymore

In apparently Rank 10 (don’t trust me with this; I assume 10 because of its content), Takuto tells Joker he knows who are the Phantom Thieves 

Or rather, he knows the original members because he spotted them disappearing into thin air (something like that)

And since then, he been indirectly been using them as a way of collecting research or something. 

And then he leaves Shujin

Think that’s fishy enough? Takuto was able to meet almost all of the Phantom Thieves members and talk to them. Those at Shujin go to him for a small meeting/counsel

Other Notes of Importance Round Up

So all of the bosses have a new gimmick, as seen with Kamoshida, Madarame, and  Okumura via press material pre-release). I actually haven’t seen much of the Boss Fights, so I won’t go into much detail other than what I seen with my own eyes (except for one)

I swear to God someone better figure out what’s the point of Cognitive!Shiho in Kamoshida’s boss fight I think she serves a possible strategy for Kamoshida like doesn’t Cognitive!Yuki have something akin to that?

Sae: It has something to do with roulette in her second form,  deciding what her attack/weakness (I had no idea what lol I like, entered in the middle of it and the PT won seven minutes later).

Shido: So Shido ‘kills’ Joker’s teammates, and he and Joker have a freaking one on one fight when he’s in his shirtless buff form. Shido got some new powerful skills

I’m utterly disappoint Shido got the one on one boss fight but not Goro and Joker like maybe we’ll be getting it in Third Semester

Sae’s Co-Op is still Automatic (maybe there’s no valentine date after all!)

any tips for somebody trying out warframe for the first time since they were like uuuuhh. 17?

I’m gonna assume this means you haven’t checked out the game in a few years, which puts you in a boat similar to the one I was in when I redownloaded it in 2016, which is totally cool! The game has changed so much it may as well be a different game, and continues to do so every year. In some ways the new player experience is streamlined, but overall it’s still really overwhelming to get into.

First off, if you’re redownloading on the same platform with the same account you had previously, anything you did previously will still be there. For example, when I first played I started with Mag. When I tried the game again years later, I picked Volt for the tutorial quest that was added in the meantime, but once I got into the game proper, I still had Mag. And I’ve heard of accounts of people thinking they’d lose their Prime frames or platinum after reinstalling, only to still fin them there. So that’s a cool thing I’m sure still applies.

If you’re starting fresh, in regards to starter frames, I recommend Excalibur or Volt depending on whether or not you’ll be playing with others or solo. I say this because Mag and Excalibur can be acquired very early on (with Mag being one of the first three frames you can farm for once you have access to the solar map; she’s my favorite of the three, and the only reason I recommend not to choose her to start is because she’s incredibly simple to acquire regardless); for Volt, however, you’ll need to join a clan to have access to their dojo and their labs, which have blueprints for various things, including Volt. If you don’t want to commit to a clan but want the blueprints, many clans are open to inviting people with no commitment or requirements, so you can grab your blueprints and leave. I saw this a lot frequently with the tweaks made to Nezha, who can only be acquired via a clan dojo (also my favorite frame, highly recommend, Nezha’s the reason I’m into warframe). Lots of newer players asked to join clans just to get him, and clans were very receptive to this!

But uh, in short; if you don’t wanna talk to people, choose Volt. Otherwise, maybe go for Excal since the boss fight to acquire him can take longer/is more annoying than Mag’s, who is easy peasy. Although, you can start your own clan and build your own dojo/labs, but it’ll take a long while to get things set up so you can have access to those blueprints.

Speaking of blueprints, I feel they’re set up in a confusing way that can seem unfair. I don’t believe Warframe is a game that promotes microtransactions and works hard to make it optional, but the menu layout isn’t always clear on this. By this I mean, if you’re looking for new frames or weapons in the market, and it says you have to buy with platinum, the real world currency–you really don’t. There will be a button prompt that will either give you the price of the blueprint in credits, so you can gather material and craft the frame/weapon, or it will tell you where the blueprint is, which generally means it’s in a dojo lab, a quest, or you farm for it somewhere.

If you don’t know what to do, follow the Solar Map. It basically tells you where to go and what unlocks, be it planets, quests, or new game functions and such. If you’re interested in the open world areas, the REALLY COOL THING is that they’re available from the start! Plains of Eidolon is on Earth and deliberately has a new player friendly tutorial and a good half or more of the features. The upcoming Fortuna addition will be on Venus, which is also a planet that doesn’t take long to get to.

You’re going to get some starter platinum that you can’t trade, and I highly recommend you keep it for extra warframe and weapon slots. I find it ridiculous that they cost platinum, but at least it’s a very low amount that’s easy enough to trade for. You can earn platinum in-game via acquiring relics and opening them in void fissure missions. This is something I don’t think is explained unless you look for it in the in-game Codex; but the Warframe wiki will probably be your best source of info for just about everything. To be honest, the only things in the game that absolutely require platinum that can’t be farmed are cosmetics* and slots. Everything else can either be farmed, or just requires patience (building items in your foundry takes real time for example; it costs platinum to speed it up, but you don’t really need to spend it).

(*also exception to the cosmetics rule are alt helmets; tennogen, that is user made ones, and deluxe skins+helmets will always cost platinum, but the official ones can be acquired via alerts.)

If you happen to have an Amazon Prime and/or Twitch account, use them! Linking your Prime account to twitch gives you access to Twitch prime, and therefore various bundles Digital Extremes have been releasing which include free Prime frames and weapons. You can earn stuff even if you just have a Twitch account, as DE has been experimenting with Twitch drops, and if you tune into their weekly streams, you can win platinum and other prizes. I won platinum in my first few months of playing! The devs are also wonderful and in near constant communication with the playerbase and are, like, constantly just giving things away, it’s amazing.

Uhh lastly, I wanna say overall the community is good, but I suppose that would depend on where you interact. The region chat in game is full of trolls, and from what I’ve seen on reddit or the official forums, it’s mostly full of either whining or ~veterans~ talking about the meta which consists of a bunch of shit that’s really not relevant to newer or uninterested players. The fandom here on tumblr is full of a lot of creatives (myself included! though I haven’t done anything for Warframe yet) which is super cool, but if you care at all about the lore or story, you’ll want to blacklist spoilers and stuff liberally if you browse the tag, since PC gets updates before consoles, and in general the big story reveals are a few years old now. Personally if I need to look up something, I just go to the wiki.

That’s all I can think of! I apologize for the text dump, but as much as I love Warframe, many of the game features aren’t well-explained in the game and it’s hard not to over-explain. Jacksonville shooting: The high-pressure, big money world of competitive gaming

With the final seconds draining away on the game clock, “Bread” pulls off a big finish.

It’s a chilly February night in 2017 in Buffalo. The flat screens plastered across the walls of the 716 Food and Sport are all tuned to a live-stream of the game, including a massive 38-foot television in the bar’s main room. More than six hours of video game competition has built to this moment.

Carlos “Los” Yancy and David “Bread” Katz are knotted in a tie, 20-20, in Madden NFL 17, the blockbuster football video game franchise. Yancy, the expected favorite at this tournament, is fending off a final drive by Katz, a Maryland native just beginning to build a reputation among competitive gamers. The winner not only pockets $3,500 but advances to a later contest in Los Angeles.

With the pressure mounting, Katz’s thin face is clenched in a serious look, his grey-green eyes pinned to the screen. As the figures on the screen snap into action, Katz’s quarterback fires off a final Hail Mary pass, connecting with a receiver who blows into the end zone for a surprise win.

“Bread!” the live-stream announcer screams as Katz’s face splits into a joyful grin. “The seventh seed upsets the top seed!” the shocked announcer continues. “I cannot believe it. The gunslinger mentality to go for it!”

“A lot of pressure on these young men,” the announcer tells the audience as the live-cast closes down. “You have to give it up to Bread.”

EA Sports, the company behind the Madden franchise, called Katz’s win the “most exciting moment in all the 2017 NFL Club Series Championships.” The Buffalo Bills tweeted out congratulations to Katz.

But the promising competitive Madden career Katz launched with his 2017 victory in Buffalo took a drastic turn Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.

Authorities have identified the 24-year-old as the suspected shooter, “pending confirmation,” after gunfire erupted at a live-streamed Madden NFL 19 qualifying tournament held at a busy mall restaurant. Two people were killed in the attack, Jacksonville County Sheriff Mike Williams told reporters Sunday night. Eleven others were taken to local hospitals, including nine gunshot victims and two people injured fleeing the scene, according to Williams. The gunman shot himself fatally, authorities said.

The investigation continues to zero in on Katz, who reportedly competed in Madden under the tag names “Bread” and “RavensChamp.” On Sunday, federal agents and local police raided a home near Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Neighbors said they have seen Katz there in the past. Police have yet to detail a motive for the shooting, although Katz was registered to compete in the Jacksonville tournament, according to the event’s website. A witness told the Florida Times-Union that the man allegedly opened fire after he was eliminated from the contest.

The shooting has delivered a blow to the tightknit Madden community just as the game’s popularity as a spectator sport--and the stakes involved--rise in the esport universe.

Once thought of as a slacker hobby, esports have become a highly competitive--and highly lucrative--pursuit for gamers in recent years. Top-ranked players compete for prize money as well as endorsement deals, with some championships offering prizes in the millions. They spend countless hours training to perfect their hand-eye coordination and fine-tune their ability to focus under pressure.

Some esports tournaments feature players competing in games that replicate traditional sports played by live athletes, like Madden NFL and NBA 2K. Others allow them to face off in games like Counter-Strike and Fortnite, which are based on battle scenarios.

According to the esports research firm Newzoo, the worldwide audience for esports is expected to reach 380 million people in 2018. Newzoo predicts that esports sponsorships for North American teams will reach $162 million in 2018.

A Washington Post-University of Massachusetts Lowell poll released this spring found that almost three-quarters of Americans between the ages of 14 and 21 had either played or watched multiplayer online games or competitions in the previous year.

For some young players, esports can be a way of paying for college. In 2014, Illinois-based Robert Morris University became the first college with a varsity esports program that offers scholarships to players, according to Engadget. Some 60 schools have followed suit and established esports teams recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Esports, while many others have unofficial programs, the site reported.

A little over a week ago, the University of Akron announced that it would be opening a 5,200-foot esports facility for its varsity, club, and recreational teams in October, touting it as the largest esports space at any university in the world. That same day, the university announced plans to phase out 80 degree programs due to low enrollment numbers.

The potential financial upshot for esport competitors rivals some traditional athletics. The five-person team that won The International 2018, a Dota 2 online battle competition that concluded over the weekend, walked away with over $11 million in prize money. Additional prizes for runners-up put the total prize pool at over $25 million.

But esports also present their own unique form of overwhelming pressure.

“There is no other sport in the world in which one day you can be a teenager playing a game by yourself, and the next day, because someone scouted you from your online account, you’re thrown onto a stage for millions to criticize,” ESPN esports reporter Tyler Erzberger wrote in a piece on the pervasiveness of mental health issues in the esports community published Friday, before the shooting. “There’s little to no assimilation period. There’s no road map for how to deal with the criticism. There’s just you, on the stage with four teammates, facing down the biggest moment of your life with no lifeline.”

Named after John Madden, a longtime pro football coach and commentator who in 2006 was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Madden NFL allows players to build a fantasy roster for their favorite NFL team and compete in online matchups. Some 46,000 people belong to /r/Madden, a Reddit community dedicated to discussing the series.

The first game in the series, John Madden Football, was released in 1988. By 2014, sales had topped $4 billion in revenue.

As of August 13th, more than 130 million copies had been sold, the game’s maker, Electronics Arts Inc., said in a news release timed with the release of Madden NFL 19, the latest version.

Despite Madden’s long-standing popularity as a franchise, the game’s status as a competitive game is only a recent development thanks to the uptick in tournaments with prize money.

Sunday’s competition was a regional qualifier for an October final round in the Madden NFL 19 Championship Series, which offers a $25,000 prize to the first place winner.

Three million players competed in the Madden NFL 18 challenge last year, which was the top-rated esports broadcast in North America, Todd Sitrin, a senior vice president and general manager for the EA Competitive Gaming Division, said earlier this month in a news release.

The release also noted that this year’s competition will have a prize pool of $700,000, the largest in the game’s 30-year history.

“People don’t realize Madden is a growing game in terms of esports,” gamer Matthew Lee told The Post. “There are guys who are going to make over $100,000 playing this year. With streaming and partnerships on top of the prize money you can win in tournaments, it’s becoming a way to make a living.”

However, the circuit remains a tight group of competitors, Lee said. Everyone knows everyone else--in part due to the intimate nature of the game. Unlike other popular esports titles like “Call of Duty” where players compete in teams, in Madden NFL it’s just you working to outsmart an opponent.

“It’s a mental chess match,” Lee said. “I liken it to a lot of card games with the way you fundamentally have to think about it. You make educated guesses, have to quickly do the math, measure possibilities. You have to outplay your opponent based on probabilities.”

The high-stakes can supercharge the emotions on the field of play.

“The Madden community is one of the most passionate and competitive groups of people you’ll ever find,” Michael Aldrighetti, a Madden competitor, told The Post. “During the actual game, it gets emotional. Frustrations mount, occasional chirping at each other. We’re competitors going at each other. Madden may be ‘just a game’, but the people and the emotions are real.”

If You See A Facebook Ad For "Choices That Matter" Avoid It At All Costs

I’m not sure if you have seen those little ads on Facebook, but it was one of the few that caught my eye. It was one of those, “Try to find the murderer” type deals where you receive a box every month with new clues. It was called, “Choices that Matter.”

Each box showed you a different “Case” and the thing that set this apart from every other one was the fact that if you managed to figure out five cases, the company promised to give you free cases for the rest of the year. I mean, at $15 a month, I was already pretty much convinced. You see, I don’t really have any hobbies, just like everyone else, I work, I eat, I sleep, sometimes I’ll play some games, but most of my free time is spent zoning out on either Reddit or Facebook.

Of course, I looked at the official website and made sure it wasn’t a scam, and within ten minutes the website processed my payment and assured me that I would be receiving my first case within the next five to seven business days.

I will give you a detailed list of what came with the first case, the ones I received after were all pretty much the same, more or less.

Inside of the first case was the following:

Small flashlight. Like one of the ones that you see at the dollar tree. (Batteries were included.)

Three pages of “Information” which was three pages of parchment type paper. It had the names of four people and reasons why each of them was a suspect.

A man named James was the one that sent me the box. They wanted to make me feel like, I’m a secret spy that works on the case in the background. He sent me four additional photographs and a magnifying glass. (real considerate of him.)

I was a bit disappointed. After looking over the pages of information and checking the photos I quickly pieced together that Ferdinand Gillerdunchi was the passionate lover that killed his girlfriend’s husband. On the third photo, I saw a little face poking out of the window of where the victim’s room was supposed to be. With the magnifying glass, I could easily make out that it was the face of Ferdinand.

Case closed, I guess.

I went on the website, logged into my account, and typed in the killer’s name. The screen stayed still for a second before bouncing to a plain white screen with the words “Thank you for catching the killer” written in red ink on the middle.

Though it was simple and easy, I was somewhat hooked. It was interactive enough for me to fully immerse myself into the case and I decided to keep going with it. Hell, I even got a couple of my coworkers to sign up as well.

The cases continued to come, and to my absolute delight, they became harder and harder. The fifth case was the most difficult. I wouldn’t have been able to figure it out until I realized a strand of brown hair taped to the back of one of the pictures. There were only two suspects that had brown hair, but one of them couldn’t have been the killer. They had an alibi that stated they were on the other side of the state of Louisiana at the time.

I logged in the name, Logan Sanders, and watched as the screen bounced to a completely black screen this time. I expected some sort of congratulatory message, but instead, five names appeared on the screen. The five names that I listed as the killer. A small X appeared on the left side of three of the names, and a O appeared on two of them. Below the names, words started to pop up and form into sentences.

I let out a nervous chuckle. I mean, it still felt like a game, I figured they would just tell me that I would have to keep paying for the cases from now on, but instead, three pictures filled the screen. The first was of Ferdinand Gillerdunchi, he was in a completely white room suspended in the air. His midsection was sliced open, and his intestines were almost touching the ground.

The second photo was a lady by the name of Molly Stover I thought she killed her husband, Brad, but I was wrong, I guess. Her body was cut into three pieces. The first piece was her head, the second was her body, and the last was her waist and legs. They were placed in random corners of the room. Brad’s corpse was distorted into a heart-shape and placed in the middle of the room.

The last one was Logan Sanders. The one I submitted just minutes ago. He was tied up to a chair in the middle of the white room, there were three children holding knives. I could see the terror in his eyes, and I couldn’t do anything. I wanted to believe it was fake, but I couldn’t. It’s hard to perfectly replicate the look of absolute fear. The same look I saw my mother give my father before he shot her in the head during the middle of an argument.

I shut my laptop off and sat in the middle of my bed. I couldn’t do anything, I didn’t want to do anything until my phone started to ring. I looked at the screen. It was a call from one of my coworkers.

I didn’t answer it, but almost immediately, I received a text from him. Slowly I unlocked my phone and looked at the text. A feeling of dread overtook me when I saw a photo of a computer screen. It showed him submitting my name in the website. Underneath the photo was a short message from him.

”HOLY SHIT DUDE. That is fucking sickkkk. I didn’t even know we could volunteer ourselves as suspects. This shit is bad ass, tell me how you did it!”

I grabbed everything I could think of. My wallet, my phone, the two portable chargers I have, $300 in cash I kept for emergencies, and my car keys. I started to run out of the front door when I saw a white van pull into my driveway. Without a second thought, I ran out the back door and kept running.

I don’t really want to say where I am right now. I’m sure they would be able to track me down easily if I did, but I’m hidden for now.

I’m not asking for help, there really isn’t much you can do for me, but if you are reading this and you see an ad for Choices that Matter don’t fucking do it. Avoid it, tell everyone else to avoid it. Don’t be like me. Even if I survive, I still have the lives of three innocent people on my conscience for life.

“I recommend the S&P 500 index fund, and have for a long, long time to people,” Buffett said, adding that, upon his death, 90% of the money he leaves his wife will go into an S&P 500 fund.

S&P 500 index funds are mutual funds or ETFs mimicking the familiar stock index that tracks 500 of the largest companies in the U.S. Despite the pandemic, the S&P 500 surged 16% in 2020, and it has been hitting new highs in 2021.

“I like Berkshire, but I think that a person who doesn’t know anything about stocks at all, and doesn’t have any special feelings about Berkshire, I think they ought to buy the S&P 500 index,” Buffett told shareholders at the meeting in Los Angeles.

Be like Buffett: Getting in on the S&P 500 through an ETF or mutual fund doesn’t require a store of cash. You can start building a diversified portfolio merely by investing your “spare change.”

2. Be practical — even when the market’s losing its mind

Though the stock market made millionaires out of people who clicked on the right Reddit thread during COVID lockdowns, Buffett has advised his investors to take a long-term, practical approach to the market rather than making “30 or 40 trades a day to profit from what looks like a very easy game.”

During the meeting, Buffett displayed a pair of slides that showed the 20 largest companies in the world by stock value today and in 1989. None of the companies on the list from ’89 was on the 2021 version. The lesson: things change, and picking winners isn’t easy.

“If you just had a diversified group of equities, U.S. equities, that would be my preference, but to hold over a 30-year period,” he said.

“The pension situation is terrible in a great many states,” Buffett said. “It has not gotten better. It has not gotten better at all, obviously.”

The pandemic has been murder on states’ finances and will only exacerbate a pension problem that currently has no long-term solution. Before the pandemic started, state pension plans were already $1 trillion short of the funding they’d need to meet their future obligations to retirees, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Be like Buffett: If you have a traditional pension plan, you may not be able to count on it to provide for you in retirement. You’ll want to get a headstart on making up for whatever shortfalls might await you.

One solid long-term investment play is farmland. The average rate of return on farmland over the past 47 years has been better than 10%. That makes it a better performer than most stocks or other forms of real estate. With worldwide demand for food rising, farmland will only grow more attractive as an asset.

4. Investors should stay wary of some investments

The coronavirus crisis has ravaged entire industries. Airlines survived with help from government support. Take that support away, and you’d be looking at an entirely new kind of airplane disaster. “I still wouldn’t want to buy the airline business,” Buffett told his Berkshire shareholders.

One of the carriers Berkshire dumped from its portfolio was Delta Air Lines, whose shares lost more than half their value between March 1 and May 15 last year. That stock has since recovered, along with those of other major U.S. airlines, but Buffett has little confidence in the sector’s economic fundamentals.

“If I owed any money at 18%, the first thing I’d do with any money I had would be to pay it off,” Buffett remembered telling her. “You can’t go through life borrowing money at those rates and be better off.”

Be like Buffett: If your credit card debt is affecting your finances, experts say a good first step toward managing it is to roll it into a debt consolidation loan.
