This is an introduction to Hozier playlist for my friend @junemermaid. The categories are a little idiosyncratic, but I think they make sense. I don't know what music services you have access to, so there are no links. I trust you can figure out how to get access to the songs.
Things I didn't know I needed words for until I heard these songs
Foreigner's God
Butchered Tongue (an introduction to the song from the Choctaw Theater in Oklahoma)
(additional reading: “A’ghailleann”: On Language-Learning and the Decolonisation of the Mind, by my friend Iona. It is about Gaelic and not having access to the first language you spoke, and how we deal with those sorts of things.)
Wry narration from self-aware narrators
Jackie and Wilson
Almost (Sweet Music)
Nobody
(What I mean is in contrast to something like this from Lord Huron. The narrator's a fucking idiot but I'm not sure he's aware of that.)
Horny but not really about sex (but not not either)
De Selby Part 2 (the video, starring fellow Irishman Domhnall Gleeson, is so pretentious, I love it to bits)
Talk (the song I'm totally going to make a Hannigram vid to, one of these days I swear)
NFWMB
Yes he really is Like That, Tumblr was not exaggerating
In a Week
Like Real People Do
In the Woods Somewhere
To be fair, I think he's gotten away from this a lot more since the debut album. People mean the bog prince nonsense affectionately, but I think they also use it as an excuse to ignore his more political songs. (On the other hand, the oatmeal.)
The way white people should cover songs by Black artists
Say My Name (more info on why he decided to cover it)
Problem > Regulate (As a child of the 90s I respect this so much)
The ones I'm really fucking angry about because they're gorgeous and beautiful and poetic
Work Song (the second song I would put on any Shepard/Garrus playlist)
Shrike
Unknown / Nth (this is an Aziraphale/Crowley song to me; the bridge fucking took me out at the knees the first time I heard it)
Abstract (Psychopomp) (This song is deeply weird in the best way. It is the perfect early oughts pop song I always wanted from Coldplay but it's about a formative and somewhat disturbing event in the narrator's childhood. But also about romantic love somehow?)
Unreal Unearth is, I think, a level up in terms of poetic lyricism.
The prettiest song you will ever hear about domestic violence and is really weird to sing along to live because of that
Cherry Wine
A disturbingly well-adjusted breakup song
All Things End
That random EDM song he did a couple years ago that's actually really good??
Tell It To My Heart

Big Festivids Recs Post!
Last weekend was the big Festivids GoLive, which meant the release into the wild of 160 brand new small fandom vids (aka fanvids, edits, etc.) Right now the collection's anonymous, but tomorrow is vidder reveals, so I wanted to write up a recs post for some of my absolute favourites from this year's collection. If you know Yuletide, well, Festivids is like Yuletide, celebrating small/weird/underappreciated fandoms! It's an exchange fest, so people ask for the small fandom vids of their heart and, then, receive one.
Honestly the collection this year is SO high quality, you should really go and browse the works yourself in their entirety; there are so many vids that I absolutely loved that I didn't put on this recs list, because I was trying not to get carried away (and also trying to get it done). But just to get you started, here are a smattering of my favourites. I tried to represent a bunch of vid genres and source types here, but ultimately it's just my taste.
RECS RECS RECS!
Andor: Level Up
AHHHH this is a vid about Andor and fascism and collective action and One Way Out and it's so gorgeously done. Perfect song choice, perfect vid, makes me cry and I will rewatch it many times.
Andor: be ready and be brave
Focusing on Ferrix, its history, its people, and its revolution. Absolute chills. Also I'm SO happy whenever I get to watch a vid to a Mountain Goats song.
Mosquita y Mari: como siempre soñé
Such a sweet, soft, slow romance vid. I ACHED for these two. Like reading a 300k slowburn but in three and a half minutes.
Dropout TV: Nothing in my Head
The Dropout TV vid of my DREAAAAAMS! (largely Game Changer but with lots of stuff in there!)
Taskmaster UK: Blood in the Cut
UHHHH. IT'S AMAZING??? It's hot and raw and kinky and hardcore. the vidder has the delicate, precise touch of a bloody scalpel. Yes, this is a vid for Taskmaster, the UK show where comedians do silly tasks. Because yeah, it's that show, but it's also this show.
Slash/Back: Uja
This vidder KNOWS how to vid horror. The way this vid cuts the most terrible images to make them barely-there, more horrifying for being rough slaps against my consciousness . . . yikes. Amazing vidding, super cool and scary, while also maintaining the uplifting, kickass, hopeful tone you want from a collective-action horror movie.
Janelle Monae: I Like That
Glorious, joyful, sexy celebration of being a free-ass motherfucker.
Star Trek: Lower Decks: Hard Times
Boimler vid about how he's essentially a redshirt who is just slightly too sweet to actually die. Absolutely adorable and hilarious.
Woman King: Upside Down
Absolute BANGER of a vid, great cuts, great movement, great character arc and great Dahomey women being amazing.
Romeo + Juliet: Magnetic
We all agree Harold Perrineau is the best Mercutio, SO, with that in mind, here is a flawless celebration of the best Mercutio.
Knives Out/Glass Onion: 'Til You Hit a Nerve
Brilliant comparison vid putting Marta from the first film together with Helen and Andi from the second one, drawing out the similarities and dissimilarities in a visual feast and with a badass powerwalk. Nothing not to love!
David Cronenberg's Films: body
This one is phenomenal. It takes David Cronenberg's entire filmography and condenses it into a vid about all the sexualized body horror. It is deeply horny and deeply disturbing and deeply fascinated by every single finger going into a hole in a body that shouldn't be there. It's soft and tentative and it's very graphic and violent, all at once.
The Wheel of Time: Velodrome
Tower politics and circularity and being bound to one another in every good way and every bad way; what a beautiful vid. I love how this is about a place, and about how that place draws these people together over and over in their shared experience and love and trauma.
The Midnight Sky: The Laughing Heart
Absolutely gorgeous vid of the film to a spoken word + music rendition of Charles Bukowski's "The Laughing Heart" (there is a light somewhere). I have not seen this film but I found this vid deeply moving.
Moby Dick: Queequeg and I
There are four (FOUR!!!) Moby Dick vids at Festivids this year, and they are all amazing combinations of a huge smorgasboard of sources, I heartily recommend them all, but I'll specifically rec two. This one is Queequeg and Ishmael to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and it is the sweetest queerest thing ever. Queequeg and Ishmael get a happy ending shhhhh they do shhhhh yes this is how it happened they came out of the water they're fine
Moby Dick: a vulture feeds upon the heart forever
This vid is a fucking masterpiece. It is a huge archival multisource Moby Dick vid that weaves all these incredibly different visual together to make a coherent, tragic narrative. And like. The BOOK is not a coherent narrative! This is such gorgeous and amazing fanwork. Don't miss out on it.
Women's 100m Sprinting: Didn't Come to Play
This is GORGEOUS, I don't know anything about sprinting but I know I love these beautiful joyful powerful women running really fast and hugging each other and being amazing. The editing on this is so tight; the vid never stops for a second. Like a sprint?!?!?!
The Golem and the Jinni: סיפור הגולם
This is another book vid, but since this book doesn't have any adaptations, it's using entirely archival source and probably some documentaries and films to construct the story - or, really, construct the vibe of the book, construct the metaphors of the book, and the result is beautiful and powerful and meditative. It's about survival, and making life.
Jesus Christ Superstar: Hope on Fire
This is another umbrella vid, where the vidder is taking a bunch of different productions of the play and mashing them together. This vid focuses on Judas and Jesus/Judas, and it all feels so inevitable and tragic and real and cruel. I really loved it.
Jordan Peele's Films: Goodbye, Honey, You Call That Gone
This is such a wonderful mashup of Jordan Peele's three films, exploring all the parallels and differences and just the rich tapestry of his imagery.
猎罪图鉴 | Under the Skin: Put It On Me
I don't know this source but this was just so gorgeously put together; there's a focus on art and art objects, on hands moving and creating, that's just mesmerizing.

i dont know if there's even a ppop presence on tumblr but i do also want to promote ALAMAT, a 6-member idol boy group from the Philippines. Its members comprise of Taneo, Mo, Jao, Tomas, R-ji, and Alas. They debuted in 2021, and their creative direction centers on championing the Filipino identity and culture through their music.
sorry that ^ was a copypaste but it's a very useful and concise copypaste LOL but onto my own promo:
(note: also most of these videos have english subs!!)
(extra note bc this issue always pops up whenever locals encounter alamat: mo is always wearing black hairstyes bc he is blasian and not bc he is appropriating from black culture hdfjhdf)
youtube
KASMALA, the inverted Tagalog word for "strong" (malakas), is the MV that really did numbers on social media iirc. The video direction focused on the "human zoo" in the St. Louis' World Fair of 1904 (which included Filipinos specifically Igorots), and a general theme of anti-Filipino racism by white people (who are represented as ominous figures literally dressed in all white)
personal opinion: the music video is great but i personally think they have better songs, music-wise. and i'm going to give you an example of that by introducing you to my ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALAMAT SONG!!!
youtube
ILY ILY, a transliteration of "Ili-Ili Tulog Anay", incorporates the melody and lyrics of the Ilonggo lullaby it derives its title from. The MV and lyrics both work together to portray the experience of being an OFW/having an OFW parent. OFWs, or overseas Filipino workers, refer to Filipinos who go abroad in search of jobs that have better pay, so that they can remit money back to their families in the Philippines.
personal opinion: this is their best song THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG EVER OF ALL TIME and lyca gairanod is such a perfect singer for this. her ethereal crooning really gave me chills the first time i heard it UGH
youtube
DAYANG, the term for the wife of a Datu, is one of their most earworming songs ever. It's a gorgeous love song and what I would recommend to newbies if they want to get into alamat <3
personal opinion: The MV is kinda ass because it's just a super long extended ad for DITO PH (in terms of story and also bc they really missed out on doing a vid that drew more on culture esp bc dayang is a historical noble title and they used tausug words and designs for the graphics an the dance itself already incorporated pangasik dance which is also from the tausug people LIKEEE?? they've always promoted other cultures of the philippines i know they can do it but because of CAPITALISM--). But the song bangs so severely, as a pop enjoyer this is peak pop for me.
OH I ALMOST FORGOT DAGUNDONG
youtube
DAGUNDONG, a song basically recounting the colonial history of the Philippines from Spain to America, is just so fucking good you should watch/listen to it rn. There's EN subs don't worry you won't miss out on the context. This is colonial rage it's so satisfying I still remember where I was when they dropped this.
personal opinion: FOREVER OBSESSED WITH HOW THEY SAY "dahil puso mandirigma di papakutsa di papapugon" you guys have no idea how much i sing that line to myself sooo satisfying. Instant earworm this song i swear.
OK ONE LAST one last and i'm done. okay.
youtube
MAHARANI, a Sanskrit term for the wife of a Maharaja (translated as "great queen"), heavily features singkil, a Maranao dance which uses bamboo poles like tinikling does. The song also uses SEAsian instruments like kanun, gamelan, and gangsa. Also BINI's Jhoanna plays one of the main characters here!!!
personal opinion: this is their most pop-sounding song, which i think is slightly carried by the video i'm sorryyy. it's catchy though!! and i looove the part somewhere halfway where alas starts his verse, singing it in a more spoken-word way
___
okay 5 songs is. probably enough. this post is already kinda long shdfjskdff but yeah. pls check them out if you can hehe <3
also ppop idols are just really funny. there's no concept of an idol image so they just tweet shit. alamat jao gave out his genshin UID after a fan tweeted about having co-oped with him in genshin, and then after that he started answering questions with the hashtag "#canceljao" making a lot of magiliws (alamat fans) confused, and then he posted a classic iphone notes apology like this 😭
Tumblr media
i'll do a bini version after this my girls deserve more international hype. they occupy a more girlcrush pop genre but they're just as chaotic as alamat if not even more 😭 there are entire THREADS on twitter of them just being hilarious jdhfkshgf i love them so much
thanks for reading <3

for the music asks: 3, 5, 15, and 18!
Hullo, Bishop!
3) if you were to get lyrics tattooed on you, which would they be? (or tell about what you already have!)
I've thought about this a lot actually! For a while I considered getting a tattoo from All as One by Miracle of Sound. (linking the 2024 remaster version). But then I thought it might be odd. Especially since I haven't actually played Dragon Age through. 😅 But if I do get a music based tattoo I'll get the idea I've considered for over a decade at this point and get The Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time tattooed on my arm. (linking the Alina Gingertail cover). Specifically I'd get the notes/bars from the game. (if you web-search 'song of storms tattoo', you can find some gorgeous examples).
5) is there a song that always makes you cry, no matter what? what is it?
Zanarkand. To be honest, it didn't make me cry the first time I heard it. But once I played through the game? And I realized... oof. Right in the feels. And I feel teary-eyed and nostalgic every time I hear it. Nobuo Uematsu is a master.
15) what is a song you are obsessed with at the moment?
You want me to choose only one????
Alright.
Unsinkable by Sail North (Warning on the video; it is very vertigo inducing if you're prone to that. I can't always watch it myself). It's just a very good song. I love it. And it works so very well for several of my characters.
18) what's a song that you absolutely cannot help dancing to?
The Wellerman, particularly Nightcore versions (flashing lights in vid). This is another one of my favorite versions of it.
Thank you so much for the ask! I love music. ^^ 💕💕

Hello there!
!!!First of all: MEGA TRIGGER WARNING!!!
- Major Character Death
That being said;
The girls who know me know I’m way more of a fluff girl than an angst queen. So I might surprise you that I made the worst possibility happen in this video.
Well, let me explain that a bit further. I love reading fics and I stumbled across ‘Everthing’s gonna be alright’ from Silverinia. And wow did that knock me off my feet. That fic is so tragic and utterly sad, making me want to cry my eyes out and watch minion vids to cheer me up. But I just couldn’t put it away. Nina her writing is something else. SO gorgeous and well put together, that I just couldn’t stop.
After a while I heard the spoken word music piece from Forest Blakk again, called ‘Find Me’. (Rex! It’s your favorite song/piece of him, right?!)
And it just clicked. In my opinion it suits Nina her fic in many ways, so I tried combining the song & the fic with McHart scenes from TGW/TGF, and this is what turned out if it;)
POV: Diane losing herself(in psilocybin) after Kurt passing away. Black/White -ish clouded scenes are dreams or hallucinations.
Feel free to leave a comment and thanks thanks thanks for watching ❤️
All the love,
Abby
PS I promised my sis Ola that the next one will drowned with fluff

Fanworks Con 2023 Vid Premieres Squee Recs Here’s my squee-and-recs for the @fanworkscon 2023 vidshow Premieres! There’s a few vids that I haven’t found online yet but I still included them because they’re great and I’ll edit the post when I find links. I haven’t managed to watch any of the premieres from the It Follows vidshow yet but for now!! Enjoy the bounty of awesome new vids for many fandoms. Over 20 recs under the cut!
Some humorous and lighthearted vids...
Don’t Be a Lawyer by starlady This vid!!! She-Hulk!! To a song from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Really nailing the humor of the show, the breaking the 4th wall and it’s just even funnier with this song. I was wheezing the whole fucking time.
Sexy and I Know It by nestra Oh my god it’s Jamie Tartt from Ted Lasso. I laughed, I wheezed. Jamie Tartt is indeed sexy and he knows it. This is so much fucking FUN.
Four words on the top of your tongue by donteatthebee Okay apparently this is for this new show called Vice Principals and I have no idea what is gong on in this vid (nobody in chat did either). But what we do know is that Walton Goggins is fucking incredible and you get two middle aged men who love each other and even hump each other on screen and give each other pining and adoring looks? Well of course people’s fannish ears are gonna perk up. Amazing use of Taylor Swift, I still have no idea what’s going on by the end of the vid except that they will do anything for each other. What the fuck was that hot tub scene? Amazing. Also note the amazingly bland and dorky ties they are wearing. I have seen enough to know that I will watch this show. Odds Are by rhea Omg this is for 9-1-1 and truly the pinnacle of ODDS ARE. This show is too ridiculous for words. “Struck by lightening” repeats how many times in this song? And every single clip is different lightning!! Everybody goes through so much. Lmao. Beautiful people and family and gay folks and feelings. Shades of Purple by BlueshiftOfDeath Vice Principals vid about Gamby and Russell loving each other. There’s also a tiger and some shooting and I still don’t know what is going on but I’m also seeing arson and… Wow there is so much happening. There’s clips in this vid that I didn’t see in the other Vice Principals vid and I am even more intrigued. I’ve also never heard this song before but the vibe of the music is *chefs kiss* Consider me recruited. Duel of the Fates by jonesandashes, pollyrepeat Star Wars. I was NOT PREPARED FOR THIS VID. Oh my god I am howling. I was not prepared for the song and… everything else. Literally just giggling and covering my face the whole vid saying “whatttttt??” over and over.  This might be the greatest Obi-Wan vid I’ve ever seen. How the glass breaks on the beat at 2:06!!!! Sheer perfection.
At Your Pace by Rhea 9-1-1 show ‘cos that’s where Rhea’s heart lies and it is SO FULL OF LOVE FOR THIS SHOW. This vid is all about Buck and Eddie being an amazingly slashy couple. Also reminded me how I never finished the first season but damn they are so slashy and adorable together. This vid gave me the warm fuzzies and nostalgic slashy feelings.
Amazing vids with Amazing Vibes...
Heated by ultraviolet_catastrophe BEYONCE VID!!! I haven’t seen a Beyonce fanvid in awhile. All I could think while watching this is just how much fun it must have been going through all the music videos because damn the production quality and style of Beyonce’s music videos is gorgeous and yummy to watch, whewww. Outstanding editing here.
Underworld by VielMouse Alright so this is Stargate the movie with some video game music from also a 90s game. Someone in chat said “is this what taking acid feels like?” and honestly I think that is the right question to be asking while watching this. Wild and sonorous and, great overlays that really did put me back in 1994. Also Jaye Davidson is so fucking beautiful, my god. Outstanding vid. Love seeing Stargate again. Amazing vibes. The Wandering Song by periru3 This is a vid for the comic/animation Over the Garden Wall. Which I have no idea what that’s about but this animation is gorgeous and the editing is ALL VIBES for THIS WHOLE SONG.   Hush, Little Baby by bStro The Sandman vid! INSPIRED song choice for the cover of Enter Sandman. Amazing look at Death, Desire and Johanna Constantine, Lucienne throughout the show with some incredible money shots of Dream of the Endless, of course. But waaahhhh this is supremely epic and satisfying to watch.
Some vids about living in an age of resistance...
A Hazy Shade of Winter by Jayne L (JayneL) The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance vid! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this vid is epic. This definitely has become the vid that I will forever associate with this song (and I have even vidded this song before, hah). This vid has incredible pacing and uses the stunning visuals of the show so well. I didn’t want to blink the whole time because I didn’t want to miss a single frame. Like, damn. Epic.
The hammer and the nail by stardust_rain Star Wars. Cassian Andor’s political education. Fuuuuuuuck. Mind the warnings on this vid, naturally, but y’all?? Do you all know how amazing it is to see Thea Gillmore music used in a vid?? Lyrics + tone of the song is so perfect for Andor. The pacing has me nodding and grooving along and it’s definitely a must-watch if you are into the show.
Multi-source vids that will make your jaw drop...
This is It by sandalwoodbox This is a pan-fandom vid (over 50 sources!!) about characters playing Go. It’s brilliant and it took me about halfway through the vid to actually notice each clip features a character playing black or white and throughout the vid the whole game is progressing, holy fuck, it’s so much fun and the lyrics are bangin’ for it too.
Bicycle Race by seekingferret Putting a Queen song to ALL THE BICYCLES EVER! There’s so many movies and tv shows in this vid and the progression of bicycle riding and then the moving frames with everyone riding their bicycle just escalates the fun. I keep losing it when I get to the bell chiming section and everyone starts falling off the bicycles, wahaha.
Relationship dynamics like whoa... A and B Song by mithborien A new Steve/Bucky vid FROM MITIHBORIEN!! I have been loving mithborien’s vids for an eternity now and oh my god just roll up into the con with a new Steve/Bucky vid and smack me back into my slashy feelings all over again. Tom McRae used to get around in fanvids ages ago but man I was so happy to hear him again for this vid in particular. The lyrical associations are fabulous. I feel wrung out after watching this vid.
Destroying Angels by Tafadhali Yellowjackets. Shauna/Jackie, fucked up teenage sapphics and cannibalism. This show is so fucked up and this vid doubly so, for all the right bad reasons whew. I was watching this and literally muttering “oh fuck” every 15 seconds. The vocalist is eerie, the underlying instrumentation during the verses is HAUNTING and foreboding. This vid does not pull any punches. The lyrics about ink and blood on her shoes and icy skin??  It’s a very intense vid..
Grandpa Never Gives Up His Money by ghost_lingering OMG NEW GHOST LINGERING VID!! This is for the 2018 film Trust about Paul Getty’s family. Whew the content warnings. Eat the rich. What an incredible use of The Beatles, too. The tonal shift at 1:15 is killer and holy crap this vid just keeps going and going and GOING and everything gets worse and…what a fucking rollercoaster, holy fuck. I’ve never seen this film but goddamn. A great vid for a fucked up family and movie. I’m kind of obsessed with the edits on the guitar in the last minute of this vid, too. Incredible stuff.
Don’t Take the Money by Anoel - not uploaded yet I don’t think? Will edit this post when I find the video online. Tag me if you see it! This is a Succession siblings vid and honestly I was not sure what to expect because I thought it was going to be the original song but it’s actually an MTV Unplugged cover featuring The Bleachers and Lorde. And oh my god it just really epitomizes how much the right cover can do wonders for a vid idea. Jesus Christ. These siblings got so fucked up and fucked over by Logan and that just hurts even more when you see all the human moments the siblings have for each other in this vid.
Heartwrenchingly beautiful and aching vids...
Man is Not Made by His Fractures by videobaths - also not uploaded yet? If someone sees this online somewhere please tag me?? Moon Knight vid!! “A man is not made by his fractures; he is able to mine them as a chance to emerge whole.” Aw, I really fucking love Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Marc. This is a song I’ve never seen vidded before! Lil’ Was X’s Tales of Dominica. “Sometimes you’re angry / sometimes you’re hurting / sometimes you’re all alone.” If that isn’t the epitome of Marc’s life I don’t know what it is. Spectacular editing through and through. Live to Tell by AurumCalendula Star Trek TOS, Animated Original Series and Star Trek Discovery. A whole vid focusing on the Guardian of Forever! And the portal and the characters who go through the portals. Aurum’s cropping of the disco footage was so interesting and I think it did a lot to help it fit in with the other footage because everything is filmed so differently. But Aurum always makes my heart sing or ache and this is no exception. The difficulties of saying goodbye, aaaaahHHHhhh, just masterful storytelling here.
I Remember Damage by ohvienna An Ilsa Faust fanvid using a voice over from Station Eleven. Voiceover vids as the main audio track can be hit or miss for me but damn this really hit me. Just nailing the hurt and pain and perseverance in the face of unbeatable odds and coming back to your person time and time again. Fucking realness here.
The World You Thought You Lived In by BeatriceEagle This is: Adventure Time, Stargate SG-1, Farscape, The Magicians and Star Trek: The Next Generation. This vid explores what it is like for characters who are trapped living an entire life during a day. Heartwrenchingly beautiful. And painful! Cause then they lean into living out their life. But then the day ends and the characters have to go back to their other life. Aaaah, “say goodbye to the world you thought you lived in.” 😭😭😭😭 Very good pain.
Thousand Eyes by nu_breed_vids (nu_breed) This is a Korean TV show 손 : The Guest (TV). Åppears to be horror and trauma and really walloping the main character with the angst and whump. Mind the vidder notes/tags. In fact the vidder tagged this “Yoon Hwapyung is a whump magnet” which seems to track. The song choice is so ominous and slow-burn-y and goddamn, I’m not sure if this is some kind of demonic possession or whatever but I gotta check it out. The instrumental section with the drums and escalating strings is so TERRIFYINGGG with the blood and pain and losing himself. My god.
Blow your mind intense vids...
Psycho by lolachrome 长月烬明 | Till the End of the Moon (TV). A new Lola vid!! This is so fucking lush and gorgeous and the fucking attitude of this devil god character is fucking dreamy and intoxicating and terrifying at the same time.
Reincarnation by ExtraPenguin Star Wars sequel trilogy. Rey vid!! This is a constructed reality vid about Rey being the reincarnation of Anakin. The editing on this is so fucking slick and intense and incredible. So warning for lots of quick cuts and later flickering lightening shots. Oh my god. The intercutting between Rey and the original trilogy footage. I am foaming at the mouth. This vid is a (ahem) force to be reckoned with. It’s so cool and interesting to see Star Wars canon get recontexualized for this concept. And it’s executed so well!! Do watch if you are a Star Wars fan.
Never forget the antiheroes and misfits... Antihero by theletterelle Loki vid! It’s exhausting to always be rooting for the antihero. Oh, this is definitely reawakening my Loki feelings. The lyrics (especially the chorus!!) are so good for Loki. Do love, will watch again.
Superstar by sandalwoodbox A Nimona vid!! To Tegan and Sara! Oh holy fuck, I’ve come to expect and hope for awesome vids for this movie but this one is dark and still grooving with the beat. I did not expect this song to work so well with fame and propaganda. Oh my god, Gloreth's betrayal and Nimona and all the fallout with that. My. Goddddd. "I saw my first angel and it was you" omg NIMONA. Goddamn, these lyrics really punch you in the face.

I cannot technically see myself in that crowd picture, BUT I AM THERE! I was at barricade in front of that far security guard. I cannot even explain how good Saturday was?! My mom went with me and we had some Daiquiri Factory before lining up for VIP since it was across the street from the venue. The theatre was also really pretty and air conditioned very well, like I was chilly between sets and I was in sweatpants. Holy fuck, Cody, Maxx, and Zach are all such incredibly nice dudes! I generally try not to dump anything too personal on famous people, but I had to thank them for getting me through “this fuckass year” (and those were my exact words) since I lost my dad suddenly in January. The sympathy was so evident on all their faces and then Cody gave me a huge hug since he knows what it feels like. They signed some stuff for us and then took photos which I’ll post when I get the JPEGs, or at least the one of me and the guys since my mom doesn’t like having her picture posted usually. We got to chat a little more and my mom was talking to Maxx about Elvis since when we first met them in Sept ‘22 he told her he liked her Elvis shirt and she wore another one to this concert. Cody also gave me a SECOND HUG and CALLED ME SWEETHEART. I’m surprised I didn’t just shoot straight up to the ceiling and stay there all night like a little green haired gremlin. All three of them are so lovely!
The show itself was so fucking good! I’m gonna have to find all the setlists from the other bands and download some music because everyone was so good! I recognized a song or two by If Not for Me and From Ashes to New, but hadn’t heard anything from New Years Day other than knowing it was Ash on Partners in Crime. Ash is literally so gorgeous, btw! She came down and hugged the two girls next to me and then held my hand during a song! She then climbed up on the barricade in front of me later and I had to lean back because I didn’t want an accidental face in her tits situation.
Everyone also kept walking on the bannister and I was terrified they’d fall every single time. The side I was on also won loudest side of the theater twice. Everyone around me was literally so hyped, it wasn’t really surprising we smoked that other side!
Set It Off absolutely killed it like always! They come out and give it absolutely everything they have! Zach was over in front of our little section a lot which was super cool! I was already having the absolute time of my life and then Killer in the Mirror started and, holy fuck y’all! Cody was on barricade in the middle and then started toward the right side where I was and I figured he would just run up the steps. He ended up on the barricade right in front of me and GRABBED AND HELD MY HAND FOR A SECOND!!! I was just staring at him with some stupid, googly heart eyes and came thisclose to bursting into tears right after. I have basically been ruined for any other concert experience after this.
I do have pics and vids I took that I’ll post after sorting and getting them all synced and transferred to my iPad.

MOVIES WITH MEN IN UNDERWEAR (This is outdated- website shutdown early 2000’s)
“G”
Galaxy Quest (1999) Sci-fi comedy. "Commander Peter Quincy Taggart" (Tim Allen) is at home, asleep on the couch, hungover and trouserless, when awestruck friendly aliens come to visit.
Garp A locker room scene with several unidentified actors in jocks.
Georgy Girl Alan Bates in a couple of shots in his Jockey briefs.
Gharwali Baharwali (1998) Indian musical comedy. An overweight, middle-aged manager ritually humiliated, being stripped, head-shaved and left as a beggar in his underwear (white undershirt and big boxers).
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) Crime drama. Ghost Dog robs a couple at gunpoint off-camera, and they emerge into the street, the woman in her skimpy bra and panties and the man in his boxers.
Ghostbusters (1984) I can't believe that there has been no mention of the first underwear scene in a movie that I ever came across. Ray Stanz (played by Dan Ackroyd) is having a dream in which this female ghost is hovering above his bed moments before she vanishes into thin air. He looks around, obviously perplexed, and then his belt gets undone; the button on his pants is next, instantaneously followed by the unzipping of his zipper and then, his pants are opened. Voila! White briefs.
Gig, The (1985) Drama. A charming film, and including some of the middle-aged leads in their underwear.
Gimme an 'F' (1984) One of the main characters strips down to his white briefs and dances around the shower room. He does this for quite a while and gets them very wet.
Girl 6 (1996) Comedy. Phone-sex caller, a slim, fortyish black man, acts out his baseball-hitter fantasy in a room painted up as a stadium, wearing a baseball helmet and a white jock strap.
Girls Are for Loving (1973) Crime movie. At some point, just about everybody ends up naked and bound in one way or another. One interesting scene: two evil henchman have been captured and bound nearly naked with their hands above their heads.
Glitz (1988) (TV) Action/thriller. An attacker fires at Jimmy Smits, who's in bed with Linda Moon at the time. Clad only in his briefs, Smits chases after the guy, out into the street.
Gloria (1999) Thriller. "About 20 minutes into the film (which doesn't compare to the original), there is a cool scene where Sharon Stone forces her criminal ex-boyfriend and his henchmen to strip naked at gunpoint. Rear nudity only, but very intense scene. Every guy seems to have on a different type of undies. I watched the video with my roommate and she couldn't stop laughing at the guy with the leopard print briefs".
Go (1999) Close-up shots of Scott Wolf in his briefs, being wired for sound with a hidden transmitter attached to his thigh. Also, another guy putting on his dark boxer shorts in a suggestive scene.
Gods and Monsters (1998) In one scene, Whale mischievously makes a flamboyant, young male reporter remove an article of clothing for every question that he answers (until the man's down to his underwear).
Gods Must Be Crazy, The (1980) Comedy. Startled by a warthog while taking off his wet clothes, guy flees pants-down in his red briefs.
Going Ape! (1981) Tony Danza running around in a hospital gown and his briefs ... at end of movie.
Gold Rush Boys (XXX) ****my favorite*** This porn-vid is chock full of hot young "pioneer" men in union suits having fun in an all-male bordello. There are quite a few tender scenes (kissing, etc.) One gorgeous guy spends most of the movie falling out of his maroon union suit. Very sexy!! (Sorry I don’t know which studio made this - but I’m sure of the title.)
Gone Fishin' (1997) A witless comedy that at the very end has both Joe Pesci and Danny Glover caught with their pants around their ankles, showing their colorful boxer shorts.
Good Burger (1997) Mild, juvenile comedy. Disguised in drag to spy on a rival burger operation, the heroes are caught and unmasked - revealing the chubby one in his blue and white plaid boxer shorts, and the slim one embarrassed to be discovered in drag all the way down to women's underwear.
Good Man in Africa, A (1994) Colin Friels wears comic loud printed boxer shorts, as Diana Rigg sews his costume. Later, he must exchange every piece of clothing he has on with John Lithgow - even down to boxers and briefs being switched.
Good Will Hunting (1997) Drama. Matt Damon in white boxers in scene with Minnie Driver.
Goodbye Bird, The (1993) Chris Pettiet. His mother knocks on the the door...he gets up wearing only blue silk boxer shorts - you can see his pecker bouncing in his boxers.
Goodbye, Columbus (1969) Michael Meyers in boxer shorts, has a vapid conversation with Richard Benjamin. He is a fairly well-built jock with a rather empty mind.
GoodFellas (1990) Crime drama. Gangsters go to kill their oversleeping driver (Tony Sirico). Unsuspecting, in his yellow undershirt and briefs, he opens the door to them.
Gotcha! (1985) Anthony Edwards standing in Jockeys, briefly. Short scene but NICE.
Gotham (1988) (TV) Thriller. Two scenes with Tommie Lee Jones in a white A-shirt and white boxer shorts, one early in the movie when J.B. White wakes him up, and another later in the film while making love to Virginia Madsen.
Graduate, The (1967) A young preppy-looking Dustin Hoffman gets seduced by Mrs. Robinson, and winds up in bed with her in his white trim-cut boxer shorts.
Grandview, U.S.A. (1984) Drama. C. Thomas Howell spends the night with Jamie Lee Curtis. In the morning, he's awakened when the her boyfriend arrives ... in his trim plaid boxer shorts, he has to get to his pants on the other side of the room, but picks the wrong moment and is seen through the doorway. There is also a scene with Patrick Swayze in patterned boxers, and two scenes with Troy Donahue in printed boxers.
Grease ?
Great Balls of Fire! (1989) Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis parades around this movie in loudly printed full-cut boxer shorts from time to time.
Great Santini, The (1979) Michael O’Keefe (most recently on Roseanne) plays a high school student who has Robert Duvall, military officer, for a father. Dad wakes O’Keefe up in the early morning of his 18th birthday to give him his present. O’Keefe is wearing nothing but white briefs.
Greedy (1994) Michael J. Fox in grey Calvins.
Green Mile, The (1999) Drama. Crazy death row inmate "Wild Bill" (Sam Rockwell) in a union suit.
Gremlins 2 (The New Batch) (1990) Mr. Clamps walks outta bathroom in his office in a pair of blue boxers, he then puts on a pair of pants (too bad).
Grim Prairie Tales (1990) Creepy short story compilation. In one segment, an old-west gunman is seen for a moment in his white undershirt and briefs.
Gross Anatomy (1989) Matthew Modine in bed in white briefs and maroon T-shirt.
Guarding Tess (1994) A minor Nicolas Cage movie with Shirley McLaine. Brief scene of Nick interrupted as he is sitting on the john taking a dump, with pants down and colored boxers very visible around his knees.
Guelwaar (1992) Drama. In an early scene at a police station, watch closely for two prisoners, stripped to their white briefs, crossing the scene in the background.
Guide for the Married Man, A (1967) Joey Bishop is caught with his pants down by his wife. Seen in his white full-cut boxers and with a pretty girl, Joey denies it all.
Guns of Navarone, The (1961) Classic WWII action. Scene of Germans officers being stripped for their uniforms.

I am loving this Redacted match-up idea. So here goes mine! 😃
• The song my brain’s latched onto right now is “Make Me Cry” by Jacob Collier. The vibes are so perfect. It’s so mellow, and his voice is so freaking comforting. Like…smooth, thick hot chocolate or something. If that even makes sense XD
• I…have no idea what my Ennegram type is. But I’ll totally tell you some other things! I’m a Libra, a Hufflepuff, and last time I checked, my Myers-Briggs type is INFJ? But don’t quote me on that. XD
• Alas, I don’t think I’ve got enough of an attention span to sit through a video essay 😅
• I never really had an imaginary friend as a kid, tbh 🤔
• “Flirty Vampire Boyfriend Helps You Sleep” knocks me out almost every time I listen. So, most nights, it’s that video.
• If I had to change my name, I’d probably change it to Grace. (That’s what it would have been if I wasn’t the name my parents *did* decide to give me)
• Man, that’s a hard question! Buuuut I gotta say, every time I think of my favorite Redacted vids, Vincent’s third video (the one where he “loses control” with Lovely) comes to mind. I might be biased though, because Vincent was my introduction to the channel, but it’s such a good one! The drama. 😍 I freaking love it. We’re not gonna talk about Adam, though, because he terrifies me. XD
• Honestly? I don’t get the hype around David. Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m not a huge fan of Tsunderes (which is funny to me, because I love Aaron) and that I prefer vampires to werewolves anyway, but I dunno. He’s just not my cup of tea.
• I could quote Avatar: The Last Airbender all day long. Don’t even get me started. XD SECRET, SECRET, SECRET, SECRET TUNNEEEEEEELLLLL!
• I want Elliott as a BFF, please and thank you. 🥺
• I wouldn’t say I ramble about this when I’m tired, but if someone else shares the interest too, I’ll talk about musicals for forever.
• Well..I don’t drive, so I don’t really visit many gas stations. XD But my combo would probably be a bottle of water and a bag of mini M&Ms.
• It’s actually a Spotify playlist that my best friend and I made for one of my OCs. 🥰
• This is embarrassing to admit, but I still watch stuff that’s “for kids” from time to time. Barbie movies, Strawberry Shortcake, Sofia the First, pretty much any “girly” show that’s made for someone way younger than 24? I love it. 😊 (It’s probably a comfort thing, now that I think about it)
• Let’s see… Other fun facts 🤔. I’m the “youngest” of four (by like, five minutes, so I don’t know if that really means anything), and if you couldn’t tell from this ask, I use emojis up the butt, and am a total stickler for proper grammar. 😂
Tumblr media
Oh, so I’ve actually thought about this- you know who’d pair wonderfully with someone from a big family? Huxley with his gorgeous, friendly nature and open heart.
He’s just so natural to love and get along with, so easy-going and charming. Our favorite earth elemental would be so mind-boggled by all your siblings but also delighted, just like your family would delight in him and how well-suited the two of you are together-
-and the two of you are so cute together. Huxley has this steady, reliable nature while also being fun and silly and light. I can totally see him genuinely enjoying all the things you do, even the shows for little girls that you’d be initially embarrassed for him to see you watching. No one is immune to the power of Barbie Nutcracker, and Huxley is no exception. He is ready with popcorn, a cozy blanket, and open arms for a movie night.
Song:
Earth angel, Earth angel, the one I adore/ Love you forever, and ever more./ I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you.
So this works on 3, count ‘em, THREE levels. One! Earth Angel for an earth elemental? I am a fucking genius. Two. I love the fun, dreamy, romantic vibe for Huxley; it strikes me as something he likes because he heard his moms listen to it. Three. I will seize any and all opportunities to plug a musical, and the Back to the Future musical is so FUN.
Runner-Ups:
Guy is an easy-peasy runner up, because I love to pair musical theater babes together. (I was so sure that was his major before we learned it was creative writing.) I also love Ollie for you, because (fuck JK Rowling and all she stands for but) we love to pair a Hufflepuff with a Hufflepuff.
Note: highly recommend the Back to the Future musical which is rumored to make its Broadway debut soon, it’s very true to the vibes of the movie 🌈
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

Listed: Jesse Kivel
Tumblr media
Jesse Kivel has been making indie rock music since the aughts, first in the hyper-literate band Princeton with his twin brother Matt and later in synth-dance-y Kisses. Now living in Maine and newly a dad, he recorded his best material yet in the second solo album, Life and Death at Party Rock. In her review at Dusted last month, Jennifer Kelly wrote, “Kivel has suddenly scratched below the surface, finding an unexpected, melancholy beauty in loosely collated daydreams. Life and Death at Party Rock haunts rather than pleases.” Here’s what Kivel has in his listening queue.
Bobby McFerrin — By The Sea
youtube
My friend Michael passed me this video years ago and I was just blown away by the talent, skill and concentration displayed in this performance. A lot of times we focus on the recorded version of a song, but in this case, Bobby makes a simple song transform into a technical feat of emotion and beauty.
Oasis — Live by The Sea (full concert)
youtube
Oasis was the band that changed everything for me. My brother and I would pretend to be Noel and Liam, snarling and playing Noel’s simple yet powerful solo's. We also snagged all of their live concert videos, including this one. Nothing beats Liam’s swagger in this moment and the energy and excitement this group could bring.
Alessi Brothers — Seabird (live)
youtube
This song was on a compilation or mixtape I received a while back. Gorgeous vibes and perfect to play in the early evenings. Also, keeping up with the brother/identical twin theme that has defined my life and creative output.
Linda McCartney — Seaside Woman
youtube
One of my wife Zinzi’s favorite songs, this tune has incredibly energy and feel. The lyrics are a touch problematic, and I truly can't be sure that Paul didn't write this one. He is basically singing through the entire thing, and it sounds like his vibe. Regardless, it is a lovely tune and I really like Linda’s solo record.
Beck — Guess I'm Doing Fine: Sea Change
Easily my favorite Beck record. It speaks to some of the natural textures and feelings I was trying to put on my new LP. This record reminds me of visiting a college in Atlanta. I slept over on campus and this record helped me sleep in a strange/unknown environment.
Don Gibson — Sea of Heartbreak
youtube
An iconic and classic tune, covered by everyone from Jonny Cash to Van Morrison. Gorgeous and simple, like many of those late 50’s/early 60’s tunes of yesteryear.
Phil Phillips & The Twilights — Sea of Love
youtube
I am 38 so most of my friends and peers know the Cat Power version of this. I have love for that cover as it exposed me to the original. I love the crisp and focused way the original is recorded. Eerie and slightly haunting, it is a beautiful tune.
Jesse Kivel — Overgrown Ocean
youtube
I would be nothing if not a shameless self-promoter :) This song is about visualizing myself crashing down into Penobscot Bay on a Cape Air Cessna. I wrote the lyrics to this song on my first flight with Cape Air which was incredibly foggy and overwhelming. As we cut through the clouds, an overwhelming calm reached me, and the lyrics are a meditation on death and finding peace with it.
Dennis Wilson — Pacific Ocean Blues
youtube
Growing up in Southern California, all I can say is I can relate to Dennis and the blues that often can accompany living in the region. The relentless sun and lack of seasons can really do someone in. Dennis, to his credit, correctly points out over and over in this song that the Pacific Ocean is blue. I appreciate his clear-eyed perception here.
Wilco + Billy Bragg — The Secret of The Sea
youtube
Wilco and Billy Bragg both have loomed large in my early musical education. Separately with their early records and then this Woody Guthrie collaboration. My brother and I went to Tulsa to visit Guthrie's museum a few years ago. While the Dylan one was put together more tastefully, I just remember relating to Guthrie as all his notebooks had endless amounts of mundane lists. This captured my heart as this is essentially all I do with my notebooks as well.

are you still accepting requests? if yes, could you please write one about solo and it’s music vid? i don’t know what is in the air these days but i’ve been extra obsessed with it 🥹🥹. thank youuuu!
😅 idk what it is about the ‘Solo’ MV ... I literally can’t figure it out. Is it him chasing after the girl? Him telling the story about how he got the girl? In the end scene in bed you can clearly see his tattoos but throughout the MV viewers are left to believe the girl already has a bf and Jay is trying to snatch her away from him 🤷‍♀️ … or is that just me?🤔😅
______________________________________________
Wherever Jay went, girls seemed to flock around him. Their eyes trained on him, they’d follow his every move, marveling at the sight of him.
Jay was well aware of that, it was very flattering to say the least, but he never imagined to walk up to one of those girls. It would just be too easy, and Jay, as every man, loved the chase.
Then, one day, when he expected it the least, his hunting instincts got triggered.
Turning around at the exact same time she emerged from the elevators, his eyes met the most gorgeous, beautiful, desirable woman he ever saw.
Forgetting why he was at a hotel in the first place, he left his manager hyung at the reception and followed the girl outside.
Maintaining a safe distance, he followed her down the street where she turned left into a less busy neighborhood and directly steered towards a small cafe.
As he was about to push the door open, he received a rather angry text from his manager, prompting him to abandon his plan. For the moment.
Realizing that she must be staying in the same hotel, he relaxed, knowing that the chances of him running into her again were big.
And so it happened that the next day Jay found himself in the same elevator as his dream girl.
Feeling more nervous than usual, he thought about how to best strike up a conversation while the numbers on the display rose constantly. Before he could say anything, she arrived at her floor, getting off while nodding at Jay. That short eye contact, her faint smile and those adorable dimples almost gave him a heart attack.
While peeking into the dining hall that same night, he saw her sitting at a table, eating by herself. Immediately he changed his plans, announcing to his manager hyung that he didn’t need to leave the hotel and if his manager hyung wanted to go out to eat, he could go by himself.
Determined to finally talk to her, he initially sat on the neighboring table, stealing glances at her. Then, when she caught him looking and reciprocated his gaze, he finally mustered up all his courage, uttering a single, 2-letter word.
“Hi.”
It wasn’t that Jay was cocky, but from his experience, that was enough to catch a girl’s attention.
Not this girl’s attention though.
While she returned his greeting with a smile, she seemed to ignore him otherwise.
“Are you from around here?”
He mentally facepalmed himself. Would she stay at a hotel if she was a local?!
She giggled, obviously amused by Jay’s clumsiness.
“I’m here for work.”
“Me, too!”
~
Who knew that the girl he fell head over heels with, would be the leading lady in his latest music video!
Jay mentally high-fived himself when the music video director introduced her to him two days later.
Although he always was a part of the process when it came to discussing ideas for his music videos or casting people to appear in them, this time he was simply too busy and left everything in the director’s care.
Needless to say that he was over the moon because he would finally get close to her. From the minute the cameras started rolling, people were praising the chemistry between Jay and the girl, anticipating that it would be an enjoyable experience.
Jay, for his part, used the time he spent with her in front of the cameras to woo her, completely forgetting about acting and just being himself. It helped that he was very comfortable with her and could tell that she felt the same way. By the time the crew wrapped up filming for the day, Jay and his love interest had completely forgotten about the cameras and were simply enjoying each other’s company.
The director yelling ‘cut’ made them both jump, giggle, and go back to their shy demeanor.
Jay was unable to sleep that night, wondering one too many times if she was thinking about him too.
Day 2 of filming started the way the first day ended. Immediately, Jay and the girl went back to doing their thing and ignoring the cameras. Even the director praised them for their natural talent, saying that this felt like two people on a real date.
Jay agreed when he watched the footage later that day. He could also unmistakably see that she was enjoying it too. That she was as interested in him as he was in her.
Without wasting another second, he asked around the crew and found out her room number. He knocked on her door, not knowing what to say to her when she stood in front of him.
“Come in!”, she said instead, catching him off-guard. They sat next to each other, feeling rather awkward. When Jay began to say something, it was then that the girl decided to speak up as well.
“No. You first!”, he urged her.
“I had fun this last few days.”, she began and it became clear to Jay that she was holding back.
“I did too.”
“I was wondering if…”
“Can I have your number?”, he caught her off, realizing that mit must’ve been embarrassing for her to ask for his number.
Her face lit up and she nodded, while Jay handed her his phone.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then!”
It was the last day of filming, they basically only had to film the post credit scene and maybe re-shoot a couple scene the director wanted to come out differently.
As Jay laid next to her in bed, he could hear his heart beating fast. Chances were, she could too.
“Action!”, the director shouted out and the tape started rolling.
Jay messed up a few times, blaming nerves and the fact that he was laying next to this beautiful girl.
Finally, after five takes, the director was happy and wrapped up the shoot. Clearing his throat, he whispered close to her ear, so that the crew around them wouldn’t hear.
“We should do this again, but without the cameras next time.”

What are your favorite fanvids, if you don't mind me asking?
ty, I appreciate your interest!
I have so many though lol, I have like a folder of vids I've saved throughout the years and I still occasionally rewatch a lot of them. So this ended up turning into a giant rec list instead of an offer of one or two.
These are mostly old classic live action vids from the 00s with just a few exceptions. Not in any particular order aside from grouping fandoms together. I tried to warn for physical triggers but I may have missed some since I haven't rewatched all these vids recently.
You Can Call Me - sdwolfpup (Due South)
I consider this my all-time favourite vid. The reason it's so good is less about the visual impact and more about clip choices imo. Every choice is just brilliant. The basketball on shot at redemption; each character walking down the street in a direction illustrative of their vibe; the evolving framing structure with Ray and Ray's finale scene in the bullpen; angels in the architecture; the smile on hallelujah; and most especially - the way Fraser's chorus opens up onto the show as a whole rather than just the relationships between him and the Rays. It's a perfect love letter to the show.
Phoenix - scribe (Due South)
I actually have not watched this vid very many times because it hits me too hard lol. No cathartic tears, just a physical ache in my chest. It's a fantastic constructed reality vid but mostly I watch it and go RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.
Zebra by shalott (Due South)
Fast-paced and jarring, purposefully and successfully so. A character study that really captures the vibe of the character.
cw: fast cuts
Icebound Stream - sisabet (Due South)
Gorgeous use of found footage, visually stunning, amazing all around.
cw: mild flashing effects
Out Here - Here's Luck (Due South)
This vid is absolutely outstanding at constructing a mood and building emotional tension up to a cathartic release, and I would absolutely recommend watching it especially if you've never seen Due South because I'm gonna be real: I don't ship them I don't like these seasons and when I recall some of the contexts of the scenes in the vid they're actively diminished lol. This feels more like a constructed reality vid to me, and a very very successful one. It takes my breath away.
Satellite - sdwolfpup (Due South)
Just a classic solid ship vid for my favourite ship.
Handlebars - flummery (Doctor Who)
I watched this when it was posted, having never heard the song before so I had no idea what to expect, and it blew my tits clean off. Absolutely impeccable sense of escalation, and the constructed reality aspect was so well done too. The visual intensity of the final chorus gives me chills every time.
cw: some flashing lights
Don't Lose Yourself - sweetestdrain (Doctor Who)
Absolutely destroyed me, I remember watching it the first time not long after the s4 finale and just weeping lol. The usage of effects is probably the most effective I've ever seen, and the way it ends is ridiculously perfect and devastating.
cw: mild flashing effects, quick cuts
And She Was - faneunice (Doctor Who)
Just a solid uplifting Rose vid.
New Dawn Fades - obsessive24 (Doctor Who)
Very thinky meta in vid form, ie maybe my favourite type of vid. Similar theme as Handlebars, but more moody and less punchy. More emphasis on the Doctor's self-destructiveness too. Excellent narrative structure as well, and the visual parallels and crosscutting thereof is just immaculate.
Thistledown Tears - Here's Luck (Firefly)
Never was a big fan of this show, especially now, but it had an amazing vid scene. The continuity of camera movement in this one is gorgeous. Plus excellent emotional escalation, mood, etc.
(Out of) Classical Gas - jarrow (Firefly)
Musicality musicality musicality! Fantastic showcase of vidding to an instrumental track.
Rodeohead - AbsoluteDestiny (Firefly)
Just incredibly fun, perfect song choice, totally on point in every way.
Superstar - Here's Luck (Buffy)
Idk what to say about it other than it's a classic for a reason.
cw: flashing lights
I Put You There - Laura Shapiro (Buffy, kind of)
This is largely original animation but it's made in the context of vidding fandom and it's one of my faves so I'm counting it. Adorable and unique meta vid on fandom and the blorbo obsession that goes with it.
Volcano Girls - DualBunny (Buffy)
I just dig the juxtapositions, parallels, recontextualizing bookends... good stuff.
cw: flashing lights
Two Birds - Meg (Utena)
A more recent find for me, my love for this largely comes down to the song choice and usage and thesis statement. It's the perfect song for the show, and very well utilized. I love the parallel couples here.
cw: flashing lights
I'll Find You - Gemma Lemon (Utena)
This is probably the most technically perfect vid on this list. I'm big on musicality and rhythm in vids, but a lot vids that really lay it on heavy miss me due to not having much to say beyond 'cutting stuff to the beat perfectly.' This was both a perfect illustration of the music, and emotionally and intellectually engaging and impactful.
cw: flashing lights, very quick cuts
Razzle Dazzle by T. Jonsey and Killa (Star Trek: TOS)
I must've watched this like 50+ times over the years and it still makes me laugh every single time no exaggeration. It's also an absolute masterclass in internal movement; it's incredibly satisfying to watch because it's so constantly on rhythm, and I'd recommend every aspiring vidder watch this and keep it in mind when they're cutting and timing clips.
Drop Dead Gorgeous - Shalott (Smallville)
Never seen this show, but I love this vid. It's SO fast paced and yet totally visually coherent, those strobing match cuts are amazing, and it's really fun.
cw: very fast cuts, flashing lights
Girl Anachronism - Lierdumoa (Gia)
Another that I have little to say about other than it's so good.
cw: some flashing lights
Fiat Lux - PieandBeerAMV (Tokyo Godfathers)
Just a fucking gorgeous retelling of the movie. The choice to cut away at the climax is incredible.
Stray Italian Greyhound - Butterfly (Yuri on Ice)
When the "what do I do what do I do"s come in I tear up every time without fail lol. Perfect encapsulation of the skating is love theme.
Women's Work - Luminosity and Sisabet (Supernatural)
One of THE classic meta commentary vids, for a good reason.
Swing Down Chariot - faneunice (Dogma)
More internal movement, delightful repeating motion, great rhythm. And I'm in love with the shot choice on the final 'calm and easy.'
The Man Who Sold The World - obsessive24 (Velvet Goldmine)
Gorgeous, love the focus on the public spotlight they're in ft excellent effects usage to mimick newspaper photos, and obviously there's no better possible song choice.
cw: flashing lights
Whatever it Takes - faneunice (Bend it Like Beckham)
Just a good uplifting retelling of the movie.
Rebel Sodville - DualBunny (The Princess Bride)
Just a great time. The vidder calls it the story the characters think they're in, and it's a great description. Really shows off the epic adventure aspect of the movie.

Female-fronted February #3 (Maud Lindström)
Tumblr media
Maud Lindström - Strategivisor för kärlekskritiker
Released: 2005, Sweden
Genre: Folk/Singer-songwriter
Duration: 36 min.
Links: Spotify Youtube Apple Music Amazon Music
First off, congrats on having the most swedish name ever! (...says the woman with an equally local name). Second off, genre - well, it’s what I might call folk, but I’m not sure how well it fits in the english understanding of folk as a genre - this is a very, very swedish genre, really. Oh well, genres are made up anyway. Moving on...
There are some absolutely gorgeous instrumentations on this, and she really knows when to go all out and when to keep it simple. And well, Maud’s really something as a writer, isn’t she? Blunt and honest, very effective. Obviously Hyllningsvisa is great, but Vacker Vid Vatten and Tro Inte Jag Kommer Att Bli Kär are also definite highlights.
If you liked this, you might like...
Strula med Siri
Matriarkatet (moving more punk, but in my defense the swedish punk scene is great)
