Hylics Analysis - The Significance of Hylem and the Afterlife
Hi, and welcome to another Hylics analysis! I’m hesitant to call it a theory because I’ll spend the majority of this post going over what I believe to be the canon intent. Most of this stuff is, in my opinion, pretty grounded, but I’ve seen so little discussion about it online. I aim to unpack the ways hylem unexpectedly appears in Hylics, its importance to the overall story, and what its true source may be.
Hylethems
The first, and really only direct mention of hylem comes from some workers in the caves of New Muldul. The workers are seen cutting away at pink cave formations called hylethems. Specifically, they cut away at odd tendrils protruding from the hylethems presumably called fronds (which is what they’re called internally.) The fronds themselves writhe, indicating that they may be alive. The minecarts of the miners are full of these fronds. One of the miners describes hylethems as “hylem-rich cave formations.” Another, crucially, says the following:
“Glove lathing. Burrito synthesis. All starts with hylethems. Find a rich vein, translates to a lotta bones. Lotta bones.”
This gives us two uses for hylem or hylethem fronds. The fact that the fronds are what’s being harvested might suggest they’re the items of value, not hylem itself, but this is pretty unclear. Maybe the fronds are full of the hylem? Really, the two might as well be synonymous for our analysis today.
While we’re here, I’d like to take the time to clear up a piece of dialogue that I see confuse people, being an NPC in New Muldul that describes the town’s primary industry as “calthemite husbandry.” I’ve seen people attribute the word “calthemite” to both insects and juice beasts, but calthemites are a real thing: they’re cave formations. Given that the harvesting of hylethems is shown in New Muldul, I think it’s safe to say that’s what they’re talking about here.
Standard uses of hylem
Hylem is stated to have two uses: burrito synthesis and glove lathing, though the wording of miner’s speech suggests they might have many more. Burrito synthesis is odd but rather self-explanatory, and implies hylem might have healing properties for both flesh and will (this’ll be important later.) Glove lathing is more interesting. “Lathe” and “lathing” have multiple, kind of convoluted meanings, but its usage here suggests either coating or shaping the gloves. This could either mean the gloves are coated in hylem, likely as a liquid, or the gloves are cut out of pleather and shaped by… the fronds? It’s really unclear.
The description of the tendril hand item is “The people of Mocetul shun lathing, and for gloves rely on other processes.” The long gloves are also described as “standard gestural combat garbs.” It seems clear that gloves are what enable the use of gestures, but whether or not lathing is responsible for this is questionable. The fact that the tendril hand was made without lathing suggests hylem isn’t critical to the use of gestures, however it might imply that it's the usual process that enables them. Regardless, lathing is clearly common and important and hylem is what allows it to happen.
What’s a Hylemxylem anyway?
Ah, the Hylemxylem, Gibby’s associated fortress. Before we discuss it, let’s take a look at its name. First is the word “hylem,” which is a term unique to Hylics (and also apparently the name of a music artist,) and “xylem.” In simplified terms, xylem is a sort of transport tissue within plants that takes in and distributes water and minerals throughout the plant. With this in mind we can basically translate the word “Hylemxylem” into “thing that takes in hylem.”
[Before we move on, I want to suggest an origin for the word “hylem.” This is largely conjecture on my part, but I believe Mason knew he wanted Gibby’s fortress to absorb a substance and wanted to use the word “xylem” in there. Needing a name for the substance and wanting it to rhyme, he added the “-lem” suffix. To complete it, he took from the game’s own title: Hylics. Why would he do this? Well, as we’ve seen glimpses of, hylem might be very, very important to the nature of this world.]
So, the Hylemxylem xylems hylem, that much seems pretty clear. With this in mind we can identify the pink goop flowing throughout the hylemxylem.
Seen throughout the hylemxylem is this strange, pink liquid, highly resembling that seen in the Afterlife. It fills many of the rooms, spews out of spouts, and appears to flow into the fortress via the tubes descending down into the waters. It’s this very liquid, described as “the terrestrial juice,” that Gibby floats in before his transformation. This, as implied by the name “Hylemxylem” itself, is hylem. But where does all this hylem come from? Of course, it’s possible that the tubes of the Hylemxylem bore into the ground, sapping hylem away from the Hylethems. However, we don’t need to speculate on this. In one of the few changes to the environment during the course of Hylics 2, we see where the tubes lead…
The Afterlife
That’s right. A detail I see often overlooked is that, after the raising of the Hylemxylem, many tubes appear in the Afterlife, each flowing with the pink substance that comprises the sea, up into the sky. These tubes only appear after the ‘Xylem is raised, implying theyre the very tubes pumping hylem into the fortress. A quick glance at the game’s internals confirms this, calling them “Afterlife Xylem Columns.” I really hope this isn’t ambiguous at this point: the pink liquid within the Hylemxylem is the same liquid that fills the Afterlife.
Thanks to Happy/S For Sprinkles for this photo! Also, it's a lot easier to see in-game that these tubes are flowing with the sea's liquid. You can pretty clearly see it flowing upwards.
Now, this leads me to two conclusions I hope you find reasonable:
Wait, we very clearly see the tubes of the ‘Xylem go into the ocean. Is the Afterlife in the ocean? Maybe in some weird bubble? That’d explain why there are fish flopping around in H1. Maybe it’s an underwater cave??
More relevantly, if the pink goo in the Hylemxylem is hylem, and the pink goo in the Hylemxylem is also the Afterlife goo, that must mean the Afterlife goo is hylem. X = Y and Z = Y. Therefore X must equal Z.
This is, to me at least, super interesting. Despite never being outright stated, it is very, VERY heavily implied that the sea of the Afterlife is hylem. This sea’s strange waters, mind you, comprises the pools and fountains we fall into to reach the Afterlife. It also comprises the sea that spits us out when we die. If it is true that X = Y = Z, then hylem is not only responsible for the burritos we eat, the gloves we use, or the seemingly the ascension of Gibby, but also for the repeated reincarnation of our party members. Remember how I earlier noted that burritos, synthesized from hylem, heal flesh and will? Well, that may be an extension of the life giving, healing properties of hylem as found in the Afterlife! That’s why, I believe, Mason named the substance of hylem after the games themselves. Without hylem, the story of the games wouldn’t be possible. It's a foundational element to the world itself.
This also explains the weird fixation the game has on hylem. While Mason might have some worldbuilding hidden in random item descriptions or one or two sets of NPC dialogue (the only piece of non-relevant worldbuilding mentioned more than once being Amulom,) hylem has 5, completely separate NPCs that talk about it upright (not even counting the other NPCs that talk about calthemites.) Hylethem fronds are even seen scattered around the places that Smuldunde visits for some strange reason. This conclusion, that hylem enables the events of the game, explains why; it isn’t irrelevant worldbuilding. Hell, you could even view the hylethems being mentioned so early on as foreshadowing for the Hylemxylem itself and Gibby’s ascension from the terrestrial juices. Like the ‘Xylem does, it seems likely that hylelthems sap hylem away from the Afterlife!
Conclusion
So, that concludes the analysis! Hylem is a powerful substance that enables the use of gloves and burritos, sustains the Hylemxylem, and allowed Gibby to ascend. Given the evidence we have, I think this is the conclusion intended by Mason himself. Perhaps we were all intended to figure this out on our own, but the abstract and indirect story-telling method of Hylics 2 obscured this. Hell, I’ve seen a ton of misconceptions about the Accretion despite things the game pretty directly shows us. Maybe I should make a post about that? Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! I might make an addendum to this post as well going over some specific ideas like how the Moon might have processed hylem and why only Gibby ascends through it. After that I’ll probably cover either the symbols used in the world of Hylics or some speculation on Viewax. I might even put up a poll on which I should cover first!

Decided to redraw a very old Hylics fanart, from when I first got my drawing tablet!
It never stops amazing me just how much I have improved, though I have to admit I did cheat a little bit with the background, I made it with the help of Blender intead of drawing it all, but I guess it still goes to show my general artistic development or whatever
Date-less version of the new one, rambles, and comparisons between sketches below
I am really happy with how this one turned out, well, I've been quite proud of my art in general recently actually. I don't know why I was so patient with this one, I spent quite a few hours just refining the lineart, doing some lineweight around the outer borders of the most important individual "pieces" and purely black shading in a few parts. Barely noticable, really, but generally I'm too lazy to do that, not to mention the armor has a decent ammount of detail for what I'm used to. God forbid I every draw Dedusmuln with the same design twice.
Also, look at their respective sketches!! I don't know how or when this change happened but look at how much more natural the new one looks!!!! I remember back when I was making the first one I really hated how wonky my humanoids looked but I never understood how to properly fix it, but it seems I just needed some practice! About three years of it so far, and I'm sure I will keep getting better (and so you can too!)

What are some good new RPG maker games?
I played some ages ago, but the websites have now all been nuked because they were full of ripped assets from SNES games.
ooh i can answer this
for ones with no real combat that've been around for a while, yume nikki is good, but i've mainly played .Flow, a fangame of it, which has a darker tone and atmosphere with more understandable "goals", so i attached to it much more
Ib (eye, bee, as letters) is an interesting art game that appeals to emo/scene aesthetics that i like more, it has no combat but many puzzles and an incredibly interesting setting, to me
OFF is a french-translated RPG which is kinda the best in the business, the art & music are top notch and the gameplay is accessible, if seeing pictures of it or hearing music from it intrigues you, i think everyone should give it a shot.
almost all of these are real battle sprites. you play as a baseball player (The Batter) and purify ghosts as you come into existence. the fandom came & went in 2012-2014 or so, but the game's worth experiencing, very much. more games under the cut below the image
LISA: The Painful is an excellent game that has a post-apocalyptic setting and a weird axis/style for an rpgmaker game (being a sidescroller), the setting involves you playing as a very traumatized man living in a world where all women have gone extinct and people are fighting over nothing before the world ends, the feeling of it is pretty immaculate and the soundtrack is great but strange, it cultivated my interests at a developmental period
most of the aes can be described through this trailer
youtube
LISA also has a sequel (The Joyful) which takes place after the first to tie up the story, but most importantly is that the very interesting setting & vibe set up a slew of fangames, the strongest to start out with which are
LISA: The Pointless, where you play as a very washed up martial artist who gets dug out of a trash pile by a new friend he made; a gunslinger with a bolt-action pistol that only has one bullet, and thus he can never shoot it: only threaten enemies & fake out the fact that he MIGHT shoot them, to debuff them - this game also tightens up the RPG aspects of LISA significantly, and has an IMMACULATE vibe & unique feel, it's one of the most important games to me ever
and LISA: The Hopeful, which retains more of the aesthetic of the original as well as the goofy charm while telling a very compelling grounded story.
i also contractually need to mention Fear & Hunger, it's incredibly unfair and by most metrics fails at game design but if you're interested in body horror, cosmic horror & can stomach depicted (but very much so not portrayed positively) sexual violence, it's very good art
and finally, Hylics is an incredibly artsy game that's obtuse and strange but very beautiful. it's entirely sculpted and animated with clay, but i think (as someone interested in other claymation projects, but weaned off of them after a while) the aesthetic is notably better for hylics, it doesn't feel "gross" with its humor or too, "self-referential" i'd call it maybe?
the sequel, Hylics 2, is instead fully *animated* claymation that was then ported to blender, frame by frame. there's no other project on earth that really looks like Hylics 2.
youtube
i would highly recommend playing both if you gel with them at all or think they look cool, they're both pretty cheap on steam and are accessible for an RPG (if you can figure out its silly namings and mechanic equivalents for things like health & levelling up).
none of the games mentioned here have level grinding or random encounters, either (besides some parts of OFF)! i hate that! i only like good ones, i promise!
that's all, hope this helps lol

got Wayne thoughts?
not really any new ones! hylics is about 3rd in the list of interests atm but i gotta explore his age regressing more. the gunsafe joke post was about the only mention i made of it since its a hc very close and dear to me but i think about it very often.
i probably only mentioned this in my friend server but i think he age regressed in the hylemxylem when it was first erected. HUGE ball of tears for a hot minute after he died the first time upon arriving in the hylemxylem
he had to kinda brave through it though which was Very Sucks since gibby was about to mulch the whole zone

What are your favorite videogames?
Thanks for the great question, I have so much to say! I will avoid mentioning any VN as I don't consider them games really..
I am a fan of surreal and weird games in general, if it's out there then I will be interested and play it; I also constantly search for raising sims where you raise a character (Typically a daughter or son.) till they turn into an adult.
Menagerie Series -> I love this series, I am very thankful that it exists as I love the game's art style and atmosphere it gives:
Presentable Liberty, I consider this game as one of the best, it is a first person story driven game where you play as a prisoner that has no choice but to wait for someone to send you a letter and play through the games given to you just to pass time. It is part of a Menagerie series created by the creator.
Years ago, this game changed my god damn life. I was so invested in it, it is rare to find something that understands what it feels like to actually be helpless and depressed. The need to tell those few people left that you're still alive and can't is a frustrating hurdle.
Exoptable Money, Another part of the Menagerie Series, this time it is a point and click format. You play as a business man trying to find ways in how you earned your fame and piece together what happened to the world in itself. I also recommend recommend as I do like the creator's style.
It is also quite depressing but if you like strange visuals then I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
Menagerie Archive, The last part of the Menagerie Series, another point and click format. You play as an archivist in a dystopian world where you are forced to share your earnings between three citizen from each status. If you don't have enough funds, they will go hungry for a week while at the same time, keeping yourself also fed.
There are multiple endings, and it is also part of the worldbuilding from the two games, Presentable Liberty and Exoptable Money.
Mogeko Castle -> RPG, just pure unfiltered dark humor.
Hylics -> RPG, just straight up surreal and aesthetic fun.
The witch's House -> RPG, a good horror game, I consider it a classic so you should play it, I don't wanna spoil the fun.
Zelle -> Occult Adventure, 2nd person dungeon crawler/point and click game where you are a young boy trying to escape the grim reaper's castle in order to get back to your mother.
TMGS Series -> Otome, a stat raising dating game where you have 3 years in high school to get close to the guy you like; (I also want to play the original ones where you date the girls eventually.)
LovePLus -> DS, another stat raising dating game where you have a virtual girlfriend. My sister and I used to fight over the DS because we wanted to collect dreams and go on dates with the girl we chose lol.
Princess Maker Series -> Raising sim, stat raising game where you raise a girl till she turns into an independent adult, either from a princess or any job you want her to get.
Teaching Feeling -> Raising sim, you take care of an abused girl and have a relationship with her. (I am still upset to this very day the creator blocked me all because he had a tantrum over his english speaking fans and that I was speaking in english.)
My Child Lebensborn -> Raising sim, story driven where you're raising a child of a german soldier in norway after the war and try your best to give him/her the best childhood as much as you can.
Harvester -> Point and click adventure, classic surreal and just weird game where you play as a man who has amnesia and has to figure out the world he's in.
LION -> Life sim, dosbox game. You just play as a lion lol
WOLF -> Life sim, dosbox game. You play as a wolf, that's it lol.
PETZ -> Life sim, old game where you just take care of pets till old age in your desktop. That's it. I cherish this game to the bottom of my heart.
Creatures Series -> Life sim, my favorite of all time as possibly the best out all life simulations. You take care of these alien creatures, teach them how to talk and watch them interact with their surroundings. The person who made this is an actual roboticist btw, and it has a complex system where the activities in their brain are monitored to even their genetic make up. I remember one of my norns kept calling me mama and then taught it to the others to also refer to me as that.
Yames Games -> Best horror games out there, there's a lot to say but I suggest you check it out yourself if you're into the eldritch variety.
Rimworld -> Colony sim, a sci-fi management game where you try to survive the planet and get out of there with the rest of your colony. It is also a classic, especially with mods.
Crusader Kings Series -> Strategy game where you try to keep your dynasty from dying as much as you can. I play it to see how far I can turn my family into a family circle, basically incest. But the fun is making your own story and messing around. Be warned, to this fucking day the devs cannot be bothered to fix their shitty loading screens. A spreadsheet of a game shouldn't be asking for large fucking specs just to play.
Tale of Immortal -> Open world sandbox game, Wuxia shit and cultivation.
ELONA -> Rougelike game. You can do so many things in this game that I can hardly list it, just go play it.
Amazing Cultivation Simulator -> You know what it's already about based on the title, wuxia and cultivation shit except it is a colony sim this time. Inanimate objects can come to life, your furry will turn into a literal demonic animal and grief you if you take too long to cultivate him/her, your character will turn into a loli/shota when turning near immortal. It is fun but fuck that chat mechanic. You need mods.
I don't think I've listed all of my favorites but these were the ones I thought from the top of my head. If you're ever interested in any of them just try it out.
Virtual Villagers Series -> Real time simulation management game, you take care of a bunch of people in a lone village and do your best to improve their life. You act as a god, at least in some of the other sequels, and try your best to find ways to find better food resource and unlock the mysteries of the island.
Be warned as this isn't the kind where everything you'll be able to unlock everything in one go as it where you'll need to wait real time for it to unlock on it's own.

Artist ask game!!:3
6 7 8 11 13 and 14 Hope these aren't too many!! (Cuz I am holding back from asking even more-)
11 and 13 already answers but i can tackle the rest :3
6. Favorite and least favorite angles/perspectives to draw?
yknow top/bottom angles are extremely difficult but they're SO satisfying when you can get them right. with a decent reference and enough practice you really can just tackle anything! i don't really have a Least favorite angle, but facing front are the most annoying ones to get right. symmetry my beloathed
7. Who are some artists that have inspired you?
ohhh there's a lot. i think ggdg comes up first because their colors in Cucumber Quest and other works are Delicious. evan dahm's comics have been inspired me to try comics, i love Rice Boy to bits, Order of Tales and Vattu are are also fantastic. i love the surrealism in Hylics, Mason Lindorth is an amazing artist, Joel G's ENA is an incredible series that has been an inspiration to me.
i think special mention goes to Partycoffin's Welcome Home for inspiring me to convert CaelOS from an AU to a personal project that has now grown much larger than its AU iteration has. However. the fame that Welcome Home has gained no joke Horrifies me and i hope CaelOS never explodes like that.
and Dev Palmer's re:curse. idk man playing through it and listening to the music makes me believe i can make a little game about CaelOS one day too. though there's a funny thing...
the whole caroline house folder thing (if you know you know! play the dang game!!!) completely by accident ended up pushing me to make Aster Assistant Software. all because i really thought "caroline house" was going to be an ukagaka for a second!!!!
but yeah there's a lot.
14. Do you prefer to make fan content or original content?
see that's an extremely tricky question to answer because my entire gallery has been driven by whatever i was hyperfixated on at one point or another. before april i'd easily tell you fan content was preferable
but now i feel a lot more fulfilled putting out these projects and chunks of story i want to create bit by bit. in part the fact that this is my original work that i have to actually Make drives me because it doesn't depend on outside opinion. i also have some events in mind already, how the main story starts and ends.
Project ASTER is more of a prelude to the whole thing, an exercise btw. it doesn't take part in the main story, but it helps a lot for me to put down Aster's backstory on paper
problem is though is i have no idea for how long this will last. i think the fact that there's several mediums being worked into it helps me keep interest. drawing, writing, programming, 3d modeling, and i'm strongly considering music as well. we'll have to see

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have?
Interesting story with Akio's origin, when first starting the blog Akio was actually a collaboration between a very old friend of mine and me. I unfortunately haven't talked to them in a very long time, but the idea was to create a character that could grow to become a more "Hero" type character. At the time, there was quite the lot of OCs who had unique stories, but none of them really had any heroic bits to them. So during Akio's draft, I picked a bunch of my favorite characters to design his personally. The two main characters being Zack Fair from FF7 Crisis Core and Roxas from Kingdom Hearts 2 specifically, Makoto from Persona 3 was also the reason Akio is blue/ocean-themed. So over the course of the years, Akio became a character I am proud to have written. Plus, it gave me a chance to meet a lot of wonderful people!
is there anything you don’t like to write?
Nothing in particular comes to mind out off the top of my head that isn't just common things. Like sudden gore related scenes or scenarios that might be more sensitive to write about, I have written such things before, but it is better to have a proper talk beforehand.
is there anything you really enjoy writing?
Oh, I adore writing action scenes with Akio. It gives me a chance to express Akio's energy and skill in a multitude of ways, but while writing his own skills is fun by itself. I love to add references to other characters assisting him in other ways. It helps to solidify how the connections and friendships he has made helped him grow stronger.
how do you come up with headcanons?
Music is often my main factor when it comes to writing Akio, while I never really had the time to dedicate myself into drawing, I took it upon myself to better my writing instead. With the help of music and even some game scenes, it inspires me to add things to Akio's character and style.
do you write in silence or do you play music?
I have specific tracks for Akio when I write him, a more casual scene can be written easier with the track [A seafarer's skills - Bravely Default 2]. While come combat oriented ones can be split between Akio's chaotic and heavily stylish combat with [Intervalo I theme - Limbus Company] and, surprisingly, the more serious fights or scenes with either [Chesed's Theme - Library of Ruina] or [It's Going Down Now - Persona 3 Relaod]
do you plan your replies or wing them?
I usually think out my replies, which can cause them to take a while to come out. Ironically, some of my best replies and short stories come when I let myself get lost to whatever I am listening to and just let Akio take over. Usually happens late at night.
do you enjoy shipping?
Akio is canonically married to Asta [@halfliing-ormr] and he even has kids of his own with her.
But with the idea of shipping in general, I like pairing up Akio with other OCs or characters to see how the synergy works. While a Platonic bond is the main thing to go for, it also helps to bring out other sides of Akio that I usually don't delve on my own. Like a more in depth talk about his magic issues or his heroic tendencies, often bringing him trouble.

i was rambling in a server and i really wanna share this publically given Absent Moon was released about 3 days ago now, I have been fixating on Hylics And I've been listening to the music and I think i have a general theory on what I think the 3rd game is going to entail Odozier, upon the death of Gibby, worries that he will no longer serve a greater purpose. In desperation, he makes a new moon king, bathing in in terrestrial juices to strengthen it Given how Warpo are made (they are Wayne larva who have been fed a diet of nothing put poolwine), I think the new Moon King will be a Wayne. A larva forced to be hardened. Forced to become something stronger. A predecessor for Gibby. After all, it was Wayne who defeated Gibby, so obviously Wayne must be stronger in some way. I have a few ideas for the player character -They are a descendent of (Playable) Wayne -They are a descendent of Dedusmuln -They are the Moon King Wayne The first one is easy to explain- of course the main character would be the kid of the original main character The second one is a bit harder. There is the one teaser Mason posted, there is a humanoid figure with a face shape similar to how Dedusmuln's is. Likewise, it'd be shifting the main focus from Wayne to Dedusmuln, much like how the antagonist is shifting from Gibby to Odozier (in some effect) The third one is kinda hard to explain why I think why. There is the one teaser where we see what appears to be Odozier in some form. The character from the previously mentioned teaser does appear to be in front of this Odozier. My fourth, and probably silliest option, is that -We swap back and forth between the Hero Character, and the Moon King Wayne. Because perhaps they are closer than we think they are. Perhaps they were friends in younger years. Something like that. But it would be interesting. Perhaps we get to see the suffering Moon King Wayne goes through as they're shifted from a Wayne into,,, whatever they will end up becoming. I also think the game will focus on the cycle of rebirth Waynes go through. I think Hylics 1 & 2 Wayne will be depressed. Going through the endless cycle of "Eat, Sleep, Die, Repeat" (or I suppose, "Eat, Sleep, Die Over and Over, Defeat the Moon King, Repeat). I think Pongorma is also going to be affected by this in some way. In the end of "As The World Begins To Wane", it repeats "when will the cycle end?" Perhaps the entirety of the Hylics crew is all affected by this cycle. They are all doomed to fighting, dying, winning. Over and over. And it's become boring. Likewise, I note the title "The Champion of Ennui/Into The Pastel Sky" "Ennui" is a term relating to being bored because of lack of an occupation, or lack of excitement. Wayne is bored of the cycle. And perhaps he wants to die, and be pulled into the pastel sky. maybe the ending of hylics 2 was trying to say something deeper. I don't really know. Tbh, its 4AM and I'm kind of just getting all my thoughts out. I'm sure my friends are tired of me rambling about it all the time lmao

the happy fits were SO fucking good in concert AGAIN. I'm gonna write my thoughts
there were so many queer people. the audience was like 85% queer. we met a bunch of people outside bc they were playing pokemon go, and one of them had a trans butterfly tattoo, and two of the others had clown makeup. one of them was straight up dressed as the joker from joker (2019). the other clown had a hylics name for their pokemon go name. they were great. we also befriended a kid who turns 18 today(!!!!) who was at his first concert ever, and he was by himself, so we took him under our wings
opening acts kicked ass, AGAIN
Phoneboy was really fun, they had a good rapport with the audience. They saw someone with a bunch of in-n-out hats and got them to give them to the band, and they later did someone's BeReal
Daisy the Great was also amazing and their outfits were so choice. I fell a little bit in love with the guitarist bc she had the gayest outfit ever and I loved it
And then The Happy Fits came out and FUCKING ROCKED.
You best believe I got out of breath headbanging while a twenty-something dressed like he just walked out of disco shredded the sickest riffs you've ever heard on a cello
I always mention the cello bc that's the thing that makes them unique but tbh the whole band is so damn talented. The guitarist is SO fucking good and the drums are always so solid
These fuckers had the GALL to play Do Your Worst and Mary back to back. Were they TRYING to kill me
They seemed v aware of how queer their audience was bc they were like "we know we have a lot of trans folks in the audience, we want you to know we stand by you. There's been so much hate lately, we want to say that gender affirming care is not politics, it is a fucking human right" and then all their lights were trans colors when they played Little One immediately after that. Little One's chorus is this btw
They ended their set with Heart of Dancer and Grow Back because yes, they really were trying to kill me
#i would put this under a read more but im on mobile and it's 1am and im TIRED#such a good concert though and an amazing birthday gift#shouts out to ryan the kid we befriended who's my birthday neighbor#oh btw. in honor of confession arc happening tomorrow (today?) you guys should listen to She Wants Me (To Be Loved) by The Happy Fits#it's relevant i promise

SO! My last reblog was of someone's Hylics OC and I mentioned my own in the tags. I just now realized I have not put any of my art of him on here or said like, anything about him. So this is Ryan! Art by me :)
Ryan's name is a pun on the constellation Orion, in reference to their star shaped head. Yes ik it feels like it's copying Wayne and Gibby but I've grown attached to it so, too bad.
They go by all pronouns, but predominantly he/they/she.
They were part of Gibby's guard in the first game, but ofc all of them disintegrated when Wayne touched them so I hc that the DNA of some species were contained in the Gibbylet to be placed on HylemXylem during the Reconstitution. So he ended up there too, but fell into the ocean when it exploded.
The current story I have in mind is that he was found by a Wayne (much to his initial dismay, being from the moon and all) and was sent to the Afterlife to help care for some Wayne larvae until it was proved that he wasn't a threat and they could return to the overworld.
I hope the internet loves her as much as I do 🥺

I’ll bite
1. Kel
2. Mutantheart
3. Jawbreaker, Come and See (gives good Inscryption vibes)
4. Jawsum for his theme and a neat challenge, Bossman Hero bc it’s amazingly hilarious.
5. The one with Sunny in the sand.
6.Deep Well or Last Resort
7. Disco Area
8. The hideout area probably (but Gino’s is a close second)
9. Black Space. Love the Yume Nikki twist it has and how fascinating it and Bs2 are.
10. Suntan.
11. Not really.
12. I guess Sunny route but mixed route is cool despite how it breaks my heart.
13. Maverick is the only other person who likes Orange Joe
14. The first time going into black space probably. Never before had I felt so disturbed by an area in a game.
15. On two days left when you had to get the sandwich for Hero. I felt absolutely mortified when I saw Aubrey and co. To the point where I just got the sandwich and left, not even interacting with them. Again, only time a game ever made me feel that kind of way.
16. Maybe the cup noodles, just something about the subtle joke about how they can only be found in toilets.
17. Jawsum (again)
18. Humphrey, not a fan of the green area.
19. I felt like the tag system was really under developed, Omori and Aubrey are effectively the same, Hero has nothing to do and Kel is the only one that really got fleshed out. Also the combat system felt really exploitive, see Headbutt and Run n’ gun.
20. Would have been nice if the areas got expanded more. Keys are used once in Junkyard, Half of Sweetheart’s castle is just mini games (which are fun), but i think they did a good amount of content out of Deep Well.
21. More content in blackspace 2.
22. Absolute pain and begging to know if Sunny’s friends forgave him (I think they did albeit with time).
23. Some heartache but not too much.
24. Entering the red room in blackspace with all the faces. Just b-lined it for the key.
25. The scene I mentioned in 15. The raw energy of what happened beforehand is mortifying.
26. Physical copy of the game, my plushies and Nendorid.
27. Absolutely, it’s the reason I want to try and peruse becoming a game dev so I can create something that can make people happy and inspire them. Also to help them with something fun after being emotionally devastated from something like Omori.
28. I met @karmarat (sorry for the @) and they’re pretty cool.
29. I got into playing a lot of Rpg Maker games like Yume Nikki, Off, Space Funeral and Hylics (goated btw) and even making something in rpg maker myself.
30. It was the first ever piece of media to make me cry. It emotionally destroyed me for a good 2 months and Omocat’s “Fuck it I’m gonna make this” story has been the greatest motivator for me to create anything I have created and I hope to one day create something that can stand toe to toe with this game.
31. Of course I would!
Uh..doing this out of boredom!
SPOILER WARNING!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Out of the main 6, my favorite in Dreamworld/Headspace is Basil. Out of the main 5 in real-world, my favorite is Kel.
2. My favorite side/NPC character is Kim.
3. My favorite songs from the OMORI ost would have to be Duet, Bready Steady Go, and You Were Wrong, Go Back.
4. My favorite boss is Bossman Hero.
5. The photos from Basil's photo album I liked most was the one picture of Aubrey eating a watermelon, and the arm-wrestle between Hero and Kel.
6. My favorite area in Headspace is the park area.
7. My favorite area in Blackspace is the main area itself, where you can see all the doors, and the one room where Basil explodes like a watermelon.
8. My favorite area in Faraway Town is the "hidden spot" in the park.
9. I like Real-world more. I don't have a specific reason why, though if I had a reason, I'd say because it feels like I spend hours in Headspace when playing the game.
10. Favorite ships? Hm.. I like cactiflower, suntan, and of course, HeroMari.
11. I kin Basil and Kel! I kin Basil because of his personality, which should already be enough.. hopefully. I kin Kel because of his personality, but also because of the way he is perceived from others' POV's.
12. My fav route in the game is to keep going outside every possible chance. My favorite ending in the game is the True-Ending.
13. I have very few I can think of right now, but one of the main ones I have is that Kel and Hero hug people tightly, though of course, Hero hugs more gently.
14. My favorite moment in the game is when Aubrey, Kel, Hero, and Sunny all hug together in real-world.
15. Something that stood out to me the most was Basil's obsession for Sunny.
16. Well, I think my fav might be obvious if you know my blog, but I like- Kel's skill "TICKLE" In game.
17. My favorite boss fight is fighting against Bossman Hero.
18. For me, the annoying part is having to grind levels because your level is "too low" so you can't defeat a boss until you grind more, which is a huge hassle for me.
19. Something I dislike about OMORI?!😲. Uh..nothing? ((If I think of something, I'll update this later.))
20. Something I wish was different about the game? Same thing as last question.
21. If I could change or add something, it would be adding more cutscenes or details in real-world and more details about characters interactions because--as we see that, for example, Aubrey and Hero don't really talk much. I wish there was at least some detail/or interaction between characters that don't talk to eachother much.
22. My reaction went kinda like this: "😶😮😲🤐...Damn.."
23. I was kinda just like- was in shock, but amazement when Sunny just- looked so unfazed falling down a hospital building. The amazement part being how the music just started playing, as I thought: "Wow..the build up..lead to a tragic ending but an amazing song choice." For the neutral endings, I was kind just like: "😶..." In shock I guess?
24. A scene that genuinely scared me was when I first played the game and encountered "DOROTHI" on the train. The music creeped me out, and so did the appearance of Dorothi.
25. In my opinion, the scariest things in the game are when you encounter the different variants of "SOMETHING" aka, MERCI, DOROTHI, CINDI, etc.
26. I do not unfortunately :(
27. Omori changed me in a...hard to describe way. Anytime I just- think about the endings, the truth, and everything in deep thought, it makes me have an odd feeling in my stomach of uneasiness. Though, it made me happy when certain scenes/frames, go on screen.
28. I actually made a good amount of friends, though I'll name 3, or rather 2. I met an amazing best friend of mine through it, a really cool, smart, and nice friend of mine named 'Ollie', and- I used to be friends with the famous omori, gacha, youtuber named 'DANI'.
29. Yes, OMORI had led me down a huge rabbit hole. It led me to a game called "Needy Streamer Overload" and I absolutely love it. It also let me to a game called "Yume Nikki" which, I haven't played yet but hear that it's good. So, I plan to go into 'Yume Nikki' blind!
30. OMORI is special to me because it has an amazing plot, characters, areas, soundtracks, and everything! I genuinely like it a lot, and try to get as many friends as possible into it.
31. YES! OFC!!! I want a hug too! 😭
fusion AU stuff:
psychics can fuse with each other and with non-psychics (hylics?), but non-psychics fusing together is rarely heard of and largely considered to be impossible (although sometimes I waive this for fun). fusion amplifies a psychic’s powers even when paired with a non-psychic because their fusion will have a greater brain surface area.
Loboto is mostly unable to access his powers unless he’s fused. He kept Crispin on hand for such purposes when he lived in the ruins in case he needed to defend his base (they also played around with it for non-combat reasons after realizing how awesome it felt). They already had a relationship from when the asylum was functioning so it was easy for them to sync. In this state his powers were still hard to control because he didn’t have a healthy psychic brain in the equation to act as balance.
Loboto is a thrilling and unstable partner and fusing with him can be addictive because of the loss of inhibition and surge of manic confidence. Not to mention that he has the potential to be a very powerful psychic, or at least part of one.
Just like in Steven Universe, fusion can be used as an emotional crutch or represent an unhealthy relationship. When Sasha and Milla were first starting out and had spent less time working on their emotional issues, they frequently spent time fused in a codependent state, with Milla’s grief being offset by Sasha’s analytical personality and Sasha’s anxiety mitigated by Milla’s outgoing spirit. But they eventually had to take a break after repeatedly experiencing hallucinations. Now they still spend a lot of time together, but their fusion is stable because of the personal growth they went through.
Let me tell you those four of them
Wayne: this guy reminded me of Yozora despite of his crescent moon shape head. It was kinda weird since his species were like moon people. I mean, Wayne is most quiet in the first game then he's start to talk everyone in the sequel. I hope two of the game will be on other platform such as Xbox one, PS5, and Switch. Do I forgot the mention that Wayne and Somsnosa know each other before Dedusmuln and Pongorma.
Somsnosa: Somsnosa is one the main character of Hylics. She is some sort of other species in Hylics since there are few of her people working on juice ranch (don't know how many population they have). Maybe She and her people are descendants of the firelings (gelfling sub-species from the dark crystal) or I was just making these conspiracy theories. Btw, Is Instars related to Somsnosa? Are they cousin? How did Somsnosa know about wayne?
Dedusmuln: Dedusmuln is unusual nonbinary person that doesn't have humanoid face. They are the archaeologist who searched for paper cups.... Seriously, they were searching for paper cups. Can you like search the remain of dead body or something? Also; During the ending scene credits, the worms come out of Dedusmuln head. Were they pregnant the whole time?!
Pongorma: The another party member of Wayne team. Before That, Pongorma was a boss challenger but after fight he became wayne friend to battle lord Gibby. The question is what does his head look like without his helmet?
Wayne, Somsnosa, Dedusmuln, & Pongorma (c) @masonlindroth
