Me: I hate cliches
Hotel del Luna: Chungmyung and Manwol, from opposite sides of the social order, fell in love but things happened because he’d rather have her live and hate him than die, but that decision weighed on his conscience so much that he watched over Manwol for the next one thousand years to see if she could get the happy ending he couldn’t give her, all while floating around as a firefly
Me, crying: Oh my gosh, I love cliches

About Chungmyung waiting for Manwol and the latter running to meet him “one last time” before departing
Chungmyung was ready to give up his noble life to be with Manwol. If anything their last meeting on the beach told me, it was either 1) Manwol staying at the palace with Chungmyung, 2) Chungmyung joining Manwol or 3) they separate ways forever and possibly have to fight each other on the battle field. The first option is never going to happen (and good, because palace drama sucks); the third option is not going to happen (it’s a Korean drama) - so it has to be the second: Chungmyung going to join the rebel forces
This is the most likely option since recent...revelations have shown that Chungmyung would do what he can to ensure Manwol stays alive, even if she hates him for eternity. He decided to watch over her as a bug for 1000 years; him giving up his wealth and prestige is a walk in the park for this guy.
And it also shows how he’ll throw everything away for Manwol, which sets him aside from Chanseong who grips onto his moral in the same steadiness his voice has
He had a hair pin with him. This is a Hong Sisters production, and if Hong Gil Dong taught me anything when I watched it at twelve years old, it’s that jewelry has meaning. In HGD, hair pins were a form of choosing love; the heroine had a hairpin she received from her grandfather as an early wedding present, and a hairpin from the recently crowned King. When she chose the former, it meant she wanted to be with Gildong - and lo and behold, they got married, and she wore the pin until she died
It could just be a gift from Chungmyung’s end, but either way he got her a hairpin modeled after her signature
When Manwol turned around, expecting to see Chungmyung, she had the biggest smile on her face. She knew he wasn’t dropping by for a quick visit - he was going to come with her. It’s really obvious because she’s a big tsundere of a character, and since it’s before Yeonwoo’s execution takes place, Manwol is more likely to express how she feels

I remember when Chungmyung said that if Manwol stole anything from the palace, then she already did it, and patted his chest, and back then I thought he was being a smooth guy with ulterior motives because his next few scenes had him getting wed to Princess Songhwa and I had doubts
But then he had to prove me wrong by running himself through with Manwol’s sword just so he could hold her one last time before dying, and proved me wrong again by extending his hand to her as one last declaration of love before he has to forget her forever

“Ending Scene” has always been my favourite track on IU’s Palette and I pretty much memorized how the music video goes, so here I go again - the Manwol/Chungmyung scenes in episode 14 remind me of the song because look
