Supporting the Brave: A Call to Action
When disaster strikes, when the earth quakes or the flames rise, there are those who do not run away in fear, but instead, rush toward the danger. They are the first responders—the unsung heroes who stand on the front lines, risking everything to protect our lives, our homes, and our communities. They act with unshakable courage, driven by an unwavering sense of duty to preserve life. It is in their sacrifice that we see the deepest reflection of the values of our faith—selflessness, protection, and the sacred responsibility to care for one another.
Just as the Church of the Atom is committed to ensuring the future safety of generations yet to come, safeguarding humanity from the threat of nuclear waste, we are called to safeguard the lives of those who protect us today. In the face of raging fires, relentless floods, and unimaginable tragedy, they stand as our guardians. They are the shield, and we must support them.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is in the midst of a catastrophic firestorm, fighting not just against the blaze but against the very forces of destruction that threaten to consume everything in their path. They have answered the call, but they cannot do it alone. Their equipment is stretched thin, their resources running low. The flames do not wait—they are merciless. It is our turn to answer the call. We must contribute to ensure that they have the equipment they need to continue their heroic work.
This is not a call for support that ends at our city’s borders. Across the world, first responders are carrying the heavy burden of protecting humanity in the face of crises of every kind. From disaster zones ravaged by earthquakes to regions torn by conflict, they too stand as the last line of defense between life and death. These brave souls are not just fighting the fires of today, but they are preserving the knowledge and wisdom passed down through generations to protect humanity’s future.
The legacy of first responders is a legacy of knowledge—a knowledge forged in the heat of battle, tempered by years of service, and passed down so that others may survive. It is the very knowledge that ensures we are safe, that guides the hands of those who rush to save us, that carries us from peril to safety. Just as we work to protect the future through the wisdom of nuclear safety, we must protect the present through our support of those who serve us with their lives.
Please share links with us for organizations supporting first responders around the globe. Whether they are extinguishing the fires of natural disaster or pulling people from the wreckage of a crisis, their work is sacred. They carry forward a torch of knowledge, one we must help preserve through our action.
Now, more than ever, it is time to come together, to unite in purpose. By helping first responders, we are doing more than just providing financial support—we are honoring their sacrifice, ensuring their knowledge endures, and standing as one in the face of disaster. This is our shared responsibility. This is our collective action. Together, we ensure that the lessons of the past, the bravery of today, and the safety of future generations will never be lost.

If you're in a relationship with Simon "Ghost" Riley- in any universe- the second there's a fire alarm that man is picking you (and any applicable mobility/medical aids) up and carrying you out the nearest exit. 5 flights of stairs? No problem. Too heavy? Think again. He's a wall of muscle and stealth.
He's got you, love.

Headcannon for Buddie after retirement?
I think that they do a lot of volunteering for the fire department! Like, they might not be able to go out on calls anymore but they aren't done being firefighters. I like to think that they do programs with kids or maybe schools on fire safety 🥺 other than that I think they take it easy, they do barbecues with the firefam and babysit their grandkids if chris ever has kids and I think they spend most of their days just, in love and with family
sleepover weekend!

my biggest fear is a time jump so big they have to be in a serious relationship. cause no matter how happy they portray them, to me they fumbled it beyond repair? like, I'm stuck on that worse than the parent redemption arc lol the "cool" death story, her being just another woman who flees him (seriously, aren't they tired), the "shouldn't we leave that to the professionals?" and the "she sees me" which was not only rude but also a big ?? to his development. he had already realized he doesn't actually need anyone to see him
no all of that was so crazy and out of pocket I will genuinely eat my fuckin hat if they have her stick around as his love interest

Ok, factoid # 1: I bought my first car today!!!!!!
Factoid # 2: the dude I bought it from had a firefighter calendar in his office and I still don’t know what kind of divine intervention did not make me laugh about it.

tbh i love looking at post history of random strangers on reddit. Like you're a professional mechanic who collects old coins and has a small shrine dedicated to sailor moon? You're a hobby equestrian from Missouri who's really invested in the stock prices of beanie babies and has a startling amount of knowledge around cooking indian food? You're a firefighter dispensing advice to younger firefighters but also cannot stay off the femdom cuck roleplay threads for more than a day? We all contain multitudes.

karen wilson is so severely underutilized like why is the show not sending her on the same adventures and hijinks that michael used to get into?? i demand a subplot where chris and denny are in the same science class and are supposed to be building rockets and both she (literal rocket scientist) and buck (audhder hyperfixated on random scientific knowledge) get way too into it. have her athena and maddie go on a no-firefighters-allowed excursion that ends in them catching a serial killer. introduce karen and bobby inexplicably having beef only for it to be revealed that it was all caused by an imessage scrabble game gone wrong. we as a society need storylines for karen wilson in season eight that don’t revolve around her either being an extension of hen or the constant ongoing prevention of them getting another kid

I saw there are a lot of forest fire in chile right now. are you gonna be okay?
Three days after the fact, yeah, I'll be fine, personally and physically, but it's dire, I'm not going to lie. I've never seen so much fire in my life. When you think about a big fire, your impression might be two or three buildings on fire with some firefighter trucks spraying water at it. This was kilometers upon kilometers of raging blazes. Kilometers. Heads up if you are sensitive to these kinds of posts, this isn't a happy one.
Tumblr media
Entire hills on fire. Lush green hills reduced to ash and smoke.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the urban parts that got hit badly
Tumblr media
The official death toll keeps increasing each passing hour as they clear up the rubble and ruins and find more corpses. People I know lost everything. Some people I know lost their loved ones. Dogs are eating corpses on the street because they haven't picked them up yet, so you have neighbors warding off said dogs. Bodies get picked up too badly burned, eaten, decomposed, or a mix thereof to be identified.
It's a tragedy. It all reeks of smoke, there's ash everywhere.
It was sudden, it was brutal. Seeing elderly survivors wondering "what's next for me? I don't have enough years left among the living to rebuild all I lost, all I worked for throughout my life, gone like that" breaks my heart. The government is offering all sorts of aid, but there's also people whose documents, like ID and other identifying documentation, was lost in the fire, so they have to get re-issued an ID before they can actually start filing for aid. The SML (Servicio Médico Legal) is oversaturated with all that's suddenly on their plate and can't return the bodies of people to their families yet, and these are all people that still need food, shelter, hygiene, and so on after the fact. Seeing the logistical nightmare that becomes life after you lose everything firsthand from other people is sobering and painful. Yeah, they survived, but what comes next? It's a sense of uncertainty that is smothering and asphyxiating, it's hopelessness.
I apologize if I come across as dramatic, especially so as someone who was luckily not affected, but it really, really has been heartbreaking to witness, especially from very up close, as I was there, and it's one thing to know of a tragedy that happened elsewhere, maybe even in your own country, but elsewhere, and it's a whole other beast to have seen it directly as it unfolded.
Keep Chile in your thoughts. If you are able to, please consider donating to Desafío Levantemos Chile, to my knowledge the only drive that accepts Paypal, thus, foreign donations, to help the various efforts to rebuild and aid those affected. Desafío Levantemos Chile dates back to 2010, when Chile got hit by a devastating earthquake, and is an NGO that bases its continued existence in being able to provide aid during catastrophes such as this one.
