Somehow Palpatine Returned

Ok I had a hilarious thought and I need to share it with all of you. I don’t normally venture into the Sequels, for all that I have been a FinnPoe and a FinnPoeRey shipper for years, or into anything close to canon,  but I want to share this with you. 

Picture if you will the moment where Poe is telling the audience that ‘Somehow Palpatine has returned’. Ponder for a moment Obi Wan Kenobi, in the Force, at that moment. The look on his face. 

We are going with, somehow, Palpatine managed to hide his real identity from the Force Ghosts so they did not know he was still alive. 

We are also, from my own personal headcanon, going with the idea that Obi Wan severely dislikes (as close to hate as he is capable of) Palpatine and has for almost fifty years at this point.  Like 90% of the horrible things that happened in Obi Wan’s adult life can be traced back to Palpatine (both directly and indirectly).

At the moment that Poe reveals that Palpatine is back, in the Force Obi Wan starts swearing. He starts swearing in every language he knows. He starts mixing languages in his swears. He starts inventing new curses and new languages to be able to express his displeasure at the news. 

Obi Wan Kenobi is about ready to materialize into the mortal plane for the sole purpose of ripping Palpatine’s arm off and beating him with it (in a way that violates all manner of physics and Force). 

Slightly to the Left of Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker is staring at his grandson in mild horror going ‘why are you…this’. 

The Force starts manifesting people to calm Obi Wan Kenobi down (For fear that Obi Wan will break…everything). First Force Sensitives and Jedi he cared for, then Clones, then non force sensitives, even a few old enemies.  

Note 1: Maul appears at one point and screams ‘Kenobi’ for a really long time, to the point that everyone else (other than Obi Wan) looks at him. He shrugs and goes ‘I just wanted to get your attention’ then goes to sit down next to Satine so they can both score Obi Wan’s curses while splitting a bottle of Force Wine. 

Note 2: Maul and Satine have a weirdly cordial relationship for being a pacifist government official ex girlfriend of a Jedi and the Sith Warlord that murdered her in front of said Jedi, but they have found in the afterlife that they both get joy from the face Obi wan makes when they argue about something inane with him. Also they may be each scoring Obi Wan’s swears (with the occasional addition of Yoda, Dooku, Ventress, and Padme) but they are using different metrics so their scores are vastly different at all time (Maul is scoring on Creativity, Violence, and the number of organs violated; Satine is scoring on creativity, number of languages used, how poetic/rhythmic, and how well it translates into basic).

A battalion's worth of clones are arrayed around Obi Wan, taking notes. Quinlan Vos appears and vanishes in rapid succession as he helps to calm then egg Obi Wan on (at which point the Force yanks him away only to be convinced to put him back). Cody tries to calm Obi Wan down for precisely three minutes, then he realizes what has Obi Wan so steamed. At that point he goes ‘no this reaction is completely valid’ and starts discussing how one would make some of those curses a reality (as they do violate physics, the Force, and human structural integrity. Also Palpatine does not even have some of those organs) with Qui Gonn Jinn, who is deeply amused but happy to bond with his pseudo son in law. 

Plo Koon wanders through and announces that he is adopting all of the new stormtroopers both dead and living (in the mortal plane Finn, Rose, and others suddenly get the feeling that they have been absconded with and have no idea why). 

In one corner Anakin, still despairing over Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and his life choices, is having an ongoing yet supremely awkward family reunion with one or more of the following at any given point and time: his wife, whom he had a hand in killing; his daughters adoptive parents, whom he helped murder; his daughter’s husband, who he tortured, froze in carbonite, and sold to a bounty hunter; and his step brother and step sister in law that rose his son on a planet that Anakin hated, whom he only didn’t torture because he never remembered they existed; Assorted Jedi who he had been close to, whom he might of had a hand in murdering.

That one corner has so much passive aggressiveness that it is insane.  A lot of Anakin asking out loud why Kylo Ren is…like that with one or more of the previously listed people going ‘Maybe if his grandfather didn’t become a Sith, Ben wouldn’t have gotten the idea’. Which is both slightly unfair, as Anakin had been dead by the time Ben Solo was born, but also funny as anything. 

Also no one in that corner was actually discussing their elephant in the room, which was Anakin turned out to be THE PROBLEM for two decades. 

There is an ever growing parade of everyone Obi Wan has ever met being thrown at him by the Force because the Force effectively went: SHIT that is a lot of anger. Deflect.Deflect.

TFA dropped on my BIRTHDAY and I got into Star Wars and watched them ALL because it looked like Finn (a Black main vs supporting) was gonna be prominent and I had to support John B. Also FinnPoe had me Unwell and excited. And then everything changed when "we didn't plan out the sequels" attacked.

I'm STILL heart broken lmfao

I never got obsessed but genuinely walked out of TFA with a feeling that this was the beginning of a very tightly planned trilogy where they had something exciting planned for every plot they set into motion. Biggest trick Hollywood ever pulled with regard to a franchise

Let's talk Damerey.

I ended up being a VERY general fan during the SW sequels. Like...none of the ships bother me. FinnPoe? Fine. Damerey? Fine. Kylo and whomever, sure. I guess. I just want them to live and be happy.

Anyway, when did your Damerey journey start? I think I read at one point they had thought about making Poe and Rey a thing? But I guess the visions of the differing directors didn't allow for it? Did I make that up in my head?

I understand the appeal of that ship as well as FinnPoe or whatever it's called. I mean, it's Poe, so who wouldn't be obsessed lol

Anyway, thoughts?

Also, do you like to stick to Damerey fics for Poe or do you also like xreader with Poe?

Oh, boy. This might take a while.

I can honestly say I've been Damerey a lot longer than I've been a fan of Oscar Isaac. I became Damerey right after The Force Awakens. But here's the thing, I was Reylo, too. What? Okay, let me explain. I love the 'good girl falls for bad boy' trope, but I've always been realistic about it; the bad boy can't be horrible bad and has to become good eventually. I loved the idea of Rey bringing Ben back from the Dark Side, but... what he did to his father (my first love and still the one I compare to all other crushes) is unforgivable. I knew Ben Solo would NOT have a happy ending. Therefore, Rey needed to have her happily ever after with someone else. Finn or Poe? I loved them both, but I do have a thing for pilots, so I chose Poe.

The Last Jedi only increased my interest in both ships. The connection between Rey and Ben was fascinating. But... that last scene between Rey and Poe? I remember commenting to my brother after our first viewing, "They have to be planning something between them after that! Right?"

I went into the last movie wondering which way (if either) they were going to take it. I told myself I would be happy with either, and even if Rey chose no one; after all, she doesn't need a man to make her happy. But I am a hopeless romantic. After the first argument between Poe and Rey, where I nudged my brother (who I saw all 3 movies with) and said "They're just like Han and Leia!", I had hopes.

But... they failed to continue with that bright start. And with the kiss between Ben and Rey at the end, I was pretty much resolved to settle for Reylo. And that was my focus for the first couple of month after the movie. But then something strange happened. A fellow Reylo fan, who had defended the first two movies despite all the hate going on, started bemoaning how 'Rey would never be happy now,' and she 'would never get to have babies,' etc. etc. And that pissed me off. Big Time. She had options, dammit! She could stay single and raise Force sensitive orphans. She had Finn. And of course, she had Poe. So, I wrote Rising, my first fanfic in almost 20 years.

When the pandemic hit, and I ended up working part-time, I decided I needed to continue with this post-movie world I had created. I still had a soft spot for Ben, and it shows up in my early works, but I wanted to make Rey and Poe find their happily ever after. Then something else strange happened. In one of my stories, Kennera, I wrote a scene from Poe's POV. Suddenly, I wanted to know more about the actor who portrayed him. And I found this...

That was that. I was hooked on this man. I started watching everything I could with him in it. And I continued to write Damerey, falling more and more deeply into that ship. Reylo became less and less interesting to me, and now I could care less about it. Damerey is everything to me. And it's been that way for almost three years now. I just freaking love them with everything in me.

To answer your question about the ship almost becoming canon, yes it almost did. Colin Trevorrow's script The Duel of the Fates almost became the third movie, and it included a lot more Rey/Poe interaction, even a kiss or two. Some say it's why that scene at the end of The Last Jedi was added, to introduce that attraction. But alas, it didn't happen.

If you had asked me two years ago if I had read any Poe x Reader stories, I would have scoffed at you. I am a reader of novels and I write in the same style and always will, so why would I read that? But... I've read several amazing writers that write in that style since then, and I have become addicted. I know I will never write that way, but I will enjoy others.

I think the fact that I don't write that way is the reason why no one on Tumblr (other than a few trusted friends) ever reads and shares my stuff. It's a bit lonely sometimes, but it is what it is.

i need yall to know that my whole life i have kept all my fanfics in a singular google doc. over the past seven years i have only had FOUR. docs. for my writings.

the first is everything from like. the 7th grade up to the start of my sophomore year, around 2018. mostly newsies (i was obsessed) with some destiel sprinkled in

the second (not pictured) has disappeared from existence, i think it got deleted when i lost access to my high school gmail account, but it had all my 2019-2021 finnpoe and assorted marvel writings.

the third was used i think... mid 2021 to mid 20022? which is an insane stat when looking at the word count, but it's from when i made the transition from ships to x reader up until my writing hiatus

and the fourth is my baby, from the past two ish weeks? where i've been putting my longer lip and carmy wips. i used to write requests and such in a doc and then transfer them to tumblr but recently i've been writing shorter things straight into the tumblr textbox and sending them out

first ship: no one laugh but my first conscious ship was bechloe from the pitch perfect movies (IN MY DEFENSE… HAVE YOU SEEN THE SHOWER SCENE?) but looking back before i even knew what shipping was (or that i was gay) i wanted silena and clarisse from the percy jackson books to be girlfriends so very badly.

currently reading: i haven’t had much time for reading recently because of finals but now that i’m graduated and i know my sister is getting me books for christmas i’m hoping to get back into it more. and in terms of fics i am actually hanging onto every update of green zone <3

last movie: in theaters it was wakanda forever (twice) but i also pirated the cam version of the menu last week because i was desperate to see redheaded anya taylor joy but too cheap and too busy to go see it in person. both very excellent. the menu was not about what i thought it was gonna be at all tho 😭 oh and my father decided to watch a very corny hallmark movie last night called the 9 kittens of christmas and i indulged him by sitting through it because it was about cats.

currently watching: i have multiple episodes of 911 to catch up on but i decided to rewatch s3 of teen wolf again, i just started willow because they have a knight/princess sapphic couple (thats canon!!!!), and also the world cup just ended so i was busy watching that too (last match almost gave me a heart attack i was covering my face and feeling ill every time the scores were re-tied).

consuming: now that i am no longer living in a dorm or on a dining hall plan i am eating any and everything to make up for my past few months of torture and deprivation.

craving: an indicator for wtf i’m supposed to do next now that i’ve finished undergrad and also egg drop soup because #comfortfood.

currently working on: i just finished an almost 45k word long fic that i planned to be like 20k max so i will definitely be taking a little break from writing but i have a partially started thiam fic titled “The Neck Thing” sitting in my docs that i need to finish planning because it’s cuter than the title sounds i promise guys 🙏.

Well, it has been six months and things look a little different here! New editing, something called Tumblrmart?? I checked in every so often on the app, but I had to login again on my laptop. So weird.

I never thought I'd leave Tumblr. I suppose I haven't, not really. It's been probably ten years for me hanging out here, maybe more? First with a bit of Harry Potter, then Torchwood and Doctor Who, then Star Wars and Finnpoe, my OTP. 🧡 But now it's been six months since I've posted. Just a lull, I suppose.

I moved. After seventeen years, I moved across the country and started over. And you know what? It's not easy. It's been harder than any other move - I miss my old house and friends and job terribly, even six months later. (Yes, I edited that.)

So that's why I kind of disappeared. We drove twelve hours with a cat and a kid over the summer and bought a lemon of a house and have been trying to settle ever since. You know that movie The Money Pit, where everything goes wrong with the house? That's us. I'd actually move again if it wasn't a total loss. We have so many more things to fix and four frustrating dogs that bark constantly next door. But as my husband says - we are bringing this house back to life and it will be amazing when we do. The rest of our family is only two hours away now instead of multiple states and a plane ride so that's nice - and all that plane fare $ has gone right into the money pit. Hopefully to include a new fence soon. 🤪

Anyway - my time is mostly given to general contracting (painting, landscaping, even fixed my sink today!) but I check for messages if anyone wants to say Hi. I'm sorry I haven't read anything since this summer. And I miss writing terribly but I'd only end up writing about Finn and Poe moving somewhere new and all the problems they encounter with their new house! Thank you to anyone reading and reviewing my fics - getting those notifications always makes me feel good and smile. I'm damn proud of some of those stories! I don't think I've missed any major SW/Finnpoe news but let me know if I did. Kenobi and Andor were fun to watch but I'm looking forward to The Mandalorian even more!
