Salty ask: 16 for Gravity Falls and Glee

Oooh! A person who likes Gravity Falls and Glee--truly an anon of taste.

Question 16 is, by the way: If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

So, for Gravity Falls, I think it's perfect in a lot of ways, I don't have too many complaints, and I'm definitely not one of the people who would make Dipcifica canon or let Dipper murder Dippy Fresh and let them swear, because none of those are what the show is about.

I would probably however do rewrites of Boyz Crazy and The Love God--perhaps use those spots for a Wendy-centric episode. Roadside Attraction remains--it is my beloved.

And now for Glee.

Glee is the opposite of Gravity Falls in that it's an absolute mess much of the time, however, I'm gonna focus on small things, rather than big picture changes, because part of the stupid charm of Glee is the mess. Here is my list:

More Tina, more Artie, more of them together either romantically or platonically

Erase the five-second relationship between Puck and Kitty--it served no narrative purpose, and was character derailment for Puck.

Have Santana report Sebastian to the police for the slushie incident, and get that boy gone.

Rewrite IKAG altogether, because that episode is a mess. Include Finn apologising.

Give Mercedes more gospel/Christian songs

Finncedes friendship

Keep Will's character as the 'cringey but genuinely nice teacher' from the first 13 episodes consistent throughout the rest of the show.

I'm curious, bc I don't see this pairing talked about a lot, but Finncedes? Do you have any thoughts on that?

I don't see it? though that probably has largely to do with the fact i don't like Finn much?

since analyzing ships is my niche, I'll try to break down how I view their dynamic.

I don't think they would work in a romantic context, they don't have anything in common?

the only situation I could see them having a friendship, is either Kurt being 'i would like if my best friend and step brother get along'?

I would love to see them sing, because 'good vibration' is an unhinged disaster.

now that I'm thinking about it, they would be kind of comedic.

like mercedes dated Sam the biggest himbo to ever himbo, so she has a tolerance for idiots??

and like a very fanon version of Finn that isn't a bigoted asshole.

they would sing questionable songs together.

also like Mercedes would be the one to adopt Finn.

she would see this clueless guy and go 'he needs helps'.

and he would adore her, like he would be so supportive?? and I feel like she would call him out on his bullshit.

turns out I don't hate them, some might say I think they would be a chaotic duo, platonically.

Movie Night || Finncedes

To say Mercedes was nervous, would be an understatement. She wasn’t sure what tonight was. Was it just two friends hanging out? Two exes rekindling something? Or just a teacher spending time with her students father? As much as she wanted to cancel, she didn’t because it was far too late for that. So instead she spent three hours trying to find the perfect outfit. One that said that she and Finn were hanging just for fun instead of the pressure filled one. So she wore a purple and pink tie dye jersey dress iwth a Jean jacket. The dress clung to her curves in a way she knew Finn used to love, but the tennis shoes and light makeup showed it was just hanging and not serious enough to constitute a date, at least she thought so.

Heading to Finn’s place, she stayed in her car for an extra ten minutes trying to get all of her nerves out. The way she and Finn ended was hard on her and if she fell back down the rabbit hole of loving Finn Hudson again, and he hurt her, she wouldn’t be able to deal with that. So it was decided she would keep her distance as best she could she would give him friendship, but nothing more, and she hoped that was enough. She also hoped her heart understood that as well.

camping trip || finncedes

Finn was used to being up early. Being a single parent of a child taught him to adapt his sleeping pattern to whatever was needed to tend to Liam. Thankfully, Liam’s sleeping pattern had become more steady now that he went to school, but his body was still suffering the side effects of being up at the strangest hours to check on his then-toddler. However, being ready to be out of the house by 5 AM was a tall order, even for him. And he could tell his son was not fond of being awoken at this early hour as well. 

“Come on, son. We’re taking the bus to the camping site today, remember? It’s gonna be the best weekend ever, promise,” he said as he gently shook the little kid, placing a kiss on his forehead before getting up to turn on the ceiling light. “Do you hear that? I think that’s Captain Crunch calling your name.” Once he finally got his son up and running and went through their morning routine together, he shot Mercedes a text while they were at the breakfast table. “We’re up. Just getting some quick breakfast in and we’re on the way,” the text read. 

For convenience, he asked his mother Carole to give them a ride to the meeting point, so that he wouldn’t have to deal with parking his car somewhere away from home for the weekend. “Thanks, mom. You’re the best. Say goodbye to your grandma, Liam.” He side-hugged his mom before stepping out of the car and towards the bus, seeing a few parents and a bunch of kids already. “Hey Mercy,” he shouted once he spotted his ex, now teacher of Liam’s. “You look a lot better than I do at 5 AM.”

Finncedes || Roadtrip || 4/11/20

Mercedes zipped her bag as she placed it by her door, she was in desperate need to get off campus so this road trip with Finn was a great comfort to her. First she had to deal with Sam and Quinn flirting all over the place, then Puck found out her secret about her health last week and she was still worried about others finding out. So doing something wild and crazy with Finn was much needed. She really liked hanging out with Finn, he was fun to be around and he made her feel really beautiful and smart in a way that she didn’t even realize she needed until they started hanging out and talking more.

She chewed her bottom lip second guessing her wardrobe choices, not really sure what she needed so she grabbed her little black dress and out it in just in case they did something she needed it for. She also made sure she had cash on her, since they didn’t know what they were doing or where they were going she figured while she had her debit cards, it was smarter to carry cash too. Making her way to his room, she smoothed down her purple and pink sweatsuit and knocked on his door. “Finn come on! We gotta get snack before we get on the road!!”

How I feel about this character:

I love her. She's insufferable, she's sincere, she's funny, she's most definitely autistic, she really is The Character. She's not my absolute favourite, but she's up there, and Glee would unequivocally not be what it is without her.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

To be honest, Finn is my first and main choice for her. I just love Finchel...

otherwise, none of the other canon characters really call out to me as a partner to her. Maybe an OC.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Kurtchelcedes for the win! I love the divas being besties. I reckon they watch all the major award shows together, and make predictions and be delightful.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Both popular fandom interpretations have correct elements; she's a double-edged sword. Yes, she's a passionate, ambitious and quite possibly autistic young woman who has been a victim of constant and often vicious bullying, and I think she's also an self-serving, insufferable theatre kid with egomaniac tendencies and occasionally extreme reactions to being upstaged. Both are correct. She's complicated.

ALSO, my unpopular opinion is that I don't hate Season 3B for her. A lot of people complain about her being willing to defer her application for Finn and Kurt, or consider somewhere other than New York to study, because 'oh, she's acting OOC, she cares about Finn more than her dreams, what happened to crackhouse!Rachel', and while I do think that Rachel throwing away her dreams for a man (which she wasn't really, she still had every intention of being a star) isn't necessarily a good thing, the disappearance of crackhouse!Rachel is. Rachel learning to take other people's feelings into consideration--especially the feelings of the man she plans to marry--is a GOOD THING. Rachel being willing to be adaptable is a GOOD THING. Thank you.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Of course, I wish that she'd managed to have an ending with Finn--not necessarily RM's ending, but an ending, maybe in one of the non-Manhattan New York suburbs.

On a side note, I wish we'd seen her participate in more community theatre--maybe do local productions, or something.

FINN:

How I feel about this character:

Finn is one of my absolute favourites, along with Mercedes. He's a very realistic teenager, and I think he's honestly the main character of Glee.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Rachel mostly, but in the reality where I can't ship any of my main ships (I once worked out what my Glee ships would be if I couldn't ship any of the OTP's) would honestly have to be Finncedes. I think they'd hit it off.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Honestly, Finn and any of the guys. I love when the guys are just hanging out doing guy stuff--like helping Puck study, or ambushing him on a pool cleaning job.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Very little that he does falls out of the realm of 'things a teenage boy might do'. Sure, that might make him a jerk at times--and he is a jerk at times--but he's not an extra-special form of Super Jerk Worst Character Ever

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

aside from the tragically obvious, I really wish that he'd just apologise to Santana for outing her. That would have been so easy, and I think it would have made the whole thing feel so much more natural--you can see already that he's already aware that he did the wrong thing and is attempting to make it up to her, and it would be much better if he'd just apologised as well. Especially since he's apologised for most other egregiously wrong things he's done, usually immediately after the fact.
