Your lonely yet calm walk down to Ray's Occult Books couldn't have gone worse.

You were listening to Remy through your wired earbuds, enjoying the sunny weather in the city. You carry about fifty dollars in your wallet, wanting to spend it on some of the books at the shop. Ray always had the weirdest but most intriguing selection, it was impossible to not stop by every here and there once you finished up another novel.

You turn to cross the street, jaywalking, perhaps. In truth and in your defense, there was no one at that night until that stupid asshole showed up. Why he was driving like a maniac at top speed was beyond you, but luckily for your quick reflexes, you'd lived to see another day. You watch as the car speeds away, tire marks staining the concrete road.

You gasped for air, having felt like you'd nearly thrown up your heart and stomach. You throw your middle finger up, a look of frustration on your face. You turn back, continuing your walk down to your location.

As you enter the building, the doorbell jingles, causing Ray and Podcast to look up and at you.

You were sitting on the couch of your apartment, it was nearly 9 p.m., and you had your daughter cradled in your arms, all sleepy eyes and comfy clothes. She knew daddy had to work long hours that week - Finn was directing a short film he had been really excited about lately - and probably would be there the next morning, when she woke up. But then, you two heard a house key turning at the front door.

Your daughter squirmed out of your embrace, quickly putting her tiny feet on the wooden floor and toddling towards the door. You looked up and smiled as Finn grabbed her off the floor and lifted her up to his face, hugging her tight.

“There you are, baby girl! Daddy missed you so much! Where’s mommy?” Finn said, sounding tired, but happy to be home.

You rushed towards him, giving him and your baby a hug, in a cute family moment.

“Missed you so much too, my love” he pecked your lips. “Were you putting her to bed?”

You nodded, smiling at how your daughter put her little arms around Finn’s neck, hugging him tightly and splaying kisses all over his face.

“Daddy’s home!! Daddy’s home!!” She cheered, happily clapping her tiny hands and smiling. Her raven black hair and cute dimples didn’t lie - that girl was the spitting image of her father.

Finn and you brought the little one into the couch, whilst he talked to her about her day and how much he missed her and her mommy at work. She kept kissing his face non-stop, making him laugh.

“Good night sweetheart” you said. “Tomorrow daddy has the day off and we can do something fun together”

She smiled, “yay!”

“Yes…” she closed her eyes, holding her teddy bear tightly to her chest.

You and Finn kept looking at her and each other for another moment, but as her breathing became more rhythmic, you realized she had fallen asleep. but when she was 8 and until she was 14 she played hockey, but she stopped because she wanted to focus on modeling and acting

You said that according to you there is a way to make Mileven stay together and have all the characters have a good arc at the end of the show. Could you develop that? cause in my opinion if Mike's arc is about falling in love , changing his personality after meeting a girl and at the end being the protective paladin to "fix" his bad behaviour then it's really bad writing (coming from a straight person)

I'm going to be completely honest here, which I hope is what you want lol, I do think I say this (sans the "good arcs" part bc I don't think I've ever said that there's a way to make Mileven happen where all the characters have good arcs) to more-or-less make myself feel better bc I have so much Byler doubt (& Mike love) so yeah, take this as you will, this is just what my brain has come up with as an arc(?) I could mostly cope with. I mean, there's a reason I put "(mostly) happy" but yes, I'll try to expand.

I love Mike and I have a feeling I will continue to love Mike whether Mileven or Byler is endgame. This is purely because I do not believe Mike is a bad person or bad character just bc he's made some bad decisions/said some things he (canonically) regrets. I don't think Mike would be a protective paladin to simply "fix" his "bad behavior". While I do agree that this wouldn't be the best writing choice, I think, in-context, he would be trying his best to keep everyone he loves alive. He is an extremely traumatized teenage boy whose biggest fear is losing those he loves. He has been smack-dab in the middle of the action until s4. Finn Wolfhard himself has said Mike is depressed and pushing everyone away bc of it.

Anyways, all of this to say that I don't think it'd be too farfetched to say all of his "bad behavior" is simply untreated trauma symptoms. And yes, you could say something about other characters being traumatized and them not acting like Mike, but trauma, and this is a fact, effects everyone differently. One person may lean into their life before going through said trauma, like Will in s3, while another may block it out, like it's shown with El in s4, and another may completely change themselves while being stuck in a loop of wanting those he loves close to him but also wanting to keep them at a distance bc he is so terrified of losing them. Dr. Owens even says in s2 that a sign of PTSD is change in personality and lashing out, which we see both in Mike. Plus all the parallels bt him and Max in s4, it's safe to say this boy is struggling mentally.

I do think it would make sense, when we finally get Mike's POV in s5, for a lot of his controversial moments to be fueled by his mental health struggle. Now, do I think this is an excuse? Not necessarily, but it does make sense, and as far as I know, anytime Mike's actively made anyone upset he's apologetic (like I said earlier, lashing out). I believe that if the show solely focuses on Mike's mental health issues, then Mileven wouldn't be out of the question.

I do want to add that this is not how I want the story to go, I would much rather his story go the Byler route, but I've said before that his character is not solely dependent on either Byler or Mileven, and I still stand by that. He should not simply be seen as a 'romantic interest' character bc he is more than that and he has his own problems (that we aren't necessarily shown) that have nothing to do with who he's in a romantic relationship with.

Now, again, this is probably mostly just something I've convinced myself I'd be alright with, but I am aware that this in and of itself would be boring and not very good writing. I also do not know, in this case, what would happen on the Byler side of things, this why I say "(mostly)". I am fully a Byler shipper and would prefer Byler endgame to anything really, but I'm a Mike-stan first and foremost.

Sorry if this wasn't too clear, I feel like I just rambled and repeated myself a lot. Thanks for the ask, though! And pls if you or anyone else has questions about anything I said, pls ask me! Trust me, I know this isn't foolproof and I'm probably just dumb 😂

TLDR: I think it's possible they could go more towards untreated PTSD and trauma/mental health related route for Mike in a way that would make Mileven possible. Doesn't mean I'd think it's necessarily good writing, but I could see it going that way.

I feel like y’all are sleeping on the canonically-overlapping timeframes between It Chapter 1 & Stranger Things.

Will goes missing in early November (aka fall) of 1983. It Chapter 1 takes place 1988-1989, with Georgie going missing October 1988, and all the action taking place the subsequent summer.

The summer of 1989 would be when the Party graduates high school, you guys.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if Ted Wheeler had a sister, Maggie Tozier, perhaps? Finn Wolfhard has said that Richie and Mike wouldn’t get along, and Mike being frustrated with his dipshit little cousin is hilarious to me.

There are already crossover fics existing—ones that make Mike & Richie twins, ones that have Richie as the elder cousin, lots of ones that have Richie sent to live with/visit the Wheelers in Hawkins—but none I’ve seen that take the timeline into account, none with Mike as the elder cousin, and few that primarily take place in Derry.

What about, instead, starting post-season 4, with Karen Wheeler? The Wheelers are incredibly flawed, as parental figures go, but the end of season 4 leaves off with them seeming to pay more attention to the dangers in their children’s lives. Perhaps Karen Wheeler, newly wise to the supernatural dangers of Hawkins, sends Mike and Holly to live with their cousins in Derry for their own good? Hawkins is practically a ghost town, after all… Nancy’s over 18, Karen can’t control her—but she can protect her younger two, at least.

Perhaps it’s discovered that Mike was a target of Vecna, and the party, on edge and traumatized after Max, advocates for him to move away, where he’ll be safe, unintentionally heightening Mike’s feelings of uselessness (but he knows he could be useful, if they’d just listen this time, if they’d just let him stay… he feels sick thinking it, but also sickeningly justified in it, too: if he’d been in hawkins when they went for vecna that first time, max would be awake, and eddie would be alive. Mike could’ve done better, he just knows it, if only he’d been there to plan, he would’ve done better than the harebrained scheme nancy threw together, nearly getting max killed, and he only just made up with will, and eddie is dead, and he cant leave now—).

(It’s interesting to explore how mike sometimes simultaneously overconfident & incredibly insecure, as well as his (mis?)perception of himself, nancy, etc. Another interesting theme to explore here is the concept of usefulness, and how that does or does not factor into being loved and having value. Mike is useful, Mike is a leader… but by taking away Mike’s opportunities to express these things, it forces Mike to contend with his own self-worth and how he values himself, and his feelings on having to be “useful” in relationships relationships/to be loved (see: she doesn’t need me, mike’s van ramblings on lois lane, etc).

On top of that…what if Ted died fighting the upsidedown, protecting his children, and Karen shuffles the kids off to Derry shortly thereafter? Maybe she stays with Mike and Holly in Derry, but maybe she doesn’t stay forever—perhaps she returns to Hawkins to try and defend her wayward, rebellious eldest, Nancy, fighting at her daughters’ side and avenging her late husband. So Mike is left to grapple with the loss of his father mostly on his own, though Aunt Maggie and Uncle Went do their best. Perhaps it’s made worse by the fact that, just as his parents seemed to be doing better, to be caring, one got himself killed and the other abandoned them. In their attempts to “do better” they both—well, they don’t. Frankly, mike preferred when they didnt pay attention at all. At least they were all alive, and mike was with the people he loved. Will he have to forgive them, now? His father and his last-minute heroics, as though that makes up for a lifetime of distance; his mother and her grief, deciding that acknowledging her failures as a parent means giving up all hopes of being a better one?

(Themes? Forgiveness, parents, the impacts parents have on their children, etc.)

And on top of all of that, now he’s stuck in this shitty, homophobic town, one that isn’t all that different from his shitty, homophobic hometown, except that missing children are mundane here and most of the people he loves are miles away. Oh, and also it’s cold as fuck, because he’s in Maine, and he has to share a room with his shitty little cousin, Richie.

Mike is abruptly shoved into the same position El was—he’s dealing with a lot of shit at school, but why the hell would he tell el about it, with everything she’s dealing with in hawkins?? El had it worse in Lenora, apparently—given the way she reacted when he tried to compare their experiences with bullying.

(This isn’t entirely accurate, isn’t reflective of the intention behind El’s statement or the reason she reacted to Mike the way she did, merely a way Mike might internalize and interpret and be affected by El’s response to him talking about his experiences with bullying in season four.)

Reconstructing cerebro on the roof without dustin sucks. Being unable to communicate with the people he loves would suck more, though, and telephone lines are never private, no matter who’s listening in (nosey aunts and cousins or government agents on their side or government agents decidedly NOT on their side—it doesn’t matter. They don’t get to spy, because it’s not of their goddamn business).

(At least he and will are talking. Every other night, practically. Mike climbs out of the window of his shared bedroom, sits on the roof next to his Cerebro, and talks and talks and talks with will until the sky gets light. They discuss the latest new of the upsidedown, their friends, will’s connection to all of it, their families. Will is the only person mike tells, honestly, about what it’s like in Derry. They talk about light things too—plan campaigns they know they’ll never get to play, talk about comics and gossip about annoying siblings & cousins. When the Little Shop of Horrors movie comes out, they watch it separately & then talk about it together. Overall, they’re making a better go of it than the last time they tried long distance.)

(The cognitive disconnect for mike between what he’s experienced, what his friends have experienced, and the relatively mundane (for now) evils of derry high school might be interesting to explore, too.)

Life continues in this vein for about 2 years. The upsidedown & vecna aren’t fully resolved, but things are at a kind of stalemate, at least.

And then, in 1988, Georgie Denbrough goes missing.

why could you “never get behind byler”?

I mean, there are a few different reasons. First off, I'm not blind to the fact that Will is in love with Mike, like that is pretty obvious and I want to see what they do with it but I personally feel like it should stay as an unrequited thing.

As to why I don't like it, I've always been a bit of a sucker for the "first love last love" trope. There is probably an actual name for it, but couples like Nick and Charlie or Simon and Baz, where they find their true love first go, they have always held a special place in my heart, which is why I prefer Mileven.

Another reason is just down to bias. Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown were, and to a certain extent, still are, I guess, my favourite cast members for a long, long time.

And finally, I just have always felt that the chemistry was much better between Mike and El than Mike and Will.

He's self-aware and knows that this is a fucked up fantasy. He would never force his affections upon you. When he touches you, he is sure to keep his touch and kiss light so that you may push him away if you so desire.

What happened was, he saw you at his favorite record store and was immediately enamored by you. Something cracked within him. Ideally, obviously, Finn would one day like you to realize you love him too. At the moment, that's as far as he's gotten, because he doesn't want to give his hopes up thinking about having a family with you when he isn't even sure you'll ever love him.

Finn gets jealous quite easily, actually. Though, it isn't the lashing out, I'm so pissed I could murder someone type of jealous. At least, not super often. It's incredibly rare that he gets the angry type of jealous. Finn's jealousy is more along the lines of I'll never be good enough for you, it's pointless to hope you will ever love a monster like me type of jealous. His way of coping is just to love up to you, cuddling you, mostly just to make himself feel loved by you for at least a few moments, even if he knows he's delusional and that the cuddling is completely one sided.

Finn's kisses are, as said before, feather light. Practically whispers against your lips. His favorite way to kiss you is by slowly sliding his hands along your shoulders, neck, and to your cheeks. Then he'll slowly lean in and leave little butterflies kisses. He never full on kisses you with deep, forceful mannerisms, he feels that would freak you out.

Finn's personality isn't drastically different with you than with everyone else. He speaks to you like he would his friends, the only difference is he isn't keeping his friends captive in his apartment.

He doesn't really have any one specific rival, he really just detests all the men in your life in general.

Finn falls more on the obsessive side of the spectrum. He's not super possessive of you, but he does think about you near constantly. You rule over his every thought, he thinks about you whenever he does anything, even when it doesn't pertain to you.

As you'd expect, Finn is incredibly patient. He wants nothing more than for you to love him, and he's afraid that if he's forceful or cruel to you, you will never love him. So, he lets you lash out at him, hit him when he comes too close to you, yell at him, demand him to let you go. He takes it all stoically, without a word and without anger.

If you were to die, or to leave and successfully escape, Finn would be devastated. Though the pain would be heavy enough to want to end his own life, he would never do so because in his mind, he doesn't deserve the sweet release of death. For he failed to keep his darling safe from harm, and to capture your heart. He would never get over you, and if he ever managed to, it would be years and years and years into the future. Most likely, his new darling would bare a heavy resemblence to you, because even if he moved on, he would never truly get over you and the affects you had upon him.

Finn feels guilty for kidnapping you all the time, he often toys with the idea of just letting you go and seeing if you will come back to him, but ultimately he never does. For one thing, he doesn't want to risk you leaving him and never returning. For another, he's scared you'll turn him in and he'll get arrested.

Not even Finn himself is sure what brought it about. His past relationships were all fairly basic for the most part. He wasn't a bad boyfriend by any means, but he also wasn't a super protective one. But when he saw you.. something inside of him just broke. He wonders if maybe he had been like this all along, and that there was just something about you that brought it to the surface.

Trying to give all benefits of the doubt so first: thank you for the opening, it's clear you usually appreciate my post and that's sweet.

This ask was strangely personal though and that was upsetting. There is no need to bring assumptions about my personal life or people of my sexuality into it.

I became a Byler in the roller rink fight, so I was just trying to share my perspective of that. All I meant by it was to bring in various examples of Finn Wolfhard cinematic universe face holding. It didn't have to be a direct example of something to perfectly recreate. I also very much like Nick and Charlie's second kiss if that's a better example for you.

Overall, I'm gonna try and assume that everything on the line you said was meant lightheartedly, but when I first read it, it felt very targeted and I was hurt in how assumptions about my personal experiences were brought into is as if to discredit me for seemingly disagreeing.
