There's a huge dirth of information on the internet for finger weaving. I could find some stuff, but there's one thing I'm trying to figure out. A chevron in the middle with a solid color down the side. I can make them both separate and then kinda sew them together, but how might I just do it all as one weave? I want it to be grey on the sides of the whole weave and then a chevron pattern of red, white, and green in the middle.

I made this bag several years ago, but I'm not sure if I've ever posted pictures of it. It's made with denim scraps, a fingerwoven strap, and strawberry flowers, leaves, and fruits done in glass seed beads. The coin purse/card holder part on the interior was salvaged from a broken purse I inherited from my grandmother.

I have not posted any of my analysis to reddit yet and I think I might just post it and ghost it. I've already spent too much time looking at other people's threads on there to feel any way good about interacting with folks.
I already went in an added the "I know you're going to bring this up let me save you the time" section which is exclusively touching on the frequent topics of:
"well what about the fingerprint nostrum and finger mimics? He is clearly just a crackpot"
And
"it's definitely some weird elaborate sacrifice to Metyr thing"
#if he's drinking hallucinogenic tea in his free time genuinely good for him. whatever man. i just do not think either of those items are-#at all relevant to the quest especially the nostrum because it is a placebo medicine and aint nothing fake about this shit#also i think theres a distinction between becoming fingers vs wanting to replace metyr? idk like as ive said i think he thinks he's-#better than the fingerweavers and rightfully so#like please come to a new conclusion other than “man this guy is on drugs”#also girl... metyr doesnt need sacrifices. like? where is that textually or in set design? metyr wants us to leave her the fuck alone#she's minding her own business EVERY TIME WE SPAWN INTO HER ZONE#like why are people so desperate for everything to have a dark undercurrent? not everything has to be some dark disney ass shit#“actually finding nemo is a hallucination & Marlin is insane & nemo is dead that movie is actually super fucked up & dory is a grim reaper”#like im sorry but this is how this extra shit all feels to me#like it is already fucked up and miserable?#is he 100% a good person? like thats genuinely person to person. theres personal gain from the quest#and hes definitely very good at getting what he wants#manipulate manifest mother#tail fingers on the vision board#devon yaps#and yap I did#like I don't want to be a bitch because yeah we should genuinely celebrate other peoples theories and hcs in these games#but i dont think “lol this guy is just on drugs” is one of those things#because i like spooky theories if theyre backed up.#but to say “its this weirdly horrible thing and youre all wrong” especially in his context is not great to me#Sorry. like may my own arrogance strike me down like the scholar i think i am 😤 farewell#because again its coming down to meeting this narrative without preconceived bias and most of the reddit stuff feels like-#“he is fucked up. won't say why. but i bet you know why i actually think this 🤫🤫🤫” like just you cant wrap your brain around guy mom#i do really want to reiterate this is about reddit shit. like i am so into people who love his character but interpret him more sinister💕😚#truly eating that shit up

About 1/6 of what I want to have is done now.
Featuring my currently paused crochet project which is waiting for me to figure out the maths of adding to a circle to make it square or undoing that round shape and doing 4 more squares in a different pattern instead.

Remember that black-and-white fingerwoven strap I made, ages ago? The one that seemed too short to be useful? Turns out, it's perfect for my car keys!
And my brother saw it, right around his birthday, and said "Hey, could you make me one that matches my car???"
And so, here we are! :D:D:D
#Things I made!#fingerweaving!#I can see how much I improved at keeping the tension consistent with this center-out chevron when I compare the ends#But I'm pretty sure no one else will!#I'm almost out of the little hardware hooks!#And I still haven't made the thing I bought them for!#oops! But that just means I'll have to order more.#It IS astounding how useful inch-wide handwoven straps of various lengths can be!

Beautiful! I think I'll try the hem stitch on my next finger weaving works.
Finishing off the weave: hem stitch, cutting off, and the first look at the unspooled fabric! Featuring Sophie.
I'm very happy with the way this came out. I never want to weave with this yarn again. This ended up as a 24-hour project!
I still need to do some little cleanup bits, and maybe twist the fringe. I'm not sure if I want to keep this as a scarf, or use it as a fabric to sew into something.

I have to give my wrist a break for a few days.
My tendinitis is acting up and now I have a bit of swelling going on.
In the meantime, here's one of my favorite pieces I've done. This was my first full sized flame pattern sash.

Would it be recommended to make ribbon on a loom? I see jacquard ribbon in stores and I know that’s a type of loom. Is this something a person could make at home?
you can absolutely make ribbon by hand! many cultures have versions of band or tape weaving (those are older terms to refer to thin decorative strips of fabric, and helpful to know if you're researching weaving this type of textile) and they can be warp or weft faced, in other words the vertical threads can make the patterned design or the horizontal threads can make the patterned design. warp-faced woven bands are very popular in many cultures because they make a durable, strong fabric that can work for anything from straps for bags or other utility items, to decorative applique on garments and even hem-facings
norwegian pick up band weaving gives an effect similar to jacquard ribbon, you can see more about it here
brocade tablet weaving also gives a similar effect, which you can read about here
more about band weaving
fingerweaving is another technique that can create elaborately woven bands, and has been practiced in northern europe as well as among the indigenous peoples of the americas. it is the technique that métis sashes are made with, and bands woven with this technique have also been found in old viking graves. you can read about it here
if you're interested in learning any of these techniques, you don't need a table or floor loom to make them. some work best with an inkle loom, which is generally small and portable, or can be made off loom using heddles or tablets. searching 'band weaving' either online, at a book store, or a library site can lead to a ton of resources on the subject, far too many for me to cover here 🤎

Incase it wasn't clear I think about Ymir all the time and just, ugh. So much to think about. I'm truly going to just yap for a minute
What kind of sorcery did he teach Rellana? Clearly something influential enough for him to go with her, beyond just basic spells. She's far more battle magic oriented than Rennala. Why did he teacher her specifically? Was he out there before going into research/mom mode slinging sword spells and shit? Like 😩🥵 sorry
And I'm just thinking about the Carian Sorcerery sword you find in that chest that belonged to some other Carian in the land of shadow. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
And I'm also thinking about how all the fingerweavers we see died trying to learn about the fingers because whatever they saw was so inconceivable but like, he got farther than all of them. He was shown truths and what he got from it was literally the divinity of being a mother. That that's where it all started and has to start again. Like imagine how much that must make someone feel connected to the stars? Like how enlightening that shit is? How simple it makes it seem? There's life in the stars and they create all things, the stars themselves being born of the greater will. And he's given the ability to be able to create life on his own. Life that is inherently made of stardust, connecting him to it, molding that stardust into a living thing with his own body. Like fuck. Among the stars you will truly know love. He fuckin gets it.
Like I'm giving him a pass to be a little arrogant about finger sorceries and the other scholars who use novice spells and placebo shit. Those guys all fuckin died. They didn't get it. They couldn't nut up and become mothers.
#sorry. hes just......ugh#devon yaps#crazy i still got stuff to chew on with him months later#like what a guy..... i love you Ymir#count ymir#elden ring

Are you looking for something to satisfy the weaving urge until you get a new loom? Fingerweaving might be something to check out if that's relevant to your interests- it takes almost no equipment (none of which is specialized/expensive) and it's super-portable. My entire set-up for small pieces is just masking tape, two twist ties, a large hardcover book/clipboard and whatever I'm using for lease sticks (usually bamboo skewers).
👀👀 I am intrigued
