Don’t mind me I’m just thinking of this moment from season 3 and imagining another Philoise meet cute.
Tumblr media
Phillip comes to town to give the Featherington family in person news of Marina’s unexpected passing but he arrives to find Colin & Penelope are heading to the Bridgerton masquerade ball and before he can tell them his grim news, Colin is eager to extend the welcome he received when he first met Phillip, and insists that Lord Crane put on a mask immediately, which he does and they head across the square to Bridgerton house which is when Phillip bumps into Eloise who is emboldened by the fact that she is masked. She ditched her dance card and indulges in a bit more wine than usual since nobody knows she’s an unwed lady.
Eloise understands that the man is a masked stranger but he came in with Colin & Penelope so she is comfortable speaking to him. In casual conversation he confesses himself to be a recent widow and admits he is worried about his children who now have no mother to raise them. Eloise tells him she does not have children but she flippantly says that she would rather raise children than bear them because she is scarred by the idea of childbirth after hearing her mothers screams giving birth to her youngest sister.
Phillip jokingly suggests that they marry so she can just raise his children, and Elois is shocked but says honestly that compared to the usual way marriages are arranged, she’d much prefer that option. They take a liking to each other and Eloise finds herself flirting shamelessly before Penelope pulls her away to catch up since Eloise has just returned from Scotland.
Penelope mentions that the man Eloise was speaking with was Sir Phillip Crane, and Eloise realizes that if he’s recently widowed, it was Marina who passed and her children in need of a mother.
As the season progresses Eloise has learned of the cruelty Sophie suffered at the hands of her stepmother, having been raised without any family or the love of a parent. She grows increasingly distressed at the idea that Marina’s children are now motherless and fearful of what sort of woman they might have come into their life.By the end of the season, she has received a response to the condolence letter she sent to Lord Crane after the ball. He responded, having discovered that Miss Bridgerton was the woman he spoke to at the masquerade. He mentions that if she were amenable, they could wed so his children would have a kind mother, but that he would be happy to arrange a visit where she could meet the children first.

He responded, having discovered that Miss Bridgerton was the woman from the masquerade. Impulsively, Eloise flees to the county to meet the children without a chaperone or a plan, leaving a letter for Penelope as the last episode ends.

What do you think the likelihood is of us getting to season 5 (philoise)? I am keeping my fingers crossed the show will be greenlit for more seasons post S4 but there’s always the fear of cancellation…looking at you Netflix…
With all the trouble that they took to introduce Phillip in season one I don't that this ship is going to just disappear if they get cancelled there will be a Philloise happy ending
although I am wondering what will happen in season tree for the reason that marina's actress Ruby Baker, who is such a sweetheart you should follow her on Instagram, has been suffering from mental health concerns, and I don't know if this would affect her possible return for season three or if they could just write her off and just bring her back for season 4.
there is the possibility that Phillip and Eloise story may be brought forward due to the consideration to watch Ruby Barker’s mental health. bridgerton could just find a suitable reason for marina to not be on screen. it doesn't have to be at that she could just be traveling the continent, or like Francesca could appear for 3.5 seconds of screen time, because she was recovering in bath. but I do think that either marinas illness (if I’m not mistaken, her official cause of death was canonically pneumonia), or her eventual death will be introduced in season 3. there is a possibility that Penelope will receive a letter from Philip sometime at the beginning of the season just telling her that Marina is ill and to prepare for the worst and at the end of season 3, when Colin and Penelope are wrapping up their story,  we just have a brief appearance of Phillip just as we did in season one, To deliver the news in person that Marina has passed away just to drive in a little bit deeper how much lady whistledown affected everyone.
In that case we would have the entire of season 4, of Eloise writing to Phillip, while he is arguably in his 1 year mourning period, the actor doesn't need to be on screen for that, and in season five we get the proper introduction to their story. Alternatively they could just Fast forward all that and have Eloise and Philip in the same season as Benedict and Sophie
so yeah I have hopes for Phillip and Elise not that high but I know there's going to be at least a mention of them in season 3.

But enough about me. I wanted to ask you about When He Was Wicked. Specifically, how you would adapt it into the series. As you can see in this awesome timeline (©@pink-roses-garden for this brilliant tool), pretty much all of Francesca's story runs parallel with another book. John & Frannie courting is presumably at the time of AOFAG; part 1 mostly stands alone (until TSPWL starts), when part 2 happens it runs into RMB, and by the time Francesca gets her man, TSPWL ends too.
So, my question: how would you make sure that Francesca's story gets the focus and praise it deserves? While still counting in the other stories (most notably TSPWL; especially because Eloise and Francesca are such extremely different characters)?
I'm looking forward to reading what your ideas would be.
Kind regards,
— Thel. 💚
I honestly read and enjoyed the book for what it is, and didn’t think too much about how it would be adapted to the show, specially since it would be so far off in to the future. But now that you mentioned it, I feel like it would be a shame if the creators didn’t mess with the timeline a bit, and gave Michael and Francesca their own season. Not to mention, blending their story with that of Polin’s and Philoise’s will also be unfair to both of those couples and their fans. If they followed the books exactly, it would take 3 seasons to cover all three stories simultaneously, and that isn’t what Bridgerton is like.
But I do think they might have to introduce both John and Michael a bit earlier (maybe at the end of the 3rd season). Or, I would prefer it if they just waited and introduced them in the 6th season (fingers crossed there is one) and showed Michael and Francesca’s first encounter, John and Francesca’s wedding, a flash forward of the two years of their marriage, as well as Micheal’s reaction to having to endure being around her and John all the time, and then finally John’s death, all in the first episode, and then saved the rest of the episodes for Franchael’s story.
Even though the timeline is crucial to the flow of the books, the only thing that would really be altered is Colin being married. And his character’s contribution to WHWW could easily be done by a married version of him. Maybe it’ll even be better if he gave Michael advice from a place of experience. And same with Eloise, her being married doesn’t really alter the story too much. Francesca’s story doesn’t really have much to do with any events that occurred in any of her siblings lives. She has her own problems to deal with (a lot lol). Plus, the time between the start of RMB and the end of TSPWL is only 2 months, and WHWW spans throughout 6 years. I don’t see how much good it would do to mesh all of it together.
As for Francesca’s character getting enough focus, I do think that they need to include her more in the show. But I guess, she wasn’t really in much of the the first 5 books so that doesn’t leave much room for her to be in the show. I think she will be way more invloved in the 3rd season though, since she was in AOFAG a bit. But surely they could at least incorporate her more into family scenes right? Maybe give her more screentime in order for the viewers to really begin to understand who she is as a character.
I personally love how she was written in the book. She’s fierce and independent. Although she’s kind of an ambivert, and likes to keep to herself, she shares all the root characteristics of the other siblings (stubbornness, kindness and infinite love for their family), but she’s way more low key and subtle compared to them. She’s different but I think that makes her super interesting. She’s not in your face, but that doesn’t mean that she deserves any less screen time or dialogue 💁‍♀️
I think as long as they find a actor that could do justice to Michael’s character, keep both him and Francesca true to character, and have the storyline be anything close to what it is in the books, the praise will just come naturally. Because their story really is beautiful ❤️
