What does Frank look like in his more aquatic form? :}
While Frank may have turned into one of them, he's still pretty weak (a side effect of sorts). The most he can do is grow fins/gills, and scales that allow him to explore the ocean freely. His colors reflect his original form, having greyed scales with hints of dark teals and seafoam colors. When it comes to using magic though he has none unlike the others (Wally being the one with alarming strength in magic).
I think in this AU, Frank would be best as a marine biologist/researcher. It seems fitting.

Yes, I know that is a very small leopard seal, but I love those guys and I wanted to draw a leopard seal watching Frank read something.

silly idea
this has been running in my head for awhile. Like ADHD autistic reader going about there day until the see one of the wh finfolk crew sitting alone , in their mind they look sad so why not try and cheer them up, after all everyone likes nicknacks, pretty click clacks and you found a small pretty sea shell that looks like silver. So the reader goes up to the like " You look sad here, this gave me serotonin I hope it does the same to you" hand that little sliver sea shell and walking off not knowing what chaos they just caused.
Like the react to that interaction and the thought that go through each characters head if that happen to them, would be interesting.

Yet another version of my Welcome Home self insert Willow Wolfe! This time, I decided to throw her into @aerkame 's FinFolk AU! She takes the place of the Selkie reader, primarily because I thought it would be cute!
Tumblr media
I think this AU is so neat, and it's so much fun to draw and think about!
Some fun facts about Selkie Willow are under the cut!
Home girl is 8 feet tall, the same height as Frank and Julie! (Unless I change it later, lol!)
I imagine that she was let onto Home because Wally saw or sensed her or something and was like "yo we gotta protect that Selkie since they're y'know endangered" so she "accidently" washed up on Home's shores one day and boom! New Selkie friend!
When she washed up on Home's shores, a big reason why she willingly stayed was because she was afraid of people stealing her selkie coat (there was also plenty of finfolk typical gaslighting, don't you worry!)
The neighbors think she's just a cute lil' thing, and will often act accordingly (picking her up, playing with or doting over her, petting her, calling her cute lil' names, etc.)
As explained in the AU, the neighbors are pretty protective of their selkie friend, and make extra certain that they know where she is with the help of their shells
She's pretty playful and silly, as a seal would be, but she's still really shy and bashful
When a seal, she only grows a mere 6 inches in length, making her an 8'6" long seal
She always has her dark grey spots and long whiskers, even when not a seal
She is very soft to the touch in either of her forms, and her fur is somewhat dense and compact even in her normal wolf form!
Well, that's probably good for now! I hope you all enjoy my little silly wolf-seal! :)

Survive the Storm // Closed RP
@brothershardy
Tumblr media
Marine biology was....not the field that he expected to end up in. Hannibal was intelligent, and curious, and passionate about many things--too many. So in the end, he had to try and hone his interests and decide where to start. An unexpected opportunity to work on an extremely rare whale extinction prevention rather made the decision, and his degree was finished and his career accelerating weeks later.
The Northeastern University Marine Science Center was more than eager to bring him on board, hand him power and tools, and let him be unleashed on research. And that became his world.
The Odysseus was a small research vessel meant for not going too far offshore, primarily to collect samples and give them a preliminary review before taking them back to the Center for proper review. It was quite literally a half-day venture, with no risks, and prospect for significant research benefit.
The storm was not on the radar or forecast, and by the time they realized that the clouds were not passing by and the waves were becoming dangerous, the only choice was to hunker down and endure. But they were slow to respond adequately, leaving far too much invaluable equipment and some priceless samples on the deck, helpless to the elements.
Hannibal ignored the protests and demands that he come below deck, hurrying to secure anything that he could and make sure that most of it could be salvaged once the storm passed. This was familiar to him--disregard the rain, the pitching of the deck, the noise, the wind, just do the work--
But the deck was so slick. A wave struck, sending the boat to a nearly 45 degree angle, and Hannibal’s boots slipped on the glossy surface. He scrambled for footing, grasping for anything--and felt only air sliding through his fingers, an unheard cry leaving his lips as the boat tossed and resettled, and he was flung over the side into the churning sea below.

Hands up, who's never heard of Mermaid Regalia before?
Everyone of you with your hands up should go check her out RIGHT NOW!
Mermaid Regalia is a Canadian tailmaker from the prairies who makes incredibly unique pieces. She once made a Lisa Frank inspired tail that is just mindbogglingly vibrant! She doesn't get nearly as much hype as she deserves and I am here to MAKE THAT HAPPEN!
This top I ordered from her in March 2019 was my first ever custom mermaid piece! I sent her a bunch of pictures of my tail, but had no real ideas of what might look good. I trusted her to take artistic license and make something wonderful, and what arrived was better than I could have imagined!
One thing I was really concerned about was the bra base—my measurements are really bizarre and finding a bra that fits me can be wildly hit and miss! She made the top so that not only is it a halter top, but the back has a tie as well to make it far more adjustable than a bra clip. It also came with removable bra straps that can be worn in addition to the main halter straps, which are a true blessing for relieving the shoulder strain I get from halter tops. The cup size unfortunately still turned out much too large, but the design of the top has such awesome coverage and security that you'd never know it! Seriously, right now I challenge you to watch one of the videos of me underwater—you probably wouldn't even have realized that it doesn't fit if I didn't tell you, never mind that it's at least two cup sizes too big!
I'm also a huge fan of the sculpts! The filigree is such a great touch—she gave me the option of with or without, and really the filigree just brings it to the next level. And I really feel like the totally smooth, perfectly round scales often seen in silicone pieces tend to look very artificial and uniform; I love how the slightly scalloped edges and grooved surfaces give these scales a more organic, textured look.
This top has been an integral part of my mersona from the beginning, and I'm really pleased with my decision to commission her!

Welcome Home Finfolk AU Headcanons Part 1
Just some headcanons on the characters so I can come back to this later for writing/reference. And a bit of a tease for some people eager for Finfolk/selkie stuff. Warnings: Implied kidnapping. It's kind of a given considering that in Orkney folklore finfolk often kidnap people they like/love.
Original post:
(I guess this takes place in a puppet world? Like humans are just humanoid puppets so it's not as confusing to make Welcome Home characters complete puppets but finfolk versions.)
Eddie Dear:
A complete sweetheart of a captain that's a bit clumsy. While Wally can steer the waters himself, he'd much rather have Eddie be the captain on most of their ships, having found that the much larger man knows the waters better than himself and Home.
Eddie is so sweet that most don't even notice the unusual way his felt skin slightly changes colors when it rains, the small finned ears tucked under his captain's hat, or the tiny teal scales that grow under his arms when he's stressed. Maybe he's a lot more clever than people realize. Using that sweetness of his to distract others from what's happening...nah, he's just a clumsy sweet guy, right?
Instead of having shipments in, it's usually Eddie that helps bring in most of what the island has when it comes to strange items. They're still a bit stuck in the 70s so sometimes Eddie brings back boatloads of lost shipments with up to date everyday items.
Wally Darling:
Wally Darling is a true finman at heart. He keeps all those he is close with very close on this island he made so long ago with his and Home's own magic. He may or may not have helped kidnap a few of the neighbors with Home and others, bringing them here.
Sometimes Wally will find himself in looser fitting clothing on warmer days. But usually he keeps a suit worn with his pompadour being well-kept. Everything at Home must be perfect.
Unlike most finmen, his powers have gone far beyond what is normal. While most can control the ocean waters through waves and small rain showers, Wally has little to no trouble making storms, hurricanes, giant whirlpools, and changing the very currents of the ocean to his favor.
Making Home was probably his greatest feat yet. Creating an island wasn't uncommon for his kind. But creating a giant, living, sentient island hidden within a vale of sorts in the middle of the ocean that not even other finmen could reach was something otherworldly. It's like he's creating a whole new world.
He will sometimes crash planes and ships far out in the ocean if they so much as get too close to the world they reside in. Of course he ensures that Eddie, Howdy, or Barnaby goes over to the crash sites to wipe away any memory of where the passengers have been, just in case...and maybe he should start up a rough storm or two in that area for good measure. You can never be too sure.
Of course Wally never expects anyone to actually make it to the shores of Home, but if someone ever did, well...that would be quite the impressive feat! You'd have to not only get past the others sensing your presence in their waters (coupled with oncoming storms), but also get past the vale their world resides in.
Truly, Wally just wants everyone in Home to be able to live happy and free here. He often creates more and more islands and small peninsulas along with the others just to explore and have fun. And they do have fun and joy, almost everyday! Though he needs to slow down on the island-making, he often gets lost on his own creations sometimes.
Barnaby B.Beagle:
At first glance he's just a big ol' fluffy dog with a big personality, but when it rains or when water is doused on the guy? He really tends to grow in size.
Unlike the others, Barnaby tends to have a completely different form when he lets loose. Instead of scales, he grows smooth and cool skin, and instead of pointy fin ears he grows side gills and one large triangular fin on his lower back. (Poppy often needs to help fix his clothes for this reason.) All this topped with giant rows of sharp teeth. Very shark-like indeed.
Due to his size and sharp features, it's no wonder that Barnaby often accompanies Eddie or Howdy when taking care of people that are getting too close to Home, or when someone on the mainland is getting a liiiittle too close to pinpointing where Home's vale is. You could say he's a bit like a giant guard (shark?)dog.
Sometimes Frank wonders if Barnaby is even a finman like the others or if he's some kind of hybrid...or possibly a subspecies?
This big guy is friendly and loves cracking jokes, but he isn't dumb, and he definitely isn't letting anyone hurt his family.
Wally and Barnaby go way back to when he was just a pup (get it?), having been washed up ashore on what was a lonely Home at the time. Wally was the first person to ever treat him so kindly and not judge him for how he looked in his original form. Most finmen hated it.
Barnaby so far has been the only one to ever make it to Home on his very own. Maybe it takes something special to get here. Or maybe it was Home who invited him that time and not Wally's invitation.
Frank Frankly:
Quite frankly the most nerdiest guy at Home. Not only is Frank's house neatly organized with specimens of insects everywhere, but that has evolved to specimens of fish and many books on mythical sea creatures, something that started all thanks to Eddie and Home.
Frank remembers his first time here clear as day. He was so skeptical that finfolk were real or that any mythical creature was real. It took a lot of convincing and quite a few magic tricks to finally get him to open up his eyes about that.
The man has been obsessed with the life that resides in the ocean since he first learned about finfolk. You could ask him about any, and I mean ANY sea creature and he'd probably know everything about it.
One of his keen interests is that of finfolk and selkies. They had similar traits but were vastly different in many ways. Finfolk he could research on however long he wanted considering he was living with them. But unlike finfolk, selkies weren't seen as much anymore. Stars, selkies were even considered on the verge of going extinct according to other finfolk and sea creatures, something about selkies getting their coats stolen too often? Frank would shake his head at that thought. Some people were just too cruel.
Sometimes Frank will feel a pang of loneliness when studying on his own, but usually Eddie is there to cheer him up, or Julie, even if she was a bit too much.
Both Julie and himself are the only residents at Home that are not finfolk, just some ordinary people that found their way here, though they don't remember how or when...
You(Suprise short fic! Hahahaha-):
There was something off about this part of the ocean. You have never ventured this far out before, always staying close to coasts and peninsulas, but it was like you were just drawn to a force here.
You perched yourself onto the small deck of the tiny sailboat you owned and crossed another spot out on the map. There was nothing here either, just like the past few miles you checked. No islands or signs of land in sight...and yet you could sense that something was indeed there. Call it an instinct, but your body was refusing to leave you alone until you satisfied your curiosity.
Looking down into the deep waters, you debated on going back down there to take a second look...nah. You were still soaked and the fur would take forever to dry off again. That, and the skies continued to darken as if it would rain any second now. Actually, a nice swim and a quick look seemed like a good idea.
The fur hood slipped over your head as you buckled the inside of your jacket to keep everything secured, the last thing you needed was a current to take away your seal jacket, you put too much time and effort into making your seal fur a real set of clothes.
You jumped in as soon as thunder roared right behind you, feeling the tingling feeling of bristles and fur wrapping around your felt skin. There wasn't supposed to be a storm yet...
The currents began to change, almost pulling you towards the place of interest from earlier, it was far too strong for you to swim against even as your flippers swished back and forth as hard as they could. Before you could turn your back to face another direction, rough waters ripped your body from left to right, up, and down, until everything felt too dizzy to gather your surroundings. Your vision was such a blur that you did not notice the sailboat you were once on begin to sink down towards you. A long metal object suddenly made contact with your head and everything went black.
I had this finfolk-selkie hybrid OC for the longest time and every time I looked at selkie OCs no one seemed to make it into normal-ish clothing. Like imagine being a selkie in the modern world. Having a seal coat turned into the softest hoodie or jacket would be the best thing ever. You could take it anywhere with you in plain sight and no one would even know.

While drawing fin-man Wally, I noticed the swirls that are on his face. Do those form when Wally or the other residents transform ?(here's the drawing, I love his design 🫶🏼🫶🏼)
Tumblr media
You bet! (Also I love the drawing!)
Though I forgot to draw the swirls on the others, I kept forgetting. The swirls appear differently for each character as well. For example, Frank has more square-ish swirls while Wally's are rounded.

I really love your finfolk au and the amount of care you have put into the world building and characters.
If it's okay, can I ask some questions about the story?
In one post, you mentioned that Frank seemed to not mind being tricked into coming to the island, and "maybe at some point he gave up" (or something to that affect?). You also mentioned that he keeps his bowtie as a reminder of his old life.
So, how did Frank first react to being trapped on Home? Did he resist like the Selkei OC? Was he tricked into transforming, or did he he know what the potion was for? How long has he been on the island?
(This has nothing to do with anything you've already shared. Just a 'what if' that's been bouncing around in my head)
If Sally had gone on one of her killing sprees while a neighbor-- lets say Eddie-- was trying to woo someone from the mainland, would there have been a way for her to know that, hey, maybe leave that one grey nerd alone?
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really love folklore and I thought finfolk folklore was just perfect for the kind of writing I want to experiment with. :)
Frank had knowingly came to the island with Eddie and actually willingly allowed himself to be transformed. It was from curiosity but mainly done because he loves Eddie enough to give up his old life as a marine biologist. Even though he does miss some parts of his previous life, he wouldn't change what he has now. It's because of this that Home and the others didn't even try to force Frank to stay, they already knew he never wanted to leave any of them to begin with.
So of course, he won't run, not ever. Not when the love of his life and best friends are here.
It took time to get used to things, yes, but it was worth it in the end. Something that Frank found to be intriguing was not only the magical abilities of finfolk, but also the many forms they could take on. For example, he and the others could take on any face, shape, or form of another puppet, sometimes even making a whole now identity unique to themselves...but when it came to being in a finfolk form only finwomen could transform themselves into what look like mermaids. Full tail and everything. Finmen could only grow fins along their bodies.
The magic that Frank was allowed to use wasn't his own. Only true finfolk could use their own magic so he had to 'borrow' Home's magic in the form of a seashell. He always kept the shell clipped to his bowtie or vest whenever he wore it. It not only allowed him to use some magic (it was weak, but it got the job done when used), but it looked quite fitting with his outfit.
He likes to visit the mainland with Eddie sometimes even if he no longer lives there. It felt so nice to see new and old faces pass by. Frank also loved to revisit the places that Eddie often takes him to for dates. It was truly a dream.
It was almost funny really.
Back when Frank was just a normal puppet he honestly thought Sally was going to kill him or Eddie as either a jealous ex or some murderer wandering the streets. The yellow star had been caught stalking the both of them and on one night while he was alone, she came to him talking about how head over heels Eddie was in love.
"You know, it'd be a shame if something were to happen to you...poor Dear would be heartbroken."
The finwomen examined her claws while speaking, it left Frank terrified and unsure of his own safety, he was not quite understanding if whether or not Sally was a fiend or a siren judging by her finned head and arms. Either way she looked ready to kill something. It wasn't going to be him though.
Turns out Sally just had a sick sense of humor or she tended to word things poorly. She had really just showed up to make sure Frank remained safe for the night after Eddie had some business to take care of.
It took a few minutes of awkward silence for Frank to realize Sally wasn't here to kill him. Of course she clarified what she meant only after Frank had the third panic attack that night. She had a good laugh about it and he had a good pout about it.
Frank isn't upset about it anymore really. If anything, he's glad Sally showed up the way she did otherwise he never would have found out about finfolk or what Eddie really was. Even when he did find out he wasn't mad, disgusted, or upset. He was curious, intrigued, and falling deeper in love for his fin man.

Hi! Let me first say that I've been following your blog for a few months, and I LOVE your finfolk au! I'm super excited to see what you have planned out for your fic!
I really love what art you created for finfolk!Julie's mortal disguise. She's soooo pretty! Will there be a possibility of seeing the disguises for the other neighbors at some point? (No rush or obligation, obviously. Just wondering)
Tysm for the kind words! I'm glad you've stuck around despite me not posting recently. Thankfully I finished the semester with a good GPA and grades. Not so thankfully though, my next semester starts next week...but that's what I get for choosing to do a summer semester x-x
-
As for the disguises, I'm so glad you like Julie's. Of course, she can look like anyone, but that one is her favorite (so pink!). In fact, ALL of them have disguises really, shapeshifting is kind of in their nature.
Tumblr media
Here are some fun doodles of potential disguises. The only one I will tell you about is the guy with a hat marked with F.F, that's Frank. The others could be anyone though...Good luck guessing who is who! Hint: Not all of them share similar looks to their original form. The bird and wolf are NOT Poppy and Barnaby :)
The others have disguises as well, many of them actually, including Home of course, although Home isn't as creative with his. He's always switching between a lion, a griffin, and a manticore. (He really likes big cats.) Frank rarely uses one though, shapeshifting is still a bit of a challenge to him. But, when Frank does shift, he prefers a version of his old self, a librarian, a detective, or a police officer. He can be surprisingly commanding as the police when he needs to be. So surprising some of the neighbors couldn't even tell it was Frank.

I’m curious what the others finfolk forms look like, what kinda tails and colors do they have, markers, etc. I’m so excited for the au!
I am not feeling well enough to really draw so I will just give descriptions instead! I'll be sure to draw everyone at some point though, but if you want me to ping (or just message) you or anyone else just private message me or let me know in replies.
__________________________________________________________
For all neighbors minus Home:
Each and every neighbor will grow claws, teeth, increased height, increased strength, and webbed hands when fully transformed. As for clothes, they're designed to change with their form.
Wally Darling
Wally may still be the shortest of the neighbors, but he's still quite tall when compared to normal puppets (most finmen are huge regardless). When he comes off as a normal-looking puppet, he wears a blue glass colored (blue glass is a color, it is my favorite color-) clothing, or sometimes loose-fitting beach clothes if he feels like relaxing. He often keeps a red shell pendant around his neck area and a black single earring on his right ear.
When Wally is a finman however, his yellow felt turns to scales that range from yellows, purples, teals, and different shades of blue. His ears become thick and finned, each end going up into a small S-shaped curl. Underneath the clothing, his body is covered in soft red swirling and spiraling markings, something you can he on his cheeks. Unlike the finwomen, finmen don't turn into mermaids/mermen, so he does not have a tail at all and he instead grows various fins on his body, all very colorful. Oh, and don't forget the fangs and claws...those are pretty sharp.
Barnaby
Barnaby is one of the taller finmen, but not the tallest. You can usually find him wearing shorts, sandals, shell necklaces, and a sunhat. It's just so darn hot sometimes so don't expect to see him in a shirt really. If anything he'll probably be under a shady area or relaxing in some cool water.
While he does already have teeth and claws, they are pretty dull until he transforms, having his teeth become more shark-like and claws much sharper than anyone else's. However, Barnaby is the only one here who does not grow scales at all. Instead that blue felt skin will turn into something far more smoother and paler in color almost becoming grey but not quite grey. The spots all over his body stay of course, but they become darker and more larger, creating marbled patterns. Not only is Barnaby the only one without scales, but he is the only one to grow a tail and keep his legs. The once small fluffy tail turns into a strong shark-like one, being capable of causing someone a concussion or head trauma if he really swung hard enough with it.
Sometimes everyone suspects he isn't a finman, but even if Barnaby wasn't, everyone would still love the big guy.
Howdy
Being a fisherman has its perks. One being that it tends to be a good workout, another being that you can get all kinds of stuff from the ocean. That being said, Howdy is a giant when compared to the others. In his normal form, the fisherman has medium long blue hair that's often slicked back or just braided all under his hat. You'd think that running a shop and being a fisherman would leave little time for this man to tidy up his clothes but you'd be wrong. Everything remains completely clean no matter the weather, it's almost scary. Even the shell pendant he wears on his apron is constantly shining.
Obviously having double the legs and arms leaves him with double the amount of claws to tear someone up with. As a finman, Howdy's height becomes outright terrifying to anyone he meets. Forget the scary claws and fangs, his height alone is enough to scare the fear of God into anyone.
The colors of Howdy's scales match himself much like it does with Wally and the others. Green scales fade from blues to teals and tiger-like stripes decorate his body, leaving oval spirals on his cheeks.
Eddie
Probably the friendliest captain out there with the coat to match! Often times Eddie will be wearing his white captain's coat and hat, having a shell pendant pinned to the black suit he wears under. He always stays tidy, keeping his red hair slicked back under his hat.
As a finman, Eddie will also grow in size. This is when his usual friendly appearance turns more scary to some. Being large and having a giant captain's coat squaring your shoulders can look intimidating. Along that, Eddie's hair tends to get more rougher and slightly wavy, so he lets it down every once in a while.
Frank
Frank is the only one that wasn't a finman before moving in on the island, having been a normal puppet before. He still prefers to remain as his normal puppet self on most days unless it's rainy or stormy. Usually he is wearing vests, casual clothes, and colors that are muted in color, preferring to keep the shell pendant he has on a butterfly bow, keeping the bow as a reminder of his old life.
In the rare times that he decides to be more fin-like, the only things about Frank that change is that he grows teal, purple, and grey scales, square-ish finned ears, squared swirls, and fangs.
Julie
Being a finwoman (or mermaid) has it's perks.
Julie will on most days wear light colored fluffy dresses with thick high sandals, a large sunhat, and a shell necklace to match. If not a dress, then she'd be happy to wear anything good for the beach so she can go ahead and jump in the water at any time.
As a mermaid, Julie transforms her legs into a long and strong tail, being just as strong as finmen (no really, you do NOT want to get hit with her tail). Her scales often reflect the dresses she usually wears, which are deep shades of coral reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows. The fins at the end of her tail are wide and flowing, sometimes she'll even wrap herself up in them for fun.
The ears differ slightly from the others as they appear more softer and fluffy with light pink swirls and sparkles dusting her face.
Sally
Sally is sometimes nicknamed Sally Scarlet for several reasons. One reason being the clothing she wears. Everything is always extravagant or just screams passion, having everything in shades of red and black.
Sally is the only one who is almost always in her mermaid form. No really, she even has a part of her house with an indoor pool that leads to the ocean because she just doesn't feel like getting out of the water yet. Her tail is much longer than Julie's but more slim and much sharper, some scales being so sharp they can be flung or used as throwing knives. The weapon tail is made up of blood red scales with speckled black and gold scales scattered on her body.
She often wears a golden crown around her already existing crown (she's a star so duh) and dark makeup to compliment her scales. Of course, she painted her claws black to match. Dramatic...
Poppy
Poppy is probably the most colorful out of the neighbors, having literally every color in the rainbow on her. You can usually find her outside gardening with Julie, wearing nothing (because she has feathers) or just wearing a light colored shawl with a matching sunhat. She often carries her shell or clips it to a shawl.
However, Poppy is a little bit different like Barnaby when it comes to her original form, but no one questions it really. Like the other mermaids, Poppy will form a tail consisting of the rainbow, but the rest of her body becomes much larger and longer, resembling something closer to a serpent. The feathers soon turn into long spikes and sharp scales that could easily cut through steel. Her wings become giant fins and her beak grows a sharp curved end. She doesn't transform ever much like Frank due to her scaring herself and others sometimes.
Home
It is known that Home has a physical body, but no one other than Wally has talked to him. The only time anyone ever gets a glimpse of Home is when a shell is being given to a neighbor. Large clawed and black scaly hands reach out from the dark whirlpool to take the shell and imbued his magic into it before it's given back.
Sorry for any spelling errors, I'm a bit tired right now.

So question, are the crew even violent towards each other in the finfolk Au. And is Eddie ever angry and hurtful towards Frank (since it's said both female and male finfolk are usually violent towards their spouse)?
Hmm, Normally I would say yes if this were any other fandom since it'd be in character based on finfolk lore. But since these characters are from Welcome Home, I wanted to keep some fluffiness for them, so no. But they are hurtful and aggressive towards outsiders and normal puppets. Unless Home (or Wally) specifically invited someone onto the island, they're gonna sink ships and get rid of anyone that gets too close. Which sounds extreme but I'm going based on finfolk lore.
They are however nice and friendly towards anyone on the island that lives there. (So, only each other)
Maybe in the beginning Eddie would have been hurtful towards Frank. Frank is the only one that was a normal puppet before (human equivalent in this AU). So naturally he would have been pretty upset that Frank was getting too close. But over time he grew a soft spot for him and convinced Wally to let him in. (Or maybe Frank was invited in the first place.)

Does any of the others have jobs or own any establishments on the main land beside Howdy and Poppy? We know Poppy owns a cafe, and Howdy owns a seafood restaurant, so I’m curious about the others.
Hmmm, well, I guess it depends how much free time they have or what kind of hobbies each character is into.
Frank may be a marine biologist, but he stays back on the islands and does not interact with the outside world much (maybe he visits the mainland once a month).
Wally on the other hand is a hard working artist, sometimes his own art will make it into museums (though no one really knows anything about the artist, Wally is perfectly fine with interviews). While Wally would think of shapeshifting into a new identity just for visiting the mainland, he doesn't visit enough to really need one unlike Poppy, Howdy, Julie, and Barnaby.
Being an art teacher is something that will get him to stick around for a longer amount of time though. He doesn't teach art in middle schools or high schools though, too many times rude students test his patience. No, he prefers to see the joy and innocence of children learning to express themselves better in daycares or kindergarten. That or He prefers hard working college students looking for further improvement. Basically he has no patience for rowdy teens.
The same can be said with Eddie when it comes to alter identities on mainland. He's just a kind guy that does oversea deliveries as far as the public knows. No disguise needed as he's mostly out in open ocean.
Julie enjoys hair styling quite a lot. I mean, have you seen how great her hair is? She definitely prides herself in her work. None can match Julie's way of styling, it's so unique and stands out from the rest. Every once in a while she participates in fashion, making beautiful dresses and clothing with some of the best designers.
You know the whole surfer dude or beach bro stereotype? That's the embodiment of Barnaby's whole persona on mainland (and at Home). The big guy is always on social media taking pics and flexing. He doesn't have a full-time job like the others but he more or less has a job like a personal trainer at gyms when he's not at Home.
Sally is absolutely not allowed on mainland or any land without someone to keep an eye on her. True to the darker side of finfolk nature, Sally often thirsts for bloodshed. There's been a string of murders recently? Each victim has signs of a non-puppet creature being the culprit, long slashes and claw marks are all over the walls and body. Someone went missing? Well, witnesses say there was a tall figure at the docks before the victim disappeared. Whether it be death by claws, fangs, or drowning, Sally can not help herself. Her favorite method? Singing. Much like sirens, she can lure victims in to their death through singing. It often gets a local siren or mermaid accused of the murder though.
Although, if she's somewhere in a small town or city where not much attention will be drawn, the others will let her go ham. No need to worry if the locals aren't able to get proper help to start investigations.
Home doesn't go to the mainland...unless he has a reason to. Once, he felt a calling but found nothing. He hasn't left the islands since.

You mentioned in your finfolk au that Frank is human, does that mean he's kinda weaker than the rest. More importantly, can he be commanded by the others?
If so, has anyone done so and for what reason?
Being transformed into one of them definitely has a different outcome for each person that goes through the transformation. But one thing that always stays consistent is that the newly transformed are often weaker than the average finman/woman. Kind of think of it as like a false finfolk.
Frank may be one of them physically, but in terms of actually using magic he has nothing. He is just physically a finman. He could use magic if it is borrowed though, sometimes it's borrowed through artifacts or special items that have a another finman's magic fused into it (like a battery). Making such items is a bit of a hobby for most.
Being a finman will of course make Frank immune to the commands of other finmen/women. But this doesn't protect him from the commands of Home. He may reside deep under the islands but Home's reach goes far and strong.
If it hadn't been for Eddie Frank probably wouldn't even be alive. Home always makes sure his islands are well protected.

Since they’re saltwater does any other water like fresh water or chlorine hurt them? Or does it just irritate/annoy them a lot? (For the finfolk AU)
Sorry this is late, I have some REALLY LATE asks to get to (some all the way back in April x-x). There's just a lot in the inbox, 167 or so. But I'm making my way down to every ask that I can answer!
The answer would be an unsurprising no. While finfolk do reside and come from the ocean itself, they are not affected by things like chlorine or fresh water. They aren't really fish, just their own thing. Completely different from mermaids, sirens, etc.
I think the only ones that would need to worry about water really would be Howdy and Frank. Howdy because, you know, he's pretty poisonous and his skin often secretes neurotoxins, he can't just go swimming around people in a pool. Frank is just afraid of deep water really. He was not born a finman and he's still getting used to being able to just swim around carefree while his old instincts tell him to get out of the water. Imagine if you suddenly gained the ability to breath underwater, it would be very new and disorienting. Luckily Eddie or Julie is always around to reassure him it's alright.
