I was intrigued by the idea that children’s literature, a genre seemingly dismissed by many, could so keenly reflect a shift in cultural values. In many ways, children’s literature serves as our initial foray into the independent gathering of information. Until we learn how to read, we rely on our observations, and the point-of-view of others when confronted with a question. With literacy, we are granted the opportunity to discover for ourselves. While our first books may not support philosophical wonderings, their perspective guides us into the world of empathy and knowledge. That being said, many early readers tend to pay more attention to the pictures in a book than the words themselves. In their pre-literacy years, images are certainly their only gateway into the narrative. However, even for young readers those illustrations act as a guide through the story. It was this idea that helped me narrow my interest from the evolution of Victorian children’s literature, to more specifically Alice in Wonderland. Drawn by the nonsensical nature of Alice, I wanted to further explore the creative relationship between Tenniel and Carroll that lead to the creation of a culturally iconic classic. While it was not difficult finding texts about the illustrations of Alice, it was challenging narrowing my search results. It was easy to find sources about Alice’s Adventure’s in Wonderland, and the narrative value of its illustrations through the USF Library database. However, it was difficult finding scholarly articles or books about Tenniel online. By locating a book review of a biography about Tenniel, I was able to find a print version of the biography itself in USF’s circulating collections. I was also surprised when I had difficulties finding texts discussing the general characteristics of Victorian children’s literature. Similarly to Tenniel’s biography, I used USF’s library database to find a book review, which led me to the book Evolution and Imagination in Victorian Children’s Literature. Although the book was not in USF’s library system, I was able to find excerpts of the book online.

hey! I also decided recently to stop the lifelong battle with my belly , though I never really fought back :D so , basically, you have my support and it's so good to see you're not the only one struggling :)

Today I chose to search for the positives and ignore the negatives as much as possible.

I'm laying here in my king size bed, cats at my side, and looking on at the palace I am building here with my guys. For this moment I am happy.

Slowly I am building what I have always wanted to be a part of, loyal family. Sure, we do some shady shit sometimes.... We are all a little damaged, a few frayed edges, but together we kick some ass. We all look out for each other, no questions asked. It honestly blows my mind that these two found me at the worst I have ever been and accepted me with open arms. No judgement, no passive aggressive coments, no acccusations. I was drinking myself to sleep almost everynight... They made sure to give me water and made sure I was safely to bed. They let me have my binge while keeping me safe. When the depression was too bad I didn't get out of bed they made sure to bring me snacks and check in on me - not a single complaint about me being in bed all day. Whenever any of their friends are alone with me they tell me how much these two talk me up and how amazing they think I am. C honestly thinks the world revolves around me, I swear. I make sure they are fed and I occassionally clean up around the house... I scold them like children at times when they deserve it... And they still think I'm the best thing to ever come into their lives. This kind of respect and appreciation.... And genuine family like situation is so foreign but so amazing. Them and all of their friends treat me like some sort of favored royalty... Like I'm something special to them. I still feel so alien in this new life, but my old life is dead and gone... I need to make myself at home.

My boyfriend is pretty amazing...

My depression has had me pretty messed up the last couple days. He hasn't been upset with me or made me feel bad for it. Instead he picked up the house, gave me forehead kisses, and told me how amazing he thinks I am and how much he loves me. He even surprised me tonight at work with a redbull.

You don't realize how badly you were treated in the past until you have someone who treats you better.

And now it is the only place that feels like home and I'm no longer welcome there.

I passed up sex that I knew from experience would be great becsuse I am in love with a man who would rather see me in pain.

He is fantasizing about a friend with benefits or picking up a rando at a bar and I can't even take my opportunity at loveless sex.

I fucking wish I could move on so quickly, but I guess that shows which one of us was really in love.

I don't know how I got here or how to get out.

I'm so fucking overwhelmed I get stuck. And the guilt... how do I walk away when this is my fault? I can't bring myself to do it even though I should. I didn't belong here in the first place. I didn't want to be here. And now I feel trapped here by guilt which makes me want out even more.

Fuck.

Sorry, crazy vague I know but I'm still wrapping my head around it all too.
