The first case that Kazuma Asogi had taken in London had been monumental. Not to mention far over his head — very much by design of the man who had appointed a fledging prosecutor whose interests lay so dangerously close to the Reaper trial. And there was no doubt that Asogi was suffering for it now.

Apprenticing under the former Reaper of the Bailey had its benefits, certainly. The courtroom was hardly ever dull, what with the dramatics that Barok employed to capture the attention of judges and difficult-to-sway jurors.

Drowning in legalese, however, required little imagination and provided even less entertainment. And yet it was a part of the prosecutor's profession as much as the time they spent in the Old Bailey, and thus Barok pushed it mercilessly as he did every aspect of their duties. To grow into the role of the prosecutor Asogi intended to be, there was hardly room to moan and to drag his feet. And he took it well for the most part, poring over the paperwork, writing and reading and reviewing case reports cover to cover, and filing every report demanded of him, no matter how trifling Barok's request.

Barok's commendations were few and far between. Not for lack of performance on Asogi's part; it was merely the manner in which Barok had been taught when he, too, had been young and training in this merciless occupation. But the meagre praises were more than he would have offered most, should they find themselves under his tutelage. ( There had been none, until Lord Stronghart had handed Barok's first and only disciple to him, leaving him little choice but to take a nameless man under his wing. ) But, still, in the heart of Asogi's apparent flawlessness lay the very evidence of his limitations.

Much like his father, Kazuma was a man of action... but this Asogi was younger, less practised in his work and much less measured in his emotion. As much as Kazuma was driven by his ambition, he proved at times helpless to its whims — unable to direct it, taken over by it.

Barok felt wearier than ever as he watched Asogi toil away at the stack of papers on his desk. His own attention was fading fast, and his quill had slowed to a feeble scratch for over the better part of an hour. Asogi, meanwhile, had shown no signs of slowing. He was near machine-like in his determination.

Still too young, still too strong-headed, to recognise that his persistence and his perseverance could be his own failing.

One must know when to rest. Barok, too, had work to put into learning his limit. When he had worked alone, there had been less need for it; he alone suffered the consequences of his at-times unreasonable doggedness.

Now, he was not alone. As much as he and Asogi struggled verbally to come to terms with it, they had to consider one another — to do more than than simply coexist. To work with one another.

Perhaps it was guilt of years past, too, that indebted Barok to the task of keeping after Asogi's health. ( Guilt that held him to the oath Genshin could not himself keep, when Barok had sent him to the gallows: to look after his beloved son. ) Nonetheless, this was his apprentice; the man was under Barok's care, whether or not he liked it.

one thing i love about tumblr is the queue. i have it so five reblogs a day will go up cone rain or shine.

but the queue has a max size of 1_000, so that could mean 200 days between me seeing a post and reblogging it. 200 days. even at ~30 days ive forgotten most of the posts and theyre fresh to me when i see them on my dash.

200 days. thats a pretty long time.

whenever i see current political posts i fast reblog and queue. sure pretty much no one sees my posts but i see them! i get to be reminded of important events the collective consciousness stops talking about them!

it was a bad habit and he knew it, but as he hurriedly made his way down the hall, a lunch box toted in one hand, the other was the culprit that patting his pants pocket for reassurance that his pack of cigarettes were where they should be. this week had been particularly intense; full of back-to-back meetings with this break away for lunch being the first time he was free all week long. he would be damned if that didn't mean walking to sit on a public bench and have a quick smoke break before eating. typically he wouldn't bother with bringing the little vice to work with him, but he had been on edge this week. too many administrative mishaps occurring the last few weeks, causing back-up and high stress in his office. spacing himself away from the city hall building reasonably well, making sure he was out of distance from their tobacco-free policy, he made a grab for the soft box in his pocket.

taking no time before one was in his mouth and lit, he gave a long drag. sighing almost happily as he exhaled for what felt to be the first time in days. "man, I really gotta give this up," he complained to himself, knowing full and well how bad it was for his health. not caring enough to make him put it out just yet, he paced the area of the bench for what he thought was just a few moments, getting in a few extra steps while burning off some lingering pressure from work. eventually, when he was flicking out the last of the cigarette, he glanced to the bench, almost jumping as he noticed it was occupied now. how long had he been checked out for? how long had they been sitting there? "i'm sorry, how rude of me, i didn't actually realize anyone else was over here." with a small breath he moved to sit on the opposite side of the bench, not thinking anything of it as he dug into his lunch box. "what brings you downtown today?" he questioned, giving a side-glace to his company.

He fell from the sky with uncharacteristically little grace, failing around before nearly landing on his face, barely managing to land into a roll to mitigate the impact.

"Phew... that... sucked."

He had no idea where he was. One minute he was fighting a bunch of thugs trying to rob a ShidoCorp truck, and then the next everything went all... screwy.

Did they break something that did this to him? Or was he brought here by something else?

Eh, he supposed it didn't matter.

"Where the shock are we..?"

He took in his surroundings. He was on a rooftop in some sort of city. Neon lights lit up the night sky, both from the taillights of cars zooming through the air in front of him, and massive holographic advertisements taking up large chunks of sky scrapers.

"AM I IN THE FUTURE!?!?"

Ohhhhh, he was geeking out BIG TIME right now.

His home world had also seen a bunch of anomalies appear but it was quite rare for one to be a Spider. Usually, it was just the villains that got displaced and they came to them but this time it was the other way around.

Still, the sensors they had in place picked up this kids appearance almost immediately and, seeing as this was his turf, Miguel was handling this one himself. He didn't need backup, as much as Lyla said he would, these were his streets.

"Hey, kid, you're a long way from home don't you think?" He asked as he pulled himself up and over the roof landing just behind the other but not too close.

He'd heard what sounded like Japanese on his way up so he had Lyla quickly add a translation routine to his masks systems so he's able to understand the kid... he just hoped he understood English. / @webbedphantom

Hey All,

I've been away for some time, as we've been working really hard on something quite exciting:

let me present to you the world's first ever global ocean drainage basin map that shows all permanent and temporary water flows on the planet.

This is quite big news, as far as I know this has never been done before. There are hundreds of hours of work in it (with the data + manual work as well) and it's quite a relief that they are all finished now.

But what is an ocean drainage basin map, I hear most of you asking? A couple of years ago I tried to find a map that shows which ocean does each of the world's rivers end up in. I was a bit surprised to see there is no map like that, so I just decided I'll make it myself - as usual :) Well, after realizing all the technical difficulties, I wasn't so surprised any more that it didn't exist. So yeah, it was quite a challenge but I am very happy with the result.

In addition to the global map I've created a set of 43 maps for different countries, states and continents, four versions for each: maps with white and black background, and a version for both with coloured oceans (aka polygons). Here's the global map with polygons:

I know from experience that maps can be great conversation starters, and I aim to make maps that are visually striking and can effectively deliver a message. With these ocean drainage basin maps the most important part was to make them easily understandable, so after you have seen one, the others all become effortless to interpret as well. Let me know how I did, I really appreciate any and all kinds of feedback.

Here are a few more from the set, I hope you too learn something new from them. I certainly did, and I am a geographer.

The greatest surprise with Europe is that its biggest river is all grey, as the Volga flows into the Caspian sea, therefore its basin counts as endorheic.

An endorheic basin is one which never reaches the ocean, mostly because it dries out in desert areas or ends up in lakes with no outflow. The biggest endorheic basin is the Caspian’s, but the area of the Great Basin in the US is also a good example of endorheic basins.

I love how the green of the Atlantic Ocean tangles together in the middle.

No, the dividing line is not at Cape Town, unfortunately.

I know these two colours weren’t the best choice for colourblind people and I sincerely apologize for that. I’ve been planning to make colourblind-friendly versions of my maps for ages now – still not sure when I get there, but I want you to know that it’s just moved up on my todo-list. A lot further up.

Minnesota is quite crazy with all that blue, right? Some other US states that are equally mind-blowing: North Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming. You can check them all out here.

Yes, most of the Peruvian waters drain into the Atlantic Ocean. Here are the maps of Peru, if you want to take a closer look.

Asia is amazingly colourful with lots of endorheic basins in the middle areas: deserts, the Himalayas and the Caspian sea are to blame. Also note how the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra are divided.

I mentioned earlier that I also made white versions of all maps. Here’s Australia with its vast deserts. If you're wondering about the weird lines in the middle: that’s the Simpson desert with its famous parallel sand dunes.

North America with white background and colourful oceans looks pretty neat, I think.

Finally, I made the drainage basin maps of the individual oceans: The Atlantic, the Arctic, the Indian and the Pacific. The Arctic is my favourite one.

I really hope you like my new maps, and that they will become as popular as my river basin maps. Those have already helped dozens of environmental NGOs to illustrate their important messages all around the world. It would be nice if these maps too could find their purpose.
