Farmer's Market

Summary: Ramiel goes to a farmer's market and meets a Chaos Marine and a human that he helps

Miss Angela had once told him that her favorite flavor of ice cream was cherry and vanilla flavored. Ramiel headed out of the Reclusiam a few hours, finished with his duties and tasks for the day and he signed out of the base.

After checking to see what the communal kitchens had available to cook with as he researched on what Ancient Terra calls ‘the internet’ to find a good recipe for Ice Cream, heavy cream, whole milk sugar cane, vanilla, salt, and whatever additional flavors you wanted.

As well as cooking and preparation times, as well as cooling times. As well as suggestions for various items that would make creating the ice cream easier or faster. The base has all of the ingredients except for the cherries on base, and in amounts of each ingredient that him taking enough of the ingredients to make the ice cream wouldn’t be all that noticeable, especially since he’ll be limited on how much ice cream he can make due to how many cherries he’s able to procure.

The trickiest part will be having it cooled down and frozen without any of his brothers or cousins getting curious about whatever it is that he’s making and eating it before it’s ready. 

He grabs his stipend, he’s slowly been accumulating an allowance, not that he really needed to use it, unless he specifically wanted to buy something from the townsfolk. Ramiel had heard that there was going to be a farmer’s market today and tomorrow, and he’s heard that the fresh produce at those farmer’s markets are a lot better in quality, quantity and price than at the local grocery stores. 

Ramiel signs out of the base and heads to the farmer’s market, luckily, everyone has set up their stalls, and there are a few potential customers wandering the stalls, he’s heard that this particular farmer’s market is Astartes-friendly and he has also heard, and been warned, that there are some Chaos Astartes that frequent this farmer’s market, to buy or to help their Bonded Humans shop or keep would be thieves away. 

He scans the market, the stalls contain a myriad of different things, from finished goods to bits and bobs to make things. Fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, nuts and all sorts of other wonderful things. 

Ramiel heads to one of the stalls that has some particularly promising looking fruit when he hears a low growl. An Astarte growls and he looks around and spots, he spots red and brass colored armor, lots of spikes and he sees a chest mouth with bared teeth. He sees a long tail. A Chaos Marine- not only that, but a Chaos World Eater- he spots that the other still has the Nails in his head.

He’d learned recently that there was a process on Ancient Terra for the safe, mostly safe, removal of the Butcher’s Nails. Ramiel hears the Chaos Marine rumble and he has to look up to see the face of the World Eater.

“You hungry, Little one?” Joth asks, tilting his head as he eyes the Scout. He offers an Astartes sized prepackaged snack.

Ramiel blinks at him and cautiously grabs the snack, “Yes, I could eat, Sir.”

Joth shuffles closer and the youngster grabs the snack and he snuffles him. He smells of stress, sadness, and pain. Joth rumbles again and Ramiel tenses up a little bit, he is healed, mostly from what Petras had done to him, physically at least, but he was… wary of First Borns, more than he had been before… before he had died.

Ramiel makes the mistake of blinking and can’t stop the way he yelps and tries to wriggle when Joth scruffs the Scout and carries him over to his human. His human says, “J-joth, who’ve you got there buddy?”

“A baby Astarte!” Joth says proudly as he ducks into the back of the stall and shows off Ramiel, “He smells of pain, sadness and stress. He needs cuddles and food.”

With the hand that is not scruffing Ramiel, he gets a friendly hair ruffle. Ramiel is. Perplexed and gives a half pleading look to the human for help. “I am… not a neophyte. I am Scout.”

“Still baby,” Joth says, before giving Ramiel an egg, “here. Eat.”

“Uhm. Not a baby” Ramiel blinks up at him incredulously, but he takes the egg and says “Thank… you…?”

He wonders if this was a fraction of what Cedric had to deal with when he first met Hura, or if this was just his luck to get a weirdo of a Chaos marine semi-kidnapping him. He gently takes the egg and grabs out some of the baseline human money.

“Uhm I was wanting to buy several pounds of your dark sweet cherries,” Ramiel said, “And I’ll buy this egg too, I guess?”

“The eggs on the house,” you say with a hearty laugh. You look the ‘baby astarte’ over, he does look younger than Joth. You have helped plenty of Chaos Marines in the Fostering Program.

He has an air of youth about him- something in his eyes- and the lack of studs at his temple give it away. You wonder if he’s Loyal, Renegade, or Chaos. He’s wearing casual clothing, with black jeans and a white shirt, sensible walking shoes.

You give him the price for the several pounds of cherries and he looks down at the baseline human currency with a slightly lost expression on his face. Joth starts talking to the younger space marine, as he realizes that the cute baby Scout who needs to eat, helps understand how to use and count baseline human money. 

Which can be very confusing if you didn’t  have to use something like this and just shoved a wad of paper that was somehow supposed to be used to pay for things. Ramiel has a concentrated frown on his face as he memorizes what the different denominations mean and after muttering to himself he counts out the proper bills, and then adds in a few extra.

“Thank you,” Ramiel says to the older cousin.

Joth gives him a head pat and a soft rumbling sound saying, “You are welcome. Eat regularly, then you will be a big strong Scout one day.”

“Uh… here?” Ramiel says almost timidly to you, handing you the money.

You nod and take the money, able to quickly count that he’d given you slightly more and try to give him the change back and he shakes his head, “For tip? Thanks for patience and help… Both of you.”

“You’re welcome!” You say with a grin, it was always interesting to see how Joth would interact with other Space Marines.

The younger Space marine wriggles and Joth puts him down with a rumbling sigh and pats the younger and smaller space marine's head one more time. He has popped the egg in his mouth and eats it whole, while he careful holds the several pounds of cherries as he heads off to somewhere else.

chiyoko is a filthy memer and a dad-joke lover, and getting to know her can feel like pulling teeth at times. if you aren't in it for the long haul, that is unfortunate because she's an absolute gem!

general obstacles & overcoming them

having been bullied as a kid, chiyo does not trust very easily, nor does she allow most people to know the real her. she often puts on a mask, changing her personality to suit whoever she's currently dealing with. this makes getting to know her difficult; she will do everything in her power to keep a safe distance from you while still keeping you comfortable and thus fooling you into thinking you know her. say you do get to know her a little, enough to call each other friends. while chiyo will share her interests more freely with you, she will still hesitate to open up. she will keep her feelings to herself rather than be vulnerable with you. chiyo fears being a burden. she would rather suffer alone than push someone away because she was too much to handle yet not enough to try. the solutions to all of these obstacles are consistency and persistence. insist on getting to know her better, push her to open up -- even if she pushes back. and do it every time she tries to shy away. don't let her pull away from you. her insecurities might be loud, but if you keep chipping away at them, they'll go away eventually, and your friendship will be much stronger because of your efforts. in the end, chiyo just needs to see and believe that you care enough to put up with any " trouble " she might cause you.

most effective love languages

while chiyo herself shows she cares through physical touch and acts of service most commonly, words of affirmation and a mixture of quality time/acts of service are most effective when trying to communicate your feelings to chiyo. putting in the time and effort mean the world to her as she's had people in the past who would not do that for her. she believes in " actions speak louder than words. " yet words can impact chiyo greatly if you tell her the right ones. you can tell she's feeling down, that something's off? tell her you're there for her and make it clear that you want to be there. you think to yourself that you're grateful to know her? tell her. say the things most people hesitate to admit aloud, and i promise it will pay off.

romantic obstacles

so you befriended chiyo, and now you're thinking about dating her. well, my friend, get ready for some more work! ever since dating her best friend in high school and ruining their friendship when she couldn't love him back, chiyo has a fear of dating. she would much rather keep her friend and never experience romance than have a significant other who she eventually loses. that being said, chiyo will not act upon her feelings without an outside pressure that forces her to confess or without a great deal of build up. if you want to get anywhere, you either need to be patient or make the first move yourself. don't be ambiguous whatsoever because chiyo will absolutely overthink and become an anxious mess. if any sort of romantic confrontation occurs that does not result in a relationship, please expect chiyo to avoid you for a while until you either confront her or she gets her feelings sorted. for reference, chiyo is demiromantic and bisexual.

polyship obstacles

these obstacles will be pretty much the same as the above, though with a little more insecurity sprinkled in. chiyo is open to the idea of poly relationships as she's seen them in media, and they look appealing, comfortable. yet she knows herself and worries that she may be too insecure to ever be in a poly relationship. if you want to convince her to be in one with you and your partners, it is vital that everyone puts in the work that i have already described, and everyone has an open and honest conversation with her. that is the only way to dismiss any fears she might have.

Kyu does, because Asuka is hesitant to do anything that might alter the person who Kyu becomes. Unfortunately Kyu decides to do this in front of Mari, who promptly shouts that they’re in a relationship to the entire ship, because come on Asuka you’re not fooling anyone.

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background

One does not have a phone after Third Impact. Asuka totally has a picture of Kyu taped to Unit-02′s cockpit though.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror

Neither, Asuka doesn’t think of it and if Kyu wants to say anything she just walks into the shower and tells Asuka. 

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

One does not simply buy gifts after Third Impact, but Asuka ends up stealing cookies from the kitchen and framing Mari to give them to Kyu. 

Who initiated the first kiss

Kyu did. It was gay. It was super gay. 

Who kisses the other awake in the morning

Asuka. This comes with a minor dose of “let me tickle you awake if kissing doesn’t work” and has led to a few jokes about it from Mari. 

Who starts tickle fights

Kyu tried once. Asuka isn’t really that ticklish. It became very one-sided very quickly.

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower

Kyu tends to leave the door open to air out the steam so Asuka doesn’t really need to ask, but the first time this happened Asuka ended up shouting for five minutes about how Kyu shouldn’t leave the door open like that, doesn’t she have any concept of privacy, and Kyu don’t pull me into the shower my clothes are still on

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch

Kyu can’t really go anywhere without being supervised by Asuka, but on the days of sync tests she does persuade Sakura to sneak food out of the cafeteria so she can give it to Asuka. 

Who was nervous and shy on the first date

Kyu was a blushing, stuttering wreck. Fourth Impact? Sure. Identity crisis? Minor panic. First date with Asuka? RED ALERT, ABORT, RUN AWAY.

Who kills/takes out the spiders

There are no spiders on the Wunder. I instead present for your amusement the concept of Kyu burrowing under Asuka’s warm, freshly-done laundry and refusing to come out until it cools down.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

There’s no alcohol on the Wunder, too. I mean, who would get drunk on a flying ship? I’d also like to point out that Asuka leaves her cat hat with Kyu when she goes out on missions, both so Kyu has a reminder of her and because it’s a promise she’ll come back to claim it.
