will forever be upset the middle aged celebrities i know and love aren’t young twenty-somethings on instagram and social media, because i would love to guess at what their feed would look like!
imagine paget brewster’s instagram when she was like twenty

i say this because i have recently followed liana liberato (aka jade in evolution) and she is so cool and she has a photography account and follows glen powell and taylor swift, and she also obviously has all the crim people and i just wonder what pag thinks about her instagram and how they would be similar etc

Criminal Minds Point Key
My mummy dearest and I are big fans of criminal minds. Today we decided to rewatch the show and use our beautiful autistic nerd powers to create a somewhat logical point system to determine what are actually the best and worst episodes.
Every episode starts with 100 points and either gains or loses points according to the following point key:
Jack appears physically in person. (+10)
Jack is heard or shown not in person. (+5)
Henry appears physically in person. (+9)
Henry is heard or shown not in person. (+4)
Victim actually does something smart or plays the long game. (+15)
Hotch/Morgan/Rossi isn't an asshole at all during the episode while being in it. (+20)
Reid’s interesting fun facts. (+5)
Awwwwwwwww that's so sweeeet (+5)
Okay, that actually made me laugh. (+5)
Hotch shows emotion. (+10)
Oooh they smexy. (+5)
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. (+2)
Actually wholesome. (+2)
*Jazz hands* (+10)
Someone picks up evidence using a glove without even wearing the damn glove in the first place. (-20)
There is a very obvious and easy way to do something that helps with the case but no one even mentions it. (-20)
“Why did you shoot him??? What was the point of that???” (-10)
“How in god's name are they still alive??? Are you immortal???” (-5)
Someone in the team going completely rogue. (-5)
Ruining an entire relationship with a single line of dialog. (-15)
✨Sexism✨ (-10)
✨Racism✨ (-10)
✨Homophobia✨ (-10)
That. Isnt. Possible. (-10)
A cognitive interview turning into blatant hypnosis. (-10)
Someone being immune from legal consequences. (-15)
Being insensitive to victims and/or survivors. (-15)
I understand… but still, WHERE IS YOUR WARRANT (-5)
Someone says something blatantly obvious. (-2)
This doesn't concern you! (-2)
What is that outfit??? (-1)

ASK EDDIE returns Thursday, October 5, 7:00 PM PT to our Facebook page, @filmnoirfoundation.
FNF prez Eddie Muller responds to film noir fan questions fielded by the Foundation's Director of Communications Anne Hockens. In this episode, we discuss Lightning Strikes Twice, Woman on the Run, Darwyn Cooke’s comic book adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker novels, which classic film noirs should be remade, Eddie’s novel The Distance and more. We wind up the show with a discussion of the notorious psychological thriller Who Killed Teddy Bear. On the cat front, we get a rare visit from Tizzy the traveling cat.
Want your question answered in a future episode? We solicit questions from our email subscribers in our monthly newsletters. Sign up for free at filmnoirfoundation.org
Everyone who signs up on our email list and contributes $20 or more to the Film Noir Foundation receives the digital version of NOIR CITY Magazine for a year.
Can’t join us on Thursday? No problem! A recording will be up on our YouTube channel, @NoirCity, on Friday, October 6.
Note: Eddie will not be able to answer questions posted during the livestream nor ones left on our social media accounts
The dialogue of LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE was nuanced, subtle, wicked, I wonder what male author has also sustained that continuous level of repartee? At the amusement park towards the finale of WOMAN ON THE RUN, the life-size Laughing Sally made me think it was San Francisco - am I mistaken?
Sara
Any news of a restoration/screening/Noir Alley showing/home release for CANON CITY (1948)? Morse
Eddie has expressed his affinity for comic books in the past, have either of you read the Darwyn Cooke adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker books?
Nathanael from New Braunfels, Texas
Would Film Noir have existed if World War II had not?
John
Are there any classical Film Noir movies that might be worth a redo along the lines of NIGHTMARE ALLEY, with the chance of going back to original source material without the production code limitations?
Carlton, Atlanta, Georgia
In WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS Scalise keeps administrating what appears to be a nasal spray, but from my memory of Le Chiffre in James Bond isn’t it likelier that it is Benzedrine he’s inhaling?
Eric
One of my more favorite movies of recent vintage is EMILY THE CRIMINAL.  What do both of you think about the film?
John - Brooklyn, N.Y.
I recently watched David Lynch's brilliant LOST HIGHWAY for the first time in several years and for the first time the very noir elements really stuck out for me. Is there another neo-noir with such strong sci-fi elements?
Joe on Long Island
My first question is for Eddie.  Do you consider Alfred Hitchcock’s SPELLBOUND and THE PARADINE CASE – both starring your favorite actor, Gregory Peck – to be good representatives of noir films?
Anne, since you are a big fan of the Golden Era of Radio, were you a fan of the Alan Ladd radio series, BOX 13, and do you think it qualifies as a noir?
Loren, Chicago
Re THE DISTANCE. Couldn't find any definition for "Swansy hollow punch". Could you elaborate? Did you make up the fighters' names or are they real names pulled from the past Was this your first book-length effort? If not, what was?
Jay and Connie, Ann Arbor, MI

EMILY THE CRIMINAL (2022) Grade: B-
It was a new-age crime film with a strong revenge element. Aubrey Plaza acting displayed a wider range. The ending was brave & a little unexpected in a good way.

Movie Review...Emily the Criminal
Tumblr media
(3.5/5) If life continues to serve you lemons and lemonade at some point, you might as well become the lemon tree. Those were my initial final thoughts after watching this film. Emily, the criminal, is more like Emily, the scammer. This brief snapshot of her life, you can tell certain decisions led her down a different path. It seemed she was trying to recover, but life kept serving them lemons.
Pivot or Persevere...that was the message I got from the film. Do I keep allowing life to beat me up and play the game in hopes of one day something would turn around for me? Or do I make my own rules and play my own game.
Towards the last act of the film, you can see that switch in the main character. You can see the path she turned to in that proverbial fork in the road. I kept wavering throughout the plot if I wanted to root for her...if I wanted her to win. There was one scene where she answered a question exactly how I would, and after that my mind was team Emily.
Emily (Aubrey Plaza) is saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a "dummy shopper," buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by a handsome and charismatic middleman named Youcef (Theo Rossi). Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick cash and illicit thrills of black-market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they hatch a plan to bring their business to the next level in Los Angeles.
