A one-day friend - O. Piastri
Summary: Y/n and Oscar sit next to each other on a flight and get to know each other. Note: I know Oscar probably flies business or first class, but for the story he doesn't.
Tumblr media
A small smile curved on Y/n her mouth when she looked out of the airplane window. She was leaving Europa behind. After a month of travelling through Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy, it was time to go home. Y/n was glad she finally could go home, but this trip made her realise how much she wanted to move to Europe, being free and away from home.
It was sunny outside, there were no clouds. Usually, Y/n flew on the worse times: in the night and in the bad weather. This was one of the first times she was able to have a look at the tiny countries. While looking at the view she got, her mind stopped working - in the right way. She finally cleared her mind. There was nothing she was thinking of. It was like meditating.
The entertainment system of the airplane was insanely good. There were a lot of films Y/n was planning on seeing but didn't have the chance to because...reasons. She was glad she had the time and was being able to watch the films now.
When the first film came to an end, Y/n planned on catching up with work. Her fingers touched the touch screen to look up the flight details. She tightened her jaw when her airplane neighbour was touching her arm. I get it, we don't have much space, but you are in my aura right now. Before she knew it, the head of her neighbour was softly falling on her shoulder. Y/n gently moved her head to see what exactly was going on. The man was asleep. Great. She closed her eyes and sighed, annoyed.
There was an option to wake him up, but Y/n didn't want to. Maybe something was going on with him, and perhaps this was the first moment he could sleep? Or maybe he had anxiety? Or he just broke up? Or he was just tired? Y/n opened her eyes and looked at the screen again. She was being kind and let him sleep. Four more hours to go and a fantastic entertainment system. The option work wasn't an option anymore.
"Good evening, this is your captain speaking. In less than 20 minutes we will be arriving at Dubai International Airport. It is currently 21:45 and 30º degree celsius. On behalf of Emirates and the crew, thank you for flying Emirates, and hopefully, we will see you soon again," the captain spoke after a few hours.
Y/n stretched her legs and breathed deeply but gently in. The man was still sleeping with his head on her shoulder. It gave her two thoughts: he was a stranger, this was odd, and it wasn't as uncomfortable as she thought it would be. The cabin crew were walking through the plane to get all the garbage and inform the people to straighten their seats. The friendly steward asked if Y/n could wake up her partner. What partner?
She did what she was being asked and nudged the side of the man with her elbow. The man looked up, and his eyes widened. "We are about to land," she awkwardly smiled and pressed her lips into a thin line.
"Oh," he mumbled and looked confused around. "Thank you. And I'm sorry," he apologised. "Have I been asleep for the whole flight?"
"Yup."
"I'm sorry," the man said again.
Y/n looked at him. "It's alright," she told him. The look in her eyes was warm and friendly. The man felt sorry he might have made her flight uncomfortable. "They...erm...gave me the snacks. So..." She gave the man the two cups of water and some crackers.
"Right, thanks."
Maybe the best part of this flight was for the man, he was the one who got his sleep. Y/n, on the other hand... Sitting at the window seat is fantastic because you can look outside, but when having strangers next to you who are asleep...not ideal. Especially when you need to go to the bathroom. For those six hours, it was slightly subtle. But for the next flight, it would be hell. Why am I so helpful to people?
The plane landed safely and smoothly at Dubai International Airport. It was already dark and warm, but that didn't matter to Y/n. She needed to go to her transfer flight on the other side of the massive airport. There were two hours left to the next departure. Y/n was glad she could finally walk and stretch her legs properly. It was late in the evening, so there weren't many people around the airport anymore. She didn't mind, within 30 min she was at the right gate. It gave her the time to look around at the duty-free stores. It was the same as the airports in Europe, so there weren't many new things to see.
Even though it wasn't new, Y/n found a manner to almost miss her flight. And you know when you are a national embarrassment when they have you call your name through the speakers of the airport. But she wasn't the only one, more people were invited. Y/n made her way to the gate and showed her ticket.
"You are right on time, Miss Y/l/n," the Qantas Airline employee said.
Y/n politely smiled and walked towards the airplane. Fourteen more hours to and we are reaching the next destination: Melbourne. She ran her hand through her hair and stepped into the aircraft. The friendly crew welcomed Y/n and guided her to her seat.
"Thanks," Y/n thanked the woman and smiled.
Window seat, again.
She looked at the people who were sitting next to her. A woman and a man, but one of them was the man who slept next to her on the flight to Dubai. Her eyes widened, and she parted her lips. They both stood up to let Y/n take place on her own seat.
"Well, this is awkward," the man said and looked at Y/n. Y/n fastened her seatbelt and made herself comfortable for how comfortable an economy seat could be. "Next time, just wake me up."
What are the coincidences this is actually happening?
"I will," Y/n shortly said.
"I'm Oscar," the man introduced himself and stuck out his hand.
"Y/n." She grabbed his hand and softly squeezed in it.
"Nice to meet you, Y/n."
He was polite. "Nice to meet you too, Oscar."
--
"This is actually the first time I have seen this film," Oscar said when 'Bohemian Rhapsody' ended.
Y/n raised her eyebrows and looked surprised at him. "You serious?" Oscar slowly nodded. "You seriously have something missed during those years. I'm glad I made you watch it."
The fourteen-hour flight was surprisingly good and fun. Oscar was a kind man, after all. They talked a bit and watched a few films together. Y/n wasn't able to sleep, she couldn't sleep on the plane, and Oscar already had his sleep from the previous flight.
Oscar smirked. "You got me," he said and stretched his arms above his head. "Four more hours to go." Y/n took a deep breath and nodded. "I'm going for a walk. Maybe you should go too."
He was right; having a walk through the plane - it probably wasn't more than 150 metres if you walked to the back of the plane and back, but it was a walk to stretch the legs on this long flight. Oscar asked the unknown woman, who was sitting on his other side if she could stand up. Oscar and Y/n got up and walked to the back of the plane.
"This is just so awkward," Y/n said. "All those people who are looking at you, yikes."
Oscar smirked and looked behind him at Y/n. "You must do something for it, Y/n."
When they arrived at the back of the plane, Y/n had no idea what she saw. There was a small bar, there were bowls filled with fruit and biscuits. She looked at Oscar, and a happy smile grew on her lips.
"See, the back of the planes are the best. Not many people know this, but this is for us, the economy section. This is another reason why you should go for a walk in the plan: drinks and food," he told her and grabbed an apple and a biscuit.
"Wow, what an invention. Brilliant," Y/n spoke and grabbed an apple as well. It felt good to walk around. Sitting on an airplane seat for several hours was awful; the little space, the many people in your aura and not being able to stretch your legs as you want to. "I will keep this in my mind. I seriously had no idea this actually was on a plane."
"Perks of a frequent flyer," he winked.
"I am too," she smirked. "But I had no idea."
"Oh."
The last four hours went by, and they landed safely on the Australian ground again. Y/n was glad she wasn't alone after all. Flying with someone on your side is a lot better than flying alone. They had talked a lot about regular stuff, like politics, the news and that kind of stuff. They left the plane and walked both towards the exit of the airport.
Y/n read the signs on the board and looked around. "I have to go to my next flight," she mentioned Oscar and stopped walking. His smile softened and looked disappointed at her. It was almost sad to see him like that like he hoped Y/n would go to Melbourne as well. "So..."
"Where do you have to go?" He asked curiously.
"Sydney," she answered and pressed her lips into a thin line. "Thanks for the great company, it absolutely made it all better," she smiled.
He nodded and gave her a small smile, he surely was disappointed to leave her behind. "Give me your phone." He had to deal with this situation quickly, as the intercom called for the flight was about to board to Sydney. Y/n squeezed her eyebrows together and grabbed her phone out of her pocket. "I really enjoyed this flight, I wish every flight was just as joyful as this one. Text me when you are home, okay?"
Is this his smooth way for asking my number? To keep in touch with me? "I will."
Y/n put her phone back in her pocket and gave him a warm but exhausted smile. An hour and thirty more hours to go, and she was home. People from their flight passed them, some were annoyed, some were happy to arrive at their home base.
"I really have to go," she said and slowly walked away. "Thanks again!"
Oscar parted his lips and knew he needed to say something. "You can 'accidentally' miss your flight so I can take you out on a coffee!"
Y/n looked at him and lowered her eyebrows while a cheeky smile curved on her lips. "Safe trip home, Oscar," she chuckled.
"It was worth a shot," Oscar said loudly and pointed at her. It made her laugh. "Have a good flight, Y/n!" He showed one of his best smiles and winked.
Y/n bit her lip and turned around while she walked away. A small smile played on her lips. It was just a friend on the plane. Sometimes you have friends for a short time because you are in the same situation. This is a situation like that. But this oddly felt more than just a friend.
No Y/n, just a one day-friend, great company on the flight, maybe a little bit too much coincidence, but a one day-friend.
Her eyes fell on the dark airport. There were lights of a landing plane, the runway and...and the ugly self-reflection of herself in the windows. A sigh left her mouth, and she went to the gate of her last flight.

discussing all things arab in jwct s2e05!
first off, that is shish tawook (chicken kebab), not beef. but overall a pretty good representation of fast food in the arab world. white rice is an extremely common side dish with kebabs (alongside grilled vegetables like tomatoes, onions, peppers) and that little container is garlic which is common to put on meats. particularly pita bread wraps/sandwiches.
Tumblr media
and she really didn't need to say "beef" kebab. only chicken kebab really gets singled out. really outting yourself as a foreigner there, brook. broadly, the default for all meat-based dishes will either be lamb or beef. and no menus will not clarify which it is 90% of the time. they force you into russian roulette.
Tumblr media
moving on to the few lines of arabic they speak, this is probably the MOST fascinating part. arabic is not like english. there is universal language which is derived from the qur'an and regional cultural language. modern standard arabic is basically "formal" arabic that is used in international business, government documents, the news, etc. this is the kind of arabic you'd learn in the united states from a textbook. however, native speakers have regional dialects. regional dialects are SO expansive that it's argued that many of them might actually be qualified as separate languages. even the same country might not be able to understand each other because of things like rural vs urban language developments.
why does this matter? soyona speaks egyptian arabic. this is the dialect you'd use to communicate in places like cairo. egyptian is ALSO the "film" language. egyptians completely dominated the arabic speaking film industry meaning it's widely understandable to arabs who grew up in the age of television. but it's also famous for having a thousand unique words that make you go "what the fuck does that mean".
as someone who lives in dubai, soyona should actually be speaking gulf arabic on a daily basis. gulf arabic is the common dialect of lower saudi, the UAE, most of oman, etc. it's also famously not spoken any where near cairo. it'd be equally understandable if soyona spoke MSA to brooklynn as that's likely what she'd speak with trading partners. i must stress that arabic dialect isnt like americans talking to british people. it's closer to spaniards talking to french people. you kind of get the gist but only kind of.
while meta-wise we know this wasn't something the crew intended, it adds an interesting layer to soyona's canon lore. while egyptian is something somewhat *understood*, it is NOT the common language of where she's doing business OR the common dialect overall. meaning she almost certainly has to have some major base of operations in cairo, too, and it likely happened before moving to the gulf.
Tumblr media
brooklynn ALSO speaks dialectal arabic! for her, it makes a lot of sense with the previous mention of egyptian being the "film" language. she could've honestly picked this up by watching a few shows on the way over. and fun fact, it's also dialectally what yaz would say as a lebanese since the same words are used in levantine. however, again, this is definitely NOT msa meaning it's extremely unlikely she picked it up from a textbook or any kind of formal language learning platform.
moving on, we have fashion: brooklynn, dear. you look like such a tourist. no wonder she caught you so easily. the tight, ripped pants and short sleeved, close fitting t-shirt give her away instantly. while yes you'd be allowed to dress like this, everyone knows you're an american vacationer instantly. you might be able to get away with this in the levantine cities, but the GULF? her ass is NOT the delivery woman.
Tumblr media
soyona actually hits the nail pretty well for what a local would dress like. she's got a bit of a "western" influence to her, but honestly that's how a lot of the upper business class dresses in the modern era. her sleeves are long and to the wrist, her pants are long, and she's got a loose overcoat. she looks very much like she shops designer which is exactly how a local would display wealth. the only thing she's missing is gold jewelry honestly.
Tumblr media
lastly, there's the elephant in the room... the gulf. we call people from this place khaleejis. everyone outside the gulf hates khaleejis. even non-khaleejis in the gulf hate khaleejis. the kind of rich opulence you see in this apartment is exactly what you'd expect from a khaleeji.
one of the worst places of the animal wildlife trade is in the gulf. while certain regulations have since been put in place, being at the center between africa and asia with some of the wealthiest people in either region makes it prone for animal trafficking. big cats are seen as one of the ultimate status symbols for the ultra wealthy. dinosaur trafficking moving to dubai is about as realistic as it gets.
Tumblr media
the only unrealistic part is the lack of visible indentured servants. to put it frankly, the cultural norm is to have a pseudo-slave (90% of dubai is made up of a non-khaleeji slave class. i'm serious. and westerners like soyona make up a significant portion of the slave-owning class. the building brooklynn was staying in was 100% actively being built by slaves) who lives in one of your guest bedrooms. it's actually weirder and more sus if she doesn't have one. pair that with soyona wanting to sell militarized dinosaurs which will be used exclusively on the areas exploited by the dubai elite and umm... well, lets close that can of worms before this gets really awkward

1st/2nd photos
IWTVWriters: Shooting the finale was crazy b/c we had 2 crew units going basically every day. One unit finished the NOLA part of 107 while the other shoot all of Dubai. @jacobanderson bounced back and forth constantly. Here he is giving the crew a speech after wrapping their last night shoot.
3rd (and 4th) photo
IWTVWriters: CREW SHOT! There is no show without these incredible, hardworking people who worked months and months through the night to make this world come to life.
I dont know the source of the 5th and 6th. i found it on sreidthinker and dailyraleighr. One of the tweets says "last day of iwtv s1 filming" so i assume they are all from same day (unless Sam is using the same shirt but it's from a different day). Jacob' shirt in the 7th photo looks that is the same was the one he have underneath Louis' jacket and the ice cream one maybe it is his shirt bc he had to change it since the other one it's part of louis costume.
I found the source for the 7th photo on Jacob IG and the 8th from immortal_daily (at they dont wanna give their source but pretty sure it was either a crew member or then either jacob or sam 😉).

Hey lovelies. This week has been hell. I know it has. I hope you know though that for every asshole out there who is unkind to you or wants to take away your rights-- you have a hell of a lot more of us who love you dearly and recognize the beauty and the wonder in you. I know it's easy to fall into despair.. and it's good to feel the feelings to help heal them, but don't fall too far down the rabbit hole okay? You are loved. Period. You are worthy of love. Period. You are valid. Period. Shine brighter than their hate. Shine brighter than their ignorance. You are a force to be reckoned with. Be safe, and reach out when you are in trouble or unsure. There is no shame in getting help-- and most of all, there is no shame in being you, okay? None. We will persevere. Love you crew.

https://www.tumblr.com/unscripted-hurricane/780453707334713344/the-real-lestat-hes-a-bit-more-messy-hes-a?source=share
The way Sam speaks, he says Lestat throughout season 1 and 2 has being portrayed "through the eyes of his past lovers". He then goes on to add, "who obviously have some damage from him". The way he speaks is like these are the facts.
My interpretation of this is that the facts will remain as they do with almost all revisits and they will give some important context, meaning Lestat will have an actual relationship with Armand, possibly because the relationship with Nicki will start to deteriorate and maybe to make Nicki jealous (drawing a parallel with Louis and antoinette), then choose to abandon armand when things with Niki completely fall apart, which is why armand is angry with him and feels like he was hurt by lestat. Personally I wish this does not happen but this is where the 'screwed up' Lestat that Rolin and now Sam keep mentioning fits. The writing choices so far from the creators seem to follow this pattern with making everything into petty relationship drama. To me it sounds like another red flag on how s03 characterization will unfold for lestat.
Well.
Personally I hope that will not be the case, because Lestat and Armand NOT going all the way is part of the dynamic they have after all.
Granted, them burning up the screen has its merits, obviously :)), but I am also not particularly into the petty jealousy dramas... and I am NOT convinced yet that they will go that route - Antoinette in season 1 or not.
Because... 2x03 was a fanfic thing - Sam points out that Armand does not particular like him, has issues with him - which is true, but not wholly. He also points out that Lestat is NOT this thing as he's being seen through the perspective of his exes.
And what we saw through the perspective of his "exes" (and there I would, indeed, count Armand, either way, because he and Lestat HAVE something going, before Armand fucks it up after all), was a tale - a deliberately edited tale.
Everything comes back to that.
What we saw so far was a tale - a crafted, edited, manipulated tale.
Which carried truth, no doubt.
But it also deliberately distorted things - and important things. Louis used Antoinette to deflect from the other problems of his and in his relationship with Lestat, Armand used his mind gift to keep Louis asleep while he spun a little tale for Daniel, Armand put literal memories into Louis' head.
We'll see.
I do hope they will go mess, without the... petty jealousy stuff. These relationships are difficult and entwined enough to work without it.
And, you know, these comments by the cast and crew... remember when Assad would call Louis' and Armand's relationship "tender"?
Yeah - and then it turned to "tinder", as the show twisted it rather darkly, and we got the dog bowls and whips in the Dubai bedroom, and so on.
These are comments before they have even filmed it all.
Don't put too much weight on them - because they literally can't spoil anything yet - on top of not wanting to spoil anything, of course.

Alright. Let’s get into this concert “review.”
First of all y’all. I legit have no words. I’ve been to a Beyonce show before in 2018. OTR II was amazing, and the fact that I got see Beyonce AND Jay Z (one of my favorite rappers of all time) was just….insane.
But last night? It really is hard to put into words. When I say that show was perfect from top to bottom? PER. FECT. I didn’t take much video bc I just wanted to be in the moment and savor what I knew was gonna be an experience I’d remember forever. I’ll give a short breakdown tho.
Vocally she is unmatched. I’m sorry. The effortlessness of her “opening act” where she did most of her ballads was phenomenal. LA actually had a true opener (DJ Khaled), but she is her own opening act for most of the tour and she slays. Then you enter the Renaissance portion and she’s doing everything she did vocally but while dancing her ASS off. Who else is doing it like her?!
VISUALLY everything is stunning. The stage, the actual visuals going on on the screen, HER. Her dancers, her band, her background singers. Tens across the board. Everyone looks amazing and sounds amazing. And you can tell she hired the best of the best for every single aspect of her show. Sound, lights, crew, performers. Everyone was on their A-game.
Anyway. The show was outstanding. She literally performed the whole album bc LA got the coveted “thique/all up in your mind/drunk in love (with the Dubai ending) trifecta. 🥲
I’m also sure she was filming that show and we’ll see it in whatever concert film/documentary/visuals she’s working on for this era. Cannot wait.
Lastly. Full look last night. Thanks for hyping me yall. 🥲

Next Bangtan Gal Chapters! :)
Tumblr media
Hey! This is to show what's coming next as I edit the chapters I made years ago. When I do officially make it to the last chapter I stopped at, updates will be slow since I will be back writing again but I'm excited to continue the story. If you are curious to see what's to come, here are the next set of chapters I will be working on. There are a few more chapters after this before I begin making new chapters but if you want to be surprised, go on ahead and just ignore this.
I do plan to put suggestive and smutty stuff in this. I don't think I am the best at it but it's a challenge I'm willing to accept and work hard in writing so stay tuned and bear with me! :)
-----
You Were Worth The Wait (Jennie tells Jungkook exactly how she feels about him)
------
It's About Time (Jennie and Jungkook officially start dating! Jennie becomes a guest judge on Produce 101. While on break, BTS spend time doing leisure activities. Jennie and Jungkook celebrate their first Valentine's Day)
--------
King of Masked Singer (Jennie stars in King of Masked Singer and gets surprised when one of her favorite artists is one of the judges for the show. Jennie encourages Taehyung with his acting)
Ejected (Jennie finally hangs with Baekhyun and meets the rest of EXO. BTS return for ISAC as Jennie deals with issues on the volleyball court)
White Day (JenKook get caught making out during a commercial filming. JenKook celebrate their first White Day together. Jennie continues to be mentored by G-Dragon as he helps her prepare for the Fire comeback)
------
FIRE (BTS film for Fire. Jennie hangs with Layla and thinks about when BTS went to film BTS NOW 3 and the Save Me MV.)
-------
Prom (Jennie helps Jungkook when he gets sick before promotions for Fire. Jennie gets bummed when she sees Prom videos and photos on social media since she never experienced it before. Dubai has earned its reputation as a global hub for creativity and innovation, and its film industry is no exception. With stunning architectural marvels, pristine beaches, expansive deserts, and a cosmopolitan skyline, Dubai offers filmmakers an unparalleled backdrop for their productions. However, to film in Dubai, securing a film permit is essential to ensure compliance with local regulations and access to the city’s diverse locations.
This blog explores the process, benefits, and essential details about obtaining a Dubai film permit.
1. Why is a Film Permit Necessary in Dubai?
A film permit is a legal document issued by the Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) that grants permission to film in public and private locations within the emirate. It ensures that filmmakers adhere to local laws, respect cultural norms, and maintain public safety during production.
Key reasons for requiring a film permit:
Regulatory Compliance: Abides by Dubai’s laws and guidelines for filming.
Location Access: Enables filming in exclusive or restricted areas.
Support and Facilitation: Provides access to local resources, including equipment rental and production support.
2. Benefits of Filming in Dubai
Dubai’s appeal as a filming destination goes beyond its picturesque locations:
Diverse Landscapes: From urban skyscrapers to serene deserts, Dubai offers a wide range of settings.
World-Class Infrastructure: Advanced technology, transportation networks, and professional production facilities support seamless filming.

Tumblr media
3. Steps to Obtain a Dubai Film Permit
Securing a film permit in Dubai involves a straightforward process:
Step 1: Identify Filming Locations
Determine whether the locations are public or private. Public locations require approval from DFTC, while private locations require consent from property owners.
Step 2: Submit an Application
Applications must be submitted to the DFTC with the following details:
Script or storyboard.
Filming schedule and duration.
List of cast and crew.
Equipment inventory.
Proof of insurance covering liabilities during filming.
Step 3: Obtain Necessary Approvals
The DFTC liaises with relevant authorities to secure permissions, including traffic control, security, and municipal approvals.
Step 4: Pay Fees
Film permit fees depend on the type of production, location, and duration of filming. Payment must be completed to finalize the application.
Step 5: Receive the Permit
Once approved, the permit is issued, allowing filming to commence.
Tumblr media
4. Key Considerations When Filming in Dubai
Cultural Sensitivity: Filmmakers must respect local customs and avoid content that could be deemed offensive.
Drone Usage: Using drones for filming requires additional permits and strict adherence to aviation guidelines.
Environmental Responsibility: Ensure that filming activities do not damage natural habitats or public spaces.
Working Hours: Be mindful of public convenience, especially in high-traffic areas.
5. Partnering with Local Experts
Navigating the film permit process can be simplified by working with experienced location managers or production companies in Dubai. These professionals provide valuable support, including:
Coordinating with authorities.
Recommending ideal filming locations.
Managing logistical challenges.
6. Conclusion
Securing a Dubai film permit is the first step in bringing your creative vision to life in one of the world’s most iconic cities. With its diverse landscapes, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and supportive film industry, Dubai offers a perfect setting for productions of any scale.
