Today is the day when the first president of the Republic of the Philippines wave the flag on his balcony to celebrate our independence from the Spain is 1898. (FYI, we were colonized by Spain for more than 300 years. That's why until now we still carry their culture and influences.) To all my fellowmen, Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan (Happy Independence Day)! The mural that you are seeing right now is made by Carlos Francisco, a national artist. It was my first time to see this historical mural entitled "Filipino Struggles Through History." I am honoured to see it first hand last year during my short visit in the Philippines.
