if you have paid any attention to my ramblings on my process, you know that i tend to rethink my comics and toss out a lot of work if im not satisfied with how it turned out. so i thought id share some previews of comics that have gone unseen, and why they havent been posted (yet?) in order of how likely i am to finish and/or post them :)

Be nice to each other: Main 4. Tomtord/Polyworld, angst. 4 pages. Matt confronts Tom and Tord on how have been acting, accidentally compelling them into saying how they really feel.

Status: abandoned.

I drew this one quite a while ago and i still really like the dialogue and character interactions i wrote for it! vampire hypnosis is a super cool concept and im definitely going to use it in the future, but this ultimately didnt pan out how i wanted it to.

Why it's not posted: while the buildup and climax are really good, this would be a huge mess to clean up. this would require some serious work both between the four of them and on my part for writing and drawing all of that!! plus, it would totally change the relationship dynamic between Tom and Tord, possibly ending it altogether (and i still have so much i want to do with them!!!)

Ed and Edd: Eduardo, Edd, Eduardo's mother. No pairings, angst. 3 pages. Eduardo can't wait to introduce himself at school, but he's got competition for the name he chose.

Status: abandoned.

Trans Eduardo is such a good concept. imagine figuring out who you are only to find out someone else already is that. of course you're going to hate them.

Why it's not posted: two main reasons. one is that i couldn't figure out how to end the comic (a recurring theme lol), but another is that i'm still not super confident with writing Eduardo yet. ...or writing children. so kid Eduardo is a challenge.

Can't tell where you're looking: Tommatt, fluff. 3 pages. Tom isn't as sneaky as he thinks he is.

Why it's not posted: i had a great idea, drew several pages, thought about it, and decided it sucked, actually. it can be reworked, but my motivation did not get out unscathed.

Bad (?) Dream: Tomtord, uh.... yeah thats just smut huh. 2 pages. A bad dream for one and a good dream for the other.

Why it's not posted: originally, it was because i didn't want to post suggestive stuff on this blog. now, it's because i found better ways to cover the concepts in this comic. Y'all will simply have to wait and see ;)

I've been wanting to talk about this SOOOO BAD!!! because why would you transform in a second via a poof of smoke when it could be an hour-long painful disturbing process?! honestly could be described as hurt/comfort/hurt.

Why it isn't posted: well for one it barely counts as a comic, just random sketches and a general idea. to be fair thats how most of my comics start, but... you know. i havent worked on it in a while mainly because the characters need to solve some personal problems first.

Not tonight: Tordmatt. fluff/suggestive. 2 pages. Matt's got pointy ears again, and Tord knows what that means!

SORRY IF THIS IS LATE!! I did not have any when you asked and I got to work, figured it was time anyways(ESP FOR AKI), even if they were just colored headshot sketches!

For the most part Hoshi's color pallet has stayed the same, I just added an ashy brown gradient to his hair since idk, I thought it looked good, but it can also be optional, idc LOL

Habiki has dyed hair, so normally his hair would be the same color as Hoshi's with the ashy gradient but he likes the darker look. Habiki also wears makeup, like full face makeup LOL Also it doesn't show super well but for the lighter strands in their hair it's supposed to look more white so it'd honestly be lighter, I'd use the highlight color as the base color lol

Kage pretty much looks the same, I'm still debating with myself if I wanna make his hair this orangish-red or the prev red color(cause i REALLY like the previous red color on them) so honestly I'm fine if you wanna draw them with their prev red hair!!

YIPPEE FIRST COLORED AKI DRAWING!! She pretty much just has Jun's color pallet but green LOL and she mostly just wear's blacks and greens, she's literally stealing Hoshi's color and pulling it off better cause Hoshi sucks💅✨

Kei's hair is just white, but it needs to be shaded with pink to give some kind of illusion of a pink undertone. Then Kei kinda wear neutral colors, kinda like Haruto, wearing beiges and browns since Kei kinda has to be professional

okay I REALLY didn't need to draw Yani seeing as they've just stayed the same through all the redesigns, BUT I thought this was a perfect opportunity to draw Yani in another one of their outfits!! So here's a lil doodle of their casual 4 outfit!! :3

Also for the whites and blacks and grays in both their clothes(and in really any of the Mine's cast's clothes) i personally like to use a REALLY dark or light shade of their signature color, but you can feel free to use whatever black white or gray you want to! Also they typically all wear black white and some shade of their signature color, but I'm fine with them being put in anything!

anyways, since I've had about enough of drawing Kiana for the rest of my life (/hj) I'm gonna put a pause on this project; but I'll turn it from a sprint into a marathon and try and work on it occasionally instead of all at once

Portraits drawn from imagination

Started the process by trying to draw Kiana's head from imagination; then after each drawing I'd pause, look at some references, see what mistakes I made, then put away the references and drew from imagination (and referring to previous drawings) again. I also took breaks at two points to practice drawing eyes & hair before going back to drawing Kiana

For the last 4 portraits, I'd draw a head from imagination as a warm-up to a drawing session, and then do another head much later on instead of doing it immediately. Around halfway through this "phase" I started the other phases at random points, and finished this portion of the process in the first ~10-15 hours of drawing time. The rest of the time was split across the other exercises

Also I gave her an angry expression because I felt it was the easiest for me to do from memory since I've drawn HoV more than just "Kiana" herself. I also used a boring level 3/4 view without much perspective because it forced me to really make sure I was doing everything accurately and with care.

Basically my thinking was that if I could make a boring level 3/4 portrait look good enough, then I'd have no trouble getting it to look good in other perspectives. That seemed to be true when I got to the stage where I was doing expression practice and had to deal with more head tilt and other perspectives, lol

Full-bodies

Started with an anatomy model loosely based on the proportions of Kiana's in-game model, and then two attempts at doing full-body drawings from imagination before realizing that it's bloody insane to try and do that much detail from imagination and I have much better things to do with my life than that x-x

Action sketches/"gesture" drawings

"Gesture" is in quotes because I was way too slow with these for it to really count as proper gesture drawing, imo. But the intention was to start with gesture, and I got closer to that as I went on.

It's way too tempting to start adding detail so I had to metaphysically slap myself with a frying pan to keep myself from getting derailed by that >.>

To get references for this, I did screen recording of gameplay on the PC with OBS studios, then used DaVinci Resolve to play back the recordings.

On PC, when using the mouse controls you can hold the camera fairly still when doing an attack sequence, making it awesome for getting unique angles. For instance, when I recorded Void Drifter's attacks, I was able to get at least 4 different PoVs of her attacks: from the left, the right, behind & above, and in front & below.

Unfortunately, though, it was a bit of a hassle to get good recordings because I had to go into an actual combat stage to record it instead of being able to use an empty testing stage.

With DaVinci Resolve I could "split" clips to make cuts in the timeline that let me easily mark the spots where different attack sequences started, and I could also easily play it in .5x speed to help me figure out how the animations were going from one set of frames to another.

Plus if you close the program after saving, when you open it up again it remembers which frame you were last on and takes you straight there, making it easy to continue from one day to another.

I used White Comet, Herrscher of the Void, and Void Drifter attack animations here, but I also did recordings of Knight Moonbeam and Herrscher of Flamescion, and I might give those a try someday.

Facial expressions practice

Started with the set of rough sketches (first image), then did some expression practice from imagination (second and third images) to try and get used to how the proportions of the face change slightly with movement of the eyebrows/eyelids/jaw, since the shape of the eyes and mouth is especially important when doing stylized faces (like the anime style that HI3rd uses)

Then this morning I started working through the original rough sketches and developing them one-by-one, getting through 8 before I decided to call it quits and wrap up the project for now

So the facial expression practice pretty much the culmination of all my practice. All the practice with proportions, the contours & forms of the hair, monochromatic shading, line quality, shape design, etc.

This was also one of the few times I've ever taken stylized references and actually adapted them to some extent instead of directly copying them!

This is especially noticeable in the hair, where I used a more standard style for the hair, in contrast with the variety of hairstyles and shapes used in the various manga references (i.e. black-and-white Escape from Nagazora Kiana's messy hair vs the neat and solid hair in the colored Gratitude Arc, AE Invasion, and Moon Shadow Kiana)

Summary: After Chad's death, you decided you had to do something. With Mindy and your mom's help, you come up with a plan to trapped Ghostface. Little do you know that the price to pay will be high... Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3 || Part 4 || Part 5 || Part 6 || Part 7 Warnings: blood, death of character (I swear this time it's for the plot, don't kill me it hurts me too), angst a/n: I drew a little plan so you can see the location (even for I needed it at one point so...) hope you can read my handwriting lol (English isn't my first language, I'm sorry if there are mistakes or if something doesn't make sense TvT)

"We're safe now, right?" Lexi asked, breaking the silence

You didn't know how much you slept that night, but certainly not enough to talk about that right after waking up.

No one answered her question, only sharing a knowing look.

"With him we're never safe. Trust me, I know"

"But Damian's in jail!"

"Chances are there is more than one killer"

"Okay then, we just have to hide until the other one gets caught" Lexi shrugged her shoulders

"It's useless, he always finds us"

"... Maybe we could use it against him" everyone turned to look at you "We lure him, and we lock him up"

"It's risky, very risky" your mom warned

"It is, but it could work. We just need a bait..."

"And how do we decide who will be the bait? I don't want to be the bait" Lexi complained

"If we figure out Ghostface's next victim... we have our bait" Tara intervened

You all stayed silent a moment, trying to think of the next victim.

"... Do you really think he wanted to kill me that night? I mean- okay he stabbed be and everything, but if he really wanted to kill me, he just had to slit my throat, right? So why didn't he did that, to be 100% sure I would die?"

More silence. You took it as a sign to continue.

"What if... what if he had something against me - like Amber and Richie with Sam - and wanted to hurt me before killing me?"

"Why do you make it all about yourself? Chad doesn't have anything to do with you"

"We're friends since forever, he's very dear to me"

"Okay but what if you're wrong and it has nothing to do with you? And you surviving the attack was just pure luck? 'A painful death' isn't a term you usually use when you don't want to kill someone"

"Maybe he wants to make us believe that to muddy the waters. I don't know okay, I'm trying to figure out why this is happening"

"Yeah well, I your theory's wrong we could all die"

"At least I'm trying, me. You're not helpful at all, just being rude like that."

Tara placed a hand on your thigh to calm you down and kissed you.

"It's okay baby, she's not worth it, I know you're doing your best" she whispered against your lips

"To be honest, whatever we do, we have a chance to die" Gale started "I have an idea for the where. The how, however..."

She tried to explain what the inside of the building looked like, but none of you really understood so she drew a quick sketch of it. It was way easier to understand that way.

"Now as I said before, how we can trap him is another story"

"I think I know"

It was the first time Mindy spoke since you woke up. She looked determined to do everything in her power to avenger her brother.

"Give me a paper, I'll show you"

Your mom obeyed and gave the girl paper and a pencil. She started to draw, and a few minutes after, showed you her plan:

"Let me explain in details" she said, seeing your confused faces "So the doted lines are the retractable glass windows / walls. According to Gale we have to buttons here, and one here. Those two activate this wall, and this one activates the two others. Did I lost anyone?"

You all shook your heads. For now, it was pretty clear.

"Okay, good. Now this is the first floor, right? I think you said at the ground floor there was other glass walls? Okay we'll see that later, but that's where Sam, Lexi and I are gonna stay"

"Wait, I want to be with Tara too" Sam protested

"We can't have too many people at the same floor. Don't worry, Y/n will be there to protect her." Mindy turned back to her plan "So, Y/n and Tara are the bait, they're going to try to lure him at the first floor, so Gale will be able to trap him with the glass walls and separate him from the girls. The other wall is the safe escape."

She gave more details after that. It was a good plan, much better than anything you could've think of.

"Any questions? No? Great"

"Anyone wants a coffee before we put our life in danger?" Lexi sighed

You all nodded. A coffee wouldn't hurt after all.

"Okay, I'm gonna get them, I'll be right back"

Now that you were there, you weren't so sure it was a good idea after all. What if it went wrong? What if Tara was hurt? You glanced over to your girlfriend. She seemed as nervous as you were.

"That's a bad idea, maybe we should-"

You were interrupted by your phone ringing in your pocket. You took it, hands shaking.

Probably: Damian Walker.

You looked at Tara and nodded, the signal for her to text the others to get ready. You picked up hesitantly.

"Hello?"

"Y/n, Y/n... It's a shame I didn't get you last time, really. For you I mean. If I had killed you... you wouldn't have had to watch her die before your eyes."

"O-oh yeah?"

"Yeah."

He hung up, leaving you even more nervous. Suddenly, a tall figure appeared. As expected he was here. Watching you from the other end of the corridor.

You back up slightly, taking Tara's hand to tell her it was going to be okay. Ghostface didn't move, he was just watching you, analyzing the building.

"We're here! Come and get us if you can, asshole!" you provoked him to make him follow you

He tilted his head to the side before taking a knife out of a pocket in his costume. And then he threw it in your direction, cutting your arm. You hissed in pain, putting your other hand on the wound.

He took a step forward then another one, faster, and in less than a second he was rushing towards you.

You started running, Tara by your side. She opened the stairwell's door and started climbing up the stairs, making sure Ghostface was still following you.

You kicked opened the door to the second floor and ran to the glass wall behind which your mother was, ready to push the button.

"Where is he?" she asked, voice muffled by the wall

"What?"

Out of breath, you turned around to look behind you. He was not here. When did he stop following you?

"Shit shit shit..." you mumbled, panicked, blood running down your arm

All of a sudden, Tara screamed.

"Gale!"

You turned around at the same time as your mother and felt your heart drop immediately. He was here. On the wrong side of the wall.

Your first reflex was to rush to the button to open the glass window. You pressed it, but nothing happened. You tried again, panic rising. Still nothing.

On the other side, Gale tried to press the button as well. It was not working. Ghostface tilted his head to the side. You knew he was smiling under his mask.

Tara tried to press the button too, but it was useless. You ran to the stairwell's door. Going back down and to the other side of the floor was the only available option now.

You tried to push it, but it didn't move. Not even an inch. Someone blocked it from outside.

"No no no no no... come on please..."

You kicked the door, threw yourself at it, in vain. Tara was fighting with the button desperately as Gale was fighting Ghostface with almost as much despair.

You took your phone and called Sam, covering your screen with blood. You started talking as soon as she picked up, voice shaking.

"Sam he's with my mom! We're stuck on the other side! You have to help her or she's gonna- she's gonna-"

"Fuck." you could hear her run with the others "We're here in a second" loud noises, as if they were hitting something "Y/n t-the door is locked... we can't- we can't-"

"Try to open it!"

You ran back to the glass window and hit the button, but it still wasn't working. You couldn't do anything.

You couldn't do anything while your mom was fighting for her life on the other side of this stupid wall. From where you were, you could see the stairwell's door shaking. The others were trying hard to open it.

You watched in horror as Ghostface stabbed Gale in the leg, in the stomach, in the arm. She was fighting back as strongly as she could, but she was no match.

You were desperately trying to make the button work, even if you knew it wouldn't.

He threw her to the ground, but she kicked him off her and stood up with difficulty, going in your direction. She didn't see him behind her. She couldn't do anything when he grabbed her by the shoulders and sunk his knife in her chest.

She tried to fight his grip, but she weakened with every passing second.

You had abandoned the button and were now hitting the glass window in hope to break it, screaming her name, but only managed to stain it with your blood.

He looked at you in the eye, challenging you, before taking the knife out of your mom's chest and dragging it to her throat.

"No..." you backed away from the window, tears in your eyes "Please don't..."

He nodded slowly. Yes. I'm gonna do it. And you can't save her.

She knew. She knew she was going to die. You could see it in her eyes.

"I love you, I'm sorry" she mouthed to you

You watched, helpless, as he pressed the knife against the flesh of her throat, slicing it opened. Your heart shattered.

The scream that left your throat as you fell on your knees was heart wrenching.

Hi I’m new to tumblr so I’m not sure how you normally post on here but I wanted to try posting some sketches of earth from tsams! I’m not the best with anatomy so I won’t lie I did trace over some photos (REAL PHOTOS NOT ART) I found on Pinterest and modified the proportions to fit my design, but I’m trying to improve lol. For now I just rlly wanted to flesh out my design for earth which I couldn’t do while my anatomy looked like crap 😭 all the full body ones I used references for but the one in the right corner was all me so I’ve got that to my name at least 💪 I’ll include my “reference” pictures as well :> and below the pics is an explanation of the design because I love to gush about this kind of thing. Fair warning, it’s pretty long LMAO

Hehe now it’s time for me to gush about my lil design 😈

So the first major difference you probably noticed (aside from body shape) is the very fluffy clothing I have her in. The leg warmers and… fingerless gloves? Leg warmers that she put on her arms? Idk what the arm ones are called but yk what I’m talking about lol. When I first noticed earths little rainbow headband my brain immediately said “80’s workout videos”. The big hair, the rainbow headband, it just immediately jumped ot at me and stuck. I decided to give her oversized leg warmers in that same rainbow pattern because it made me sad that her actual design doesn’t have the rainbow anywhere else. It’s funky and I like it what can I say.

Next I decided I really wanted her to wear thigh-highs. I personally love thigh-highs and also it gave me an excuse not to think about her leg mechanics. I tend to draw Sun and Moon like ball joint dolls, but it gets a lil funky to draw when they are bending their limbs so having a fluffy excuse to hide them was ideal lol. I decided to go with the bold choice of putting thigh highs and leg warmers on her, which I don’t regret even tho it probably seems like a lot. I might change a few things about her later down the line since these were just basic sketches so don’t worry if you hate it.

I gave her shorts because a skirt just didn’t feel right for her. I feel like a daycare attendant would be very active, even if earth tends to sit with the quieter kids, and a skirt would be very awkward to climb around in. I figured shorts would be good. I drew them like jean shorts since that was the original intention but they could be cloth rather than denim gimme time to think about it 💀

I had a lot of trouble decided whether the thingies on her shoulders were stand-alone or like pieces of hair she keeps up front (probably attached cuz she’s a robot) I decided on making them attached to the bigger floor of hair cuz I thought it looked cutest on the pic with her shoulders up and in front of her face lol.

Onto her chest plate thing, I was considering making it an actual shirt but decided against it. I wanted her to have a crop top bc I love crop tops so I just made it so her chest area was painted like a shirt, and then her middle area was back to her “skin” color, so it’s almost like a crop top but not really…?

Last but not least is her face, I also made that her “skin” color and just put the blue and green as her cheeks! I thought it looked cutest that way. She also has heterochromia cuz when a character has two main colors I really enjoy putting them on opposite sides as often as possible haha. So her green cheek has her blue eye and her blue cheek has her green eye. I know her original model has two blue eyes but this was what I went with.

Anyways that was super long and I’m super nervous about posting this so I’m just gonna hit post and if I find a typo or decide my lil explanation was 4 paragraphs too many I’ll fix it later. Have a nice day whoever is still reading this! :>

Oh and how soft Azul looks at Idia, like they are group of highly disfunctional people who are a little (a lot) crazy for each other in all sorts of ways 🫠 but they are so pretty!!!! and WHY can't Floyd keep his clothes on ahahaha. He's just waltzing around half naked like a gladiator of old and everyone else is dressed appropriately. Orthos excitement over shoes is so cute! Is he looking at Floyd showing off his cool kicks (cause that eel is a certified sneaker head(?) Shoe fanatic?)

And as a last thing. Kalim is like an Asian parent in the way they show their affection through 'You vaguely like something? Here's a lifetime supply because I don't know how else to show my feelings'. Like I know it's just how Kalim is, very open with his affections for Jamil and he probably thinks money and gifts are the best ways to display that. Especially if Kalim can't get as touchy feely and handy as he would like but it just reminded me of that behavior.

I am very happy you liked that Jade drawing, and YES it was me who drew that doodle of Jade and Rook lol We really love a forest as a creepy setting in general, so I just keep defaulting to something spooky whenever I draw anything related to it. And Jade’s new card was the perfect opportunity!

Igni+Octa is such a good combination, I can’t get enough of them! I’m happy you also like them together!! <3 Ortho would always get along with Floyd lol The Tweels are bad influence on him.

It isn’t necessarily Idia’s dream, it’s kind of like an AU? We just wanted to put them in a setting that has vibes similar to Ancient Greece. But you are right: Idia is terrified because while he was talking to Azul, Ortho got completely enamoured by a pair of cool sandals… what else these creeps (fellow shoe fanatics!) are going to give him??

I do think that he would love to shower Jamil with gifts, and to him it’s just like little ways to show appreciation and affection… when you are used to your family buying a whole-ass amusement park for one day just because you wanted to hang out there once, getting your beloved Jamil a lifetime supply of chocolate doesn’t feel too crazy at all!

I think it depends on what is on Jack’s mind at that time. It’s not entirely impossible for him to produce a sound that is too close to moaning… that would be embarrassing…

But in all honesty, I think he would yelp. Which would also be embarrassing because this is too much of a puppy-like reaction. He isn’t a kid anymore..!

Tips on drawing scratch? Sounds like a weird ask but I cant figure out how his body bends. Is he a pillow sorta shape or how? I love ur art btw!!!

Anon you are completely valid it took me like six months to get his look just right (and even then he's still wildly off model lol) but I'll tell you how I do it! (Pillow/flour sack shape is a good way to describe him, especially when bending or laying flat) Just a disclaimer, I highly recommend you search up his model sheets and rules because I tend to gloss over and bend a few of them but if you're planning on drawing him more stylized, here's the rules I follow:

1: As with all characters I draw I start with a circle sketch, it's not necessary but it helps when drawing multiple characters to keep them around the same size in comparison with each other.

2: colored line art sucks, especially with this character because you have to make sure that if he has any overlapping parts with another character (say Molly has her arm around him or something), they're on separate layers which makes coloring a NIGHTMARE. I have no advice for that other than play around with it until it looks right to you

3: coloring can either be really fun and satisfying or a pain in the ass, again it's trial and error for what looks right to you

4: some more dynamic poses and fluid actions are super fun and what I get complimented on the most! Breaking the model sheet to push your expressions more is super fun once you get the hang of it, just try drawing a bunch of random squiggles and shapes and try to draw Scratch over them, it's a super fun exercise!

Like I said before I'm not the judge or end-all when it comes to drawing scratch so just have fun with it! Experiment! Maybe study how some other artists draw him! I know I greatly admire some of the ways some artists I know and even some crew members and storyboard artists draw him so definitely start looking at fanart for inspiration. Hope this helps, I'm not a very good teacher!

This one was my first drawing of him, and i changed the tunic bc trying to draw it in ^ was too hard lol. the cloak is part of his outfit he just doesnt wear it all the time. This is also the scene where he tries to summon the ice ball in To Sleep in your Arms, right before he eats shit.

I don't rly like Akito's that much (i am not good at designing outfits. An's is v similar to her first casual outfit. Kohane's I like tho, she's so cute. pink sweater and poofy flared sleeves...

As for other characters:

Tsukasa and Mizuki are their knight cards. Saki is her valentines card. Rui I never imagined a specific card, a mix of Showtime ruler and kamikou fes maybe? This was before wd Rui so now it's that one. Honami is her putting feelings into words card (the saint one). Didn't think about anyone else.

12. describe your process while drawing

I put music/background noise on (very important), gather a bunch of references (half ends up being just emotional support tbh lol, especially when i reuse a file), and... just start drawing lineart ig? I don't really sketch? 😭 so i just adjust the lineart as i go. Usually the whole figure of a character first, then clothes on a new layer. Once lineart is done i cry internally and go thru the agonizing process of coloring (which feels like blindly trying to find my way thru dense fog), thinking it absolutely sucks until i'm finally done and suddenly decide "eh. it looks fine" or "actually, this is pretty good!" lol.

13. talk about a wip you like!

It's keqing the adepti's favorite with ganyu, morax and cloud retainer in the background. It's supposed to be a little dramatic lol, showing her as a passionate and skilled mortal right at the front, supported by some of the most powerful beings of liyue. So yknow, a cool pose and hopefully good enough composition (how do i fit all those creatures in there? we will see!). I put it on hold for gq birthday art bc it has a deadline, but i'm excited to go back to it later. I got more ideas i'm excited abt, but they don't count as wips yet ig lol, only existing as notes in my word doc for now.

21. what do you think your artstyle would taste like?

Hmm, i thought of halva. Sweet but a little weird strong taste ig (bc it's made of sesame, it has nuts too), pretty dense, kinda crunchy and crumbly, and with coarse texture. Feels niche among the sweets here tbh lol, not exactly everyone's favorite or first choice of sweets.

24. whats a compliment about your art that has always stuck with you?

because that's exactly how i'm trying to draw ganqing, even tho my artstyle is obviously pretty simplistic 😅 So idk how they even managed to see it in my art, but i'm glad!

I think there's 2 big ones rn, and i actually already started redrawing both of them. Not sure when i'll finish, that's currently 4 wips. The difference in how i drew the faces back then vs those new wips is pretty funny, especially in the iceskating drawing. I'm... excited to draw them better now lol!

Alex had been thinking things with Major Cleven were going much better than could be expected when a hand lands on his knee. “Is this that kind of… since there’s no women around? That…?”

“You think you’re that pretty?” Buck teases.

“I think everyone thinks you're that pretty. Not that I’m calling you a woman, Major.” Alex winces. “Sorry, Major.”

Buck laughs it off, “Don’t worry about, Lieutenant. 'Sides, I don’t really mind about that.”

“I suppose you don’t have to.” Alex breathes out.

“What’s that supposed to mean, Alex?”

“It’s all good things,” Alex evades. He eyes Buck, wondering if the major will let him drop it, and it seems he will. “Hey, Buck,” Alex starts.

“Yes?” Buck hasn’t moved his hand from Alex’s knee since he placed it there, but the heat has spread faster than a prairie fire.

“You were suggesting, uh,” Alex laughs, “I don’t think I can say it.” Buck’s hand reaches over for Alex's. With a jolt, Alex drops the charcoal he was using and instinctively mourns the mark it leaves on his paper.

Buck helps him forget. He draws Alex’s hand up to his mouth and gently guides him to brush his fingers against his bottom lip. Charcoal dust shades in his five o'clock shadow.

“You don’t have to pretend I’m someone I’m not, Alex. Tell you the truth, I’d rather you kept looking at me the way you are now. No hiding your good-looking self, either.” His tone is serious and his face is warm.

Alex nods slowly and tries to remove the nerves from his smile. “Am I looking at you like I think you’re really pretty?”

Buck grins almost like he’s shy. Almost. There’s a dash of smugness that Alex would look forward to trying to capture with charcoal.

“Alright,” Alex bites his lip and plays the flirt, “I can do that.” He moves his hand to the back of Buck's neck, sketching a thin line across his cheek as he does so. Buck lets go of his hand real fast to hold Alex’s neck, and they pull each other close.

“I’m not trying to hide,” Alex tries to admit.

“If you do, I’ll hide with you.” His mouth brushes over Alex’s and his tongue slips daintily across his lip. The action buries the rush of excitement of getting out of the Stalag with excitement of a different kind. “Sounds nice.”

Buck keeps Alex tight to his side but gives Alex the power to deepen their kiss at his own pace. To touch and be touched, to be the one who toes the line and the one who decides where the line is. Alex kisses Buck like he’s learning how to draw a woman’s curves. Moving his hands to know how to define her waist. Mapping the shapes of muscles and give of skin with careful, physical study. “Where are we going to hide?” Alex asks, in the short moment where Buck’s tongue isn’t in his mouth.

“Gotta figure that out, don’t we?” Buck’s hand travels down to his hip and encourages Alex closer. Alex throws his leg over Buck’s thigh and this no longer counts as sitting side-by-side. Buck’s arm winds around Alex's shoulders and the other hand moves further down his hip to rub up and down his leg. Alex holds Buck's face in his hands and thinks, This is new. The man appearing in his sketchbook whenever Alex wasn’t wary enough, drawing Alex onto his lap.

“Your sweat smells good.” Alex pants. He feels Buck’s fingers trail up his side and he thinks about how this will make his art better.

“Mm, used to be complimented on my aftershave.” Buck sighs.

“They didn’t know any better. Not as smart as me.”

Damn, Buck seems to like his confidence, “That’s right,” he pants, “know that about you, Alex.” He nips at Alex’s lower lip and licks it better in the same moment. Tentatively, Alex finds Buck’s and matches his action with a bite and a lick of his own. Their kiss rises in intensity yet the passion can’t come close to the volume of discovery that rushes out between them.

"Saw a woman dance once," Buck whispers. "In a dark bar in the early morning, smoke from last night had finally sank into the walls and our clothes. You know how it hangs in the air? Anyway, she was dancing like she was born from the smoke and dark and didn’t care about her parents. No agony of birth, either, just the songs they sang that night. Running her hands all along up and down her body. Turning slowly like how you turn the page, all careful of what she’d done before, and trying something new. Sketching herself a body so sexy." His lips are wet from both their tongues as he presses them against Alex's firmly for a moment. "Think about her sometimes."

Alex observes that Buck takes things slow with no frustration in sight. Kissing him is like floating with someone nice in calm water on a warm day; touching him is like making ripples that go on for miles with not an answering wave in sight. "What were you doing a bar that early?" Alex asks, and immediately wonders why he asked—might as well have asked what he was doing in the Stalag. “Don’t guys usually move onto something else by now?”

Buck’s answer is breezy but not dismissive. “You understanding why I fell in love with the B17s?”

Alex chuckles. He shifts in Buck’s lap. “I get why you flew point. You like leading men on, Major Cleven?”

“Oh, you’re quick.” Buck grins. “Yeah, I like taking my time. What about it, Alex?” His grip tightens around Alex’s waist despite that. Those P51s are a tight fit with a small seat—and all skills are transferable. His experience lends itself well to grinding on Buck’s lap now. Something clicks right and when Alex lets out a gasp, Buck is right there with him. They both start breathing a little faster as Alex moves. The air thins between them. Buck spreads his legs a little and Alex shifts up to let him do it.

Looking down at Buck, Alex thinks men weren’t meant to get this high this fast—not even fighter pilots. He gets deep when his mouth dives down to meet Buck’s. His tongue plummets into Buck’s mouth and his hands are as rough in Buck’s hair as Buck’s hands are on his ass. His dick presses against Buck’s stomach and Alex wants to know, “You want me?” It was tough work to get his mouth free to ask, and Buck doesn’t take the chance himself. His refusal to make his agreement possible seems to be the only way he wants to give it.

Alex’s undershirt is removed, slowly, like it’s a silk negligee. His dirty shirt feels sensual as it slides off his skin and Alex moans with the sensation. The usual chill of the stale library air is now foreign to their corner. It smells of Alex and Buck only—and it’s warm. Buck breaks away from Alex’s mouth to kiss down his neck desperately to his chest. Alex hasn’t been here long enough to lose all his weight, and Buck is eagerly taking advantage before it’s gone. Gripping Alex’s bare skin like he’s a gift. When his hands loosen, just for a second, Alex wriggles back.

“No, let me hold you," Buck reaches for him, begging.

Alex smiles, amused and proud. "You’re shaking," he notes. Buck’s hands do tremble slightly as they hang in the empty space Alex created. “Here I thought you only like me for my maps.”

Buck lands his shaking hands on Alex’s thighs. “Don’t say that.” Alex had been about to say he was joking but Buck continued on. “You told me what it’s like out there. I like knowing.” He pauses. Gets a contemplative look on his face. “Guess I just like knowing.”

A bell sounds and Alex wrinkles his brows trying to recall what it’s for. Buck sighs, giving Alex’s thighs one last fondle before letting him know that was the dinner bell.

“Not sure I’m hungry.” Alex huffs ruefully as they stand to leave.

“Eat.” Buck orders. He trails his fingers across Alex’s waist, following the guidelines of his belly hair to his treasure trail. “Don’t miss meals.”

Alex feels his face heat up under the attention. “Yes. I won’t.”

Buck nods at this, and now it seems his Major Cleven persona is fully back on. “Don’t dally, Alex.” Alex is about to say yes-sir but Bucks stops him with a quick kiss. “I’ll be looking for you.”

Hiya. Hope you're doing well and having a nice January. Really hope this question isn't too annoying to reply to but lately I've been trying to create references for my OCs so that I can finally share my art with other people. Thing is, I'm completely struggling with creating reference sheets! When I start one, I end up just not knowing what I should add and I either get this feeling that there's not enough or that there is too much unnecessary drawings that are just there to fill space. Sure there's no real right or wrong with these but they never look appealing. I was wondering how that process of creating references is for you, what is it that you think about adding that is important in yours, especially when making one to share with other people. Things you think should be there, basically.

Very very long reply incoming, sorry!! I’d love to help you out with this <3

So what I always make sure to have for my references (especially my comic ones!) is a front/quarter view, side view, and back view!

For example:

Sabrinia here has really wild hair, and from different angles it doesn’t look the same. I made sure to include how her hair looks in the back, and I made it a little transparent to you can see what her outfit looks like behind. (Also obligatory BALD mention lol)

Now, the way I decide what and what not to add to my references is kinda on a whim. As for comic specifically, since I know how to draw these guys from muscle memory I tend to keep it simple.

But, for characters that have a more complicated design, I like to add little footnotes and images showing what I couldn’t show on my turnaround sheet. (I sometimes do this for my comic guys too!)

Another example, I just finished this yesterday actually haha! I redesigned her, and this is what I had to work with:

I sketched out her design and picked colors (I make sure to put them on the side so it’s easier to color pick and see values!)

Then after I liked what I had, I put that sketch on this reference canvas (based on IDW wonderful Sonic ones). I drew lines to matchup her main features/main guidelines, and sketched it out from there.

As I was drawing the side view I realized I needed to have two different back views since her design isn’t totally symmetrical!

I like to add silly expressions to fit the characters vibe in the top for fun! I haven’t done this with my comic ocs yet, just cause I’ve already drawn some expressions in the comic itself so I just go back and cross reference if I need to!

As for all the extra stuff at the bottom…

Looking at her turnarounds I thought the spikes on her wrist cuffs weren’t well seen so I made a quick drawing of those.

When sketching her shoes, I drew the open part with a weird shape and I wanted to include it since the gems covered them up!

Also made sure to have a good ref for her weapon somewhere too. Same with a harness for it!

Didn’t have any expressions of her mouth open, so I wanted to point out her weird teeth! And her eyes are shaped different, so I made sure to also point that out!

Overall, what helps me make references and figure out what and what not to put there is to think about what is important to the design itself. What id do is definitely be sure to have a front (or 3/4 view), side, and back view! If that’s too much just a front and back view are dandy!

For details, if there’s something in the design that sticks out, make sure to have that in the spotlight somewhere!

A Chat Under the Haitang Tree

Happy New Year! I've been practicing on my samsung tab for the whole past week and I wanted to show the culmination of what I've made with this new years art. This is based off of chapter 58 from 2HA where ranwan spent the entire night chatting under the haitang tree for the new years. I'm still not as good on this tab compared to how I am with the Huion, but I think this is pretty satisfactory. The approach is more painterlike in comparison. I do not have the patience for lineart (I've tried) on this, so it's mostly draw loose then clear it up.

The Journey to This Illustration

What else have I done while practicing? Honestly, most of them are ranwan art. Animatic making had made me proficient in drawing Chu Wanning and Mo Ran gahahaha and they're both fun to draw anyway.

At first, I wasn't used to drawing on a samsung tablet, so most of what I've done are doodles. I also spent majority of my time traveling (like since I got home which was an 8 hour bus ride, I had to go travel again for Christmas and back again, and then the day after I had to accompany my mom for another outing).

Day 1 (12/22)

Here, I slept for 4 or so hours, and find myself having to leave at 5AM. I managed to catch a bus ride home (where, unfortunately, one of my friends weren't able to ride because they waited at the wrong stop), and overall the ride was pretty chill. I spent most of my time chatting with my cousin, sleeping, and drawing. Here's some of what I did during the time. Most of it are Chu Wanning because I feel really comfortable drawing him.

Day 2 (12/23)

I didn't have any place I have to travel to yet, so I went out of the house to draw at a cafe. I still didn't feel comfortable coloring so there's none yet >_<

Day 3 (12/24)

Most of Day 3 was spent outside too coz I had to travel again to visit my grandparents. It was also when I started Yuwu (it has been chill so far, and I'm leisurely enjoying it). I didn't draw anything on the tablet.

Day 4 (12/25)

Back to the drawing grind here. I figured it was about time I try out coloring and I did two! While I had to commute again early morning, the whole of my afternoon was spent chilling at home. The notable stuff I did on the tab is this cute animation of Wanning finding a tiny Mo Ran in his gift, and two colored pieces.

The one on the top right I think was a failed attempt. The colors didn't turn out as well as I wanted, and concluded that it was probably because of the background (which was pure white). I changed it to gray and colored like I usually did, and I think it turned out really well.

Day 5 (12/26)

I had to go out and travel again. Most of the stuff I did during this day were doodles.

Day 6, 7, and 8 (12/27-29)

Gonna compile coz I think most of what I did were at cafes and it all blurs together.

Here's where I actually start getting into coloring. The first thing I colored was the bottom left one. I really like how curly the lineart of Mo Ran's hair is, and the individual groups of hair on Wanning's ponytail flow together. Next is the middle left one, which was just me thinking about how ranwan had 8+ years together idk lol. I drew Mo Ran as a midget there, I didn't know he was actually almost the same height as Wanning by book 1 (179 vs 181) so that was uhh lol.

The sketches for the top left and the right image I did the same day, but the coloring for the right image I did last. Top left uses some rejected designs I had back when I was reading 2HA. I thought it'd be a fun creative exercise if I derive myself of official character designs, and create designs based on how I imagined them while reading the book. (That's something worth making a post about.) Specifically, the designs are post-story. That was also when I started rendering a bit.

It was at the right sketch when I thought I could try a rendering a bit more. Like clean up the lines a bit. Still the same process.

(This wasn't done on the Samsung tablet, but here's the height comparison). Mengmeng and 1.0 are a bit out of proportion i know lol.

Day 9 and 10

All of it leads up to the new years drawing at the top. It was tricky trying to render the two characters, because I had to tilt my pen a certain way so the lines made won't be too broad. I spent day 9 doing the sketch and the rough color, spending time on the background too and Day 10 on rendering the characters and polishing the background.

The app I use (Infinite painter) has a built-in playback function which is pretty neat because I always forget to record my drawing process. I ended up changing the background a couple times because I misread the actual scene lol. But yeah here's the process.

Overall, drawing on this tablet is more painterly compared to how I color on PC gahaha. So many brushes to choose from, and almost no keyboard input >_< it's a bit tedious coz I like having my brushes binded on keyboard, and here I have to move my hand around on screen and sometimes I end up pressing the shortcut for the undo button. But yeah, I think I can make more colored art outside now. Learning to get used on this is fun.

AHHHHH this is such a good question.. I always want to say a real pencil in my hand is the way to go even after all these years doing digital art but last year I don't think I did any traditional art at all... It honestly makes me so sad that the only time I do any traditional work is during Inktober or Sketchvember.. when the months roll by I just think, "ah darnit another year goes where I only do traditional work as part of a game." Man I just think traditional is when I'm at ease and most relaxed bc I can just feel fluid if I'm drawing for fun, but with digital you can really clean things up to look really good. A part of the reason I enjoy doing the yearly holiday cards when I ACTUALLY SEND ANY is that it's a time I can do special traditional art for my friends to make them really happy. I think I'm good at digital art but am even better with traditional, but I don't think I can say that anymore if I haven't really touched a pencil in recent years. It might be the opposite now, my traditional work lacks the precision and finesse of my digital work but since I have art supplies I PAID for and HAVE TO USE I have a tendency to experiment with traditional media more. I am STILL buying loads of art supplies to this date..

9. How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?

HNGNGHGH it really depends.. Ah, average day? Hmmm when I'm on fire I might say at least 2 hours a day, whether it's to work on a quick doodle or to continue a more time-consuming piece. There are days where I might spend 4-6 hours. The craziest for me for one day might be 8 hours-- with or without breaks in between.

12. Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?

YEAH ABSOLUTELY ALWAYS it's no secret. I always did the circle/stick man base but when I really got into One Punch Man in 2012 or so when Murata-sensei was streaming, I noticed he skipped that step and went straight to defining muscles, limbs, faces, etc. I thought DANG if I could do that I could draw SO MUCH FASTER and SO MUCH MORE!! It was horrible at first and I hated a lot of my art while I was trying out this new thing but now I'd say I'm fairly decent and it does get me to do more art faster.

Anyway! My process is to start with a pose idea. The timing on this varies, but I usually thumbnail with little stick figures until something sticks. If there is one I like I might blow it up or redraw it on a larger scale. I always start with the face shape and eyes first. It helps me get a good idea on how to frame the hair. I cannot feel I am drawing the character until I get this right. I'll then detail until I color. I skip a line art step most of the time because I clean my sketches along the way ((I KNOW, RISA)). If it's a piece I'm serious about being a "best" I might seriously do a line art layer but I usually have trouble because I can never find a comfortable inking pen AND I feel line art makes my art suddenly stiff. I used to never color but I try to do it as much as I can because I have always admired my friends for their bold colors and I told myself that that's my own personal goal to have more colored work.

15. How long does an average piece take you to complete?

If it's a fairly simple/rushed drawing that is semi-refined that can take me about 2-4 hours? I can get a lot done in just 1 hour as well thanks to all those Mob Psycho 100 60 min challenges. But if I just take my time drawing something that I don't particularly hate I'd say 2 hours is a good average. For a more detailed one with backgrounds or groups or lots of detail, that could take me at least 8 hours of actually drawing. The hours spent into references/getting ideas/thinking of a background add to an illustration's turnaround time even if I am not actually moving a pen.

Very very rough WIP of my man 2D for a redraw of a redraw of a screenshot of a virtual live performance. Sharing on here bc I don't want this to get much attention and I wanna gush about him a lil. Old art + screenshot and f/o gushing under the cut.

AAAA the improvement from the sketch alone holy cowwww. The drawing is August of 2019, so nearly 4 years ago. Very excited to finish this one, hopefully I can tomorrow.

Anyways-- I wanna talk about my history of listening to Gorillaz and my slowburn crush on 2D. Plus a little of what I've figured out about my S/I.

2D is one of my older F/Os by technicality. I never actively self shipped with him until recently, but I've had that big crush on him since I was a freshman in high school. So around 2016/17. I was vaguely aware of Gorillaz before then, but only because my cousins had shown me two different music videos. One of Clint Eastwood, and the other of Devil Inside by Slipknot. Watching those back-to-back + having a phobia of eyes did not turn out well and for the longest time I was terrified of 2D because my cousins told me he didn't have eyes at all. I later learned from a friend I met in my freshman year that isn't entirely true, his eyes just have eight ball fractures and are drawn to look like they're gone. I had also apparently confused the Slipknot music I had heard for the Clint Eastwood video, so that friend made me watch the video again with them and I realized I actually really like the song lol. From there I fell down the whole rabbit whole for Gorillaz and 2D quickly became one of my favs. Russell is sorta still my fav because I'm biased towards drummers, but Stu is a very close second LOL. I read a bunch of fanfiction, mainly X Readers of him on Wattpad. Fun fact, this is also around the time I started seriously questioning my gender, and started reading/writing male readers to explore those feelings lol.

So then I listened to their music and doodled them occasionaly when I was first starting art in my sophomore year, but I didn't really get involved in the fandom or anything besides reading fanfiction on Wattpad. 2017 was peak for me since they dropped Saturnz Barz after years of silence from Plastic Beach. Despite all the new music I was constantly listening to, my mini-hyperfixation on the bad quickly faded. Two years passed before I realized it, it was suddenly 2019 and I was a fresh high school graduate with a massive hyperfixation on Splatoon. Phase 5 had concluded a few months prior and my brain decided it was a great time to have a little redux of my Gorillaz hyperfixation.

I started drawing them, mainly 2D, more often and got very into the fandom on Insta and Tumblr. Met some pretty chill people, a few of whom I'm still mutuals with on my main :D!! But the entire time, I was still in my "self ship is cringe" phase and kinda ignored anything I was feeling towards 2D. I was still reading and contemplating making my own X Reader fics of him on Wattpad, but that was all irrelevant to me I guess. Eventually that hyperifxation on them passed and I returned to my regularly scheduled Splatoon hyperfix.

Fast forward to another year later in 2020 and into 2021, I finally embraced my cringe and started self shipping again for the first time since I was like 9. First with Erik from Dragon Quest, then several Persona characters (most importantly Adachi lol), then Happy Chaos, and I've been jumping around from crush to crush I've had since I was a kid. Very good for the soul, 10/10 would reccomend reconnecting with childhood F/Os lol. As of a few months ago I starting thinking of 2D as a potential F/O before officially naming him a romantic F/O!!

All this time I've been tossing around different ideas for a self insert, but haven't really explored it until I named him my F/O. I'm still figuring that stuff out, but I at least know they knew each other before D-Day! Not too sure about Phase 1 stuff, but I do know they'll reappear in Stu's life during the band's break between Phases 1 and 2 and maybe they start dating each other by the time Phase 2 does roll around OwO. And then my insert also gets kidnapped by Murdoc and gets shipped off to Plastic Beach with 2D. They become the stand-in drummer for the band while Russ is MIA. Then for Phase 4 and beyond? I have no idea lol.

Sorry for just rambling about this, but I like sharing the origin stories for my F/Os and 2D is one of those that has a very long and somewhat complicated story. I've liked him a lot since I really got into the band's music, but I was so absorbed into cringe culture and avoiding being called cringe that I just ignored any potential story I could tell between us. Plus all the gender dysphoria and less than stellar reactions I got from my friends didn't exactly help matters lol. But I'm no longer an egg, those unsupportive friends are out of my life, and I am cringe and I am free babey!!!
