If someone is vehemently against public discussions of harm to something they've said publicly, demanding minorities speak to them privately, there's probably a reason for that
There's a reason why "come speak to me in my office", "we'll speak in my study", or things like "we'll talk about this later [when others aren't around]" scare people when it's said after they point out a fault. If someone's comfortable saying this in public, what could they say privately? What will they do? It's already a silencing of abuse
Things are a lot easier to twist into your favour when no one has proof. Don't let yourself be taken to a metaphorical second location

People don't realize how it can even form a cycle, how your reactions can teach people that pointing things out isn't safe.
If every vulnerable, energy consuming attempt to convey your emotions is met with expectation or even demand to then extend further energy to sooth the person who harmed you (instead of being soothed), you'll probably end up feeling that it just isn't worth the effort to try. It's a double whammy
In the long run, it can even end up traumatizing others. The denial of the opportunity to have any grievances comforted and being made to feel that it's all your fault—that maybe you're just making too big a deal of it, maybe you were actually the mean one—can be incredibly disheartening and confusing. It fosters guilt and shame, with the confusion often leading to self-doubt, such as questioning your perspective, feelings, memories, and even morals. Once enough doubt has set in, the rationalization follows, eventually accepting the behavior as normal, believing that you are the issue, not them
If you can't handle the slightest bit of criticism without basically breaking down and talking about how you're such a terrible and disgusting person (and even threatening suicide!), then you need to fucking work on that because it should not be everyone else's responsibility to drop a conversation to soothe and comfort you, especially after you've hurt them.
Mental illness is horrible, I know, and I'm not telling you to magically get rid of those feelings, but there's ways to work through them on your own or in another space without putting other people on the spot and forcing them to walk on eggshells around you.

Burning Rotten Bridges
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#mianmian#nie mingjue#jin guangyao#JGY is nothing but outwardly calm and carrying on his duties as the chair for the meeting#but in that small pause after Nie Mingjue commemorates Mianmian for leaving...you can feel the tension.#Because Nie Mingjue comes from a place of privilege. He's always been in a position where his legitimacy and political standing-#-were never challenged. He didn't have to fight for respect. He was born into this world respected.#For people like Mianmian and JGY who clawed their way up from the bottom...this is a huge deal.#Truth be told I have a lot of things to say about what it means and feels to be in a position where leaving is messy.#There are times where the situation is bad but to leave means that those years of your life will have been for nothing.#That all the other suffering incurred will be fruitless. So you just *keep going*. Because it *has* to be worth it.#Because going back to what you were before is even more terrifying than the hell you are boiling in.#My concrete example for this is post-grad academia.#Because that cohort will have spent over a decade pursuing a goal and leaving means...well...it means throwing away those years.#It means losing (likely nearly all) your connections. It means going into debt you'll never pay off.#It means putting up with some pretty heinous abuse from your supervisor because what are you suppose to do? Leave?#Leaving is for those with the privilege to have options.#And even if you do have options...#Ultimately we would rather love the pain we know than risk the unknown. Hoping it's worth it one day.#With that mindset established; never say JGY should have just left like Mianmian. He couldn't. This was what he dedicated his life to.#He never had the option. Even if it seemed like he did - no he did not. He never conceived this ending ever happening for himself.

I saw a post that said “Dragon Age discourse walked so that Baldurs Gate 3 discourse could run” and that’s absolutely false. Dragon Age discourse sprinted, foaming at the mouth, so that BG3 discourse could skip happily through a meadow

Rewatching Adventure Time, I can't help but think so much Princess Bubblegum discourse would be non-existent if people actually watched the show to completion instead of randomly hyperfocusing on some of PB's bad deeds.
There's a very bizarre and commonly held belief that Princess Bubblegum did terrible things and got away with it, that nobody held her accountable. When the show makes a point, repeatedly, that Princess Bubblegum is well meaning but deeply flawed, and to some characters, straight up evil.
I see fans point to "The Cooler" a lot as proof that PB is an irredeemable character, and while it is her worst act in the entire show.... I think people forgot that that was the point. Near the end of the episode she stops spying on people in Ooo because it was an invasion of privacy. In another episode she's called out for exploiting some aliens and lets them go. She feels ashamed that her own people are terrified of her. She loses her entire kingdom, and realizes she needs to get her shit together.
I'm pretty critical of shows that are way too lenient on flawed female characters but Princess Bubblegum isn't one of them. She's awesome, and heavily misunderstood.

Roy: hey. Oof, that looks bad
Jason: yeah, well, you know how it is-
Roy: yeah, Gotham, am I right?
Jason: -Batman doesn't kill you but he hits hard
Roy: 😀 what?

"are men in danger of being harmed just because a woman said something mean?"
Do emotional and physiological abuse mean nothing to you?
Also, have you never heard of white women's tears, where Black men are often in danger due to what a white woman says?

me whenever i see people write off annabeth as an annoying and controlling and crazily jealous girlfriend with anger issues. understanding that the foundation of the rhetoric is based off of annabeth's behavior toward percy and rachel is tbotl and tlo. except annabeth's behavior in those books is soley due to the surplus amount of traumatic experiences she's had. ranging from her parents neglecting to care for her well-being when spiders attacked her in the middle of the night as a seven-year-old. to watching everyone she's ever dared to care for die, abandon, or leave her for a better option. so it's much more likely than annabeth was expressing great mental and emotional distress during a period of her life where it was uncertain if the boy she loved would drop dead on his sixteenth birthday. on top of having to uphold a reputation as the best strategist at camp half-blood and devise a plan to fight in a war and save the world before she's a sophomore in high school. so the notion that annabeth is an abusive and toxic individual lacks the consideration that maybe she was just a child forced to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders at all times.

Maybe the reason Sansa comes off as a meek doormat while she’s married to Tyrion is not because she’s a red pilled tradwife, it’s because she’s scared of getting caught for planning her own escape. It’s established within the first few paragraphs of Tyrion’s pov after the wedding that that’s a terrified 12 year old prisoner of war child bride who’s fooling a whole, grown husband and the entire red keep that she’s a little too devotional and absolutely not plotting her freedom in a fortress full of spies, soldiers and noble powerhouses, that too successfully. She’s not concerned that Tyrion’s peas are overcooked, she’s deliberately trying to put up an act so that her cover isn’t blown. She’s outsmarted Tyrion Lannister of all people, and you can die mad about it.

Friendly fire on @elmaxlys ! I have been thinking of making this since the very second I saw your hairdresser OC. Too bad we ended up on the same team but that's what friendly fire is for haha. This is also to congratulate the 6 points you gained our team alone! We would not be winning right now otherwise :D
