The Sukhoi Su-57 is Russia's most advanced stealth fighter jet. Only about two dozen are operational. It is known that Russia has used these jets to launch Kalibr missiles into Ukraine.
So Ukraine became the first country ever to destroy a Su-57 – and there's reason to believe that it may have taken out TWO of them.
It’s increasingly clear a Ukrainian drone badly damaged, and possibly destroyed, a Russian air force Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter in a Saturday raid on Russia's Akhtubinsk State Flight Test Center in southern Russia 365 miles from the Russia-Ukraine border. And it’s possible a second Su-57—out of around two dozen Su-57s the Russian air force has acquired since the type’s first flight in 2010—was also damaged in the raid. “There is preliminary information that there could be two Su-57 aircraft affected,” Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian intelligence agency, said in a Sunday interview.
The Su-57 is roughly the equivalent of the US F-22.
As recently as 2019, there were at least six twin-engine, supersonic Su-57s at Akhtubinsk. Ground crews routinely parked the radar-evading jets out in the open—eliciting a bitter protest from the Fighterbomber Telegram channel, a popular forum for Russian airmen and their boosters. Fighterbomber asked why, 28 months into Russia’s wider war on Ukraine, the air force hasn’t built hardened shelters for its most precious aircraft—including the Su-57 that Fighterbomber itself confirmed suffered shrapnel damage during the Saturday drone raid.
You read that correctly. These very expensive and relatively rare planes were parked outside in the open during wartime when Ukrainian drones have already struck more than twice the distance into Russia of the Akhtubinsk air base. The Russian military continues to prove that it simply is not very bright.
Meanwhile, Ukraine gets increasingly resourceful and innovative.
But the Ukrainians strike Russian airfields more effectively than the Russians strike Ukrainian airfields—thanks in large part to Ukraine’s growing inventory of long-range strike drones and the relative sluggishness of Russian decision-making. Ukrainian air force commanders frequently, sometimes more than once a day, scatter their jets across a vast network of small airfields and even highway airstrips—all in a preemptive effort to complicate Russian raids on parked planes. Russian air force commanders do no such thing. When Russian jets change bases, it’s usually the result of a long-planned move—often in response to particular bases repeatedly coming under attack by Ukrainian rockets or drones.
Here are before and after satellite photos of one of the wrecked Russian Su-57s.
Tumblr media
^^^ Date format is DD/MM/YYYY. The Ukrainian captions simply identify the aircraft and point out burn marks and debris from the explosion. You don't have to annihilate an expensive aircraft to make it unusable.
Russian disinformation, as parroted by both extreme right and extreme left in Europe, often goes like this...
"OMG, there's no way Ukraine can ever defeat Russia with its unlimited resources."
We know that those "unlimited" resources are unable to provide almost a quarter of Russia's rural population with toilets. 🚽
Those Putin stooges want you to ignore how Russia has suffered frequent military humiliations, demonstrated bizarre military incompetence, and has lost hundreds of thousands of troops in the past 28 months. Russia, or rather its predecessor the USSR, lost the 1979-1989 Afghan invasion. Russian incompetence certainly did not vanish 35 years ago when that war ended.

“We were able to find the right approach to the man, we were able to create the conditions to take out the whole family unnoticed, and ultimately create the conditions so that he was able to overrun this aircraft with a crew that did not know what was going on. When they realized where they had landed, they tried to run away. Unfortunately, they were destroyed; we would have liked to [take them] alive, but we have what we have.” [...] While Budanov said that Kuzminov's crew members were killed, implying it was by Ukrainian forces, Kuzminov said he did not know what happened to them. "I had two crew members with me," he said, according to a translation of the Tuesday press conference by Ukrainska Pravda. "We did not have any weapons with us. Our pilots fly unarmed." "No one could resist me since the navigator had no helicopter piloting skills," he added. "I reassured the guys, telling them everything was fine, good people lived here, and nothing would go wrong. But they got afraid, began behaving aggressively and eventually rushed out of the helicopter towards the border. I don't know their fate, but the media reports suggest they may have been killed."
[...] Like Budanov’s earlier comments, Kuzminov’s account differs greatly from that of the Russian Fighterbomber Telegram channel, which as we previously noted, acknowledged the aircraft crossed into Ukraine and that two crew members were killed. But it tried to spin the incident as one involving a Russian helicopter pilot who lost his bearings and flew to Ukraine accidentally.

Ukraine's electronic warfare: turning the tide in Kursk against Russian drones
Ukraine's large-scale offensive in the Kursk region has left Russia struggling, revealing major issues in countering Ukraine's movements. The primary obstacle for the Russian forces has been the potent "jammers" employed by the Ukrainian troops during their advance. Russian military aviation blogger, Fighterbomber, highlighted these challenges.
Fighterbomber confirmed that a critical element of Ukraine's offensive is an exceptionally powerful electronic warfare system (EWS). This EWS has not only blinded the Russian Federation's on-ground intelligence but also incapacitated their strike drone capabilities. "Due to the swift progress of the long-anticipated offensive, employing the UMPKs en masse in the Kursk region remains unfeasible. The 'ping' delay is substantial. All drones (except those using fiber optics) have crashed (turns out, it's possible), so spotting targets requires outdated methods, like binoculars," stated Fighterbomber.
The UMPKs, or guided multifunctional gliding complexes, are aerial munitions controlled over long distances through satellite communications or other guidance methods. The phrase "ping delay" refers to the lag in data transmission between the operator and the device. To operate UMPKs effectively, a fast and stable connection is necessary, which has been severely undermined by Ukraine's EWS.
In response to the situation, Fighterbomber has engaged in a heated exchange with other Z-channels, which claim everything's functioning well in the Kursk region with no issues. A profane exchange unfolded. "It only blew up with the drone producers and their minions. The money is at risk," retorted Fighterbomber to their critics.
On the morning of January 5, Ukraine's Forces initiated a massive offensive in the Kursk region, moving under the protection of EWS systems across several directions, including towards Kursk.
The Ukrainian command remains silent on the situation. Currently, almost all information flows in from Russian war channels, painting a contradictory picture. Kremlin-aligned propagandists claim the offensive is nearly suppressed, suggesting Ukrainian forces have been defeated. Meanwhile, more independent military correspondents report movements of Ukrainian forces and the capture of several settlements.

Global Hawk.
После чего с параметрами полета Global…

Ukrainian Air Force shot down 3 Su-34 fighter-bombers in just one day
Fernando Valduga
On December 22, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that it shot down three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers in the southern sector of the country, a boost for Ukraine after a series of military setbacks.
This was considered one of its most successful operations against Russian air power since the beginning of the war. A spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force called it "a brilliantly planned operation".
Tumblr media
The Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, reported about this, said that the jets were shot down near noon on Friday.
Russia would be using the jets to launch cruise missiles and guided bombs against Ukrainian-controlled cities on the western bank of the Dnipro River and against Ukrainian soldiers who established a safe position on the eastern side.
The mode of destruction of the fighter-bombers has not been reported and there is no photo or video material that can confirm the loss of the fighter-bombers.
Tumblr media
However, photos of a Russian search and rescue helicopter Mi-8/17 and the landing site of the killed pilots appeared on social networks.
Tumblr media
It is worth mentioning that unconfirmed information about the overthrow of a Su-35 and two Su-34 is circulating online. An unconfirmed image that intends to show Patriot missiles being launched against the three Su-34s is also circulating online.
Tumblr media
The Russian propagandist Fighterbomber (Ilya Tumanov) indirectly confirmed the slaughter of an aircraft on his Telegram channel at 1:54 p.m., saying that the crew was being searched.
Later, at 2:14 p.m., he said that all the crew, alive and dead, were taken. He believes that the preliminary cause of the loss of planes was a Patriot air defense system.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the Patriot system would be deployed in Ukraine by the end of 2023.
Tumblr media
Developed by Lockheed Martin and RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies, the Patriots have successfully taken down some of Russia's most advanced missiles. But the stocks of interceptor missiles, which can cost millions of dollars each and take years to manufacture, have been exhausted by Russia's continuous attacks.
Tumblr media
In an additional boost, Japan said on Friday that it would supply Patriot missiles to the U.S., strengthening global stocks. Tokyo is expected to transfer dozens of interceptor missiles from its own supplies, starting in the first quarter of 2024, according to a U.S. authority.
On Friday, the Dutch government said it began preparations to deliver to Ukraine 18 U.S.-designed F-16 fighters, without providing a schedule. The delivery of the jets will still require an export license and that Ukraine meets the personnel and infrastructure criteria.

Events in Israel and Gaza have overshadowed news of Ukrainian progress in driving out Russian invaders.
Ukraine used M39 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles provided by the US for the first time against two targets in Ukraine occupied by Putin's forces. One of those targets was an airfield in Berdyansk on the coast of the Sea of Azov.
The result was “one of the most serious strikes of all time” in Russia’s 21-month wider war on Ukraine, according to Fighterbomber, a popular Russian Telegram channel. The Ukrainian military claimed it destroyed a combined nine helicopters in the Berdyansk attack and a simultaneous raid on a facility in Luhansk, farther to the east. Ukrainian analysis team Frontelligence Insight compared high-resolution Planet Labs satellite imagery from September with lower-resolution imagery from Wednesday broadly to confirm the military’s claim. Frontelligence Insight scrutinized imagery from Sept. 29 and pinpointed four Kamov Ka-52 and one Mil Mi-24 helicopters parked on the northern apron at the Berdyansk base. The group then scrutinized imagery from Oct. 17—and found scorch marks where those five helicopters should have been.
Here's how ATACMS work.
The M39 Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, is a two-ton, 13-foot ballistic missile with a solid rocket motor and a warhead containing 950 grenade-size submunitions. Fired by a tracked or wheeled launcher, the 1990s-vintage missile ranges as far as 100 miles under inertial guidance. An M39 usually should strike within 50 yards or so of its aim-point. This isn’t super-accurate by modern standards, but it’s accurate enough considering that the M39 is an area weapon.
Why the attack on Berdyansk is important.
And now the Russians must make some difficult choices in order to protect their surviving rotorcraft from follow-on ATACMS raids. “The impact of this devastating attack is undeniable,” Frontelligence Insight noted. “It will likely disrupt helicopter operations in the south of Ukraine for some time, compelling the Russians to adjust their logistics and the operations of nearby helicopter bases.”
Russia can no longer count on distance to keep its helicopters safe. Not being able to use helicopters reliably will hurt its operations as Ukrainian forces gradually push south to cut off occupied Crimea by land from Russia.

Wars don't go away because other wars break out or because people in third countries get bored with them. Putin has no fucking business in Ukraine and his invasion is a direct threat to the eastern flank of America's NATO allies.

BBC report :
Ukraine's military says it shot down three Russian fighter jets on Friday in the south of the country.
Three Su-34 fighter bombers were shot down over Kherson region, the Ukrainian air force announced.
President Volodymr Zelensky thanked the servicemen who had downed the planes, saying the incident had occurred in war-torn Kherson Region.
Moscow has not commented on the claims, but influential Russian bloggers have reported losses.
In his nightly address on Friday, Mr Zelensky said the downing of the planes would make Russian pilots attacking targets in Ukraine aware that "none of them [would] go unpunished".
He also said he had spoken to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte about the future delivery of F-16 jets, as well as a new EU support package.
Russia has not commented on the reported loss of its jets, but Fighterbomber, an influential Russian war blogger, reported the loss of an unspecified number of planes, saying they had probably been downed by US-made Patriot missiles.
Both surviving and dead crew members were recovered, the blogger added.
Another blogger, Voenniy Osvedomitel, said the planes had probably been used to drop glide bombs on a Ukrainian position on the Russian-controlled side of the Dnipro River.
Ukraine is facing an ammunition shortage as it continues to fight occupying Russian forces, following Moscow's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Kyiv's counter-offensive ground to a halt at the start of the winter, and Republican representatives in the US - by far Ukraine's largest military backer - have been reluctant to further fund Ukraine's war effort.

Ukraine's maritime drones redefine Black Sea warfare: a strategic blow to Russia
Ukraine's military has dealt a significant blow to Russian forces in the Black Sea, leveraging unmanned boats armed with air-to-air missiles, effectively turning the tide in the ongoing conflict. The success of these unmanned systems has left Russian occupiers at a loss, forcing the strategic retreat of their naval assets into bays and bases. Russian military blogger Ilya Tumanov writes on the Fighterbomber Telegram channel that the Ukrainian deployment of these armed boats has dramatically shifted the dynamics in the Black Sea.
Theoretically, Russia's forces could target these maritime drones in daylight and fair weather conditions using jet aviation and attack aircraft. However, the Russian fleet is unable to protect itself from these systems in open waters, finding limited defense only in harbors and bases—escalating the sea battle to a new level.
Ukraine's military is poised to advance marine technology, potentially threatening Russian forces with unprecedented systems like drone carriers, electronic warfare configurations, and multiple launch rocket systems. Due to their speed and maneuverability, the drone boats are nearly invulnerable to attacks from other FPV drones or ATGMs.
The feasibility of launching these FPV drones from helicopters is impaired as they are destabilized by rotor wash, coupled with the ongoing threat of them being shot down. Launching from land also limits their reach. As for ships, they risk exposure unless docked. Ukrainian strategy of a "mosquito fleet" appear to have outmaneuvered that of large Russian naval forces in the Black Sea, with unmanned boats taking the lead over small vessels. Additionally, the introduction of underwater drones awaits the resolution of underwater remote-control challenges. A temporary solution to the maritime drone issue might be achievable by disrupting control frequencies, such as Starlink
or those of other satellite communications. Yet, despite three years of war, neither side has succeeded in effectively deploying these tactics. Fiber optic control systems are also developing rapidly.
In a span of just two days, Russian forces lost three Mi-8 helicopters over the Black Sea. Ukraine employed maritime drones armed with R-73 and FPV missiles in their successful strike. News of Ukraine's innovative surface boat, featuring a wide chassis designed to house two R-73 air-to-air missiles, first appeared in May 2024.
