I think the masses will enjoy this story. 😉
now this is a fun story! 😅 first, let's rewind back to the 2020 pandemic days and an account posted the following tweet asking where alexia was in fifa's the best short list of candidates to which alexia responded that surely she's not waiting around for a nomination:
fast forward to the interview with el larguero from yesterday and she's asked about that exchange to which she says:
source: ellarguero on youtube
q: i'm going to remind alexia of a tweet she posted not long ago, 4 or 5 years ago, that someone said where is alexia, when the list of nominees for the ballon d'or came out and alexia replied on twitter, now x, expecting individual nominations for sure not. and now look.
a: but this has a history, sonia, because it was the moment, i think it was after covid or something like that, and everyone who approached me or on the street or the fans, that this year the ballon d'or, i don't know what. and of course, i didn't think about that. you don't really think, when someone asks you when you were little, you wanted to be a footballer. you don't think about that. so, of course, in the end, i had that so much on repeat that when they told me that, i already answered and closed the file.
but after that, what happened was that the following year was when i won it. so it was like, well, from not being nominated to winning it.

It’s so funny to see who watches women’s football when the Ballon d’Or nominees came out. The amount of people in comment sections saying Sam Kerr should win was astronomical and comical considering she had a mediocre season at Chelsea and barely played in the World Cup. All respect to her, but she doesn’t win this by FAR. Any women’s football fans know there really is only one true winner, or should be anyway. Aitana Bonmati is the only person who should come away at the end of the day with this trophy.

Stop lying about Sam Kerr. If she would have had the help every player needs, she would have scored even more goals. And even without that, being left isolated for much of the season, she managed to score several season saving goals.
Perhaps the way I worded this was wrong. I think Sam Kerr is one of the best strikers in the world, possibly even the best. She’s phenomenal, and you’re right. If she had the support and structure, she probably would have scored many more goals this season AND she still scored quite a few. I say mediocre as compared to other seasons she’s had. And with however good she is, her stats do not compare for this season at all with Bonmati’s, who’s number of trophies for the season don’t even begin to demonstrate her vitality for Barca. She deserves the Ballon d’Or.
