Erwin Rommel
Erwin Rommel (1891-1944) was a German field marshal who gained fame as a tank commander in the Fall of France in 1940 and then as the commander of the Afrika Korps in North Africa, where he gained numerous victories. Known as the 'Desert Fox' for his daring tactics, Rommel was obliged to commit suicide when suspected of involvement in the plot to kill the leader of Nazi Germany Adolf Hitler (1889-1945).
Early Life
Erwin Rommel was born into a middle-class family on 15 November 1891 in Heidenheim an der Brenz, southern Germany. His father was a mathematics teacher, a subject Erwin showed a talent for when he was not cycling and skiing. Keen to study engineering and perhaps join the Zeppelin airship company, Erwin ended up joining the army in July 1910, specifically, the 6th Württemberg/124th Infantry Regiment. In the German system, future officers joined the ranks to gain their first experience of military life. Rommel earned his sergeant stripes and an insight into the private's life, which would serve him well as a commander throughout his career. Completing his officer's training at the War Academy of Danzig (modern Gdańsk) in early 1912, Lieutenant Rommel served in the infantry regiment he had first joined in 1910.
By the time the First World War (1914-18) broke out, Rommel was a platoon leader. One biographer memorably describes the young officer as "the perfect fighting animal, cold, cunning, ruthless, untiring, quick of decision, incredibly brave" (quoted in Boatner III, 462). During the conflict, Rommel won both the 2nd and 1st class versions of the Iron Cross. He was next assigned to a special group of mountain troops where he served as a company commander. Here he learnt the value of mobility in modern warfare. For his role in capturing Monte Matajur near Caporreto in the Italian Alps in October 1917, Rommel gained another medal, this time the Pour le Mérite (Prussia's highest decoration), one of only two he would proudly wear for the rest of his life, the other being the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds (the highest German decoration). By now a captain, Rommel saw out the war as a staff officer.

Here is a floor plan to better orient yourself to the floorplan of the Imperial Winter Palace that I used. I will show The Neva Enfilade of rooms 192 (The Anteroom), 191 (Nicholas Hall), 190 (Concert Hall), 193 (Fieldmarshal's Hall), 195 (Armorial Hall), 197 (Military Gallery of 1812)
Tumblr media
192 The Anteroom-it formed the processional exit of the Neva enfilade, and presented their guests with a choice, either to descend the Jordan staircase and exit the palace, or to turn right and continue through the next enfilade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
191 Nicholas Hall - Originally known simply as the Great Hall, in 1855 a large equestrian portrait of the late tsar was hung from the wall, and the hall was renamed the Nicholas Hall. This hall served as the setting for many imperial balls and receptions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
190 Concert Hall- As the name implies, this hall was used to host concerts, balls and grand receptions. On occasions the concert Hall would be reserved for the highest-ranking guests and members of the court as the beginning of any imperial processions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
193 Fieldmarshal's Hall- Built to honour the greatest military leaders of the Russian empire, this great hall and the adjacent throne room are part of the suite of rooms that were created in the western part of the winter palace for Tsar Nicholas I in 1833.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
194 The Small Throne Room- I was unable to make this room as I am limited by the largest lot size, but I still wanted to share a pic. The room was built to commemorate Peter the Great. Lined with crimson velvet and embellished with silver thread, this room was used by diplomats to offer good wishes on New Years Day.
Tumblr media
195 Armorial Hall- this vast chamber was designed for offical ceremonies and grand receptions. It sits between the Miltary Hall and the palace courtyard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
197 Military Gallery of 1812- The gallery is a setting for 332 portraits of generals who took part in the Patriotic Wat of 1812. Destroyed in the famous fire of 1837, all portraits were saved by palace guards thanks to the slow burning of the fire.

I hope you enjoyed my attempts to grasp the same beauty and grandeur as Eduard Hau was able to capture in his watercolours.

Duncan Lacroix stands in front of a statue with the Beatles' song playing in the background, seemingly unaware of what type of statue it is. 🙄
Tumblr media
This is the statue behind Duncan, Statue of Earl Roberts by Harry Bates, which is in Glasgow`s Kelvingrove Park, commemorates one of the most distinguished commanders of the British Empire, Field Marshal Lord Frederick Sleigh Roberts of Kandahar 1st Earl Roberts (1832 – 1914) and is an exact replica of the original which was unveiled in 1898 in Calcutta, India, to acknowledge his actions during the “Indian Rebellion,” 1857-1858 also known as the “Sepoy Mutiny”.
Tumblr media
Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts (30 September 1832 – 14 November 1914) VC KG KP GCB OM GCSI GCIE KStJ PC was one of Britain’s most successful military commanders of the 19th century. British Victorian-era general born in Kanpur (Cawnpore) India served much of his military career there. Kanpur became one of the most important commercial and military stations of British India.
He won important victories during the Second Afghan War and revitalised the British campaign in the Boer War. He rose to Major-General during the Afghan war, 1878-80, and Commander-in-Chief in India, 1885-93.
A Field Marshal is the highest rank in the British Army. The rank of Field Marshal is never awarded except to a General who has commanded an army in war.
Tumblr media
These are words from a recruiting speech given by Lord Roberts:
"I seem to see the gleam in the near distance of the weapons and accoutrements of this Army of the future, this Citizen Army, the wonder of these islands, and the pledge of the peace and of the continued greatness of this Empire" Extract from Lord Robert's speech in Glasgow on 6th May 1913.
Lord Roberts was the protagonist of a national military service and he visited Glasgow on the 5th of May 1913 as part of his duties to the National Service League and aimed to ‘rouse public interest to the necessity of a more adequate home defence.
The University of Glasgow decided confer his honorary degree upon him at a special ceremony, to coincide with Lord Roberts visit at this time. Professor James Moir, Dean of the Faculty of Law, presented Earl Roberts for the degree of Doctor of Laws at the Bute hall.
Tumblr media
Lord Roberts died at the Front of pneumonia at St Omer, France while visiting Indian troops fighting the First World War. He was given a state funeral after lying in state at Westminster Hall (only one of two non-royal family members to do so in the 20th century, the other being Sir Winston Churchill) and was buried in St Paul's Cathedral.

On June 27, 2008, India lost a legend – Sam Manekshaw, the nation's first Field Marshal. Fondly known as "Sam Bahadur" (Sam the Brave), Manekshaw's illustrious career spanned four decades and several wars, including World War II, the Indo-Pak conflicts of 1947 and 1965, and most notably, the decisive 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. His exceptional leadership and strategic mind played a pivotal role in securing India's victory in 1971. Even after his retirement, Manekshaw remained a beloved figure, admired for his courage, wit, and unwavering dedication to the nation.
On this day, many other events also happened in India. Visit our Telegram channel; we post all events at 1:00 PM.

-October 15th, 2024-
The Royal Wedding of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess Anastasia Ivanovna Romanov, daughter of Tsar Ivan VII. Flowers greet those lucky invitees through the palace gates into the courtyard. Come along with me as we get a sneak peek as members of the press.
Tumblr media
a short walk from the gates and we are now at the entrance to the palace.
Tumblr media
Upon entry you must present your invitation or press credentials and check any coats or hats with the waiting footmen.
Tumblr media
We are ushered through toward the Jordan Staircase.
Tumblr media
the exquisite staircase funnels guests to the halls and rooms for the wedding reception and ball.
Tumblr media
at the top of the stairs, we can go left into the Feildmarshals Hall or Right to the anteroom of the Neva Enfilade. Let's proceed right.
Tumblr media
They have turned the anteroom into a lounge for guests who wish to enjoy a cocktail or two.
Tumblr media
The next room is the Nicholas Hall where they are just beginning to dance the first waltz of the night.
Tumblr media
The Concert Hall has a full orchestra conducted by the director of the Royal Music Academy.
Tumblr media
Let's bypass all the guests by using the Portrait Gallery to get to the Fieldmarshals Hall. In the middle of the hall is where we can peek into the Winter Garden of the empress.
Tumblr media
There is an officer on duty in here so for now we can just take a peek.
Tumblr media
They have set the Fieldmarshals Hall as a dance hall for contemporary music for the younger court members who do not wish to participate in the formal ballroom dancing.
Tumblr media
The Armorial Hall has been set up as the banquet hall with tables of meats and sides. The dinner was before the dancing stared and now the tables have been reset for the supper meal at 1:00AM.
Tumblr media
We were allowed to wonder the Gallery of 1812 and see all the pictures of veterans of the War of 1812 against Napoleon.
Tumblr media
Since the Grand Duchess was marrying into the royal family of Italy, the service was a Catholic one. The priest was proud to re-enact how he stood as he performed the sacrament.
Tumblr media
As the sun sets, and we leave the palace having shared the royal stage set for a glorious union for the empire, we wish the happy couple many blessings.

And that was it! For the character of Nora, her destiny began when she learned the truth. She could not stand for her kingdom to be taken. Get yourself wrapped in the hatred. Feel it. Sit with it. Then, like Nora, put a plan into action. It might not be the best and it might not be your plan, but it fuels the fight. #FulfillDestiny #SpringCampaign #Rebellion #MilitaryCampaign #FieldMarshal #FieldGeneral #PalaceCoup #TwoSisters #NarcissistFamily #NarcissistAbuse #KingsAndQueens #WhoWillWin #CivilWar #QueenOfTheDamned #Klenard #Tommel #DressedAsAMan #HidingUnderground #ThisCantBeReal #LocalAuthor #NewBritain https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch17l0AOQnS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Commission Drawing of First Field Marshal of Indian Army- Sam Manekshaw. ❤️ --Took reference of some other pictures to complete this Artwork because the Original picture was too blur for this huge size of 24*30 Inches. --Had he been alive, the condition of the country would probably have been better. “If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha.” ~Sam Bahadur #sammanekshaw #ɪɴᴅɪᴀɴᴀʀᴍʏ #fieldmarshal #sammanekshaw🇮🇳 #armydrawing #indianarmy #armyman #gorkharegiment #sikhregiment #dograregiment #worldwarsoldier #drawingsoldier #lockargil #1971 #vikrambatra #britishregiment https://www.instagram.com/p/CfB3sEzpSN2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
