The Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS), which used to have over 50 members, now manages all conservation, educational, and advocacy activities with only six individuals. Among them, we manage to pay a modest salary to only one person and struggle intensely with a shortage of manpower and budget. In the past year alone, three key members decided to migrate. If we are to dedicate more time and resources to the conservation of the Asiatic cheetah, there is no solution other than preserving the few remaining workforce. It is important to note that extinction won’t wait for political issues to be solved. The current supporters of the ICS have somewhat assisted in keeping ongoing conservation activities in the field, despite sanctions and economic hardships. However, the lack of sufficient manpower for field deployment renders project budgets futile, no matter how much they increase. Therefore, this year, we intend to request assistance for covering the salaries of our conservationists and aim to secure project costs from larger institutions throughout the year since they are generally uninterested in covering human resource expenses. According to our estimates, by Giving Tuesday next year, each full-time expert will incur at least 4100 euros in expenses. This amount covers only the salary and does not include insurance and other expenses, which we hope to obtain from other sources. With every 4,100 euros, we will be able to contract a full-time force for one year. We hope to raise a minimum of 8,200 euros from Giving Tuesday to International Cheetah Day this year. "Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), the Sunshine State’s largest power utility, employs all the people you might expect: electricians, lineworkers, mechanical engineers — and a few you might not. For over 40 years, the company has kept a team of wildlife biologists on staff. Their task? Monitoring the giant carnivorous reptiles that reside in one of the state’s nuclear power plants. 
Saving the American Crocodile
What sounds like a low-budget creature feature is actually a wildly successful conservation story. It goes like this: In 1975, the shy and reclusive American crocodile was facing extinction. Over-hunting and habitat decline caused by encroaching development had pushed its numbers to a record low. By 1975, when it was listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, there were only 200 to 300 left. 
Three years later, in 1978, workers at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant in Homestead, Florida happened upon something that must have made them gasp: a crocodile nest along one of the plant’s 5,900-acre “cooling canals.” Rather than drive the crocs away — perhaps the easiest solution — FPL hired a team of biologists and implemented a Crocodile Management Plan. Its goal was unconventional: provide a suitable habitat for the crocs within the workings of the nuclear power plant, allowing both to coexist.  
Over the course of the next 30 years, FPL’s wildlife biologists monitored nests, tagged hatchlings and generally created a hospitable environment for the reptiles. As it turned out, the plant’s cooling canals provided an ideal habitat: drained earth that never floods on which to lay eggs directly adjacent to water. Over the years, more and more crocs made the cooling canals home. By 1985, the nests at Turkey Point were responsible for 10 percent of American crocodile hatchlings in South Florida. In 2007, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service downgraded the American crocodile’s status from endangered to threatened, singling out FPL for its efforts. 
The program continues to this day. To date, biologists have tagged some 7,000 babies born at the plant. In 2021, there were a record-setting 565 crocodile hatchlings at the Turkey Point facility. 
"Reconciliation Ecology"
Turkey Point’s efforts are an example of what is known in the conservation world as “reconciliation ecology.” Rather than create separate areas where nature or animals can thrive in isolation from humans, reconciliation ecology suggests that we can blend the rich natural world with the world of human activity. Michael Rosenzweig, an emeritus professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona, was a leading force in establishing this concept. The author of Win-Win Ecology: How the Earth’s Species can Survive in the Midst of Human Enterprise, Rosenzweig has pointed out that although human encroachment has typically been considered a threat to biodiversity, the notion that the world must be either “holy” or “profane,” ecologically speaking, is simply not true.  
“In addition to its primary value as a conservation tool, reconciliation ecology offers a valuable social byproduct,” writes Rosenzweig in his first chapter. “It promises to reduce the endless bickering and legal wrangling that characterize environmental issues today.”

Dr. Madhusudan Katti, an associate professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University, was inspired by Rosenzweig when he did his postdoc at Arizona State. Katti has now been in the field of reconciliation ecology for two decades and teaches classes on the subject. “To me it’s finding solutions to reconciling human development with biodiversity conservation,” Katti says.
This common ground between development and conservation can be consciously planned, like FPL managing a crocodile habitat at a nuclear power plant or the state-sponsored vertical gardens and commercial farms on high-rise buildings in Singapore. Other examples include the restoration of the coral reef around an undersea restaurant in Eilat, Israel, or recent legislation in New York City requiring patterned glass on high-rise buildings, making windows more visible to migratory birds. Other planned examples of reconciliation ecology can be more individually scaled: a rooftop garden in an urban setting, modifying your garden to earn a “backyard bird habitat” certification from the Audubon Society, or even just mowing your lawn less often...
Reconciliation Ecology: Nature's Already Doing It Without Us
But there are countless examples of “accidental” incidents of reconciliation ecology, as well. One of Katti’s favorites is the kit fox of California’s San Joaquin Valley. “The kit fox was one of the very first species listed on the Endangered Species Act,” Katti says. Its decline was caused by habitat loss through agricultural and industrial development, as well as the extermination of the gray wolf population, which led to an increase in coyotes. So kit foxes adapted and moved to new habitats. One of these was the city of Bakersfield, California.
“Bakersfield, surrounded by oil pumps, would be the last place you’d expect to find an endangered species,” Katti says. But researchers think kit foxes have migrated to Bakersfield because they actually have more protection there from predators like coyotes and bobcats. “The kit foxes have figured out that if they can tolerate the human disturbance and live with people, then they are safer from all these other predators,” he says. 
Living in the city has led to some interesting behavioral changes. In the wild, for instance, a female kit fox gives birth to her young and raises them by herself in a den. But in the city, researchers have observed multiple females raising their litters together in the same den. “It’s like a form of cooperative breeding,” Katti says. “That wouldn’t happen in the wild.” ...
The Big Picture: How We Think about Conservation
Reconciliation Ecology isn’t just we humans welcoming animals like crocodiles and foxes into our environments, though. It’s also living with nature in a way that most Western societies haven’t done since the Enlightenment. “In recent years, there’s been a recognition that the ‘fortress conservation’ model — keeping nature separated from humans and not thinking of or valuing human-inhabited landscapes — those ideas are outdated,” says Katti.
In fact, in Katti’s classes on reconciliation ecology, he embraces the notion of reconnecting people with their land if they have been unjustly separated from it. “The term reconciliation also applies to all the colonial legacies where both nature and people have been harmed,” Katti says. “For Indigenous communities, the harm done to ecosystems, it’s happened together. So you can talk about addressing both. That’s where a lot of my thinking is at the moment.” 
A hopeful version of this sort of reconciliation is happening in California where colleagues of Katti’s who are tribal members are re-introducing “tribal burns” in some areas. Controlled burns have been a part of many Indigenous cultures for millenia, both as a way to prevent devastating forest fires, but also to encourage the growth of certain plants like hazel that are used for basket-weaving and other crafts. 
“The notion that people don’t belong there and ‘let nature take care of itself’ doesn’t really work,” Katti says. “That’s the legacy of Western European Enlightenment thinking — a divide between human and nature. That is a real faulty view of nature. People have been part of the ecosystem forever.”

jiaoqiu was always dedicated to practicing medicine and by extent and association, cooking - it was more of a passion of his per say. although some might consider it a bit forced or dictated seeing as he did come from a prestigious alchemy commission family.
however, the foxian hadn't always been so lucky in terms of maintaining his dedication to his practice. as rumour has it, jiaoqiu once withdrew from practicing medicine due to a broken heart - it was only a rumour spread around the xianzhou yaoqing because nobody knew the truth, the only thing that was true was that jiaoqiu would make sure it remained as a rumour.
however he would admit in secret, if it hadn't been for general feixiao, he doubted he would've bounced back as quickly as he did - he only returned to the field because he was needed, not because he wanted to. nowadays he probably would call his old self weak and over reactive but in everyday life it was obvious to himself that he clearly still saw himself that way deep down.
it was especially obvious when he started avoiding you, by no fault on your end but it certainly felt that way. it became quite obvious that the pink foxian was trying to avoid you at all costs - you'd see him across a crowd but by the time you got there, he would've disappeared or if you managed to catch him when he's talking with someone, he'd finish his conversation and pretend like you didn't exist.
but what confused you most was the fact that he would randomly change and act like normal. you understood the fact that he could be quite frustrating at times but this seemed a tad extreme. one week he'd act like you two friends, which you were, and the next he'd avoid you like you were mara-struck. all without a single explanation or even acknowledgment at any time, and understandably it started annoying you.
all you wanted was an explanation for why he recently started acting like that sonetimes but it seemed impossible as anytime you brought it up when he was back to 'normal', he'd brush you off and smack the top of your head with his fan before walking away. eventually, you started ignoring him aswell. it wasn't really your fault because jiaoqiu had really worn down your tolerance for his behaviour, some were baffled you put up with his antics for as long as you did.
unfortunately, it only really gave him a reason to annoy you further - he could surprisingly brcome more cunning when he realised you were ignoring him. however jiaoqiu wasn't stupid, he knew why you began ignoring him in the first place. in truth, jiaoqiu was scared, over reactive and weak even. he returned to practice medicine because he had to and so he never exactly had gotten over his reason to withdraw in the first place.
a small while after he returned, he met you and it was like he was falling head over heels all over again. except this time he kept his cunning and mischievous facade up and refused to let himself get hurt again. except he greatly overestimated just how much his heart longed for you and your presence. throughout all his years of counselling and practicing medicine, the only solution he could think of was pushing you away. although this solution only seemed to worsen the problem.
everytime he pushed you away and tried to force you out of his life, he'd make a promise to himself that he needed to do so and that it was for the best. but every single time, there would come a time where he needed you or wanted to see you and then he'd go back to normal and refuse to acknowledge his change in behaviour. he knew how it affected you, it was cruel for the both of you - it must be, even if you didn't know why - but he just couldn't get along without you not could he bare to put his heart on the line again.
now more than ever, jiaoqiu realised that his solution perhaps wasn't the best remedy. he'd pushed you away and now you were reciprocating that action, he needed to figure out another solution.
you had come to find a note addressed to you not too long after you started ignoring jiaoqiu, it wasn't signed but you knew very well who it was from. you'd overheard a couple of people complaining avout the increasing spiciness of jiaoqiu's dishes, to the point where the spiciness wasn't even flavourful. you'd also had people comment on the fact that he trailed after you when you ignored him, constantly vying for your attention by trying his best to garner your attention.
so admittedly you were curious as to what he wanted to tell you, and so you found yourself heading to the location detailed in his note. you found it rather comical to see the usually extremely composed jiaoqiu pacing back and forth. as you got closer you noticed how he stopped and waited, although you could still tell he was somewhat anxious about something because his tail was swishing back and forth.
jiaoqiu looked like he had something to say, but it appeared that whatever it was, was something that proved to be difficult for him to say. he kept going to say something but stopping and he hid rhe lower half of his face with his fan, presumably to hide his embarrassment - you'd never seen jiaoqiu so out of character before. he was practically infatuated with you but he didn't like it, not because if you but because he didn't want to risk another broken heart.

Your eyes adjusted for a moment at the shift in brightness. That gaunt, gangly son of a bitch was backlit by the bus lights and towered over you in the center aisle.
"Move over," He muttered, blunt and singularly unhappy.
With an anguished scan of the rest of the packed bus over your seat, it was clear that there was no other option. You didn't have the luxury of time to think of a better solution than to haul yourself up and slump into the window seat.
"Oh my god." Fell from your lips in a tiny, defeated groan.
Your desolate sighs as you both sat down were nearly identical to one another. The bus started moving. This would be your harsh reality for the next two hours.

After a moment of trying to mess with his new seat, he pressed his hips as far back as they could go and still had one knee out of the aisle -unable to fit behind the chair in front of him- and one clacked against yours.
His size pissed you off. Common sense reminded you that it wasn't his fault, but so often did he make it your problem that it was nearly automatic to become enraged as soon as he inconvenienced you.
With an annoyed huff, you pushed his leg back out of your space with your own.
Narrowed eyes pierced to your direction, but you were already staring out of the window. The parking lot would soon be far away.
He forced his thigh back open, further into your side this time, and matched your infuriated gaze with a signature smirk.
The bus jolted to a stop and it gave you the momentum you needed to return the same proportion of strength. His knee caught on the fabric of the forward seat.
You both stared at each other with the same fierce intensity.
It was a silent, concentrated, but inevitably short struggle for leg space as soon as the bus started moving again.
Of course Tsukishima had you squished against the cold, metal lining of the wall in the end. He wasn't just skinny- this bleak reminder rang in your mind as you gave him one last nasty look over your shoulder. 
He wore a pleased expression. Soft, proud smile and a look that told you, "Nice try."
Right on the heels of his latest ordeal, this seemed all too calculated to you.
Just at the last practice, he made some snotty remark and, to your delight, was overheard by Coach Ukai. Instead of punishing Tsukishima himself, he let you do it. One lap of diving drills shut him up quickly but left him extremely standoffish (somehow more than usual) until now. If he even caught you giving him a passing glance, it was like he radiated a nuclear field of animosity.
The only saving grace from this otherworldly arrogance was that fact that it was still dark outside, and you both wanted sleep. If the sun wasn't even up, how could you keep the motivation to care?
So it faded after ten minutes. He had his eyes closed, arms crossed, but you weren't foolish enough to think him asleep just yet.
You loosened up a bit and reached to the floor for your bag, where your earbuds were-- but it wasn't there.
It was still on the floor under his legs. You sat back up, crushed, but kept watching him to see if there was a chance you could retrieve it in peace.
He wasn't moving. He hadn't for a while, now. Besides, what was he gonna do anyway? Not let you get your bag? Coach Ukai was sitting in front of you; Daichi and Suga were behind you.
So without warning, you carefully reached across his bulky thigh and stretched to grab for your bag on the floor, closer to the aisle.
The journey was more difficult than you thought.
It was like a giant bar you had to push your torso over- and even then it wasn't stable with the bus moving, so you had to use a hand on his upper thigh to steady yourself.
And: even though he was relaxed, it didn't have any give. So when your weight shifted onto your chest, it stung.
Still, the attempt was successful and you dropped back into your seat once more.
While you reached for the pocket your earbuds resided in, you spared a peek in his direction. The sight brought out an uncontrollable chuckle.
His arms were no longer comfortably crossed, but raised up to his chest individually, and his hands were splayed in a natural off-guard response. You caught him just in time to watch him close his mouth into a tight line, though it showed the same amount of emotion an open one would have- and his eyes were wide, somewhat worried, as what was evident to be a million thoughts racing through his head.
It was profoundly clear to you then that he had never known the touch of a woman.
"Wow," You laughed, though it was hardly louder than your whisper, "Relax."
His cover-up was awkward and rushed. "You could've just asked me to get it."
He faced away from you, arms crossing once more, but his shoulders were raised and he even moved his leg further towards himself.
As surprised as you were that you found this reaction to be so endearing, maybe even cute, you were more surprised that you wanted to keep eliciting it from him. The embarrassment made him redeemable, in some way.
"Why is it such a big deal?" You grinned, putting in your earbuds.
It was too often that this was the other way around. He couldn't exactly handle what he dished out, and that piqued your interest.
His head whipped around to deliver a merciless look, but when he landed on your small, intrigued smile, he found that he didn't have the strength.
His face twitched with effort for a moment. No shitty remark? No scowl for you? Not even a frown?
He turned to the aisle and by the time he came up with an answer, you were already starting to fall asleep against the window.

I've heard people talk about the Themes of Across the Spiderverse, and about how "You can't have your cake and eat it too," and about how their excited to see how Miles chooses between saving his dad and being Spider-man, but I don't think that's actually the theme of the movie at all.
Miles himself says that you can have your cake and eat it too, if you have two cakes. I think a lot of people write this line off after the scene where he literally tries to bring two cakes to his dad's party and they both get ruined, but that, in my opinion, is the point. You can have two cakes, but you can't carry them alone.
Look at what happens in Mumbhatten. Pavitr tries to save his girlfriend and her father, he tries to have both cakes, and it Works! But only because Miles stepped in and helped. Or later when Miles escapes Miguel's force-field. He only manages that thanks to Hobie's advice. Or what about the end of the film when Miles is stranded in the wrong dimension, with no way to get back. The only way he'll get home in the third film is because his friends are coming to get him, who are themselves only in a position to help because Hobie provided them with Home-brewed Multiverse Watches.
That's the core theme of the film, Community; how instead of working alone and being forced to accept the most optimal compromise, we can work together and find a better path forward. That's why the Spider Society are the film's villains. Because they've built and entire secret base, full to bursting with the greatest Spider-people in existence, and yet they've sworn off helping each other.
They have super-scientists from every branch of reality in there. They have hyper-advanced technology. They have nigh-unlimited resources and manpower. And yet, none of them are trying to find a solution to the Canon Events, none of them are trying to stop these tragedies from befalling yet more spiders. They all just sit back and say "This is how it must be, and there is nothing that can be done to change it." No, actually, it's worse than just sitting there and doing nothing, they actively intervene to ensure these horrific events take place.
That's why Miles is able to evade all of them. Because, despite their numbers, none of them are working together, none of them are fighting as a team. And that's why, in Beyond the Spiderverse, Miles will get both cakes. Because he'll have a team backing him up.

“so good to hear from you mr. nanami kento. the way you’ve been, you’d almost forget that i made up this whole jujutsu technology thing.”
nanami put a hand up to his temple, realizing that he had forgotten just how much of a pain in the ass his friend turned superior was.
gojo satoru was notorious for revolutionizing the technology field with his creations. jujutsu tech was a frivolous venture — one that he had began to prove to their inner circle of friends and investors that he was truly, one of the most innovative entrepreneurs of all time.
of course, when the load and expectations became quite much, he decided to stick to the press and marketing area and left most of the operations to kento.
“since when did you entertain relations with atlantis solutions?” he sighed, “and i want the straight answer. not some bullshit.”
“ah, i see you’ve met the stunning ceo then. what’s your impression?” from his tone, nanami can practically feel the smirk from gojo across the line.
“answer my question or i will be forced to come and seek you out in person.”
“so stern nanami,” gojo laughs. “look, the only reason i agreed to the deal is because atlantis solutions has the software knowledge we need to expand. there is no reason we shouldn’t meet that profit margin. plus, you need to get around a little.”
“what?” he asks.
“admit it,” gojo laughs again, “they’re your type.”
“i do not mix personal matters with business,” he responds, trying not to think of yesterday’s encounter.
you, soaked in the rain, clothes clinging to soft skin, lips plush and so innocently asking for a ride home — only to be a candidate for taking over both of your companies.
“yes, absolutely your type,” gojo concludes all on his own. “go to that meeting and be yourself.”
with that, gojo drops the call, only moments before his secretary walks in.
“mr. nanami,” she says, “it’s time for the meeting. the atlantis solutions ceo is already in conference room three.”
“of course,” he says, unsurprised that you’re in that room and his heart’s already picked up pace.
the walk to the conference room is agonizing. with every step he attempts to strategize, wondering if he will truly be able to measure up to you. you’re formidable….and distracting, two things that will mess up the focus and clarity he needs to be the ceo that his company needed.
when he walks in, the breath is almost stolen from his lungs when he sees you again. somehow, in the forty five minutes that you’d been gone, you’d managed to make yourself even more stunning than usual.
he supposed you came to him in some state of undress, if how you looked now was your normal presentation.
he took his seat on the other side of the table, looking at his papers and doing everything he could not to look at you until he couldn’t anymore.
“hello there kento,” you say, and he’s winded by the way his first names leaves your lips.
say it again, his thoughts nearly beg, but he regains his composure.
“let’s begin our negotiations.” he says, “starting with this. atlantis solutions ceo must work at our office headquarters if this deal is to go through. i do not want our operations being separate if we are in a business venture together.”
your gasp gives him the confidence he needs to continue.

My personal Julius Root headcanon timeline.

1400s- Julius is born 1st of April 1400. At this point Turnball Root would already be a captain in Recon and starting his criminal career. Turnball would've done well in school and been well liked so I think Julius' parents would've had high expectations for him. I don't think he ever really measured up to those expectations. 1.
Julius, Briar Cudgeon, Opal Koboi, Raine Vinyáya and Foaly attend the same college. Julius' interview in Artemis Fowl Files gave me the headcanon that he's kind of a history nerd, so he might have a history degree and/or criminal justice degree.
1460s- Graduating college, Julius, Vinyáya and Briar attend police academy, graduate and join LEP. Julius and Briar join Recon in 1465.
1476- Julius is promoted to Captain. He is a good officer but still overshadowed by Turnball who is one of the LEPs golden fairies at this point. Turnball is smart, well-educated, well respected by his peers and liked by his superiors. He has been given his own task force to tackle the criminal underworld of Haven, which he himself runs.
1499- In trying to get rid of a competitor, Turnball plans to flood part of Haven City. Julius finds out about his brother's plans and goes to stop him. After the ensuing firefight and chase, Turnball manages to escape as Julius refuses to kill him.
These events cause extensive investigations on everyone involved. After his failure to catch Turnball, Julius and his family get investigated for possible ties to Turnball's criminal activities and after those investigations yield nothing Julius eventually gets an assignment as far away from the public eye as possible monitoring old abandoned tunnels. But his family's life is still torn apart by the public. His family moves away from Haven City.
The officers involved in the task force get investigated as well as the higher-ups in LEP as to how Turnball was able to get away with this. The old commander gets replaced with Lope, the Internal Affairs commander. And as the public wants answers and the Council wants this all to go away as soon as possible, there is a large scale reform of the system; the Internal Affairs department is allowed more agency and most procedures are made more transparent. Officers are more accountable and more closely monitored.
New guidelines and regulations are quickly put into place but attitudes inside LEP are slow to change. Most of the old guard resent the new commander and these new rules.
As Julius is already on thin ice, he makes an effort to do everything by the book. He keeps his head down and keeps from making waves in any way. He has to make sure any investigation or review into him comes out spotless, so he knows the rulebook by heart. 2.
1522- Julius eventually returns to his normal duties as captain. This decision is mostly made by Lope as there is still tension within LEP and Lope needs competent officers in the ranks who don't resent the new rules. And Julius at this point would be one of the best in the field.
1500s- Julius arrests Mulch multiple times. Koboi puts her father out of business and builds Koboi Labs. Foaly is hired by LEP. 3.
1600- Julius is promoted to major. As Lope was always going to be a band-aid solution, he needs someone to take over as commander and starts training Julius for the job. (The other possible candidate being Vinyaya but she would become Wing Commander in 1655). 4.
1600s- During a Recon mission to locate a troll things go bad and Julius sees five of his squad lose their lives.
1676- Julius becomes youngest-ever full Commander of LEP. As commander he would continue enforcing and expanding on the changes made, only more measured. This would be supported by Vinyaya as Wing Commander and Lope now in the Council. Some of the older officers would object to him and insist he's not qualified enough and too young to be commander. 5.
1700s- Julius' parents die. During an arrest Mulch nearly decapitates Julius. Julius settles into his role as Commander.
1780- Trouble Kelp join LEPrecon. He would immediately try and arrest a troll and a gang of B'wa Kell goblins. In 1795 he would get promoted to Captain.
1800s- During this time Foaly would either be brought in or climb the ranks in the tech department until he's in charge of it, and is given the task of building the LEP's security system. He would also help in rewriting the rulebook. Julius and Foaly become reluctant friends. Most of the old guard would retire and be replaced with new officers. Briar Cudgeon is promoted to Lieutenant.
1900s- Julius would start to involve Trouble more and more, seeing as he could be a good commander one day. He starts accompanying Julius on Recon initiations. They become friends.
1923- Julius sets the air speed record. He probably had a good reason (in his mind) and he absolutely got reprimanded and fined.
1986- Holly Short joins LEPrecon. (The events of LEPrecon take place.) Turnball Root is arrested.
1987-1997- Spelltropy Pandemic kills 25% of fairy population. The city is in quarantine during this time. During this crisis Holly Short is promoted to Captain. Turnball Roots starts planning his escape.
1999-2000- The Hamburg Incident takes place.
2001- Siege of Fowl Manor on 24th of December. Briar Cudgeon is promoted to Acting Commander. After these events Holly and Julius become friends.
2002- Events of The Arctic incident take place in December. Briar Cudgeon is killed.
2003- The Events of The Opal Deception take place. Julius Root is killed.

Notes: Yes, I headcanon his birthday is on April Fool's day because he would hate it. It also makes him an Aries.
1. The interactions in Atlantis Complex between Turnball and others show that Turnball is good at manipulating people and hiding his true feelings. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's been doing this for most of his life and was probably very liked and respected as a captain. Turnball would've been Julius' hero. He would have adored his big brother and Turnball definitely was their parents favourite. Also Julius and Turnball are half Silver Fox Elves from their mother's side.
2. Julius would feel trapped during this time. LEP is what he wants to be but he's stuck for years just monitoring tunnels, overseeing prison transports and traffic duty. Just stewing thinking of how Turnball betrayed him, how he ruined the family name and how he's never getting his brother back. And he has absolutely no room to make mistakes. This is also why he hates journalists.
3. Koboi and Mulch timelines are so confusing.
4. The new commander could really be anyone, I'm picking Lope because in book 1 Julius mentions him by name as someone who would back him.
5. At least one person has implied Julius got his job as commander on his knees.
Misc. Yes Julius has been commander for a really long time and he's bloody good at it, he's not the smartest but even Artemis has admitted twice that he's smarter than he looks and wily. He knows the rulebook cover to cover and has a good memory for Council rulings just so he can bend the rules but never breaks them. He has a special interest in alchemy.
