on this episode of fiddlerposting with bee: so in the dream sequence the ensemble pops their heads out from behind walls and under furniture to do the "mazel tov!" chorus and last night the entire backstage crew decided to put on hats and headscarves and join them. nobody in the audience could tell but i was losing my fucking mind laughing

every time i fall in love with the ending of “tevyes dream” from fiddler like. we havent got the man. we had when we began. and then the harmony at the tailor motel kamzoil. and also i just really like motel in general

Fiddler on the roof is a great musical and everyone should see it jewish or not, but there’s an extra layer to watching it as a jew descended from eastern european immigrants and thinking about your great great grandfather, also a poor tailor. Wondering if Motel also got mixed up with murder incorporated when they landed in New York, or if that was just your family. You see Perchik and the Bolsheviks, and you can’t help but think of your great great granduncle, who was shot during that conflict. There’s something in listening to “far from the home I love” and wondering if Hodel met the same end as your great great grandma’s sister, who also ended up in Siberia and they never saw or heard from her again. You know Hodel’s not real, it’s just a story. But it’s real when you hear the line “g-d only knows when we will see each other again”, not from Hodel but from some girl whose name you don’t know, you only know that the answer is never.
