âFuck!â Soap shouts before he collapses into the muddy marsh. Ghost whirls around to provide cover. The ricocheting gunfire and Johnnyâs desperate, pained breath in his earpiece fills his head. A migraine pounds behind his eyelids. Theyâre exposed. Theyâre sitting fucking ducks out here.
Ghost yells, âget up, Johnny!â
âIâm fucking tryinââ Soap grits out. He crawls through the mud and his leg drags uselessly and heavy behind him. His temples flare. His mud-streaked face flushes red under the hot Noreth sun. A stinging pain slits across Ghostsâ shoulder. He ignores it.
Ghost returns fire, âPrice, tell me weâve got evac!â He shouts brusquely into his comm. His voice crackles like a dry log. âAffirmative, Lieutenant.â
Bloody hell. Â Ghost crouches into the tall, swaying reeds, his pants are slick with dark earth, and his reflection ripples in the rich, cloudy water before disappearing in a plume of umber. He pulls Johnnyâs arm over his shoulders and lifts him from the muck.
âOn your feet, soldier.â Â He barks. The helicopter rains hell from above, covering their exit, as the Humveeâs tires squelch and squeal to a harsh, mud-splattering stop.
He yanks the door open, âSoapâs been hit!â
âHow bad?â Price demands.
Soapâs face crumples and he turns his head away from Priceâs line of sight. âI canât feel my leg.â
Fuck.
The tires spin wetly. The truck jolts forward, jostling them, as Priceâs boot slams onto the accelerator. Ghost doesnât bother asking where theyâre going. He trusts Price to get them the hell out of here and into safety. The wetland fades into dirt roads and tiny rocks rebound with sharp, tinny pings against the vehicle's undercarriage. Ghost hangs onto the handlebar above and frequently checks behind him.
âYouâre bleeding.â Price observes. Shiny wetness glistens across his black sleeve. He doesnât feel it. His body is thrumming with adrenaline. There is gunfire and grenades in his head.
Ghost glances at his arm. âSuperficial.â
âSuit yourself.â The Captain murmurs under his breath. They pass farmland and wetlands. Most of Noreth is contained within these two biomes. Itâs flat, and warm, and their winters are mild. Price joked that it wouldnât be a bad place to retire.
âStill with us, MacTavish?â asks Price while glancing in the rearview toward him.
âAffirmative, sir.â
âGood. Weâre here.â The truck crests over a small hill and Ghost stiffens at the sight of a woman approaching their vehicle. She raises a hand. Price slows to a stop. Thereâs a dilapidated barn behind her, its roof caved in, but he notices the flash of a sniperâs scope in the loft. On the side of the barn, a pickup truck is parked, and an obvious metal ladder juts from the truck bed. It feels like a set up. It feels like a trap. He stiffens. His finger poises over the trigger of his pistol.
âPriceâŠâ Ghost injects a note of warning into his voice. Where are they? Who is this woman?
âAt ease, Ghost.â
She approaches the driver side window. Her head is wrapped in a navy Shayla and her chestnut brown hair peeks from the scarf. The right side of her face is scarred, her brown skin bumpy and ridged.
His chest aches. A phantom pain, an old memory. He doesnât have a heart. Not even a cold one. He said goodbye to his heart nearly three years ago in a hospital room. But, if he were to think about it, about you, heâd remember your scars. He crushes the thought. He buries it among the rest.
âYouâve gone the wrong way, traveler.â She says, neither unkindly nor kindly. Her walkie-talkie crackles suddenly at her hip.
A voice slices through the static.
âTheyâre clear. Over.â
The words blind him. He grips the handlebar and his knuckle joints crackle under the pressure. It canât be. Itâs impossible. He mustâve misheard. But he doesnât make mistakes. It is your voice. Itâs you. Itâs you, you, youâcome back to haunt him, damn him, torment him with a life he cannot have.
You said goodbye. You both did. That was meant to be the end of it. Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You peer through the scope one last time, seeing Ghost, seeing Price, and your heart threatens to detonate your ribs and send your organs flying. You scramble on your stomach, intending to rise and join her, but Samiraâs voice comes through the walkie-talkie.
âThree in the vehicle, one wounded. Over.â
You bite your tongue. Ice slithers through your veins, numbing them, and your teeth chatter in your skull. You stop yourself from asking how badly, or where, or whom. Samira is an ex-army medic, and her knowledge greatly outclasses your own. Sheâs needed. And you are better suited here.
âGo.â You reply, âsend Agathi to cover your shift, over.â
âCopy.â
Through the scope, you watch Samira wave at them, but Ghost clambers out of the passenger side. He looks directly into the loft. You nudge and wiggle yourself deeper into the shadows. Itâs pointless. Awareness ruptures across your skin in equal parts euphoria and dread. Youâve dreamed of reunions. But thatâs all they ever were, all they ever could be. Dreams. Paltry. Insubstantial. They were akin to the stories you created in the cemetery. A way to cope amidst the madness and subterfuge.
You bring the radio to your lips. Below, you can hear Samira arguing with Ghost that he cannot go into the barn because itâs dangerous.
âI bet itâs dangerous alright.â Â He grouses. You snicker and roll your eyes.
Samira opens her arms to stop him. If the choice is between keeping you safe and helping strangers, then it is no choice at all for her. She will choose you every single time. You know this.
âItâs alright.â You announce into the walkie-talkie. âGo help the others and donât make me pull rank. Over.â
Samira glares mutinously at the loft. She replies, âwe have no rank. But I will go out of the goodness of my heart. Over and out.â
You stifle another laugh. Samira is pretending to be sarcastic and cold, but you know her better than anyone. Sheâs warm. She cares. You would not be hereâyou would not be aliveâif not for her.
You set the rifle aside, though you are not unarmed as you climb down the rickety, wooden ladder into the decayed, rotting barn. You hear the truck pull away, gravel and dirt kicking up beneath its tires, and you walk toward the sliver of angelic daylight that pours between the large doors. You donât use the barn door. Itâs likely to fall off its hinges if you did. Instead, you push aside several wooden planks nearby and crawl out of the barn. You return the planks to their rightful place and kick grass with the toe of your boot to hide your tracks.
His shadow is the first thing you see. Big and imposing, stretching in the open sunlight, a dark splotch against the overgrown grass. You inhale slowly and prepare yourself. Â
You meet his eyes for the first time in nearly a year.
The world stops spinning. Or it spins too fast. Itâs hard to say. You feel, somehow, both grounded and completely out of orbit. Your throat is painfully dry, uncooperative, and you swallow around the strange tightness before breathing sharply through your nostrils. Ghost is as you remember. You are both relieved by his consistency and saddened by it. The world will change, regimens will rise and fall, ice caps will melt, but Simon will remain immovable and unchanging.
You observe, âyouâre wounded.â
âItâs nothing I canât manage.â
You roll your eyes. You donât doubt it, but he should know as well as anyone that an injury can get infected without proper treatment. You walk to the parked truck and open the glovebox to remove the first-aid kit. The truck barely runs, but itâs good cover and makes it seem like someone is trying to repair the barn in case any patrols pass by. Â
âWho else was in the truck?â You ask, setting the kit on the passenger seat and snapping on a pair of latex gloves.
âSoap.â
Your heart freezes. Youâre thankful Ghost he cannot read your expression due to your turned back. Your mind flashes with images, with memories of MacTavish. Your time was limited with him, but his kindness and earnestness made a lasting impression.
You cannot stop yourself from asking, âhow bad is it?â
âDonât know.â He replies gruffly.
âClassified?â You venture, glancing over your shoulder to him.
Ghost hooks his thumbs underneath the straps of his tactical vest and shifts his weight. You take his silence as an affirmative. He has no reason to tell you, really. You arenât part of his task force. You arenât anything, anymore. Not to him, not to anyone. With that thought firm in mind, you grab the scissors and approach Ghost, your expression calm and neutral.
âMay I?â
Ghost nods stiffly. You lift his t-shirt sleeve with your littlest finger and snip away a section of fabric thatâs caked and sticky with blood. Thankfully, the wound is little more than a graze. A bullet passed him but did not lodge itself into his skin. You click your tongue and smile archly. Â
âLucky.â
âI told you itâd be fine.â
âNot if it gets infected.â You say in a singsong, wiping away blood with an alcohol pad. He doesnât even wince. You avoid his eyes, focused on the injury, though you can feel Ghostsâ attention burning into the side of your face like an open flame. It doesnât need stitches. You disinfect the area and tape a piece of gauze. Your touch is careful and practiced and never lingering no matter how badly you want to.
Once finished, you drag your eyes away from the glaring, white square of gauze on his skin and drift toward his skull mask.
He holds your gaze for what feels like a lifetime. You havenât forgotten the intensity of those dark, mysterious eyes. You recall them in every variationâheavily lidded with lust, intense and serious, suspicious, or dark and narrowed, bright like coffee with sarcastic humor and bad jokes.
Beneath his gaze, Ghost makes you feel as if you are the only object in the universe.
You realize slowly that your fingertips are on his bicep. You tentatively pull your hand away and his muscle jumps reflexively at the absence of your touch.
âItâs good to see you.â You admit softly.
His gaze softens imperceptibly. Agathiâs voice comes through your walkie-talkie, informing you that sheâll be there in a minute, and that sheâs bringing along Kaja, so you can speak with âMr. Price.â
You laugh when Agathi calls him âMr.â instead of Captain. Ghostâs breath hitches in his throat.
You respond, biting your lip to stop your smile, âcopy that. Over and out.â
Your stolen moments of reunion with Simon beside the barn dwindle like dry tumbleweeds across the desert. You are grateful for whatever little time you have considering you never expected to see him again. Yet, you are selfish and wishing you could have more time.
You organize and store the first-aid supplies, tucking your bloody gloves in your back pocket to throw them away once youâre in the house. Ghost says nothing. He watches you. If it were anyone elseâyouâd bark at them for leering, for being creepy, but this is Ghost, itâs Simon. You are â intimately - Â comfortable with his gaze on you. A sudden flush of heat burns your ears.
Agathi rounds the corner with Kaja behind her. Agathi is nearly six feet tall and seeing her next to Ghost is impressive and it puts his massive height into perspective. Her hair is short and blonde, and her striking blue eyes are hidden behind her large, dark aviator sunglasses. Kaja is younger than Agathi and a foot shorter. She is olive-skinned and has dark, ruffled hair that lays across her head like a ravenâs nest.
âWhoa.â Kaja says when she sees Ghost, then looks to you quizzically, âhe a friend of yours?â
You nod. âOld friend.â
âYou said all your friends were dead.â Agathi says. She is less welcoming than Kaja and rightfully distrustful.
You smile at her. âThey are.â
Agathi scoffs and pushes her sunglasses up at her nose with two fingers. She doesnât say anything when she walks away from you, but you can feel suspicion radiating from her. However, the task force is under your protection, and she wonât do anything to anyone beyond sneering. Kaja watches you leave with awe on her youthful face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After ten minutes of silence, you see your haven in the distance.
âAgathi has two boys. Sven and James.â You announce. âTry not to brood so much and scare them.â Ghostâs footsteps are light beside yours and you move like wraiths down the dusty road.
âThatâs risky.â He intones, voice deep and scratchy.
You whip your face toward his, frowning. There is risk to everything, you think. But you know Agathi. You trust her. You care for her. You know Ghost isnât judging her, only taking the intel he has, and drawing a pragmatic conclusion. Noreth is at war and traveling with multiple peopleâespecially childrenâincreases the overall danger. Still, despite knowing this, you cannot help but defend her.
âWhat? Was she meant to leave them behind?â Â You shove your curled fists into your pockets. You made a similar decision six months ago. Although, in retrospect, it wasnât much of a choice at all.
âBesides,â you continue, your tone and face hot, the sun beating down on the back of your neck like someoneâs gaze. âItâs easier to think of this place as a sanctuary. A temporary place for refugees to recover before they continue onward.â
âHow long have you been here?â
âSix months.â
âSince Al-Qunbar then.â
You wince at his steel-trap memory. Nothing slips by Ghost. Six months ago, you fled Al-Qunbar and settled into Noreth with Samiraâs help. The recent conflict between East and West Noreth has torn asunder all the comfort and stability your little ragtag family found.
âThereabouts, yeah.â
âAnd is this what the agency has you doing?â He motions with his chin toward the house, ârunning a safe haven?â
You suck your lower lip between your teeth, worrying flesh between your teeth, and shrug noncommittally.
The agency no longer owns you. No one does. You wish you could celebrate this with him, but you donât know what his reaction will be. Will he call you a coward and say you are abandoning your country? Or will he be grateful that youâre no longer in the line of fire? That you're no longer puppeteering diplomats and manipulating powers beyond your ken? Â If you explained your reasoning, explained why, would he understand? Or would he hate you for keeping secrets?
He doesnât press for more information, and you donât try to fill the silence with idle chatter. Youâre reminded of your long, quiet treks through the fresh snow in Russia. Your face tucked in your scarf, the air bright and sharp, the sky a delirious blue like chlorine above your heads. Youâd walk for hours without saying anything.
You watch two birdsâ flit across a sky of cotton ball shaped clouds. You hope the conflict and fighting will not reach you, but you know itâs a foolish dream. Your lips twist in a chagrined smile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your safe haven consists of two buildings. The first is a two-story house with a front porch, bulletproof glass windows, and peeling, chipped green paint. There is laundry strung up on the line and it flaps like an elephantâs ear. The second building is smaller, the size of a studio apartment, the roof is squat and flat, and the brown paint appears baked-on from the distance. Priceâs vehicle is parked outside alongside Kajaâs pet project motorcycleâstill in pieces. The infirmary is sequestered and guarded from the main house. A necessary precaution for privacy and sustainability.
Despite the soundproofing and the roaring generator for electricity, you hear Priceâs voice. You grimace, looking back at Simon briefly, before opening the door.
âAnd Iâm telling you,â Samira exclaims, âI will not move him! He must not be moved!â
âI need him out of this zone in order to extract him.â Price says.
âHe cannot go!â Samiraâs dark brown eyes meet yours. âTalk sense into your old Captain,â She gestures impatiently with both hands. A bloody blue smock covers her clothes and a surgical mask dangled from one ear.
You ask, âwhat happened?â
Samira debriefs you. Soap was shot in his lower back. She managed to remove the bullet, but she suspects moderate to severe nerve damage, and heâll need physical therapy included in his recovery plan if he wants to walk again. Price wants to remove him and return him to Scotland.
However, Samira explains heâll need to wait a minimum of four weeks before traveling overseas, otherwise heâll risk blood clotting and other complications. Although Price is willing to honor and uphold the secrecy of your haven and not request a direct evacuationâhe wants to drive Soap to a safe zone and have him evacuated from there.
âHe stays.â Samira says sternly, âor he dies.â
Price looks at Ghost and you.
âLt, can I talk to you outside?â
You step aside to let them pass and approach Samira. You expression pinches in worry and you touch her shoulder. Your stomach binds itself into knots. In your mind, you see Soap smiling and crossing his arms after you defeated him in a card game, your heart alive with mirth for the first time in years.
You peel your words free like dried, white crafting glue, âis he going to be alright?â
âThatâs mostly up to him right now.â Samira sighs, wiping sweat from her brow with the back of her hand. About two months ago, a refugee died on Samiraâs operating table from an ill-fated bullet wound. You hope that Soap isnât as unlucky. Your eyes dart to the window to Soap and Price, talking with their heads bent low, and the knot in your stomach tightens.
âCan we move him to the house?â
Samira nods. âIn a few hours, yes.â
âGood. I donât like it when everyone is spread out.â
You wait until Ghost and Price are finished before offering to take them into the house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two blonde boys run out of the front door toward you. One has the gawkish and long-limbed awkwardness of a teenager, his pale face is dotted with pimples, his smile is wide and crinkles the skin around his clear, blue eyes. You open your arms and the smaller, younger one leaps into them. His blonde hair shines golden beneath the sun. You spin him in a circle, and he giggles, delighted. Ghost is momentarily stunned.
When was the last time he heard a child laugh? His expression stiffens. His breath shudders and fans through his mask. You set the boy down. His big, curious blue eyes look past you and toward Price and him.
âJames, this is Ghost.â You gesture to him, âand this is Captain Price.â
âLike a boat captain?â asks James.
âSomething like that.â Price responds warmly.
You introduce the teenager as Sven. Agathisâ boys clearly and obviously adore you. While walking to the door, James holds your hand and prattles endlessly about a âdragon gameâ that he and his brother are playing. Your replies are warm, attentive, and genuinely curious about his make-believe game. He wonders if itâs an act. Another layer of subterfuge, to make the residents of this place feel welcome and safe, all part of your roleâwhatever that may be. But the moment the thought passes his mind, he dismisses it.
There is something to you that didnât exist before. The light you carried within has changed, it has shifted, and he doesnât know if anyone else can see it. He doubts Price notices it. The scathing, self-loathing part of him entertains the idea that youâve fallen in love with someone. That would explain the lightness to your step and the glowing warmth of your smile. He roughly shoulders the dark thoughts to another dusty corner of his mind.
âAnd you, youâd be a red dragon.â James says knowingly, his voice filled with innocent wisdom.
You laugh. He wants to get drunk on that sound â your laugh. It bubbles inside his veins like dry, expensive champagne. It heats his skin like a good sunburn. He can endure any level of torture as long as he has your laughter playing on a loop within his mind.
âWhy red?â
James clarifies, âbecause red dragons are strong! A-and they have magic fire powers.â
âAh!â You chuckle, âthat makes sense.â
James asks, âwill you play with us after dinner?â
You donât even pause to think about it. âOf course!â
The front door leads into a sitting room with overstuffed, stripey couches and black iron wood stove with a thick column that feeds into the wall. Next to it, a narrow kitchen is painted robinâs egg blue. A small, ancient white fridge is humming in the corner and the oven has several knitted washcloths dangling from its handle.
The light fixtures are barren, their sockets empty or completely removed from the walls their thin wires exposed like intestines. The file on Noreth comes to his mind. Earlier in the conflict, families blacked out their houses with dark, heavy curtains or bedsheets, or removed their lights to hide from the air raids. However, the aerial risk has since vanished now that Norethâs only airport is smoldering ruins.
He imagines you efficiently pinning up curtains and unscrewing lightbulbs. He wonders if you said anything to the children, offered them explanations, or words of comfort. His tongue tingles like heâs pressed it to a live battery charged with a thousand questions.
Price is engaging you in conversation, and your voice is amicable, but your body language is guarded. He notices you â more than once â avoid a pointed question and maneuver around it like an Olympic figure-skater. Topics like Norethâs political climate or the safety measures at the house are encouraged, but any personal questions about yourself or the other women living at the haven are swiftly evaded. Ghost stands near the door, watching through the window toward the road and he occasionally looks at you or the two boys building a puzzle on the living room floor.
âYouâre confident then?â Price is saying, âSamira can handle Soapâs recovery?â
âI trust Samira with my life.â You say, steadfast and poised. Ghostâs molars gnash and he averts his gaze. Jealousy burns like acid reflux in his gut. âIf I had any reservations whatsoever about her abilities then I would argue against her call.â
âYou have everything you need for him?â Price prompts. Ghost almost wants to give him shit for being overbearing like an old, nervous mother hen. He checks out the window. All clear. Samira paces outside the infirmary, smoking. He finds that wonderfully ironic. A doctor who smokes. He scowls. Who is Samira to you? Do you trust her because of your circumstance? Or because youâre teammates? Or has something happened between you?
You respond, âyes.â
Price sighs heavily like the air inside his lungs is a physical object that he can lift and carry around.
âSamira says sheâll move him in a few hours. Youâre welcome to stay until then.â
Price grins, âand stay for dinner?â
âIt gives us a reason to take out the nice, fancy plates.â You smile easily. Ghost greedily traces the lines of your mouth from his peripheral vision. He can savor it when your smile isnât direct at him. He wishes he could pull you aside, speak privately, but this isnât a job where something as childish as wishes get granted.
He realizes he canât stay in this room, listening to Price make small talk, hearing the soft murmuring and excited chatter of the children on the carpet. He needs to be useful otherwise his temper will shorten, and his mood will sour like curdled milk.
He says to Price, âIâm goinâ to check the perimeter.â
âCopy that, Lt.â Price nods. Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You chop onions for the soup stock and your vision blurs with tears. Through the blinking, wet haze, you see Price regard you with warm familiarity and steady, quiet gentleness.
âItâs good to see you alive, Lux.â He says softly. âSeems like I made the right call.â
Your chest warms. Itâs nice to see his face and talk to him again despite the shitty circumstance.
âGetting sentimental in your old age?â You joke to hide how deeply his comment affected you. Youâre happy to have the onions as an excuse for the tears strolling down your cheeks. Â
He laughs. His white teeth flash and his eyes are enfolded by mirthful wrinkles. âAt ease, solider.â
You wipe your wet eyes and glance toward the door that Ghost exited through. Priceâs eyebrow notches upward and he leans his arms on the countertop. Your scalp prickles. You suddenly feel like a teenager caught passing a note to their crush in class. His perceptive eyes narrow and the unsaid question lingers in the onion-smelling air between you.
âHeâs the same.â You explain quietly, shrugging.
âHeâs not,â says Price.
You occupy your hands by scooping the chopped onions into a large soup pot and avert your eyes from Price. You arenât sure if this is a conversation youâre supposed to have or meant to have. Ghost is private. It feels wrong â no â it feels treacherous to talk about him when heâs not in the room.
âYou and MacTavish.â Price continues without prompting, âyouâve changed him for the better, I think.â
âOh,â you say, âthatâs good.â You say it like youâre commenting on the weather. You shove as much nonchalance into your tone to make it boring. Ordinary. But your mind spins wildly on its axis. Ghost has changed on some level because of you. And it was noticeable enough to catch the attention of his superior officer, someone who has known him for years. You wonder if itâs the same for you. You wonder if Price can see Ghostsâ fingerprints all over your skin. Wordlessly, you tuck your moth charm necklace inside your shirt.
The necklace isnât your only secret connection to Ghost. There is a more precious, more sacred secret. And heâs sleeping upstairs. You imagine telling Price about him, but immediately disregard the idea. Thereâs no guessing what Priceâs reaction would be. Or Simonâs. No. Itâs safer for everyone if he remains a secret. Your heart aches with foolish, idyllic longing to walk outside and talk to Simon and pour out every feeling youâve bottled over the past six months.
You redirect the conversation away from Ghost and shelve your deep, complicated feelings aside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When he returns hours later, you are peeling potatoes. He admires your skilled, careful hands and the sunset behind you frames you in butterscotch gold and hazy yellow.
A memory hits his skull like a stun grenade. In Russia, you skinned a rabbit in front of him and he called you a âproper boy scoutâ. You laughed, your head thrown back, your hands red and slimy. He thinks that mightâve been the moment his heart started to thaw.
Samira says something to you in her native tongue. You reply with a faux-serious expression but then your eyes crinkle and your smile runs the facade. Is this what youâve been up to? Making soup and hiding in old barns?
Steam rises and billows from the pot around your face like a cloud. You tap the wooden spoon rhythmically against the rim. His heart squeezes like a fist. Price and Soap talk lowly in the sitting area, Soap in a wheelchair, Price leaning his hip against the arm of the sofa with his muscular arms crossed and his face drawn.
The domesticity of this moment should frighten him, it should fill him with self-loathing, yet all he feels is keening, sharp yearning. This could be any kitchen in the world. It hurts to look at you. It feels like heartburn. He balls his fingers into fists. Â
Priceâs words come unbidden to his mind: âYou need to stay here,â he said.
âWhat dâyou mean?â Ghost said, scowling behind his mask.
âNoreth is a war zone. I canât pull Soap out, so you need to stay here and look after him.â
âYouâre kidding.â Ghost deadpans.
âNot counting ourselves, there are only two individuals on this farm that have combat training.â He knew Price was talking about you, so it was either Samira or Agathi who had experience, though he didnât know which.
Price said, âThere are few heâd trust with his life, Simon. But I know youâre one of them.â He couldnât argue with that. Heâd stay. Even if he didnât have much say in the matter. Â Â
Sven shouts from the staircase, âLukas is awake from his nap! Can I bring him down?â
âYeah!â You reply, your words followed by an easygoing smile. His gaze flickers back to the staircase at the sound of Svenâs careful, yet loud footfalls.
Sven carries a toddler in his arms that must be his youngest brother. He guesses his age is somewhere around 2 or 3 based on size alone. You mentioned Agathi had boys. Plural. Itâs hard to imagine a mother of three crossing hostile territory, but he supposes anything is possible within the right circumstance. When you defended Agathi, your voice was filled with flushed pride and indignation like you were scolding him for being uncouth. His lips press together under his mask. He missed thatâyour spark. No one has a bite quite like yours.
The boyâs cherubic face is more solemn than bashful Sven or inquisitive, talkative James. And his big, round brown eyes mustâve been inherited from his father (who is likely dead, Ghost assumes, since thereâs no one else at the safe house).
Sven settles the child onto the carpet and passes him a red toy truck.
âBeep beep!â He proclaims. His voice deepens to rumble the car across the wooden floorboards.
You ask from the kitchen, âLukas, what do you want for dinner?â
âMashed potatoes!â Lukas replies and his smile dimples his chin.
Samira rolls her eyes. Her lips twitch, and her sideways pose, and half-smile remind Ghost of a coyote.
âNaturally,â says Samira.
âHe likes what he likes.â You say breezily.
You divide the soup into neutral toned bowls and Samira helps you hand them out. Price accepts the meal with a grateful smile. Soap complains about how little Samira has given him and she primly responds that heâs likely to throw up as a side effect to medication, so he ought to eat in small portions.
The soup bowl is between your hands like a tender, reverent offering.
He declines with a small and curt shake of his head. He ate an MRE during his walk-about of the property. He doesnât have the stomach for anything else. He never could eat much on missions. He ate enough to keep him coherent, keep him sharp, but that was it.
âMy cookingâs not that bad, is it?â You say with a teasing, familiar lilt to your voice.
He shifts his weight. His rifle, a comfortable weight, nudges between his shoulder blades. âSod off.â He grumbles. Your eyes brighten followed by your smile.
âIâll take that as a yes.â
He glances to the rest of the room. Everyone else is talking or eating. No one is paying attention to this corner. Some of the tension in his shoulders relaxes infinitesimally. He feels his jaw unclench, the sensation miniscule yet poignant, as he regards you. Â
âQuit fishinâ for compliments.â
âCanât blame a gal for seeking a little praise.â You cover your lips over your spoon, slurping, and mischief illuminates your expression. He watches you. Something low and aching and hardly forgotten comes to life and unfurls in smoldering heat. If you were aloneâGod help himâif you were aloneâŠ
He inclines his head ever-so-slightly, his voice deep and rumbling and dangerous, âconsider it noted.â
Samira calls to you in her language. It grates at him. Is Samira trying to hide something? Does Price know what sheâs saying? How much can they really trust anyone here? Youâre quick to reply and you sidle over to her and Sven, though you switch the conversation to English.
His jaw tightens. You might suddenly come under fire from an ambush. He peers out the window. All clear. The walkie-talkie at your hip is silent. Price looks relaxed. You look relaxed.
However, it doesnât mollify his sense of paranoia. The flatlands of Noreth are too exposed for his liking.
The property is filled with tall, thin reeds similar to switch or cord grass. Itâs massive enough to camouflage his height if he crouches and he suspects the boyâJamesâcan get completely lost in it. But the spongy earth makes it difficult to travel on foot and the lonely safehouse isnât fenced in.
Thankfully, he did find an all-terrain vehicle covered by a mottled brown and green tarp which meant you had some evacuation plan if things went south. He glances sideways out the window again. All clear.
Johnny pushes on the wheels of his wheelchair toward him and he nearly knocks into Ghostâs heavy combat boots. He balances his empty soup bowl on his thighs. The heat and warm food has flushed Johnnyâs neck and cheeks to a soft, dusty pink. Itâs good to see some color on him. He was too pale and ashen on the drive to the safehouse.
Heâs changed out of his tactical gear. Heâs wearing an ill-fitting gray jumper and sweatpants. He assumes the clothes are from Samira because they didnât bring their full kits. This mission wasnât supposed to be overnight. Now theyâd be stuck for a minimum of four weeks.
âI guess weâll be here for a bit, Lt.â
âLooks like it.â
Following the abrupt, wheezing sound of your laughter, Soap tilts his head over his shoulder to you, then returns his gaze to Ghost.
âI know Price asked you to stay, but you donât have to.â Soap begins, âIâll make a quick recovery. And they need you in the field, running operations, not sitting here playing guard dog.â
Ghost shakes his head slowly.
âOrders came from Price, Johnny.â
âI know.â Soap sighs. He peeks over at you, Samira, and Sven again. Then murmurs quietly to himself, âwonât be all bad, I suppose.â
Ghost pretends like he doesnât hear and ignores the part of him that agrees.

Cold hands, Warm hearts
Natasha Romanoff x GN!Reader
Summary: Natasha warms you up on a cold day with an impromptu date
A/N: This is for @esouliie ! You can all thank her for this because I don't know when I would have gotten something new finished. This was also the result of there being way too many 'missing Natasha hours' recently (I've also been having a lot of 'missing Wanda hours' too and have re-watched WandaVision because of it). But, everyone... this fic... is so freaking cute and I hope you all think so too. Happy reading and let me know who you think!
"Hey," you hear a familiar rasp from over your shoulder.Â
You didn't think you would hear from her so soon. She told you she was going to be busy, which is code for âaway on a missionâ, so have kept yourself occupied for the last few weeks trying not to think of the red head. Which is easier said than done.Â
Every morning when you wake up disappointment fills you not seeing her there. Your intertwined lives are now routine.Â
It is hard to adjust when she is away, especially when it is for weeks and what feels like no end in sight. On top of that, with missions like these, there is no communication between you to fill the Natasha shaped hole in your life.Â
Sometimes you wonder if it would be easier to be involved with someone else, anyone else for that matter, but the thought is gone as quick as it comes because no one could ever replace the way she makes you feel.Â
The first week of her absence you filled your free time as much as you could by catching up with friends and family. You constantly found yourself avoiding the question about why you have been so distant recently. It was the one thing Natasha requested from you - not telling anyone about your relationship with her - to, in her words âkeep you safe'.Â
You still remember the way she looked at you. It was the first time you could see past the facade she held, seeing the worry linger in her eyes for a split second. The intensity of her gaze and her hesitance was a strange thing to witness. When you nodded your head in agreement her smile was soft, almost relieved. In that moment you realized you would agree to anything she asked just to see that vulnerable side again. You felt privileged.Â
This second and third week have been much slower, a lot of your time has been spent in the four walls of your apartment because of last minute canceled plans and much needed maintenance needed around your home.Â
So you decide today, cold be damned, you will be taking a walk through your local park. You shared this little wonder of a place with Natasha in your fourth month of being together, happy to be able to reveal a bit more of you and your life.Â
It is a public place, more people pass by here than in the street where you live. But you got to show Natasha all the overlooked secrets; little winding paths that lead to flower gardens, a pond hidden behind some bushes and the gargoyles you can see from one spot when standing in a specific angle by a monument in the center. You even pointed out some regulars you see because of all your time here. From the confined elderly wanting a bit of liberation from their mundane lives to daring children trying to climb the tallest tree they can find.Â
A breeze rushes past, the cold chilling you to your bones and you inwardly curse at yourself. Trust you to have picked the coldest day for some freedom. Initially, the brisk air was making you regret your decision, that was until the sun came out. It didn't do a whole lot against the freezing temperature, but it did look pretty against the frost and ice distracting you from the chilly weather.Â
The way the sun's rays shine between the branches that stretched out over your head reminded you of spring time and how much you couldnât wait for the season to change.Â
Just as you were about to get out from the clearing for some much needed sunlight and heat on your face, thatâs when you heard Natasha.Â
It has been so long you think you are hearing things, that is until you turn your head and see her. The long army green coat she is wearing almost makes her look taller.Â
Almost.Â
Strands of red hair peek out from the beanie Natasha is wearing, a braid is tucked into her pulled up collar and she has a soft smile on her face. One you have noticed she reserves for you.Â
It takes everything in you to not run over and jump into her arms, to press your nose into her neck to get a smell of the home you have been craving.Â
Big scenes are not her thing, youâve learnt.Â
Instead your eyes drop to her gloved hands holding two hot drinks which takes you out of your stupor and smiling brighter in return. You almost want to ask how she knew where you were but then remember her profession.Â
"You look cold," there is a playfulness to Natashaâs voice matching her smirk.Â
Regardless of how wrapped up you are, you know your scarf hasn't done much to stop your face from getting cold, it must be covered in a light blush.Â
"I could say the same about you," you raise an eyebrow with your own smirk. A noticeable pink tint is adorning her cheeks and nose from the cold bite of the air. You wonder how long she has been trailing you.Â
Natasha's smile widens as closes in and hands you one of the cups. You take off your gloves, shoving them into your pocket to allow the heat to bring back the feeling in your frozen hands as you bring it to your nose to take a whiff. Your favorite, of course it is.Â
She leans in and pecks you on the lips, her still warm palm from the drink sinks into your cheek making you forget about the kiss of the sun you were walking towards. Natasha disappoints you with how short her lips are on yours, you were hoping for something that was more than just a split second considering how long it has been.Â
Although Natasha pulls back it is only by an inch as she remains close to ask, "Where are you going?"Â
Her voice is low and her warm breath is a nice contrast to the icy wind.Â
Your eyes flutter close as you revel in her presence and soak up the warmth she brings. Brushing your nose against hers you reply, "Wherever my feet take me," you smile and open your eyes to the green ones you selfishly wish to keep to yourself. "I'm glad I have some company now," you whisper.Â
"I hope you weren't expecting anyone else," Natasha says with a twitch of an eyebrow.Â
You shake your head. "Definitely not," you say, pressing a small kiss to her lips, one that lasts longer than the mediocre one she gave you. "I missed you."Â
You like seeing her like this. Carefree. Soft. Unguarded.Â
Well as unguarded as can be, it was something you picked up in your first few months of spending time together - Natasha is always alert. The way her eyes flint around every so often, looking around to quickly survey her surroundings, always cautious of any lingering threats. To the untrained eye it looks like she is taking in the scenery, but you know after knowing her for as long as you have.Â
Over time it is a habit you have even picked up from her, making you wonder if there are things she has picked up from you.Â
Natasha stands by your side allowing you to loop an arm around her waist while you take a sip of your beverage. It leaves a warm trail as it makes its way down your throat. It still isn't as warm as the way Natasha makes you feel though as cheesy as that may sound.Â
"Thank you for this, I didn't realize how much I needed it," you say, signaling the paper cup.Â
She smiles at you to acknowledge your gratitude. "You're never one to think ahead, plus I saw you shiver," Natasha remarks.Â
You scoff, shaking your head, "I did not shiver."Â
Some children are laughing not too far in front of you which distracts both of your attentions away from your conversation. A large puddle of water has frozen over and seems to be the main source of entertainment for the little gang.Â
The two of you stop to watch their innocence, a pang of jealousy hits you because of how carefree and innocent they are. Not a single worry showing on their faces in this cruel world.Â
You have been fortunate to only hear about the atrocities always going on. More so since you started to date Natasha. She doesn't go into detail about her line of work but the faraway look she has on her face sometimes after certain assignments tells you all you need to know. It fills you with pride knowing you are Natashaâs source of domestic normalcy.Â
One of the snuggly wrapped up boys slips and tries to regain his footing before he falls to the ground making you let out a breath of laughter. The scene is something straight from a cartoon as the boy tries to find balance when trying to stand again while the rest laugh at him. A boy in a puffy gray coat, who is howling with laughter, loses his feet from under him sending him straight to the ground landing on his butt making the rest of them exclaim even louder.Â
The smile you see in your peripheral vision tells you Natasha is enjoying this too.Â
"How long had you been watching me before you decided to come over, stalker?" You ask, curiosity getting the better of you.Â
"Long enough to see you shiver," Natasha accuses in her husky voice.Â
You bark out a laugh, "I do not shiver!"Â
"Yeah, yeah, you keep lying to yourself," Natasha smirks.Â
You spend long minutes, people watching while sipping on your drinks and basking in this precious stolen time you get to spend with each other.Â
The children are fewer now, some of them have left with their parents while the rest stay. They have started a game to see who can stay on their feet the longest as they try to knock each other down.Â
Sometimes you forget Natashaâs past, what little you know of it, and almost ask about her childhood. You bite your tongue to stop yourself from asking 'What did you get up to as a kid?âÂ
Instead, you face Natasha as she continues to stare on at the scene; her side profile is enough to show her fatigue. You place your empty cup on the wall beside you so you can take her face in your hands.Â
Natasha takes your lead to turn in your direction allowing you to take in all of her features.Â
"You look tired," you whisper in concern as your thumb rubs along her cheekbone.Â
"Gee, thanks(!)" Natasha chuckles at her own sarcasm.Â
"Nat," you start, ready to reprimand her for not being serious.Â
"Weâve had some long days. But donât worry, I'll be off for the holidays,â Natasha replies. âYou'll have me for two weeks. Thatâs enough time for you to get sick of having me around. By the end of it youâre going to want to be rid of me."Â
"Impossible," you say without thinking then lean in to press a kiss to the corner of her lips.Â
Natasha turns her head slightly to meet your lips, sighing when she allows herself a moment of being wrapped up in you.Â
A buzzing sound makes you stop before you can deepen the kiss any further. You let out a breath of disdain from Natashaâs phone ruining your moment. Natasha smiles at you apologetically, taking the device from her pocket.Â
While Natasha checks the notification you give her some privacy, picking up both empty cups to discard them.Â
When you return and meet Natasha's eyes, the sparkle that was there just moments ago has faded as regret takes over. She is being called back.Â
"Three more days, then you're all mine, Romanoff,â you smile. âAnd for a whole two weeks!" you exaggerate in hopes to lessen the blow of her having to leave. "How did I get so lucky? I guess I'm being spoiled this season."Â
You know you succeed when you see the corners of Natasha's lips raise slightly before she holds onto your coat and pulls you in kissing you again.Â
Her phone buzzes impatiently, interrupting you again .Â
"I have to go," Natasha says, her warm breath fanning over your face as she rests her forehead against yours. âBut just know, Iâm the lucky one here.âÂ
You smile at her confession and revel once more in the warmth she provides before you have to face the harsh cold that comes with the Winter months alone.Â
Kissing Natashaâs forehead you meet her loving green gaze once more. "Come back to me," you breathe out as light as the breeze chilling you.Â
"Always," Natasha says, sweetly and just as quiet. Her voice carries the weight of more than the one worded sentence she has spoken.Â
Taking a breath, Natasha gives you a final peck before she drags herself away from you.Â
Your arm stretches out as Natasha walks away, your hand lingering in hers for those extra few seconds of comfort. But mostly because you don't want to let her go.Â
Saying goodbye is always difficult no matter how short the visit.Â
As you watch her walk away you think about the first time you met the assassin.Â
Out of all the windows in the city Natasha crashed through yours. Your shock had you frozen in place until she tried to stumble out of your apartment but collapsed from fatigue because of the fight she had just endured.Â
After getting over the fact an Avenger covered in dirt and blood had ruined your new rug, you used your limited first aid knowledge to nurse her back to health. When she awoke a few hours later, she told you just how crappy of a job you had done.Â
What got Natashaâs attention was when you quipped back saying you should have let her bleed out to make a quick buck off of all of her equipment to pay for the damages she caused.Â
When she left a short while later you didnât think you would ever see her in person again. You were looking forward to being able to tell all the people in your life about the encounter with an actual superhero.Â
Reality hit you in the gut with the name of âNon Disclosure Agreementâ and a clean up crew which you couldnât be mad about.Â
Unbeknownst to you, after your first meeting Natasha couldn't stop herself from wanting to see you again. Her mind drifted to the âkindâ (your words not hers) stranger who applied sloppy bandages to her arm and stomach. The messy job would have gotten infected if she hadnât woken up. Natasha caught herself smiling at the memory too often and had to force herself to be present for work.Â
Life went on and your encounter felt less and less real as each day passed. Until one evening, while in your office building working late, you received a call telling you you were needed on the roof. Skeptical as you were, you obeyed thinking of the promotion you had been working so hard toward.Â
What you hadnât expected was a fully healed Black Widow to emerge from the shadows, playfully schooling you to not comply with shady orders received late at night. Then insulting you with how boring your life was and how you should learn to cook for yourself instead of wasting all your money on take-out.Â
Surprise was an understatement and instead of letting that show, like your mouth wasnât already slightly hanging open from the shock while she spoke, you decided to play Natashaâs game and call her out for the stalker that she was.Â
Since then your meetings have been sporadic but it didnât stop you both from falling for each other. Who knew a year and a half on you would be in a relationship with each other, life would have made more sense if you had stopped talking. But you have defied the odds and are still going strong.Â
When you make it back to your apartment you find flowers waiting for you on the kitchen counter making you smile. A card attached to them with a message in Natashaâs handwriting that reads â3 more days âĄâ makes you feel like your heart is going to burst from emotion.Â
Needless to say that smile never left your face throughout you making dinner all the way up until the moment you go to bed that night. Natasha somehow always has a habit of making you feel like a giddy teenager.Â
You couldnât wait to see her again. The gift you have been wanting to give to her for a few weeks has been hidden under your towels in the kitchen cabinet. You can only hope she doesn't already know about it.Â
The next time you are together you are going to give her a key to your apartment so that she knows she will always have a place to come back to.Â
A place she can call home.Â

OKAY LAST LOUIS POST FOR TONIGHT I PROMISE (PROBABLY) (I MIGHT BE LYING)
I keep thinking about how cute Louis is in the TRGB episode with his nephew, and how the two of us would probably babysit for him SO often, to the point where he starts to see us more as parental figures than his own parents since they hardly pay any attention to him. but I'm ALSO thinking about how Lawrence probably wouldn't like me at first and would lash out when Louis starts seeing me, bc he's so used to people not paying attention to him and he thinks I'm gonna steal all of Louis' time and attention away đđđ
(this ofc is resolved as he slowly realizes "OHHH this means I'm getting attention from TWO PEOPLE??" and that I care about him :'))
#me about a character who was in ONE episode: im adopting you#i need to draw us doing a bunch of fun things with lawrence UHG I SHOULDVE DRAWN US GOING TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH THIS MONTH WTFHGSDHGF#OR CARVING PUMPKINS TOGETHER HELLO.....#well theres plenty of time to draw us doing general autumn/winter/hanukkah/christmas festivities :D#my hopeless romantic heart cannot handle the holidays in 80s NYC.......... def gonna have to write a louis fic or 50 about it#winter is slowly becoming my fave season simply bc i think it's the most romantic...#needing to be close to someone to get warm. fireplaces. walks in the snow. sharing a scarf. 18. Do you enjoy research? Which fic of yours required the most research?
oh god research is my best friend, my darling, my beloathed. my problem with research is that, because i really enjoy it, i often get way too into it to the point where i, um, stop writing the fic itself. one fic that was supposed to contain a very brief reference to a poem by one of dante's contemporaries lead me into a spiral of learning about the backstory of that particular poem (which in my defense was really funny and interesting), and i ended up writing basically a miniature essay about that poem that was longer than what i ever wrote of that fic. i also get hung up on the idea of a more knowledgeable person spotting an anachronism or technical inaccuracy and going "gasp, this has ruined my immersion" or "tsk tsk, this author clearly doesn't know anything about late 19th century locomotives, what a rube." which i can acknowledge objectively is a) unlikely to happen and b) not a real problem that should bother me but still! it haunts me.
anyway, i am trying to improve on this. research should be a friend, not an enemy. the story of mine that's required the most research was definitely 13. Invitation: to Fabullus, because it's a regency era story and i know this is a time period a lot of people are interested in, so any inaccuracies would be more noticeable. i learned a lot about regency era fashion (all of those sections were cut from the finished piece) and dancing, and a lot about catullus' horniest poetry.
#ask#fic ask meme#salvadorbonaparte#thank you so much for the ask!! warms my cold little heart#btw. this ask also involved research. bc i didn't know off-hand when the locomotive was invented

art credit and inspiration due to the wonderful @/sakimenz
Lonely star, who do you shine for?
The weight of all your pasts- of all your futures- the guilt and pride you carry will only cause you to collapse, and all that will be left will be an all-consuming black hole.Â
Your desperation wonât bring your sun back.Â
Lonely king, donât you know a kingdom devoid of life is a crown devoid of purpose?
You were the fire that left them, and all you have to show for the betrayal is a drowned memory and a heart wrenched from your chest, a broken promise and a forgotten story.Â
Youâve changed with each lifetime, but youâll forever be at the mercy of fate.Â
And you? Youâre the very curse that haunts them.Â
Claws, so cold they burn, emerge from the darkness before piercing through flesh, tearing through muscle and bone as they dig into your ribcage, dragging you down into the shadows. Drowning, falling. Youâre spiraling through lifetimes of failure, lifetimes of pain both your own and not, all while the claws dig closer and closer to your heart, clutching the muscle like a songbird in a cage.Â
Itâs the price, the price you must pay for all this pain youâve caused, for dooming a star and killing a god.Â
The clawed hand wraps around your heart, the piercing into the fluttering pulse faster and faster untilâ
You wake up crying.Â
A hot trail of tears slides into the pillows, and a sniffle rakes through your body, the sudden movement causing a subtle disturbance to the two forms still sound asleep on either side of you.Â
Funny, you canât remember a thing, but thereâs a painful throb in your chest. Youâll take another dose of your heart medicine in the morning.Â
But for now, your bedroom is still dulled by the pale blue moonlight filtering through the curtains, and youâre in no hurry to get out of the warm covers and their embrace.Â
The nightmares have become routine at this point. You never remember what they are, but you wake up with a sense of fear and dread, as though you can feel the pain all over again. Itâs best not to think too much about it.
Taking a deep breath and closing your eyes, you inhale shakily one last time, trying to shake off the looming feeling when the arm around your waist shifts, tugging lightly at your loose sleep shirt before slipping under to massage the skin beneath. You let out a soft sigh, a light shudder going through your body as the gentle hands work away the tension.
âThe same?â Rafayelâs words are slurred with sleep and concern, hot breath dancing along the crook of your neck as he props himself up on his elbow. You nod.
Rafayel makes a small, displeased noise before his other arm pulls you closer, his bare chest now flush against your back. The sudden movement forces Xavier, who was once tucked against your shoulder, further away, grumbling at the loss even in his sleep.
His face scrunches, brows furrowed together before the corners of his lips turn downward, and he blindly reaches for you. He eventually finds the curve of your waist, and his hand tightens on the fabric of your shirt as it slides in above Rafayelâs.
A huff, and Xavier buries his face back into your chest, his warm breath tickling you. And then, gentle snoresâ you should've known better than to think that would be enough to wake him.
Rafayel, still pressed firmly against your back, begins to move, propping his body up just enough to look you in the eyes as he wipes a stray tear from your cheek. "Wanna talk about it, cutie?"
âI⊠I think you were there, both of you. But it felt lonely, painful.â
Rafayel's face contorts into a worried expression, his hand moves down your cheek, cupping your jaw, and you lean into his warm caress with a sigh.
You place a kiss on his palm. "It's okay, just a scary dream. Nothing real. Nothing to worry about." You repeat it, more to yourself than Rafayel, but his arms wrap around you anyway.
And yet Rafayel looks at you with a deep furrow in his brow, a seriousness youâve almost never seen on him.
You give him a questioning look, but his lips press to yours in a searing kiss, stealing the air from your lungs. He pulls away only for a second, whispering sweet nothings against your skin before returning his lips to yours, the hand cradling your face slipping down to rest on your hip.
He kisses you softly, gently. First pressing a trail of light, chaste kisses along your jaw, the corners of your mouth, and nose, then moving back to your lips. âWeâll never leave you. Weâd tear through every universe, every destiny to get back to you.â
Strange, how Rafayel says it with all the reverence of a vow.Â
You want to tease him for the sudden declaration, for making all this fuss over a stupid dream, but you never have the opportunity, not when Rafayel's signature smirk settles back onto his lips.Â
His hand slides down to your thighs, fingers teasing around the band of your sleep shorts, toying, pressing, but never crossing the self-imposed boundary of your clothes. âUnless, youâd prefer it if I proved it to you?â
âRafayel,â you warn, hoping your narrowed glare would dissuade him.
Of course the man only seems to take that as a challenge, smile widening as you flinch at the cold touch creeping under your shirt. One palm traces up your ribcage, long, nimble fingers rubbing circles against your skin until he brushes the underside of your breast.Â
You shudder, hissing out another string of curses before turning around so your back is to Rafayel.Â
Really, you should know better than to think that alone would be enough, and a hot trail of kisses now joins his wandering hands down your shoulder blade. They start innocent enough, sweet, lingering touches along the hem of your shirt, but that quickly changes when Rafayelâs arm under your shirt practically yanks it up, sucking wet, messy kisses into the bare curves of your chest.
Each nip against your sensitive flesh forces the possibility of sleep further and further away, and you resort to distracting yourself with the motionless silhouette of Xavier. Petting through his hair, your rhythm is jolted every time Rafayel decides to leave a mark, nails pulling through Xavierâs locks as you bite your lip on a moan.
You don't miss the curve of his smirk against your skin, and the next kiss is accompanied by a bite, hard enough to elicit a sharp gasp that stirs Xavier. Tense, you scan the blonde's face, but he's nothing if not a heavy sleeper, and he nuzzles further into your touch, still unconscious as his head tucks under yours.
You don't get to sigh in relief. Instead, a whine builds in your throat, the wet heat of Rafayel's teeth tugging on the strap of your underwear as he fists your sleep shorts down.
"Rafayel, stop it,â you hiss as his hot breath hits the already embarrassingly damp center of your underwear.
His smile grows, lips brushing against your clothed core as he tilts his head. âHmm? But you donât sound like you want me to stop. And she certainly doesnât sound like it either.â Two fingers dip under the band, and he parts your cunt with a lewd click.
Your face flushes in embarrassment, refusing to acknowledge just how easily your body gives in to them. One hand leaves Xavier, roughly fisting into Rafayelâs curls as he groans from the sharp pressure. âThatâs because you and Xavier refused to wear protection!âÂ
The accusation earns a hushed laugh, his shoulders shaking against the insides of your thighs. It would have been innocent, the same contagious sort of smile gracing Rafayelâs face, if not the shadows cast across his face in the dark, teeth gleaming like fangs as he traces his tongue up the entire length of your clothed cunt.Â
"Mâsorry, we thought you'd enjoy the mess," he says, words muffled over your thighs, nose practically buried in between. "How can I make it up to you, cutie?â
You donât get a chance to respond, not when Rafayelâs tongue dives into your clothed cunt, moaning against the soaked fabric as you gasp and force him closer by his hair. To muffle his sounds, you tell yourself. A pathetic lie considering how much louder he gets now, nose grinding up against your clit as his tongue tries to press into your fluttering cunt even with the barrier of cloth in between.Â
God, heâs addicted, and it doesnât take long until Rafayelâs spit and your slick soak through your underwear, the near-translucent fabric sticking to your lips as the bare minimum friction nearly drives you insane.Â
âSay it,â Rafayel whines, nuzzling his face against your inner thigh. âPlease, just tell me how badly you want me. Tell me, and Iâll do anything you ask.â
Like he wouldnât already.
But how could you ever deny him when he begs so sweetly?Â
Your palm cups his face, watching his near-wrecked expression and flushed skin tremble beneath your fingers. âIâm yours, Rafayel.â
And the fabric is ripped into pieces.Â
Refusing to even breathe, Rafayel places an opened-mouth kiss on your cunt, lapping up your slick with the most satisfied moan. He doesn't waste any time, not while your confession coated his mind with the sweetest type of intoxication, eating you out like he was depraved.
He might as well have been with how he moans, hips grinding desperately against the edge of the mattress, his not-entirely human tongue curling in and out of you as it writhes with terrifying accuracy against your walls.
It feels too good to be ashamed of the noises you make, gasping and crying out until you slam your palm over your mouth, biting down hard as the other claws into Rafayelâs hair. You can barely control yourself, half fighting to squirm away from the overwhelming pleasure, half rocking your hips up and down his face as you jerk him closer.Â
âMhm, greedy.â Fucked-out, broken little grunts leave his throat before his words are muffled into your cunt, not baring to part for even a breath. âPull on it, please. Harder.âÂ
You tug Rafayelâs hair almost in vengeance when he purposefully kisses away from where you need him most, licking and sucking obscenely into your thighs just to hear your frustrated cries even over your hand.Â
He loved being used like this, so long as it was you.Â
So long as it was him that turned you into such a beautiful, pathetic mess.Â
It's not long until Rafayel pulls you close to the edge, nose pressing against your clit while thrusting his tongue into you, eyes rolling back from the taste and from the thought of your tight heat fluttering around his cock instead.Â
And then, he stops, pulling away and leaving you gasping into the tear-stained pillow.
You bite back a sob, releasing only a choked little noise that has Rafayel's eyes flicking up to your face, the soft, concerned look in his eyes melting into something far more dangerous.
With viciously dilated pupils and your slick dripping from his mouth, Rafayel stares you down as every inch the dangerous siren the legends claimed him to be. He smiles, tongue raking over his teeth as though he couldnât get enough of your taste, and you swear youâd let him eat your heart and soul. Gods, youâd let him eat you whole.Â
You realize you must have made a sound, because Rafayel hushes you, pressing quick kisses to your knee. "Aw, what happened to being quiet? Aren't you afraid we'll wake the poor sleeping bunny?"Â
At the mention of your other partner, you turn to where Xavierâs nuzzling his face further into your side, each warm breath damp against your feverish skin, still lost to the realm of dreams.
Not that Rafayel allows your attention to turn away from himself for too long.Â
He leans over Xavier, the hand that wasnât supporting his weight cupping your face, and his lips are crashing into yours with all the viciousness of a summer seastorm. Your lips part, and Rafeyel fucks his tongue into your mouth the same he did your pussy, wet and desperate, the taste of yourself enough to make you dizzy.Â
"Tell me,â Rafayelâs tone dips into something darker, kissing down your throat and stomach as he eyes Xavier. âWhoâs the better lover?"Â
Xavier's fingers flex, the tips brushing against the curve of your breast as he sleeps, and Rafayel's smile is almost predatory.
"D-don't ask stupid questions you dumb fish," your voice cracks as Rafayel's mouth ghosts over your cunt, teeth bared to your thigh, threatening to bite. "I chose you both."
The confession, as expected, doesn't please him. If anything, he seems overly offended, pouting and huffing a cold breath of air right against your aching core. The chill makes you squirm, trying to force him back to your center with the grip you have on his hair.
"No. Nope. That's not an answer."
"Rafâ"
His name breaks off in a moan, sound ripped from your throat as Rafayel's thumb starts rubbing firm circles around your neglected clit. He doesn't relent, the pressure too much, too quick, your body already trembling from the pleasure Rafayel knows how to torture you with.
Only, it seems that all your sudden noise and movement have finally begun to affect Xavier. Not enough to wake him, but enough that you can hear his breathing become heavier, following your every twitch and buck from Rafayelâs onslaught as his body begins to grind into yours.
Mumbling into your neck, Xavierâs hand tightens around your waist before slipping under your shirt to palm your breasts, squeezing and kneading until the touch has you keening.
Xavier's still fast asleep, nonsensical words slurred against your skin, and yet his body is now far from it. His erection is thick and heavy against your hips, grinding desperately into your warmth almost in time to Rafayelâs ministrations, whimpering under his breath with every forceful thrust.Â
Rafayel notices too, his gaze drifting up to the blond. You can't see his face, already busied between your legs once more, but a pleased hum vibrates through his entire body, fingers finally slipping into your cunt as he curls them just right, your back arching off the sheets with a silent scream.Â
Xavier whines at your sudden thrashing, tugging you closer and unknowingly forcing you immobile and at complete mercy to Rafayelâs unfairly skilled fingers. "Mhm, so warm. Please, mâwant to..." Another needy, slow grind against you follows his sleepy request.Â
"Rafayel," you choke out a muffled plea, but his eyes only narrow, taking a breath as his free hand grabs at Xavier's ass, the touch just light enough to tease and make him rut harder against you.
"What is it, cutie? Don't pretend like you don't want more, not when your pretty pussy's drooling for his cock. Sheâs so needy, am I not enough?â
Rafayel rests his head on the inside of your thigh, fingers thrusting roughly into that sweet spongy spot inside you just as his other hand wraps around the base of Xavier's cock through his boxers, thumbing over the pre-cum staining the dark fabric.Â
You're forced to bite down on the pillow beneath your head to stop the desperate cry tearing itself out of your throat. "This isnât- ah- isnât right."
"Isn't it? Youâre dripping and the little bunnyâs still asleep, yet look how desperate he is, rutting against you." Rafayel's voice dips, a raspy edge from his throat still fucking into you making it even more sinful, slurping everything you give him around his fingers before it drips down his wrist and into a puddle below. A huff, âI should get rewarded with how much effort Iâm putting in.â
You cry out, legs trembling as his thumb begins its relentless attack on your clit, tracing mindless circles just random enough to keep you on edge. You're close, and Rafayel can feel it.
Xavier isnât faring much better, whimpering a string of incoherent pleas into the crook of your neck as his hips keep rocking into the fist around him. He doesn't take his mouth away from the skin of your shoulder, biting down on it as he cums, shuddering and whimpering as the mess splatters down Rafayel's knuckles and onto your thighs.Â
âYouâre next. If you wonât be honest with me, Iâll make your body is.â Rafayelâs taunt is the last coherent thing you remember before you come. Hard. His words ring against your skull as his fingers pump into you faster, and the pressure against your clit becomes almost unbearable, and you're falling apart, crying and thrashing, the only thing keeping you grounded is the feeling of Rafayel's weight and the scent of Xavier's strawberry shampoo, and thenâ
Rafayel finally shuts up to let you ride his face through your high, letting you use him as your thighs lock around his head, grinding desperately as though he were no more than a toy. No chance of breathing, no chance of escape.Â
Not that he could care less, not as long as he could keep his lips around your gushing cunt, humming and sucking into your release as cum sprays over his tongue and down his chin. Gods, he could never get enough of this.
You're still shaking through your orgasm, pliant and stupid from the dizzying pleasure, that you don't notice the rustle of sheets until a second pair of hands slide down your thighs.Â
"Youâre doing this without me?"Â
Xavierâs voice is a whisper, husky from sleep and his orgasm as he presses a kiss right below your ear, fingers squeezing rougher against your breasts.
"S-sorry. Didn't want to wake you," you try, biting back a gasp when his thumb flicks over a nipple. Rough. Mean.Â
Rafayel snorts. "I think it's a bit too late for that.â A glare at Xavier over your leg, showing off your cum still dripping from his lips and fingers. âBesides, I didn't need you."
You want to argue, really, but then Xavier is grabbing a fistful of your hair, tugging just hard enough to push your head back, coaxing a moan from your throat as he marks down your neck with kisses intending to bruise. Heâs pouting, grabbing your jaw as he forces your gaze away from Rafayel, nipping your bottom lip until you surrender to his drowsy advances.
âWhyâŠâ Another kiss before Xavier's licking desperately into your mouth, âWhy didn't you wake me?"
The question comes out a little breathless, almost petulant, eyes hooded and dark as he looks over the mess Rafayel has made of you. He can't tear his eyes away, watching Rafayel even as he kisses you. His fingers flick over your nipple again, twisting and pinching until you're shaking, your thighs squeezing Rafayel's face, all while Xavier watches.
Said man only smiles, all smug arrogance. "Didn't you hear her, Xav? She said she didn't want to wake you, so don't blame me."
Rafayel drags a wet, open-mouthed kiss over your cunt, the overstimulation making you break the kiss with a gasp.
"Liar." Xavier's voice trembles, and you can't tell if he's referring to Rafayel's words, or the way he's staring longingly at Rafayel's lips now, still slick with your release. "You just wanted her all to yourself."
He doesn't bother giving Rafayel a chance to retort, taking the punishment out on you as he dips his head underneath your folded-up shirt, groaning as his hot tongue rolls over your nipple, sucking at the stiff peak as his hand continues to assault the other. The onslaught has you whimpering, pushing and clawing against Xavierâs shoulder to try and fight him off as he refuses to let go for even a moment.Â
Rafayel's not one to be ignored, not when he has the advantage, and his tongue is back to fucking into your cunt with no reprieve, a cruel smirk on his face as you writhe and beg for their mercy.
Your hips roll, torn between pleasure and oversensitivity, unable to escape either of the men. It's overwhelming. Too much, too quickly, you only just came and you're already getting dragged back.
"Ah! Stop, I'm already mhmâ"
You're interrupted by Xavier's tongue slipping into your mouth, a filthy, lazy slide that makes you grind up into Rafayel's tongue. It's like he doesn't even need to breathe, the wet, sloppy sounds of him eating you out drowned out only by the sound of Xavier kissing you senseless, pausing just to nip and suck at your breasts as though he'll get rewarded if he just tries hard enough.Â
"You want him to stop? Is the mermaid not enough to satisfy you, princess?" Xavier taunts, lips brushing against your ear as his hips push up, grinding his cock against your thigh. "If that's the case, perhaps we should switch. I can give you exactly what you want, remember?"
âShut up, Iâm the one making her cum.â
âOnly cause I wasnât awake yet.â
âYou snooze, you lose. Whose fault is that? Oh ya, yours.âÂ
They're at each other's throats yet again, practically clawing and snapping at each other, and you're helpless to try and intervene when they take their faux anger out on your poor abused body.Â
You can't think, can't focus, can't do anything but shake and pant and sob into the pillow, their combined weight on top of you, forcing your pleasure higher and higher.Â
âXavâ" He cuts you off with a kiss.Â
âShh, just take it."
You can't even tell whoâs sloppier anymore- Xavier fucking your mouth with his tongue or Rafayel still eating you through your second orgasm, the sudden hit of it thundering down your body.Â
âYou look so pretty when you come," Xavier moans into your lips, his eyes half-lidded and glazed, hand coming up to stroke your cheek as he watches you, a sharp contrast to the other still rolling against your swollen nipple, loving the way you jerk into his touch. Then a glare to the man below. "My turn.â
Your body is still trembling, Rafayel's merciless fingers not allowing you to come down from your high, aftershocks of hypersensitivity crashing down your spine as every muscle spasms. No more. No more, please. You canât possibly come again.Â
You don't realize youâre begging out loud, not until Xavier shushes you with another bruising kiss.Â
But it doesn't seem like Rafayel has any plans on stopping, not until Xavierâs hand skims down your thighs and yanks him up by the chain of his necklace.Â
Rafayel growls as he's practically forced off your weeping cunt, eyes bleary and unfocused as he fights the blond's grip. And god, he looks absolutely wrecked, spit and cum dripping from his mouth and chin, connecting his lips to your pussy in sticky wet strands before they break, and you feel the unmistakable bulge of his cock straining against his soaked boxers.Â
Xavier yanks him forward, pulling the necklace chain until he crashes his lips onto Rafayel's, all teeth and tongue, desperate to get a taste of your cum from his mouth. It's filthy, and Rafayel is the first to give in, still drunk off your taste and now Xavier's too.
"Mhm, you taste like her," Xavier whispers, pulling him closer until their bodies are pressed together, his mouth still moving against Rafayel's swollen, parted lips.
"Ya?" Rafayelâs grin is predatory, all fang and sin. "You wanna try too, donât you? Give in then, bunny, lie down for us.â
"I don't take orders from you."Â
Xavier scowls against Rafayel's lips, but you can feel his resolve breaking, his arm trembling where it rests against your thigh.Â
"No, you take them from her, and she asked us so, so nicely to make her come. You wouldn't dare deny her that, would you?â
The Lemurian is nothing if not dangerously persistent, one hand coaxing Xavier backward so gently you donât think he realizes how easily heâs falling, the other clawing down his abs as Rafayel bites against the erratic thud of Xavierâs pulse. Sharp and bruising, a silent promise for what to come. "Or do you wanna eat her out like I did? Have her ride your face while I fuck into her poor, desperate cunt? I can't decide, there are so many options."
âNo.â Itâs more a plea than a demand. Xavier's voice shakes with need, and you watch, dizzy and panting, as Rafayel's fingers slip underneath the waistband of Xavier's boxers. His fingers, still dripping with your cum, brush down the length of his cock, thumb circling the sensitive head and smearing the copious amount of pre-cum leaking from it. âYou had y-your turn.âÂ
He can hardly finish his objection, not when Rafayelâs thumb comes up to abuse his leaking slit, Xavierâs words slurring into a desperate whine as he practically collapses back onto his elbows. Immediately, Rafayel is atop him.
"A competition, then." Rafayel leans down to whisper into Xavier's ear, but the words are purposefully teased out loud enough for you to hear, âBut you lose if you cum first, and I get to fuck her.â
It's a low blow, a challenge he knows Xavier can't turn down.Â
A challenge that somehow has you poised once again as the torment and the reward.
And it's true, because the second the words register, the blond's eyes shoot open, and his cock jerks violently against Rafeyelâs palm, a broken sound leaving his lips as his eyes lock back onto yours with all the promise of a starving hunter.
"Deal.â
Xavier doesn't allow the agreement to go without a price. Something snaps, the bedroom flickering with a sudden darkness as all the light vanishes.Â
One moment, youâre lying against the bed, and the next Xavier manhandles you to your knees, one hand forcing your arms behind your back as he tugs you against him, the other pinning Rafayel to the mattress.
Rafayelâs the very picture of smug sin, the feral expression far more genuine, less threatening and much more amused as he nestles further into the pillows, one arm tucked lazily behind his head.Â
Cold fingers dance up your hips, and Rafayel drags your bare cunt over his thighs and onto his lap, a pleased sigh escaping his lips as you're pinned deliciously between his cock and Xavier's sculpted back.
"So needy, little bunny."
"Shut up. I'm not the one who's leaking."
Rafayel snorts, and before the two can start fighting again, you're leaning forward, a hand resting against Rafayel's abs as you cup his erection through his boxers. And when he moans you believe every myth, every fairytale singing the doom of sailors to a siren song, because every sound he gives you is addictive and sweet enough that youâd drown to hear it again.Â
Pulling Rafayel's cock out from his boxers, youâre stunned yet again by the slightly non-human beauty of it, heavy and thick in your palm, the flushed, ruddy tip already drooling precum as you thumb at it in vengeance. You know Xavier's watching from the way his own cock twitches against your back, hands digging bruises into your hips. Then, the warmth at your back disappears.Â
Instead, a pair of hands drag your ass up, forcing you into a deep arch as you scramble for purchase against Rafayelâs thigh and the bed below.
âCloser.â Xavierâs hand laces into your hair as he pushes your head down, forcing your mouth to nuzzle against the base of Rafayel's cock.Â
The movement pulls a gasp from both of you, your hot breath teasing the sensitive skin of Rafayel's shaft and forcing a shudder from his entire body.Â
Seeing the two of you completely at his mercy does terrible, horrible things to Xavier, and his fingers dig bruises into your hips as it takes him everything not to forgo the competition and fuck you right there.Â
"Good girl,â he hums, voice trembling as his grip tightens against your hair, giving you a harsh glare when you whine and squirm in his hold. "Now open."
You can't bring yourself to say no, not when the sight of Rafayel's eyes rolling back the second you do makes your stomach clench. His cock twitches against you as you lick at the copious amounts of cum leaking from his tip, then obediently wrap your lips around him.
With a smile that would have you shaking, Xavier leans down, barely able to continue guiding your head as heâs entranced with the mess between your legs, licking up the slick dripping down your thighs as he sucks against the delicate flesh, marking right over the sensitive bruises Rafayel had only just left behind.Â
 âThis- hah-â Rafayel curses under his breath, the single word breaking off into a moan, the sound muffled by his palm as his chest heaves. âThis is hardly fair.â
But his complaints feel half-hearted, not with the way heâs already rutting into your mouth, Xavierâs iron grip keeping you in place as Rafayel thrusts himself into your mouth in one breath. You yield pathetically quick, flattening your tongue against the slick underside of his cock, another stream of pre-cum flooding your mouth as you nearly choke on it all, unable to pull off to even take a breath as Xavier guides your head up and down in a steady rhythm that has Rafayel falling apart.Â
Itâs cruel, but you can't help each pathetic moan that gets muffed onto Rafayelâs cock, the vibrations forcing his back to arch off the bed, head rolling back as it thuds against the pillows, Adam's apple bobbing as he gulps in shallow breaths.
You almost wish he would let you see his eyes, but then you'd miss the view of his chest, every muscle tight and twitching under his skin, the mesmerizing sight now blurry from the tears forming in your eyes. You can't resist reaching up, dragging your nails down his abs, watching his body jerk against every new line of red.
"Please,â you're not sure if the broken whimper belonged to Rafayel or yourself. âPlease, I can't wait anymore, wanna feel youâ fuckâ wanna fill you up again, please let me cum." It's like just the very thought has Rafayel keening, his hips jerking up into your hot mouth with reckless abandon as Xavier forces your spine up into a deeper arch.
You're nearly bent in half, the new angle leaving no part of you hidden from Xavier's hungry gaze as he watches you practically drool over Rafayelâs cock, lips meeting his pelvis as he breaches your throat.Â
Xavierâs going to win. He needs to win.Â
The thought makes him frantic, tongue fucking past the tight resistance of your cunt, his hand sliding up to tease at your clit. He won't be the one to finish first, not this time. Not when he's wanted nothing more than to feel your cunt gushing around him ever since Rafayel woke him up, ever since the two of you had the audacity to start this without him.
Rafayel canât last much longer, especially not when you bring one shaking hand down to massage his swollen balls, hardly in control of your own movements as you feel dizzy on the addictive combination from the lack of oxygen and pleasure as Xavier begins to eat you out like a man starved.Â
The roomâs filled with the sounds of each slick, messy movement, whimpers from the man beneath you and breathless pleas from the one behind, bed rattling with every thrust.Â
And yet youâre still so painfully empty. So, so, empty as your cunt flutters around Xavierâs tongue before he relents to kiss your clit once more, dragging a dissatisfied whine from you as you fight yourself off Rafayelâs cock.Â
"F-fuck me. Please," A sob, and you feel both Rafayel and Xavier shudder. "Itâs not enough. Want your cocks inside me, wanna cum on it. Need it, please-"
Oh, and when you beg like that, they should have known they never would have stood a chance.
"Shit."
"Ah, please-"
It's a blur. A rush of hands, of pleasure and pain, all of it colliding and dragging you to the edge. The room spins, the ceiling above you falling until the familiar, comforting feeling of slick muscle embraces you, grounding you as you focus on the erratic heartbeat between each ragged exhale.Â
You're still sandwiched between them, lying on Rafayel as Xavier's weight drapes across your back, head propped up on the former's chest as you stare blearily at his silver pendant, unable to move. You're not even sure if you can, not with the way Xavier's still gripping the backs of your thighs, spreading you open as he forces one leg higher up.
Then, the blunt head of his cock grinds between your folds.
Xavierâs pressing his forehead against your back, wrapping his arms around you before biting into the crook of your neck. "You mean it? Youâll let us come inside again?"
Rafayel laughs, a raspy sound still raw from his orgasm. "Well, we both lost. Now what, bunny? We can't just leave her like this, poor thing is trembling."Â
"Mhm,â Xavier forces you up, âWe both fuck her then."
His words only make you whimper, body jerking uselessly against Xavier's grip. His hands lift you as Rafayel flips you around so you're now facing the blond, flinching violently as his cock brushes your swollen clit, any semblance of protest quelled as Xavier pulls you into another messy kiss.Â
Itâs demanding, Xavier mumbling achingly sweet praises into your open mouth as he begins to press you down, faster, harsher, forcing you onto Rafayelâs lap in a reverse cowgirl as you slide down slowly, taking inch by inch of Rafayelâs throbbing cock. Thereâs hardly any blue left in Xavierâs blow-out pupils, too mesmerized by the slick mess youâre gushing down their thighs. And just when you begin to squirm, impatient and desperate, Xavier slows their pace even more.
"Shhh, we need to make sure you'll be able to take both of us."
Rafayel's hand is wrapped around your waist, thumb rubbing small circles into your stomach, and if it weren't for Xavier's arms locked around you, holding you upright, you would have collapsed the second Rafayel pressed into the spot his fingers had found.
"Look at you," he purrs, a low sound that has you gasping. "So pretty when youâre needy. Can you feel me?"
It's hard not to. Everywhere feels warm, and every slow thrust, no matter how gentle, has a small burst of ecstasy building in your stomach, a wave crashing higher and higher as the two of them slowly fuck you full. Just as youâre nearly seated all the way onto Rafayelâs length, Xavierâs palms come up to the back of your knees, folding them up and forcing you backward until youâre practically lying prone atop of Rafayel.
Your head lolls uselessly against Rafayel's neck, gasping at the force of the new position, and you're not sure if it's the tears in your eyes or the overwhelming pressure against your walls as they stretch around his cock that's making the world so blurry. Xavier soon follows you down, pressing you closer into Rafayelâs chest as his lips trail your jaw, your neck, your sucking against every sensitive spot behind your ears until you're distracted from the pain.
"You're doing so good, princess. Just a little more."
The sudden onslaught of pressure of both of you atop him has Rafayel flinching, and he hisses out a pained moan, hips jerking up into the slick heat of your pussy, and it's only Xavier's grip that keeps the two of you from slipping off.
"Hah- hurry up-" Rafayel's eyes are glassy, his head tipped back and face twisted in pleasure.Â
Strings of incoherent pleas are whispered against your ear, Rafayel marking up the left side of your neck while Xavierâs still busy with the right, that is, until Xavier switches sides, biting right over Rafayelâs marks until heâs pulled up into a desperate kiss.
The wet sounds of their lips are filthy and obscene, each hot breath and moan brushing past your ear as you writhe, pressed between them. Rafayel's cock is already swelling, twitching against the fluttering walls of your pussy, unwilling to fully pull out, settling to just grinding up in slow, cruel thrusts before something in him snaps and he switches to pounding against your abused walls.
Every time you think youâll finally come Rafayel switches pace, the obscene slap of skin on skin muffled only by your sobs and their kissing.Â
Youâre close, so so fucking close you feel your muscles begin to shake. Xavier only pushes you down further, every angle a new cruelty, smothering you between them, rendering you unable to do anything but take it.
Again, Rafayel slows, and you slur curses down at him as your thighs tremble from overstimulation, shaking violently until you feel something grab your calf. Xavier massages the quivering muscle, gentle until heâs suddenly pressing your knee higher and higher, going until itâs pinned to the mattress up against your head.
And now Rafayel is hitting impossibly deeper, abusing your poor g-spot with each thrust.Â
Xavier kisses your ankle, then calf, making his way up your leg until he can nip at your inner thighs now folded over his shoulder. And then you feel the pressure of his cock at your already full entrance. Xavierâs hand dips down between your bodies, trying to bully himself in alongside Rafayel, but his cock slides past your navel, slick and covered in your combined cum.Â
"No, no no, not gonna fit- ah- Xavier!"
Your words break off into a wail as he tries again, grinding closer so youâre tightly cradled between the two, Xavier leaning fully atop you both. A snarl grits through his jaw when his cock slips past again, readjusting you so your legs fall apart wider, the burn in your thighs turning delicious and overwhelming, pussy weeping around Rafayelâs cock as Xavierâs swollen, leaking head bumps against your clit.Â
Xavier watches the mess, every thrust and messy squirt of cum, brows furrowed and flushed a deep red, as he whines into your shoulder, "Please- can't stop- please let me fuck you too, you'll look so pretty with both of us filling you up, taking us so good- donât make me stop."
Heâs reduced to babbling against your neck, biting down hard enough to bleed when your cunt finally yields to him too, cockhead bumping into Rafayelâs as he slowly pushes in inch and inch, trembling from the combined pleasure of your walls and the violent throbbing of every vein now grinding together.
It's too much, itâs not enough, the stretch and the friction and the pressure leaving you fucked stupid, hands scrambling for purchase. Rafayel grunts when your nails drag across his thighs, his own hands coming to latch onto your wrists, pinning them above his head, forcing you motionless between them.
You can do nothing but sob, tears streaming down your face as your entire body convulses. And when they finally, finally bottom out together, the world goes white.
"Shh, you're alright," Rafayel soothes, although his voice is trembling, the sound broken as he tries to catch his breath. "Doing so well for us, cutie, so perfect."
Xavier growls, his hands grabbing the headboard. He's barely holding on, not with the way Rafayel's cock twitches against his own, your hot walls clenched tightly around the two of them as you beg.
"Please, can't- too much, more, I need-"
There's a broken sob, and then Xavierâs slamming his hips forward, fucking into you with a brutality he usually saves for Rafayel, the force sending the three of you rocking against the mattress, headboard splintering under the strength of his grip. The other leaves to thumb at your nipples, lips following suit as he rambles, drunk off your pussy, "These would look s'pretty filled, even more sensitive. Bet you'd let us milk you, fill you up even more."
"And here, you'll feel us here too, won't you?" A hand moves lower- whose you no longer are coherent enough to care- brushing over the swell of your abdomen, the slight bulge appearing and disappearing where both of them are thrusting violently into you. "Be a waste not to. Imagine it, a painted mess filled with us.â
And you are. You can't think about anything else, not with the way they're stuffing you fullâ every time Rafayel's cock would settle near your g-spot Xavierâs would ram back in, forcing the former up against your cervix before pulling out entirely, repeating the vicious rhythm as the pain bled into pleasure.Â
Tears stream down the side of your face, room spinning into dizziness until all that remains are the burning trails of their touch, the only things keeping you grounded.Â
Rafayel's sucking into your shoulder, biting the sweat-slicked flesh, and you can feel his hips begin to stutter underneath you, already reaching his high despite Xavier still pounding into you with the same intensity, desperate to catch up.
The moment Xavier feels Rafayel's release, it's over. Your back arches up against him, convulsing against their hold, your abused walls clenching down so tightly that youâre practically begging for them to come inside, sucking them in deeper and deeper until itâs impossible for them not to follow.
It's a violent orgasm, hot squirt of your cum drenching Xavierâs abs, the intensity of it causing Rafayelâs vision to white out too, unable to hear the desperate sounds of your moans, not when his blood is rushing past his ears.
Then, the world comes crashing back.
Rafayelâs panting, still thrusting weakly into the slick, tight heat as he emptied himself inside you, the sheer overload of it gushing down your legs and onto the sheets.Â
"Ah- Xavier," you whine, the sound muffled into his chest as Xavier continues to chase after his high, too lost in his late orgasm to pull out.
The overstimulation is torture, your body twitching and trembling with every sloppy thrust. The moment he finally pulls out, the mess follows, thick, white rivets leaking down your thighs, the sheer volume near damn concerning had you the capacity to focus on it.
Rafayel laughs, fingers swirling through the cum as though painting your thighs, "That's not going to be easy to clean up."
"S'gonna look pretty. Messy. Full." Xavier murmurs, still pinning the both of you beneath him as he collapses in exhaustion, fingers dancing over the small swell in your stomach. Pressing lightly, he watches in fascination as their mixed cum gushes out faster, and you whimper, gripping his wrists to stop before they get any more ideas.Â
You're not sure what's worse, the fact that they're both still hard and the way they're looking at you, or the fact that their words have your exhausted body already trying to recover, a shiver running through your sore muscles as the room's cool air brushes over the slick, sticky mess between your thighs.
"You're both so disgusting," you groan, the words coming out slurred and barely audible.Â
"You love it."
"Yeah," Xavier's agreement is soft and almost hesitant. "You love us."
"Yes, I love both of you. Now get the fuck off of me." A shove, your shaking arm barely affecting Xavier as he finally relents, a small smile on his lips as he rolls the three of you down into the bed, resting on your sides.Â
The muscles in your thighs scream in relief as theyâre finally placed down, every inch of your body sore and marked up in one way or another, every visible bruise and bite getting pampered in faux apologies by the two men snuggling up next to you.
Itâs a tangle of limbs, Xavier already claiming your chest again as he nuzzles into your breasts while Rafayel simply curls himself around your back. A hand there, an arm there, and a little more muffled bickering. Yet you all fit together, and sleep comes easy now.Â
And the nightmares never return.Â

hello, lovely! is it okay to request a short fic wherein gojoâs pregnant wife (y/n) stole his kikufuku? thank u! (missing soft gojo hours đ)
đ. đ§đšđđ: omg stoooop this is so cute and sweet, what!?
âč đđšđ§đđđ§đđŹ: Gojo x pregnant afab/fem! reader - tooth-rotting fluff - pet names (angel, baby, stars and moon, sweetheart) - Gojo being a big crybaby over sweets - so soft, i was smiling while writing, hehe~.
âč đ°đšđ«đ đđšđźđ§đ: 1.1k
THUD!
ââŠ!â You jolt, immediately looking to the entrance of the living room to see your husband. âGojo! You okay?â
The white-haired man stands still with a gawked expression, eyes covered by his black blindfold with his usual Jujutsu Tech attire, and you can assume the noise came from the souvenir bags he dropped to the floor.
ââŠY/n, my angelic stars and moon,â he finally speaks after a few seconds of silence, and you can see his lips quiver with trembling hands. âIsâŠIs that my last kikufuku?âÂ
If there is one thing Gojo loved more than anything other than you, it would be his undying love for sweets! You could never find him without any at his disposal; heâd have a bunch of lollipops in his pockets, be licking popsicles or soft serves while monitoring his first years during their missions, or typically stop by a cafĂ© and grab some crepes for dessert to take home and share with you. Heâs known to have a childish heart, and sweets are his weakness!
His all-time favorite would be the mochi delicacy he often gets during his mission trips to Sendai, and heâs always sure to buy a whole box worth to make the long trip up North worth it. Kikufuku, the crushed edamame and cream-filled mochi, is Gojoâs favorite sweet to eat â youâre a witness to him happily stuffing his face with them lying on the couch after a hard dayâs work. Heâs the type to eat one every week until he can return to Sendai and get more.Â
This week was the very last one he had saved, secured in the cold fridge for him to eat once he got home. And he wasnât going to Sendai anytime soon, so he planned on treasuring and savoring it the moment he stepped inside and lay beside his pregnant partner to chill on this blissful spring evening.
He could never get over the sight of you whenever he came home. Gojo loved his partner so much that he swears he would burn the world if you commanded him to, which you knew is an exaggeration, but his love is true. The day he got on one knee and heard you say yes to his proposal was the happiest heâd ever been, sweeping you off your feet, putting you in your dream puffy white dress, and officially becoming the spouse of the strongest sorcerer in the jujutsu world! And now you were swole with his child!? Not even God could strike this man to calm him down of his glee.
You were sitting on the living room couch like you always did, waiting for your husband to return, wearing a black maternity one-piece that comfortably molded around your figure and a blue flannel shirt â his flannel ïżœïżœïżœ to keep you warm. Gojo came home with souvenirs to share and impress, a huge smile just from thinking about your reactions.Â
However, the sight has him gasp dramatically loud and drop everything to the wooden floor, because he saw something in your hand, something that broke his heart noticing the green and white filling apparent from a bite on an undeniable white rice cake.Â
You were eating the very last of his kikufukuâŠHow could you!?
You blinked at him, then turned to the sweet in your hand, and the realization of what you were doing finally hit you. âOh! Iâm sorry, Satoru! I was feeling snacky.â
The tall man teeters to where youâre sitting, whining with every step. âSo why didnât you eat your snacks, sweetheart?â
âI donât know?â You shrugged, licking bits of the edamame cream off your middle finger. âThey didnât seem like what I was craving for. I wanted something sweet, ya know? And I finished my ice cream two nights ago, so this was all I could find.â
âYeah, but like,â you can tell his eyebrows were scrunched together even if the black material concealed his upper face. âThat was my last one, baby! Plus, you couldâve texted me youâd eat it, or I couldâve stopped somewhere to grab you something sweet!â
âI know! But, you were very busy today; a big mission up in Kyoto and a meeting with Principal Yaga, soooâŠâ you squished the mochi gently, licking more of the filling coming out. âI didnât wanna interrupt or bother youâŠâ
âBut stilllll~!âGod, you were so cute when you cared for him, you almost made him forget the whole thing then and there. But you canât hate the man for being a little upset, right? Gojo sighs and places his cheek on your belly. âLittle booger, you hear what your momma is doing to me? So cruel~.â
You gasped. âHey! Donât say that to them!â Your free hand tries to yank him off your tummy by the hair, yet he doesnât budge as he exclaims painfully. âWhat, are you saying the pregnant love of your life is some villain because they ate one of your sweets? As if I never caught you taking scoops of my favorite ice cream!? Have you no shame, Gojo Satoru!â
He swats your hand off his snowy hair, âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry!â Between you and Principal Yaga, there is a scarce few Gojo would allow to beat him up for his foolishness. He turns his head â still above the baby â to face you and releases a sigh. âIâm sorry, I was just really stoked Iâd get to have that kikufuku; itâll be a long while before I go get moreâŠUghhh.â Another sigh is exerted, and you can only shake your head with rolled eyes. Heâs such a baby.
You bring his blindfold down to his chin to free the azure eyes heâs been hiding since this morning, and his hair falls from its spiky appearance. Then, you separate the mochi into two and push one to his lips, âYou happy now?â You say with a grin. âIâm sorry, but I wanted to give these a try. Besides, weâll have a little one to look after soon; wouldnât it be nice for them to know what their father likes to snack on from time to time?â
Now, how in the world could Gojo still be upset with that logic? Being a father is a foreign concept heâs accepting with open arms, sharing the experience with the person he values and cherishes the most. To have a child with you is the highest honor of all for him. And imagining his small family happy and eating sweets together under his care makes his cheeks show a subtle shade of pink.
He smiles as he accepts the piece of the rice cake, chuckling when you flick his nose playfully. âYouâre so sweet, angel.â

FLASH WARNING!!!
Did I spend several hours hunting for scene-packs so I could make this? Yes. Yes, I did. Ghost/"Lux"/Volchista FAN VIDEO for my reader-insert series đ€đ€ ;; fic can be found here ;; đ€đ€đ€
I know that since it's an x reader fic, the reader isn't described, so consider this my like...face claim? fancast? I'm not sure what the right word would be. I guess if reader was an OC, then this is how I'd see her lol. I did something similar for my Sandman Fic. It was fun to make :) even tho it was a little tedious cuz i had to 'trim' the clips slowly due to following the template but it's fiiiine. We love ~battle couples~ in this household.

You begin to have intimate dreams about your roommate, Spencer. [9k]
c: pining roommates, dreams, tipsy non-confessions, spencer being a sweetheart. fem!reader. this fic was requested!Â
ïœĄđŠč°â§â.
i. a dreamt bruiseÂ
âWhat are you doing?âÂ
Your chest lists slightly forward as a body warms your back. Arms wrap around you, solid but gentle, arms youâve been held by a thousand times.Â
You cover them with one of your own. âWhat does it look like Iâm doing?â you feel yourself ask.Â
The room is golden, gaussian, better now heâs behind you.
âI donât know, dove. Thatâs why I asked.â His voice is soft in your ear. His hair presses to the side of your face as he hugs you âyouâve never felt love like this. Itâs palpable. Itâs in his hands.Â
Nobodyâs called you dove before, but he is, he has. It might feel strange if it werenât for how softly he said it, affection in the very marrow of the word, warmth of it kissing your cheek as he holds you. He says âdoveâ, and it feels like he loves you. Feels like youâve done something beautiful to earn it, but thatâs the beauty of it: you didnât do anything.Â
The room turns narrow, sunlight on the dining room table of your apartment. A table usually crowded thickly with books, or your work. A space has been cleared away and filled with pieces of a jigsaw.Â
âI thought you were going to do this with me,â you say, dragging a piece across the table with your fingertip.Â
âMaybe later.âÂ
âYou canât stand there all night.âÂ
Are you sure? you think he says, but things are hazy, and heâs turning you toward him suddenly, youâre standing, the puzzle forgotten. âHowâs your bruise?âÂ
âWhat?â you ask, almost sleeping as a big, kind hand drags up the front of your shirt, holding it to the underside of your breast.Â
âDoes it still hurt?âÂ
His thumb brushes over your contusion, skin on your side, your back. Itâs tender. Any breath is lost, any sense of breathing at all. Youâre not a girl so much as something being touched with care, warm joy and love and a contrasting ache wedged under your heart as he draws a circles into your skin.Â
He hums sympathetically, the weight of him ebbing as he leans away, letting your shirt fall back into place.Â
The dream stretches on for a lifetime, the two of you standing in your living room, dining table behind you, couch and TV opposite. Your life in one room, his life, his books, his furniture, but your home. You know it all well, just, in the light, you canât see the stitching.Â
He takes your face into his hand. Nobodyâs ever touched you like, turned your face up like they were moving through honey, staring at you with eyes that shade of brown. Brown, brown⊠so big. So melting.Â
Spencer holds your face gently.Â
His nose touches yours. He tips his forehead into yours, his breath skimming lips heâd just warmed as he says, âDonât worry, alright? Youâll be okay. Just take it easy,â he says, the last of his pleading lost to your mouth.Â
You wake up with a caught breath.Â
Your eyes are glued together, eyelashes threaded, gummy. You turn into the pillow beside you, slightly deflated and cold where youâd turned away in the night.Â
The room is dark when you manage to pry your eyes open. You close them just as quickly, begging your body to sleep, to plunge back into the dream. Just five more minutes of golden colour, hugging your pillow, love in somebodyâs hand, in Spencerâs hand⊠five more minutesâŠ
Your eyes open again.Â
Spencerâs hand on your cheek, guiding you carefully upwards for a kiss.Â
You raise your hand, feeling along the swell of your bottom lip with your thumb and index finger. They tremble with the weakness of having just woken up. With having something torn away from you.Â
What was that? you think, the hook of sleep lodged in your throat as you struggle to sit up. Your face tips forwards heavily, but your back doesnât hurt like it tends to in the early mornings before work. Thereâs no ache there âyour body slept well. You use your hands as anchors and drag yourself foot first from the bed. Your sheets fall to the floor with a quiet shush.Â
It felt so real that for a moment youâre wondering where Spencer went.Â
He was touching you, he was caressing your waist. You rush to the door of your room, every night left ajar, pushing it open and beelining for the bathroom. You flick on the light and stop in front of the mirror, staring at yourself, wondering if youâre foolish enough to do this, before peeling your shirt from your stomach to analyse your bruise.Â
Itâs not there.Â
You turn and contort yourself to catch the light. Maybe it was further back? But no⊠thereâs no bruise, nothing for Spencer to check. Your torso is a stretch of unharmed skin to run your hand down without pain.Â
Your head whirs.Â
From somewhere in the apartment, Spencer puts down a mug. You flush with heat at the realisation that heâs home, and panic flares when his footsteps move in your direction. Your bedrooms are on opposite sides of the apartment, and there are two bathrooms âthe bath and toilet near your room, and the en-suite to his roomâ meaning Spencerâs coming to see you specifically.Â
âHey, Y/N?â he says.Â
Itâs been a few days since he was home, and you arenât just roommates, Spencerâs your friend. He sounds happy that youâre awake, pausing at your bedroom door.Â
âIâm in the bathroom!â you say, your dry throat turning your voice to fractures.Â
âI just wanted you to know Iâm home. Are you working?âÂ
âItâs Saturday.â
He laughs. âOh. I know, I forgot. Well, can I make you breakfast? I was gonna have oats and sliced bananas and stuff.âÂ
âOkay.â You clear your throat. âIâll be right there.âÂ
âSorry,â he says, like heâs just remembered where you are. âThis is harassment. Iâll be in the kitchen.âÂ
You wash your face and brush your teeth. You head back into your room to change from your pyjamas into loungewear thatâs just as soft. The flavour of your dream follows you around, youâd like to call it sweetness, saccharinity, but it doesnât fit the bill. The feeling youâd woken with wasnât a sugar high but contentedness, like a warm evening meal. Youâd felt utterly sated, your arms reaching out for a body that wasnât there.Â
A heaviness takes your heart. Suffocating longing, you carry it to the kitchen with you to find Spencerâs already made you a cup of your tea. Heâs warming oatmeal on the stove, blueberries and bananas on the countertop. You sit at the island. You should hug him. If you hadnât dreamt of his hands on your waist what felt like mere moments ago, you wouldâve.Â
âDid you go shopping?âÂ
âI did, I went to Leaven last night. You were already sleeping at ten.â He peeks at you from over his shoulder. âLong day yesterday?âÂ
âI get too tired by Friday,â you say, averting your gaze to stare down into your mug, steam twirling up to kiss your chin.Â
âNo, I get it. Me too. Are you feeling any better today?âÂ
You were sick when he left. âIâm fine.âÂ
âOkay, good. Iâm gonna put the blueberries in with the oatmeal, is that okay?âÂ
âSure.âÂ
âOkay.â Spencerâs gaze lingers on you. He turns back to the counter.Â
He cuts two bananas. You realise he has strawberries, too, watching as he cuts them, wetness leaking from their punnets where he mustâve rinsed them in the sink. He slices out the stems and cuts the strawberries in clean halves like hearts.Â
âI missed you,â he says.Â
You canât read his tone, but you arenât cruel, even feeling shy as you are. âI missed you too. How was the case? Everyone made it home in one piece, right?âÂ
âEveryoneâs fine. Emily got into a car accident and it was pretty bad, but sheâs okay now. Recovering from her concussion at home with Sergei.âÂ
Thatâs good. Youâve met Spencerâs boss, Agent Hotchner (very scary), and Emily, JJ, and Penelope (who arenât scary at all). Youâre glad to hear theyâre all okay, because theyâre good people, and they risk a lot to keep others safe. You forget sometimes how much Spencer puts on the line whenever he leaves.Â
You poke at him for details of the case, though legally there are things he has to keep from you, and you donât mind either way. Nothing personal can crop up while talking of murder, and for now youâd like the conversation to stay far away from you and your bed and your sudden dream.Â
You assume youâre safe, but then Spencer mentions the bruise one of the sergeants got from their weaponâs kickback and youâre flushing nervously all over again.Â
Spencer grabs two bowls from the cabinet, dark brown ceramics he got from Koreatown, the perfect size for each helping of oatmeal. The purple from the insides of the blueberries bleed into the oats as he pours.
He lays each bowl with a curve of banana slices, strawberries, and covers half with a drizzle of dark fudge sauce. âSalt?â he asks.Â
âYes, please.âÂ
Spencer grabs two spoons from the cutlery drawer. He grins when he finally turns, bowls held aloft, making his way to the stool beside you. He puts his own down first, then the cutlery, standing ever so slightly behind you as he lays your breakfast down in front of you. âWhat have you been doing while I was away?â he asks softly.Â
You canât look at him. Canât think.Â
What are you doing?Â
What does it look like Iâm doing?Â
I donât know, dove. Thatâs why I asked.Â
You lean away from his presence, desperate to have him follow, and ashamed. Spencerâs a friend, a good one, heâs kind and loving and handsome beyond description, but youâve never thought of him like that. Each time your mind slips wondering what he might be like in love, youâve let the thought go. But now...Â
You shrug, grabbing your spoon. âNot much, Spencer. This looks amazing, itâs really pretty. Thank you for cooking.âÂ
âNo problem. Are you sure youâre feeling better? You donât look so good.âÂ
You take a quick bite of oatmeal, the spoon scalding your tongue, âAh,â you say, breathing harshly around it, âIâm fine. Woke up a little wrong, thatâs all.âÂ
Spencer sits in the seat next to you with a soft smile. âGood. I donât know what Iâd do if something happened to you.âÂ
Oh, no, you think, reading way too much into how he says it. No, no, no.
â
ii factsÂ
We should explore the city, Spencer declares after breakfast, before we forget what itâs like to be outside!
You were outside yesterday before you got home, and everything sucked as much as it usually did âitâs the weekend, and the point of it is to stay home resting and or lazing, but you wouldnât usually say no to Spencer so you canât now. He canât ever know about your dream, so he canât know how youâre feeling, so you have to be the friends youâve always been.Â
Spencer analyses people for a reason, but you have practice. Youâve successfully hidden what it was that morning that made you feel cagey and tender. He knows something is wrong regardless. He attempts to fix it the best way he knows how: Spencer talks.Â
âCheese production globally outshadows coffee, tea, tobacco, and chocolate, over twenty two million metric tons of it every year, with almost half of that made in Europe alone, which is only a half million metric ton more than whatâs being eaten. The average American eats forty two pounds of cheese a year, but I donât really like cheese that much? So Iâm bringing the average down. Besides, every time I eat cheese I get strange dreams. Thereâs actually a chemical in cheese called tyramine which is linked to nightmares. Hey, you okay?âÂ
âCheese gives you weird dreams?âÂ
âWhy, have you been eating a lot of it lately?âÂ
âNo,â you say resolutely. âI hate cheese. Iâve never eaten cheese before.âÂ
âThatâs a lie.âÂ
âLetâs get donuts.â
Spencer is easily swayed. You glance around the square for the McDonaldâs and follow that to the street with the bakery, landmark to landmark, until the smell of sugar and oil is strong enough to follow. âDo you wanna know something about donuts?â he asks, crushing in behind you as you pass through the heavy wooden door of the bakery and join the line.Â
âSure.âÂ
âThey were first called oily cakes.âÂ
âI knew that,â you say, âyouâve told me that, Spencer. Thatâs the first fact anybody thinks of.âÂ
âOkay, donât be rude,â he says, giving you a playful poke in the ribs, right into the bruise that isnât a bruise.Â
You look over your shoulder at him, catching his eye. You share a long look thatâs daunted on your part and confused on his, brown eyelashes tangling in the corners the longer he looks at you. âWhat?â he asks, squinting.Â
âNothing.âÂ
âOkay,â he says, his voice lowering, quiet to match the hush of the bakery and its humming fridges, âdonât tell me. Iâll work it out eventually.âÂ
âDude!âÂ
âWhat?â he asks with a laugh.Â
âBoundaries!â you laugh back. âStop trying to figure me out.âÂ
âBut thereâs something to figure out?âÂ
Heâs evil when he smiles like that. His pride is adorable, giving his sweet face an even fresher look. Youâd pinch his cheeks if they werenât already pinking in the October cold. His scarf hasnât saved him, his coat buttoned tightly no match for the winds. Not to say itâs a bad day. The weather is fine if you keep your fingers in your pockets and your nose in the depths of your coat.Â
âWhat do we want?â you ask rather than answer.Â
They have white icing, chocolate with sprinkles, jelly middles, smiley faces. They have donut holes by the bag. âHazelnut spread,â you say, pointing at the side of the case. âThat looks good.âÂ
He enters in conspiratorial whispers with you. âApple cider doughnuts with cinnamon sugar,â he says, pointing at the row below. âWhat about a double chocolate chunk cookie? They look good. Hey, thereâs cake in the fridge.âÂ
You let him lean into your side. His hair kisses your cheek. Â
âPick whatever you want, okay?â he asks, offering a smaller smile than before. âIâm buying.â
âYou canât, Spencer Reid, I want so many things.âÂ
âItâs fine, I missed you, I dragged you out when you wanted to stay in bed.â He stares at you. âLet me,â he mouths.Â
You ignore the hot twist of your stomach and nod. Okay.Â
Spencer buys the baked goods youâd admitted to wanting and the three others youâd eyed, as well as a cookie and two fat slices of red velvet cake. He asks you to carry the box while he pays. The woman behind the counter gives you a knowing look and a flick of her head, as if to say, Lucky you. You canât quite smile back, distracted by the insinuation. You havenât thought of it before, but you and Spencer, naturally, look like a couple. You could easily be one. And the idea that she thinks so fills you with a shocking amount of smugness.Â
You and Spencer head home before dinner. On the walk back, he pulls the cookie apart and offers you half.Â
â
What if, when you fall asleep tonight, you dream of Spencer again?Â
You lay on your back with your hand on your chest, drawing circles. The cold of the evening is explained by the rain lashing your window, distant winds coming forceful now. A thunderstorm. You tap the middle of your chest in an attempt to be idle, rather than restless.Â
It isnât a dream youâd like to have again, you decide. Spencer had been soft. Youâd been familiar with each other.Â
What would it really feel like to have him touch you like that? Is Spencer confident, when heâs comfortable? Is he imposing?Â
My stomach, you think slowly, is never going to stop spinning.Â
âY/N?â Spencer asks.Â
You can hear him all the way from the kitchen.Â
âYeah?â you ask, raising your voice so it carries.Â
âCan I come and sit with you?â
Itâs an odd request. You know Spencerâs like you, no social butterfly, quiet and content to spend time by oneself because being with others hasnât always been an option. He isnât timid, however, and his asking shouldnât shock you, but it does. âSure,â you say, shifting onto one side of the bed.Â
Spencer arrives at the ajar door and lets himself in. He carries two bottles of water and a heat pack, which he likes to use when the weather allows it. A creature comfort, you assume. Something soothing and constant, like the sound of a fan at night, or rain on a window.Â
âI canât sleep,â he says, âwhich doesnât make much sense.â Spencer sits on the empty side of the bed, his lips pulled into a grimace. âI like the rain.âÂ
Heâs more handsome when heâs smiling, but thereâs a charm to him as he passes you a bottle of water and crosses his legs. The plaid slacks heâs wearing are rough with age, dark blues that seem black in the low lighting.Â
âMaybe itâs because of work,â you say.Â
âMaybe, but Iâm pretty used to getting woken up.âÂ
âRight. Itâs not easy, though, the stuff you do. It would keep me up at night if I did your job.âÂ
âI think sometimes doing my job is the only reason I can sleep.âÂ
âIt's hard. Sounds hard, Spence.â You relax into your pillow, turning to see him. Spencerâs eyes run along your hip for a millisecond, just long enough to remind you that heâs a boy, that he could see you in a different light.Â
âItâs okay,â he says.Â
âWas it hard, this time?â you ask.Â
âNo,â he whispers. âI donât know, it was bad when Emily got hurt, but sheâs so stubborn. If Morgan didnât strap her down she wouldâve kept going like nothing happened.âÂ
You and Spencer have lived together for so long that you remember a time before he even knew Emily. You answered his ad in the paper âyou hadnât realised people still put ads in the paperâ looking for a roommate. His apartment was already furnished and he didnât want to change much, but the second bedroom was spacious and the bathroom could be monopolised. As a girl, youâd been a little dubious reading about a single male looking for any gender, but his self-description was inviting. Twenty-two, just finished a doctorate, working for the FBI and expected to be away from the state at least once a month.Â
Youâd met Spencer and felt even less intimidated. He was awkward and dorky but friendly, too, with his glasses he apparently didnât want to wear, but would eventually give in (before choosing contacts), and his big red sweater fit for a grandpa. âI can make more room for you but I canât get rid of the books,â he said, âso I donât expect you to pay a neat half.âÂ
How could you pass it up?Â
âI canât believe Iâve never met them,â you say.Â
âDo you want to?âÂ
He sounds so surprised. âTheyâre your friends. Iâm your⊠friend.âÂ
âYouâre my best friend. Iâll arrange something, or try to. Itâs hard to get us all in one room when that room isnât the conference room,â he says.Â
âYou look nice in a t-shirt,â you say, not thinking as the words come out.Â
Spencer leans in to whisper, âThanks. You like this one?âÂ
His t-shirt says, I may be NErDy, but only periodically. The NErDy is made up of elements from the periodic table. Itâs a bad pun.Â
âI love it.âÂ
He reaches for you. Tentative, he squeezes your elbow. âIs there something wrong? All day itâs like⊠I donât know, did something happen when I was gone?âÂ
âDonât worry about it.âÂ
âButâŠâÂ
âPlease,â you say, as he catches the last bit of light from the hallway, every eyelash illuminated for the counting. âI donât wanna talk about it, Spencer. But thank you.âÂ
He, in a move thatâs almost uncharacteristic, pushes your arm into the mattress and leans over you. âI wanna be the first one to know when you do wanna talk,â he says firmly, holding your gaze.Â
Howâs your bruise?Â
You nod mechanically. Spencer recedes. âOkay, good,â he says, grinning.Â
âGood,â you echo, thinking of Spencer in the dream, his hand on your hip and climbing up your sore ribs. âLetâs watch TV.âÂ
â
iii. scared of snowÂ
âYouâre being weird.âÂ
âIâm not,â you refute.Â
âYou are.âÂ
Spencer frowns at you, a show full downturn of the lips. A dusting of snow lands in his hair and you both look up to catch it, a drift of it from the marquee as you pass. You donât remember when it started snowing, but it feels like itâs been coming down for days. Itâs in his eyelashes. Your sleeves are wet with it.Â
âThe snowâs making you strange.â
You hold out your hand with fingers parted, feeling his laugh travelling down his arm and into yours as he takes it, intertwining your fingers tightly. He doesnât feel cold.Â
âItâs making you strange,â you mumble.Â
You and Spencer walk down a cobbled road. Snow crunches under your shoes, turned to slush in the high traffic spots by vendors booths left curiously empty of shopkeepers, though their festive wares still line the insides, carved cuckoo birds and metal ornaments, glass balls made to be personalised for mantles. You can smell orange oil and chocolate fudge, crepe carts and churros and cinnamon, and then suddenly any hint of your olfactory sense is gone.Â
âItâs so quiet.âÂ
âItâs the snow,â he says, pulling your arm against his chest as you walk and walk, your footsteps the only sound. âIt acts as a sound absorber when itâs fluffy like this. The sound waves get caught.âÂ
Caught. You think, or say, not sure if it makes it out of your mouth.Â
âLike you,â he says, stopping in the middle of the road.Â
âWhat?â you ask.Â
Snow lands in his eyelashes. âYouâre caught,â he says.Â
You wake up thinking his hand is on your cheek. Like a nightmare, you start, still picturing his lips moving around the words. Caught, you think again, heart a hummingbird in your chest. Your mouth is dry. The heat is up âSpencer must be home again.Â
You suck in a deep breath and sit up, curling over yourself protectively.Â
You dream about Spencer more often than ever, and half the time theyâre normal dreams, which is to say, they follow no rhyme or reason, with no discernible plot. Spencer loses all his teeth, or he takes you to the movies to see one of his long Swedish films, or heâs an afterthought, a bystander. The main plot of your dream doesnât involve him at all.Â
But the other half of the time is ruining your life. You dream of Spencer holding your hand like you had been, or touching your shoulder. Never again do you dream of that tender bruise, but Spencer lifts your shirt in other scenarios. He pulls your pyjamas off, his hand inching between your legs but never touching, or he helps you out of your bra. And every time you think, why is this happening to me? Perhaps a sex dream could be explained away by want and Spencerâs proximity, but all these constant intimacies weigh heavy in your head.Â
You head to the shower and picture Spencer helping you out of your bra, and all of you goes hot, so you turn the water to lukewarm and stand until youâre cold to the point of misery. You clamber out and shiver into a towel, then your robe.Â
Spencerâs humming in the kitchen.Â
You honestly wish that the dreams made you like him less, that the sound of him might send you running back into your room, but you poke your head out of the bathroom and wait until he enters the living room. He sees you waiting, his face splitting into a smile. âHey, good morning, did you sleep better?âÂ
You canât explain the discombobulation of your dreams. Spencer had become convinced you have insomnia. You may have let him assume.Â
âSlept fine,â you croak.Â
âOkay, well get dressed and Iâll make you some coffee.âÂ
ââKay.â Your stomach pangs with nerves seeing him, reminded of tonightâs big event. âAre we still, uh, on, for tonight?âÂ
âNervous?â he asks.Â
You feel like you're about to be a fish in a pool of sharks. âOf course not.âÂ
 âYeah, still on, even JJ.âÂ
Awesome. Spencer turns around to make you your cup of coffee and you go to your room, dressing quickly, two pairs of socks. You tone your face and moisturise, fanning yourself slowly. You donât hurry to the living room, but you arenât slow, and itâs not Spencer, you tell yourself. Not Spencer. Youâre just craving the warmth of a cup of coffee.Â
You spend the morning together on the couch. Spencer reads and occasionally chats to you about whatever tome it is that specific half an hour. You make sandwiches at lunch time, he showers in the early evening. You get dressed and primped while heâs gone, and at 6PM, Spencer knocks your bedroom door to ask if youâre ready to go.Â
âCould I fake an illness?â you joke nervously.Â
Spencerâs hand falls on your handle. The door is ajar as usual, but he doesnât tread any further inside.Â
âCome in,â you say.Â
Spencer takes a single step inside before stopping. He looks you up and down without the hunger you crave from him, a more clement, familiar appreciation to him as he says, âYou look pretty.â He traces your arm, leaving the skin tingly in his wake. âReally pretty.âÂ
âThank you. I didnât want to overdress.âÂ
âItâs perfect, donât worry. And no, you couldnât fake an illness. They all know when Iâm lying, especially Hotch. And Emily, actually.âÂ
You squeeze your hands together tightly at your stomach. âI donât know why Iâm sooo nervous.â You lick your lips. âI feel like I canât stop fidgeting.âÂ
âTheyâre used to it, I promise. They know that theyâre gonna make you nervous, but theyâve sworn to be on their best behaviour, and besides, youâre not the only plus one. JJâs bringing Will, and Morganâs bringing his sister, Iâve only met her once. The focus wonât be all on you.â He lowers his voice. âAfter two drinks they forget theyâre supposed to be scary.âÂ
âWhat if I say something extremely stupid to your boss and get you in trouble?âÂ
âWhat are you going to get me in trouble for?âÂ
âI donât know. What if I accidentally tell him that that sick day you took a few weeks ago was to help me make brownies?â
âEveryone lies about sick days.â He deliberates. âMaybe not Hotch. But Iâm pretty sure he knew I was lying, and itâs explainable. I felt⊠irate.âÂ
You raise your eyebrows. âWhat?âÂ
âStaying home with you made me feel better. Which made me a better worker the next day, itâs fine.â His phone rings from somewhere in the apartment. âThatâll be JJ. Are you okay?âÂ
âIâm fine.âÂ
âYeah?â He grins. âOkay. Youâre wearing a coat, right? Itâs cold. The forecast says snow. Itâs thirty degrees out.âÂ
You layer a coat onto your jacket and a scarf to make him happy. You and Spencer get a taxi, black leather gritless under your hands, though you squeeze the seat like itâs gonna stop the car the whole time. Spencer doesnât talk much, but he looks at you unapologetically, and he smiles, and the quiet is as severe as it was in your dream that morning. If this were a dream heâd be leaning over to cradle your ear. Heâd ask in whispers if you were alright, and heâd let his hand rest kindly on your knee.Â
âWhat?â you whisper.Â
His lips part like he might answer. The car comes to a crunching stop outside the bar, and whatever it was he was going to say is kept for later. âIâll tell you after,â he says.Â
He pays for the taxi before you can work it out and you say thank you to the driver. The sidewalk is clean, broad, and glowing with the last bit of light. The sun sets behind you. The bar beckons in front.Â
Your fear is daunting.Â
You have years of practice fooling Spencer. You know that he knows your tells, so youâve changed them, and Spencer cares about you enough to ignore obvious truths if he thinks you might not want to share. His colleagues, FBI agents trained to detect deception, are going to take one good look at you and know youâre lying about⊠this.Â
Youâre plagued by dreams of Spencer, but nothing can touch the real thing.Â
You feel the space between you like itâs aflame. Spencer checks youâre with him and opens the door.Â
The bar is busy even for a Saturday. You arenât expecting the volume, the boisterousness of the patrons already slumped together over tables and waiting at the bar to get their drinks. Itâs smaller than youâd pictured too, but its size is made up for with a patio at the back, smokers haunting the door, wary of the cold.Â
You know what his friends look like already, yet seeing them in person is odd. Hotch is taller than youâd thought, Emily more startlingly pretty. JJâs frowning, and her partner Will looks like heâs about to fall asleep despite a lazy grin.Â
Hotch notices you first. He taps Emily on the elbow, who pauses in a thought to follow his gaze. Her face breaks into a smile, and if you werenât in love with Spencer Reid, you might take a tumble for his pale coworker.Â
âHello,â Spencer says, ushering you to the table with an arm behind your back.Â
âHi,â you say.Â
âHe-llo,â Emily says, leaning into the table, a strand of her hair dangerously close to a short glass of juice. âI canât believe weâre finally seeing you in person. Iâm Emily.âÂ
âY/N,â you say.Â
âAaron,â Hotch adds. (Aaron! Heâs far more intimidating casually than as a boss, it seems.)
âDerek was just here,â JJ says in way of greeting, while Will drawls from over her shoulder, âIâm Will, itâs nice to meet you.âÂ
Spencer pulls out a chair for you and promptly sits in the one beside Emily. âSorry weâre late. I forgot my wallet and we had to go back up to the apartment and the cab I called got so angry about it that he left.âÂ
You slide between the table and your chair, looking to Spencer for guidance, but heâs distracted taking his coat off and you have to look at Aaron instead.Â
His smile is immediately knowing. Read for filth in seconds. âWe don't bite.â
âNot so early in the evening,â Emily says.Â
You take a shuddering breath, thankful they canât hear it over the sounds of the bar.Â
â
âIâm caught!â you exclaim.Â
Spencer hugs you under the arms. âI know,â he says gently.Â
âCaught!âÂ
He holds back a laugh as your arms react, practically flung behind his head in a hug that threatens to cut off the oxygen supply to his brain. âI think youâve caught me, instead,â he says.Â
You laugh in his ear. Thereâs gin on your breath and the sweeter smell of orange juice. Itâs not bad, but weird to know itâs from your mouth. Or not weird. It gives Spencer a feeling like seeing the soft curve of your hip when youâre lying on your side. Like watching you bite your bottom lip when youâre distracted by the TV and worrying to yourself, which you do more often than not lately. Theyâre private things that Spencer shouldnât know about.Â
âIâm not trying to,â you say, and Spencer can smell the shot of vodka you did too, which is less pleasant. âNot trying to catch you. Not⊠Iâm sorry.âÂ
âWhat for?âÂ
âItâs hard to explain.âÂ
Over your shoulder, Spencer spots Hotchâs entertained gaze. All the team has done since you sat down together was pick on Spencer and his obviousness. Boyfriend? theyâd asked you. Looking? Sights set on someone? All while JJ nudged him under the table.Â
Things are falling apart now. JJâd departed to hold Emilyâs hair back, and Will with her. Hotch caught the eye of a woman across the way, and they sit chatting amicably at the bar with more peanuts than drinks. Derek, when he did appear, stayed for an hour with Desiree, recounting to you his most embarrassing stories of which Spencer had taken care to shield you from, and laughed at his subsequent blush.Â
He never wanted you to know about his run in with anthrax, and he especially didnât want you to know heâd been stripped nude afterwards and hosed off like a muddy dog.Â
Youâd turned to him with wide, worried eyes. âYou were poisoned?â youâd asked.Â
Itâs stuff like that that makes this difficult.Â
âI donât know if you know this,â he says now, rubbing your back, âbut Iâm good with difficult concepts.â
âI did not mean to be like this.âÂ
âYou didnât eat much.â Spencer helps you stand on your own two feet. âThey kitchenâs still open. I can get you food, how about a burger? Or we can go find you something.â
âWhat kind of burger?â you ask, poorly concealing your excitement.Â
Spencer gets you back to the table. âIâll be right back.âÂ
âWait, donât go.âÂ
âIâm gonna get food. Do you want fries?âÂ
âSpencer, what if I throw up?âÂ
Spencer shrugs. âI can rub your back?âÂ
âI donât want to throw up.âÂ
âThen drink that,â he says, sliding his glass of coke toward you. âAlcohol irritates the lining of your stomach and increases the production of stomach acid. If you drink,â âhe flinches as you knock the cup backâ âslowly you can dilute your stomach contents without upsetting it. Slowly,â he says, squeezing your hand, âIâll order food.â
âNo, wait.â You drop the glass and grab him. âPlease donât go. I donât want to throw up by myself.âÂ
âYou wonât throw up.â
âPlease,â you say, holding his wrist in both hands, your eyes shiny. âSpencer, donât go.âÂ
âI wonât.â He doesnât know how true it is and then suddenly heâs sat down. He wonât go. He wouldnât leave your side ever again if thatâs what you asked of him.Â
He puts your chairs together, entertaining your tipsy thoughts with light conversation and the occasional slight of hand. You have an aura about you, like Spencerâs doing more than close-up magic, hanging on his every word. Your nervousness had you gasping like a fish, not so subtly downing one drink, then another, but now that youâre feeling the effects of them (and a few extras), the tightness youâd held in your fingers is gone. Youâre leaning against the back of the chair with all the ease of you on the couch at home, but the easy fondness youâd usually wear while he speaks is replaced by a bright and shining awe. A sweetness like heâs remarkable. The soft line of your lips and your widened eyes.Â
Youâre not the sort of drunk that leaves you listless and ready for bed. This is giggly and fun, and so long as you donât push it youâll be alright. It wasnât enough alcohol to leave you inebriated all night, anyhow. In a few hours the giddiness will wear away, leaving you with a headache and a deep longing for your missed dinner.Â
âIâm glad you didnât let me fake food poisoning,â you say.Â
âIs that what you were thinking? Thatâs a terrible excuse. You need something with sudden onset symptoms, like an asthma attack, or pneumonia. An acute illness.âÂ
You take his hand. âI love that you know that stuff.â
Feeling as in love with you as ever, and sorry for you drunken state âhe couldâve stopped you, he just didnât thinkâ he folds your hands together, both of his, rubbing the hills of your knuckles with his thumb. Your hands look right together.Â
Thatâs what Spencer likes to think, anyway.Â
You slow like youâre tired, hand lax in his grips. Your mouth opens but nothing follows, no sigh or gripe or conversation.Â
âYou okay?â he asks softly.Â
âI think Iâm having one of those dreams again.âÂ
âYouâre awake,â he says.Â
âI donât know about that. Theyâre all like this.âÂ
He hums, smoothing his thumb down the back of your hand. âIf this were a dream, you wouldn't have control over what youâre doing. Why donât you do something you wouldnât do in a dream?âÂ
âLike what?â you ask.Â
âThereâs a ton of stuff you canât do in dreams. People find they have a poor memory, but I canât ask you to recall anything. You might not remember regardless. How about temperature?â he suggests. âMost people canât feel warm or cold in their dreams. Do you want to feel something cold?â
You watch him for a few seconds, your eyebrows pulled together unhappily. âYour hands are warm,â you say.Â
âRight.â He suspects theyâll feel warmer in just a few seconds when the hot flush in his face manages to work its way down. âIâm warm. So are you.âÂ
âSometimes I feel like youâre warm in the dream, though. You make me feel warm.âÂ
âItâs remembered, maybe.âÂ
You donât look any happier. âSometimes I wish I could stop having them, butâŠâ You duck your head. âSorry, Spencer.âÂ
âWhat are you sorry for?âÂ
Your head ducks lower. With a start to his chest, your shoulders shake, like you're inhaling the first half of a sob.Â
âHey, hey,â he says, reaching for your cheek, ducking his own head to see you, âwhatâs wrong? Itâs okay, you donât have anything to be sorry for!â he whispers emphatically. âYou have nothing to be sorry for, why would you think that?âÂ
âI keep having these dreams, all the time, andâ and Iâ Iâll mess everything up. Everything we have, Iâm going toââ You hiccup, eyes turned glassy, imploring him to forgive you for something you havenât done. âI donât feel good.âÂ
âYou havenât done anything wrong,â he says, his hand sliding back to your ear, down to your neck, âyouâre just drunk. Youâre confused.âÂ
âBut the dreamsââ
âWhat dreams?â he asks gently.Â
You blow out a daunted breath. âWhere you love me.âÂ
âI do love you.âÂ
âBut more than this. You love me more than this,â you say, shaking your head. âI really donât feel okay⊠Do you think we could go home?âÂ
Youâre so sorry and frowny that Spencer would attempt, in all his unfitness, to climb Mount Everest for you should you ask. âYeah, we can go home,â he says, rubbing your arm up and down and up again, a line of affection from shoulder to wrist. âIâll take you home. Itâs okay, Y/N. You donât have to be upset, I shouldnât have asked.âÂ
Heâs not sure what he asked, really, but the answer upset you. His heartâs racing like he just sprinted the length of the bar and youâre close to tears, this strange weepy sullenness about you as you say, âItâs okay. Letâs just go.âÂ
â
Itâs cold to be sitting out by yourself, though the snow stayed its hand another night while the temperature fell again. Your coat poses a weak defence against the chill, nipping at your nose, burning the insides of every breath, and your feet are stiff like ice in your shoes. Yet, the idea of returning to the apartment is a leaden stone in your stomach.Â
Spencer could barely look at you that morning. You hadnât given him much of a chance, slipping out of the apartment with little more than a call to say youâd be back later. Your groceries freeze in a paper bag by your feet.Â
Youâre not too embarrassed about getting tipsy. It was drinks with Spencer and his friends, not dinner. Emily had been twice as drunk, and Derek had encouraged you to drink with a round on him. Youâre mortified, however, by what youâd said. Your memory is clear enough to know youâd told Spencer about your dreams.Â
Heâd been confused at the time, but heâs a smart boy. Heâll figure it out.Â
âThis headache,â you mumble, tipping your head into your hand morosely. You rub your brow, fingers against the ache, the cold getting worse.Â
Why did it take a dream for you to realise you had feelings for Spencer? And why did you have to realise at all? If youâd never had that dream, never had that phantom bruise, his hands careful and caring and touching up to the band of your bra, you wouldnât know now what it is to want him. The dream gave you a bruise, and Spencer presses against it real or otherwise every time he looks at you. You were wrong thinking that it never happened; itâs still there, a purple lash against your ribs.Â
Every time he makes you breakfast, or he texts you from a different state, or he sits down on the couch just to talk to you. Every time he says something smart, or he tilts his head back as he laughs, or he draws a smiley face on the mirror by the doorâ
âAbout those dreams?âÂ
You rub your eyes hard. Of course heâd come to find you. âPlease donât.âÂ
âPlease,â he says. You see him through your fingers. His thick scarf is unravelled at his neck, his hair ragged around his face like heâs been raking it repeatedly behind his ears.Â
You straighten.Â
âI donât get it,â he says, âyouâve been dreaming about me? Why is that such a big deal?âÂ
âItâs embarrassing.âÂ
âI dream about you all the time,â he says. âWeâre in each other's lives, we live together, it makes sense that your hippocampus would use me. You have a lot of memories with me.â Spencer crosses his arms in front of you. âItâs freezing.âÂ
âIâll be home in a bit.â
âIâm not gonna go back without you,â he says, like thatâs a given.Â
You move across the bench to make room for him. Spencer sits.Â
You settle. The occasional bus trundles past, a limited rota for an early Sunday morning. Spencer shoves his hands into his pockets. His lips are already turning blue.Â
âI know you know what I mean,â you say.Â
Spencer presses his knees together. âEven romantic dreams where Iâm⊠where weâre together, itâs all easily explained away by brain science. You canât control what you dream, and Iâm not going to hold you to it.âÂ
Silence, silence. You tip your head back to see a horrible grey cloud closing in on you both, the sun a white and gauzy memory behind it. Spencerâs right about control, but he doesnât get that you like them. Itâs not fair to him that youâve somehow rallied a second life when youâre sleeping, where heâs your mindâs puppet, hugging and holding you, pressing his cheek to the side of your face. Saying things you wish heâd tell you now.Â
âWell, I like you.âÂ
âWhat?â you ask, coughing.Â
âNot to make things awkward or anything, but I like you. Romantically.â Spencerâs voice takes a sharp veer into high-pitched freneticism. âDoes that help at all?âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âItâs far more embarrassing that I like you on purpose than your accidental dreams, right?â He thumbs at the inside of his wrist. âYou donât have to say anything, or think anything, and Iâm not going to change, but I have feelings for you.â Â
You feel like youâre standing at the top of a very tall building. âOh?âÂ
âI kind of thought you knew.âÂ
âHow could I know that?â you ask, cringing as a cold gust of air bites at your face.Â
Spencer takes his scarf off and pushes it into your hands. âI donât know. I guess we know less about each other than we thought.â
The way he says it.Â
Spencer wraps his scarf around you when itâs clear you arenât going to do it yourself, and he touches your cheek briefly, a brush of his fingers like he thinks heâs doing something he shouldnât be allowed to.Â
âI dream about you all the time,â he says quietly.Â
A bus passes by and shines headlights at your feet. The wind blows, your ears roar, and just above you, in a cold front to mark the season, snow begins to fall.Â
You look up simultaneously. A snowflake gets caught in Spencerâs eyelashes.Â
Just one.Â
âThis is so weird,â you mumble.Â
Spencer wipes at his eye. âCould you tell me why?âÂ
âI had a dream just like this.âÂ
He laughs warmly. âOf course you did. Forget all reason, then. Youâre prophetic.âÂ
âI donât think I couldâve predicted this.âÂ
âWhy? Itâs only snow. Virginia gets an inch of snow most Decembers.âÂ
You laugh. In a dream, this is where you and Spencer would kiss or hold hands, or rest your cheek on the otherâs shoulder, but neither of you are brave enough. And, as the snow turns to a sleet below freezing, you canât ignore the cold.Â
â
iv. the endÂ
The longest anyone has ever slept in recorded human history is eleven days. Two hundred and sixty four hours, or nearly sixteen thousand minutes, just shy of one million seconds of sleep.Â
The first pillow was invented in Mesopotamia more than nine thousand years ago, in a time where the amount of pillows a person had directly correlated their personal riches. The history of pillows is tumultuous and eclectic. Headrests made of wood, stone, or jade. Curved neck holders worn soft with use.Â
And, of all Spencerâs gifted facts, you find yourself circling back to the same one as you wait for him to wake: most dreams are no longer than twenty minutes. However, itâs important to note that the longest dream ever officially observed was in 1994, when a man managed to be in REM for just over three hours. Youâve had dreams that felt like they lasted for hours, but likely took place for just twenty minutes. If you could dream for three hours a night, you could live an entire life of longing in a pocket of time.Â
Thankfully, you have no need to hide from reality anymore. Spencer sleeps beside you and you donât want to sleep, you just want him to wake up.Â
âGood morning,â you whisper, drawing your fingertip across his cheek to encourage the hair thatâs fallen there back in line.Â
He doesnât stir. Itâs alright, you hadnât meant to wake him.Â
âI love you,â you whisper, shuffling across the sheets to feel the heat and weight of his body against your own. He doesnât move for a while, snoring gently, his breath kissing the top of your head as you burrow into the slip of space under his chin. Then, as if he were awake, he wraps his arm around you and drags you in further. His face angles down and his nose finds your forehead, and a hum of what youâd personally say is content kisses your brow.Â
You tuck your hand behind his back and rub a circle.Â
Spencer didnât last long after the initial realisation of requited feelings. In a day heâd asked if you wanted to be his girlfriend (vaguely apologetic, still worried about scaring you, though youâd already come clean about wanting him as youâd warmed your cold hands by the stove). A week later he kissed you on a date outside of the cosiest Indian restaurant in Washington, D.C, and things have been nothing but smooth sailing from there.Â
Now, when heâs feeling romantic, he brings home butter chicken and turns your face up for kissing, fork in hand. Every night before bed, he tells you to have good dreams, a self-satisfaction in his eyes that you dearly love.Â
You knew he was a dork and you liked him because of it, but the sheer increase in him is amazing. Yesterday he sent you Close to You by Carpenters over text claiming they wrote it about you. When he got home, he tried to make you dance with him in the living room. After two or three kisses, youâd let him pull you to your feet.Â
Spencer has turned loving one another into an everyday spectacularity, and not some mystical dream you ached for.Â
He squeezes the skin of your shoulder as he wakes. Heavy in the hands of sleep, Spencer rubs the tip of his nose to yours, nudging your face up, and waiting there with your lips a few millimetres apart as he finds his bearings. You donât open your eyes. Thereâs no need.Â
âTime?â he mumbles.
âI donât,â âyou clear your hoarse voice, his hand flattening protectively behind youâ âknow, um. Maybe seven. The sun was risingâŠâÂ
âYou could have woken me up,â he says, and kisses you slowly. Itâs almost gluttonous, how he does it. Not chaste at all. His hair falls into your face and tickles your cheeks, his nose smushes your own with his easy depth.Â
You hold his face and kiss him twice, following a line under his chin, where you pause, smelling yesterday's cologne on his skin. âI was hoping Iâd fall asleep again,â you confess.Â
âOh, no, donât do that.â He scoops you against him and turns onto his back as you laugh. âAngel. Letâs stay up now. Letâs just⊠stay here.âÂ
If you stay here heâs going to waylay you with a smattering of his voracious kisses, and heâs going to turn you on your back and kiss your neck. Heâll touch that place on your ribs where youâd once dreamt a bruise. Itâs a secret you couldnât keep. He likes to kiss you there when he remembers, but most of the time his hands run along it without mention. A slow caressing.Â
You push your face against his shoulder and sigh as his arms close in around you. With a little effort, you get your arms around him in turn, and you hug him for as long as you can stand the pins and needles in your fingers.Â
âYou smell so good,â you mumble.
He pats your back absentmindedly.Â
Today, youâre going to make Spencer oatmeal with banana and chocolate. Youâre going to shower, maybe together if the small space can handle it, laughing at the soap in his eyebrows and the way he squeals when you touch his hips. Youâre going to drape yourself across his lap as he reads, and heâll lean down to kiss the tip of your nose or some other strange part of you unused to affection. The top of your ear, the palm of your hand, maybe the crook of your elbow. Heâll ramble through dinner or creep up behind you to sniff your shoulder, and itâll all be choices youâve made. Nothing left to want or wanting, but being in love while wide awake.Â
âAre you tired?â you ask him.Â
He takes a deep breath of your hair. âNo,â he says, drawing a light line up your side, âIâm okay. There are worse faces to wake up to.â
You try not to fluster noticeably. Heâs always been a good roommate. Youâre still getting used to the boyfriend part, the intimacy of being complimented, but Spencer seems to have slipped into the part easily.
âSorry, that was mean. Thereâs nothing Iâd rather wake up to.âÂ
âThanks,â you mumble.Â
Youâre tired, suddenly. The minutes pass in heavy blinks âyou donât want to sleep now that heâs awake, but being here with him is warming you from the inside out. You doze and wake and Spencer doesnât say a word. His breaths come evenly against your cheek.Â
Eventually, he clears his throat, asksing, âDid you dream at all?â His voice is hewn. He rubs your chest, right over your heart.
âIâm not so sure that this isnât one,â you say, your heartbeat a crawl under his touch.
âThatâs corny.âÂ
âMm, the Spencer in my dreams is usually kinder.âÂ
âDoes he ever get to hold you like this?â he asks, letting his hand fall from your chest to wrap it back around you again.Â
You take a sleepy breath in. âNo,â you say slowly, âhe doesnât.â

In the night sky as the moonlight shines through the windows, the lab was filled with the low hum of machinery. It had a faint metallic scent of Viktorâs latest work. You leaned against the wall, watching him from across the room as he worked, utterly engrossed in his latest project. He had changed so much recently, both in body and spirit. The hextech augmentation now coursing through his leg gave him a powerful, refined look, yet you sensed a hidden struggle behind his carefully guarded gaze. You knew how he was. His mind was only half here, the other was lost somewhere between ambition and uncertainty.
He hadnât noticed your arrival yet, too focused on the delicate mechanisms of the device in front of him. You admired him, his steady hand, his unwavering concentration, the way his golden eyes seemed to burn with a fire that was part passion, part burden. Yet you could see the toll it took, even if he would never admit it.
âViktor,â you spoke softly, not wanting to startle him.
His head lifted, and his intense gaze softened slightly as he saw you. âAh,â he said, letting out a breath, âI didnât realize you were here.â There was a hint of relief in his voice, as if your presence offered him a reprieve from the depths of his mind.
You approached him slowly, your fingers brushing the edge of the table. âI wanted to make sure you were taking care of yourself,â you said, giving him a gentle smile. âItâs been days, Viktor. You need to rest.â
A flicker of defensiveness crossed his face, but it melted quickly, replaced by something almost vulnerable. âRest,â he echoed, his voice laced with exhaustion. âIt feels like a luxury I cannot afford.â
You stepped closer, your heart aching at the sight of him so worn down, so caught between his dreams and the demands of his body. âEven visionaries need a break,â you murmured, reaching up to gently place a hand on his shoulder. He was warmer than you expected, his skin cool to the touch from the metal but still unmistakably him.
Viktor looked down at your hand, as if surprised by the intimacy of the gesture. His gaze softened, and he let out a soft, reluctant sigh. âPerhaps⊠perhaps youâre right,â he admitted, a slight smile breaking through the intensity of his features. âYou always have been, havenât you?â
There was a warmth in his voice that pulled you closer, and for a moment, you forgot the cold metal and complex machinery that surrounded you. You reached up, brushing a stray lock of hair from his face, feeling the tension ease from his shoulders under your touch.
âViktorâŠâ you murmured, your voice almost trembling with the unspoken words you had held back for so long. He looked at you, truly looked, his golden eyes reflecting something vulnerable, something raw that he rarely let show. âYes?â he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
Without thinking, you leaned in, your fingers tracing along his jawline, feeling the softness of his skin against the hardness of his prosthetic. His eyes widened slightly, but he didnât pull away. Instead, he tilted his head toward you, his gaze focused solely on your face, as if you were the only thing grounding him in this moment.
âI worry about you,â you whispered, your voice almost lost in the quiet hum of the lab. âYou give so much of yourself, but you leave so little room forâŠâ You hesitated, searching for the right words. âFor someone to care for you.â
Viktorâs expression softened, his hand lifting slowly to touch yours, his fingers tentative but warm. âI⊠I hadnât realized,â he murmured, his gaze dropping for a moment before he met your eyes again. âBut with you, it feels⊠different.â
A moment of silence passed between you, and in that silence, the unspoken words lingered, the weight of everything you had both held back coming to the surface. Slowly, almost hesitantly, Viktor leaned forward, his face mere inches from yours.
âDifferent how?â you asked, your heart pounding as you felt his breath against your lips.
âLike I could⊠lose myself in you,â he whispered, a vulnerability in his voice that shook you to your core.
Before you could respond, his lips brushed yours, soft at first, testing, as if he was afraid you might pull away. But you didnât. Instead, you leaned into him, your hands moving to cup his face as he deepened the kiss, his fingers threading through your hair, pulling you closer. There was a hunger in his kiss, a desperation that spoke of the weeks, months, maybe even years he had spent holding back, afraid to want this, to want you.
The passion between you ignited, his lips pressing against yours with a fervor that surprised you both. Viktorâs hand slid to the small of your back, pulling you flush against him, as if he needed to feel every inch of you, as if he were afraid you might vanish. His breath was ragged, each exhale a confession of how long he had kept himself from this moment.
He pulled back, only slightly, his golden eyes searching yours, his face open in a way you had never seen. âYouâŠâ he whispered, as if the words failed him, his hand brushing against your cheek. âYou are the one thing that makes me feel whole.â
You could see the storm of emotions in his gaze. Desire and hope. They were all woven together, vulnerable and unguarded. You wrapped your arms around him, letting yourself sink into the feeling of him holding you, his heartbeat quickening against yours.
âYou donât have to carry everything alone, Viktor,â you whispered, pressing your forehead to his, your fingers trailing down his arm, feeling the cool metal beneath your fingertips. âIâm here. Let me carry some of it with you.â
He closed his eyes, letting out a shuddering breath as he held you close, his hand moving to cradle the back of your head, his fingers tangled in your hair. âI never thoughtâŠâ His voice cracked, and he took a moment to steady himself. âI never thought anyone could love someone like me.â
Your heart ached at the words, at the quiet self-doubt that he kept buried so deep. You tilted his chin up, meeting his gaze with all the strength you could muster. âI donât love you despite anything, Viktor,â you said, your voice steady. âI love you because of who you are, all of you.â
For a moment, he simply looked at you, his eyes wide and vulnerable, and then he kissed you again, harder this time, as if pouring everything he couldnât say into the kiss. His hand moved to your waist, pulling you even closer, his fingers pressing into you as though you were his anchor, the one steady point in the storm that was his mind.
The two of you stayed like that, tangled together in the quiet of the lab, lost in each other. Viktorâs hand traced gentle patterns along your back, his touch tender, almost reverent, as if he was memorizing every detail of this moment. And in that embrace, in the warmth of his kiss, you felt him let go of the weight he carried, just a little, as he allowed himself to surrender to you, even if only for this fleeting, stolen moment.

song rec: if you think iâm pretty - artemas
âI told you not to put this movie on, Woo. Itâs way too scary,â you complained whinily into your best friendâs shoulder, shielding your eyes from the suspenseful scene playing out on the laptop sitting on the edge of your bed.
âMingi was the one who wanted to watch it, you know,â Wooyoung chided, causally wrapping his arm around your shoulders, rubbing your bare arm up and down in a comforting manner.
âWell, Mingiâs passed out.â Pouting, you pointed to your other friend that was curled up underneath the comforter beside you, his eyes shut. âHeâs not even watching, so whatâs the point?â
Wooyoung rolled his eyes. âCome on, Y/N. Donât be a pussy.â His cold fingers made their way down to your waist to squeeze at it, making you jump from the sudden contact. âOh, I seeâŠ.Do you think the monsterâs gonna get ya?â
âShut up, Wooyoung!â you whisper-shouted, as to not wake up Mingi. You pushed on his chest, feeling his heart beat quickly against your hand. Was it racing like yours was? And, when did he get so close to you? His hand was already running up and down the bare skin of your thigh, causing your thin shorts to ride up more and more, but you didnât have the nerve to confront him about it. Your pout grew. âIâm really scared, okay?â
âOh, you poor baby,â Wooyoung cooed softly into your ear, his words laced with faux pity, his sharpened gaze focused solely on your blushing face. âDo you want me to help you, Y/N? Distract you from the scary movie?â
âY-yes, pleaseâŠâ
You didnât know what you were getting into, but you trusted that Wooyoung had your best interest in mind. It was then that he gently coaxed you further into his arms, lying comfortably against him as you faced the laptop screen once again. Goosebumps began to spread across your limbs from underneath the warm comforter, but it wasnât from the frightening movie â it was from Wooyoungâs hand slipping underneath your shorts, his slender fingers rubbing at your pulsing cunt through your panties.
âW-WooyoungâŠâ you croaked weakly, your face and body growing so hot, you could pass out. Friends didnât do this sort of thing, did they?
âShhhh, baby, just look at the screenâŠyeah, just like thatâŠâ he sighed softly, his warm breath fanning over your neck, now concentrating on the way your tank top clung to your softness of your tits, how your nipples grew hard enough to poke through the thin material, groaning when he found your clit through your panties, rubbing at it in slow, small circles.
âB-but weâre friends, WooâŠâ You made a sad attempt at pushing his hand away, the moral debate you were having internally slowly fizzling away the longer Wooyoung touched you.
âIsnât this what friends are for?â Wooyoung persisted, pulling your panties to the side just in time for his fingers to dip in between your soaked folds. âAnd, fuck, youâre so wet right now, Y/N. It feels good, doesnât it? Whatâs so wrong with that, baby?â
âBut, nnnghâŠMingiâs right next to usâŠâ You began to melt into Wooyoungâs arms and the soft mattress below you, unable to resist spreading your legs out for him, your thigh even resting against Mingiâs, not noticing when it shifted just as two of Wooyoungâs digits slipped inside you.
Licking at his lips, Wooyoung then pressed them onto your cheek, egging you on in a low voice, âThen, tell me to stop, baby.â He began to fuck his fingers into you at a fast pace, your walls clenching around them. âRight now. Say it.â Now, he was relentlessly rubbing his thumb into your clit with his free hand, still working your cunt, hooking his digits against the spot that made you spasm, your body growing warmer and heavier. When you pouted up at him and whined, he simply mirrored your helpless expression. âWhatâs the matter, baby? Hm?â
âOhâ fuck, right thereâŠâ you moaned out, not even attempting to look at the laptop screen in front of you, instead solely focused on your best friend beside you, so desperate to cum, you began to roll your hips down every time his fingers plunged into you.
âYeah? Youâre feeling really good now, arenât you, Y/N? Now that youâre nice and full? Just look at you, babyâŠYou canât help but fuck yourself dumb on my fingers, huh?â Wooyoung looked like the monster from the movie now, eyes full of hunger, like he was ready to eat you up.
âUh-huh, uh-huhhhâŠâ Just as your sounds of pleasure began to crescendo, your mind growing cloudier by the second, pulling at the sheets below you because you were right there, Wooyoung ceased his movement completely, leaving you high and dry. âNo, please, donât stop, pleaseâŠ!â
Wooyoung gave you a look of indifference, much like a cat that suddenly wasnât interested in playtime anymore. âShow me your tits. Maybe then Iâll make you cum.â
Desperate for your best friendâs attention and touch, you slowly rolled your tank top up until your tits spilled out, tears pricking at your eyes. How did you get here? Why did Wooyoungâs deliciously dark gaze successfully distract you from the paralyzing shame you felt? Or is that what made you wet? The way you were slutting yourself out for your best friend while the other was sleeping right next to you? âPlease make me cum, Y-YoungieâŠâ
âFuck, youâre so cute, come here.â Now, Wooyoung was on top of you, leaving as much of his saliva on your tits as possible, squeezing one when he was noisily sucking on the other, his dilated eyes never leaving your teary ones. âCan I fuck you, Y/N? Iâll make you cum, I promiseâŠI need to be inside you, baby, please, youâre so fucking hotâŠâ Desperate for release, Wooyoung lowered his sweatpants until his heavy cock dropped onto your bare cunt, rubbing himself along it, making your mind grow that much more empty. âJust the tip, okay? Thatâs okay, yeah?â
Before you knew it, you were nodding, and just like that, he was inside you, your best friend, using you like a cocksleeve. Wooyoung was ramming his cock into your cunt like he was trying to knock you up. âThatâs a good slut, fuckkk, taking me so wellâŠâ You tried to moan, to speak, to say anything, but you couldnât, not with the way his tongue suddenly went down your throat.
All you could do was cling onto Wooyoung, your nails digging into his skin when it felt like the tip of his cock was pounding into your cervix, almost growing dizzy. When you heard your best friend groaning about how he was getting ready to fuck you full of his cum, you gasped, unable to talk, short, broken moans being punched out of you each time Wooyoung slammed himself into you, your thighs hooking around his waist once his hot load began to pour into you. It was then that you turned your head just in time to realize Mingi was watching you intently, his plush lips parted just enough to let drool slip past, catching onto the way that something was moving rapidly underneath the comforter somewhere near his abdomen.
âTold you she would put out, didnât I, Min?â Wooyoung mused smugly, fucking you through the orgasm that tore through your used body, using your bruised hips like handlebars as he did so.
âYou were so right, Woo, so, so right,â Mingi sighed out, tossing his head back into the pillow behind him, leaving a few watery cumshots on the inside of your comforter and his hand.
You didnât know if you wanted to cry or to cum again, instead just trying to catch your breath, hiding your face underneath one of your wrists, at least until Wooyoung pulled it down and made you look at the both of them.
âYouâll let Mingi have a turn, wonât you, Y/N? Itâs only fair, right?â
Mingi nodded in agreement, before leaning in, licking across his teeth. âHaving my cock inside your little used cunt next will make another good âdistractionâ, donât you think?â
Even though the credits were rolling on the laptop behind them, the monsters hadnât left. They were right there in front of you, waiting for your permission to ravage you. You couldnât help but nod. They were your best friends, after all.

Curiosity Killed The Cat
prompt: after rescuing you from kidnappers, you overhear your boyfriend-turned-savior complain about how clingy you've become.
pairing: Mafia!Bucky Barnes x female!reader
fandom masterlist: Marvel
collection masterlist: Clingy Baby
word count: 5.1k+
note: author wants things out of her drafts! also don't take this fic too seriously, it's not much at all - just me writing for the fuck of it until i'm ready to focus on my bigger projects.
warnings: modern AU, Mafia AU, obvious cursing, small hurt and comfort, brief depiction of physical violence and self-destruction in the form of: loss of appetite, lack of sleep, other symptoms of depression. NOT edited! author is ashamed because she knows she can give you something better but oh well.
Your feet planted, jarring you to a halt the moment you heard your name in a conversation you were not apart of.
You heard the hammering of your heart, echoing beats of your blood pumping with harrowing desperation. Hands turned cold and clammy, sweat breaking out on your brow and then freezing, feeling as if your throat had swollen to a new restriction and you were anchored in you in place.
Rooted.
But for now, all you could identify was the paralyzing anxiety that anchored you to your spot and made your heartbeat thunder in your ears. You stood outside the lounge, unable to comprehend relevant thought; still listening to low, docile tones continue their conversation, but you couldn't hear real words.
You were stunned. Panicked, confused, hurt - so very hurt. That seemed to register, too; you were really, really hurt.
This was perhaps why curiosity killed the cat.
You reprimanded yourself for listening in - transporting back to childhood during all the times your parents would scold you for eavesdropping. You knew it was wrong, you knew this was a private conversation meant to be shared between trusting confidants, but you couldn't help it - you heard your name and stopped. It was natural, right? To feel curious regarding a conversation seemingly about you that you, yourself, was not apart of?
Curiosity, indeed.
Blinking rapidly, you remembered the only other time you felt such mounting, pressurized fear, and while it might be dramatic, the only other time you could remember this level of anxiety was from about two months ago...
"Yes, baby, I got the bacon."
"And the jalapeños?"
"Uh-huh, the biggest they had."
"Cream cheese?"
"Do you know who you're talking to?" You laughed into the phone. "I'm a professional housewife by now, you can relax. I got all you needed for your fancy little dinner experiment."
Bucky laughed down the phone, "Oh, please, like I didn't see you salivating when we watched the segment on Top Chef."
"Hush," you laughed, too. "I'm leaving the store now," you told him, pushing out of the heavy glass doors, "and should be home in, like, 10 minutes?"
"Lemme pick you up."
"I have legs to walk with, so, no thank you."
He sighed, "Well, I'll open the wine to let it breathe. Red's still good?"
"Let's do a white tonight, please."
"Good deal," he mused softly. "Hey, I was thinking earlier - "
"Hang on," you pleaded.
"What's wrong?"
"No, nothing. There's just a van slowing down, I don't want to get hit," you chuckled some, looking up and down the street before crossing. "Sorry, so, what were you thinking?"
"We haven't been to Paris in months."
You smirked, "I'm sure our plants in the apartment are dead by now."
Bucky laughed, "Oh, I am, too. But, look, how 'bout it, Peach? You, me, all the croissants we can consume this weekend. I'll take Monday and Tuesday off, we can leave tomorrow night."
"Oh, that sounds nice," you moaned. "Paris in the spring? Baby, that's so dreamy!"
"So, is that a yes?"
"It's a hell yes," you grinned. "Do you know the weather?"
"Supposed to be nice and sunny, not too warm or cold. Figured this would be ideal," he chuckled. "But does the weather matter if we're in bed the whole time?"
"No, we're not wasting our time!" You laughed. "We're gonna go do shit, okay? Stereotypical tourist-couple shit."
"I'll bring the camera."
"And I was hoping we could have dinner at that little place we love?"
"I wouldn't take you anywhere else," he mused.
"I think it's - FUCK!" Bucky froze when he heard the screeching of tires; a van coming up to a skidding halt, flurry of voices all yelling but he heard yours clearly. "No, no, no, hey, hey, what the hell's happening? Hey! What's this - hey, hey! Don't touch me! Ow, shit! No! Hey! Fuck's sake - oh, my God! Ow! Hey!"
"Baby!? Peach! Hey! The fuck's going on!?"
There was a thudding over the phone, and Bucky listened to more struggling - more fidgeting and fighting - and then the slamming of a car door. Still calling your name, Bucky heard a scrape over the line before a different voice answered your phone, "James Barnes. On behalf of HYDRA, you're overdue on your payment and we warned you there would be consequences. Deliver the full amount of 17 million - "
"It's 15," he growled.
"Two million more for the inconvenience of stalking your woman."
"If you even so much as touch her, I swear to God - "
"17 million at midnight, at the pier, or every minute you're late, she'll receive the brunt end of our frustration."
"Don't hurt her - "
"Midnight, Mr. Barnes, at the pier - you know where. Don't be late, she looks like she won't last long."
The line went dead after he heard your screech of pain, confusion, and fear. The moment the line cut, he dropped his phone and slowly lowered himself to sit on the kitchen floor, shock coloring his system. It wasn't that he didn't have the money, quite the opposite - but he and his men had a plan in motion to take out HYDRA, their org's competition, and this was totally against all they anticipated. After a minute to sit in his own worry, Bucky jumped to his feet, grabbed his phone, keys, wallet, and two handguns; holstering them both before shrugging his suit jacket on.
He made every phone call he could, gathering the men he trusted most to (one of) his warehouse(s).
For hours, you were strung up by your wrists in a joint-pulling position while the Brooklyn Mafia formulated a plan of attack. It was the most pain you've ever known, but then the abuse started and you were blinded by this new pain. You had bruises most places, cuts that wept blood; scars that would never heal, wounds that wouldn't ever close. You were delirious, miserable, confused, just dazed and confused; praying to a God who didn't listen.
"Oh, look at that," your captor mocked, holding a thick-bladed hunting knife in hand, "it's one minute til midnight, and I don't see your loverboy anywhere."
You sniffled, unable to respond.
He stared out the lone window, tisking and narrating, "Nope, I see not a soul - and with how protective he is over you, you'd think he'd want to ensure your safety. Not leave it to chance, huh?"
You whimpered as the clock struck midnight, your heart hammering in heavy-hung worry. You had tears in your eyes, heart nearly beating out of your chest, feeling incredibly nauseous. The desire to scream never lessened, just fearing what was to come; the men in the room making you fear for the state of your life, their knuckles cracking. You only begged, "Please. Don't."
The main captor laughed, "You can do better than that! C'mon, give me the satisfaction of tellin' ol' James you begged for mercy - but it wasn't enough to sway me. I'll lie, for sure, and say it happened but it will be so much sweeter if you actually do it."
"Please," you shook your head, avoiding eye contact. "Just don't do this, please."
"Oh, honey," he mocked, "it's not our fault he's late. Lads! Have at her, but leave her face for now - she's still real pretty."
You listened as he gave commands in Russian, understanding after the years at Bucky's side; whimpering when the first blow landed to your gut and knocked the wind out of you. The minutes drug by and you felt your resolve crumbling, heart still hammering to a never-before-felt speed that made it feel as if it were jumping out of your very body at every single pulse point. You struggled in your restraints, but it was futile by how tight you were bound; unable to protect yourself.
At 12:03 am, the doors blew open in a resounding blast; concrete crumbling and sprinkling the floor. You cried out as the smoke choked you, coughing through the haze; only barely able to make out certain figures to know Bucky had brought his best men. However, despite the sting to your eyes from the swirling dust and smoke, you saw a lone man stalk through the blasted wall, through the fray, and straight up to you.
"Bu-Bucky!" You choked in relief as he reached to untie your feet first. You dangled for only a moment as his metal prosthetic ripped off whatever held your wrists to the torture contraption. "Oh, my God. Oh, my God, Bucky, holy shit, baby, please, please, please," you rambled as he freed you and instantly caught you on his broad shoulders.
"I got you, Peach, I'm here, I've got you," he promised in your ear, hoisting your legs around his waist so they latched and then wrapping his arms around you securely. "Don't let go and don't look up, okay? Hear me, Peach?"
You nodded into his neck, only able to cry.
Bucky jolted and jerked slightly as he moved through the fight again, but not a minute later, you were stepping outside into the sobering, brisk spring air. This was the moment you understood how dangerous and fleeting life with Bucky could be, making a promise to yourself that if he says take the car, you'll take the fucking car.
And now, here you were, outside the high-rise apartment's lounge (which was just a converted bedroom), listening to your boyfriend complain about you some 2 months after the whole fiasco. HYDRA had been all but wiped out, and in the weeks since, Bucky's men had gone on smaller missions to eradicate the HYDRA members they heard rumor of being local. Yet you didn't feel safe, yet.
You didn't feel safe if you weren't around Bucky.
Everything made you jump: the beep of the done-dryer, that spritz of the automatic fragrance mister in the bathroom, the "duh-dunnn" of a loaded-up Netflix. Keys jingling, car horns, the barking of the dog in the apartment a floor below you... Everything.
Being around Bucky was just like holding a safety blanket. He would always protect you, and for about a week after your rescue, he laid in bed and around the home with you; being lazy; time off work to simply hold you and assure you were safe. Safe in his arms. Safe in his embrace, his presence.
So now... To hear this... You were devastated.
You didn't mean to eavesdrop, it just sort of happened. It was still earlier in the morning, but Bucky hadn't been in bed beside you and based on the feel of the sheets, his body hadn't been there in a while. So, you made some coffee and then ventured around the home in search of your lover; coming upon the lounge and hearing voices from within.
You knew it was common for Steve Rogers and / or Sam Wilson to stay late or visit early, so, you weren't shocked by that, but did falter in announcing yourself when you heard Sam ask how you were doing since the kidnapping. He used your name specifically, making Bucky sigh, and for your curiosity to peak.
"She's different, man."
"How so?" Sam wondered.
"She doesn't like being without me now," he chuckled without humor. "I'm serious, she won't go to the gym until I do, waits to have meals together, won't leave the house if I'm out, and," he scoffed to himself, "you can forget going to the grocery store or anything - she's even stopped going to work - "
"You told her to stop working, like, two years ago when y'all first moved-in together," Sam deadpanned.
"I know," Bucky shrugged, "but it feels tenfold now that she's so reclusive."
"It's normal," Steve sighed gently.
"Yeah? Is it normal that I can't even go take a shit without promising her I'll be right back?" Bucky snapped in exasperation. "It's that bad, she's that fucking clingy, man. I go in the kitchen to make dinner, she's in there 30 seconds later to 'help' me. I take a shower, she finds a reason to linger in the bedroom, but that was better than before, when she wouldn't even shower by herself. It's just a lot, she's everywhere I look. I'm starting to find new reasons not to come home, man, she's always fucking here - and when I walk in the door, she's on me. I need to fucking breathe, but I can't tell her to stop, she'll get her feelings hurt and then I'm the bad guy."
"Man," Steve laughed, "you can't be the bad guy if you go to her in a calm and collected manner, but it's only been two months. She's still recovering."
"Exactly why if I say anything, no matter how calm and collected, I'm the bad guy. I get she's hurting and tryna recover, but Goddamn, does she have to be in every room I'm in? Do everything with me? How do I tell my traumatized girlfriend to back off? Let me breathe?"
Sam laughed, "You don't! You just said it - she's traumatized! Cut the girl some slack, she's got a lot to fuckin' deal with!"
"I'm not negating from that fact," Bucky argued, "I'm just trying to say, the way she's clinging onto me like she can't function without me is just grating at my nerves. I just need to breathe and recharge, but I can't tell her that - fuck's sake."
"Buck," Steve smirked, "you're worried Peach isn't gonna listen, but that's her literal superpower. Just communicate, she can't read your mind, but you need to remember how traumatic all of that was for her to experience - she's scarred from that kidnapping, man. So, sure, you need to recharge, but she needs the support."
"Is it wrong to ask for a day here and there to do that? To recharge?" Bucky asked quietly.
"If you communicate, it's perfectly reasonable to ask for," Sam assured softly. "And whatever you do, don't tell her you think she's clingy. Chicks hate that, that word is, just, like, taboo or something. Real heavy, negative connotations."
"But she is," Bucky growled quietly, "'s like she's afraid to let go 'cause I'll disappear or something."
"Oh, noooo," Sam mocked, "I'm Bucky and my girlfriend loves me too much and trusts me too much and actually feels safe and dependent on me too much - ohhh noooo!"
There was a thump, Sam's cried, "Ow!", and Bucky telling him to shut up. You slowly backed away from the door, trying to settle your breathing as you made your escape down the hall. When back in the kitchen, you whimpered and let the first tears fall... The first of many you shed in the hour it took you to prepare breakfast for everyone; doing your best to eat as you cooked so you didn't have to linger around the men. You took Bucky's words to heart, and maybe you were too sensitive, maybe you should venture outside again.
So, when the lads came out, you set the table without making eye contact with any of them. "Here," you directed, setting the pancakes down, "I made breakfast, come eat, it's still hot."
"Wow," Sam smiled brightly, "thanks, Peach!"
You hummed, still avoiding their eyes as you just set the abundance of food to the table. "You... Cooked without me?" Bucky asked you with skepticism.
"Mhm," you hummed, setting the coffee pot down to a hot pad, "and I'm going out shopping with Nat, so, eat up, lads, I'll do the dishes when I get home. Love you, boys, bye," you waved them off, snatching your keys and then moving to the door to stuff your feet into your sneakers.
"Woah, woah, woah," Bucky left the table, approaching you urgently, "hey, what do you mean? You're goin' out?"
"Yep, figured I've stayed in too long, might as well get out and remember life doesn't stop just 'cause I'm sad."
"Peach - "
"I'll see you when I get home, Buck, okay?" You mumbled, slinging your purse on your shoulder.
"Well, here, here, hey, wait, hang on," he pulled his wallet out, handing you over a wad of big bills. "Spend it all, okay? Have fun, call or text if you need me, yeah?"
"Sure."
Bucky leaned in to kiss you but you just opened the door, ready to leave. He frowned, watching you, barely managing to call a quick, "Love you!"
You didn't return the sentiment, feeling hallow and all too silly to return the affection. In your purse was your laptop, headphones, chargers, and whatever else, so, instead of meeting your friend, Natasha - being just a ruse to avoid Bucky - you started small and just went to the local café. You used to frequent it back in the day, but times were changed, and yet, they were all the happier to serve you the same as before. Getting cozy in the corner, you set up camp and ordered your favorite coffee basically every other hour - letting the day waste away as you caught up on work emails.
Might've wasted time on Instagram and Facebook and Pinterest. Got shopping done on Amazon. Browsed through Target's online selection. Checked out the sale items at Kate Spade. Perused Fenty Lingerie because you could.
Before you knew it, a message was coming in over your MacBook from Bucky, asking where you were - why had you turned your location off?
You packed up and with a to-go cup, made the short trek back home. When you got back, Bucky was pacing in the living room; staring at his phone and typing, then deleting, retyping, groaning, glancing up, typing again, then doing a double take. "Where've you been, Peach? Huh!?" Bucky demanded. "You're late!"
"Out with Nat," you eased.
He huffed through his nose, nodding slowly, "You have a nice time?"
"It was okay," you answered. "I'm gonna go to bed after I shower."
His brows furrowed, "I have a meeting tonight."
"I know."
"O...kay?" He let you go, wanting to ask why you didn't ask him to join like you had so often in the past few weeks.
And it didn't stop there, in fact, it got worse. When Bucky got home from his meeting, he was actually shocked to see you nestled in the bed; teetering on the edge of the shared space while snuggling a weighted body pillow.
When he tried to give you a snuggle, you stirred to life and pushed him back, muttering, "Too hot."
The following morning, he was relatively surprised to see you up and about before him; barely getting a word in before you were slipping out the door to go on a morning jog. He was confused by how all of a sudden, where you were once everywhere he looked, now, you were disappeared and distant and gone. You worked out alone, cooked alone - but always left him a plate, but long gone were the cute little sticky notes you left for him. You once haunted the apartment by never wanting to leave, and now, ghosted in and out of it on a daily basis.
You never bothered to go far from home. You liked hanging at the coffee shop and luckily, your job let you work from home most days, and the rare time you were due back in the office, it was only about a 20 minute walk. You got better at lying, couldn't even remember the last time you and Bucky had sex, and even now, the last time you had a meal together. You didn't text him about your day; where you once might've told him about an adorable dog you saw on the street, now, you only ever texted him if he asked a direct question.
Food lost appeal, your appetite vanished.
Sleep evaded you, plaguing you with nightmares when you did rest.
Interest dulled, passions were snuffed, and only fearful, confused anger remained. It showed in the way weight seemed to shift around your body, thinning; the lack of sleep creating dark rings and bags under your bloodshot eyes.
After two weeks of this, Bucky grew irritated and short with everyone around him. It reflected in his work, the way he spoke to everyone; even Steve and Sam getting the brunt end of his anger. Without you to assure him, Bucky was off his rocker; losing his cool; his patience stretched far too thin. So much so, the two mates approached an outside associate, Natasha Romanoff, after a particularly snappy meeting to plead for her to talk to Bucky.
"James," Nat greeted as she strode into his office without knocking.
"I know you're my oldest friend, but you don't have that privilege yet," he mused, never looking up.
"What?"
"Not knocking. What is it, Nat?"
"Just came to check on you, you know, like friends do."
"Hm," he chuckled without humor, "and what did Peach say to you?"
"About...?"
"Me."
"Nothing, I haven't gotten ahold of her for weeks."
Bucky paused, slowly lifting his head in confusion; brows furrowed and mouth set in a firm, straight line. "What?" He grit.
"Huh?" Nat wondered.
"She's been telling me that she's hanging out with you for the past two weeks," he revealed.
"Nope, not since the incident with HYDRA."
Bucky's (right) flesh hand crushed the pen in his grip, taking a long breath. "All right," he sighed, "so, why come today?"
"What's really going on, Buck?" She worried softly. "Is it really whatever's going on with Peach? You're this pissed off? What'd she even do?"
"She just..." He cut himself off with a long sigh. "It's nothing."
"Bucky," Nat gave a pointed look.
"She's just avoiding me," he muttered. "It's like she's barely home, almost like a ghost."
"Isn't that what you wanted?"
"Yes, and no," Bucky snipped, rolling his neck out. "I'm just worried about her now, she's never not communicated before."
"Something's bothering her," Nat shrugged. "She probably needs you right now, Buck."
"I can't do it all," he whispered. "I can't be who she wants and run this organization at the same time."
"She doesn't need that, she just needs you to be her partner," Natasha spoke softly. "She needs to feel loved and supported, and surely, she maybe felt weird about whatever you were projecting. Instead of taking it out on your men," she smirked, "why don't you just talk to her? 'Cause I hear you're bein' a more-than-usual asshole lately. You need to ease up or get laid, 'cause you're taking it out on good, loyal men, and that's entirely unfair."
"They can take it."
"Sure, but they shouldn't have to," Nat rolled her eyes. "Look, since you won't answer me, I'm assuming the sour mood is in regard to whatever relationship issues you have right now?"
"Sure," he tossed the pen away, opened a skinny drawer to his right and select an identical one.
"Bucky," she growled.
He sighed, "She's lying to me, Nat. Saying she's with you when she's not... Is this an affair? She's gone all the time now."
"No way," Nat laughed. "Baby girl doesn't have the energy to entertain anyone - let alone two men. You're just the exception."
"Why lie, then?"
"Maybe she didn't want you questioning her..."
"No shit."
"Well, did you get into a fight?"
"No."
"Any reason she doesn't want to be home?"
He shook his head with a sigh, "Not that I know of."
"You had to do something."
"Honest, I haven't. She was being all clingy, but then one day, a switch flipped."
Nat frowned, "You think... Your girlfriend is being clingy... Because she was kidnapped and beaten up... Because of your fucking job... And is probably scared...out of...her mind...? I get that correct?"
Bucky paused for a long moment, muttering, "Oh, my God."
"Yeah, you asshole. Think of it that way! She's afraid!" Natasha snapped. "And probably picked up on your energy, so, she made herself scarce."
"I didn't mean - "
"I don't care, go home, apologize to that sweet angel - she doesn't deserve this."
Bucky paused, "What is 'this' exactly?"
"James. Focus on the present - your woman. Go make this right. We all know you're this big, bad dude - but it's okay to be a little sensitive towards the woman who loves you without condition!"
Bucky relented, figuring the redheaded Russian mobster was right.
The entire drive home, Bucky considered the ways you had changed in the few, short weeks since he vented to Sam and Steve about your clinginess. You didn't take meals with him, didn't cook, work-out, or do anything you used to do together. Sex? Forget it. Dates? Nope. Cuddling? No, you're always 'too hot'. And when he thought about it, he remembers seeing the wads of cash he'd leave for you stuffed in his sock drawer - surely trying to make him think it was just another emergency fund he had hidden. You never spent his money, feeling humiliated by his choice of words.
Clingy...
You didn't text or call him when he was gone, you hadn't even so much as kissed him in what felt like ages... Well, more like you hadn't initiated any kisses...
His heart weighed in his chest as he realized he hadn't even so much as hugged you in days. You were rarely in the apartment together, and when you were, you were just silent and busy with chores. It was as if you operated on the exact opposite schedule as he did, went to new extents to avoid him, and his heart clenched in his chest.
When he got home, you were caught cooking in the kitchen - being obvious that you weren't expecting him. The door slammed and his baritone voice snapped, "Peach!"
You gulped, holding the sauce-covered wooden spoon to your chest. When he rounded around the corner, he found you and slowed down, sighing in relief. "What's wrong?" You worried in a timid tone.
He panted lightly, relaying, "Needed to find you."
"I'm here."
"I know," he relented, charging up to you and engulfing you in a tight, heavy hug. "I needed to talk to you, Peach," he whispered.
"What's wrong?"
"You. You're what's wrong."
"What the fuck does that - "
"No, no," he pulled back to stare down at you fondly, "I don't mean it like that, just that... You're struggling. I can see that. But you're not alone, I'm here with you, and I got a little caught up in my head when I realized someone was so very dependent on me - it fucking scared me. But then... Then you just shut yourself off and hid away from me, and oh, my God, it's so much worse, baby. Don't do that," he breathed, "okay? Don't ever shut me out - don't stop loving me, don't stop talking to me, don't give up on us. I can't read your mind, you can't read mine, it's not an excuse - but we understand better when we trust each other enough to communicate what's required. I'm so sorry I got caught up in myself, I didn't know what you needed - but I'm here now, I'm here - I'm not leaving you."
You collapsed into his chest, taking a shuddering breath.
"Don't ever stop talking to me, Peach," Bucky whispered, kissing the top of your head; keeping you close. "I'm so sorry, baby, if I - "
"If?" You snapped, pulling back to glare at him through your tears. "I heard you, Bucky. I heard you talking to Sam and Steve, and about how clingy I am."
"I was wrong," he insisted. "I was overwhelmed and tired and just stretched thin, the easiest thing to do is attack those closest to me, and that's you. It's not right, it's the worst I could do to you after all you've been through, and I'm so sorry. I was wrong, you're not the person to take this out on - and I'm so sorry, Peach."
You sighed, "I don't mean to be... I don't mean to cling - "
"Nah," he chuckled, caressing your cheek, "you cling as much as you want. Cling as tight as you want, baby, don't let me go. I'm sorry for what I said and the way it made you feel, it was wrong - so fucking wrong of me, and I see that. When you pulled away from me, I just... I couldn't think. It felt so wrong, and I knew it was my fault." He took your face in both palms, promising, "I'm so sorry, Peach."
You shrugged meekly, "It's okay."
"It's not."
"No, but apologizing is a step in the right direction."
He nodded, "What else can I do?"
"Nothing - "
"Peach."
You paused to think, smiling shyly, "Movie night?"
"Whatever my pretty girl wants," he nodded.
"Hmm... Get a bath with me?"
"All right... Sure, okay..."
"And face masks."
He sighed, "Okay."
"And mani-pedis."
"Baby."
"You said you were making it up to me, right?"
He smirked, "That's right... All right, yeah, sure, fine, we can..." He sighed again, "We can do all that, Peach, whatever you want."
"I just want you," you told him softly. "I didn't mean to be so clingy. I was just afraid... I felt afraid everyday, just so very unsure in this life. You're the only thing that makes sense to me, Buck, and when I heard you, I just... I guess I realized how dependent I'd been and wanted to give you space. Last thing I want is to smother you, to drive you away from me."
"Not ever gonna happen," he promised softly. "I just didn't handle it like I should've. I'm sorry, Peach, but I'm here now - for whatever you need. Want me to take a few days off, just be together? I'll arrange it. Want to get away for a bit? We can go."
"I just need you," you whispered. "Only you and I should be okay - I can be okay if I have you, but feeling like I lost you? Even a fraction? Buck... James, it was such a harrowing feeling, I wasn't sure what to do to move forward. So, I think I just panicked, shut down; thought if I could just get back to normal, you'd love me again..."
"I never stopped loving you," he swore, "I just had a bad lapse in my own judgement. Nothing against you, baby. Nothing."
You nodded again, letting him tuck you into his chest; perfectly snug under his chin as he coiled his arms around you. He let out a long sigh, his guilt swelling to new heights, but for that present moment, everything seemed okay.
Felt okay.
Appeared okay.
And you'd both do whatever it took to remain as okay as you possibly could.

With tiredness still evident in your eyes, you worked the stove on, grabbing a pot to heat up water, standing still as you took the support of the marble countertop, your palms lay flat on it as you stared at the packet of mint chocolate that was in the shelf in front of you, something that Sunoo possibly had forgotten to take with him.
âNot sleepy?â A husky voice made you gasp and turn around, caging you right in between the counter and Heeseung.
âFuck! You scared me,â you gasped at his shirtless figure, âwhy the fuck are you awake and why are you not clothed?â You asked, distressed.
âI heard noises from the kitchen so I obviously had to come over and check,â he said, tilting his head innocently right after, âI have to make sure the princess is safe, right?â
âI can very well take care of myself, thanks,â you huffed, waiting for him to move, which did not happen.
âOkay, then try pushing me away,â Heeseung said, a slight close-lipped smirk present on his face.
You simply made use of the little space to pour the hot water into the cup noodles, covering it with its lid.
âYou love these games too much, donât you?â You said, finally looking up to see his body right in front of your face.
With thick yet lean muscles, he stood tall, his clavicles visible in an attractive fashion as the dim lights of the room only enhanced the slight traces of his abs, making it evident that Heeseung included working out in his daily routines.
You gulped unknowingly, closing your eyes for a second before meeting him, only for his eyes to fall on your lips for a slight enough, just enough for you to miss it.
âNot gonna push me?â He asked, still playful, but with a gentle rasp in his voice.
âYouâre not appropriately clothed for me to touch you, Heeseung,â you said, trying to muster a bored, unimpressed expression, as if your ears werenât burning warm.
âWhy? Does skin to skin contact scare you now?â He challenged, âone touch is all it takes, babe.â
âOh lord,â you groaned, stretching your neck back, only to find Heeseungâs gaze more intense than ever, âfine, move.â
You placed your cold hand on his warm torso, right above his heart, and you could have sworn it was beating a tad bit faster than how a normal heart should be beating.
Pushing him was practically impossible, especially when he bit his lip and chuckled, not moving an inch despite your efforts. The room felt warm as you scoffed and retrieved your hand.
âCanât move?â He teased.
âIâm just tired, move.â
âOr, youâre just weak.â
âThatâs all you can do Heeseung, challenge a tired girl whoâs trying to eat.â You pushed him again.
âIâm strong, princess. Donât you see?â He pointed at his body, and you closed your eyes yet again, trying to convert your feelings into anger.
âYour body might be strong but your fucking ego is weak.â You said finally shoving him enough for you to move.
âNow, now. Thatâs wrong, princess.â He said, grabbing your cup noodles and testing your patience yet again.
Messing with you was one thing.
Messing with you while you were sleepy was another thing.
But messing with you while you were sleepy and hungry, that was war.
âGive me the noodles back you small dicked asshole!â You chased after him.
He stopped you easily with a hand, twirling you around and pulling you back, his bare chest pressed against your back.
âSmall dick, hm?â He mumbled, keeping the noodles on the counter beside you, dragging his warm fingers across your bare tummy, stopping right on your belly button, âit would go up to here, yeah,â he caressed the area before letting go of you.
You stood there, breathing hard as your cheeks burned with the implication of his cock in your cunt.
âHow do you even get women, all talk and no action?â You asked, walking back to your room with the noodles in your hands, avoiding the fact that you were completely flustered.
âOh Iâll show you all the action you need to see, princess,â he winked as you turned to look at him, his hands stuffed in the pocket of his sweatpants, âgânight, darling,â he smirked, walking away as you spent the night punching your pillow, eating your now soggy noodles.
Lee Heeseung was going to be the end of you.
