“I knew,” James hums, “because I watched you when you were alone.” He kisses Regulus’ cunt and runs his hand up and down his thigh. “Because I watched you when you touched yourself.”

i have talked about atib here before and i will talk about it again because it is just,, so good. if you like greek mythology, or even just the story of icarus and apollo, you will love this fic. i reread it daily and probably will continue to do so for a very long time

It all happens in the span of seconds. His body plummets toward the ocean in a rapid plunge, the air that once held him aloft now pushing him downward. Sudden rain pours down from the formerly cloudless sky and stirs up the seas to churn and lurch every which way, and thunder and lightning join the cacophony of chaos that dooms him. His eyes burn with oncoming tears, and he calls out a plea to the gods he knows will be ignored.

As he crashes into the water, he reaches for the sun.

OH THANK YOU😭that fic is really everything to me. i poured a part of my soul into it that will never be taken out. the last chapter is going to be written sometime this week and i will never be the same. not even with the sequel. i will have both lost and gained something irrevocable.

“Perhaps. I also find your mortal particularly delicious. Ariadne does as well. You are alright in stature, I suppose, but that little mortal of yours…I just would like a taste. Just this once, and I will protect you from the gods’ loose lips until the end of time. What do you say, hm?” he leans forward, flopping over on his stomach and resting his chin on his folded hands. James tongues his cheek as Barty bats his eyes with a faux innocent stare. 

“If I approve,” he begins, “nothing shall be done if my Regulus refuses. And if he approves, there will be no kissing him –”

“Deal is off.”

“Oh, go to the crows! Fine, you may place your mouth wherever you wish, so long as he agrees, other than his lips. Respect what is mine, Bartemius,” he warns with a deadly serious tone. “He must retain some form of physical contact with me at all times, and you may not place your hands anywhere near our child.”

Barty huffs a drawn-out groan and flicks him on the knee.

“You are so dull, Goldy,” he complains. “Any more ridiculous terms and conditions?”

summary:

james makes a life-changing decision to save regulus and their baby from death and manipulation. then, they all get a little farm, get married, and live happily ever after <3 after the actual Plot, i might just extend the fic for like…ever as a fluffy slice-of-life jegulus raising their baby in the ancient greek countryside au

“Well…” Dorcas begins. “We have only a short time before your mortal wakes. What is it?”

“The only thing I can do. The only thing I wish to do,” James says, still pressing his lips to his Regulus’ skin. “I have had it done to me before. Now, for the first time, it is voluntary, and it is permanent.”

“You understand what you are giving up by choosing this path?” Dorcas queries with urgency. She watches James with an expression of neutrality, but underneath it is one of worry.

James looks back at her, and he does not see Hades.

He sees the goddess he has called family for millennia of his mortal life. The goddess who has cared for him as mortal aunts do for their nephews, to the point of going against the king of the gods for his benefit. To make the decision James will be choosing is to give up not only her support, but the support of all he has ever known.

None of this makes him doubt his choice.

“I understand,” he confirms.
