[SPOILER ALERT 🚨] Long Jegulus Rant

I will say the one thing I love about anti-hero by rweoutofthewoods is the characterization of James. It’s similar to the James in Pathological People Pleaser in the sense that James is not perfect, but it specifically calls that headcanon out & challenges it.

They both give you this ideal James, but then blow it to pieces by showing you just how unstable & imperfect he is. Simply because it’s unfair how he as a character has to hold it together while everyone is falling apart. It’s painful to read because I’m so used to volatile emotions but never from James. Especially directed towards Regulus.

Reading the things he says to Regulus makes my brain default to “James would never…”, but in reality we all say nasty things sometimes & he’s no exception. I feel like reading this fic impacts me on a deeper level as well since I internalize a lot of the same ideas/feelings about myself that Regulus does about himself.

I struggle to be honest about how hurt I feel, & I’d rather brush it off even though it rots me away. While at the same time people hurting me makes me want to hurt them back, but more (it’s a fatal flaw of mine & volatile).

Regulus as a character strikes me deeply because I understand him a bit too well, so when James is cruel (while I can understand it) it hurts me the way it hurts Regulus. That’s why the headcanon of James being perfect is far too one dimensional & inaccurate as much as I love me that grumpy/sunshine trope, getting a deeper James is always appreciated.

But also I need them to love each other again…I’m suffering…please Jegulus…my loves…we can do better than this 🥹…

My favourite “what if” in the marauders fandom is “What if Regulus Black survived the cave?”

There are so many ways this could have impacted the story, for the better or for the worse.

For the better, Regulus manages to destroy the horcrux, for example.

For the worse, Regulus fails to destroy the horcrux, for example.

So many lives would be different if Regulus Black had survived but so many lives would also still have been lost, maybe even characters who wouldn’t have died if he had in the first place.

Like, Regulus Black, as much as it pains me to say, had NO impact on the story for the better, because in the end, he made it harder for Harry to do what needed to be done.

Thing is, had Regulus survived, maybe Harry would never of had to fight a war he didn’t start, a war he had no part in.

Maybe Lily and James wouldn’t have died.

Sirius, Remus, Tonks.

Maybe a lot of good would have come from it.

Maybe a lot of bad would have come from it.

WE DONT KNOW AND IT KILLS ME.

I enjoy reading fics like this. I enjoy making them too. It’s so interesting because Regulus goes from being a nobody death eater who died trying to spite Voldemort and destroy his horcrux to Regulus who could have been so much more if only circumstances were different.

"you only live twice" by drift99 is also really good, it's wolfstar, jily (jegulily later on ehehe), polyamory time travel bullshit (literally my favourite kind of bullshit). remus and hermione saving the world, underrated friendship tbh [completed, 47 chapters, 95k words]

"saccharine" by moonymoment is a sweet little (maybe not little, but shorter than my usual 100k+ word fics) wolfstar modern ghost au! background jily, happy ending, basically sirius is a ghost that haunts remus' apartment and its really domestic

I LOVE ANTI HERO SO SO MUCH DUDE like I remember reading it last year and not putting my phone down until it was done, it's a PROBLEM. Whenever I think about reg lives I think about that even when I've read so many others with the concept it's just so...AAAAA. The desert scene of forever stuck in my mind for some reason idk 😭

I personally will probably not read the others (the people who know my blog could smell this coming, I see you) because wolfstar and jily aren't really my thing anymore (I dealt with a few elitist/aggressive fans over the years which has unfortunately just completely put me off being able to enjoy any content for them anymore :( still makes me sad icl) but!! I will tag it with them so all the people who DO love them can see these recs and go and read them if they haven't already because the premises look SO cool

My Thoughts: this fic is actually one of my all time favs. I have no way of explaining it but this fic has a special place in my heart and I think it always will. I love the way that mental health is explored in this fic, (ptsd, bipolar, depression, anxiety, etc.). This fic is so so beautiful and I definitely recommend it. Regulus is my favourite badass and I love how Mere writes him.

Okay guys!! Here is my review of anti-hero by rweoutofthewoods!!!! I literally just finished this fic like 2 minutes ago and wow. BEAUTIFUL ENDING!!! Like I think that beautiful and real endings like that r just the best thing ever. Like after all that heartbreak, sadness, and tragedy like everything is okay. Like UGH WOW!!

I think I loved the friendships between everyone the most out of everything. Like Regulus and Lily, Regulus and Remus, and Narcissa and Lily. And like omfg do not get me started on Lily like FAVE CHARACTER!! Like idk she is just so me with all of her sister issues 😭😭😭😭 #twinsies

I really just LOVE rweoutofthewoods’ writing style like the dialogue just feels so natural and like realistic. And I love all the inside thought monologues that each character would have. I like love getting to understand characters and how they tick and ugh it was just so good in this!!
