Day 2: confession

YAYYY TODDAI YAYYYYYY YAYYYY!

Alright, time to talk about what possessed me to ship them and how I think this confession would play out.

For me, both Mai and Toddy are lonely in their own ways.

Toddy carries the weight of her relationship with Bon—she loved him deeply and genuinely, but it was never reciprocated romantically. Beyond that, she’s his friend, yet she feels out of place among Bon’s other friends, as if he’s almost embarrassed to admit he enjoys her company. She has no deep connections with anyone her age; Bon prefers his “better” friends and even some guy he just met over her. She’s left standing on the outside, alone.

And it’s not like she doesn’t know why. Toddy is blunt to the point of rudeness, struggles with social cues, and lacks tact in conversations. She doesn’t sugarcoat things or bother with fake niceties—either because she doesn’t realize how harsh she sounds or because she refuses to play along with social conventions she sees as meaningless. Some social rules make sense, don't be too loud, don't look sloppy, dont chew with your mouth open. But fakeness? That serves no purpose. In a world that often pushes people like her aside, she holds her ground. She’s independent, skilled, and knowledgeable. Why pretend to like something she doesn’t? Why follow unwritten social rules that seem arbitrary?

Mai, on the other hand, mostly sticks to her family. People don’t really like her, and that’s fine—she doesn’t resent it. She can’t resent much of anything. Her mind is wired for relentless positivity, to the point where she struggles to understand sadness, let alone why some people need to feel it. She’s loud, strange, and exhausting to be around, so most people don’t stick around. They have their real friends, and Mai is just… there.

Like her sibling, Mai believes love is unattainable for her. Not because she’s unworthy, but because she’s missing some fundamental pieces of what makes a person "normal." And that’s okay. She’s just too weird to be loved in that way—it’s not self-deprecation; it’s just a fact. No reason to be sad about it.

Their similarities draw them together. They’re both "too much," both incapable of filtering their words, both struggling with empathy in conventional ways. But instead of clashing, they understand each other. Mai blurts out whatever comes to mind, not to be cruel, but because that’s just how she is. Her response to emotional distress is suffocating positivity because that’s all she knows. Toddy doesn’t bother with fake pleasantries or polite omissions—why would she? To her, honesty is the only thing that matters. The very things that alienate them from others become a shared language between them.

They’d start as friends—close friends—confusing everyone around them. After all, Toddy is someone who is all caught up on looking "good" and "proper", while Mai is the weirdest kid in school. By all logic, their relationship should be antagonistic

But then there’s Mai, showing up at odd hours, pestering Toddy late at night just because she can. Toddy, exasperated, telling her to dress warmer because it’s freezing. Mai ignoring her, dragging her along to one of her favorite spots—a quiet place where the stars shine brighter than anywhere else.

And there, under the vast sky, she confesses. No theatrics, no layers of mystery, no grand gesture. Just simple words, because that’s how Toddy likes things.

And Toddy says yes. Loudly. Immediately. Throwing herself into a hug, because that’s how Mai likes things.

fhs shipping week day 4: breakup

THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGGGG

so. this takes place in z3r0 (ignore thar cami has her s2 hair please). golden, like the other animatronics, had his shadow corrupted and needed to be liberated by freed. but gold, as we know, works closely with the villains. they had an interest in keeping him around and powerful. so, cami goes to the shadow world to stop freed and defend gold. she fails, though, gold is defeated and golden recovers his memories.

during z3r0, cami had convinced golden to join owynn and the rest in organizing the event. they became close, very close. they liked each other and talked abt their deepest fears and concerns, for golden, this included feeling used by his family. golden was completely unaware that she had hypnotized him before, and that she first approached him to try and rectify her first failure, to try and hypnotize him again. he was unaware she kept him around in case they needed gold again. so, once he regained his memories, he remembered the camp arc, and that cami had hypnotized him. he recognized her, and realized that she never cared for him, that she was using him all this time, and remembered how awful it felt to completely lose control of his own body during the camp arc. she, the person who knew better than anyone how much he hated feeling used, had used him. she had ulterior motives to be close to him. she was planning on using him again. she had stripped him of all agency. she's even worse than his family.

with time, cami did become fond of golden. she cares for him and likes him genuinly. but she can't face going against owynn, against everything she believes and had worked on. so, she just kept going, trying to ignore her feelings. but she can't. she feels guilty, but she won't show it and won't tell golden. she has to follow the plan. being in love with a peon would ruin it.

OKAY ENOUGH OF THAT LET'S TALK ABT THE ACTUAL DRAWING. i know that panels 2 and 3 are in the wrong order thats why i put the numbers. sorry for being stupid. ouu i made golden's hair less fluffy and a little messy to show his emotional state. i also made his clothes less put together for this same reason. i thought it would be cool for this drawing to be in black and white so i decided to try out the manga shadow thingy with the dots. it was painstakingly tedious but i like the result so it was worth it. the song is one i always imagine golden would sing when realizing cami used him. i think it protrays well how he feels, although it doesn't exactly fit the vibe of this drawing in particular, oh well.

could you talk more about how humans house animal souls in Extant Decay? Or about how the zombies work :3?

humanity lost their own souls around the time that they began to use their intelligence to harm the environment (ie hunting tools), thus beginning the cycle of reincarnation. it isn't known exactly how this happened - whether this was a single event or a gradual loss through the birth of a new generation but humanity has been housing animal souls for at least 50,000 years, though it's possible they lost them up to 2million years ago

not every animal that dies is reborn into a human. only animals that died an unnatural death - the result of higher (human) intelligence - get reborn as a human. because of this, it's speculated that other species may end up losing their souls as they also evolve to develop higher intelligence. there has been research into dolphins, apes and crows, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence to suggest that they have or will lose their souls like humanity any time soon

a zombie results from a bio-spiritual mutation that triggers when a human dies a violent death. the animal soul gets stuck in the body, fused with the flesh which causes it to transform as it rots and the only way it can now be freed to the afterlife is by dying naturally. however, zombies can only die by two ways: live cremation and gradual decay. zombies are actively decaying at an incredibly slow pace that only eating meat which contains vital proteins for cell repair in zombies (red meat + human meat). zombies who are cremated become lost/wandering souls, unable to move on to the afterlife or be reborn.

when a zombie goes hungry, it enters this state resembling the behaviors of a rabies infection. this state has 5 stages: dormant stage, hunger stage, dissociative stage, panic stage, and ravenous stage. a zombie entering the Feral Hunger State will become feral and animalistic, and becomes violent for food. zombies that come from a carnivorous soul can only stave off the FHS with meat, while zombies from other soul species can stave off the FHS with an appropriate omnivorous diet. however, carnivorous zombies don't need to eat as often as other zombies might, as a zombie's eating habits also reflects that of their soul species. omnivorous zombies enter the feral hunger state much faster on average than a zombie of a purely carnivorous nature. zombies that enter the FHS quickly, and zombies that devour anybody, are usually hunted and exterminated in short time.

HELL YEAH THE ANGST. Cami betraying Golden's trust in the worst way possible even when she grows to like him is such a knife twist for the both of them, and one of the best parts of the ship for me tbh. Golden saying she's worse than his family is GREAT. You can see the despair in his face... Awesome.
