So much happened this episode, I didn’t even comment on the Vulture Dimension. The Vulture Riddle. One riddle with two multiple choice answers and you must answer immediately no you cannot take a breath or lock eyes you must answer as one or die.

my favorite moments of episode 9 of fantasy high junior year!!:

the vulture king being silly and accommodating ("kiss him!!!" "no i know that's a trick" *fig kisses him on the beak* "okay so he's into it")

zac’s tactical yorbies “are you a god?” “i don’t know man”

slow bus on grass, ruben chasing it, and tucker, the illusory man who doesn’t know he’s an illusion (also murph’s reaction to the bus “what’s is wanda’s actual deal?!?!?!”)

“do you have a fucking warrant”

kristen rolling really well to get the rat’s attention and then gorgug just saying “kristen i don’t know if it can vote”

there’s definitely no rat stores with rat mannequins in the rat world under the school…

“sick, we’re gonna find your husband” “or wife” “or wife!! or…. partner”

the discovery of yolanda and lucy and the half done cleanup/reporting stuff actually stressed my tf out and i didn’t appreciate it however kristen’s ritual was so beautiful and she got her spells back!!

Vulture clash starts off like "Haha you're in the Vulture Dimension" and then ends with "You find the battered corpses of your teacher and a former classmate. Not even the strongest spells could bring either of them back because of sigils carved into their chests that prevents them from moving on. All you can do is attempt to lay their souls to rest, and you do."

See, the part for me that made me tear up was the balance between the fact that Kristen *has to* perform miracles, and the fact that Kristen *can* perform miracles. I have been trying to type out a succinct way of describing the layers about this I feel, and might type more up later, but I think that is an important aspect of growing up. The bittersweetness of "you have to do this hard thing, there is no adult around to make it all better, no matter how much you want there to be" and "you are capable of doing very hard things."

... yeah, I'm gonna have to write something about Kristen and attachment and self-parenting, gods damn it.

FHJY SPOILERS Episode 9 Vulture Clash:

We’re laughing and having a good time with fantasy high (jk were all stressed but we love it anyways) but I can’t stop thinking of the image of Kristen finding her teacher murdered in the forest, her attacker having made a point to banish her soul after the fact so she can’t be revived, in effect never allowing her to truly rest. The image of how upon inspecting closer, these kids find the body of their former peer, believed missing for months, left callously to rot next to the first. The image of Kristen reaching out to her Goddess of Doubt for something. Anything. To save, to spare her soul, to relieve the ground they lie on of whatever was made to taint it, and she gets nothing. Kristen haunted by the reminder, the reminder Yolonda gave her, that Kristen has to perform the miracles Cassandra cannot. Kristen unable to do anything else but start weeping.

Riz’s investigation revealing that multiple assailants killed Lucy. That the blunt force that killed Yolonda was so hard that the carbon in her blood pressurized into diamonds. Fabian says they need to get an adult. Can they please just get an adult.
