14. Telling.
In Il Mheg there's a bush, self-propelling,
And who it is, there's no way of telling,
But my crafting processes,
Might help with his guesses,
And lead him to a leafy dispelling.
FFXIVwrite2024 gets into some horticultural silliness!

So I went back on break a while ago. But not before finishing up Nitowikwe questline; the new custom delivery client. I didn't really like it. Not much happens until the last bit of the story. This is sad. I usually have stuff to talk about with this type of content, like with Ehll Tou, Margrat, Anden, Ameliance, Charlemend or even Kai-Shirr. Etc... Etc... You get it.
This is my least favorite DT custom delivery client so far. I'm not even gonna bother doing the 150 collectable grind for this one. I usually reserve that type of grind for the clients that I end up enjoying. Like with the six clients that I've mentioned already.
Yeeeaaaah, I'm starting to get a bit more concerned. Outside of the music, Alliance raid and some moments from MSQ, I didn't really like the 7.1x patch cycle content.
And before you ask, no I didn't do the chaotic raid. I just get DRS flashbacks. How?! People kept leaving after 1-3 pulls and we'd constantly have to wait for our party to refill. Mind you that this was on day 1 and we were in a discord. Even some people in the discord were confused as to why people were leaving so soon.

So, yeah, I don't see myself doing that type of raid anytime soon.
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy myself on the first week. But the was in 7.1. The 7.1x content just wasn't it. For me at least. I really really just hope 7.2 will be better.
Sidenote: Wait, I almost forgot! I was so out of it, that I didn't even craft my gear for my DoL/DoH. And I started crafting my stuff last expansion. But anyway... The lastest gear for DoL and DoH is so good. Like, LOOK! The gear pieces are clean!! He got that shit on! 👀💦
Also, I wish the latest dungeon gear was dyeable. Why do they keep doing this?! :(
So, yeah, Ehll Tou is still my favorite custom delivery client. I hope 7.2 will be better. (Fingers crossed!) We have a Live Letter on Feb 7th for Patch 7.2 Part 1; so we'll see. And thank you for buying some of my stuff, random people! Okay, enough rambling! Bye now!

"Go, go! Save yourself! I'll buy you some time!"
The Light came borne on the wings of beasts that looked an awful lot like marble. The residents of Il Mheg had heard tales of such things, of course, but never truly believed them. It was just too fantastical, wasn't it?
It was a myth, until it wasn't. The first was an oddly-coloured wolf prowling out of the woods, jaws slavering the liquid Light.
"Looks like it just gave good head," Alin joked over its corpse, carefully retrieving his arrow from its side. Anden sighed, rolling his eyes.
"Even at the end times," said Anden, shaking his head.
"You know it," Alin grinned, and, wiping off his arrow, returned it to its quiver.
"Rak'tika has fallen, then," said Anden. All of Alin's good humour faded away as he turned to really look at his boyfriend, hands on his shoulders.
"No... Twelve, not them, they have to be okay," Alin fretted, blond ears folding back. "They're warriors, they're strong, they'll be okay."
"I have to believe that." Anden squeezed his eyes shut, though it did little to stop the tears. "I couldn't protect them, but I can protect the flock."
With no more words spoken, Anden started forward, first striding, then running through the forest, breaking into a sprint to get back to his flock.
Alin found him with his arms around one of the woolly creatures, squeezing it tightly as sobs wracked his body. The sheep, meanwhile, looked confused, though allowed itself to be hugged.
"What if I'm the only one left, Alin?" he wept, turning his tear-streaked face towards the other viera. Or viis, as Alin was called here.
"It'll be okay," Alin tried to soothe him, but Anden would have none of it.
"How?" Anden demanded. "The warriors of darkness are gone, Alin, they're dead! Nobody has seen them since they started all this."
"Titania," Alin offered. "They'll protect us, surely."
"But the sheep are not the fae," said Anden. "I'm not fae, Alin, you're not even of this world!" It was true, neither of them knew how Alin had come from Eorzea to whatever this world was.
Before Alin could even search for a reply, the sound of heavy marble wings alerted him. They had come. Anden growled, fetching his shepherd's crook from his back and running towards the fell beast that descended from the sky. It looked like a woman.
"You will not harm my sheep!" Anden declared, holding the crook like a mage might wield a staff.
The woman laughed.
Her blade flashed, Light cascading from it as it carved a shallow gash in Anden's left arm.
But that was enough.
"No!" Alin cried, stepping forward, but his voice got through to Anden even as the Light began to bleach his tanned skin.
"Go, go!" Anden urged him, making a stand in front of his lover. "Save yourself! I'll buy you some time!"
"I can't just leave you!" Alin protested.
"You have to," said Anden, his face twisted in pain. The Sin Eater watched him. Grinning. Waiting. "Please, Alin. Get help."
"New friends! Over here, over here!" Alin looked up, a nigh-hysterical laugh bubbling up. It was them. The faery king. Titania. Come to save them.
The beasts turned, now, looking at the bigger threat to them, massing around the biggest Sin Eater. A Lightwarden, Alin was sure. But he only looked for a moment, kneeling at Anden's side as the viis collapsed to the ground, his crook falling from his hand, writhing in agony.
"Anden? Anden, hey, look at me," said Alin. "It's going to be alright." Tears blurred his vision, but Anden was blinding to look at.
"Of course it is," said Anden, his voice sounding far away. "Titania is here now. They will protect my flock."
"And you too!" Alin declared, looking around. He spied a pixie, a glimmer of hope. "Hey, you! Over here! Please!" He couldn't speak fae, not like Anden could, yet they understood him anyway.
"Now, now, what's all this crying about?" the pixie asked, and Alin sobbed aloud.
"He's hurt," said Alin. "Turning. Can you... can you save him?"
"For his love and care towards our sheep," said the pixie, and there was a spark of something as they touched Anden's forehead. "Now, he may stand guard over them always."
It was a topiary now, in Alin's arms. A leafman, the fae called them. It appeared to be smiling as Alin righted it.
"When all this is over," Alin said to it, unsure if it could hear him, "I'll watch over your sheep for you. I promise." He kissed what he supposed was the leafman's forehead.
And then, as the faery king returned to their castle to lock the doors for one hundred years, Alin made for Lakeland on the back of an amaro, the skies safe for a time with the Lightwarden vanquished. He would return. He promised.

anden is the funniest ffxiv character to me. i love him so fucking much im cackling
its been months since did his custom delivery questline but these have been singed into my head ever since
I DIDNT SS THEM BOTH DOING /SHOCK WHICH PISSES ME OFF BUT I DREW IT INSTEAD
oc ramblings undercut
honestly in my head i like to think that the First!Noi is literally so normal. a normal guy. he works in the Crystarium as part of the crystalline mean. and i actually had the idea of a blue quest where he's connected to the anden questline because my HC is that Anden and Noi were childhood friends LMAO
alongside my third OC, Viper. who is relatively normal in his ffxiv edition compared to how i use him in my oc rp groups LMAO
in my head the custom delivery quest connects to a follow up blue quest where Noi in the Crystarium asks the Warrior of Light about the rumours he's heard about Ilhl Mheg. He says he used to belong to a tribe further in the forest of Fanow, but for a brief time, he went to Voeburtite for a bit with his two childhood friends. They all picked out names—he chose Noi, because he liked the calm and quiet, where his friend chose Viper because he thought it was cool, but his last friend preferred to blend in and chose Anden.
"When the Light came in, I was worried for my siblings," Noi says. "I seperated myself from my friends and returned to my forest to ensure their safety." His voice is quiet. "Well, things went awry in the process, and I couldn't save them in the end. I followed the wave of refugees and eventually found myself a place here, under the Exarch's guidance. I'm happier, now, honestly, but in the quiet moments of the night I find myself wondering all too often what happened to the rest of my people." "Tales of your visits - especially your exploits in the former ruins of Voeburtite stroke a bit of a chord in me. What was it like there?"
The Warrior of Light tells him about their adventures directly, and Noi listens with keen interest.
"Wait. You said you have met Gillte— I mean, Anden? Truly? Gods, a miracle in itself... I'm sorry to impose, but would you mind taking me to him?"
They bring Noi to Anden's sheep shed where he has all his fairy friends and its like such a sweet reunion but also with some pixies almost threatening to turn Noi into a leaf man too im crying
"Wait, I recognize those highlights.... Could it be, Ukina? You survived!" Anden's ears perk up in astonishment. "You are the one who defied all odds here, Gilltett," he laughs, light and lilting. "Though it is very much like you to have managed to worm your way into every heart. You were always the sweetest one of us." "Ha, I assure you, it wasn't all that great," Anden scratches his cheek, no doubt recalling his times as a leafy green. "But I am glad to be back to the shape of a man. I can finally properly tend to the sheep as I should be." "Always the animals first with you, huh?" Noi chuckles, then turns to the Warrior of Light. "Thank you for reuniting me with my friend. I couldn't even dare hope to know that my family could have survived like this, but even if it's just my tribe brother, it is enough."
as a quest reward he gives high quality food. im crying
ITS MY HC that he is there afterwards and is in cutscenes whenever you turn in custom delivery quests. he visits anden often but for whatever reasons the pixies are scared of him HAHGSKGJHKSDHJG (they sense the freak nature that was roughly avoided here)
sometimes you see anden in the crystarium by the cafe having coffee with noi. and there's a third male viera there which is my other oc, viper! theyre hanging out.
Noi tells Anden that he's found a beloved, who is also a viera, and theyve both moved passed their old traditions in favour of staying together. they've gotten married so he can't go back and breed with the old tribe in fanow LMAOO and anden is like omg, that makes sense buddy. viper gets pissed off though and hes like IF NEITHER OF YOU WILL TAKE UP THE OFFER ILL GO MYSELF!!!!11!!1!1
he is absolutely skeletal when he gets back to the crystarium after which is so funny in my head. i will be drawing a comic about this

FFXIV Write 2023 #1: Envoy
Spoilers: Post-Endwalker, spoilers possible
In a field of flowers, Cereza stood dreaming.
She knew in the back of her mind - or perhaps in the front of Ardbert’s - that this wasn’t where she fell asleep, but merely a dream projection of Il Mheg. But the glamour of faeries is tangible, even in dreams, and it wasn’t so easy to tell the difference. The flowers smelled as real; the sun, no longer obscured by the blinding light, shone down as bright as when she’d visited last, after turning Anden back into his proper self.
But she wasn’t there now. No, this was her mind being called from afar, and only one person here had the power - and the right - to do so. Feo Ul! My beautiful branch! Why did you call for me?”
She heard a giggle, and a red light appeared and spun around her before taking the diminutive avatar form of a crimson pixie. Though not the full Feo Ul, they were in all ways Cereza’s companion. “Ah, caught me well, ye did, my sapling! Alas, it’s not so easy for me to reach you on that side of the Rift in other ways. And, while I can visit you anywhere on this world when you visit, and I’m grateful for the visits ye’ve made, I can’t call you too far from the center of my being.”
Cereza smiled. She was glad the pixie was in a good mood, and not calling out of bitterness for not visiting - but then, she HAD made it a point to visit the First, and to call to her “branch” on each such visit, when time permitted. But often, it was to visit places other than Il Mheg, to let Feo Ul see more of the world. “Well, it IS a lovely place,” she said honestly. “But I am a bit curious as to why you would call me at all in this way? Is something the matter?”
Feo Ul faked a pout. “Ah, down to business, is it then?” But they sighed and shrugged and smiled again. “Ah, that’s you to a tee, and I wouldn’t change it. And your perception is accurate again - I’m actually repaying a favor to someone. The mayor of the ocean city asked to see you.”
“I’m frankly wondering how he managed to earn a favor from you,” Cereza said, and not entirely in jest. It was rare that the pixies made themselves known to mortals, and rarer still that they would earn such a deal.
“Well, strictly speaking, the favor was… kind of a chain of them. It was actually called in by Ryne, who had heard something from Lue-Reeq, who in turn heard something from one of the Honeybees, who… oh, it doesn’t matter. The mayor has something going on - I did look into it, don’t worry, it’s a real thing worthy of your attention - and he was wishing he could have the aid of Alphinaud and his friends. And while most of them can’t jump the gap…”
Cereza put two and two together. “Ah, I can. What’s the issue - or rather, what would I KNOW the issue was, from that chain of rumours?”
Feo Ul laughed. “It’s something about a visitor. A foreign dignitary - to use the words my bigger self knows as king - from someplace that apparently hasn’t been heard from in a while since the flood.”
That caught Cereza’s full attention. “Interesting. From what I recall, there wasn’t a lot left to the world - mostly just the equivalent of Aldenard on the Source.” She looked around the “Dream” and said, “Would I be able make things… materialize here? I’ve done that before in Cid’s dream…”
Feo Ul nodded. “It’s like summoning that carbuncle of yours… but less mathy and more poof-y.”
Cereza sighed at the lack of advice, but took what little she got to heart and considered it. She closed her eyes, reached out her hand, and imagined the map and board, letting the shapes take form and channeling aether through them. Whether or not it moved the aether in reality, in this space, it appeared in front of her - a map of Eorzea, on a chalkboard like the ones in Sharlayan. “So… Eulmore is where Limsa is. Lakeland is Mor Dhona. Ahm Araeng is Ul’dah and Thanalan, and Rak’tika is the Shroud…” She imagined some pins and marked the map, considering. “And Voebert is equivalent to Ishgard… and from what the Qitari mentioned, there’s nothing like a nation out where Ala Mhigo would be. So that leaves….” She checked the map again, and nodded. “Something in Dravania? North and west of Voebert?”
Feo Ul danced around the map and considered the conjecture. “That seems right enough from what they said. What kind of place is that in this world?”
Cereza considered the question. “One part is the remnants of a Sharlayan colony., over on the west coast… but that part is covered by the Flood, from what I can recall. That leaves the Forelands,” she said, pointing to a wooded area, “which aren’t really occupied except by bug people and hunters… oh, and dragons. Or it leaves the Churning mists above that, which is again mostly Dragons but also Moogles…”
Except, she thought, that hadn’t always been the case, now had it?
“But there WERE people there before. In the most recent times, there were ancestors to the Ishgardians. The “Landlords,” the Moogles called them. They were allies with the Dragons. Even without the dragons, there may have been something similar in the First…” She turned to Feo Ul. “Do you know anything about that?”
Feo Ul shook their head. “Not my wheelhouse unfortunately. The Crown comes with knowledge aplenty, but not on such things as were before the Fae took over the empty castles in this land.”
Cereza nodded. “How urgent was the request? Do I have time to visit someone before I come over to the First?”
Feo Ul shrieked in delight before composing themselves. “Ah… yes. I think the envoy is a few days out. I suppose a day or two delay wouldn’t hurt.”
Cereza nodded. “Well then, I need to speak to a few friends. Then I’ll probably head to Bookman’s Shelves. But… I suppose I should visit you in the castle first, as is proper?”
Feo Ul’s shout was even happier than before. “Of course! I’d be glad to be your escort.” It was harder for them to compose themselves as they asked, “Should I let Ryne know when you’re coming and have her meet you?”
Cereza nodded as she felt the sleep come to an end. “Please. I could use a hand looking through the books when I get there.”
Feo Ul smiled. “Good to hear! I cannot wait for you, my sapling. Waken now, and I’ll see you soon!”
Cereza opened her eyes slowly as she stretched out of the sheets on the island cabin cot. The mammets were already at work on the farm, managing everything, but otherwise, she was alone. She yawned and called over the caretaker, leaving instructions as she dressed and readied herself. Once she was sure her instructions would be followed, she turned her gaze upwards towards the moon, locking on to a spot just north of the largest crater and feeling the flow of aether that twirled around the spinning crystal built into the structure there.
Once she’d isolate the currents, she closed her eyes, and felt the aether lift her up as her body slipped into the shallowest parts of the Lifestream, blinking out in a burst of light to go visit an old friend.
