Bat boys x Archeron sisters parallel, "hold on tight" edition 😉
Elain and Azriel 🌹🦇
Azriel scooped up Elain, looping her bound arms around his neck. “Hold tight,” he ordered her, “and don’t make a sound.”
Acowar - Chapter 64
Feyre and Rhysand 🌠🦇
In his stare, I could have sworn galaxies swirled. In the shadows between his wings, the glorious depths of the night dwelled.
“Hard enough to make the pictures fall off,” I reminded him, breathless.
He laughed again, low and wicked. “Hold on tight, then.”
Acofas - Chapter 22
Nesta and Cassian ⚔️🦇
Cassian rose behind her, gripping her hips. He knocked a knee against each of her own, spreading her legs wider. Callused fingertips brushed down the length of her spine, over the tattoo there, the ink binding them.
He leaned to whisper in her ear, “Hold on tight.”

The fact that there are people who genuinely believe that sjm would make any other characters besides Feyre and Rhys, the actuals FMC AND MMC OF ACOTAR, the high king and high queen of prythian, again, tells you everything you need to know about acotar fandom.

Seeing people hating Nesta so much but loving Feyre and saying how different they are and how their experiences and point of views set them apart, all the while ignoring how they are two sides of the same coin and parallel each other. In this essay, I will---

The fact that while under the mountain rhys missed the night sky and Azriel in the cell they kept him was deprived of sun...and their loves being moon and sun to them...THAT DOES IT FOR ME.
Rhys comparing Feyre’s beauty to the moon and Azriel comparing Elain’s to the sun 🥹
🌙 “You're the bigger male most days. You're entitled to a slipup." She smiled broadly. Bright as the full moon, lovelier than any star.
🌄 Soft steps padded from under the stair archway, and there she was. The faelights gilded Elain's unbound hair, making her glow like the sun at dawn. She halted, her breath catching in her throat.

Sinbad ⚔️ A Court of Silver Flames
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, she is here! The full illustration in all its piratey glory. The more I think about the parallels between Sinbad & Marina and Nesta & Cassian the more art I want to make of this crossover. Someone said they also resemble Livia and Erik from The Ever King series which I’m glad they brought up. I was seeing them as well when drawing this and almost just switched to it being them instead.
I have already finished piece 2 of this series and y’all have already guessed correctly which characters and what movie I combined in the sneak peek👀👀👀 I have also already sketched out Feysand’s piece and the film I chose for them is unexpected but fits them perfectly in my opinion. 😩👌🏻
I am trying to find more duos to draw …. I’m thinking Rowan & Aelin but the film I’d choose for them I already chose for Feysand….hmmmm. There is much to brainstorm. If y’all have classic childhood film suggestions send me my way 🫶🏻
Actually…. What classic films and their main characters would y’all think Livia/Erik, Jude/Cardan, and Aelin/Rowan would resemble well? I can only think of Treasure Planet, Quest for Camelot, Atlantis, Anastasia….what other iconic underrated animated films are there???

Now this has likely already been analyzed and theorized over the course of the past 3-4 years in this fandom, but since I haven't seen it before I am presenting a theory:
We all read the Elriel moment with the potato dish in ACOSF and clocked it as something interesting. It's not necessarily romantic per se, but it's thoughtful. It's odd enough to call attention to such a normal scene of serving dinner that I raised my eyebrows and wondered why SJM even wrote this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, bear with me while I present the same content for the 308th time probably, but this time, like a tour guide at Jurassic park:
A few things to call out here:
See how Elain goes still at the sight of Azriel? It's parallel to that scene in ACOWAR where Cassian & Azriel both go still at the sight of Nesta & Elain.
Tumblr media
Then we have Azriel. He "just moved towards her", like it was instinct. AND THEN - here's the real keep-you-awake-at-night point: Mor tenses
Why does she tense? Why are HER reactions to Elriel moments always so peculiar? Even in ACOWAR, we have this moment when Azriel disappears (where did he go?) and Mor stares at where he had been standing? What is Mor thinking?
Tumblr media
It's interesting because we don't know what her powers are other than "Truth" - whatever tf that means. What if she sees something between Elain & Azriel that surprises her, even?
The story gets even deeper when you combine Azriel AND Feyre questioning the cauldron. I cannot stress this enough when I say that no other pair of mates has been questioned in this series other than Elain & Lucien. You have MULTIPLE main characters describing their relationship or lack thereof as uncomfortable and questioning their bond.
Now, I'm not going to sit here and say the Elucien bond is fake. I don't think it is, but I genuinely think Elain - as the cauldron's favorite - might have two bonds. One with Lucien - Cauldron Made, likely to provide strong offspring but not necessarily an ideal love match, like Rhys & Tamlin's parents. But then also one bond with Azriel, which is blessed by the Mother, which is more similar to what Feysand and Nessian have.
And I think that entire scene with the potatoes, everything from describing the potato steam like "Azriel's shadows" to Azriel not letting anyone eat before she sits down - I think it's a big hint that Elain & Azriel also share some kind of bond. I think Azriel, at least, is more aware of the traditions and religion so he has an idea of what he's feeling. It's what leads him to ask the question "What if the cauldron was wrong?" (And then later discover it was, in fact, wrong)
I have a theory that Azriel at least suspects there's a bond between them. Maybe that's why he took the potato dish out of her hands, so she couldn't serve him. He didn't want to give her another "You're my mate" PTSD. Or he might not realize WHAT it is yet, be he can feel it. He knows there is something there between them.
It's why he questions the cauldron (nobody is questioning their religion over 'just lust'). It's why Mor sees it too. It's why Azriel can smell the Elucien bond and it makes him sick. It's why he went sicko mode when he realized she had been taken by the Cauldron. It's why Elain knows him so well, even though we only see a handful of their interactions on the page. It's why their BC encounter was so hot and full of UST. Like they are down bad for each other and it is CLEAR.

one of my many favourite feysand and elriel parallels:
rhys’ reaction to feyre being hurt:
He reached for my arm, gently examining the angry welt where my skin had been torn by an arrow. Darkness rumbled in the corner of the room. “Cassian let me into his mind just now—to show me what happened on the ice.” He stroked a thumb over the hurt, the touch featherlight. >wings and ruin, ch. 14
Rhys bared his teeth. My limbs turned light, trembling at the dark power curling in the corners of the room. Not fear—never fear of him. But at the shattered control as Rhys snarled at Lucᴉen, “My mate may one day find it in herself to forgive him. Forgive you. But I will never forget how it felt to sense her terror in those moments.” >wings and ruin, ch. 15
elain being hurt by nesta’s words and azriel is in the room witnessing this:
For a heartbeat, it appeared that Elain might say something to soften the words. But Nesta cut her off, seething at the pity about to be thrown her way. “Look who decided to grow claws after all,” she crooned. “Maybe you’ll become interesting at last, Elain.” Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike. >silver flames, ch. 21
a mini parallel: azriel’s shadows behave the same way when he is threatened:
Azriel said coolly, “I don’t need to resort to threats.” The shadows coiled around him, snakes ready to strike. >silver flames, ch. 8

interesting parallels with Feysand locking Nesta up in her tower and Feyre being like "ok all this comfort tho" when Keir said they wanted free from the Mountain. Interesting Parallels between those all being 👍🏻 but Feyre being locked up for 5 minutes (still v bad) has hell rained down upon the spring court. it's giving do as I say but not as I do

It doesn't bother you that Lucien is friends with the man who joked about his mate getting raped? Interesting take....
I want you to do something for me since you decided to come to my page and ask for MY opinion.
I want you to set aside your own personal agenda and really think about what I'm saying.
I get it, we all have lived different lives and are triggered by different things. In real life, SA is not a joking matter, it's not appropriate, it's not something to giggle about between friends. I never returned to a job the day after a boss corned me and inappropriately touched me and I felt too uncomfortable to speak up since he owned the company. I was inappropriately touched by a neighbor when I was around 9 years old, someone who allowed me to stop by and play with his two dogs since I loved pets so much. I consider myself lucky because neither scenario escalated to what others have dealt with but those scenarios still give me enough empathy to realize the fear of being put in a position where you feel helpless against someone bigger, stronger and who holds power over you.
But the ACOTAR series is not what happened to me or anyone else no matter how many parallels or connections some find. It's fantasy fiction and in fantasy fiction (whether you agree with it or not), things that are serious in the real world are never given the same weight as in the book. Take murder, torture, and using others as pawns for example. These things are done by the main cast of character and nobody bats an eye. In fact, the fandom applauds them for it, turns them into sex symbols for it. Azriel literally tortures people yet many are more interested in the size of his wingspan than the things he's done to people who are unarmed in his torture room. Since Jurian's comments are so offensive and unforgivable, how are you comfortable thinking torture is something it's ok for the fandom to turn a blind eye to when it's a hotly debated issue in the real world as it relates to torture of POWs? Since you're sending me this anon I have to take a guess and say you're an e/riel and that means you're fine with torture in books but not fine with SA comments in books though both exist in real life.
Onto your specific question though, how am I fine with Lucien being friends with Jurian after he made those comments.
Simply put, because I'm reading the story the author is telling. Your reading experience seems vastly different from mine because I'm choosing to read the story as it's actually being told whereas you seem to be reading the story you wish was being told based on very specific things that are personal to you.
If I was basing my reading experience on real life morals and things that personally effect me then I could have never gotten behind the Feysand relationship because Rhys did some pretty horrible things to Feyre UTM. He forced her to drink wine she didn't ask for, he put her in clothes she was was uncomfortable wearing, he forced her (while she was drunk) to dance in his lap in a way she was embarrassed to hear about and he coerced her into a bargain she clearly didn't want, going so far as to twist the bone in her arm to force her to agree.
But I'm not basing my reading experience on real world morals, I'm allowing myself to let Sarah take the reins. I'm allowing an author to lead me so I understand what they're telling me (so long as I'm losing myself in this fantasy world) , to shape my mind, to rewrite the rules. The second I step away from my book I am once again a law abiding citizen of this world who understands right and wrong but in the ACOTAR world? I'm just a spectator along for the ride. I forgave Rhys because Sarah wanted me to forgive him, because her explanations were to serve the reasons for his actions.
"Just because Sarah forgave Rhys doesn't mean we have to listen!"
If you've already decided that she's wrong, that you don't have to agree, then you're no longer reading the book as it was intended to be read. And that's fine, feel free to hate on it as much as you want, but it doesn't change the story she's telling. Your personal opinion DOES NOT CHANGE WHAT'S HAPPENING.
It's the same with Jurian. He said / did bad things, we thought he was a villain (just as we did Rhys) until Sarah told us he wasn't. Until the author said, "this is my story and this is the reason for his actions and now he's a good guy strongly connected to the plot and the other good guys in the series". You can feel free to remain stuck in the past, unable to move forward with the series but that's not why I'm here. I want to know the story Sarah is telling, not what nameless faceless person decides I should have an issue with because they have an issue with it. If the author moved forward and the characters no longer have a problem with something that happened way back when then what good is it doing me to remain stuck in past plots? The plot moved forward therefore I move forward. It's honestly as simple as that.
I don't use the ACOTAR novel to teach me how to behave in real life. I use the ACOTAR novel to teach me what is happening with these characters. Therefore when said ACOTAR novel says "Jurian good" I'm going to accept that because that's the journey we're going on. I'm not sure why you take such issue with a reader simply following along with the story that's being told, isn't that the entire point of reading fictional books?

Rhys, Cassian and Azriel moving on instinct, we love to see it 💅
Rhysand
“I got there, and I could smell you. So I tracked that scent, and … And there you were. Human—utterly human, and being dragged away by those piece-of-shit picts, who wanted to … ” He shook his head. “I debated slaughtering them then and there, but then they shoved you, and I just … moved. I started speaking without knowing what I was saying, only that you were there, and I was touching you, and … ”
Acomaf - Chapter 54
Cassian
And in those blue- gray eyes, he could see the thoughts swirling in her as if they were smoke under glass. The cunning mind at work behind that face—the one he hadn’t been able to get out of his head these weeks.
So he’d just . . . moved.
Wings and Embers
Azriel
But I strode to my seat—nestled between Amren and Mor—in time to see Elain say to Azriel, “Hello.”
Az said nothing.
No, he just moved toward her.
Mor tensed beside me.

HOFAS BONUS CHAPTER !
Spoilers ahead ⚠️
Some points to be made, first of all, we see in the Bryce, Azriel and Nesta’s bonus chapter, all three characters getting to know each other a little bit better, also Nesta asking Bryce to play a song and Azriel humming and enjoying the music.
Tumblr media
This scene is particularly interesting, because it’s clear that both Nesta and Azriel are protecting the other fae from Velaris, they say that the war that happened during ACOWAR was declared just on her and azriel. Which means they’re protecting the others, not giving up too much information about their personal lives.
Tumblr media
In this scene Bryce asks both Nesta and Azriel about mates and Azriel is less than enthusiastic to answer about it, he’s avoiding the subject and being monosyllabic about it, which makes the “mates” topic very sensitive for him until now, despite the fact that’s been months since the solstice. (I see you elriel angst 😉)
Tumblr media
Azriel also mentions his mother, saying she’s “anything but awful” are we getting Rosehall anytime soon?
Tumblr media
This is definitely my favorite part, where Bryce puts on her favorite song, and describes it, how important the song was to her and how “it carried her from light into darkness and then back into the light” which is really interesting considering Azriel seems to really like the song.
Tumblr media
Which makes a great parallel between the “Light and Dark” elriel scene in ACOWAR.
Later on, after she stopped playing the song, Azriel started humming in it, softly and to himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This brings me back to ACOMAF!
Where the book of breathings mentions “trembling fawn” along with “sing me”, and the order of the phrases really connect with feyre with “lady of the night” and then feysand with “love me”, then nesta with “princess of decay” and then nessian with “touch me” and finally elain with “trembling fawn” and elriel with “sing me” as we know azriel is a shadowsinger!

people playing dumb when talking about the parallels between the tamlin/feyre situation and the feysand/nesta situation is funny because fundamentally the problem is the same: taking away their choices and their autonomy. but only one is considered wrong by the narrative because of fandom/autor favoritism.
not that it matters! of course nesta was healed by getting dick down by cassian and she did save feysand and nyx. so locking her up and bullying her into finding the trove payed off!! because of course in sjm books shitty actions have no consequence unless you are nesta! she is the only held accountable by her words and actions while everyone else’s is just brushed aside!! which is totally fair (irony)
