Fever can either be a disease or a symptom of another disease. As per ayurveda, fever is caused by an imbalance of the pitta (fire), vata (air) and kapha (phlegm) doshas. Stress, lifestyle disorders or unhealthy diet & lifestyle can cause the imbalance, leading to a dysfunctional system of digestion. Fever as a disease is classified into eight categories in Ayurveda called Aghantuja, Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Pitta-Kapha, Vata-Pitta, Vata-Kapha and Vata-Pitta-Kapha
Causes of fever:
There could be various reasons that contribute to causing fever. Generally, Fever is caused as a response to an infection causing the body to raise its temperature. Extreme heat or sun exposure can also lead for us to run a fever. Some medications prescribed for other diseases can also cause fever as a side effect.
As per Ayurveda, Fever is divided into 3 stages :
1. Navajwara- Fever of recent origin – within first week.
2. Madhyama-Jwara- Fever which is less than 1 week.
3. Purana-jwara- Fever older than a week time/ chronic fever.
